I'd be a lot cheaper. 00:02:02.22\00:02:05.42 We're glad to have you with us. 00:02:05.45\00:02:07.59 You've just come back from Havana, in Cuba. 00:02:07.62\00:02:09.42 Yes, indeed. 00:02:09.46\00:02:11.93 Now, while you were Havana, Cuba, 00:02:11.96\00:02:14.33 you're helping to run on behalf of the Carter Report 00:02:14.36\00:02:17.50 an evangelistic campaign... 00:02:17.53\00:02:19.43 Indeed. To preach the Gospel of Christ. 00:02:19.47\00:02:21.87 Yes. Mm-hmm. 00:02:21.90\00:02:23.24 And the roof blew off. 00:02:23.27\00:02:24.87 Yeah, it's a pretty amazing story actually... 00:02:24.91\00:02:26.27 Tell me about the roof that blew off? 00:02:26.31\00:02:28.28 Well, we were meant to run this campaign in a theater. 00:02:28.31\00:02:31.25 It's a public theater that Pedro was able to 00:02:31.28\00:02:34.58 get from the government. 00:02:34.62\00:02:35.95 And who is this Pedro? 00:02:35.98\00:02:37.32 Pedro is a young Cuban, 00:02:37.35\00:02:38.69 who is now presently going to seminary as well. 00:02:38.72\00:02:42.02 And he's working towards his degree in theology. 00:02:42.06\00:02:45.29 He came with us to Russia. 00:02:45.33\00:02:46.66 Yes. 00:02:46.70\00:02:48.03 And he's a bit of a firebrand, isn't he? 00:02:48.06\00:02:49.40 Oh, Pedro is pretty incredible. 00:02:49.43\00:02:51.03 He's bit of a preacher, isn't it? 00:02:51.07\00:02:52.40 Yeah, very much so. He got some dunamis. 00:02:52.43\00:02:54.74 Oh, yeah. Exactly. 00:02:54.77\00:02:56.10 Okay, tell us about the roof that blew off? 00:02:56.14\00:02:59.47 Well, the theater that we were meant 00:02:59.51\00:03:01.18 to run the campaign and beautiful theater. 00:03:01.21\00:03:04.05 And Pedro has worked very hard. 00:03:04.08\00:03:06.11 But I understand in Cuba, 00:03:06.15\00:03:08.62 you can only run campaigns in church building. 00:03:08.65\00:03:11.19 You can. 00:03:11.22\00:03:12.55 Yeah, but because Pedro is recognized as an artist, 00:03:12.59\00:03:15.66 a musical artist in Cuba for his singing, 00:03:15.69\00:03:18.59 he was able to get a contract for a government building, 00:03:18.63\00:03:21.50 which was this hall that we originally 00:03:21.53\00:03:24.27 intended to do the campaign in. 00:03:24.30\00:03:25.67 And it's a nice place. 00:03:25.70\00:03:27.20 Oh, it was beautiful. It's a theater. 00:03:27.24\00:03:28.87 And it's in Havana. 00:03:28.90\00:03:30.24 It's outside of Havana, actually. 00:03:30.27\00:03:32.21 Oh, I never knew this. 00:03:32.24\00:03:33.58 It's in a city called Guines. 00:03:33.61\00:03:35.81 And so, this is where Pedro, it's two hours from his home. 00:03:35.84\00:03:40.12 And so it's a little track for him, 00:03:40.15\00:03:42.58 but he was able to find it. 00:03:42.62\00:03:44.19 How did he get permission 00:03:44.22\00:03:45.62 and from whom did he get the permission? 00:03:45.65\00:03:47.96 Well, because he's recognized as an artist, 00:03:47.99\00:03:50.46 he gets special permission 00:03:50.49\00:03:51.99 to rent out government owned halls to do performances. 00:03:52.03\00:03:56.13 So he was able to get in contact 00:03:56.16\00:03:57.77 with one of the commanding officials of that 00:03:57.80\00:04:00.77 hall in Guines. 00:04:00.80\00:04:02.14 Because that's pretty rare, isn't it? 00:04:02.17\00:04:04.34 Oh, it is extremely. 00:04:04.37\00:04:05.71 To run an evangelistic campaign 00:04:05.74\00:04:07.28 in a public hall in communist Cuba. 00:04:07.31\00:04:09.14 It is. 00:04:09.18\00:04:10.51 And he was able to convince the government 00:04:10.55\00:04:13.31 that it was in fact more of a concert 00:04:13.35\00:04:15.62 than it would be an outreach program. 00:04:15.65\00:04:17.45 See, I can never do that. 00:04:17.49\00:04:18.85 Yeah. No. 00:04:18.89\00:04:20.22 Because of his recognition as a good singer in Cuba. 00:04:20.26\00:04:22.42 Yeah, yeah. 00:04:22.46\00:04:23.79 They were more inclined to let him use the hall. 00:04:23.83\00:04:26.06 And so because of that, he was able to get 00:04:26.09\00:04:27.70 all the paperwork settled to do the campaign. 00:04:27.73\00:04:29.53 And so he's going to run this campaign 00:04:29.56\00:04:31.13 and you're over there with Javier, your husband. 00:04:31.17\00:04:33.94 Javier came with us. Yeah. 00:04:33.97\00:04:35.90 So there's a team of three Americans. 