It has been called the greatest document 00:00:03.13\00:00:04.97 in the history of humanity. 00:00:05.00\00:00:06.77 Whenever and wherever people have studied 00:00:06.80\00:00:09.07 and accepted its teachings 00:00:09.10\00:00:10.91 they have discovered hope, 00:00:10.94\00:00:13.44 life, peace, 00:00:13.48\00:00:19.25 prosperity and deliverance from tyranny. 00:00:19.28\00:00:24.05 Welcome to Romans. 00:00:25.39\00:00:27.86 Today we're studying the Book of Romans, 00:00:31.93\00:00:34.13 the greatest masterpiece 00:00:34.16\00:00:36.23 that the human mind has ever conceived or realized. 00:00:36.26\00:00:39.23 Let me say this. 00:00:39.27\00:00:41.80 It's impossible to understand this book 00:00:41.84\00:00:47.28 without an enlightenment by the Holy Spirit. 00:00:47.31\00:00:51.38 Now that's sort of a throwaway phrase and you say, 00:00:51.41\00:00:54.05 "Well, you know, is that really true?" 00:00:54.08\00:00:56.62 More than a thousand million people 00:00:56.65\00:01:01.16 in the greatest church in the world 00:01:01.19\00:01:04.23 have got it wrong. 00:01:04.26\00:01:06.29 The greatest brains in the religious world, 00:01:06.33\00:01:08.60 some of the greatest brains 00:01:08.63\00:01:11.30 from the Council of Trent, they got it wrong. 00:01:11.33\00:01:15.94 And millions and millions of people 00:01:15.97\00:01:18.44 get it wrong. 00:01:18.47\00:01:19.81 Now this is pretty, pretty scary stuff 00:01:22.18\00:01:24.65 because you've got to, 00:01:24.68\00:01:26.95 you've got to have a revelation from God. 00:01:26.98\00:01:30.22 People say well, "Hasn't happened to me." 00:01:30.25\00:01:32.42 Well, it can happen to you, it can happen to you, 00:01:32.45\00:01:35.32 it happened to me. 00:01:35.36\00:01:36.73 I've seen it happen to large numbers of people 00:01:36.76\00:01:39.43 and I've seen lots and lots of people, 00:01:39.46\00:01:41.10 super religious people sit there 00:01:41.13\00:01:43.33 as hardened as they could be, they don't get it. 00:01:43.37\00:01:46.84 But the gospel is not about my performance. 00:01:49.37\00:01:54.61 It's not about my attainment, it's not about my works, 00:01:54.64\00:02:00.88 it is about God, what God has done for me. 00:02:00.92\00:02:04.65 Now in the first section we discovered that 00:02:04.69\00:02:07.42 it's all by grace. 00:02:07.46\00:02:09.32 And the justification is a declaration 00:02:09.36\00:02:11.83 that I'm a sinner, 00:02:11.86\00:02:15.30 I'm declared righteous, I come into a new standing with God. 00:02:15.33\00:02:19.97 Not because of my personal piety on my works 00:02:20.00\00:02:23.91 but because of the grace of God. 00:02:23.94\00:02:26.57 Now we pick up with Romans 6. 00:02:26.61\00:02:30.35 And this answers the question 00:02:30.38\00:02:31.85 because I'm saved by the grace of God 00:02:31.88\00:02:34.65 purely through faith 00:02:34.68\00:02:36.79 shall we continue the rebellion. 00:02:36.82\00:02:39.99 Roman 6:1, 2, "What shall we say then?" 00:02:40.02\00:02:43.83 Because we are saved without our works, 00:02:43.86\00:02:46.86 because we are saved by grace. 00:02:46.90\00:02:49.13 "Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 00:02:49.16\00:02:52.93 Certainly not! 00:02:52.97\00:02:54.44 How shall we who died to sin 00:02:54.47\00:02:57.27 live any longer in it?" 00:02:57.31\00:03:01.64 Paul now deals with this great theological problem. 00:03:01.68\00:03:05.51 I'm saved without my works, 00:03:05.55\00:03:10.49 I'm saved without any human merit. 00:03:10.52\00:03:13.79 Then can I just go on 00:03:13.82\00:03:15.39 and continue to break the law of God 00:03:15.42\00:03:18.19 and who fornicates and adulterate. 00:03:18.23\00:03:22.60 That's the question. 