The mills of God grind slowly." 00:01:37.13\00:01:42.70 You know the saying? 00:01:42.73\00:01:44.50 "But they grind, how? Exceeding small." 00:01:44.53\00:01:50.31 We are going to talk today about retribution. 00:01:50.34\00:01:54.38 And R stands for Redemption. 00:01:54.41\00:01:59.91 As I said a moment ago, people would've said to me, 00:01:59.95\00:02:03.12 "They can't believe in the doctrine 00:02:03.15\00:02:04.49 of the second chance." 00:02:04.52\00:02:06.89 Well, I believe in the doctrine 00:02:06.92\00:02:08.26 of the second chance and the third chance 00:02:08.29\00:02:10.69 because we will discover that where 00:02:10.73\00:02:12.39 "Sin did abound, grace did," what does it say? 00:02:12.43\00:02:16.56 "Much more abound." 00:02:16.60\00:02:19.50 R also stands 00:02:19.53\00:02:24.17 for Restricted. 00:02:24.21\00:02:26.57 This is a restricted telecast. 00:02:26.61\00:02:30.25 It is restricted to those who don't cringe 00:02:30.28\00:02:33.98 when they hear the truth about real Bible characters. 00:02:34.02\00:02:39.42 The Bible tells it as it is, 00:02:39.45\00:02:41.52 it doesn't gloss over the sins of men and women. 00:02:41.56\00:02:47.06 This, today, is a story of real courage, 00:02:47.10\00:02:53.23 real courage. 00:02:53.27\00:02:54.64 It's also a story of adultery, 00:02:54.67\00:03:00.01 and rape, and incest in the Bible. 00:03:00.04\00:03:05.15 Yes, especially in the Bible. 00:03:05.18\00:03:07.22 Revenge, rebellion, and salvation. 00:03:07.25\00:03:13.25 So we're dealing today with The Game Changers, 00:03:13.29\00:03:15.79 and The Game Changer today is King David, 00:03:15.82\00:03:20.70 Israel's greatest king, 00:03:20.73\00:03:23.26 the most famous king in the Old Testament. 00:03:23.30\00:03:27.97 We're going to go to the Bible and we're going to take a text 00:03:28.00\00:03:30.97 in the New Testament, Acts 13, and you've got Bibles 00:03:31.01\00:03:36.38 in front of you there, 00:03:36.41\00:03:37.91 so turn with me to Acts 00:03:37.95\00:03:40.65 13:22,23. 00:03:40.68\00:03:47.69 "And when He had removed him, that's Saul, 00:03:49.72\00:03:53.80 He raised up for them David as king, 00:03:53.83\00:03:59.23 to whom also He gave testimony and said, 00:03:59.27\00:04:04.91 'I've found David the son of Jesse...'" 00:04:04.94\00:04:07.38 This is quite amazing. 00:04:07.41\00:04:09.14 "A man after My own heart, a man after My own heart, 00:04:09.18\00:04:14.92 who will do all My will. 00:04:14.95\00:04:17.42 From this man's seed, according to the promise, 00:04:17.45\00:04:20.96 God raised up for Israel 00:04:20.99\00:04:23.46 a savior, Jesus." 00:04:23.49\00:04:27.96 Now when you study this, we're going to do today, 00:04:28.00\00:04:31.23 this great Game Changer, this remarkable person, 00:04:31.27\00:04:36.37 it's almost hard to see how he can be a man 00:04:36.40\00:04:40.14 after God's own heart. 00:04:40.18\00:04:43.28 But we will discover that in spite of all the sins, 00:04:43.31\00:04:48.32 the grace of God comes 00:04:48.35\00:04:50.25 through loud and clear. 00:04:50.29\00:04:54.92 A man after God's own heart. 00:04:54.96\00:05:00.03 Now history tells me that 00:05:00.06\00:05:02.26 David started off as a shepherd boy, 00:05:02.30\00:05:05.63 he was looking after his father's sheep. 