Atheists must think that God is important 00:00:01.36\00:00:03.03 because they seem to talk about Him 00:00:03.06\00:00:04.47 so much of the time. 00:00:04.50\00:00:06.30 They're right, of course. 00:00:06.33\00:00:07.77 God even matters a great deal or He doesn't matter at all? 00:00:07.80\00:00:12.11 Science now shows God's existence 00:00:12.14\00:00:14.71 is highly probable. 00:00:14.74\00:00:16.38 If He really does exist, 00:00:16.41\00:00:18.15 then an intelligent understanding 00:00:18.18\00:00:19.75 of the original prime mover is immensely important. 00:00:19.78\00:00:23.45 Who is God? 00:00:23.49\00:00:25.25 Is He a person 00:00:25.29\00:00:26.82 or just a blind impersonal force? 00:00:26.86\00:00:29.52 Was Jesus God? 00:00:29.56\00:00:31.33 Find out today on the Carter Report. 00:00:31.36\00:00:33.90 Welcome today. 00:00:38.40\00:00:40.07 The topic is. 00:00:40.10\00:00:42.17 "God, what's He like?" 00:00:42.20\00:00:48.14 In that classic movie, The Ten Commandments, 00:00:48.18\00:00:51.98 God appears as the Almighty God who is so amazing, 00:00:52.01\00:00:58.15 so transcendent that 00:00:58.19\00:01:00.06 He comes in a flame of fire in the burning bush. 00:01:00.09\00:01:05.76 My son David gave me another movie 00:01:05.79\00:01:08.40 on The Ten Commandments called The Exodus. 00:01:08.43\00:01:12.20 I was somewhat amazed 00:01:12.23\00:01:14.00 because God in the movie The Exodus 00:01:14.04\00:01:17.91 appears as a little boy. 00:01:17.94\00:01:22.78 To me that 00:01:22.81\00:01:24.15 just didn't seem to be right because in The Ten Commandments 00:01:24.18\00:01:28.72 God appears and He says, "Moses," remember? 00:01:28.75\00:01:33.72 Moses. 00:01:33.76\00:01:35.92 Who are you? 00:01:35.96\00:01:38.86 And He says, "I'm the Almighty." 00:01:38.89\00:01:40.36 But in the movie, The Exodus, 00:01:43.63\00:01:46.43 He doesn't appear as the great God 00:01:46.47\00:01:48.77 of Charlton Heston, 00:01:48.80\00:01:52.17 but He appears as a little boy. 00:01:52.21\00:01:56.18 And when I thought about it, I thought, 00:01:56.21\00:01:57.81 "Well, maybe there's a point there." 00:01:57.85\00:02:01.88 The topic is, "God, what's He like?" 00:02:01.92\00:02:06.49 The most important statement 00:02:06.52\00:02:08.49 that has ever been made 00:02:08.52\00:02:10.49 in the history of the affairs of men is Genesis 1:1. 00:02:10.53\00:02:15.80 Look at it in the Bible. 00:02:15.83\00:02:18.20 Book of Genesis, 00:02:18.23\00:02:19.70 it means the Book of Beginnings, 00:02:19.73\00:02:22.50 Genesis 1:1, 00:02:22.54\00:02:25.64 easily the most important words. 00:02:25.67\00:02:28.34 "In the beginning 00:02:28.38\00:02:30.85 God created the heavens and the earth." 00:02:30.88\00:02:35.92 So in the beginning whenever that was, 00:02:35.95\00:02:41.69 God was there. 00:02:41.72\00:02:43.36 The most important statement ever made. 00:02:43.39\00:02:45.06 Now I want to start with four stories, 00:02:45.09\00:02:47.63 and I'm going to share these with you. 00:02:47.66\00:02:50.40 The first is about the great Professor Hubble. 00:02:50.43\00:02:54.44 Now we live in Southern California, 00:02:54.47\00:02:56.20 this great place. 00:02:56.24\00:02:58.54 And there's this tremendous picture 00:02:58.57\00:03:00.64 that we've got here, 00:03:00.68\00:03:02.01 and we've put it up on the screen, 00:03:02.04\00:03:03.45 and it shows the great Professor Einstein. 00:03:03.48\00:03:07.22 And here, the man 00:03:07.25\00:03:08.82 with the pipe is Professor Hubble. 00:03:08.85\00:03:12.79 You know the story. 00:03:12.82\00:03:14.79 One of the greatest of all stories. 00:03:14.82\00:03:16.89 You're not going to hear this in church too often. 00:03:16.93\00:03:21.66 But Einstein did not believe in the beginning. 00:03:21.70\00:03:24.93 He said, "There's never been a beginning. 00:03:24.97\00:03:28.37 The universe has always been there." 00:03:28.40\00:03:31.27 Greatest mind, Einstein. 