How are you? 00:01:55.71\00:01:57.11 I'm doing well, Alan. How are you doing? 00:01:57.15\00:01:58.65 I'm doing very well. Thank you. 00:01:58.68\00:02:00.02 I want to go ahead 00:02:00.05\00:02:01.38 and just dive right into this thing. 00:02:01.42\00:02:02.75 And I want to first find out from you 00:02:02.78\00:02:04.92 what has made you or motivated you 00:02:04.95\00:02:07.19 to become a minister? 00:02:07.22\00:02:09.19 Oh, let me think about this one. 00:02:09.22\00:02:12.33 Alan, it's a really good question. 00:02:12.36\00:02:15.66 When I was a young guy of 14, 15 00:02:15.70\00:02:19.63 going through a very trouble stage in my life, 00:02:19.67\00:02:23.20 I felt a great conviction 00:02:23.24\00:02:25.87 that one day I should become a pastor 00:02:25.91\00:02:29.18 and an evangelist and go and preach the gospel. 00:02:29.21\00:02:32.65 It came to me as I was living in a town by the name 00:02:32.68\00:02:36.02 of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia. 00:02:36.05\00:02:38.69 And the sense of that 00:02:38.72\00:02:42.09 I was called to be a preacher of the gospel, 00:02:42.12\00:02:45.56 even though at that time 00:02:45.59\00:02:46.93 I don't think I even understood the gospel, 00:02:46.96\00:02:49.23 but it was almost an overwhelming call. 00:02:49.26\00:02:52.10 And as I went through my life and grew a little bit older, 00:02:52.13\00:02:56.74 the call became clearer and plainer, and louder. 00:02:56.77\00:03:01.04 And how did you distinguish that call? 00:03:01.08\00:03:03.48 Was it something that was very consistent 00:03:03.51\00:03:05.41 or was it something that would come and go? 00:03:05.45\00:03:07.28 What was the difference 00:03:07.32\00:03:08.65 that made you attracted to that? 00:03:08.68\00:03:10.35 Let me tell you a little story 00:03:10.39\00:03:12.05 because these thoughts are coming back 00:03:12.09\00:03:13.52 into my mind now. 00:03:13.56\00:03:15.49 My mother told me after I had become a minister, 00:03:15.52\00:03:19.26 that when I was a little boy, she took me in her arms. 00:03:19.29\00:03:22.46 She was not a person who went to church. 00:03:22.50\00:03:25.40 My mother believed in God, but she was not a churchgoer. 00:03:25.43\00:03:28.90 And she told me the story that when I was a little boy, 00:03:28.94\00:03:31.54 maybe two years of age or less, 00:03:31.57\00:03:36.14 she took me in her arms 00:03:36.18\00:03:37.51 and dedicated me to the work of the ministry. 00:03:37.55\00:03:40.38 This was amazing. 00:03:40.42\00:03:42.42 But she never went to church 00:03:42.45\00:03:43.79 and she never talked about these things. 00:03:43.82\00:03:45.59 And, so it wasn't as though 00:03:45.62\00:03:49.12 she was putting these thoughts into my mind, 00:03:49.16\00:03:51.23 she didn't even told me this 00:03:51.26\00:03:52.59 until after I had become a pastor. 00:03:52.63\00:03:55.33 But as time went by, 00:03:55.36\00:03:56.87 when I was 16 or 17, even younger, 00:03:56.90\00:04:02.80 I felt an irresistible conviction 00:04:02.84\00:04:05.31 in my heart that God wanted me 00:04:05.34\00:04:07.41 to be a preacher of the Gospel of Christ. 00:04:07.44\00:04:10.31 So looking back on that moment 00:04:10.35\00:04:11.81 from the story that your mom told you, 00:04:11.85\00:04:14.15 do you really feel as though that moment 00:04:14.18\00:04:16.58 in particular set you on a course 00:04:16.62\00:04:18.89 to eventually become the evangelist 00:04:18.92\00:04:21.22 that you are today? 00:04:21.26\00:04:23.53 Alan, I believe that God calls people 00:04:23.56\00:04:27.30 for certain tasks 00:04:27.33\00:04:29.60 or responsibilities or callings. 00:04:29.63\00:04:32.77 This is taught very plainly in the Book of Romans, 00:04:32.80\00:04:34.97 where it talks about how God calls certain people. 00:04:35.00\00:04:39.74 I say this humbly, 00:04:39.77\00:04:41.11 but I believe that God called me 00:04:41.14\00:04:43.08 to do a certain work. 00:04:43.11\00:04:45.81 The Bible says one of the prophets said 00:04:45.85\00:04:47.48 before he was even in the womb, 00:04:47.52\00:04:49.48 he felt a sense of God had called him. 00:04:49.52\00:04:53.29 I've had this sense 00:04:53.32\00:04:54.66 for well over 60 years, for 65 years. 00:04:54.69\00:05:01.20 And the passion to do this work has never died out. 00:05:01.23\00:05:05.70 And so drawing in from that passion, 00:05:05.73\00:05:07.67 I know that you must have immeasurable experiences 00:05:07.70\00:05:10.94 in the ministry. 