00:04:06.17\00:04:09.21 My topic today is a very important one, 00:04:09.24\00:04:11.38 one which is often misunderstood. 00:04:11.41\00:04:14.38 My topic is holiness. 00:04:14.42\00:04:17.92 Holiness, the big let down, and hearts strangely warmed. 00:04:17.95\00:04:24.23 What am I talking about this big let down? 00:04:24.26\00:04:28.13 Well, we're going to talk about that as we move along today, 00:04:28.16\00:04:30.53 so just hold on. 00:04:30.57\00:04:32.97 Holiness is not pious frigidity. 00:04:33.00\00:04:36.37 Have you met some people who go to church 00:04:36.40\00:04:38.47 and they are cold as an iceberg. 00:04:38.51\00:04:42.01 We're not talking about playing church today. 00:04:42.04\00:04:44.18 That's a game that some people play. 00:04:44.21\00:04:46.55 It's called playing church. 00:04:46.58\00:04:49.15 But we're talking today about 00:04:49.18\00:04:50.52 how God quietly melts 00:04:50.55\00:04:54.06 the ice of frigid hearts. 00:04:54.09\00:04:58.89 I'm going to start with a couple of text. 00:04:58.93\00:05:00.66 I'm going to come over here firstly to the Book of Hebrews. 00:05:00.70\00:05:05.97 And if you can, I'd like you to get a Bible. 00:05:06.00\00:05:09.80 And I'd like you to follow these texts, 00:05:09.84\00:05:11.74 because I don't want you to believe it 00:05:11.77\00:05:14.28 because I'm saying it. 00:05:14.31\00:05:15.84 I want you to believe it 00:05:15.88\00:05:17.78 because you're totally convinced. 00:05:17.81\00:05:20.02 I'm going to turn 00:05:20.05\00:05:21.48 to Hebrews 12:13-14. 00:05:21.52\00:05:28.42 Hebrews Chapter 12 and verse... 00:05:28.46\00:05:34.03 Let me see, 13. 00:05:34.06\00:05:36.20 The Bible says, 00:05:36.23\00:05:37.57 "Make straight paths for your feet, 00:05:37.60\00:05:40.54 so that what is lame may not be dislocated, 00:05:40.57\00:05:43.44 but rather be healed." 00:05:43.47\00:05:45.81 If this book is not healing you spiritually, 00:05:45.84\00:05:48.68 it's because you're reading it the wrong way. 00:05:48.71\00:05:51.85 And then verse 14 says, "Pursue peace with all people, 00:05:51.88\00:05:56.55 and holiness 00:05:56.58\00:05:59.09 without which no one will see the Lord." 00:05:59.12\00:06:01.16 The Bible says, 00:06:01.19\00:06:02.52 "If you don't have genuine holiness, 00:06:02.56\00:06:04.93 you're not going to see God." 00:06:04.96\00:06:07.00 This is a pretty strong talk. 00:06:07.03\00:06:08.53 So this means no lying, no cheating, no stealing, 00:06:08.56\00:06:12.83 none of that sort of stuff. 00:06:12.87\00:06:14.50 The Bible says, "Without holiness, 00:06:14.54\00:06:16.67 no person is going to see the Lord." 00:06:16.71\00:06:19.71 And one of the most amazing texts of all 00:06:19.74\00:06:23.24 is Matthew 5:20. 00:06:23.28\00:06:27.55 The words of Christ, the most holy person, 00:06:27.58\00:06:30.92 Matthew 5:20, says, 00:06:30.95\00:06:37.13 "For I say to you, 00:06:37.16\00:06:39.09 that unless your righteousness 00:06:39.13\00:06:41.00 exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, 00:06:41.03\00:06:45.60 you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven." 00:06:45.63\00:06:48.67 Now, this is an extraordinary statement. 00:06:48.70\00:06:52.57 Jesus said, He said this to His disciples, 00:06:52.61\00:06:56.28 "Unless you are more holy 00:06:56.31\00:06:58.25 than the scribes and the Pharisees, 00:06:58.28\00:07:01.38 you are never going to enter the kingdom of God." 00:07:01.42\00:07:05.85 And in the eyes 00:07:05.89\00:07:07.22 of the vast majority of people back there, 00:07:07.26\00:07:09.49 these people were the very essence of holiness 00:07:09.52\00:07:15.13 and righteousness. 