00:05:05.67\00:05:08.20 He was a strong young man. 00:05:08.24\00:05:10.21 The Bible says, 00:05:10.24\00:05:12.87 this is almost too hard to believe, 00:05:12.91\00:05:14.24 but he killed a lion and a bear. 00:05:14.28\00:05:18.31 There's something I forgot to tell you 00:05:18.35\00:05:20.85 that people come to us and they say, 00:05:20.88\00:05:22.45 Can you believe in these characters? 00:05:22.48\00:05:24.45 Can you believe in characters like King David? 00:05:24.49\00:05:28.42 It's just one mythology." 00:05:28.46\00:05:30.13 But when I was, recently, 00:05:30.16\00:05:33.09 in the Israeli museum in Jerusalem, 00:05:33.13\00:05:37.07 I looked at a remarkable plaque 00:05:37.10\00:05:40.40 on which were the words, King David. 00:05:40.44\00:05:43.41 There it is. It's quite an amazing story. 00:05:43.44\00:05:45.84 We now know that King David was a real, 00:05:45.87\00:05:49.64 historical character. 00:05:49.68\00:05:51.71 The Bible is reliable. 00:05:51.75\00:05:53.78 Now coming back to the time when David was a shepherd boy 00:05:53.82\00:05:57.89 looking after his father's sheep, 00:05:57.92\00:05:59.95 when he killed a lion and a bear. 00:05:59.99\00:06:02.89 If you come over to 1 Samuel 17, 00:06:02.92\00:06:06.73 and we're going to stay in this vicinity today 00:06:06.76\00:06:10.80 in the telecast and I'm glad you joined us, 00:06:10.83\00:06:13.74 Chapter 17:34, 35, 00:06:13.77\00:06:20.11 "But David said to Saul, 00:06:20.14\00:06:22.31 'Your servant used to keep his father's sheep, 00:06:22.34\00:06:25.78 and when a lion or a bear came 00:06:25.81\00:06:27.75 and took a lamb out of the flock, 00:06:27.78\00:06:29.68 I went after it and struck it, 00:06:29.72\00:06:32.82 and delivered the lamb from its mouth, 00:06:32.85\00:06:35.76 and when it arose against me, 00:06:35.79\00:06:38.16 I caught it by its beard, 00:06:38.19\00:06:42.23 and struck and killed it.'" 00:06:42.26\00:06:43.60 Can you believe it? 00:06:43.63\00:06:45.03 This young guy, he killed a lion and a bear 00:06:48.44\00:06:52.67 with his bare hands. 00:06:52.71\00:06:55.71 I've been to Africa number of occasions, 00:06:55.74\00:06:58.38 I've been an on safari in Africa. 00:06:58.41\00:07:00.92 I've had the great privilege of seeing lions in the wild. 00:07:00.95\00:07:05.22 They seem to be much bigger 00:07:05.25\00:07:06.82 than the scrawny looking lions that you see in circuses. 00:07:06.86\00:07:12.19 These big powerful beasts... 00:07:12.23\00:07:14.73 And the Bible tells us that David took a lion 00:07:14.76\00:07:18.70 and grabbed it by its beard. 00:07:18.73\00:07:22.24 I mean, it's almost too hard to believe. 00:07:22.27\00:07:23.61 He grabbed the bear with his own hands 00:07:23.64\00:07:26.94 as he grabbed the lion and slew it. 00:07:26.98\00:07:30.65 It appears to me that God... 00:07:30.68\00:07:34.85 Now remember this, God loves courage. 00:07:34.88\00:07:40.29 God doesn't love cowardice, and God doesn't love wimpiness, 00:07:40.32\00:07:45.43 God doesn't love the attitude. 00:07:45.46\00:07:48.50 God loves people, He loves cowards, 00:07:48.53\00:07:50.87 but God doesn't love the attitude 00:07:50.90\00:07:53.30 that throws in the sponge 00:07:53.34\00:07:55.47 and runs away from the battle. 