00:05:10.97\00:05:12.57 What stands out to you as the most memorable 00:05:12.61\00:05:15.64 from your time spent as a minister? 00:05:15.68\00:05:19.61 Alan, that's a tough one 00:05:19.65\00:05:20.98 because I've had some amazing experiences. 00:05:21.02\00:05:25.25 For instance, when we were in the Solomon Islands, 00:05:25.29\00:05:27.76 had a vast crowd of people there. 00:05:27.79\00:05:30.33 And the night when I spoke on Spiritism, 00:05:30.36\00:05:33.53 as I walked out on the platform, 00:05:33.56\00:05:37.40 this vast crowd of people, tens of thousands, 00:05:37.43\00:05:40.84 I felt a hand on my shoulder. 00:05:40.87\00:05:43.30 Like the physical hand on your shoulder? 00:05:43.34\00:05:44.77 Yes, yes. Okay. 00:05:44.81\00:05:47.18 What was that experience like, exactly, 00:05:47.21\00:05:48.78 that kind of catch you off guard a little bit? 00:05:48.81\00:05:50.28 Well, I thought it was my old friend, 00:05:50.31\00:05:52.05 Pastor Harrell Hacker. 00:05:52.08\00:05:54.02 And so I turned around to say what's going on Harrell, 00:05:54.05\00:05:58.05 but there was no Harrell there. 00:05:58.09\00:06:00.29 So I felt an extra hand on my shoulder. 00:06:00.32\00:06:05.53 That night was going to be, 00:06:05.56\00:06:06.90 you could almost say a dangerous meeting 00:06:06.93\00:06:09.33 because we were dealing with Spiritism and Satanism, 00:06:09.36\00:06:13.74 I believe it was the hand of an angel. 00:06:13.77\00:06:16.00 Now this may seem farfetched, 00:06:16.04\00:06:18.84 but I'm just telling you my conviction. 00:06:18.87\00:06:21.81 I've had other experiences 00:06:21.84\00:06:23.18 such as when we were in Russia and Ukraine. 00:06:23.21\00:06:26.51 I can remember on occasions 00:06:26.55\00:06:27.88 we would have a vast crowd of people, 00:06:27.92\00:06:30.79 atheists, communists, unbelievers, 00:06:30.82\00:06:33.69 and I would be feeling fatigued 00:06:33.72\00:06:35.12 because I'd been working all day 00:06:35.16\00:06:36.66 and I was tired. 00:06:36.69\00:06:38.53 But as I would walk out on the stage, 00:06:38.56\00:06:40.96 I would actually feel a mantle of powerful upon me, 00:06:41.00\00:06:45.03 and this was not just emotion, 00:06:45.07\00:06:46.74 but I would feel that I was closed with power. 00:06:46.77\00:06:51.04 Now was this something that remains consistent 00:06:51.07\00:06:53.84 throughout all of the evangelistic campaigns 00:06:53.88\00:06:56.08 that you participated? 00:06:56.11\00:06:57.45 No, no, no, no. No, no. 00:06:57.48\00:06:58.81 This happened on only some occasions. 00:06:58.85\00:07:00.28 Okay, what do you...? 00:07:00.32\00:07:01.65 When the meeting was over, I was... 00:07:01.68\00:07:05.85 I was weary, I was... 00:07:05.89\00:07:07.86 I've been perspiring, 00:07:07.89\00:07:09.22 the conditions were hot in big auditoriums 00:07:09.26\00:07:12.73 with no air conditioning. 00:07:12.76\00:07:15.46 But I would be back to normal. 00:07:15.50\00:07:20.04 But during the time of my preaching, 00:07:20.07\00:07:22.64 I felt the power of God rest upon me. 00:07:22.67\00:07:26.54 In places like Russia and Papua New Guinea 00:07:26.57\00:07:30.71 and other places as well, 00:07:30.75\00:07:32.41 I have felt the tremendous power of God come upon me. 00:07:32.45\00:07:36.79 I could preach with power. 00:07:36.82\00:07:38.29 You could see a crowd of 150,000 people or more, 00:07:38.32\00:07:43.09 nobody moving, nobody sneezing. 00:07:43.12\00:07:45.99 Now I know that you've traveled 00:07:46.03\00:07:47.36 to some pretty remote places in the world. 00:07:47.40\00:07:49.96 One thing that's pretty interesting 00:07:50.00\00:07:51.33 that I wanted to ask you about 00:07:51.37\00:07:52.80 was how specifically do you get these great groups of people 00:07:52.83\00:07:56.47 to show up to these meetings? 00:07:56.50\00:07:58.67 We do a lot of advertising. 00:07:58.71\00:08:00.04 Okay. 00:08:00.08\00:08:01.41 We've got to raise the money. 00:08:01.44\00:08:03.41 I'm a pastor, I'm not a... 00:08:03.45\00:08:05.15 I'm not a wealthy person. 00:08:05.18\00:08:06.51 I'm the same as any other pastor. 00:08:06.55\00:08:07.88 But surely you have to have some kind of support 00:08:07.92\00:08:10.09 from some other system. 00:08:10.12\00:08:11.45 So I don't get any support from the church organization. 