00:03:31.31\00:03:33.48 But Hubble talking to the telescope 00:03:33.51\00:03:36.34 and he showed him some pictures, 00:03:36.38\00:03:39.08 and in the pictures you have a phenomenon 00:03:39.11\00:03:41.78 that is called the red shift. 00:03:41.82\00:03:45.75 Now scientists know what I'm talking about. 00:03:45.79\00:03:48.66 It means that the universe is exploding out, 00:03:48.69\00:03:52.43 it's moving out. 00:03:52.46\00:03:53.80 The galaxies are moving apart from each other, 00:03:53.83\00:03:57.17 some of them almost at the speed of light. 00:03:57.20\00:03:59.93 This proves without a shadow of a doubt 00:03:59.97\00:04:04.84 that the universe had a beginning. 00:04:04.87\00:04:11.78 And if the universe 00:04:11.81\00:04:13.75 had a beginning, listen to this, 00:04:13.78\00:04:16.79 a beginning implies what? 00:04:16.82\00:04:19.92 A beginner. 00:04:19.95\00:04:23.02 A beginning implies a beginner. 00:04:23.06\00:04:27.20 And Einstein came to believe in God, 00:04:27.23\00:04:31.00 in Almighty God 00:04:31.03\00:04:33.50 who was the great beginner. 00:04:33.54\00:04:36.27 Story number one. Story number two. 00:04:36.30\00:04:38.87 Before Einstein became very, very famous 00:04:38.91\00:04:44.08 here in the United States of America, 00:04:44.11\00:04:46.35 he used to travel around from university to university 00:04:46.38\00:04:49.85 and he would explain the theory of relativity. 00:04:49.88\00:04:53.09 And, of course, you all understand. 00:04:53.12\00:04:54.99 E equals MC square. 00:04:55.02\00:04:58.36 He had a car driver, 00:04:58.39\00:05:00.30 now nobody knew Professor Einstein 00:05:00.33\00:05:02.26 in those days. 00:05:02.30\00:05:03.63 They didn't know what he looked like, 00:05:03.67\00:05:05.00 so he'd go to Harvard University, 00:05:05.03\00:05:06.63 he'd give this tremendous lecture, 00:05:06.67\00:05:09.50 and the car driver used to sit down in the back. 00:05:09.54\00:05:14.64 But he gave the lectures so many, many, times 00:05:14.68\00:05:19.71 that the car driver memorized it. 00:05:19.75\00:05:22.12 He got to know it off by heart. 00:05:22.15\00:05:26.15 One night when they got to Princeton somewhere, 00:05:26.19\00:05:29.42 Einstein wasn't feeling too good. 00:05:29.46\00:05:31.43 So he said to the car driver, "Now look, 00:05:31.46\00:05:33.63 I'm not feeling so good tonight, he said, 00:05:33.66\00:05:37.17 you know my lecture off by heart, don't you? 00:05:37.20\00:05:38.77 He said, "Yeah, sure I know it all by heart." 00:05:38.80\00:05:40.97 He said, "Well, I'm going to sit down in the back 00:05:41.00\00:05:43.37 and I'll pretend to be the car driver, 00:05:43.41\00:05:45.14 you go up the front and give the lecture, 00:05:45.17\00:05:46.94 so he went up 00:05:46.98\00:05:48.31 in front of all the scientists at Princeton someway, 00:05:48.34\00:05:50.58 he gave this magnificent lecture by rote, 00:05:50.61\00:05:54.18 just off by heart about the theory of relativity, 00:05:54.22\00:05:58.45 and everything was great until he got to the end. 00:05:58.49\00:06:00.99 When he got to the end, 00:06:01.02\00:06:02.46 another famous scientist got up and he said, 00:06:02.49\00:06:06.49 "I'd like to ask 00:06:06.53\00:06:07.86 the great Professor Einstein a question. 00:06:07.90\00:06:12.50 Then he asked the car driver, 00:06:12.53\00:06:16.97 he asked him this question about the theory of relativity. 00:06:17.01\00:06:22.51 Well, Einstein was sweating down in the back, 00:06:22.54\00:06:24.08 he thought what on earth is he going to do. 00:06:24.11\00:06:25.58 How is he gonna get out of this one. 00:06:25.61\00:06:27.98 And the car driver's up the front 00:06:28.02\00:06:30.69 and he said without missing a beat. 00:06:30.72\00:06:33.69 Oh, he said, Doctor, he said, 00:06:33.72\00:06:37.09 "Your question is a very good one 00:06:37.13\00:06:39.59 but it's so very easy that anybody could answer." 00:06:39.63\00:06:43.47 And I'm going to ask my car driver 00:06:43.50\00:06:45.43 who is sitting down the back 00:06:45.47\00:06:47.04 if he'd come up the front 00:06:47.07\00:06:48.40 and if he'd answer your question. 