00:03:22.63\00:03:23.97 This book is put together like a lawyer's brief. 00:03:24.00\00:03:26.97 The greatest masterpiece. 00:03:27.00\00:03:30.41 Now this is an amazing truth 00:03:30.44\00:03:32.87 and not one in my humble opinion, 00:03:32.91\00:03:34.68 in my experience, 00:03:34.71\00:03:36.04 not one in a thousand understands. 00:03:36.08\00:03:39.18 Here it is. 00:03:39.21\00:03:41.45 Legally when Christ died, I died. 00:03:41.48\00:03:45.29 Now look at Romans 6:5, 6, 00:03:47.69\00:03:50.43 "For if we have been united together 00:03:50.46\00:03:53.46 in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be 00:03:53.50\00:03:58.10 in the likeness of His resurrection, 00:03:58.13\00:04:00.50 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, 00:04:00.54\00:04:05.61 that the body of sin might be done away with, 00:04:05.64\00:04:08.28 that we should no longer be slaves of sin." 00:04:08.31\00:04:12.48 It says, I was crucified with Christ. 00:04:12.51\00:04:16.89 What does it mean? 00:04:16.92\00:04:18.55 Many of us don't get this. 00:04:18.59\00:04:19.92 2 Corinthians 5:14 00:04:19.95\00:04:22.76 helps us to understand it. 00:04:22.79\00:04:24.89 "For the love of Christ compels us, 00:04:24.93\00:04:27.03 because we judge thus, 00:04:27.06\00:04:30.87 that if One died for all," what does it say? 00:04:30.90\00:04:35.17 "All died." 00:04:35.20\00:04:37.51 Hey. 00:04:37.54\00:04:39.54 Have you thought about this? 00:04:39.57\00:04:40.91 If one died for all, 00:04:40.94\00:04:44.58 then all died in Christ. 00:04:44.61\00:04:49.22 In Christ, I hung on the cross. 00:04:49.25\00:04:53.69 I paid in Christ the penalty for my sin. 00:04:53.72\00:04:58.26 And people say no, no, no, that's, you can't say that. 00:05:01.70\00:05:04.43 Well, that's exactly what the Bible is saying. 00:05:04.47\00:05:08.57 If one died for all, then all died. 00:05:08.60\00:05:13.17 In Christ, my old self is legally dead. 00:05:13.21\00:05:18.98 Romans 6:11, 12, Romans 6:11, 12. 00:05:19.01\00:05:23.55 "Likewise you also, reckon," look at this word, 00:05:23.59\00:05:26.86 "reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, 00:05:26.89\00:05:29.89 but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. 00:05:29.92\00:05:33.33 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, 00:05:33.36\00:05:37.37 that you should obey it in its lusts." 00:05:37.40\00:05:39.83 Because legally you died with Christ on the cross 00:05:39.87\00:05:44.44 because this happened to you legally. 00:05:44.47\00:05:47.98 Now experience it. 00:05:48.01\00:05:53.42 Reckon yourself to be dead under sin, 00:05:53.45\00:05:57.12 what Christ, 00:05:57.15\00:05:58.49 what happened to you on Christ's cross 00:05:58.52\00:06:00.66 now translate that into your experience. 00:06:00.69\00:06:05.13 What happens when I accept Christ 00:06:07.76\00:06:09.90 and the true gospel? 00:06:09.93\00:06:12.97 The Holy Spirit comes into my life. 00:06:13.00\00:06:16.20 At the same time as justification 00:06:16.24\00:06:18.31 regeneration occurs, 00:06:18.34\00:06:20.88 I become dead to the old way of sin. 00:06:20.91\00:06:25.28 I become dead to hate, envy, lying, stealing, fornicating, 00:06:25.31\00:06:31.42 selfish ambition, pride which is the worst of sins, 00:06:31.45\00:06:35.26 the sin of the church, the sin of Christians, 00:06:35.29\00:06:38.06 pride, greed, lust, anger, drunkardness. 00:06:38.09\00:06:44.00 And if a person comes fully to Christ, 00:06:44.03\00:06:48.14 he comes as a penitent 00:06:48.17\00:06:51.17 and the Spirit of God comes into his life. 00:06:51.21\00:06:55.84 And there comes a death to sin. 00:06:55.88\00:06:59.51 And so sour people become sweet. 