00:04:35.94\00:04:38.94 And then there's Pedro, our young preacher. 00:04:38.97\00:04:42.04 And his wife and his beautiful little Dora. 00:04:42.08\00:04:44.65 Yes. Yes. 00:04:44.68\00:04:46.01 Has a beautiful family. Yeah. 00:04:46.05\00:04:47.38 And so he's got permission from the communist government 00:04:47.42\00:04:49.48 to run this campaign for Christ and truth 00:04:49.52\00:04:52.82 in this auditorium, just outside Havana. 00:04:52.85\00:04:55.02 Yes. 00:04:55.06\00:04:56.39 And so the story begins where we're getting ready to go 00:04:56.42\00:05:00.10 and obviously, 00:05:00.13\00:05:02.70 this hall is already he's advertised, 00:05:02.73\00:05:05.53 he's prepared 10,000 invitations. 00:05:05.57\00:05:07.64 How did he? How can he advertise? 00:05:07.67\00:05:09.87 Well, we sponsored him. 00:05:09.90\00:05:11.24 He said he wanted to do certain number of things. 00:05:11.27\00:05:13.98 And so we said how much 00:05:14.01\00:05:15.64 and we said we could help him do this. 00:05:15.68\00:05:17.25 We said, let's double it. 00:05:17.28\00:05:19.11 Well, thankfully, with the help from the donors, 00:05:19.15\00:05:21.32 specifically donating for evangelism in Cuba. 00:05:21.35\00:05:23.28 Yes. Right. 00:05:23.32\00:05:24.65 You were able to take those funds 00:05:24.69\00:05:26.02 and directly submit them to Pedro. 00:05:26.05\00:05:28.76 So that he could get 00:05:28.79\00:05:30.13 all of these small cost theater. 00:05:30.16\00:05:31.49 What sort of advertising? 00:05:31.53\00:05:32.86 He did print advertising, 00:05:32.89\00:05:34.36 and I believe he also did, 00:05:34.40\00:05:36.26 well, just a large print campaign. 00:05:36.30\00:05:38.47 He was able to send all of those out 00:05:38.50\00:05:40.17 to all over that city of Guines. 00:05:40.20\00:05:42.87 Yeah. 00:05:42.90\00:05:44.24 He also prepared a banner. 00:05:44.27\00:05:45.94 It's about six feet across. Yeah. 00:05:45.97\00:05:48.54 So he had a banner for the church 00:05:48.58\00:05:50.08 and he did posters, 00:05:50.11\00:05:51.65 and he told me he did 5,000 invitations. 00:05:51.68\00:05:54.62 And I just want to say to the audience, 00:05:54.65\00:05:58.09 I've met Pedro. 00:05:58.12\00:06:00.46 He came with us to Russia, and he's a great singer. 00:06:00.49\00:06:03.26 And Pedro has got something 00:06:03.29\00:06:04.79 that a lot of preachers don't have. 00:06:04.83\00:06:06.33 You know what he's got? He got fire in his belly. 00:06:06.36\00:06:08.20 Yeah, he does. And his singing. 00:06:08.23\00:06:09.73 You don't have to wind him up, do you? 00:06:09.76\00:06:11.10 No, no. 00:06:11.13\00:06:12.47 You got to hold him back. 00:06:12.50\00:06:13.84 Yeah, you got to say okay, take it easy. 00:06:13.87\00:06:15.20 Yeah. Take it easy. 00:06:15.24\00:06:16.57 And his wife is a great supporter. 00:06:16.60\00:06:18.11 Oh, she is his... 00:06:18.14\00:06:19.57 She's by his side, and she helps him 00:06:19.61\00:06:22.34 and he can't do it without her. 00:06:22.38\00:06:23.71 So he's got permission from the communist 00:06:23.75\00:06:26.21 authorities in Cuba. 00:06:26.25\00:06:28.12 He's got this big public auditorium. 00:06:28.15\00:06:30.59 And he's given out all of these handbills 00:06:30.62\00:06:32.85 and he's ready to go. 00:06:32.89\00:06:34.22 Right. 00:06:34.26\00:06:35.59 And this theater seats 800 people. 00:06:35.62\00:06:36.96 Well, that's not bad for Cuba. 00:06:36.99\00:06:38.33 So that's not a little theater. 00:06:38.36\00:06:39.69 It's not bad inside. It's pretty big. 00:06:39.73\00:06:41.06 So he's excited because 800 people 00:06:41.10\00:06:43.20 we're for sure gonna fill it up. 00:06:43.23\00:06:44.73 It's a great theater, too bad it had a weak roof. 00:06:44.77\00:06:48.14 That's right. Okay. 00:06:48.17\00:06:49.50 But it wasn't counting on the bad weather. 00:06:49.54\00:06:50.87 Yeah, tell us what happened? 00:06:50.91\00:06:52.24 So tell us, 00:06:52.27\00:06:53.61 he's about ready to start the campaign. 00:06:53.64\00:06:54.98 Right. 00:06:55.01\00:06:56.34 We arrived on the Tuesday and we were getting ready, 00:06:56.38\00:06:58.58 helping him with all the preps. 00:06:58.61\00:06:59.95 And it was to start on Saturday. 