00:07:55.50\00:07:58.77 So here you've got a young guy and God says, 00:07:58.81\00:08:02.51 "He's a man after my own heart" Why? 00:08:02.54\00:08:06.72 Because he's got the attribute of God 00:08:06.75\00:08:09.48 and God has got courage. 00:08:09.52\00:08:12.75 Now we're told that this young guy, 00:08:12.79\00:08:14.72 by the name of David, 00:08:14.76\00:08:16.42 was destined in the plan of almighty God for greatness. 00:08:16.46\00:08:21.30 There was a prophet by the name of Samuel, 00:08:21.33\00:08:24.90 and God tells him to go to the town of Bethlehem, 00:08:24.93\00:08:28.70 that's where David lived, that's where Jesus lived, 00:08:28.74\00:08:31.74 that's where Jesus was born. 00:08:31.77\00:08:35.18 And he goes there and he finds a man by the name of Jesse, 00:08:35.21\00:08:38.91 and Jesse has got these big, 00:08:38.95\00:08:41.18 handsome, tough young sons. 00:08:41.22\00:08:47.62 And all the boys passed before 00:08:47.66\00:08:50.53 the Prophet Samuel 00:08:50.56\00:08:53.60 and each boy seems to out do his predecessor, 00:08:53.63\00:08:57.23 they're such good-looking boys. 00:08:57.27\00:08:59.07 So all these boys pass before 00:08:59.10\00:09:02.17 the prophet and the prophet says, 00:09:02.20\00:09:04.27 "Not him, not him. 00:09:04.31\00:09:07.38 I've been told to come here 00:09:07.41\00:09:08.74 because you got to have somebody else" 00:09:08.78\00:09:11.31 Now if you come over here to 1 Samuel 00:09:11.35\00:09:14.08 16:7, 00:09:14.12\00:09:20.56 "But the Lord said to Samuel, 'Do not look at his appearance 00:09:20.59\00:09:25.39 or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. 00:09:25.43\00:09:30.97 For the Lord does not see as man sees, 00:09:31.00\00:09:35.00 for man looks at the outward appearance...'" 00:09:35.04\00:09:37.64 What does it say? 00:09:37.67\00:09:39.01 "The Lord looks at the heart.' 00:09:39.04\00:09:43.71 Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before 00:09:43.75\00:09:46.68 the Prophet Samuel. 00:09:46.72\00:09:48.05 And Samuel said to Jesse, 00:09:48.08\00:09:50.39 'The Lord has not chosen these.' 00:09:50.42\00:09:53.99 And Samuel said to Jesse, 'Are all the young men here?'" 00:09:54.02\00:09:58.69 Hey, are they all... 00:09:58.73\00:10:00.06 "Then he said, 00:10:00.10\00:10:01.43 'There remains yet the youngest, 00:10:01.46\00:10:03.20 and there he is, he's keeping the sheep.' 00:10:03.23\00:10:08.00 And Samuel said to Jesse, 'Send and bring him. 00:10:08.04\00:10:11.37 For we will not sit down till he comes here.' 00:10:11.41\00:10:14.48 So he sent and brought him in. 00:10:14.51\00:10:17.11 Now..." 00:10:17.15\00:10:18.48 Look at these words. 00:10:18.51\00:10:19.85 "He was ruddy, ruddy, with bright eyes, 00:10:19.88\00:10:25.35 and good-looking. 00:10:25.39\00:10:26.92 And the Lord said, 'Arise, anoint him, 00:10:26.96\00:10:31.36 for this is the one!'" 00:10:31.39\00:10:35.06 God had a plan for this boy. 00:10:35.10\00:10:37.43 You know why God had a plan for this boy? 00:10:37.47\00:10:40.17 You know why he was destined for greatness? 