00:12:24.67\00:12:27.34 Our light affliction. 00:12:27.38\00:12:29.24 It only last for a moment. 00:12:29.28\00:12:30.91 "It's working for us a far more exceeding 00:12:30.95\00:12:33.31 and eternal weight of glory, 00:12:33.35\00:12:35.02 while we do not look at the things which are seen, 00:12:35.05\00:12:37.49 but of the things which are not seen. 00:12:37.52\00:12:40.06 For the things which are seen are temporary, 00:12:40.09\00:12:43.63 but the things which are not seen," 00:12:43.66\00:12:45.66 what does it say? 00:12:45.69\00:12:47.50 "They're eternal." 00:12:47.53\00:12:49.46 Paul believed there was glory ahead. 00:12:49.50\00:12:53.03 He was driven by a passion to save the lost for Christ. 00:12:53.07\00:12:58.94 If you're a pastor, I'd ask you, 00:12:58.97\00:13:00.31 "Do you have a passion for the lost? 00:13:00.34\00:13:02.94 Or do you have a passion for retirement? 00:13:02.98\00:13:07.18 Thus he endured the beatings and the stonings, 00:13:07.22\00:13:10.09 the hunger and the cold, and maybe some crabby, 00:13:10.12\00:13:15.52 critical, church members. 00:13:15.56\00:13:18.99 He was one of the bravest humans 00:13:19.03\00:13:20.60 who had ever lived. 00:13:20.63\00:13:21.96 He wasn't a crybaby, 00:13:22.00\00:13:23.33 he was one of the bravest soldiers 00:13:23.37\00:13:25.37 who had ever lived. 00:13:25.40\00:13:27.14 Now we talk about his magnum opus 00:13:27.17\00:13:32.07 that I shall discuss more fully next week. 00:13:32.11\00:13:35.78 While working in Corinth, Paul wrote the Book of Romans, 00:13:35.81\00:13:40.95 his magnum opus. 00:13:40.98\00:13:45.02 It was carried, we believe, by Phoebe from Corinth to Rome. 00:13:45.05\00:13:50.69 She, under her robe, 00:13:50.73\00:13:52.06 carried the future of the church, 00:13:52.09\00:13:55.06 and the future of the world. 00:13:55.10\00:13:58.73 Romans was the book that inspired Martin Luther, 00:13:58.77\00:14:01.40 who gave to the world the Protestant Reformation 00:14:01.44\00:14:04.04 that brought about the rise of America. 00:14:04.07\00:14:06.81 No. Yes. 00:14:06.84\00:14:09.81 And the birth of freedom. 00:14:09.84\00:14:11.35 Most of us have forgotten 00:14:14.45\00:14:15.95 what the world was like 00:14:15.98\00:14:18.72 before Luther. 00:14:18.75\00:14:22.09 There was a corrupt, all powerful church. 00:14:22.12\00:14:27.73 No freedom of speech or religion, 00:14:27.76\00:14:30.27 great poverty of the masses, 00:14:30.30\00:14:32.20 then Luther discovered the Book of Romans. 00:14:32.23\00:14:35.40 Have you discovered it? 00:14:35.44\00:14:36.77 Tyndale, the great British reformer 00:14:40.14\00:14:42.34 called it "Good, glad, and merry tidings 00:14:42.38\00:14:46.78 that makes a man's heart to sing for joy, 00:14:46.82\00:14:50.55 and his feet to dance." 00:14:50.59\00:14:52.72 Why are there 00:14:52.75\00:14:54.09 so many sour religionists? 00:14:54.12\00:14:59.69 I'll tell you why. 00:14:59.73\00:15:02.63 They've never had a divine encounter. 00:15:02.66\00:15:05.73 They're in the church to be seen. 00:15:05.77\00:15:08.50 They want to be seen, 00:15:08.54\00:15:10.07 but they don't want to be clean. 00:15:10.11\00:15:12.97 They want to be an elder or somebody else in the charge. 00:15:13.01\00:15:16.51 Good morning, sister. 