00:08:11.49\00:08:15.09 So you're telling me that this is 100% 00:08:15.12\00:08:17.33 just funded through you in the ministry? 00:08:17.36\00:08:19.39 No, no, it's funded through God. 00:08:19.43\00:08:22.53 I trust in God. 00:08:22.56\00:08:24.70 Now we have a huge campaign coming on in Manila. 00:08:24.73\00:08:27.90 I've got to find half a million dollars. 00:08:27.94\00:08:30.11 How do you plan to do that? 00:08:30.14\00:08:32.67 I put it in God's hands. 00:08:32.71\00:08:35.91 And people start sending me money. 00:08:35.94\00:08:38.91 We've run campaigns 00:08:38.95\00:08:40.28 such as the huge campaign in India, 00:08:40.32\00:08:43.42 which cost us a million dollars. 00:08:43.45\00:08:45.55 That's a staggering figure. 00:08:45.59\00:08:46.92 Now, if you got to raise a million dollars 00:08:46.96\00:08:48.46 unless you've got to raise it, it doesn't seem a lot of money. 00:08:48.49\00:08:51.89 You can say a million dollars very quickly. 00:08:51.93\00:08:54.76 You probably spend it just as quickly too. 00:08:54.80\00:08:57.57 No, I'm a slow spender but the money comes. 00:08:57.60\00:09:01.37 God moves upon that had some people 00:09:01.40\00:09:05.54 and people will send me money. 00:09:05.57\00:09:07.91 And people that I've never heard of before 00:09:07.94\00:09:10.08 and people I do know, they will send me money. 00:09:10.11\00:09:13.85 And so I believe it is the work of God. 00:09:13.88\00:09:16.69 But I have a conviction, Alan, 00:09:16.72\00:09:18.39 that the most important work in all the world 00:09:18.42\00:09:21.36 is the preaching of Jesus Christ. 00:09:21.39\00:09:24.13 And how do you plan to get that message across 00:09:24.16\00:09:27.00 like say specifically for the people in Manila? 00:09:27.03\00:09:30.27 We will advertise on television, 00:09:30.30\00:09:32.67 we will print hundreds of thousands 00:09:32.70\00:09:35.27 of handbills or color brochures, 00:09:35.30\00:09:37.97 will advertise on radio. 00:09:38.01\00:09:41.74 We will put inserts in the newspapers, 00:09:41.78\00:09:44.58 unless you tell people they're not going to know. 00:09:44.61\00:09:47.55 And how far in advance 00:09:47.58\00:09:48.92 does this process begin to take place? 00:09:48.95\00:09:50.72 Well, I got a little team going up there 00:09:50.75\00:09:52.52 in a few days time. 00:09:52.55\00:09:53.92 My son David who does a terrific job 00:09:53.96\00:09:56.49 going with couple of my friends in Australia, 00:09:56.52\00:09:58.69 Dr. John Hammond, Pastor David Gibbons, 00:09:58.73\00:10:05.30 he's going, and they're going to get little ahead 00:10:05.33\00:10:07.67 to make sure that things are going in Manila 00:10:07.70\00:10:11.04 in the right directions. 00:10:11.07\00:10:13.11 This is a very methodical process. 00:10:13.14\00:10:15.44 Yeah, but it's a massive job. 00:10:15.48\00:10:19.15 When we tell people what's got to be done, 00:10:19.18\00:10:21.18 they find it hard to believe. 00:10:21.22\00:10:22.88 We prepare the television advertising, 00:10:22.92\00:10:25.32 we prepare the radio advertising, 00:10:25.35\00:10:27.72 we prepare the handbills. 00:10:27.76\00:10:30.19 And we've got a little team here 00:10:30.23\00:10:31.56 at the Carter Report. 00:10:31.59\00:10:33.36 And they work on this stuff, 00:10:33.40\00:10:34.80 but we've got lots of other stuff to do too. 00:10:34.83\00:10:36.67 We do television programs, 00:10:36.70\00:10:38.93 but we have a... 00:10:38.97\00:10:41.44 We have a conviction 00:10:41.47\00:10:43.04 that God wants us to do this work. 00:10:43.07\00:10:45.81 We believe that Jesus is coming soon. 00:10:45.84\00:10:48.74 And we believe 00:10:48.78\00:10:50.11 that the most important work in all the world 00:10:50.15\00:10:52.61 is the preaching of Christ and the gospel. 00:10:52.65\00:10:55.45 And what is your understanding of the gospel exactly? 00:10:55.48\00:10:59.25 The gospel is God's good news. 00:10:59.29\00:11:03.86 Word gospel means good news, 00:11:03.89\00:11:07.53 it's not advice. 00:11:07.56\00:11:09.90 The gospel is not primarily about me. 00:11:09.93\00:11:13.23 The gospel is about God. 00:11:13.27\00:11:16.10 It's the good news about God. 00:11:16.14\00:11:18.44 And is this the message that you take, 00:11:18.47\00:11:20.38 and you take out to all of these campaigns? 