00:10:40.20\00:10:43.10 Because man looks on the outward appearance, 00:10:43.14\00:10:46.88 what does God look? 00:10:46.91\00:10:48.24 God looks on the heart, 00:10:48.28\00:10:50.11 and He looked into the heart of this boy, David, 00:10:50.15\00:10:55.02 and he found so much good in that heart 00:10:55.05\00:10:59.02 that he said, "This is the boy. 00:10:59.05\00:11:04.16 This is the boy. 00:11:04.19\00:11:06.09 He is going to become the king." 00:11:06.13\00:11:08.96 His heart was right with God. 00:11:09.00\00:11:10.33 I would like to remind you today 00:11:10.37\00:11:11.87 that God has a plan 00:11:11.90\00:11:13.47 and a purpose for every man, woman, and child. 00:11:13.50\00:11:18.04 God has a plan for the man or the woman 00:11:18.07\00:11:20.11 whose heart is right with God. 00:11:20.14\00:11:22.84 Every one of us is called for greatness in the plan 00:11:22.88\00:11:27.82 and the purpose of God if we will only believe. 00:11:27.85\00:11:33.72 Now the story goes on and tells us 00:11:33.76\00:11:37.16 about a man by the name of Goliath. 00:11:37.19\00:11:42.16 He is the champion of the Philistines 00:11:42.20\00:11:45.37 who are the enemies of the Israelites. 00:11:45.40\00:11:48.67 Do you know how tall Goliath was? 00:11:48.70\00:11:54.81 If you do, don't tell me because that will spoil things. 00:11:54.84\00:11:59.48 He was just a tad under 10 feet tall, 00:11:59.51\00:12:05.29 and he wasn't skinny, 00:12:05.32\00:12:07.69 he wasn't like a pole. 00:12:07.72\00:12:09.26 He must've been three feet across the shoulders 00:12:09.29\00:12:12.53 at least, maybe four feet. 00:12:12.56\00:12:14.83 He was a hulk, he was the incredible hulk. 00:12:14.86\00:12:20.47 He had a spear that was so big 00:12:20.50\00:12:22.24 that the head of the spear weighed 17 pounds. 00:12:22.27\00:12:26.88 And he's out cursing God and the children of Israel. 00:12:26.91\00:12:31.35 You know what the children of Israel are doing? 00:12:31.38\00:12:34.68 "Oh, we can't do it, he's too big for us." 00:12:34.72\00:12:39.05 These are the people of God. 00:12:39.09\00:12:40.42 "We can't do it!" 00:12:40.46\00:12:42.79 At sometimes, how the people of God operate? 00:12:42.82\00:12:45.16 "We can't do it, he's too big. 00:12:45.19\00:12:48.03 It's too hard." 00:12:48.06\00:12:49.40 And then this boy arrives and he says, 00:12:55.80\00:12:58.57 "Why is this uncircumcised Philistine 00:12:58.61\00:13:03.18 defying the God of heaven?" 00:13:03.21\00:13:06.61 He says, "Isn't there a champion?" 00:13:06.65\00:13:08.35 They said, "Go home boy, go home boy. 00:13:08.38\00:13:12.25 Go back to your mother." 00:13:12.29\00:13:14.42 One of his brothers said, "Go back to those few sheep." 00:13:14.46\00:13:20.13 But he says, "I will fight this man." 00:13:20.16\00:13:24.27 And he's got one thing, 00:13:24.30\00:13:27.20 he's got one thing that the giant hasn't got. 00:13:27.24\00:13:30.11 He's got courage and a... 00:13:30.14\00:13:34.61 He's got a weapon. 00:13:34.64\00:13:36.48 He got a slingshot. 00:13:36.51\00:13:38.25 You know what it is? 00:13:38.28\00:13:39.65 You know, flip... 00:13:39.68\00:13:41.82 Now you can read the story, 00:13:41.85\00:13:43.18 I want you to notice the story. 00:13:43.22\00:13:45.05 I want you to notice in 1 Samuel 17:45-47, 00:13:45.09\00:13:50.36 how interesting this is. 00:13:50.39\00:13:52.03 1 Samuel 45-47, 00:13:52.06\00:13:54.66 "Then David said to the Philistine, 00:13:54.70\00:13:56.70 'You come to me with a sword, with a spear, 00:13:56.73\00:14:00.44 and with a javelin. 