Well, I'm glad to see you today. 00:00:13.44\00:00:15.34 The topic is The Search For Happiness. 00:00:15.38\00:00:21.22 Many years ago, 00:00:21.25\00:00:22.98 before most of you folks were born. 00:00:23.02\00:00:26.92 Beverley and I were out driving in northern New South Wales. 00:00:26.96\00:00:32.99 Does that confusion? 00:00:33.03\00:00:34.36 It's Wales, you know, sort of part of the UK. 00:00:34.36\00:00:38.97 Then there's Northern Wales. 00:00:39.00\00:00:40.80 Well, this is North New South Wales. 00:00:40.87\00:00:45.74 And we were driving near a little town, 00:00:45.77\00:00:47.94 this will confusion you too, by the name of Mullumbimby. 00:00:47.98\00:00:50.81 If there's anybody watching the telecast from Mullumbimby, 00:00:50.88\00:00:53.75 just want to say hello to you. 00:00:53.95\00:00:55.95 But as we were driving along there was a beautiful girl 00:00:55.98\00:00:58.45 standing beside the road. 00:00:58.49\00:01:00.66 And she was thumbing up, 00:01:00.69\00:01:02.32 you know, she was hitch-hiking. 00:01:02.36\00:01:04.03 And so we pulled up and we said, 00:01:04.06\00:01:05.39 "Where are you going?" 00:01:05.43\00:01:06.80 She said, "I'm on the way to happiness." 00:01:06.83\00:01:10.27 And so we put her in the car and I said her, 00:01:10.33\00:01:13.64 "Where is the way to happiness?" 00:01:13.70\00:01:15.04 She said "Down at Byron Bay." 00:01:15.07\00:01:17.77 And the people who come from Byron Bay 00:01:17.81\00:01:19.77 know exactly what I'm talking about. 00:01:19.81\00:01:21.68 That's the pot capital of Australia. 00:01:21.71\00:01:24.78 It's a bit of Colorado. 00:01:24.81\00:01:26.15 And so she said, "I'm going up to Byron Bay, 00:01:29.58\00:01:32.69 at the back of the Byron Bay, not Byron Bay itself, 00:01:32.72\00:01:35.29 but up in the mountains" because she said, 00:01:35.32\00:01:38.33 "We're going to be free from all restrained." 00:01:38.83\00:01:41.96 A beautiful girl, and she said, 00:01:42.00\00:01:44.53 "I'm empty inside but I'm searching for happiness." 00:01:44.57\00:01:50.27 Never saw her again, obviously. 00:01:50.34\00:01:53.17 But it is true that the whole world 00:01:53.21\00:01:55.14 is searching for a creed to believe, 00:01:55.18\00:02:00.12 and a song to sing. 00:02:00.15\00:02:03.02 I want to notice the words of the most influential person 00:02:03.05\00:02:09.26 who ever lived. 00:02:09.29\00:02:10.99 And that is Christ. 00:02:11.03\00:02:12.36 Would you please turn in your bible 00:02:12.39\00:02:14.20 to John 10:10, 00:02:14.20\00:02:18.87 the words of the most influential person 00:02:18.90\00:02:23.91 who ever lived in history of the human race. 00:02:23.97\00:02:26.37 John 10:10, and Jesus said, 00:02:26.41\00:02:31.18 "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, 00:02:31.21\00:02:37.09 and to destroy." 00:02:37.15\00:02:38.49 There are lots of thieves, my friend. 00:02:38.52\00:02:40.92 "I have come that they may have life." 00:02:40.96\00:02:42.99 What did he say? 00:02:43.02\00:02:44.36 "That they may have it more abundantly." 00:02:44.39\00:02:47.76 The Jesus said, 00:02:47.76\00:02:50.93 I've come to this world. 00:02:50.97\00:02:52.90 He said, it's a pretty dark place, 00:02:52.93\00:02:55.20 but I've come into this place to show you 00:02:55.24\00:02:58.74 the path to happiness. 00:02:58.77\00:03:02.98 Every person under the sun knows that we have a problem. 00:03:03.01\00:03:09.15 The human race got a problem and thus the hippy girl was, 00:03:09.18\00:03:13.29 you know, up there on the hills, 00:03:13.36\00:03:16.29 going to the place behind Byron Bay 00:03:16.32\00:03:19.36 searching for the happiness. 