00:07:05.19\00:07:09.22 Pharisees, this is the greatest of all miracles. 00:07:09.26\00:07:12.99 Pharisees become nice. 00:07:13.03\00:07:17.03 Sergi came to my meetings in Russia, 00:07:20.87\00:07:24.31 he was a mafia man, 00:07:24.34\00:07:26.41 one of the leaders of the mafia, 00:07:26.44\00:07:28.94 he came to me, he heard the gospel. 00:07:28.98\00:07:32.58 He discovered that Christ had died for him 00:07:32.61\00:07:34.85 and legally he died on the cross. 00:07:34.88\00:07:37.45 Listen, the law cannot judge and condemn a dead man. 00:07:37.49\00:07:43.06 Go away and think about that. 00:07:43.09\00:07:44.76 The law cannot condemn me if I'm dead, 00:07:44.79\00:07:49.83 through Christ I'm a dead man, you see. 00:07:49.86\00:07:54.90 They threatened his life. 00:07:54.94\00:07:57.31 Sergi said you can take my life but you can't take Christ. 00:07:57.34\00:08:01.64 This Ilder, close friend of mine, 00:08:01.68\00:08:04.88 he was the head of the Russian mafia, 00:08:04.91\00:08:08.85 this guy, we blocked out his face, 00:08:08.88\00:08:11.72 can't let it be seen on television. 00:08:11.75\00:08:14.19 Had an army of 400 mafia soldiers 00:08:14.22\00:08:18.96 armed to the teeth with machine gun, everything. 00:08:18.99\00:08:24.27 People tell me, oh, you're just an old guy now 00:08:24.30\00:08:28.60 and you really haven't kept up with them, 00:08:28.64\00:08:30.14 what do you... 00:08:30.17\00:08:31.51 Well, listen, I've seen a lot of things, I still do. 00:08:31.54\00:08:34.48 That's why I believe in evangelism. 00:08:34.51\00:08:36.41 The reason we don't do evangelism 00:08:36.44\00:08:38.45 is because we're not keeping the faith, 00:08:38.48\00:08:41.62 that's the reason. 00:08:41.65\00:08:42.98 Why don't you do public? 00:08:43.02\00:08:44.35 Oh, public evangelism doesn't work 00:08:44.39\00:08:45.72 'cause it doesn't work, if you don't do it, 00:08:45.75\00:08:47.36 of course it doesn't work. 00:08:47.39\00:08:49.46 Of course, it doesn't. 00:08:49.49\00:08:50.83 God has never blessed an evangelistic campaign 00:08:50.86\00:08:54.13 that was never run. 00:08:54.16\00:08:55.96 And I hear these people say, "Oh, but it doesn't work." 00:08:56.00\00:08:58.83 "Oh, don't cry on my shoulder, grow up. 00:08:58.87\00:09:03.17 Get the Spirit of God inside you." 00:09:03.20\00:09:05.74 Become a soldier, not a wimp. 00:09:05.77\00:09:10.05 So this man came, 00:09:10.08\00:09:12.41 every time I go to Russia he comes to see me, 00:09:12.45\00:09:15.45 I wouldn't mess with him. 00:09:15.48\00:09:17.82 But he is now a born again Christian. 00:09:17.85\00:09:22.62 We become new, listen to this word, 00:09:22.66\00:09:25.43 we become new and nice. 00:09:25.46\00:09:29.83 Gone is the bitter fault finding tongue. 00:09:29.86\00:09:33.84 You go to churches where people are full of gore. 00:09:33.87\00:09:37.94 Have you been to churches like that, 00:09:37.97\00:09:39.54 full of gore, they're bitter, 00:09:39.57\00:09:41.61 carrying grudges, 00:09:41.64\00:09:43.75 a poison of asp is under their tongues, 00:09:43.78\00:09:48.18 the Bible says. 00:09:48.22\00:09:50.02 They fill up with religion but they are not Christians. 00:09:50.05\00:09:54.56 It's a bit hard, don't get me stirred up. 00:09:54.59\00:09:56.83 When I come to Christ is a big change. 00:10:00.96\00:10:06.23 Gone is a self righteous attitude. 00:10:06.27\00:10:08.27 Gone is the will for breaking of God's law. 00:10:08.30\00:10:11.41 In our first year in the ministry, 00:10:14.74\00:10:16.21 Beverley and I, many years ago 00:10:16.24\00:10:17.71 were sent to the outback of Australia 00:10:17.75\00:10:19.28 to a town by the name of Broken Hill. 00:10:19.31\00:10:22.12 We all ran with the senior pastor, 00:10:22.15\00:10:24.25 Pastor Todnuf, we ran an evangelistic campaign. 