00:06:59.98\00:07:02.08 And so we didn't know that 00:07:02.12\00:07:04.59 there was going to be a change in the weather. 00:07:04.62\00:07:06.65 And so it took place. 00:07:06.69\00:07:08.92 And because we didn't have any communication, 00:07:08.96\00:07:10.53 there's no TV, no internet, nothing, 00:07:10.56\00:07:13.86 we were clueless other than looking up 00:07:13.90\00:07:15.36 at the sky and saying it's cloudy. 00:07:15.40\00:07:16.87 You were in splendid isolation. 00:07:16.90\00:07:18.57 Yeah, a little bit different, wasn't it? 00:07:18.60\00:07:20.24 It definitely was. 00:07:20.27\00:07:21.60 And so as soon as or as a result of the weather, 00:07:21.64\00:07:24.44 it knocked out power completely in the area where we were. 00:07:24.47\00:07:27.11 But what happened to opening in the hall, 00:07:27.14\00:07:30.48 the communist hall? 00:07:30.51\00:07:31.85 Well, we were with him on Thursday 00:07:31.88\00:07:33.58 and word had gotten out from some people 00:07:33.62\00:07:35.72 that we're working closely with him, 00:07:35.75\00:07:37.62 that us as Americans, 00:07:37.65\00:07:38.99 we're going to participate in the campaign. 00:07:39.02\00:07:41.32 So there was a lot of misinformation 00:07:41.36\00:07:42.82 and miscommunication. 00:07:42.86\00:07:44.49 But the person that he originally had spoke to, 00:07:44.53\00:07:47.66 to rent the hall 00:07:47.70\00:07:49.03 found out that Americans were going to be attending 00:07:49.06\00:07:51.40 and possibly speaking. 00:07:51.43\00:07:53.37 So they called him on Thursday 00:07:53.40\00:07:55.20 to ask for our passport information. 00:07:55.24\00:07:58.24 He was a little weary in terms of giving it to them. 00:07:58.27\00:08:01.28 But the person had threatened 00:08:01.31\00:08:02.64 to completely cancel the campaign 00:08:02.68\00:08:04.38 unless we handed over our passport information. 00:08:04.41\00:08:07.48 Once we did, 00:08:07.52\00:08:08.85 he called back within the hour saying 00:08:08.88\00:08:10.65 that the entire campaign was cancelled 00:08:10.69\00:08:12.59 and that Pedro would no longer be able to use the hall. 00:08:12.62\00:08:15.56 That's pretty disappointing, isn't it? 00:08:15.59\00:08:17.43 He was devastated because obviously, 00:08:17.46\00:08:19.39 he'd been preparing for months. 00:08:19.43\00:08:21.10 And it wasn't, 00:08:21.13\00:08:22.46 you couldn't have felt too good 00:08:22.50\00:08:23.83 because now you've gone to help him. 00:08:23.87\00:08:25.33 Yeah. Right. 00:08:25.37\00:08:26.70 And it was potentially our fault 00:08:26.74\00:08:28.07 that we were unable to do anything there. 00:08:28.10\00:08:29.44 You heard the story of Jonah, haven't you? 00:08:29.47\00:08:30.84 Yes. 00:08:30.87\00:08:32.27 That's what we told him, we say, 00:08:32.31\00:08:33.64 well, if need be, we won't attend. 00:08:33.68\00:08:35.61 We won't even go to the hall. 00:08:35.64\00:08:37.81 So they won't see us there if that helps. 00:08:37.85\00:08:40.08 And so I understand that he went then 00:08:40.12\00:08:44.22 and played with the top man there... 00:08:44.25\00:08:48.46 Yes, he was the political leader of the... 00:08:48.49\00:08:50.69 The communist official. Exactly. 00:08:50.73\00:08:52.56 And I was with him all day 00:08:52.59\00:08:53.93 as he was going through this process on Thursday 00:08:53.96\00:08:55.86 and I witnessed it firsthand. 00:08:55.90\00:08:58.03 He was essentially shackled to his phone 00:08:58.07\00:09:00.37 trying to get all of this information 00:09:00.40\00:09:01.90 and communicate the idea across. 00:09:01.94\00:09:04.44 He was even trying to go out there 00:09:04.47\00:09:06.17 and physically speak to them face to face. 00:09:06.21\00:09:09.14 But they kept putting him off 00:09:09.18\00:09:10.51 because all they said was it was cancelled 00:09:10.55\00:09:12.51 and nothing was gonna happen. 00:09:12.55\00:09:13.98 So that's what happens in a communist country. 00:09:14.02\00:09:16.02 Right. 00:09:16.05\00:09:17.39 You've got all of these faithless bureaucrats. 00:09:17.42\00:09:19.02 Right. 00:09:19.05\00:09:20.39 If you think we got a bureaucracy in America, 00:09:20.42\00:09:22.76 try going to a communist country. 00:09:22.79\00:09:24.53 Right. 