00:07:15.16\00:07:17.10 They were the big leaders of the church, 00:07:17.13\00:07:20.64 the remnant church of their day. 00:07:20.67\00:07:23.87 And Jesus said, "Unless your righteousness, 00:07:23.91\00:07:27.84 unless your holiness is greater than the scribes 00:07:27.88\00:07:32.51 and the Pharisees, 00:07:32.55\00:07:33.88 you're not going to be saved." 00:07:33.92\00:07:36.58 So what was Jesus? 00:07:36.62\00:07:38.55 What was He talking about? 00:07:38.59\00:07:42.32 Let's talk a little bit about what God is like? 00:07:42.36\00:07:45.36 What is God like? What is your God like? 00:07:45.39\00:07:50.07 Well, my friend, the Bible teaches 00:07:50.10\00:07:51.73 that God is a holy God. 00:07:51.77\00:07:54.60 I want you to hear this. 00:07:54.64\00:07:56.30 God is a holy God. 00:07:56.34\00:07:59.01 God is not a fraud. 00:07:59.04\00:08:01.48 God is not a sham. 00:08:01.51\00:08:03.91 God is not a fake. 00:08:03.95\00:08:06.38 God is a holy and a righteous God. 00:08:06.41\00:08:11.02 And the Bible says, 00:08:11.05\00:08:12.55 "He is a holy God, who was full of love, 00:08:12.59\00:08:16.76 and warmth, and compassion." 00:08:16.79\00:08:18.76 Are you listening to me? 00:08:18.79\00:08:21.53 I was preaching to another great crowd. 00:08:21.56\00:08:25.07 I think it was. 00:08:25.10\00:08:27.37 I've had this happen only on three or four occasions. 00:08:27.40\00:08:30.77 But I was preaching to a great crowd 00:08:30.81\00:08:33.04 over in Siberia. 00:08:33.07\00:08:34.71 And as I was talking to the people 00:08:34.74\00:08:36.41 and pouring out my soul 00:08:36.44\00:08:38.51 and trying to preach the Gospel of Christ, 00:08:38.55\00:08:41.12 once again, 00:08:41.15\00:08:42.48 it seemed as though I was immersed 00:08:42.52\00:08:45.62 in a sea of tranquility and a sea of love. 00:08:45.65\00:08:51.89 When I went to Ukraine 00:08:51.93\00:08:54.46 and spoke to tremendous crowd there 00:08:54.50\00:08:56.63 in the great city of Kiev. 00:08:56.67\00:08:59.37 One night, as I was appealing to that vast audience, 00:08:59.40\00:09:03.41 people who had been atheists and communists, once again, 00:09:03.44\00:09:06.51 it came upon me, 00:09:06.54\00:09:07.88 it was as though a mantle of warmth 00:09:07.91\00:09:10.58 had been dropped upon me. 00:09:10.61\00:09:12.38 I think it was God. 00:09:12.41\00:09:14.75 On one occasion, I was up in Papua New Guinea, 00:09:14.78\00:09:18.12 in the great city of Port Moresby 00:09:18.15\00:09:20.52 with my magnificent team. 00:09:20.56\00:09:22.96 I've got just the greatest team 00:09:22.99\00:09:24.83 that you'd find anywhere in the world, 00:09:24.86\00:09:26.70 so dedicated and so full of love. 00:09:26.73\00:09:29.26 And one night there 00:09:29.30\00:09:30.63 we had a supernatural experience, 00:09:30.67\00:09:33.07 because a great white dove 00:09:33.10\00:09:34.70 not found in that part of the world. 00:09:34.74\00:09:37.87 When I was preaching on the Holy Spirit, 00:09:37.91\00:09:39.71 he came in across the audience, 00:09:39.74\00:09:41.98 the people were, 00:09:42.01\00:09:43.45 were amazed and dazed at the power of God. 00:09:43.48\00:09:46.31 And as I was preaching to those people, 00:09:46.35\00:09:48.75 once again, the mantle came upon me. 00:09:48.78\00:09:51.75 How can you describe this? 00:09:51.79\00:09:53.46 This has never happened to me in Australia. 00:09:53.49\00:09:55.39 It has never happened to me anywhere in America. 00:09:55.42\00:09:58.09 It happened there in Papua New Guinea, 00:09:58.13\00:10:01.23 and I felt relaxed. 00:10:01.26\00:10:05.07 All the tension was gone. 00:10:05.10\00:10:08.50 No worry, no worry, 00:10:08.54\00:10:11.01 just immersed 00:10:11.04\00:10:13.74 in warmth and love 00:10:13.78\00:10:19.68 because God was there. 00:10:19.71\00:10:23.39 Now let me give you something which is pretty important. 