00:10:24.29\00:10:27.16 Oh, Mr. Pride came to the meetings, 00:10:27.19\00:10:29.19 pride by name, pride by nature, 00:10:29.22\00:10:34.76 hated Christianity, hated the church. 00:10:34.80\00:10:37.97 He was 83 and planning to get a divorce. 00:10:38.00\00:10:41.24 I told him, brother, forget it. 00:10:41.27\00:10:42.67 When he heard this truth, 00:10:46.47\00:10:51.05 he became the most loving and the most lovable Christian. 00:10:51.08\00:10:55.65 Transformed by grace, divine. 00:10:55.68\00:10:59.45 Then you come to Romans 7. 00:11:02.62\00:11:05.16 And Romans 7 could be summed up in these words, 00:11:05.19\00:11:09.20 perfect and imperfect. 00:11:09.23\00:11:11.40 Pray that God will help you to understand this. 00:11:11.43\00:11:14.20 I know people will listen to this 00:11:14.24\00:11:15.80 and they will say, "I can't believe this." 00:11:15.84\00:11:17.27 This is because you're not reading the Bible. 00:11:17.31\00:11:20.04 That's because you're so blinded by churchliness 00:11:20.08\00:11:22.91 and tradition, read the texts. 00:11:22.94\00:11:27.18 Romans 7, perfect and imperfect. 00:11:27.22\00:11:29.62 Romans 7:4. 00:11:29.65\00:11:32.19 Romans 7, "Therefore, my brethren, 00:11:32.22\00:11:34.52 you also have become dead to the law." 00:11:34.56\00:11:37.19 The law doesn't die. 00:11:37.23\00:11:38.73 "Through the body of Christ, 00:11:38.76\00:11:40.13 that you may be married to one another, 00:11:40.16\00:11:42.46 to Him who was raised from the dead, 00:11:42.50\00:11:44.90 then we should bear fruit to God." 00:11:44.93\00:11:46.63 The law doesn't die. 00:11:46.67\00:11:48.17 The sinner dies in Christ, on the cross, 00:11:50.94\00:11:55.64 and the law cannot condemn a dead man. 00:11:55.68\00:12:02.35 I'm no longer married to sin but to Christ. 00:12:02.38\00:12:07.22 And this is going to tell you something 00:12:07.26\00:12:08.69 that many folks don't get 00:12:08.72\00:12:11.63 because their religion is just a lot of hype and emotion, 00:12:11.66\00:12:15.46 not based on good Bible study. 00:12:15.50\00:12:19.83 There is a conflict between two natures 00:12:19.87\00:12:24.11 in the born again believer who's justified. 00:12:24.14\00:12:26.47 Romans 7:12, 13. 00:12:26.51\00:12:29.54 Romans 7, "Therefore the law is holy..." 00:12:29.58\00:12:33.55 This is a Christian talking, this is not a nonbeliever. 00:12:33.58\00:12:37.49 "And the commandment: holy and just and good." 00:12:37.52\00:12:39.82 People say, "No, this person got to be a bad person." 00:12:39.85\00:12:43.29 "Has then what is good become death to me? 00:12:43.32\00:12:46.39 Certainly not! 00:12:46.43\00:12:47.76 But sin, that it might appear sin, 00:12:47.80\00:12:50.53 was producing death in me through what is good, 00:12:50.57\00:12:53.60 so that sins through the commandment 00:12:53.64\00:12:55.67 might become exceedingly sinful." 00:12:55.70\00:12:59.54 Here is a man who gets very, very close to God 00:12:59.57\00:13:04.68 and he says, 00:13:04.71\00:13:06.51 "We know that the law is holy but I'm not a good person. 00:13:06.55\00:13:12.95 I'm slipping, I'm falling. 00:13:12.99\00:13:16.56 And those of you who still read your Bibles 00:13:16.59\00:13:18.39 and still think, 00:13:18.43\00:13:19.76 let me give you a little insight. 00:13:19.79\00:13:22.40 This chapter is in the context of sanctification. 00:13:22.43\00:13:26.47 Number one, little bit of Bible scholarship 00:13:26.50\00:13:29.97 doesn't hurt. 00:13:30.01\00:13:31.34 It's in the context to sanctification. 