00:03:19.39\00:03:21.33 Every year in this great country, 00:03:21.36\00:03:23.93 the United States of America, 00:03:23.97\00:03:26.23 42,773 people say that, life, I can't take it anymore, 00:03:26.27\00:03:33.01 and they commit suicide, including Hollywood stars. 00:03:33.04\00:03:39.15 In fact, I'm told over the last few years 00:03:39.18\00:03:41.65 the rate of suicide in the United States of America 00:03:42.25\00:03:45.02 is up some, I think it's... 00:03:45.05\00:03:47.99 my memory is working today, 40 percent. 00:03:48.02\00:03:53.03 More than a million Americans every year 00:03:53.06\00:03:56.23 tried to take their own lives, 00:03:56.26\00:03:59.37 including some of the glamorous and the beautiful people 00:03:59.40\00:04:04.21 that you see on the television. 00:04:04.24\00:04:07.81 The question is, 00:04:07.84\00:04:09.81 what is the root cause of the deadly malaise, 00:04:09.84\00:04:14.22 and all pervading sense of discontent and hopelessness? 00:04:14.25\00:04:20.26 Have you heard the story of the man 00:04:20.29\00:04:21.92 who went alone to see his physiologist? 00:04:21.96\00:04:25.66 And he said, "I'm is terribly depressed, 00:04:25.69\00:04:27.60 I don't see any purpose in living. 00:04:27.60\00:04:29.96 I just feel like ending at all." 00:04:30.03\00:04:32.30 The physiologist said, "Well, look," he said, 00:04:32.33\00:04:34.00 "we all get the blues." 00:04:34.04\00:04:35.84 He said, "Did you know the circus has come to town?" 00:04:35.87\00:04:38.61 And he said, "They have a marvelous clown." 00:04:38.64\00:04:41.54 He said, "He is the funniest clown 00:04:41.58\00:04:44.21 that you'll ever seen anywhere in the world." 00:04:44.25\00:04:46.41 He said, "I went along to see the clown 00:04:46.45\00:04:48.65 just the other night. 00:04:48.68\00:04:50.05 And I laughed, and I laughed, and I laughed." 00:04:50.09\00:04:52.69 He said to the man, 00:04:52.72\00:04:54.06 "You ought to go and see the clown." 00:04:54.12\00:04:56.42 The man said, "Doctor, I am the clown." 00:04:56.46\00:04:59.56 So the whole world, we know, 00:05:03.37\00:05:04.97 is searching for a creed to believe 00:05:05.00\00:05:08.90 and for a song to sing. 00:05:08.94\00:05:12.51 There has been various solutions 00:05:14.81\00:05:17.55 that has been proposed 00:05:17.65\00:05:19.85 and one solution was given to us by a very famous man, 00:05:19.88\00:05:23.99 he was a German Jew. 00:05:24.02\00:05:26.19 Some of the great thinkers, German Jews. 00:05:26.22\00:05:28.36 His name was Karl Marx. 00:05:28.39\00:05:33.70 You've all heard about the Karl Marx? 00:05:33.73\00:05:35.43 He gave his communism, he gave his Marxism, 00:05:35.46\00:05:38.23 he said "Religion is the impotence 00:05:38.27\00:05:42.64 of the human mind to deal with occurrences 00:05:42.67\00:05:47.04 it cannot understand." 00:05:47.08\00:05:50.15 He said, we are religious 00:05:50.21\00:05:51.58 because we just can't work things out. 00:05:51.61\00:05:55.02 He believed in the class struggle. 00:05:55.05\00:05:58.19 We hear these all the times today, 00:05:58.22\00:06:00.49 the rich against the poor, 00:06:00.52\00:06:02.96 and the problem of pure capitalism. 00:06:02.99\00:06:06.83 You will remember the book Animal Farm 00:06:06.86\00:06:09.46 by George Orwell. 00:06:09.50\00:06:11.90 In the book the communist said, all animals are equal 00:06:11.93\00:06:15.70 but some animals are more equal. 