00:10:23.42\00:10:27.76 Have people had understood these texts 00:10:27.79\00:10:29.82 that talk about the call to holiness, 00:10:29.86\00:10:32.26 without holiness no one shall see the Lord. 00:10:32.29\00:10:34.56 Unless your righteousness 00:10:34.60\00:10:36.03 is better than the righteousness 00:10:36.06\00:10:37.50 of the scribes and the Pharisees, 00:10:37.53\00:10:39.23 you're not going to make it. 00:10:39.27\00:10:41.64 So have had people understood these passages, 00:10:41.67\00:10:45.94 the call to holiness. 00:10:45.97\00:10:47.34 Let's talk a little bit today about the theology 00:10:47.38\00:10:50.71 of our beloved Roman Catholic friends. 00:10:50.75\00:10:55.38 I was brought up with a Roman Catholic father, 00:10:55.42\00:10:57.79 so I love Roman Catholics. 00:10:57.82\00:11:01.42 The Roman Catholic Church, now, I don't want to lose you. 00:11:01.46\00:11:04.26 But the Roman Catholic Church talks about 00:11:04.29\00:11:06.76 infused righteousness. 00:11:06.80\00:11:10.03 And they say that when God justifies a person, 00:11:10.07\00:11:13.23 He infuses the soul with His righteousness. 00:11:13.27\00:11:18.11 And God gives it to us a little bit by a little bit. 00:11:18.14\00:11:22.78 We get a little bit more every day, 00:11:22.81\00:11:25.28 and each day we are getting better and better. 00:11:25.31\00:11:30.19 And each day we are getting closer to God. 00:11:30.22\00:11:33.92 And finally, after a lifetime, 00:11:33.96\00:11:36.49 and maybe after we've gone through purgatory also, 00:11:36.52\00:11:40.63 I have got enough of God's perfection 00:11:40.66\00:11:43.60 and I can see the face of God. 00:11:43.63\00:11:47.14 You say, "No, no, no, no, nobody." 00:11:47.17\00:11:48.80 Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. 00:11:48.84\00:11:51.01 This was believed by that wonderful person, 00:11:51.04\00:11:53.71 that tremendous missionary, 00:11:53.74\00:11:57.21 whom we appreciate and respect 00:11:57.25\00:11:59.45 and admire Mother Teresa. 00:11:59.48\00:12:03.69 Mother Teresa went through her life 00:12:03.72\00:12:05.92 with this concept of infused righteousness, 00:12:05.95\00:12:10.23 where God makes us every day a little bit better and better. 00:12:10.26\00:12:15.30 And so, I'm getting better and better. 00:12:15.33\00:12:17.97 And finally, I am sinless. 00:12:18.00\00:12:21.44 And Jesus takes me home to the Father's house. 00:12:21.47\00:12:26.47 That's called infused righteousness. 00:12:26.51\00:12:31.15 Now, I've known lots of folks who believe this. 00:12:31.18\00:12:35.18 You go back to the days of Martin Luther, 00:12:35.22\00:12:36.85 when he started out 00:12:36.89\00:12:38.22 because he was a Catholic priest. 00:12:38.25\00:12:39.59 He believed this. 00:12:39.62\00:12:40.96 I've even known lots of folks in my own church 00:12:40.99\00:12:43.79 who have believed this. 00:12:43.83\00:12:45.73 I was brought up with a theology, 00:12:45.76\00:12:47.96 I was brought up in Australia, 00:12:48.00\00:12:49.50 and I was brought up in the church, 00:12:49.53\00:12:51.57 and I was brought up to believe this. 00:12:51.60\00:12:55.10 I just didn't want to die anyway along the road 00:12:55.14\00:12:57.54 because I wasn't good enough. 00:12:57.57\00:13:00.61 And so my theology 00:13:00.64\00:13:02.04 was one of getting more like God 00:13:02.08\00:13:04.91 and getting better and better every day. 00:13:04.95\00:13:08.35 And at last, I would be sinless, 00:13:08.38\00:13:11.32 and I would get through the judgment, 00:13:11.35\00:13:14.09 and I would be saved. 