00:09:24.56\00:09:25.89 And he had been cleared by all the other officials 00:09:25.93\00:09:28.00 of the city, so everybody knew. 00:09:28.03\00:09:30.07 Except one person. 00:09:30.10\00:09:31.43 Except one because he had been sick. 00:09:31.47\00:09:33.80 And so apparently, 00:09:33.84\00:09:35.47 it wasn't shared with him that 00:09:35.50\00:09:37.31 it was gonna be that weekend. 00:09:37.34\00:09:38.67 So he was upset 00:09:38.71\00:09:40.04 because he wasn't in the loop so to speak. 00:09:40.08\00:09:41.81 So, you know, we have a little team come from California, 00:09:41.84\00:09:45.05 little part of the Carter Report, 00:09:45.08\00:09:46.45 three important people 00:09:46.48\00:09:48.48 that go over there to support Pedro. 00:09:48.52\00:09:50.99 And they've got this great auditorium 00:09:51.02\00:09:54.72 and they're ready to go, this is history in the making. 00:09:54.76\00:09:58.43 And a communist official the headman, 00:09:58.46\00:10:01.70 what do you call him in Spanish? 00:10:01.73\00:10:03.06 The Headman? 00:10:03.10\00:10:04.43 Yeah, it says. 00:10:04.47\00:10:05.80 The head honcho but... Oh, the head honcho. 00:10:05.83\00:10:07.34 Yeah. That's pretty much. 00:10:07.37\00:10:09.04 Wants you folks to know that I'm up on my Spanish. 00:10:09.07\00:10:11.54 So the head honcho the communist says? 00:10:11.57\00:10:13.78 No. No. 00:10:13.81\00:10:15.14 In Russia, he would have said what? 00:10:15.18\00:10:17.25 Nyet. That's right. 00:10:17.28\00:10:19.01 We've heard that many times. Yes, we have. 00:10:19.05\00:10:20.98 You know. 00:10:21.02\00:10:22.35 Unfortunately Pedro was very devastated 00:10:22.38\00:10:24.35 and we were too for being responsible. 00:10:24.39\00:10:27.69 And so a credit to his intuition 00:10:27.72\00:10:30.56 and his craftiness to figure out another solution. 00:10:30.59\00:10:33.70 Craftiness? Exactly. 00:10:33.73\00:10:35.33 Wisdom. Exactly. 00:10:35.36\00:10:36.70 Wisdom exactly and he was able to speak 00:10:36.73\00:10:39.13 to a pastor that had a church 00:10:39.17\00:10:40.97 within a mile of the original hall. 00:10:41.00\00:10:43.00 That was a blessing, yeah. 00:10:43.04\00:10:44.77 And so because of that he was slightly disappointed 00:10:44.81\00:10:46.98 that it wasn't able to hold the 1400. 00:10:47.01\00:10:48.81 And this was an Adventist church, was it not? 00:10:48.84\00:10:50.78 Yes, correct. Yeah. 00:10:50.81\00:10:52.15 Exactly. 00:10:52.18\00:10:53.52 And so by the end of Friday morning, 00:10:53.55\00:10:55.78 Pedro had stayed up that entire day Thursday, 00:10:55.82\00:10:58.39 the night prior trying to organize this new campaign 00:10:58.42\00:11:01.26 and so we were essentially able to lock in this church. 00:11:01.29\00:11:04.93 And we had moved the entire campaign 00:11:04.96\00:11:07.96 to this smaller church, 00:11:08.00\00:11:09.33 which was a mile from the original location. 00:11:09.36\00:11:11.60 But the church was packed, wasn't it? 00:11:11.63\00:11:13.40 Oh, it was. 00:11:13.44\00:11:14.77 There wasn't enough room for the people. 00:11:14.80\00:11:16.14 I mean, I went upstairs to the balcony, 00:11:16.17\00:11:18.74 and they had to bring in more benches. 00:11:18.77\00:11:21.58 And they kept bringing out more benches 00:11:21.61\00:11:23.11 and it was just jam packed. 00:11:23.14\00:11:24.65 Pedro's preaching away. Yes. 00:11:24.68\00:11:26.35 Pedro's going full steam. 00:11:26.38\00:11:27.88 Did he sing too? Yes. 00:11:27.92\00:11:29.28 And, you know, Pedro, his campaign he had a choir, 00:11:29.32\00:11:32.59 he had a violinist. 00:11:32.62\00:11:34.02 Oh, he did. 00:11:34.06\00:11:35.39 And he gave his opening, he shared about Russia. 00:11:35.42\00:11:38.13 He had video of himself singing in Russia. 00:11:38.16\00:11:41.40 And so he had quite an elaborate program. 00:11:41.43\00:11:43.37 Yeah, he's a doer. 00:11:43.40\00:11:44.87 We were pretty amazed. Yes. 00:11:44.90\00:11:46.47 We were impressed 00:11:46.50\00:11:47.84 and he had so many different aspects to his program. 00:11:47.87\00:11:51.51 And all of them were organized through him and by him. 00:11:51.54\00:11:55.01 So he singlehandedly put all of this together. 