00:06:48.44\00:06:52.11 But Einstein, this person 00:06:52.14\00:06:54.28 who once did not believe in a beginning, 00:06:54.31\00:06:57.58 who believed in the steady state theory, 00:06:57.61\00:07:00.75 because of what Professor Hubble showed him 00:07:00.78\00:07:02.75 came to believe 00:07:02.78\00:07:05.05 in the beginning of the universe 00:07:05.09\00:07:06.76 and a beginning implies a beginner. 00:07:06.79\00:07:10.56 A great friend of mine is Dr. Hugh Ross 00:07:10.59\00:07:12.76 from Reasons to Believe. 00:07:12.79\00:07:14.76 He is a great scientist, astrophysicist, 00:07:14.80\00:07:16.67 one of the best in the world. 00:07:16.70\00:07:19.83 For years he taught at Celtic. 00:07:19.87\00:07:23.10 Celtic, we're proud to say 00:07:23.14\00:07:25.47 is here in Southern California 00:07:25.51\00:07:28.44 and it is probably the greatest institution, 00:07:28.48\00:07:32.71 the greatest university 00:07:32.75\00:07:34.15 as far as physics and astronomy are concerned. 00:07:34.18\00:07:39.35 Dr. Hugh Ross was on the faculty of Celtic. 00:07:39.39\00:07:43.63 While he was there he discovered quasars. 00:07:43.66\00:07:47.23 I interviewed him just a few weeks ago. 00:07:47.26\00:07:49.00 He's a great friend and a great scientist, 00:07:49.03\00:07:51.60 he told me this. 00:07:51.63\00:07:52.97 He said, "I'll tell you there are no scientists 00:07:53.00\00:07:54.64 who believe in God. 00:07:54.67\00:07:56.00 You got to be a fool to believe in God." 00:07:56.04\00:07:57.91 He says, "It's not so." 00:07:57.94\00:07:59.74 He said, "I was amazed when I went 00:07:59.77\00:08:01.54 to the greatest university in the world 00:08:01.58\00:08:04.25 as far as physics and astronomy are concerned 00:08:04.28\00:08:07.78 that I met there 00:08:07.82\00:08:09.15 some of the most devout followers of Jesus Christ. 00:08:09.18\00:08:11.95 He said, "Scientists after scientists 00:08:11.99\00:08:14.19 because of science itself 00:08:14.22\00:08:19.59 had been forced to believe in the beginning." 00:08:19.63\00:08:23.00 And a beginning implies a beginner. 00:08:23.03\00:08:29.87 Now most of you have heard of Dr. Richard Dawkins. 00:08:29.90\00:08:35.04 Probably the most famous atheist 00:08:35.08\00:08:38.45 in the world today, 00:08:38.48\00:08:40.75 great brain, he's an Englishman, 00:08:40.78\00:08:43.15 he's had a number of debates 00:08:43.18\00:08:44.69 with the great Dr. John Lennox of Oxford University. 00:08:44.72\00:08:49.66 Dawkins and Lennox, 00:08:49.69\00:08:51.46 you want to go online 00:08:51.49\00:08:52.83 and you ought to see these amazing debates. 00:08:52.86\00:08:57.07 In one of the debates, 00:08:57.10\00:08:59.13 Dawkins was ridiculing the great Professor Lennox, 00:08:59.17\00:09:03.47 who's a mathematician from Oxford University 00:09:03.51\00:09:06.07 because of his faith. 00:09:06.11\00:09:07.71 He said, "It's stupid. 00:09:07.74\00:09:09.78 You have a blind faith." 00:09:09.81\00:09:11.15 It's stupid, words to that effect. 00:09:11.18\00:09:14.85 Dr. Lennox said, "Richard, may I ask you a question." 00:09:14.88\00:09:19.05 He said, "Yes, yes." 00:09:19.09\00:09:21.69 He said, "Do you have faith in your wife?" 00:09:21.72\00:09:25.89 You'll see this online. 00:09:25.93\00:09:27.30 Do you have faith in your wife? 00:09:27.33\00:09:29.66 And almost with a little indignation, 00:09:29.70\00:09:32.50 he said, "Yes, of course, I have faith in my wife." 00:09:32.53\00:09:35.40 He said, "Why do you have faith in your wife?" 00:09:35.44\00:09:37.17 He said, "Because of the way she looks at me, 00:09:37.21\00:09:39.41 the things she does." 00:09:39.44\00:09:41.41 Dr. Lennox said, he said, "Because of evidence, 00:09:41.44\00:09:43.81 he said, yes, because of the evidence 00:09:43.85\00:09:45.98 that you should." 00:09:46.01\00:09:48.18 He said, "So your faith rests upon evidence." 