00:14:00.47\00:14:02.27 But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, 00:14:02.30\00:14:04.87 the God of the armies of Israel, 00:14:04.91\00:14:07.61 whom you have defied. 00:14:07.64\00:14:09.81 This day the Lord will deliver you 00:14:09.84\00:14:11.81 into my hand, 00:14:11.85\00:14:13.18 and I will strike you and take your head from you. 00:14:13.21\00:14:16.42 And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp 00:14:16.45\00:14:19.79 of the Philistines to the birds of the air 00:14:19.82\00:14:23.29 and the wild beasts of the earth, 00:14:23.32\00:14:25.49 that all the earth may know 00:14:25.53\00:14:26.96 that there is a God in Israel. 00:14:27.00\00:14:29.96 Then all this assembly shall know 00:14:30.00\00:14:31.83 that the Lord does not save with sword and spear, 00:14:31.87\00:14:35.70 for the battle is the Lord's, 00:14:35.74\00:14:37.71 and He will give you into our hands.'" 00:14:37.74\00:14:41.81 And then this young man, the Bible says, 00:14:41.84\00:14:46.48 he runs towards the giant. 00:14:46.51\00:14:49.98 That's why he was a man after God's own heart. 00:14:50.02\00:14:53.49 He wasn't a weakling, he wasn't a coward, 00:14:53.52\00:14:56.59 he wasn't a person who was filled with doubts, 00:14:56.62\00:15:00.66 he wasn't a person saying, 00:15:00.70\00:15:02.40 "It can't be done, it's impossible. 00:15:02.43\00:15:05.00 We can't do these things." 00:15:05.03\00:15:07.70 But the Bible tells us that 00:15:07.74\00:15:09.30 David actually runs towards the Philistine 00:15:09.34\00:15:14.74 and the Philistine charges towards David, 00:15:14.78\00:15:18.05 and David lets it go. 00:15:18.08\00:15:20.82 When I was at Avondale College, 00:15:24.85\00:15:26.19 I heard a preacher talking this, 00:15:26.22\00:15:27.56 an old man by the name of Pastor Gane, 00:15:27.59\00:15:30.39 and he spoke about the moment 00:15:30.43\00:15:32.49 when the stone hit the forehead of the giant. 00:15:32.53\00:15:35.20 He said, "Something like this 00:15:35.23\00:15:37.70 had never ended his head before." 00:15:37.73\00:15:39.87 And this is true, 00:15:39.90\00:15:41.47 something like that had never ended 00:15:41.50\00:15:44.14 the head of the arch-enemy before. 00:15:44.17\00:15:48.58 And Goliath goes down but he's not dead. 00:15:48.61\00:15:53.21 He's not dead yet. 00:15:53.25\00:15:54.98 And this young man comes 00:15:55.02\00:15:57.82 and he pulls out Goliath's sword, 00:15:57.85\00:16:00.29 I guess he has a battle lifting up 00:16:00.32\00:16:03.89 the sword but within a moment, 00:16:03.93\00:16:07.10 he's lopped off the head of the giant. 00:16:07.13\00:16:13.07 That's why he is a man after God's own heart. 00:16:13.10\00:16:18.47 Many Christians think 00:16:18.51\00:16:19.84 all the attributes of Christianity 00:16:19.87\00:16:22.54 are summed up in the little rhyme 00:16:22.58\00:16:24.75 "Gentle Jesus, meek and mild," 00:16:24.78\00:16:28.15 you see, but it's far more than meekness and mildness, 00:16:28.18\00:16:32.82 it's a slingshot 00:16:32.85\00:16:38.66 that tells me God and one person are a majority. 00:16:38.69\00:16:45.33 We are saved not by our works, 00:16:45.37\00:16:48.24 but by the works of the son of David 00:16:48.27\00:16:50.77 who defeated Goliath on the cross. 00:16:50.81\00:16:54.38 You see, Goliath represented the devil 00:16:54.41\00:16:57.85 and the armies of darkness. 