00:13:31.37\00:13:33.98 It's not talking about Paul before he was born again 00:13:34.01\00:13:37.28 but Paul after he's born again. 00:13:37.31\00:13:40.62 Who disagrees with me? 00:13:40.65\00:13:43.12 The Jesuits. 00:13:43.15\00:13:45.59 Because the Jesuit said, 00:13:45.62\00:13:47.09 "This could not be a born again man" 00:13:47.12\00:13:50.73 because we've got to become sinless 00:13:50.76\00:13:52.99 before which we're saved. 00:13:53.03\00:13:56.40 And most people don't know this stuff 00:13:56.43\00:13:57.77 that you're hearing today. 00:13:57.80\00:13:59.50 And that's why they're struggling and falling, 00:13:59.53\00:14:02.80 and they're bitter and they're critical, 00:14:02.84\00:14:05.64 and not very nice. 00:14:05.67\00:14:07.98 But the closer Paul comes to Christ, 00:14:08.01\00:14:10.31 the more sinful he appears in his own eyes, 00:14:10.35\00:14:14.08 and I say to the Adventists watching, 00:14:14.12\00:14:16.58 go on and read Acts of the Apostles, 00:14:16.62\00:14:18.49 that's what Ellen White taught. 00:14:18.52\00:14:21.62 She said this was the experience of Paul 00:14:21.66\00:14:24.33 who was born again, 00:14:24.36\00:14:25.69 who was coming closer to Christ. 00:14:25.73\00:14:27.40 When you get closer to Christ, 00:14:27.43\00:14:28.90 you won't start to think you're better, 00:14:28.93\00:14:30.77 you'll start to think you're worse. 00:14:30.80\00:14:33.37 Now I'm going to give you a statement 00:14:33.40\00:14:35.00 from Martin Luther. 00:14:35.04\00:14:37.64 Luther said, "A Christian is always a sinner, 00:14:37.67\00:14:42.24 always a penitent, 00:14:42.28\00:14:44.95 always right with God." 00:14:44.98\00:14:46.88 There are many of my friends who say I can't believe that, 00:14:46.92\00:14:50.85 this is another terrible heresy Luther, 00:14:50.89\00:14:54.02 "A Christian is always a sinner, 00:14:54.06\00:14:55.96 always a penitent, always right with the God." 00:14:55.99\00:14:58.19 No. Don't believe that. 00:14:58.23\00:15:01.06 This is condoning evil. 00:15:01.10\00:15:04.00 Now this is confronting reality. 00:15:04.03\00:15:07.00 Because every sinner, every Christian I know 00:15:07.04\00:15:11.57 is a sinner, 00:15:11.61\00:15:12.97 you don't know that, ask your spouse, 00:15:13.01\00:15:16.85 ask your children, ask your friends. 00:15:16.88\00:15:21.85 We are continually, it says in Romans 3, 00:15:21.88\00:15:25.05 we continue to fall short of the glory of God. 00:15:25.09\00:15:28.49 Now Luther and Paul are not talking 00:15:28.52\00:15:34.00 about people going out and committing adultery, 00:15:34.03\00:15:36.56 and fornicating, and lying, and Sabbath breaking. 00:15:36.60\00:15:42.44 But what Luther is talking about is this. 00:15:42.47\00:15:46.31 As we come closer to God, 00:15:46.34\00:15:48.58 we know that we're wretched sinners. 00:15:48.61\00:15:54.08 I'm not, you say, well that's because you don't see yourself 00:15:54.12\00:15:58.12 as God does. 00:15:58.15\00:16:00.42 A Christian is always a sinner, always a penitent. 00:16:00.46\00:16:03.69 What's a penitent? 00:16:03.73\00:16:05.06 Lord, I'm sorry, I did this, I shouldn't have done this. 00:16:05.09\00:16:08.40 I was critical of so and so. What a big mouth I am. 00:16:08.43\00:16:12.17 Lord, save me from my mouth. 00:16:12.20\00:16:15.27 He's a penitent. 00:16:15.30\00:16:17.21 He's always sorry 00:16:17.24\00:16:21.68 and he's always right with God. 00:16:21.71\00:16:23.78 Listen to this. 00:16:23.81\00:16:26.72 Happy the home 00:16:26.75\00:16:30.35 where the parents are penitents, 00:16:30.39\00:16:34.22 happy the church 00:16:34.26\00:16:35.59 where the church members are penitents. 