00:15:16.54\00:15:17.98 Good morning, brother. 00:15:18.01\00:15:19.45 I think the Bible calls 00:15:23.08\00:15:24.42 that the abomination of desolation. 00:15:24.45\00:15:27.96 But when a person discovers the Book of Romans 00:15:27.99\00:15:30.33 or when the Book of Romans discovers a person, 00:15:30.36\00:15:32.89 and that person has a divine revelation, 00:15:32.93\00:15:35.36 his life is changed. 00:15:35.40\00:15:36.73 Now let me tell you about this divine revelation. 00:15:36.77\00:15:39.47 I talked about it 00:15:39.50\00:15:40.84 in the first part of this program. 00:15:40.87\00:15:43.47 Some of you may think you've had it. 00:15:43.51\00:15:47.54 You think because you were born in the church, 00:15:47.58\00:15:50.11 you're baptized in the church 00:15:50.15\00:15:53.42 that you're somehow saved. 00:15:53.45\00:15:56.99 What happens is like Paul, 00:15:59.99\00:16:03.99 and others have a divine revelation. 00:16:04.03\00:16:06.33 They see themselves as a stinking filthy sinner, 00:16:06.36\00:16:09.53 have you? 00:19:27.66\00:19:29.26 The other religion got there. 00:19:29.30\00:19:31.87 You say, "It doesn't matter what you believe." 00:19:31.90\00:19:35.10 Please, please, let's not be ignorant. 00:19:35.14\00:19:39.07 No democracies in the world, no women's rights. 00:19:39.11\00:19:43.68 Women are the freest 00:19:43.71\00:19:45.05 where the gospel is preached, 00:19:45.08\00:19:46.72 it is. 00:19:46.75\00:19:48.58 No freedom of speech, no freedom of religion, 00:19:48.62\00:19:51.25 no separation of church and state, 00:19:51.29\00:19:53.22 no life liberty, 00:19:53.25\00:19:54.86 and the pursuit of happiness. 00:19:54.89\00:19:57.13 Thank you, Paul. 00:19:57.16\00:19:59.33 Now I'm going to start two meetings, 00:19:59.36\00:20:04.00 a synopsis of Romans 00:20:04.03\00:20:08.80 that very, very few people in the church 00:20:08.84\00:20:11.84 know anything about. 00:20:11.87\00:20:14.04 And that's why we have the problems we do. 00:20:17.08\00:20:20.18 Now we come to Paul, Nero, the burning of Rome, 00:20:20.22\00:20:24.92 and decapitation. 00:20:24.95\00:20:27.39 Paul was arrested in Jerusalem. 00:20:27.42\00:20:29.72 It came about this way. 00:20:29.76\00:20:31.96 Because Paul was being criticized 00:20:31.99\00:20:33.90 by the Jews, 00:20:33.93\00:20:35.63 the leaders of the church, good people, 00:20:35.66\00:20:38.17 thought it would help the situation 00:20:38.20\00:20:40.00 if Paul engaged in a Jewish religious ceremony. 00:20:40.04\00:20:45.41 So he did what they said. 00:20:45.44\00:20:48.38 It led to his imprisonment and death. 00:20:48.41\00:20:53.45 While Paul was in the temple 00:20:53.48\00:20:55.08 carrying out the right of Jewish purification, 00:20:55.12\00:20:57.45 he was attacked by a Jewish mob. 00:20:57.49\00:21:00.49 And remember, Paul was a Jew, 00:21:00.52\00:21:02.82 Jesus was a Jew, the Bible writers were Jews. 00:21:02.86\00:21:06.66 Never be anti-Jewish. 