00:16:57.88\00:17:00.32 David represented the kingdom of God. 00:17:00.35\00:17:04.75 If Goliath had won, 00:17:04.79\00:17:07.62 all Israel was lost, 00:17:07.66\00:17:12.19 but when David won, 00:17:12.23\00:17:15.06 all of the people of God were saved, 00:17:15.10\00:17:19.37 not because of their courage and not because of their works, 00:17:19.40\00:17:24.94 but because David 00:17:24.97\00:17:28.11 had won the battle. 00:17:28.14\00:17:31.08 If God calls you, He will empower you. 00:17:31.11\00:17:37.15 A slingshot goes a long way with God. 00:17:37.19\00:17:41.59 With God you are invincible. 00:17:41.62\00:17:46.43 Don't hang out with people 00:17:46.46\00:17:49.90 who are naysayers. 00:17:49.93\00:17:53.54 Don't make friends of people 00:17:53.57\00:17:56.50 who talk you down, 00:17:56.54\00:17:59.64 whether it's in church or out of church. 00:17:59.67\00:18:02.04 Christian churches are filled 00:18:02.08\00:18:04.85 with faithless people. 00:18:04.88\00:18:08.48 "It can't be done!" 00:18:08.52\00:18:11.19 You see, don't tell me to preach 00:18:11.22\00:18:13.92 or else I'll just get out of control. 00:18:13.96\00:18:18.46 Listen, if God calls you, He will empower you. 00:18:18.49\00:18:23.50 Now I come to the next great truth. 00:18:23.53\00:18:25.73 The path to glory is paved with rough, 00:18:25.77\00:18:28.94 jagged stones. 00:18:28.97\00:18:33.31 King Saul is full of jealousy and anger 00:18:33.34\00:18:36.11 and he sets out to kill David. 00:18:36.14\00:18:38.85 Jealousy is a terrible sin. 00:18:38.88\00:18:42.45 It is a sin of insecure little men and women. 00:18:42.48\00:18:48.42 Saul, initially, loved him. 00:18:48.46\00:18:51.29 He takes him into the palace. 00:18:51.33\00:18:52.99 David is a skilled musician, 00:18:53.03\00:18:56.77 didn't belong to the Gaithers but he did better. 00:18:56.80\00:19:01.60 Why was the king so depressed? 00:19:01.64\00:19:04.14 David comes into the palace and he plays the psalms 00:19:04.17\00:19:08.31 and beautiful music. 00:19:08.34\00:19:09.68 You know why the king is depressed? 00:19:09.71\00:19:11.95 Because the Bible says, "The king is angry." 00:19:11.98\00:19:16.48 Listen to this, you may not know this. 00:19:16.52\00:19:19.45 The main cause of depression 00:19:19.49\00:19:24.66 is repressed anger. 00:19:24.69\00:19:29.30 So if you have got anger inside 00:19:29.33\00:19:34.14 and you don't give it up get it out, 00:19:34.17\00:19:37.51 you will become clinically depressed. 00:19:37.54\00:19:43.14 That's a fact. 00:19:43.18\00:19:47.78 "And on one occasion, this anger came upon the king, 00:19:47.82\00:19:51.55 he took his javelin and tried to pin David to the wall." 00:19:51.59\00:19:57.13 After the defeat of Goliath, 00:19:57.16\00:20:00.90 the king was supposed 00:20:00.93\00:20:02.26 to give to David his daughter because that was promised. 00:20:02.30\00:20:06.07 His eldest daughter was Merab, but the king was a liar 00:20:06.10\00:20:10.31 and a cheat and he gave the girl to somebody else. 00:20:10.34\00:20:13.58 He had a younger daughter. 00:20:13.61\00:20:15.78 His youngest daughter was Michal 00:20:15.81\00:20:20.38 and she loved David. 00:20:20.42\00:20:24.35 And the king was going to use his own daughter to kill David, 00:20:24.39\00:20:28.92 whom he hated. 