00:11:20.41\00:11:22.48 And also I put this 00:11:22.51\00:11:23.85 in the context of Bible prophecy, 00:11:23.88\00:11:25.85 but the gospel is that Christ died for the ungodly. 00:11:25.88\00:11:32.15 Before you can understand, Alan, the good news, 00:11:32.19\00:11:35.16 you've got to understand the bad news. 00:11:35.19\00:11:37.26 And what's that exactly? 00:11:37.29\00:11:38.63 And the bad news is that people without Christ are lost. 00:11:38.66\00:11:43.13 Bible says this over and over and over again, 00:11:43.16\00:11:45.73 a lot of people don't like to hear this. 00:11:45.77\00:11:47.50 But the Bible teaches 00:11:47.54\00:11:49.14 that men and women without Christ are lost. 00:11:49.17\00:11:52.71 But how do you see that play? 00:11:52.74\00:11:54.08 The Bible says, 00:11:54.11\00:11:55.44 dead in their trespasses and sins. 00:11:55.48\00:11:56.81 And how do you see that specifically play out 00:11:56.85\00:11:58.51 throughout the course say of human history? 00:11:58.55\00:12:00.48 How is that ring true? 00:12:00.52\00:12:02.78 When Jesus came, 00:12:02.82\00:12:05.19 He found the people of God had wandered away 00:12:05.22\00:12:08.56 from God and from the Bible. 00:12:08.59\00:12:12.09 And largely, they were a lost group of people 00:12:12.13\00:12:15.50 ever lost in their Pharisaism, and their legalism, 00:12:15.53\00:12:19.47 and their rebellion against God. 00:12:19.50\00:12:22.84 And the Bible says 00:12:22.87\00:12:24.21 that Jesus came preaching the Gospel of God. 00:12:24.24\00:12:27.58 So God has always had His preacher. 00:12:27.61\00:12:30.08 God has always had His evangelists. 00:12:30.11\00:12:32.31 Jesus, first and foremost, was a preacher of the gospel. 00:12:32.35\00:12:35.45 He was an evangelist. 00:12:35.48\00:12:38.29 Jesus didn't sit behind the desk. 00:12:38.32\00:12:42.82 I mean, it seems in Congress, 00:12:42.86\00:12:46.09 they think of Jesus sitting behind the desk. 00:12:46.13\00:12:48.76 Jesus was out there on the streets 00:12:48.80\00:12:51.93 and in the fields, 00:12:51.97\00:12:53.44 and he was talking to people one by one 00:12:53.47\00:12:57.21 like the woman at the well, 00:12:57.24\00:12:58.84 and Nicodemus, the spiritual leader of Israel, 00:12:58.87\00:13:01.74 but He also spoke to vast crowds of people. 00:13:01.78\00:13:05.15 And I believe that the ministry of Jesus 00:13:05.18\00:13:07.82 and seeking to save 00:13:07.85\00:13:09.18 that which was lost is a pattern for us today. 00:13:09.22\00:13:12.35 Then came the Apostle Paul. 00:13:12.39\00:13:15.69 Now you've just done a... 00:13:15.72\00:13:17.13 just finishing an MA in theology at Fuller. 00:13:17.16\00:13:19.79 Yes, that's correct. 00:13:19.83\00:13:21.16 And that's tremendously important. 00:13:21.20\00:13:23.13 But you know that Paul was not an armchair theologian. 00:13:23.16\00:13:27.04 Certainly not now. 00:13:27.07\00:13:28.40 And Paul was out there, preaching the gospel. 00:13:28.44\00:13:30.94 He was a great theologian. 00:13:30.97\00:13:33.21 And so I'm assuming 00:13:33.24\00:13:34.58 that you're trying to mimic this example 00:13:34.61\00:13:36.91 with your evangelistic campaigns? 00:13:36.95\00:13:39.28 I would like to think that my example is Jesus. 00:13:39.31\00:13:43.65 Jesus is my Savior, first and foremost. 00:13:43.69\00:13:46.89 I'm not saved because I can perfectly imitate Jesus. 00:13:46.92\00:13:50.86 That would be absurd. 00:13:50.89\00:13:52.96 But yes, Jesus is my example. 00:13:52.99\00:13:55.86 He's my Lord. 00:13:55.90\00:13:57.47 So out of all these... 00:13:57.50\00:13:58.83 And Paul and Paul. 00:13:58.87\00:14:00.20 He's also a good example. 00:14:00.24\00:14:01.74 And Martin Luther and John Wesley. 00:14:01.77\00:14:06.17 So I know that you mentioned both of these people. 00:14:06.21\00:14:08.18 Um, how do you feel like their role in history 00:14:08.21\00:14:11.78 has helped shape the movement of the gospel? 00:14:11.81\00:14:14.28 Oh, goodness, 00:14:14.32\00:14:15.65 if Jesus had not come preaching, 00:14:15.68\00:14:17.75 we'd all be lost, every one of us. 00:14:17.79\00:14:22.29 And then there was the Apostle Paul, 00:14:22.32\00:14:24.56 who changed the world. 00:14:24.59\00:14:26.80 We would not be sitting here today 00:14:26.83\00:14:28.26 where if not for the Apostle Paul. 00:14:28.30\00:14:32.10 He gave us the gospel of righteousness through faith. 