00:16:35.62\00:16:37.93 I would not want to belong to a church 00:16:37.96\00:16:40.96 where the people think they are perfect, 00:16:41.00\00:16:45.93 and they're sinless. 00:16:45.97\00:16:48.14 Oh, what a miserable bunch of Pharisees. 00:16:48.17\00:16:53.54 But where people are saying, brother, I'm not doing so good, 00:16:53.58\00:16:59.71 please forgive me. 00:16:59.75\00:17:02.35 That's getting close to paradise. 00:17:02.38\00:17:04.59 You know who disagreed with this? 00:17:04.62\00:17:05.95 The Council of Trent that was run by the Jesuits. 00:17:08.62\00:17:12.06 Luther was greatly opposed by the Jesuits 00:17:14.73\00:17:16.97 and the Council of Trent who were perfectionists. 00:17:17.00\00:17:21.67 And that is why our Roman Catholic friends 00:17:21.70\00:17:26.27 have purgatory. 00:17:26.31\00:17:30.91 It's not just a tool to collect money, 00:17:30.95\00:17:34.35 it is a redemptive act of God, you know why? 00:17:34.38\00:17:38.02 No one is perfect when he dies in himself. 00:17:41.02\00:17:44.73 Therefore the Catholic Church 00:17:44.76\00:17:46.19 came up with this theological necessity 00:17:46.23\00:17:49.50 that you've got to go to purgatory 00:17:49.53\00:17:51.53 for millions of years, you know why? 00:17:51.57\00:17:54.07 So the sin is burned out of you 00:17:54.10\00:17:56.71 because justification is a process 00:17:56.74\00:18:00.84 and in purgatory justification continues 00:18:00.88\00:18:04.71 until the person is good enough to see the face of God. 00:18:04.75\00:18:09.45 That's why Mother Teresa was suicidal. 00:18:09.48\00:18:13.66 And that's why that young man took his life 00:18:13.69\00:18:17.19 'cause he's been taught this garbage. 00:18:17.23\00:18:18.86 This is the sword that slays the dragon 00:18:21.33\00:18:23.57 of self righteousness. 00:18:23.60\00:18:26.37 People become new 00:18:26.40\00:18:30.34 and nice. 00:18:30.37\00:18:32.84 Oh. 00:18:32.87\00:18:34.28 Easy to live with. 00:18:34.31\00:18:37.15 Good to belong to such a church. 00:18:37.18\00:18:40.15 There's no greater vice than self righteousness, 00:18:40.18\00:18:43.22 the Pharisees murdered Christ. 00:18:43.25\00:18:46.65 You want to be like them? 00:18:46.69\00:18:49.49 Romans 7 says, 00:18:49.52\00:18:51.26 "We are imperfect in ourselves but we are perfect in Christ, 00:18:51.29\00:18:55.76 and the law cannot condemn a dead man." 00:18:55.80\00:18:59.47 Hallelujah. You see. 00:18:59.50\00:19:01.70 So read it and think about it, don't be lazy. 00:19:04.81\00:19:09.21 I've had so many people say to me, oh, I believe... 00:19:09.24\00:19:11.45 Look, I really don't care what you believe. 00:19:11.48\00:19:13.45 People say, but I think, I don't care what you think. 00:19:13.48\00:19:16.89 I don't. I want to go by the Bible. 00:19:16.92\00:19:21.09 I don't want people coming in and say, 00:19:21.12\00:19:22.46 "But I have a feeling." 00:19:22.49\00:19:23.83 No, I don't go by my feelings, I go by it is written. 00:19:27.00\00:19:31.03 Amen. You see. 00:19:31.07\00:19:32.83 And so should you. 00:19:32.87\00:19:34.37 We're not saved by our feelings, 00:19:34.40\00:19:36.60 then you come to Romans 8. 00:19:36.64\00:19:39.27 And Romans 8 says, in spite of everything, 00:19:39.31\00:19:42.78 we are not condemned. 00:19:42.81\00:19:44.68 Goodness me, talk about grace. 00:19:44.71\00:19:46.28 There is therefore now no condemnation 00:19:48.72\00:19:51.95 to those who are in Christ Jesus. 00:19:51.99\00:19:55.69 Then it describes them. 00:19:55.72\00:19:57.06 "Who do not walk according to the flesh 00:19:57.09\00:19:59.19 but according to the spirit. 00:19:59.23\00:20:01.26 Even though I am imperfect in Christ, 00:20:01.30\00:20:04.87 I'm not condemned." 