00:13:14.12\00:13:17.76 Lots of people, 00:13:17.79\00:13:19.13 millions of people believe this. 00:13:19.16\00:13:22.73 I was the pastor of a great church in Sydney, 00:13:22.76\00:13:24.97 the Wahroonga Church many years ago. 00:13:25.00\00:13:27.40 Now, 00:13:27.44\00:13:28.77 I was preaching on this topic one day 00:13:28.80\00:13:30.31 before this wonderful congregation, 00:13:30.34\00:13:32.51 this marvelous church, 00:13:32.54\00:13:34.51 this powerhouse of apostolic Christianity. 00:13:34.54\00:13:40.42 One morning at 3 o'clock in the morning, 00:13:40.45\00:13:42.15 there was a knocking on my door, 00:13:42.18\00:13:44.12 an anxious knocking. 00:13:44.15\00:13:47.72 I brought the young man in, 00:13:47.76\00:13:49.09 I said, "What?" He said, "I can't sleep." 00:13:49.12\00:13:52.13 I said, "Well, 00:13:52.16\00:13:53.50 you knocking on my door, 00:13:53.53\00:13:54.86 of course, you want better sleep, 00:13:54.90\00:13:56.23 you're not gonna on my door three in the morning. 00:13:56.26\00:13:57.83 He said, "You don't understand." 00:13:57.87\00:13:59.93 He said, "I'm not good enough to be saved." 00:13:59.97\00:14:03.20 And he said, "I'm praying, I'm praying, 00:14:03.24\00:14:05.44 I'm up all hours of the day and the night 00:14:05.47\00:14:08.58 and I'm praying that I will become holy, 00:14:08.61\00:14:12.78 and I will become righteous and I will become sinless." 00:14:12.81\00:14:17.75 And he said, 00:14:17.79\00:14:19.12 "I haven't attained to this yet. 00:14:19.15\00:14:21.52 And unless I do, 00:14:21.56\00:14:23.86 I am going to be lost." 00:14:23.89\00:14:28.13 I have met many people like that young man, 00:14:28.16\00:14:31.00 that young man became so discouraged 00:14:31.03\00:14:34.87 by the doctrine of infused righteousness. 00:14:34.90\00:14:38.27 I talked to him, I poured out my soul, 00:14:38.31\00:14:42.21 but apparently to no avail. 00:14:42.24\00:14:45.85 Because sometime later, 00:14:45.88\00:14:47.35 he went out and took his own life, 00:14:47.38\00:14:50.99 because he could not live 00:14:51.02\00:14:52.35 with the concept of an angry God 00:14:52.39\00:14:54.92 who demands of us sinners 00:14:54.96\00:14:57.23 a state of sinlessness before we can be saved. 00:14:57.26\00:15:03.57 That, of course, 00:15:03.60\00:15:05.00 is the theology of our friends in the Roman Catholic Church, 00:15:05.03\00:15:09.64 not all by any means. 00:15:09.67\00:15:13.31 You see, they teach that justification. 00:15:13.34\00:15:17.61 Now, listen to this. 00:15:17.65\00:15:19.88 They teach that justification makes me righteous. 00:15:19.91\00:15:24.32 You say that sounds pretty good. 00:15:24.35\00:15:26.35 No, my friend, it's the devil's lie. 00:15:26.39\00:15:30.59 Did you hear what I'm saying, my friend? 00:15:30.63\00:15:32.59 I'm talking today from the Bible. 00:15:32.63\00:15:34.66 They believe that 00:15:34.70\00:15:36.03 justification is the work of God 00:15:36.06\00:15:38.00 that makes me righteous. 00:15:38.03\00:15:43.00 But I'm here today to tell you that 00:15:43.04\00:15:44.74 when God justifies the sinner, 00:15:44.77\00:15:47.34 the word does not mean to make righteous, 00:15:47.38\00:15:51.85 it means to declare righteous, 00:15:51.88\00:15:55.25 because of the merits of Christ 00:15:55.28\00:15:57.75 who died for us on the cross. 00:15:57.79\00:16:01.49 Let this sink down 00:16:01.52\00:16:02.99 into the molecules of your mind, my friend. 00:16:03.02\00:16:08.00 And so, 00:16:08.03\00:16:09.40 it has been taught, 00:16:09.43\00:16:11.43 it has been taught 00:16:11.47\00:16:12.80 that God is going to have a final generation. 00:16:12.83\00:16:17.31 And that final generation is going to become 00:16:17.34\00:16:19.91 exactly the same as Jesus in sinlessness. 00:16:19.94\00:16:25.81 And then Jesus is going to come back 00:16:25.85\00:16:28.85 because at last, we're good enough. 