00:14:32.13\00:14:35.80 And from these historical figures 00:14:35.84\00:14:37.77 that you're drawing from, 00:14:37.81\00:14:39.14 what would you say in a more modern sense, 00:14:39.17\00:14:41.34 or figures that you can look back on 00:14:41.38\00:14:43.68 that championed the gospels as well? 00:14:43.71\00:14:45.08 Well, certainly John Wesley. 00:14:45.11\00:14:48.12 A Church of England minister, he preached 42,000 sermons, 00:14:48.15\00:14:52.85 traveled 360,000 miles on the back of a horse. 00:14:52.89\00:14:56.79 I think you're getting pretty close. 00:14:56.83\00:15:00.06 Not on the back of a horse. 00:15:00.10\00:15:01.46 I've done a lot more than 360,000 miles 00:15:01.50\00:15:03.60 sitting in a jet plan. 00:15:03.63\00:15:07.74 England was absolutely going into a state 00:15:07.77\00:15:13.04 of total spiritual apostasy, 00:15:13.07\00:15:16.01 drunkenness and every other terrible sin. 00:15:16.04\00:15:19.41 And John Wesley came preaching the Gospel of Christ. 00:15:19.45\00:15:23.89 He won more than half a million souls to Christ. 00:15:23.92\00:15:28.89 Tremendous preacher 00:15:28.92\00:15:30.26 and there have been great evangelists more, 00:15:30.29\00:15:32.39 in more recent times 00:15:32.43\00:15:34.20 that have moved the world for Christ. 00:15:34.23\00:15:38.27 Evangelism will never, never, never die out 00:15:38.30\00:15:42.84 while there are lost men and women 00:15:42.87\00:15:46.17 and people anointed by the Holy Spirit of God. 00:15:46.21\00:15:49.08 So if you say that it's not going to die out, 00:15:49.11\00:15:52.11 what do you believe that the church is doing 00:15:52.15\00:15:55.48 to help promote that work? 00:15:55.52\00:15:57.35 Well, for a start, they're letting me do it. 00:15:57.39\00:16:01.62 So when we go to Manila, the church is going 00:16:01.66\00:16:04.46 to be supporting me and my team, 00:16:04.49\00:16:07.43 but they won't be paying for it. 00:16:07.46\00:16:09.90 And it's very interesting 00:16:09.93\00:16:11.87 that one of the leaders up there said to me, 00:16:11.90\00:16:14.37 "We've got ourselves into all sorts of trouble 00:16:14.40\00:16:17.21 because we stopped doing public evangelism." 00:16:17.24\00:16:19.87 So you believe that there's a correlation 00:16:19.91\00:16:22.14 between evangelism and the success 00:16:22.18\00:16:24.65 of the gospel message? 00:16:24.68\00:16:26.01 Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. 00:16:26.05\00:16:28.25 My methodology and everything I do 00:16:28.28\00:16:31.89 is based on the scriptures. 00:16:31.92\00:16:34.42 Now in 1 Corinthians Chapter 12, Alan, 00:16:34.46\00:16:40.00 Paul gives the gifts in the church. 00:16:40.03\00:16:43.16 Most folks have never read it, 1 Corinthians Chapter 12. 00:16:43.20\00:16:46.13 I think it's verse 28-30. 00:16:46.17\00:16:48.50 He says, first apostles, 00:16:48.54\00:16:51.77 and the word apostle refers to a person 00:16:51.81\00:16:54.24 who is sent forth to preach the Gospel of Christ. 00:16:54.28\00:16:57.11 He said, "First apostles." 00:16:57.15\00:16:59.41 Then he says, "Secondly prophets," 00:16:59.45\00:17:02.82 and a prophet is a person 00:17:02.85\00:17:04.19 who expounds the Gospel of Christ 00:17:04.22\00:17:06.52 and who preaches the great truths of the Bible. 00:17:06.55\00:17:09.79 This is 1 Corinthians Chapter 12. 00:17:09.82\00:17:11.93 Most people, who call themselves Christians, 00:17:11.96\00:17:16.26 don't seem to know anything about these words 00:17:16.30\00:17:18.73 that were taught in the Bible. 00:17:18.77\00:17:20.97 What do you think that is exactly? 00:17:21.00\00:17:22.60 Oh, I think they've got, 00:17:22.64\00:17:24.61 you know, in many, many years ago, 00:17:24.64\00:17:26.94 they used to put blinkers over the eyes of horses. 00:17:26.98\00:17:30.28 Have you heard about this? Yes. 00:17:30.31\00:17:31.65 They put these things here. 00:17:31.68\00:17:33.01 So the horse can't look to the left or to the right. 00:17:33.05\00:17:35.15 So the horse, you know, he's got blinkers. 00:17:35.18\00:17:37.42 So you think Christians are having spiritual blinkers? 00:17:37.45\00:17:39.32 I think a lot of Christians have got blinkers. 00:17:39.35\00:17:41.96 Why is that? 00:17:41.99\00:17:44.09 Oh, Alan, these are very difficult questions. 00:17:44.13\00:17:47.16 I think because of the insanity of the times, 00:17:47.20\00:17:50.57 because of the brainwashing, because of television. 