00:06:15.74\00:06:18.44 And they discovered that the animals 00:06:18.47\00:06:20.88 were most equal in the Soviet Union 00:06:20.91\00:06:23.11 were the pigs. 00:06:23.14\00:06:27.12 And so the Marxism is an attempt 00:06:27.15\00:06:30.22 to solve the problem, 00:06:30.29\00:06:32.42 the malaise that afflicts the human heart. 00:06:32.45\00:06:36.62 Didn't see it worked very well at all. 00:06:36.66\00:06:38.43 He also said, 00:06:38.46\00:06:39.79 religion is the opium of the people. 00:06:39.83\00:06:43.33 When you think of Russia, the atheist, 00:06:43.37\00:06:46.50 the communist put to death in Russia 00:06:46.53\00:06:48.84 around 50 million people. 00:06:49.24\00:06:51.67 It's not a very good advertisement for communism. 00:06:51.71\00:06:54.68 Not a very good advert... 00:06:54.71\00:06:56.04 and especially, when you discover in American, 00:06:56.08\00:06:58.41 today people are thinking 00:06:58.45\00:07:00.25 communism may be the solution to the problem. 00:07:00.28\00:07:03.28 Fifty million people were murdered by the communist. 00:07:03.32\00:07:07.39 And then if you go to China, the days of Mao, 00:07:07.42\00:07:10.16 tens of millions were put into death there. 00:07:10.49\00:07:12.26 Then in Cambodia, it's unspeakable, 00:07:12.29\00:07:15.30 the millions of people who were put into death 00:07:15.33\00:07:17.37 because they were considered to be less than animals. 00:07:17.40\00:07:22.47 Another man who had a tremendous impact 00:07:22.50\00:07:24.44 upon the human race was Freud. 00:07:24.47\00:07:27.38 He was an Australian Jew. 00:07:27.41\00:07:30.45 He said, "Our problems are purely psychological, 00:07:30.48\00:07:33.92 " not so much economical and political, as mark said. 00:07:33.95\00:07:36.45 But Freud said, psychological. 00:07:36.48\00:07:39.22 And most of our urges have got to do 00:07:39.25\00:07:43.06 with our sexuality. 00:07:43.09\00:07:46.43 He was the person who discovered or rather 00:07:46.46\00:07:48.56 who implemented psychoanalysis. 00:07:48.60\00:07:51.90 He said, "Religion is an illusion 00:07:51.93\00:07:57.27 and it derives it's strength from the fact that it falls in 00:07:57.31\00:08:01.11 with our instinctual desires 00:08:01.14\00:08:05.28 and our drives." 00:08:05.31\00:08:08.68 We've all got these hidden passions, 00:08:08.72\00:08:12.35 and the solution is psychoanalysis. 00:08:12.39\00:08:18.99 Perhaps, the philosopher 00:08:19.03\00:08:20.56 who has influenced America and the world 00:08:20.63\00:08:23.00 more than anybody else is the great German philosopher 00:08:23.03\00:08:27.14 who wanted to become a pastor, Nietzsche. 00:08:27.17\00:08:31.97 He was born in the year that some would say 00:08:32.01\00:08:34.54 was quite significant, he was born in 1844 00:08:34.58\00:08:39.45 and he died of syphilis in 1900. 00:08:39.48\00:08:42.92 And when nobody else would take care of this man 00:08:42.95\00:08:45.59 who hated Christianity, 00:08:45.62\00:08:47.29 he was taking care of by his Christian mother 00:08:47.36\00:08:50.43 and his sister. 00:08:50.46\00:08:51.96 He thought that weakness is evil 00:08:51.99\00:08:56.36 and that power is good. 00:08:56.40\00:08:59.07 He said, "You have your way. I have my way. 00:08:59.10\00:09:02.54 As for the right way, the correct way, 00:09:02.57\00:09:05.11 and the only way, it does not exist." 00:09:05.14\00:09:09.24 It said that the Fuhrer, 00:09:09.28\00:09:11.21 Hitler slept with the copy of the Antichrist 00:09:11.25\00:09:16.05 under his pillow. 