00:16:28.88\00:16:31.65 Now I'm going to quote from a great church leader, 00:16:31.69\00:16:34.59 a great theologian, a great church historian, 00:16:34.62\00:16:37.99 and I'm quoting his book, Prophets in Conflict. 00:16:38.03\00:16:40.86 And I'm quoting the great scholar, 00:16:40.90\00:16:42.80 Dr. George Knight. 00:16:42.83\00:16:45.23 This book is published by Pacific Press. 00:16:45.27\00:16:48.30 Listen to this. 00:16:48.34\00:16:49.90 "Andreason..." 00:16:49.94\00:16:51.27 Now this could be said of many churches. 00:16:51.31\00:16:53.91 "Andreason, 00:16:53.94\00:16:55.84 Adventism's most influential theologian in the 1940s 00:16:55.88\00:17:00.22 and the early 1950s, 00:17:00.25\00:17:03.08 held that the responsibility of the last generation 00:17:03.12\00:17:06.92 of Seventh-day Adventists 00:17:06.96\00:17:09.06 was to vindicate God 00:17:09.09\00:17:10.53 through living a perfect or sinless life. 00:17:10.56\00:17:13.60 They had to become just as sinless as Jesus. 00:17:13.63\00:17:19.10 You say, "Nobody believes it." 00:17:19.13\00:17:20.47 Well, I was brought up on this. 00:17:20.50\00:17:23.34 I've been a pastor for about 58 years, 00:17:23.37\00:17:26.57 so I know a little bit about this. 00:17:26.61\00:17:29.31 I have a practical relationship. 00:17:29.34\00:17:31.31 I've met so many, many people 00:17:31.35\00:17:33.31 who were brought up on this theology. 00:17:33.35\00:17:37.39 And then Dr. Knight quotes the theologian, Andreason. 00:17:37.42\00:17:42.42 "Men are to follow His example, 00:17:42.46\00:17:46.16 and prove that what God did in Christ, 00:17:46.19\00:17:49.66 He can do in every human who submits to Him. 00:17:49.70\00:17:53.57 The world is awaiting this demonstration. 00:17:53.60\00:17:56.60 When it has been accomplished, the end will come. 00:17:56.64\00:18:00.28 God will have fulfilled his plan." 00:18:00.31\00:18:02.51 So God cannot come and take us home to glory 00:18:02.54\00:18:07.25 until we attained to this sin, this perfectionism. 00:18:07.28\00:18:12.85 What a burden for people to carry 00:18:12.89\00:18:16.32 that Jesus can't come back 00:18:16.36\00:18:18.29 until we are all absolutely as sinless in the flesh, 00:18:18.33\00:18:23.10 as Jesus was. 00:18:23.13\00:18:27.44 I want you to think about it. 00:18:27.47\00:18:29.17 Do you believe it, my friend? 00:18:29.20\00:18:31.74 Because that is not the teaching 00:18:31.77\00:18:33.88 of the Bible. 00:18:33.91\00:18:36.61 Let me talk to you just a little bit 00:18:36.64\00:18:37.98 about the Pharisees. 00:18:38.01\00:18:40.72 The Pharisees, 00:18:40.75\00:18:42.12 some of you have been listening to me for a long time. 00:18:42.15\00:18:44.35 You know, I've talked about the Pharisees 00:18:44.39\00:18:47.09 that originated in the days of Antiochus Epiphanes, 00:18:47.12\00:18:50.19 he was a pagan king, 00:18:50.23\00:18:51.56 who came into the Jewish temple 00:18:51.59\00:18:53.36 and offered up a sacrifice 00:18:53.40\00:18:55.86 actually a pig, he desecrated the temple. 00:18:55.90\00:19:01.27 The Maccabees fought him, a group of Jews, 00:19:01.30\00:19:03.17 they fought him 00:19:03.20\00:19:04.54 and they actually beat this pagan king 00:19:04.57\00:19:06.98 who came down like a wolf on the fold of Syria. 00:19:07.01\00:19:11.31 But there came a group of people 00:19:11.35\00:19:12.91 who got around the Maccabees and they said, 00:19:12.95\00:19:15.22 "We're not gonna let this ever happen again." 00:19:15.25\00:19:18.52 And they were people 00:19:18.55\00:19:19.89 who separated themselves from the world. 00:19:19.92\00:19:22.29 They said, "We're not going to be a part of this apostasy, " 00:19:22.32\00:19:26.23 that happened in the days of Antiochus Epiphanes 00:19:26.26\00:19:29.10 and they became known as the Pharisees. 