00:11:55.04\00:11:56.91 So he's preaching, and he's teaching, 00:11:56.95\00:11:59.38 and he's singing in, 00:11:59.41\00:12:01.25 in this auditorium and he's got how many people? 00:12:01.28\00:12:04.09 He's got... In the church you mean? 00:12:04.12\00:12:06.19 In the church, yeah. 00:12:06.22\00:12:07.56 Yeah, there were over 450 more, no more could fit. 00:12:07.59\00:12:10.99 In Cuba, that's a big crowd... Right. 00:12:11.03\00:12:12.79 Going to a religious meeting. 00:12:12.83\00:12:14.16 And he had an audio team. 00:12:14.20\00:12:16.30 He brought in lighting, 00:12:16.33\00:12:17.93 see how all of this prepared for the theater. 00:12:17.97\00:12:20.34 So they had to move all of that equipment. 00:12:20.37\00:12:22.47 I'd like to give him a job. 00:12:22.50\00:12:23.94 Oh, I know. Yeah. 00:12:23.97\00:12:25.34 He's deserving. Quite a doer. 00:12:25.37\00:12:26.71 I'm telling you, he's pretty impressive. 00:12:26.74\00:12:28.81 And so the logistics of just having 00:12:28.84\00:12:31.31 to move everything in itself was a huge undertaking. 00:12:31.35\00:12:34.48 So I'm told that he went 00:12:34.52\00:12:35.92 and spoke to this communist official, 00:12:35.95\00:12:38.89 but maybe there was more to it than meets the eye. 00:12:38.92\00:12:42.12 But somebody or some people were out to, 00:12:42.16\00:12:44.93 to do this young man in. 00:12:44.96\00:12:46.29 Yes. 00:12:46.33\00:12:47.66 And to stop him preaching the gospel. 00:12:47.70\00:12:49.16 Goodness me. 00:12:49.20\00:12:50.53 Who is Pedro? Yeah. 00:12:50.57\00:12:51.90 He's got a bit of a nerve, hasn't he? 00:12:51.93\00:12:53.34 Right. 00:12:53.37\00:12:54.70 He's hired this big auditorium, 00:12:54.74\00:12:56.54 and he's got the backing of the government. 00:12:56.57\00:12:58.47 I think he was too successful. Yeah. 00:12:58.51\00:13:00.71 It doesn't pay my friend to get too successful. 00:13:00.74\00:13:05.31 I'm just being facetious. 00:13:05.35\00:13:06.68 Yeah, no. It's true. 00:13:06.72\00:13:08.05 I mean, he had a lot of attention. 00:13:08.08\00:13:09.42 Yes. 00:13:09.45\00:13:10.79 And so especially the fact that three foreigners had come. 00:13:10.82\00:13:13.76 I mean, that was sort of unheard of, 00:13:13.79\00:13:15.76 for this little local pastor. 00:13:15.79\00:13:17.13 So he's given the big heave-ho. Yes. 00:13:17.16\00:13:20.93 You say, no, you're not gonna do it. 00:13:20.96\00:13:22.56 So we said, "Okay, let's make the best of this. 00:13:22.60\00:13:25.40 Let's just move to the church." 00:13:25.43\00:13:26.77 And he even got a couple of our deacons from the church, 00:13:26.80\00:13:32.07 and they printed up flyers on the last minute. 00:13:32.11\00:13:34.44 So he had those deacons go to the theater. 00:13:34.48\00:13:36.58 In night of, 00:13:36.61\00:13:37.95 he had those deacons night of the campaign 00:13:37.98\00:13:40.88 standing at the original venue directing people 00:13:40.92\00:13:43.85 to the new venue of the church. 00:13:43.89\00:13:45.32 So he had organized all of this on the fly. 00:13:45.35\00:13:47.72 And so you told me this when you came back, 00:13:47.76\00:13:51.03 the communist official 00:13:51.06\00:13:52.39 put on a special opposition program. 00:13:52.43\00:13:55.66 Program, a program. 00:13:55.70\00:13:57.03 Yeah, they got on a national singer. 00:13:57.07\00:13:58.47 That's right. 00:13:58.50\00:13:59.83 Because they saw that there was a lot of people 00:13:59.87\00:14:01.67 coming in and wanting to see something happen there. 00:14:01.70\00:14:04.21 We're going to beat these people, 00:14:04.24\00:14:05.84 these Christians who are preaching the gospel. 00:14:05.87\00:14:07.88 That's right. 00:14:07.91\00:14:09.24 We're going to beat him bad. Yeah. 00:14:09.28\00:14:10.85 And we're going to put on a big concert. 00:14:10.88\00:14:12.91 Oh, and it's gonna be popular, 00:14:12.95\00:14:14.28 and we're gonna make a lot of money 00:14:14.32\00:14:15.65 because they were gonna charge for each seat. 00:14:15.68\00:14:17.39 And this little Pedro, he's down the road, 00:14:17.42\00:14:20.79 and nobody's gonna hear about this Pedro. 00:14:20.82\00:14:22.62 That's right, that's what they thought. 00:14:22.66\00:14:24.19 Yes. 00:14:24.23\00:14:25.56 So they actually hired a famous Cuban singer 00:14:25.59\00:14:31.90 that does Cuban music. 