00:09:48.22\00:09:50.39 "Yes." 00:09:50.42\00:09:51.75 He said, "That's exactly the same as my faith. 00:09:51.79\00:09:54.76 I have faith in God. 00:09:54.79\00:09:56.22 It is not a blind faith, 00:09:56.26\00:09:57.73 but I have faith in God 00:09:57.76\00:09:59.23 because of the overwhelming evidence." 00:09:59.26\00:10:02.03 And so, my friends, I ask you to believe today 00:10:02.06\00:10:04.97 and I asked the television audience 00:10:05.00\00:10:06.84 to believe today 00:10:06.87\00:10:08.20 not because of blind faith which I do not believe in, 00:10:08.24\00:10:11.81 but I believe in an intelligent faith 00:10:11.84\00:10:15.41 that is based on evidence. 00:10:15.44\00:10:18.61 Listen to this. 00:10:18.65\00:10:19.98 I've discovered this. 00:10:20.02\00:10:22.12 The real reason many scientists reject God 00:10:22.15\00:10:24.52 is because of the awful things professing Christians have done 00:10:24.55\00:10:29.16 not because of the scientific facts. 00:10:29.19\00:10:32.73 Many of the great atheists in the world today 00:10:32.76\00:10:35.33 have become atheists 00:10:35.36\00:10:36.87 because they were abused in the church by pedophiles. 00:10:36.90\00:10:42.00 Now I'm not going to mention some of them by name, 00:10:42.04\00:10:44.87 but some of the most outspoken critiques of God 00:10:44.91\00:10:48.71 were abused 00:10:48.74\00:10:52.31 in the church by a priest. 00:10:52.35\00:10:55.48 So they're atheists not because of science, 00:10:57.52\00:11:00.82 but because of the abuse of so-called Christians. 00:11:00.86\00:11:04.73 I would say this today. 00:11:04.76\00:11:08.20 Try to lay aside your hurts 00:11:08.23\00:11:11.60 and the terrible sins of so-called Christians 00:11:11.63\00:11:14.80 that we see everywhere and look at the evidence. 00:11:14.84\00:11:21.44 The great text is this, the greatest statement. 00:11:21.48\00:11:24.71 In the beginning, 00:11:24.75\00:11:26.31 God created the heavens and the earth, 00:11:26.35\00:11:29.65 and a beginning demands a beginner. 00:11:29.68\00:11:35.89 This is why many atheists for so many years 00:11:35.92\00:11:38.99 have fought the discovery of the so-called Big Bang. 00:11:39.03\00:11:42.96 It was called the Big Bang 00:11:43.00\00:11:44.43 as a term of derision for the act of creation 00:11:44.47\00:11:48.94 because scientists did not want to believe in it. 00:11:48.97\00:11:51.97 But now today we have overwhelming evidence 00:11:52.01\00:11:55.91 that the universe was made, 00:11:55.94\00:11:57.78 we're not talking about this earth, 00:11:57.81\00:12:00.45 but the universe was made 13.78 billion years ago. 00:12:00.48\00:12:07.29 People say, "No, no. 00:12:07.32\00:12:08.66 You can't believe this, that's against." 00:12:08.69\00:12:10.03 No, no, it's not against the Bible, goodness. 00:12:10.06\00:12:13.90 We're not talking about the age of the earth, 00:12:13.93\00:12:15.76 we're talking about the age of the cosmos. 00:12:15.80\00:12:19.63 How old is God? 00:12:19.67\00:12:21.67 Last weekend, Beverley and I went to San Francisco. 00:12:21.70\00:12:27.24 Ostensibly to see our daughters, 00:12:27.28\00:12:29.04 but really to see our grandchildren. 00:12:29.08\00:12:32.85 My little granddaughter Amalie said to me, "Grandpa." 00:12:32.88\00:12:36.99 Yes. "Grandpa." 00:12:37.02\00:12:38.49 Yes, come on. 00:12:38.52\00:12:39.85 "Grandpa." 00:12:39.89\00:12:41.22 Yes, yes, Amalie. 00:12:41.26\00:12:42.69 "Grandpa, how old are you?" 00:12:42.72\00:12:45.26 She said, "Are you millions and millions?" 00:12:45.29\00:12:48.46 No, not really, Amalie, 00:12:52.27\00:12:54.50 maybe I'm starting to look millions and millions, 00:12:54.54\00:12:57.74 but no, not millions and millions 00:12:57.77\00:13:01.61 but God is. 00:13:01.64\00:13:03.24 Universe as we know it 00:13:03.28\00:13:05.65 came into being in a flash of light and fury 00:13:05.68\00:13:08.92 13.8 billion years ago. 00:13:08.95\00:13:11.92 You say, "I don't believe it." 00:13:11.95\00:13:13.89 Well, do some study. 