00:20:04.90\00:20:06.27 You can condemn me but God doesn't. 00:20:06.30\00:20:09.30 Then Romans 8:7-9. 00:20:09.34\00:20:12.87 These are tremendous chapters 00:20:12.91\00:20:15.64 "Because the carnal mind is enmity against God, 00:20:15.68\00:20:19.11 for it is not subject to the law of God." 00:20:19.15\00:20:21.18 So the law of God is not abolished, is it? 00:20:21.22\00:20:23.65 "Nor indeed can be. 00:20:23.69\00:20:25.02 So then, those are in the flesh cannot please God." 00:20:25.05\00:20:30.16 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, 00:20:30.19\00:20:32.89 if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. 00:20:32.93\00:20:37.03 "Now if anyone," oh, this is a terrible text, 00:20:37.07\00:20:39.50 "if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, 00:20:39.53\00:20:43.10 he is none of His." 00:20:43.14\00:20:45.44 You can talk religion until the cows come home. 00:20:45.47\00:20:49.41 But if you don't have the Spirit of Christ, 00:20:49.44\00:20:52.51 you don't belong to Him. 00:20:52.55\00:20:55.28 This talks about the carnal nature 00:20:55.32\00:21:02.22 that must be put to death. 00:21:02.26\00:21:05.86 We should ask the question, what do we feed on. 00:21:05.89\00:21:09.76 What sort of television, the movies, the video games, 00:21:09.80\00:21:12.63 the porn that feeds the carnal nature. 00:21:12.67\00:21:17.54 This is why America that was raised up by God 00:21:17.57\00:21:19.94 is going down 00:21:19.97\00:21:23.21 because America today and the churches 00:21:23.24\00:21:25.31 are feeding on filth and they can't think straight, 00:21:25.35\00:21:30.39 can't think straight. 00:21:30.42\00:21:31.75 You think they're reading their Bibles? 00:21:31.79\00:21:33.49 No. Don't think so. 00:21:33.52\00:21:34.89 Remember whatever gets your attention gets you. 00:21:34.92\00:21:39.26 If porn gets your attention, it will get you. 00:21:39.29\00:21:42.43 If Christ gets your attention, Christ will get you. 00:21:42.46\00:21:46.00 Whatever gets your attention gets you. 00:21:46.03\00:21:49.30 But here is the consummation, 00:21:49.34\00:21:52.57 I think the high point of all scripture. 00:21:52.61\00:21:56.14 "In spite of persecution, sufferings, inner conflicts, 00:21:56.18\00:22:00.18 down days," which I have "up days," which I have 00:22:00.22\00:22:04.62 "and every distress, nothing can defeat us." 00:22:04.65\00:22:10.03 This is the high point of scripture. 00:22:10.06\00:22:11.43 Romans 8:3. 00:22:11.46\00:22:15.33 "What then shall we say to these things? 00:22:15.36\00:22:18.93 If God is for us, who can be against us?" 00:22:18.97\00:22:23.10 Thirty five. 00:22:23.14\00:22:25.11 Verse 35, "Who shall separate us 00:22:25.14\00:22:27.91 from the love of Christ? 00:22:27.94\00:22:30.45 Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, 00:22:30.48\00:22:34.42 or nakedness, or peril, or sword?" 00:22:34.45\00:22:37.29 Nothing. Because Christ died for me. 00:22:37.32\00:22:41.49 Then the next verse, I think it's 37. 00:22:41.52\00:22:44.96 "Yet in all these things," 00:22:44.99\00:22:48.70 the good things and the bad things, 00:22:48.73\00:22:51.53 the ups and the downs, 00:22:51.57\00:22:55.04 the vicissitudes of life that disloyalty of friends. 00:22:55.07\00:23:01.38 "Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors 00:23:01.41\00:23:04.85 through Him who loved us." 00:23:04.88\00:23:07.45 Can't get beaten. 00:23:07.48\00:23:08.88 Verse 38, and then 39. 