00:19:29.13\00:19:34.34 The people who wanted to be separate from the world. 00:19:34.37\00:19:37.57 They had this theology, 00:19:37.61\00:19:39.07 bad things happen when we broke the law, 00:19:39.11\00:19:42.48 therefore good things will happen 00:19:42.51\00:19:44.71 when we keep the law. 00:19:44.75\00:19:47.22 And they believed this. 00:19:47.25\00:19:48.62 I want you to listen to me, 00:19:48.65\00:19:49.98 they actually believed that 00:19:50.02\00:19:51.35 when Israel became sinless, 00:19:51.39\00:19:53.49 and they kept the law of God perfectly, 00:19:53.52\00:19:56.36 then the Messiah would come 00:19:56.39\00:19:58.53 and the kingdom of God would come upon the world. 00:19:58.56\00:20:02.26 And so the Pharisees believed in righteousness 00:20:02.30\00:20:06.20 through keeping the law, 00:20:06.23\00:20:09.57 of course, with God's help. 00:20:09.60\00:20:12.51 So who were they? 00:20:12.54\00:20:14.18 Well, they were the defenders of the faith. 00:20:14.21\00:20:16.01 It's good to defend the faith. 00:20:16.04\00:20:18.95 They were zealous for truth. They were outwardly pious. 00:20:18.98\00:20:23.05 They were like two men in Brisbane 00:20:23.08\00:20:24.69 that I saw falling on their knees 00:20:24.72\00:20:27.09 to make a public display. 00:20:27.12\00:20:30.03 Later I discovered 00:20:30.06\00:20:31.39 they were defrauding innocent people. 00:20:31.43\00:20:34.76 So signs of outward piety are sometimes just that, 00:20:34.80\00:20:39.03 but God demands holiness inside. 00:20:39.07\00:20:43.04 Are you listening to me? 00:20:43.07\00:20:45.07 Almighty God requires holiness inside. 00:20:45.11\00:20:50.41 There's a story, Moody, 00:20:50.45\00:20:52.08 the great evangelist told the story of a farmer 00:20:52.11\00:20:56.79 who had a well 00:20:56.82\00:20:58.15 and the well was full of poison. 00:20:58.19\00:21:00.49 And they told the farmer, 00:21:00.52\00:21:01.96 "Your well has got poison inside." 00:21:01.99\00:21:04.79 Moody tells the story how the farmer... 00:21:04.83\00:21:07.46 It's true. 00:21:07.50\00:21:08.83 Moody said it, he said, 00:21:08.86\00:21:10.27 "He got some whitewash and he whitewashed the pump." 00:21:10.30\00:21:15.74 Pumping up the poison. 00:21:15.77\00:21:18.81 If you got a well with poison, my friend, 00:21:18.84\00:21:21.64 it's no good whitewashing the pump. 00:21:21.68\00:21:23.75 You got to get inside and you got to clean it out. 00:21:23.78\00:21:27.45 You listening to me? 00:21:27.48\00:21:30.45 A lot of people today, a lot of politicians, 00:21:30.49\00:21:32.62 they're whitewashing the pump. 00:21:32.65\00:21:34.72 A lot of preachers are whitewashing the pump. 00:21:34.76\00:21:37.69 But we need more than this. 00:21:37.73\00:21:39.96 We need holiness inside, 00:21:40.00\00:21:42.06 we need the warmth 00:21:42.10\00:21:43.43 and the love of God inside, you see. 00:21:43.47\00:21:46.57 Now I want you to notice a text. 00:21:46.60\00:21:48.24 I want you to come over here with me 00:21:48.27\00:21:49.64 to the Book of Philippians, dear hearts and gentle people. 00:21:49.67\00:21:53.17 Come over here to Philippians Chapter 3. 00:21:53.21\00:21:55.74 And I'm going to read you this text 00:21:55.78\00:21:57.31 that was written by one of the greatest 00:21:57.35\00:21:58.91 of all the Pharisees who found Christ. 00:21:58.95\00:22:02.72 He said, "Though I also might have confidence in the flesh." 00:22:02.75\00:22:05.85 Hey, I'm a big guy in the church. 00:22:05.89\00:22:08.36 "If anyone else thinks 00:22:08.39\00:22:09.72 he may have confidence in the flesh, 00:22:09.76\00:22:11.49 I more so, circumcised the eighth day, 00:22:11.53\00:22:15.93 of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, 00:22:15.96\00:22:20.07 a Hebrew of the Hebrews." Well now, what a pedigree? 