00:13:13.92\00:13:16.62 We know the universe 00:13:16.66\00:13:17.99 is bursting out like a big giant firecracker, 00:13:18.03\00:13:22.30 and we know how fast it's bursting out. 00:13:22.33\00:13:24.47 Can be measured with telescopes. 00:13:24.50\00:13:26.60 You can see it. No, no, you can't. 00:13:26.63\00:13:28.77 No, well maybe, 00:13:28.80\00:13:30.14 you haven't seen it but others have seen it. 00:13:30.17\00:13:32.87 And they've measured the speed 00:13:32.91\00:13:34.44 and they can find out when it started. 00:13:34.48\00:13:39.45 The universe started 13.78 00:13:39.48\00:13:43.65 or let's say 13.8 billion years ago, 00:13:43.69\00:13:46.65 and God was there. 00:13:46.69\00:13:49.79 He was there before Genesis 1:1. 00:13:49.82\00:13:52.69 You ever thought of this? 00:13:52.73\00:13:54.50 Oh, no, God lives up on a planet somewhere. 00:13:54.53\00:13:56.70 No, no, no. 00:13:56.73\00:13:59.43 He was there before... 00:13:59.47\00:14:01.34 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 00:14:01.37\00:14:05.34 He was there before time was created. 00:14:05.37\00:14:09.04 Look at Titus 1:2. 00:14:09.08\00:14:12.91 Now this is a text that is quite extraordinary 00:14:12.95\00:14:16.42 in hope of eternal life 00:14:16.45\00:14:18.12 which God who cannot lie promised, 00:14:18.15\00:14:20.86 what does it say? 00:14:20.89\00:14:22.69 Please look at them, what does it say. 00:14:22.72\00:14:25.26 Tell me, come on. 00:14:25.29\00:14:27.00 Before time began. 00:14:27.03\00:14:30.80 People say, "No, no, no, there's always been." 00:14:30.83\00:14:33.00 No, no, it hasn't always been time. 00:14:33.03\00:14:36.81 It is now, look at me, 00:14:36.84\00:14:39.31 it is now a scientific fact 00:14:39.34\00:14:44.11 that time came into being at the point of creation. 00:14:44.15\00:14:49.32 Who believes this? 00:14:49.35\00:14:50.72 Only Christians. No, no, no. 00:14:50.75\00:14:53.25 Richard Dawkins believes it, all the scientists believe it. 00:14:53.29\00:14:58.33 Time did not exist 00:14:58.36\00:15:00.06 before the creation of the planet. 00:15:00.10\00:15:03.83 This is a confirmed scientific truths. 00:15:03.87\00:15:09.20 So God existed before the beginning of time. 00:15:09.24\00:15:11.87 Now listen to this one. 00:15:11.91\00:15:14.11 Because He existed before time, 00:15:14.14\00:15:16.41 there was never a time when God did not exist. 00:15:16.44\00:15:19.41 Did you get that? 00:15:19.45\00:15:21.68 So it does away with the question, 00:15:21.72\00:15:23.32 where did God come from? 00:15:23.35\00:15:26.09 Where did God come from? 00:15:26.12\00:15:27.46 No, that's a silly question now, 00:15:27.49\00:15:29.96 because God is not in time, time is in God. 00:15:29.99\00:15:34.63 And time came into being 13.78 billion years ago. 00:15:34.66\00:15:40.30 He was there before Genesis 1:1. 00:15:40.34\00:15:43.61 So God is older than 13.8 billion years. 00:15:43.64\00:15:50.08 Look at Psalm 90:2. 00:15:50.11\00:15:53.11 Psalm 90:2, 00:15:53.15\00:15:55.48 "Before the mountains were brought forth, 00:15:55.52\00:15:58.69 or ever You would form the earth and the world. 00:15:58.72\00:16:01.99 Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God." 00:16:02.02\00:16:07.26 So from everlasting to everlasting. 00:16:07.30\00:16:10.70 No beginning and no ending. 00:16:10.73\00:16:13.00 Do I understand it? No, I don't. 00:16:13.03\00:16:15.47 Look at Exodus 3:14. 00:16:15.50\00:16:17.87 Exodus Chapter 3 00:16:17.91\00:16:20.41 in the Holy Scriptures written we believe by Moses. 00:16:20.44\00:16:26.85 "God said to Moses, 00:16:26.88\00:16:29.45 'I AM WHO I AM.' 00:16:29.48\00:16:31.52 And He said, 00:16:31.55\00:16:32.89 'Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 00:16:32.92\00:16:35.86 'I AM has sent me to you." 00:16:35.89\00:16:39.29 I AM. 00:16:39.33\00:16:41.83 Now this term, 00:16:41.86\00:16:43.83 I AM refers to this being 00:16:43.87\00:16:48.14 whose name is flashing up on the television war. 00:16:48.17\00:16:53.51 This is a word that is so sacred and so holy 00:16:53.54\00:16:58.81 that the Jewish rabbis will not take this name upon their lips. 00:16:58.85\00:17:03.52 I could tell you stories about this. 00:17:03.55\00:17:06.82 I was in Jerusalem with a rabbi, 00:17:06.86\00:17:09.02 was translating the scriptures. 