00:23:08.92\00:23:11.99 This is the high point of all scripture now. 00:23:12.02\00:23:14.99 "For I am persuaded 00:23:15.02\00:23:18.39 that neither death nor life, 00:23:18.43\00:23:23.37 nor angels, nor principalities 00:23:23.40\00:23:27.94 nor powers, nor things present 00:23:27.97\00:23:32.44 nor things to come, nor height nor depth, 00:23:32.47\00:23:38.25 nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us 00:23:38.28\00:23:43.02 from the love of God 00:23:43.05\00:23:44.82 which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." 00:23:44.85\00:23:48.36 Hallelujah. 00:23:48.39\00:23:49.72 And so these chapters some would say 00:23:53.76\00:24:00.04 are the greatest writings in the history of humanity, 00:24:00.07\00:24:04.01 that's why most people 00:24:04.04\00:24:05.37 because they're so brain destroyed, 00:24:05.41\00:24:10.88 no longer read them. 00:24:10.91\00:24:12.75 They are good at telling you what to do... 00:24:12.78\00:24:14.92 But this book shows the sinful state of man. 00:24:18.32\00:24:25.26 Romans 1, the Gentiles lost. 00:24:25.29\00:24:29.16 Romans 2, the religious world lost. 00:24:29.20\00:24:31.83 Romans 3, all lost. 00:24:31.87\00:24:34.87 No hope, except God in Christ becomes the... 00:24:34.90\00:24:41.78 Not just the expiation, the propitiation. 00:24:41.81\00:24:44.88 The wrath of God that is described in Romans 1. 00:24:44.91\00:24:49.95 And in Romans 2, it's laid upon Him 00:24:49.98\00:24:51.85 as He hangs on the cross. 00:24:51.89\00:24:55.32 It's almost too hard to believe. 00:24:55.36\00:24:56.76 And what must I do? 00:25:00.50\00:25:02.53 Come as a penitent, nothing in my hand 00:25:02.56\00:25:06.23 I bring simply to Thy cross I cling. 00:25:06.27\00:25:11.47 You've got to have a revelation 00:25:11.51\00:25:14.11 going to church for a million years 00:25:14.14\00:25:15.74 for most people will not give them the revelation, 00:25:15.78\00:25:19.21 you can get here today. 00:25:19.25\00:25:20.85 People watching this on television, 00:25:20.88\00:25:22.25 by the grace of God you can get it, 00:25:22.28\00:25:24.42 but it's going to take 00:25:24.45\00:25:25.82 a supernatural endowment of grace. 00:25:25.85\00:25:29.82 And we see it, and we see ourselves. 00:25:29.86\00:25:32.69 I'm a stinking sinner. 00:25:32.73\00:25:34.06 I'm a great sinner. 00:25:36.67\00:25:38.50 As John Newton said two great truths, 00:25:38.53\00:25:40.34 he said, said I'm an old man, I remembered only two truths. 00:25:40.37\00:25:45.64 I am a great sinner, but Christ is a great savior. 00:25:45.67\00:25:52.28 Amen. 00:25:52.31\00:25:53.65 Therefore nothing in all creation 00:25:53.68\00:25:58.35 can separate us from the love of God. 00:25:58.39\00:26:02.09 In the name of the Father and of the Son 00:26:02.12\00:26:05.66 and of the Holy Spirit. 00:26:05.69\00:26:08.93 Amen. 00:26:08.96\00:26:10.50 Amen. And amen. 00:26:10.53\00:26:12.37 Hallelujah. Hallelujah. 00:26:12.40\00:26:15.10 Jesus said, "All authority has been given to Me 00:26:20.61\00:26:23.65 in heaven and on earth. 00:26:23.68\00:26:26.11 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, 00:26:26.15\00:26:30.49 baptizing them in the name of the Father 00:26:30.52\00:26:32.95 and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." 00:26:32.99\00:26:35.69 John Carter reports, we have seen God's power 00:26:38.29\00:26:41.66 as the Gospel of Christ has been proclaimed in Africa, 00:26:41.70\00:26:47.07 India, 00:26:47.10\00:26:49.67 Russia, 00:26:49.70\00:26:52.17 Ukraine, 00:26:52.21\00:26:55.04 Cuba, 00:26:55.08\00:26:58.08 El Salvador and many other places. 00:26:58.11\00:27:01.75 We invite you to partner with us 00:27:01.78\00:27:04.75 in proclaiming Jesus Christ. 00:27:04.79\00:27:06.62 To God be the glory. 00:27:10.53\00:27:13.63 Great things He has done. 00:27:13.66\00:27:15.30 Write today to the Carter Report. 00:27:18.17\00:27:21.17 P.O.