00:21:06.70\00:21:08.53 Look at Acts 21:27, 00:21:08.56\00:21:12.97 "Now when the seven days were almost ended, 00:21:13.00\00:21:15.80 the Jews from Asia, seeing him in the temple, 00:21:15.84\00:21:19.54 stirred up the whole crowd, 00:21:19.57\00:21:22.61 laid hands on him." 00:21:22.64\00:21:26.31 And so Paul is pulled this way, and that way, 00:21:26.35\00:21:28.82 and they're going to murder him. 00:21:28.85\00:21:32.05 The Roman soldiers saved Paul, 00:21:32.09\00:21:34.49 and he was delivered from the mob, 00:21:34.52\00:21:36.29 who would have torn him to pieces, 00:21:36.32\00:21:38.09 that's shows you what bigotry, religious bigotry does. 00:21:38.13\00:21:43.43 He was thrown into prison, 00:21:43.47\00:21:44.80 and the Roman stretched him out to flog him, 00:21:44.83\00:21:47.54 stretch him out, going to soften him up. 00:21:47.57\00:21:51.17 Paul says, 00:21:51.21\00:21:53.74 "Is it lawful to flog a Roman citizen?" 00:21:53.78\00:21:55.71 They released him. 00:21:58.88\00:22:00.22 He went through several bogus trials. 00:22:00.25\00:22:03.08 Attempts were made on his life by the Jews. 00:22:03.12\00:22:06.82 Eventually, Paul, as a Roman citizen, said, 00:22:06.86\00:22:09.32 "I appeal to Caesar." 00:22:09.36\00:22:11.79 He was sent by boat to Rome. 00:22:11.83\00:22:14.46 Along the way, ship was shipwrecked 00:22:14.50\00:22:16.16 on the coast of Malta, 00:22:16.20\00:22:17.53 there he was bitten by the snake. 00:22:17.57\00:22:20.54 When he finally arrived in Rome, 00:22:20.57\00:22:22.60 he was placed in prison. 00:22:22.64\00:22:24.44 Eventually, he stood trial before Nero. 00:22:24.47\00:22:27.11 Nero was one of the most evil men 00:22:27.14\00:22:28.81 in the history of the world, born 37, died 68. 00:22:28.84\00:22:32.41 It would have been good if he'd never been born. 00:22:32.45\00:22:35.08 Emperor from 54 to 68, 00:22:35.12\00:22:37.42 best known for his debaucheries, 00:22:37.45\00:22:39.62 his political murders, his passion for music, 00:22:39.65\00:22:42.69 and the persecution of Christians, 00:22:42.72\00:22:44.59 he murdered his own mother in 59 AD. 00:22:44.63\00:22:49.80 And Paul stands strong. 00:22:49.83\00:22:51.67 2 Timothy 4:6, 00:22:51.70\00:22:55.57 13, 16, 17. 00:22:55.60\00:22:57.71 2 Timothy 4:6, he says, 00:22:57.74\00:23:00.41 "I'm already being poured out as a drink offering, 00:23:00.44\00:23:03.38 and the time of my departure is at hand..." 00:23:03.41\00:23:06.92 Then he says, he's cold. 00:23:06.95\00:23:09.02 "Bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas 00:23:09.05\00:23:12.49 when you come and the books, especially the parchments..." 00:23:12.52\00:23:15.06 He said, "Give me my Bible." 00:23:15.09\00:23:18.03 "At my first defense no one stood with me, 00:23:18.06\00:23:20.30 but all forsook me." 00:23:20.33\00:23:21.66 Where were they? 00:23:21.70\00:23:24.43 "May it not be charged against them. 00:23:24.47\00:23:26.57 But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, 00:23:26.60\00:23:29.14 so that the message might be preached 00:23:29.17\00:23:31.47 fully through me, 00:23:31.51\00:23:32.84 and that all the Gentiles might hear. 00:23:32.87\00:23:34.51 Also, I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion." 00:23:34.54\00:23:37.61 When he stood before Nero, 00:23:37.65\00:23:39.25 he preached such a mighty sermon 00:23:39.28\00:23:42.75 that that evil man was overcome 00:23:42.78\00:23:45.92 by the passion of Paul, 00:23:45.95\00:23:48.39 and he released him. 00:23:48.42\00:23:51.63 And some time later, Nero, the monster, 00:23:51.66\00:23:55.96 who's going to burn for a long time. 00:23:56.00\00:23:58.67 "Oh, no, he's not." 00:23:58.70\00:24:00.57 Wait and see. 00:24:00.60\00:24:02.00 Nero to make room for some new buildings 00:24:02.04\00:24:04.81 burned Rome. 00:24:04.84\00:24:07.28 The people were enraged, 00:24:07.31\00:24:08.64 so he blamed Paul and the Christians, 00:24:08.68\00:24:10.78 they did it. 00:24:10.81\00:24:12.35 Paul was rearrested and found guilty. 