00:17:50.60\00:17:54.34 I think television is destroying the minds of people. 00:17:54.37\00:17:58.04 I think our digital age 00:17:58.07\00:17:59.97 where people spend most of their time 00:18:00.01\00:18:02.61 on their cell phones or their iPads 00:18:02.64\00:18:05.21 and sitting most of the day in front of video screens 00:18:05.25\00:18:10.59 and playing games. 00:18:10.62\00:18:12.35 I think it is destroying the minds of the people. 00:18:12.39\00:18:15.79 I'm not the only person that says this. 00:18:15.82\00:18:17.59 The New York Times, The Liberal, 00:18:17.63\00:18:19.39 New York Times says, 00:18:19.43\00:18:20.76 we need to have a digital Sabbath. 00:18:20.80\00:18:23.43 So I am somebody who is grown up 00:18:23.47\00:18:25.60 with that experience of technology 00:18:25.63\00:18:28.37 of using it to my advantage. 00:18:28.40\00:18:31.04 Do you feel like that is a specifically modern problem? 00:18:31.07\00:18:34.21 Or how does that relate to people like me, 00:18:34.24\00:18:36.24 people my age or under to say? 00:18:36.28\00:18:38.51 I think we are living in the last days. 00:18:38.55\00:18:41.88 And I believe the things the Bible says 00:18:41.92\00:18:45.02 are going to get worse and worse, 00:18:45.05\00:18:47.56 and culminate in the great time of trouble. 00:18:47.59\00:18:50.79 They've always been problems to the preaching 00:18:50.83\00:18:52.83 of the gospel back in the days of John Wesley. 00:18:52.86\00:18:55.66 It was drunkenness. 00:18:55.70\00:19:00.20 Make you drunk. 00:19:00.24\00:19:01.57 They used to say drunk for a penny, 00:19:01.60\00:19:04.57 dead drunk for two pennies. 00:19:04.61\00:19:07.94 And dead drunk and we'll give you a scroll 00:19:07.98\00:19:11.65 for three pennies. 00:19:11.68\00:19:13.35 These were the people in the days of John Wesley. 00:19:13.38\00:19:16.62 So this was like a terrible drug addiction, 00:19:16.65\00:19:19.39 which is like the drug addiction 00:19:19.42\00:19:22.12 that is in America today. 00:19:22.16\00:19:23.96 It destroys the minds of people. 00:19:23.99\00:19:27.26 But I think that your generation 00:19:27.30\00:19:29.63 has got challenges 00:19:29.66\00:19:31.00 that no generation has ever had before. 00:19:31.03\00:19:33.70 What are those challenges exactly? 00:19:33.74\00:19:35.80 What do you believe them to be? 00:19:35.84\00:19:37.64 Can I be honest? Sure. 00:19:37.67\00:19:39.34 I think brainwashing. 00:19:39.37\00:19:40.71 Brainwashing in what regard? 00:19:40.74\00:19:43.95 That people today are being brainwashed 00:19:43.98\00:19:50.05 by the media, by the social media, 00:19:50.09\00:19:54.16 whereby they no longer have time 00:19:54.19\00:19:57.06 to serious study of the scriptures. 00:19:57.09\00:20:02.16 Now, you know, 00:20:02.20\00:20:03.53 I run a program here at The Carter Report, 00:20:03.57\00:20:06.84 we've got more computers than most people have. 00:20:06.87\00:20:10.87 So we do this because we do television. 00:20:10.91\00:20:13.31 But I'm not the only person who thinks this. 00:20:17.11\00:20:19.38 When I refer to The Liberal, New York Times I said, 00:20:19.41\00:20:23.32 people are going crazy. 00:20:23.35\00:20:26.86 They're losing their ability to think, 00:20:26.89\00:20:29.32 therefore, we elect politicians on sound bites 00:20:29.36\00:20:33.70 that can't be more than 30 seconds. 00:20:33.73\00:20:35.93 Why? 00:20:35.96\00:20:37.30 Because lots of folks today 00:20:37.33\00:20:39.27 can't concentrate for more than 30 seconds. 00:20:39.30\00:20:43.00 I had to go to the dentist two days ago. 00:20:43.04\00:20:45.67 How was that? 00:20:45.71\00:20:47.04 You know, I love I love. 00:20:47.08\00:20:49.44 I don't want you to relive the experience, 00:20:49.48\00:20:51.08 it's okay. 00:20:51.11\00:20:52.65 I would say I was having my tooth drilled back here 00:20:52.68\00:20:55.72 because of something that happened to the fillings 00:20:55.75\00:20:58.72 and I'm lying back, you know, and I'm saying, 00:20:58.75\00:21:01.66 "Give me more stuff to put in there 00:21:01.69\00:21:03.22 so I'm not gonna feel anything." 00:21:03.26\00:21:04.59 So I've got the dentist there and the assistant, 00:21:04.63\00:21:07.76 but in front of me up there, 00:21:07.80\00:21:09.80 they've got a television screen. 00:21:09.83\00:21:13.30 That's kind of a distraction for you in essence. 