00:17:09.06\00:17:11.56 And when he came to the name Yahweh, 00:17:11.59\00:17:16.26 he got, washed his hands, took a new pen. 00:17:16.30\00:17:20.67 And I said, there is the name Yahweh. 00:17:20.70\00:17:23.47 He blanched it, looked at me. 00:17:23.51\00:17:26.17 So I were a heathen man. 00:17:26.21\00:17:29.08 And you hear people continually down the street on television, 00:17:29.11\00:17:32.21 people in church say, "Oh, my God." 00:17:32.25\00:17:36.42 Do they not realize whom they are dealing with? 00:17:36.45\00:17:40.32 They're not dealing with the president 00:17:40.36\00:17:41.92 of the United States. 00:17:41.96\00:17:43.29 They're dealing with a God of fire. 00:17:43.32\00:17:46.59 The Almighty God, people think He's just like us. 00:17:49.90\00:17:54.74 No, He's not. 00:17:54.77\00:17:56.87 Almighty God. 00:17:56.91\00:17:59.54 The capital of Australia 00:17:59.57\00:18:00.91 is a city by the name of Canberra. 00:18:00.94\00:18:03.48 I think it's very beautiful city. 00:18:03.51\00:18:05.61 I went to the Australian War Memorial Museum. 00:18:05.65\00:18:10.25 This is the memorial museum. 00:18:10.29\00:18:13.36 We used to live in Canberra. 00:18:13.39\00:18:14.76 This is the new house of parliament, 00:18:14.79\00:18:16.86 and this is the avenue 00:18:16.89\00:18:18.93 that runs down to the houses of parliament. 00:18:18.96\00:18:22.93 It's very moving because it tells you of all the wars 00:18:22.96\00:18:27.50 that the Australians have been in. 00:18:27.54\00:18:29.60 The only country that has fought 00:18:29.64\00:18:31.34 with the American side by side for the last 100 years 00:18:31.37\00:18:36.34 have been the Australians. 00:18:36.38\00:18:38.11 You say, "Oh, the British, the French." 00:18:38.15\00:18:39.91 No, no, no. 00:18:39.95\00:18:42.52 The Australians. 00:18:42.55\00:18:44.02 That's why John McCain loved Australia. 00:18:44.05\00:18:46.62 But if you go in there, 00:18:46.65\00:18:48.59 high up over this memorial in other words. 00:18:48.62\00:18:53.76 Deuteronomy 33:27. 00:18:53.80\00:18:57.97 Look at them in the Bible. 00:18:58.00\00:18:59.40 Deuteronomy 33:27. 00:18:59.43\00:19:04.37 In the Australian War Memorial, 00:19:04.41\00:19:06.94 "the eternal God is your refuge, 00:19:06.98\00:19:09.58 the eternal God, 00:19:09.61\00:19:11.15 and underneath are the everlasting arms, 00:19:11.18\00:19:14.05 He will thrust out the enemy from before you 00:19:14.08\00:19:17.05 and will say, 'Destroy.'" 00:19:17.09\00:19:20.52 Eternal God. 00:19:20.56\00:19:22.09 Let me tell you, folk, something. 00:19:22.12\00:19:25.19 When you go into battle 00:19:25.23\00:19:27.03 and there's blood, 00:19:27.06\00:19:30.67 you want the eternal God. 00:19:30.70\00:19:32.37 There are no atheists on the front lines. 00:19:32.40\00:19:36.47 When we are confronted by death and loss, 00:19:40.88\00:19:44.45 the cry of the human heart 00:19:44.48\00:19:45.85 is for the warm embrace of the eternal God. 00:19:45.88\00:19:49.82 He was our refuge. 00:19:49.85\00:19:51.19 Just recently, 00:19:51.22\00:19:53.66 the former governor general of Australia, 00:19:53.69\00:19:58.36 the honorable Bill Hayden, 00:19:58.39\00:20:01.90 who was a confirmed outspoken atheist, 00:20:01.93\00:20:07.80 came in out of the cold and confessed. 00:20:07.84\00:20:10.04 All of my arguments were weak, 00:20:10.07\00:20:16.34 and has become a believer in Christ. 00:20:16.38\00:20:20.15 We all hunger for the embrace of the eternal God. 00:20:20.18\00:20:26.35 So what is God like? 00:20:26.39\00:20:27.89 Let us see 00:20:27.92\00:20:29.26 if we can paint a picture today of this eternal God. 00:20:29.29\00:20:35.76 Firstly the Bible says, "God is a Spirit." 