king made an image of gold,

He set it up in
the plain of Dura,

in the province of Babylon."

Last week we talked about
the great image of Daniel too,

which had a head of
gold and chest of silver.

You know the story, we
talked about this last week.

But some time after
this, this young potentate,

this dictator who
was not comfortable

with the idea

that he would be
replaced by the chest of silver

and the belly and
the thighs of bronze

He made this
great image and it was,

wasn't made partly of gold,

the whole thing was made of gold

to symbolize himself.

It was probably a
statue of himself,

such as you see in North
Korea and in some other places.

He had a tremendous ego.

Did you know that his empire

was the second
Babylonian Empire?

They had been the
first Babylonian Empire

and this went back a 1000
years before Nebuchadnezzar

back to the days of Hammurabi

heard about Hammurabi's Code.

And so now he inherits
the second Babylonian Empire,

in his heart

there is the desire to
make Babylon great again.

So this was his
consuming passion,

we're going to be the
biggest and the greatest,

we're going to make Babylon
as great as it has ever been

you of this truth today,

dedication of the image

Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

representing the empire
of the new Babylonian Empire

This is called the
tyranny of the crowd,

and it happens
whatever your nationality,

whatever your religion,
and whatever your creed,

when you were with
a big group of people

and you're told to do something,

the pressure is
enormous to do it.

Everybody here

was marching to the
beat of a different drummer

that was Nebuchadnezzar.

It is very easy for the weak,

the frightened, the
insecure, and the ignorant,
00:08:44.52\00:08:49.32
and the proud to be swayed
00:08:49.36\00:08:51.96
by a demagogue.

And so here is one of the
world's greatest demagogues.

And he says, every
person has got to kneel down,

you've got to get down
with your faces in the dust,

and you've got to conform,
and you've got to worship.

definition of demagogue.

So here is the case of mass

manipulation of the people.

And of course,
this could never happen

in our day and
age, could it now?

Well, we all know
about Mussolini and Hitler.

The Germans were and still
are very intelligent people.

Almost all of the Germans
00:10:10.24\00:10:13.07
and the
Italians were Christians.
00:10:13.11\00:10:16.68
And 95% of the Germans,
00:10:16.71\00:10:20.68
the Protestants
and the Catholics,
00:10:20.72\00:10:24.19
put this man into power 95%.
00:10:24.22\00:10:29.76
And they remained silent
00:10:29.79\00:10:32.79
when the Jews were marched
into the concentration camps.

They were called the apostles
of culture were the Germans.

By the time Hitler was through,

he had killed in the war,

and in his death camps
50 plus million people.

Why?

Because our Christian
nation was overwhelmed

by the oratory of the leader.

Now it is of great significance

says, listen to this.

That the scenes of Daniel 3

in the last days.

Our conformity is very easy,

particularly, if you
were the big crowd of people

who ostensibly
think the same as you do.

And remember this,

people will do in a
crowd on a committee,

you say this would
never happen in churches,

especially
churches, especially churches,

where people will prostitute
their consciences in a crowd

and they would never do it

in their own homes.

So by the time Hitler
and his gang got through,

there were tens of
millions of deaths.

Conformity to evil is evil.

hearts to want to fit in.

They spoke and said
to King Nebuchadnezzar,

'O king, live forever!

made a decree that everyone

who hears the sound of the horn,

flute, harp, lyre,
psaltery, in symphony

with all kinds of music,

shall fall down and
worship the gold image.

And whoever does not
fall down and worship

shall be cast into the midst
of a burning fiery furnace.

There are certain
Jews whom you have set over

the affairs of the
province of Babylon,

Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abed-Nego.

These men, O king,

have not paid due regard to you.

They do not serve your

significant that Shadrach,

of Babylon on this occasion.

been hundreds of Jews

who were brought from Jerusalem

to be trained in the
court of Nebuchadnezzar.

So here you've got

all of the professed people
of God at least in Babylon,

the ones who are the leaders.

And all the
peoples of the earth,

characterized by one trait,

their sniffling subservience.

And their willing
obedience to get their noses

down in the dirt.

Rather than be stalwarts

for truth and decency.

Now the Bible makes it plain
that there were three misfits,

people watching the telecast.

The Bible is full of the deeds
of young men and young women.

go to church councils,

white hair or no hair,

but the people who changed
the world were young people

got standing up straight

proudly erect

What about the others?

We should never be afraid
when we're in the minority,

and there's a reason for this.

God plus one
equals an invincible army.

It is not who is against
you, it is who is with you.

think they are standing alone,

because God is with them.

So they brought
these men before the king.

Nebuchadnezzar
spoke, saying to them,
00:17:10.56\00:17:12.33
'Is it true, Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abed-Nego,
00:17:12.36\00:17:16.53
that you do not serve my gods
00:17:16.56\00:17:18.93
or worship the gold
image which I have set up?'"

Verse 15, "Now if you are ready

at the time you hear
the sound of the horn,

meeting of five young men.

just a young man,

recognize this great truth

God has never
promised a life without trials.

blessed Lord said these words.

In the world you will
have tribulation or trouble,

Spurgeon said, "God had
only one son without sin,

but he never had a
son without sorrow."

So the Bible
teaches, Jesus teaches,

that in this world
if we follow Christ,

we are bound to have
trouble and tribulation.

This is true of the individual
as well as of the church.

Distorting popular theology

that the church
escapes the great tribulation

and is ruptured home to glory.

That is a pernicious heresy.

It is the religion of weakness.