00:21:13.34\00:21:15.24 No, no, no, I don't know what was worse, 00:21:15.27\00:21:18.04 having my tooth drilled 00:21:18.07\00:21:19.41 or being forced to watch this inane, 00:21:19.44\00:21:22.11 ridiculous, stupid television. 00:21:22.14\00:21:25.31 Now, this is here in Los Angeles. 00:21:25.35\00:21:27.82 I think, I thought to myself, 00:21:27.85\00:21:30.35 it was a sitcom some young girls, 00:21:30.39\00:21:33.69 some guys in the hour 00:21:33.72\00:21:37.23 that I was suffering in the dentist's chair. 00:21:37.26\00:21:42.76 It was inane, was stupid, brainless. 00:21:42.80\00:21:49.47 It's very, very hard to preach the truths 00:21:49.50\00:21:51.67 of the Bible to people like this. 00:21:51.71\00:21:54.24 And I believe all of this has been brought about 00:21:54.28\00:21:56.95 by the great adversary, 00:21:56.98\00:21:58.31 the devil himself to brainwash people. 00:21:58.35\00:22:02.92 So I believe that we are living 00:22:02.95\00:22:04.72 in a time in the history of the world 00:22:04.75\00:22:06.72 when people are actually suffering mental deterioration, 00:22:06.76\00:22:12.49 I believe the devil is doing it. 00:22:12.53\00:22:14.20 Let me tell you something. 00:22:14.23\00:22:16.73 This is a terrible thing I'm going to tell you, Alan. 00:22:16.77\00:22:20.00 I hope all my friends are not gonna dislike me 00:22:20.04\00:22:23.51 because of what I'm going to say. 00:22:23.54\00:22:24.91 Let's hear it. 00:22:24.94\00:22:26.68 I preached in Australia. 00:22:26.71\00:22:28.68 I preached in the Sydney Opera House. 00:22:28.71\00:22:30.88 I preached in big places and in little places, 00:22:30.91\00:22:34.75 big audiences and little audiences. 00:22:34.78\00:22:37.19 I preached in America, in the Shrine Auditorium. 00:22:37.22\00:22:40.89 Huge auditorium, downtown Los Angeles. 00:22:40.92\00:22:43.69 And then I was called to go and preach to people 00:22:43.73\00:22:47.70 who were in the Soviet Union 00:22:47.73\00:22:52.00 for crying out loud. 00:22:52.03\00:22:53.97 How's that? How's that experience? 00:22:54.00\00:22:56.77 It was refreshing. 00:22:56.81\00:22:58.54 Refreshing in what way exactly? 00:22:58.57\00:23:00.48 Because they had a greater capacity 00:23:00.51\00:23:02.38 to understand truth, 00:23:02.41\00:23:03.78 their minds had not deteriorated 00:23:03.81\00:23:06.41 as much as people in the western world. 00:23:06.45\00:23:10.05 These people had been under the curse of communism 00:23:10.09\00:23:13.05 and I was always a tremendous enemy of communism. 00:23:13.09\00:23:18.06 But the television they had, 00:23:18.09\00:23:21.03 they played classical music, 00:23:21.06\00:23:23.70 they had orchestras. 00:23:23.73\00:23:25.77 And when I went to Russia and Ukraine in those, 00:23:25.80\00:23:28.50 it's not like it today, 00:23:28.54\00:23:29.87 because now they've got our television. 00:23:29.90\00:23:32.04 And since they've got our television, 00:23:32.07\00:23:35.34 their brains have deteriorated like people here. 00:23:35.38\00:23:39.35 I could preach to a vast crowd of Russians. 00:23:39.38\00:23:43.25 It's not like it now. 00:23:43.28\00:23:45.05 It's like America. 00:23:45.09\00:23:46.99 And they could listen 00:23:47.02\00:23:48.36 for an hour and a half and take notes. 00:23:48.39\00:23:50.96 Nobody coughing, nobody moving. 00:23:50.99\00:23:53.36 When I had an altar call, 00:23:53.40\00:23:54.93 10,000 people stampeding down the front, 00:23:54.96\00:23:58.70 doctors of philosophy, famous scientists, 00:23:58.73\00:24:02.94 leaders of the old Soviet Union coming to my meetings, 00:24:02.97\00:24:07.84 large numbers of the KGB! 00:24:07.88\00:24:11.38 Their brains had been hurt less than our brains 00:24:11.41\00:24:15.08 have been hurt by Hollywood. 00:24:15.12\00:24:18.75 Now, I know that a lot of scholars 00:24:18.79\00:24:21.22 like to promote and push, 00:24:21.26\00:24:22.99 and I know that this is going to connect 00:24:23.02\00:24:24.36 into what you're talking about here. 00:24:24.39\00:24:26.49 But there's the idea 00:24:26.53\00:24:27.86 and the concept of Neo-Darwinism 00:24:27.90\00:24:29.33 and how that is being influenced 00:24:29.36\00:24:31.93 in universities and upper level education. 