00:20:28.96\00:20:31.36 And so he said, "You can have my daughter 00:20:31.39\00:20:35.06 and become the king's son-in-law, 00:20:35.10\00:20:37.43 but I want a 100 dead Philistines 00:20:37.47\00:20:40.74 as the dowry." 00:20:40.77\00:20:43.61 And David said, "No problem," 00:20:43.64\00:20:45.87 and brought him 200 dead Philistines. 00:20:45.91\00:20:51.01 He was not a wimp. 00:20:51.05\00:20:53.85 Saul pursues him, David flees. 00:20:53.88\00:20:57.75 One night David is on this hill, 00:20:57.79\00:21:00.12 the king and his army is on this hill, 00:21:00.16\00:21:03.63 and a young man and David go over to where 00:21:03.66\00:21:07.00 the king is sleeping. 00:21:07.03\00:21:10.23 It's an amazing story. 00:21:10.27\00:21:12.90 1 Samuel 26:7, 8, 00:21:12.93\00:21:17.31 "So David and Abishai..." 00:21:17.34\00:21:19.17 He had courage, this young guy too. 00:21:19.21\00:21:20.94 "Came to the people by night, 00:21:20.98\00:21:22.78 and there Saul lay sleeping within the camp, 00:21:22.81\00:21:25.48 with his spear struck in the ground by his head. 00:21:25.51\00:21:28.45 And Abner and the people lay all around him, snoring. 00:21:28.48\00:21:33.99 Then Abishai said to David, 00:21:34.02\00:21:36.16 'God has delivered your enemy into your hand this day. 00:21:36.19\00:21:39.83 Now therefore, please, let me strike him at once 00:21:39.86\00:21:44.37 with the spear, right to the earth, 00:21:44.40\00:21:47.64 and I will not have to strike him 00:21:47.67\00:21:49.40 a second time!'" 00:21:49.44\00:21:52.27 Look at me, you know why they were sleeping? 00:21:52.31\00:21:56.58 Because God put them to sleep. 00:21:56.61\00:22:00.32 God can put your enemies to sleep. 00:22:00.35\00:22:03.39 Some crooked attorney is coming after you 00:22:03.42\00:22:06.12 who wants to fleece you. 00:22:06.15\00:22:10.26 If you have God in your life, 00:22:10.29\00:22:12.49 God can put your enemies to sleep. 00:22:12.53\00:22:15.53 They can't hurt you. 00:22:15.56\00:22:18.23 But David would not lift up his hand 00:22:18.27\00:22:20.10 against the Lord's anointed, 00:22:20.14\00:22:21.67 that's why he is called a man after God's ownheart. 00:22:21.70\00:22:26.27 And so they take the spear 00:22:26.31\00:22:28.61 and they go to the other side of the ravine 00:22:28.64\00:22:32.58 and you read 1 Samuel 26:21, 25, 00:22:32.61\00:22:37.09 Because David has called out to him, 00:22:37.12\00:22:39.72 "Then Saul said, 'I have sinned. 00:22:39.75\00:22:41.09 Return, my son David. 00:22:41.12\00:22:42.92 For I will harm you no more 00:22:42.96\00:22:44.86 because my life was precious in your eyes this day. 00:22:44.89\00:22:48.40 Indeed I have played the fool and erred exceedingly.' 00:22:48.43\00:22:52.83 Then Saul said to David, 00:22:52.87\00:22:54.34 'May you be blessed, my son David! 00:22:54.37\00:22:56.34 You shall both do great things and also still prevail.' 00:22:56.37\00:23:00.41 So David went on his way, 00:23:00.44\00:23:02.24 and Saul returned to his palace.'" 00:23:02.28\00:23:06.41 What a tragedy to come to the end of your life 00:23:06.45\00:23:10.25 after being the leader of God's people 00:23:10.29\00:23:13.66 and your closing testimony is 00:23:13.69\00:23:16.06 "I have played the fool." 00:23:16.09\00:23:20.83 "I've played the fool." 00:23:20.86\00:23:24.67 But even great and good men can do bad things. 