00:09:16.08\00:09:18.39 He believed that might was right 00:09:18.42\00:09:22.16 and the emergence of the super race. 00:09:22.19\00:09:25.39 Listen to these statements, almost too hard to believe. 00:09:25.43\00:09:28.83 "All superior men who were irresistibly drawn 00:09:28.86\00:09:32.77 to throw off the yoke of any kind of morality 00:09:32.80\00:09:36.34 and to frame new laws had, 00:09:36.37\00:09:39.84 if they were not actually mad, no alternative 00:09:39.87\00:09:43.65 but to make themselves or pretend to be mad. 00:09:43.68\00:09:48.72 " So this is the person who has influenced American, 00:09:48.75\00:09:53.05 British, and German, and Australian, 00:09:53.09\00:09:55.39 and all the great universities, 00:09:55.42\00:09:57.79 more than any other person in history. 00:09:57.83\00:10:01.63 Nietzsche, he set out to be a pastor. 00:10:01.66\00:10:05.37 Then a person, perhaps, 00:10:05.40\00:10:06.74 who was even more famous than Nietzsche 00:10:06.80\00:10:09.14 is Charles Darwin, 00:10:09.17\00:10:11.27 who also set out to become a Christian pastor 00:10:11.31\00:10:15.41 because he belong to the church of England. 00:10:15.44\00:10:18.75 He said, "One general law, 00:10:18.78\00:10:22.48 leading to the advancement of all organic beings... 00:10:22.52\00:10:26.72 let the strongest live and let the weakest die." 00:10:26.76\00:10:33.06 Now we should not think for a moment, 00:10:33.09\00:10:35.36 that Darwin was a bad man, 00:10:35.86\00:10:39.60 he was a kind and a decent man. 00:10:39.63\00:10:43.10 He only became an evolutionist, 00:10:43.14\00:10:48.91 and eventually an Aesthesis, or the very best an agnostic 00:10:48.94\00:10:53.18 after he prayed to God to save his daughter. 00:10:53.21\00:10:56.52 And when his daughter died, he said, 00:10:57.89\00:11:00.46 this is the proof that there is no God. 00:11:00.49\00:11:03.83 He said this, hard to believe, he said this, 00:11:03.86\00:11:07.86 "It's the origin of the species, 00:11:07.93\00:11:10.13 it's a mere rag of a hypotheses with as many flaws 00:11:10.17\00:11:14.84 and holes a sound pots." 00:11:14.87\00:11:20.34 Therefore, the idea of the evolution 00:11:20.38\00:11:22.98 is not a scientific idea, 00:11:23.01\00:11:25.15 it is a philosophy of choice, if there is no God. 00:11:25.18\00:11:31.55 He taught of cause, that life has developed 00:11:31.59\00:11:33.52 purely by chance. 00:11:33.56\00:11:36.09 Neo-Darwinist like Richard Dawkins say, 00:11:36.12\00:11:38.99 there is no meaning, no God and no design. 00:11:39.03\00:11:43.80 A famous evolutionist, 00:11:43.83\00:11:47.64 Philip Adams made this statement, 00:11:47.67\00:11:51.14 can you believe it. 00:11:51.17\00:11:52.51 "We are as significant 00:11:52.54\00:11:54.94 as the eighth billionth grain of sand 00:11:54.98\00:11:58.98 beyond the final palm tree in the most distant oasis 00:11:59.01\00:12:04.29 in the Sahara." 00:12:04.32\00:12:07.56 Let see, end result of cause, of atheism 00:12:07.59\00:12:11.09 and evolution though, I would say this quickly, 00:12:11.13\00:12:14.50 not all evolutionists are atheists. 00:12:14.56\00:12:18.90 There are the theistic evolutionists 00:12:18.93\00:12:21.10 who are Christians, such as Francis Collins, 00:12:21.14\00:12:25.94 who wrote the remarkable book The Language of God. 00:12:25.97\00:12:29.64 But pure Darwinism is atheistic 00:12:29.68\00:12:32.75 to the heart. 00:12:32.78\00:12:34.12 It teaches this, listen, 00:12:34.18\00:12:35.72 nothing produced everything, 00:12:35.75\00:12:40.32 non-life produced life, 00:12:40.36\00:12:43.43 randomness produced fine-tuning. 