00:20:35.80\00:20:40.90 Not like us. 00:20:40.94\00:20:43.37 Jesus referred to His Father in John 4:23 and 24. 00:20:43.41\00:20:50.08 And I would like you to turn to this text 00:20:50.11\00:20:54.02 in John 4:23 00:20:54.05\00:20:59.29 and 24. 00:20:59.32\00:21:03.53 "But the hour is coming, Jesus said, 00:21:03.56\00:21:07.83 and now it is when the true worshipers 00:21:07.86\00:21:10.13 will worship the Father in spirit and truth, 00:21:10.17\00:21:14.50 for the Father is seeking such to worship Him." 00:21:14.54\00:21:17.51 What does it say? 00:21:17.54\00:21:18.91 God is Spirit 00:21:18.94\00:21:21.41 and those who worship Him 00:21:21.44\00:21:23.55 must worship in Spirit 00:21:23.58\00:21:26.92 and in truth now. 00:21:26.95\00:21:30.89 A Spirit does not have flesh and blood and bones 00:21:30.92\00:21:34.72 as you see that I have. 00:21:34.76\00:21:38.63 What is the Spirit? We have no idea really. 00:21:38.66\00:21:42.60 We do know that the vast mass of the universe, 00:21:42.63\00:21:46.13 99% of the universe, 00:21:46.17\00:21:48.80 this is pretty new, 00:21:48.84\00:21:51.11 this material, 00:21:51.14\00:21:52.47 99% percent of the universe is composed of stuff 00:21:52.51\00:21:56.68 that is called Dark Matter and Dark Energy. 00:21:56.71\00:22:01.75 Out in the universe you have 2 trillion galaxies. 00:22:01.78\00:22:07.46 You can see them, 00:22:07.49\00:22:08.82 but you can't see dark matter. 00:22:08.86\00:22:11.56 99.7 percent not of the observable universe, 00:22:11.59\00:22:17.07 but of the universe that we know exists 00:22:17.10\00:22:21.04 is composed of dark matter, you can't see it. 00:22:21.07\00:22:26.37 Nobody knows what it is. 00:22:26.41\00:22:28.54 We couldn't exist without it. 00:22:28.58\00:22:30.08 It's a newly discovered phenomenon. 00:22:30.11\00:22:32.61 And God's a bit like that. 00:22:36.75\00:22:39.85 You can't see Him, 00:22:39.89\00:22:43.43 but everything is dependent on Him. 00:22:43.46\00:22:46.93 So He's not an impersonal Spirit. 00:22:46.96\00:22:48.86 The Bible says, "He is a person." 00:22:48.90\00:22:51.63 Genesis 1:26 and 27. 00:22:51.67\00:22:55.24 Look in the Bible, 00:22:55.27\00:22:56.74 come back to Genesis 1:26 00:22:56.77\00:23:02.04 and 27. 00:23:02.08\00:23:04.05 Genesis 1:26 and 27, 00:23:04.08\00:23:08.52 "And God said, 'Let us, that's interesting us, 00:23:08.55\00:23:13.52 make man in Our image according to our likeness, 00:23:13.56\00:23:18.36 let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, 00:23:18.39\00:23:20.50 over the birds of the air, 00:23:20.53\00:23:21.86 and over the cattle of all the earth 00:23:21.90\00:23:23.87 and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.' 00:23:23.90\00:23:26.47 So God created man in His own image, 00:23:26.50\00:23:32.71 in the image of God He created him, 00:23:32.74\00:23:35.54 male and female He created them.'" 00:23:35.58\00:23:39.01 So even God doesn't have a body 00:23:41.22\00:23:43.95 as you see that I have a flesh and bones. 00:23:43.99\00:23:49.32 God is a person. 00:23:49.36\00:23:51.13 He has emotions, 00:23:51.16\00:23:53.46 He has feelings, 00:23:53.50\00:23:55.43 He can be stirred, 00:23:55.46\00:23:58.03 He can bind everything that is good in everyone. 00:23:58.07\00:24:03.41 Let us make man in our image 00:24:03.44\00:24:05.47 and He made men and women, you see. 00:24:05.51\00:24:10.48 And we are a dim reflection of Yahweh, Elohim, 00:24:10.51\00:24:16.28 He is all loving. 00:24:16.32\00:24:19.65 He's full of love, 00:24:19.69\00:24:21.16 He's the source of love, 00:24:21.19\00:24:22.79 His main characteristic is love. 00:24:22.82\00:24:25.53 1 John 4:8 are the words. 