00:14:31.93\00:14:34.14 Pretty well-known, Pedro told me. 00:14:34.17\00:14:36.10 And this singer was then to come in on Sunday. 00:14:36.14\00:14:39.97 Because since Saturday, 00:14:40.01\00:14:41.38 there was no one and the people were there. 00:14:41.41\00:14:43.24 So they thought, oh, well, 00:14:43.28\00:14:44.61 we'll give them something on Sunday. 00:14:44.65\00:14:45.98 So they hired that special singer 00:14:46.01\00:14:47.35 to come in on Sunday. 00:14:47.38\00:14:48.72 And that was... And that was... 00:14:48.75\00:14:52.49 I understand that was really a great program. 00:14:52.52\00:14:56.32 Yeah, they said it was packed. 00:14:56.36\00:14:58.86 Pedro is preaching down the road. 00:14:58.89\00:15:00.60 A mile down the road. 00:15:00.63\00:15:02.03 And he's got a packed church. Yes. 00:15:02.06\00:15:03.77 And he's got people coming to Christ 00:15:03.80\00:15:06.17 and the communist official, he's up there. 00:15:06.20\00:15:08.40 And he's got this beautiful Cuban singer. 00:15:08.44\00:15:11.37 And they're going to have 00:15:11.41\00:15:12.74 the greatest concert in the history 00:15:12.77\00:15:14.14 of that part of the world. 00:15:14.18\00:15:15.51 That's right. 00:15:15.54\00:15:16.88 Unfortunately, they didn't take into account the weather. 00:15:16.91\00:15:18.25 No. 00:15:18.28\00:15:19.61 Tell me about it too? Tell me what happened? 00:15:19.65\00:15:20.98 Well, it's started to get cloudy 00:15:21.02\00:15:22.35 and it started to rain pretty badly. 00:15:22.38\00:15:24.29 I mean, we thought, oh, boy, 00:15:24.32\00:15:25.85 this is gonna affect people even coming to the church. 00:15:25.89\00:15:29.02 And we didn't realize just how bad the weather was. 00:15:29.06\00:15:31.99 Did it affect people coming into the church? 00:15:32.03\00:15:33.76 I don't think so because 00:15:33.80\00:15:35.13 there wasn't enough room anyhow. 00:15:35.16\00:15:36.67 You can only have it full, can't you? 00:15:36.70\00:15:38.03 Yeah, I mean, 00:15:38.07\00:15:39.40 they were outside and they were at the windows, 00:15:39.43\00:15:41.97 on the side so they could listen. 00:15:42.00\00:15:43.64 You know, I'm getting impatient, 00:15:43.67\00:15:45.01 tell me what happened up the road? 00:15:45.04\00:15:46.84 So anyway we had no clue what the weather, 00:15:46.88\00:15:49.44 what's gonna happen, whether it was gonna happen 00:15:49.48\00:15:51.51 and all of a sudden the wind started, 00:15:51.55\00:15:54.55 the rain started and it was a downpour, 00:15:54.58\00:15:57.92 and Cuba is not known for tornadoes. 00:15:57.95\00:16:01.02 No. 00:16:01.06\00:16:02.39 And there was a tornado that actually took place. 00:16:02.42\00:16:06.29 A tornado came through 00:16:06.33\00:16:08.20 and you're not gonna believe this, 00:16:08.23\00:16:09.56 but it came through right over the theater 00:16:09.60\00:16:12.83 and the roof was blown off this theater. 00:16:12.87\00:16:15.67 Now, I'm just restraining saying hallelujah. 00:16:15.70\00:16:18.21 So I'm not gonna say that. I know, I know... 00:16:18.24\00:16:19.67 So tell me, what, the roof got blown off. 00:16:19.71\00:16:22.14 The roof got actually blown off the theater. 00:16:22.18\00:16:25.21 With the old communist official sitting there. 00:16:25.25\00:16:27.28 With a full house. 00:16:27.32\00:16:28.78 Packed to the doors. People just... 00:16:28.82\00:16:30.62 The lights were gone, 00:16:30.65\00:16:31.99 because all the lights were gone in the whole city. 00:16:32.02\00:16:33.96 So they're in darkness. 00:16:33.99\00:16:35.32 So it's in darkness, the tornado, the wind, 00:16:35.36\00:16:37.36 and the rain. 00:16:37.39\00:16:38.73 And the roof is gone. And what else did they say? 00:16:45.67\00:16:47.17 Yeah. 00:16:47.20\00:16:48.54 Because of that it caused such a stir, 00:16:48.57\00:16:50.41 the people started running out of the building. 00:16:50.44\00:16:53.24 People were starting to get robbed 00:16:53.27\00:16:54.71 and there was a couple of stabbings also, 00:16:54.74\00:16:56.75 as people were trying to leave the theater. 00:16:56.78\00:16:59.68 And so us down the road, we were only a mile away. 00:16:59.71\00:17:02.98 The only thing that happened to us 00:17:03.02\00:17:04.42 is as Pedro was preaching, 00:17:04.45\00:17:06.22 the power was completely knocked out inside the church. 