00:24:12.38\00:24:16.18 He was beheaded alone, alone, 00:24:16.22\00:24:21.22 but it's not over. 00:24:21.26\00:24:23.93 2 Timothy 4:7, 8, 00:24:23.96\00:24:27.03 he writes from the prison in Rome, 00:24:27.06\00:24:30.50 "I fought the good fight, 00:24:30.53\00:24:34.20 I have finished the race, 00:24:34.24\00:24:37.67 I have kept the faith. 00:24:37.71\00:24:40.48 Finally, there is laid up for me 00:24:40.51\00:24:42.31 the crown of righteousness, 00:24:42.34\00:24:43.85 which the Lord, the righteous judge, 00:24:43.88\00:24:46.98 will give me on that day, 00:24:47.02\00:24:48.92 and not to me only but also to all 00:24:48.95\00:24:52.65 who have loved His appearing." 00:24:52.69\00:24:55.42 He says, "By the grace of God 00:24:59.83\00:25:01.96 I've been faithful." 00:25:02.00\00:25:04.47 I haven't apostatized, 00:25:04.50\00:25:05.83 I haven't run away from any battles. 00:25:05.87\00:25:08.47 He said, "I've fought the good fight, 00:25:08.50\00:25:10.34 I finished my course, I've kept the faith." 00:25:10.37\00:25:13.44 Then they take him out. 00:25:16.44\00:25:19.18 Because he's a Roman citizen, he is not crucified 00:25:19.21\00:25:22.25 or anything like that, he is beheaded. 00:25:22.28\00:25:24.59 But one thing is 00:25:28.12\00:25:29.99 absolutely certain, my friend. 00:25:30.03\00:25:34.73 This mighty Jewish man of God, 00:25:34.76\00:25:39.67 who gave us the true gospel in the Book of Romans, 00:25:39.70\00:25:46.01 he will be with Christ in glory. 00:25:46.04\00:25:50.11 He will have the crown of life. 00:25:50.15\00:25:54.72 And I think, I'm right, 00:25:54.75\00:26:00.12 a very special place in the kingdom of God. 00:26:00.16\00:26:05.93 I present to you today, 00:26:05.96\00:26:08.50 the prince of the apostles, 00:26:08.53\00:26:12.53 the great Apostle Paul 00:26:12.57\00:26:14.80 for the glory of God. 00:26:14.84\00:26:17.67 Amen and Amen. 00:26:17.71\00:26:20.18 Jesus said, 00:26:26.98\00:26:28.32 "All authority has been given to Me 00:26:28.35\00:26:30.09 in heaven and on earth. 00:26:30.12\00:26:32.45 Go therefore, 00:26:32.49\00:26:33.82 and make disciples of all the nations. 00:26:33.86\00:26:36.89 Baptizing them in the name of the Father, 00:26:36.93\00:26:39.46 and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. 00:26:39.49\00:26:44.67 John Carter reports, we have seen God's power 00:26:44.70\00:26:48.04 as the gospel of Christ has been proclaimed in Africa, 00:26:48.07\00:26:53.44 India, 00:26:53.48\00:26:56.01 Russia, 00:26:56.04\00:26:58.65 Ukraine, 00:26:58.68\00:27:01.38 Cuba, 00:27:01.42\00:27:04.42 El Salvador, and many other places. 00:27:04.45\00:27:08.12 We invite you to partner with us 00:27:08.16\00:27:11.19 in proclaiming Jesus Christ. 00:27:11.23\00:27:13.29 To God be the glory. 00:27:16.90\00:27:19.90 Great things He has done. 00:27:19.93\00:27:24.51 Write today to the Carter Report, 00:27:24.54\00:27:27.68 P.O.