00:24:25.56\00:24:30.17 1 John, "He who does not love does not know God..." 00:24:30.20\00:24:34.50 If you don't love, 00:24:34.54\00:24:35.87 if you don't have love in your heart, 00:24:35.90\00:24:37.24 then you don't know God. 00:24:37.27\00:24:39.77 "For God is love." 00:24:39.81\00:24:41.61 It doesn't say that love is God, 00:24:41.64\00:24:45.91 but it says that God is love. 00:24:45.95\00:24:49.78 And He filled the world with beauty, 00:24:49.82\00:24:52.35 because He loves us and wants us to be happy. 00:24:52.39\00:24:57.03 I'm just amazed as you go around 00:24:57.06\00:25:00.26 and you see the beauty even in my own yard 00:25:00.30\00:25:03.57 in Thousand Oaks, 00:25:03.60\00:25:05.77 and the roses, and the flowers, and the petals. 00:25:05.80\00:25:09.34 And when you go to your cemetery, 00:25:09.37\00:25:11.04 you see it all. 00:25:11.07\00:25:13.04 It's very hard to be an atheist 00:25:13.07\00:25:14.81 and say there is no God when you see all this, 00:25:14.84\00:25:18.25 and there is more good than evil in the world. 00:25:18.28\00:25:21.48 Did you hear what I said? 00:25:21.52\00:25:23.35 Sometimes we see the terrible things 00:25:23.39\00:25:25.39 that are happening in the world. 00:25:25.42\00:25:27.32 We see the chaos of Washington. 00:25:27.36\00:25:30.69 We see some bad things in the church 00:25:30.73\00:25:33.56 and we say, "Where is God?" 00:25:33.60\00:25:37.60 But there is more good than evil in the world, 00:25:37.63\00:25:43.00 but evil is a problem. 00:25:43.04\00:25:45.91 If God is almighty, 00:25:45.94\00:25:48.84 why does He put up with it? 00:25:48.88\00:25:51.65 Now, in the next segment, 00:25:51.68\00:25:55.35 I'm going to answer the question, 00:25:55.38\00:25:57.15 why does a God of love permits suffering, 00:25:57.19\00:26:02.32 but the Bible says, 00:26:02.36\00:26:04.59 "God is love." 00:26:04.63\00:26:06.70 We'll be back in a moment. 00:26:06.73\00:26:08.06 The Word began in a village. 00:26:22.31\00:26:25.71 Churches and schools sprang up and multiplied 00:26:25.75\00:26:30.42 reaching into the city. 00:26:30.45\00:26:33.72 Great truths revealed 00:26:33.76\00:26:35.49 to the people of Papua New Guinea, 00:26:35.52\00:26:38.23 changing thousands of lives. 00:26:38.26\00:26:41.43 Our eyes are going to be opened 00:26:41.46\00:26:44.57 to the discovery of amazing truths. 00:26:44.60\00:26:48.37 The greatest truths in the Bible, 00:26:48.40\00:26:50.21 it is the truth that God loves you. 00:26:50.24\00:26:53.91 It has completed changed my life, 00:26:53.94\00:26:55.88 and I'm going to be baptized this Sabbath. 00:26:55.91\00:26:58.15 Pastor Carter has put something in my heart 00:26:58.18\00:27:00.65 that I will never forget. 00:27:00.68\00:27:02.02 Thank you, Pastor Carter, for your program, 00:27:02.05\00:27:04.05 it has changed my life completely. 00:27:04.09\00:27:06.25 John Carter's Great Truths Revealed 00:27:06.29\00:27:08.32 was recorded live from Papua New Guinea. 00:27:08.36\00:27:10.66 Experience the miracles 00:27:10.69\00:27:12.26 in this 21-DVD series for a gift of a $150 US 00:27:12.29\00:27:16.13 or $210 Australian. 00:27:16.16\00:27:18.43 To order, visit our website or call. 00:27:18.47\00:27:20.90 1.3 billion people live in India. 00:27:24.34\00:27:27.74 Two hundred million of these are Dalits. 00:27:34.98\00:27:38.62 Dalits formerly called untouchables 00:27:38.65\00:27:41.99 are the lowest members of the caste system. 00:27:42.02\00:27:45.69 One hundred percent of your gift 00:27:45.73\00:27:47.90 will go to fund projects for Dalit girls 00:27:47.93\00:27:50.97 as an alternative to slavery and prostitution. 00:27:51.00\00:27:54.97 Your gift of $600 will educate, clothe, 00:27:55.00\00:27:58.47 and feed one Dalit girl between 5 and 15 years of age 00:27:58.51\00:28:03.75 for one year. 00:28:03.78\00:28:05.11 Go to Cartereport.org or to the address on the screen 00:28:07.98\00:28:11.45 to send your gift of $600 00:28:11.49\00:28:14.59 and change the life of one Indian Dalit girl 00:28:14.62\00:28:18.16 for one full year. 00:28:18.19\00:28:19.79 For a copy of today's program, 00:28:26.07\00:28:28.00 please contact us at P.O.