00:17:06.25\00:17:09.29 But people didn't get up to leave. 00:17:09.32\00:17:11.36 Actually, 00:17:11.39\00:17:12.73 people ended up taking out their cell phone lights, 00:17:12.76\00:17:14.90 using that to light up the stage 00:17:14.93\00:17:16.83 and with no sound equipment, 00:17:16.87\00:17:18.20 Pedro preached just loudly using his voice. 00:17:18.23\00:17:21.77 And people came to Christ. 00:17:21.80\00:17:23.84 Oh! Yes indeed after the program. 00:17:23.87\00:17:27.04 By now it's 10:30, almost 11 o'clock at night. 00:17:27.08\00:17:30.31 And because it started late, he did an altar call, 00:17:30.35\00:17:33.72 and 53 people came 00:17:33.75\00:17:36.18 and decided to give their life to Jesus Christ. 00:17:36.22\00:17:38.45 Now, praise God. Hallelujah. 00:17:38.49\00:17:41.22 If you folks had been up in the other hall... 00:17:41.26\00:17:43.99 Exactly. 00:17:44.03\00:17:45.36 What would have happened? 00:17:45.39\00:17:46.73 The tornado would have blown that roof off of the campaign. 00:17:46.76\00:17:49.26 The chandeliers would have come down on your heads. 00:17:49.30\00:17:51.60 Exactly. 00:17:51.63\00:17:52.97 And it would have been a packed house. 00:17:53.00\00:17:54.34 And I understand 00:17:54.37\00:17:55.70 robbers actually came into the audience... 00:17:55.74\00:17:57.07 Right, right. 00:17:57.11\00:17:58.44 Started stabbing people. 00:17:58.47\00:17:59.81 Yeah, two people were stabbed, Pedro told me. 00:17:59.84\00:18:01.44 And our people were safe down in the church? 00:18:01.48\00:18:03.75 Nothing happened in our church. And praising Jesus. 00:18:03.78\00:18:05.71 Yes. 00:18:05.75\00:18:07.08 And being saved. Exactly. 00:18:07.12\00:18:08.75 And the people who stopped the meetings... 00:18:08.78\00:18:12.32 And that theater got destroyed completely. 00:18:12.35\00:18:14.69 This theater that they wouldn't 00:18:14.72\00:18:16.06 let us use was totally and completely destroyed. 00:18:16.09\00:18:20.90 Yes, I mean, 00:18:20.93\00:18:22.26 we say praise God that we weren't there. 00:18:22.30\00:18:24.70 Yes, hallelujah. 00:18:24.73\00:18:26.07 Even though we were disappointed, 00:18:26.10\00:18:27.50 and we didn't understand why God was allowing us 00:18:27.54\00:18:30.37 to have to go somewhere else. 00:18:30.41\00:18:31.74 Yes, yes. 00:18:31.77\00:18:33.11 And, you know, it was devastating for Pedro, 00:18:33.14\00:18:35.08 but... 00:18:35.11\00:18:36.44 Only temporarily. 00:18:36.48\00:18:37.81 Looking back, 00:18:37.85\00:18:39.18 we're now thankful that we didn't go there. 00:18:39.21\00:18:40.55 It was a tremendous blessing. 00:18:40.58\00:18:41.92 You Know, Susie and Alan and my dear friends, 00:18:41.95\00:18:45.79 who are watching this telecast, there's a text in the Bible, 00:18:45.82\00:18:49.69 Romans 8:28, you know the text. 00:18:49.72\00:18:52.96 That's right. 00:18:52.99\00:18:54.33 Yes, for we know that "God works on all things." 00:18:54.36\00:18:56.60 Yeah. Right. 00:20:56.35\00:20:58.55 Alan, tell me what was Pedro's reaction? 00:20:58.59\00:21:02.39 Initially he was devastated, he had put so much work, 00:21:02.42\00:21:05.59 months and months of work 00:21:05.63\00:21:07.13 into putting this campaign together, 00:21:07.16\00:21:09.33 only to have it taken away from him in the last moment. 00:21:09.36\00:21:11.57 Yeah. 00:21:11.60\00:21:12.93 And I just watched him go from strength to strength 00:21:12.97\00:21:15.04 as he continued to pray and rely on God for strength 00:21:15.07\00:21:19.44 to get through this circumstance. 00:21:19.47\00:21:22.24 And because of that he was able to put together 00:21:22.28\00:21:25.38 and take heed of all of these moving parts for his campaign 00:21:25.41\00:21:29.82 and have a great, powerful, successful campaign 00:21:29.85\00:21:33.05 in the midst of all of this seeming tragedy. 00:21:33.09\00:21:36.32 And I'm sure, he saw the hand of God. 00:21:36.36\00:21:39.09 He really did. Yeah. 00:21:39.13\00:21:40.46 It was a powerful experience for him. 00:21:40.50\00:21:41.83 When man closes a door, God always opens a window. 00:21:41.86\00:21:45.57 Exactly. 