00:24:31.97\00:24:36.07 Do you think in some small way, 00:24:36.10\00:24:38.21 that this is also how 00:24:38.24\00:24:40.01 or this also has a part to play? 00:24:40.04\00:24:41.51 Not in a small way. 00:24:41.54\00:24:43.65 In a major, major, major way. 00:24:43.68\00:24:45.95 I have studied this for years 00:24:45.98\00:24:49.28 and I think I understand it, 00:24:49.32\00:24:50.65 Darwinism teaches that Neo-Darwinism teaches 00:24:50.69\00:24:54.56 that everything came from nothing. 00:24:54.59\00:24:57.03 That mind came from non mind. 00:24:57.06\00:25:00.50 That fine tuning came from randomness. 00:25:00.53\00:25:05.03 That we all come back to a common ancestor 00:25:05.07\00:25:07.97 in some primordial sea, and there's no purpose. 00:25:08.00\00:25:12.44 Dawkins, the greatest atheist in the world says, 00:25:12.47\00:25:15.68 "No creator, no sense to anything." 00:25:15.71\00:25:20.52 This has permeated society, 00:25:20.55\00:25:23.55 especially the universities. 00:25:23.59\00:25:26.42 Every university, 00:25:26.45\00:25:27.79 particularly the science departments, 00:25:27.82\00:25:29.92 the departments of philosophy, 00:25:29.96\00:25:31.86 every American state university, 00:25:31.89\00:25:34.03 every Australian university, every British university, 00:25:34.06\00:25:38.93 they've all been brainwashed 00:25:38.97\00:25:41.40 by the doctrine of Neo-Darwinism 00:25:41.44\00:25:45.97 and the teachings of Nietzsche. 00:25:46.01\00:25:49.24 So it's made it very difficult 00:25:49.28\00:25:50.98 and because it's become so difficult, 00:25:51.01\00:25:53.98 the church has retreated in many parts of the world, 00:25:54.02\00:25:57.92 like a turtle back into its shell. 00:25:57.95\00:26:00.29 So you're saying the church isn't doing really anything 00:26:00.32\00:26:02.59 to combat this? 00:26:02.62\00:26:04.66 Well, the church is in some places, 00:26:04.69\00:26:06.86 yes, the church is in some places. 00:26:06.90\00:26:10.23 But much of the church today 00:26:10.27\00:26:14.70 has gone to sleep. 00:26:14.74\00:26:16.64 And that is why 00:26:16.67\00:26:18.01 the fastest growing religious movement today 00:26:18.04\00:26:22.18 in this great United States of America 00:26:22.21\00:26:25.91 is atheism, 00:26:25.95\00:26:28.98 especially among young guys like you. 00:26:29.02\00:26:33.05 You're a committed Christian. 00:26:33.09\00:26:35.36 But the fastest movement is atheism. 00:26:35.39\00:26:38.66 Therefore, we must devise intelligent means 00:26:38.69\00:26:43.87 to take the gospel to the world. 00:26:43.90\00:26:46.17 And that's what The Carter Report 00:26:46.20\00:26:47.70 is dedicated to. 00:26:47.74\00:26:49.64 I'll make sure I stop you right there 00:26:49.67\00:26:51.37 because I want you to elaborate that on the next part. 00:26:51.41\00:26:53.91 So we're going to go ahead and take a break. 00:26:53.94\00:26:55.88 But thank you so much 00:26:55.91\00:26:57.51 and you'll join me soon for the next part 00:26:57.55\00:26:59.41 with Pastor John Carter. 00:26:59.45\00:27:00.78 Time, it takes only a minute to have eternal life. 00:27:12.46\00:27:16.33 How can you get saved in a minute? 00:27:16.36\00:27:18.00 It's simple. 00:27:18.03\00:27:19.37 First, believe that Jesus was the Son of God. 00:27:19.40\00:27:22.04 Second, accept His free gift of eternal life. 00:27:22.07\00:27:25.07 And then you're saved. 00:27:25.11\00:27:27.04 It's not hard. It doesn't take any time. 00:27:27.08\00:27:29.84 You can be saved in a minute right now. 00:27:29.88\00:27:32.85 Pray with me, 00:27:32.88\00:27:34.22 "Lord God, I realize that I am a sinner. 00:27:34.25\00:27:37.05 My sin has separated me from You. 00:27:37.09\00:27:39.42 I accept that Your Son Jesus Christ 00:27:39.45\00:27:41.12 died for me. 00:27:41.16\00:27:42.49 I ask Jesus into my heart." 00:27:42.52\00:27:44.49 If you pray this prayer, you're saved. 00:27:44.53\00:27:47.40 The next thing to do is tell someone, 00:27:47.43\00:27:50.03 fellowship with other followers of Jesus, 00:27:50.07\00:27:52.80 get baptized, read your Bible, and pray. 00:27:52.83\00:27:56.47 Choices, 00:27:56.50\00:27:57.84 we make them every day, all day, 00:27:57.87\00:28:00.08 the most important choice you will make in your life 00:28:00.11\00:28:02.91 is whether to choose eternal life 00:28:02.94\00:28:04.91 or let it pass you by. 00:28:04.95\00:28:06.72 If you would like more information 00:28:06.75\00:28:08.08 about your new life, 00:28:08.12\00:28:09.45 call the number and visit our website. 00:28:09.48\00:28:11.25 For a copy of today's program, 00:28:15.39\00:28:17.36 please contact us at P.O.