00:23:24.70\00:23:29.70 David goes and hides with the Philistines, 00:23:29.74\00:23:31.97 the enemies of Israel. 00:23:32.01\00:23:34.91 It's not good to associate willingly 00:23:34.94\00:23:37.15 with the enemies of God. 00:23:37.18\00:23:39.75 He hangs out with the wrong crowd. 00:23:39.78\00:23:42.65 If you're hanging out with the wrong crowd, 00:23:42.68\00:23:45.75 don't expect that God is going to bless you. 00:23:45.79\00:23:49.82 Don't hang out with the wrong crowd, 00:23:49.86\00:23:53.06 you don't need them and they don't need you. 00:23:53.09\00:23:58.43 While there he deceives the king Achish, 00:23:58.47\00:24:01.47 who was protecting him. 00:24:01.50\00:24:04.34 1 Samuel 27:10, 11 00:24:04.37\00:24:08.41 "Then Achish would say, 00:24:08.44\00:24:09.78 'Where have you made a raid today?' 00:24:09.81\00:24:11.45 And David would say, 00:24:11.48\00:24:12.81 'Against the southern area of Judah, 00:24:12.85\00:24:14.52 or against the southern area of the Jerahmeelites, 00:24:14.55\00:24:17.92 or against the southern area of the Kenites, and so forth.' 00:24:17.95\00:24:21.12 David would save neither man nor woman alive, 00:24:21.16\00:24:24.73 to bring news to Gath, saying, 00:24:24.76\00:24:26.59 'Lest they should inform on us, saying, 00:24:26.63\00:24:29.00 'Thus David did.' 00:24:29.03\00:24:31.60 And thus was his behavior all the time 00:24:31.63\00:24:34.47 he dwelt in the country of the Philistines.'" 00:24:34.50\00:24:36.67 You know what David is doing? 00:24:36.71\00:24:40.08 David is making his own bed. 00:24:40.11\00:24:43.58 David is lying to the man who was protecting him 00:24:43.61\00:24:49.12 and befriending him. 00:24:49.15\00:24:50.82 Don't tell me now he's a man after God's own heart. 00:24:50.85\00:24:55.86 In his desperation to stay alive, 00:24:55.89\00:24:57.93 he became a deceiver. 00:24:57.96\00:25:00.26 This was a start of his own personal descent into hell. 00:25:00.30\00:25:05.13 Listen to me, 00:25:05.17\00:25:06.50 a liar always travels downhill 00:25:06.53\00:25:13.07 and we live in a time when the world 00:25:13.11\00:25:16.71 and the nation are full of liars, 00:25:16.75\00:25:21.78 going down to hell, 00:25:21.82\00:25:26.45 I tell you. 00:25:26.49\00:25:29.19 I've known many lies, they've all had a bad end. 00:25:29.22\00:25:34.76 David the deceiver was later deceived. 00:25:34.80\00:25:40.10 Saul dies, David becomes the king 00:25:40.14\00:25:45.81 and according to the customs of those days, 00:25:45.84\00:25:49.61 he acquires a harem. 00:25:49.64\00:25:55.55 And in the next part of our program 00:25:55.58\00:25:58.12 in just a few minutes, 00:25:58.15\00:26:00.72 I will tell you the story of David's harem. 00:26:00.76\00:26:06.70 Don't go away, we'll be right back. 00:26:06.73\00:26:09.13 The antichrist is in the temple of God. 00:26:23.11\00:26:28.62 I will read you the actual words 00:26:28.65\00:26:31.15 of The Great Roman Catholic Church. 00:26:31.19\00:26:35.66 More than a billion people pray to the dead. 00:26:35.69\00:26:40.96 But the Bible talks very plainly 00:26:41.00\00:26:42.66 about good angels 00:26:42.70\00:26:44.53 and bad angels. 00:26:44.57\00:26:45.93 Why on earth were you and I born? 00:26:49.04\00:26:54.31 This DVD series from John Carter