00:21:45.60\00:21:47.44 We've seen some tremendous defeats apparently, 00:21:47.47\00:21:54.34 awful defeats where doors have closed. 00:21:54.38\00:21:58.55 And then we've seen the mighty hand of God, 00:21:58.58\00:22:02.08 as He has open a window 00:22:02.12\00:22:03.62 that has been much bigger than the door that man closed. 00:22:03.65\00:22:06.15 That's right. That's right. 00:22:06.19\00:22:08.46 I just want to say to the audience 00:22:08.49\00:22:10.76 watching today, 00:22:10.79\00:22:12.13 you should never give up or be discouraged 00:22:12.16\00:22:16.67 when a door closes. 00:22:16.70\00:22:18.47 God closes the door so He can open a better door. 00:22:18.50\00:22:24.54 God never takes anything away from you that is really good, 00:22:24.57\00:22:28.78 unless He's got something that's really better. 00:22:28.81\00:22:30.71 That's right. Exactly. 00:22:30.75\00:22:32.08 And I think this was a pivotal moment for Pedro. 00:22:32.11\00:22:35.38 Oh, yes, he'll never forget this. 00:22:35.42\00:22:37.52 In his work, this has just given an impetus 00:22:37.55\00:22:39.85 for him to continue to do more 00:22:39.89\00:22:41.92 and to keep going in spite of all the obstacles 00:22:41.96\00:22:44.03 that he faces on a daily basis. 00:22:44.06\00:22:46.09 And he's got... You know. 00:24:03.14\00:24:05.61 What good is a degree if you don't use it 00:24:05.64\00:24:07.78 for the purpose that is intended? 00:24:07.81\00:24:09.51 Absolutely. 00:24:09.54\00:24:11.08 Now, the greatest theologian in the world 00:24:11.11\00:24:13.92 since Christ was the Apostle Paul. 00:24:13.95\00:24:16.28 That's right. 00:24:16.32\00:24:17.65 That people, lot of people don't realize this, my friend. 00:24:17.69\00:24:19.95 He was not an armchair theologian. 00:24:19.99\00:24:21.89 Sure, he wasn't. 00:24:21.92\00:24:23.26 He was a preacher, he was an evangelist. 00:24:23.29\00:24:26.63 And when you have people tell you that 00:24:26.66\00:24:28.10 evangelism doesn't work, 00:24:28.13\00:24:29.56 and we shouldn't do it, 00:24:29.60\00:24:31.10 they're going against the teachings of the Bible. 00:24:31.13\00:24:35.34 That's right. They're fighting God. 00:24:35.37\00:24:38.91 Now, listen to this text, Paul say, verse 14, 00:24:38.94\00:24:41.41 "I'm a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, 00:24:41.44\00:24:45.28 both to wise and unwise." 00:24:45.31\00:24:47.88 He's a debtor because he's been saved. 00:24:47.92\00:24:50.15 Yes. 00:24:50.19\00:24:51.52 Therefore he got to share. 00:24:51.55\00:24:53.89 He says, 00:24:53.92\00:24:55.26 "As much as is in me, 00:24:55.29\00:24:56.62 I am ready to preach the gospel to you 00:24:56.66\00:24:58.73 who are in Rome also." 00:24:58.76\00:25:01.70 I'm a debtor. That's right. 00:25:01.73\00:25:03.33 I'm ready and then he says, 00:25:03.37\00:25:05.03 "I'm not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, 00:25:05.07\00:25:07.47 for it is the power of God to salvation 00:25:07.50\00:25:10.71 for everyone who believes." 00:25:10.74\00:25:13.07 Now, we believe it. 00:25:13.11\00:25:15.68 Yes. 00:25:15.71\00:25:17.05 You believe it? Definitely. 00:25:17.08\00:25:18.58 Listen, my friend, Pedro believes it. 00:25:18.61\00:25:21.38 The question is, do you believe it? 00:25:21.42\00:25:23.92 The Bible says 00:25:23.95\00:25:25.29 that gospel is the power of God to salvation. 00:25:25.32\00:25:28.46 And if you go into all the world, 00:25:28.49\00:25:30.43 and we've done this 00:25:30.46\00:25:31.79 and we have seen the power of God. 00:25:31.83\00:25:33.19 We certainly have 00:25:33.23\00:25:35.00 and it's been evident every single time, 00:25:35.03\00:25:37.87 it never fails. 00:25:37.90\00:25:39.23 So the people that say it doesn't work, 00:25:39.27\00:25:41.74 it's because they've never done it, and they've never... 00:25:41.77\00:25:43.30 And because they don't work. 00:25:43.34\00:25:44.67 Right, and they've never experienced the power. 00:25:44.71\00:25:46.04 And because they don't have faith. 00:25:46.07\00:25:47.41 Exactly. 00:25:47.44\00:25:48.78 And because they've never seen the power of God. 00:25:48.81\00:25:50.15 That's right. That's right, so... 00:25:50.18\00:25:51.65 Thank God, we have one Pedro. 00:25:51.68\00:25:55.58 Our man in Havana.