00:22:20.10\00:22:24.57 "Concerning the law, a Pharisee, concerning zeal, 00:22:24.61\00:22:29.64 persecuting the church, 00:22:29.68\00:22:31.88 concerning the righteousness 00:22:31.91\00:22:33.68 which is in the law, blameless." 00:22:33.72\00:22:35.65 He was a man who kept the law of God 00:22:35.68\00:22:38.15 in His estimation perfectly. 00:22:38.19\00:22:41.69 He was a perfect person 00:22:41.72\00:22:43.32 who believed that you could only be saved 00:22:43.36\00:22:45.56 by attaining unto righteousness through obedience to the law. 00:22:45.59\00:22:50.17 But while he was believing this theological concept, 00:22:50.20\00:22:53.57 he was killing people, 00:22:53.60\00:22:55.14 he was murdering people 00:22:55.17\00:22:56.71 and so many people 00:22:56.74\00:22:58.34 who are super religious are talking religious jargon, 00:22:58.37\00:23:01.74 well, they are guilty of killing people. 00:23:01.78\00:23:06.31 This is the great delusion. 00:23:06.35\00:23:08.98 And later on God gave to the Apostle Paul or to Saul, 00:23:09.02\00:23:12.55 a supernatural revelation of the Gospel of Christ. 00:23:12.59\00:23:17.93 And he discovered, we are not saved by the law, 00:23:17.96\00:23:21.86 we're saved by Christ. 00:23:21.90\00:23:25.67 Righteousness by obedience, 00:23:25.70\00:23:29.10 but whatever happened to love. 00:23:29.14\00:23:33.44 My own upbringing, do this, do that. 00:23:33.48\00:23:37.88 A big emphasis on man-made rules. 00:23:37.91\00:23:40.65 I was brought up on it. 00:23:40.68\00:23:42.88 Big on little things, little on big things, 00:23:42.92\00:23:46.42 and this always leads to a big letdown. 00:23:46.45\00:23:51.79 Why do so many people leave the church, 00:23:51.83\00:23:53.96 especially young people, it's because of lack of gospel. 00:23:54.00\00:23:59.70 Man-made rules. Authoritarianism. 00:23:59.73\00:24:03.57 Do this, do this, do this, do this. 00:24:03.61\00:24:05.67 Do, do, do, cock-a-doodle-doo. 00:24:05.71\00:24:08.78 Little Pope's authoritarian bullies. 00:24:08.81\00:24:15.08 And we see this in parts of the church 00:24:15.12\00:24:16.79 universal around the world. 00:24:16.82\00:24:19.62 Most modern day Pharisees 00:24:19.65\00:24:21.69 who believe in salvation through their obedience 00:24:21.72\00:24:23.89 with the help of God are either very depressed 00:24:23.93\00:24:26.66 or deluded and proud, 00:24:26.70\00:24:28.03 very depressed 00:24:28.06\00:24:29.40 because they know they're not making it. 00:24:29.43\00:24:31.67 They're honest, 00:24:31.70\00:24:33.03 and they know that they're falling short, 00:24:33.07\00:24:35.77 but some people absolutely deluded 00:24:35.80\00:24:39.17 and they think 00:24:39.21\00:24:40.54 they are in themselves righteous and holy. 00:24:40.58\00:24:43.81 Have you met them? 00:24:43.85\00:24:46.31 They're not good to be around. 00:24:46.35\00:24:48.88 They don't attract people. 00:24:48.92\00:24:51.25 I was asked to be the night speaker 00:24:51.29\00:24:52.79 at a great conference in Minneapolis. 00:24:52.82\00:24:55.49 This was 100 years 00:24:55.52\00:24:56.86 after the great famous 1888 Minneapolis Conference. 00:24:56.89\00:25:01.00 So in 1988, 00:25:01.03\00:25:02.36 I was preaching there in Minneapolis. 00:25:02.40\00:25:05.93 But as I went into the meeting, 00:25:05.97\00:25:08.34 there are some people standing up the door 00:25:08.37\00:25:10.04 out in the snow, it was cold. 00:25:10.07\00:25:13.58 And they cried out to me and they said, 00:25:13.61\00:25:15.08 "Don't you go preaching that heresy 00:25:15.11\00:25:17.25 that people can be saved by grace 00:25:17.28\00:25:19.41 and through the blood of Jesus, 00:25:19.45\00:25:21.15 you've got to become sinless." 