spiritual institutes,

He founded the Society of Jesus,

but the Jesuits became the
enemies of the Protestants,

Their aim was the death

destruction of Protestantism.

And of course, as you all know

Then it was Martin Luther,

Martin Luther was born in 1483.

He was a German.

In 1505 while he was
studying to be a lawyer,

he was caught in a thunderstorm,

he had such a
fear of going to hell

that Martin Luther cried out,

"I will be a

And so he gave up
studying to be a lawyer

and he became a priest.

He entered the
Augustine cloister.

He became a priest and
he taught at Wittenberg.

At the University
of Wittenberg in 1512,

he was given a
doctor of theology degree.

he had tremendous
amount of knowledge,

Martin Luther who
was very much like

the same spiritual drive

even though he had a
doctorate in theology,

Martin Luther had
no peace with God.

And I'll tell you

how Martin Luther
reasoned, he said,

"God is holy, I am unholy.

God is
righteous, I am unrighteous.

Therefore, God

And when the old
father confessor said to him,
