people who go to church

That's a game
that some people play.

This is a pretty strong talk.

So this means no lying,

The Bible says,

And one of the most
amazing texts of all

is Matthew 5:20.

The words of Christ,
the most holy person,

Matthew 5:20, says,

"For I say to you,

exceeds the righteousness
of the scribes and Pharisees,

Now, this is an
extraordinary statement.

of people back there,

these people were the
very essence of holiness

and righteousness.

They were the big
leaders of the church,

the remnant church of their day.

And Jesus said,
"Unless your righteousness,

and the Pharisees,

you're not going to be saved."

So what was Jesus?

bit about what God is like?

I think it was God.

And one night there

supernatural experience,

How can you describe this?

All the tension was gone.

because God was there.

Now let me give you something
which is pretty important.

and the Pharisees,

you're not going to make it.

So have had people
understood these passages,

Let's talk a little bit
today about the theology

of our beloved
Roman Catholic friends.

I was brought up with
a Roman Catholic father,

so I love Roman Catholics.

The Roman Catholic Church,
now, I don't want to lose you.

But the Roman
Catholic Church talks about
00:11:04.29\00:11:06.76
infused righteousness.
00:11:06.80\00:11:10.03
And they say that when
God justifies a person,
00:11:10.07\00:11:13.23
He infuses the soul
with His righteousness.

And God gives it to us a
little bit by a little bit.

We get a little
bit more every day,
00:11:22.81\00:11:25.28
and each day we are
getting better and better.

And each day we are
getting closer to God.

And finally, after a lifetime,

and maybe after we've
gone through purgatory also,

I have got enough
of God's perfection

and I can see the face of God.

This was believed by
that wonderful person,

Mother Teresa
went through her life

with this concept of
infused righteousness,

where God makes us every day
a little bit better and better.

And so, I'm
getting better and better.

And finally, I am sinless.

And Jesus takes me
home to the Father's house.

That's called
infused righteousness.

of folks who believe this.

You go back to the
days of Martin Luther,

when he started out

because he was
a Catholic priest.

He believed this.

I've even known lots
of folks in my own church

who have believed this.

I was brought
up with a theology,

I was brought up in Australia,

and I was
brought up in the church,

and I was brought
up to believe this.

I just didn't want to
die anyway along the road

because I wasn't good enough.

And so my theology

was one of getting more like God

and getting better
and better every day.

in the Roman Catholic Church,

and offered up a sacrifice

actually a pig, he
desecrated the temple.

The Maccabees fought
him, a group of Jews,

they fought him

and they actually
beat this pagan king

who came down like a
wolf on the fold of Syria.

But there came a group of people

who got around the
Maccabees and they said,

So who were they?

defenders of the faith.