00:25:21.18\00:25:24.52 They said, "We don't want any cheap grace. 00:25:24.55\00:25:26.35 You've got to become sinless." 00:25:26.39\00:25:27.72 I said, "Like you." 00:25:27.76\00:25:29.76 They said, "Sure, like us." 00:25:29.79\00:25:32.23 And today, we're talking about 00:25:35.30\00:25:36.90 getting right with God. 00:25:36.93\00:25:39.17 We're talking about holiness. We're talking about wholeness. 00:25:39.20\00:25:43.51 We're talking about the warmth of the love of God 00:25:43.54\00:25:47.54 that gets inside a person's soul 00:25:47.58\00:25:50.58 and that melts the ice. 00:25:50.61\00:25:55.52 This will save your soul. 00:25:55.55\00:25:59.12 Talking great truths. 00:25:59.15\00:26:02.32 Not fake news, we're talking the truth of God. 00:26:02.36\00:26:06.86 And we'll be back in a moment. 00:26:06.90\00:26:09.03 Stay with us, please. 00:26:09.06\00:26:10.47 The Carter Report is now streaming 00:26:23.78\00:26:25.51 on demand for you. 00:26:25.55\00:26:27.78 Now you can have the teachings of John Carter anytime, 00:26:27.82\00:26:31.05 day or night. 00:26:31.09\00:26:32.89 By streaming the Carter Report, 00:26:32.92\00:26:35.32 there is more content for you to choose from, 00:26:35.36\00:26:38.03 and it's easy. 00:26:38.06\00:26:40.50 If you are new to streaming, 00:26:40.53\00:26:42.23 all you need to do is purchase a streaming device. 00:26:42.26\00:26:45.20 It doesn't really matter which one, 00:26:45.23\00:26:47.40 you can buy a Roku, 00:26:47.44\00:26:48.90 Amazon Fire or Apple TV from any major retailer. 00:26:48.94\00:26:53.51 You or a family member 00:26:53.54\00:26:56.11 can plug the device into your TV 00:26:56.14\00:26:58.51 and sign in to your internet connection. 00:26:58.55\00:27:00.92 Do a search for the Carter Report 00:27:00.95\00:27:02.92 and download the app to your device. 00:27:02.95\00:27:05.49 From then on, 00:27:05.52\00:27:06.86 your device and the Carter Report app 00:27:06.89\00:27:09.16 can provide you with hundreds of on demand programs. 00:27:09.19\00:27:13.13 You can also take the Carter Report with you 00:27:13.16\00:27:15.46 wherever you go. 00:27:15.50\00:27:17.07 The official free Carter Report mobile app 00:27:17.10\00:27:19.40 can be downloaded to your phone or tablet. 00:27:19.43\00:27:22.64 Go to the App Store or Google Play Store 00:27:22.67\00:27:25.41 and download the app. 00:27:25.44\00:27:27.68 Additionally, you can find Carter Report programs 00:27:27.71\00:27:30.75 on your favorite podcast. 00:27:30.78\00:27:33.05 You can also watch us on Vimeo or YouTube. 00:27:33.08\00:27:37.12 Type the Carter Report in the search box. 00:27:37.15\00:27:41.32 You can watch 00:27:41.36\00:27:42.69 hundreds of uninterrupted John Carter teachings 00:27:42.72\00:27:45.26 whenever you want, for as many hours as you want. 00:27:45.29\00:27:49.16 Travel with John Carter as he circles the globe 00:27:49.20\00:27:51.63 to bring the gospel to millions of people. 00:27:51.67\00:27:54.44 Watch the Carter Classics from over 50 years of ministry 00:27:54.47\00:27:58.21 and gain knowledge from stimulating interviews 00:27:58.24\00:28:00.58 with Christian leaders. 00:28:00.61\00:28:03.35 You now have multiple ways to watch the Carter Report. 00:28:03.38\00:28:06.65 And once you start streaming, 00:28:06.68\00:28:08.18 you'll find comfort in having these teachings 00:28:08.22\00:28:10.02 readily available to you 00:28:10.05\00:28:11.79 whenever and wherever you want for free. 00:28:11.82\00:28:16.42 Welcome to the inspirational world of John Carter. 00:28:16.46\00:28:20.43 For a copy of today's program, 00:28:25.23\00:28:27.17 please contact us at P.O.