00:12:43.49\00:12:47.36 Chaos produced information, 00:12:47.40\00:12:51.07 unconscious produced conscious, 00:12:51.10\00:12:54.17 and non-reason produce reason. 00:12:54.20\00:12:57.44 Let us be honest. 00:12:57.47\00:13:01.34 Such an idea is totally unscientific, unattainable, 00:13:01.38\00:13:04.88 and some would say a form of madness. 00:13:04.91\00:13:08.75 A form of madness. 00:13:08.78\00:13:11.52 And so these are some of the worldviews 00:13:11.55\00:13:13.56 I presented to you today, 00:13:13.59\00:13:14.92 but I believe they would not hold water. 00:13:14.96\00:13:18.63 Today, I want to present the Christian worldview 00:13:18.66\00:13:22.40 based on the Holy Scriptures. 00:13:22.43\00:13:25.27 And the bible teaches that first and foremost 00:13:25.30\00:13:28.50 our problem is not psychological, 00:13:28.54\00:13:31.41 it is not political, or economic, or sexual, 00:13:31.44\00:13:36.18 or any those things. 00:13:36.21\00:13:37.55 The bible teaches 00:13:37.61\00:13:38.95 that basically our problem is spiritual. 00:13:38.98\00:13:43.05 Would you please turn in your Bible 00:13:43.08\00:13:44.55 to the Romans 3:23. 00:13:44.59\00:13:49.49 Turning to Romans 3, 00:13:49.52\00:13:52.79 by the great Jewish theologian Paul. 00:13:52.83\00:13:56.60 The bible says, "For all have sinned 00:13:56.63\00:14:01.47 and fall short of the glory of God." 00:14:01.50\00:14:05.04 So the teaching of the bible 00:14:05.07\00:14:06.98 is that our problem is basically a spiritual problem 00:14:07.01\00:14:11.05 and it has to do with sin. 00:14:11.08\00:14:15.42 The hardest truth for any person, 00:14:15.45\00:14:17.52 whether he is a Darwinist or psychoanalyst, or Marxist, 00:14:17.59\00:14:23.53 is to recognize that our problem is sin. 00:14:23.56\00:14:28.46 It was only after, could you believe this, 00:14:28.50\00:14:31.43 it was only after 9/11 that many American philosophers 00:14:31.47\00:14:36.87 in our best universities considered the facts 00:14:36.91\00:14:39.91 that there was evil in the world. 00:14:39.94\00:14:43.91 Well, you see, if ultimately, 00:14:43.95\00:14:46.31 and you got to be honest in your thinking. 00:14:46.35\00:14:49.12 And the problem is with many people, 00:14:49.15\00:14:50.55 they are not honest in their thinking, 00:14:50.59\00:14:52.12 but they are carried away by their emotions. 00:14:52.15\00:14:55.12 But if there is no God, there is no good, you see. 00:14:55.16\00:15:00.43 There is no right and there is no right... 00:15:00.46\00:15:03.16 There is no right and no wrong 00:15:03.20\00:15:05.70 if these men are right. 00:15:05.73\00:15:08.17 The evidence of sin is everywhere apparent, 00:15:08.20\00:15:11.94 my friends, think about it. 00:15:11.97\00:15:13.58 Hate, anger, lust, lying, bigotry, white, 00:15:13.88\00:15:18.51 black and brown racism. 00:15:18.55\00:15:20.95 But people say, no, 00:15:20.98\00:15:22.78 I can understand a person being, 00:15:22.82\00:15:24.65 like you being a white racist 00:15:24.69\00:15:26.35 but it's impossible to be a black racist, 00:15:26.39\00:15:28.59 that's absurd. 00:15:28.62\00:15:30.33 Because if we cut open a black person 00:15:30.36\00:15:33.06 he's exactly the same inside as I am. 00:15:33.09\00:15:37.13 And the skin is simply something 00:15:37.17\00:15:39.17 that is very superficial. 00:15:39.20\00:15:42.40 And we are all born 00:15:42.44\00:15:45.14 with a tendency towards racism 00:15:45.17\00:15:48.48 whether we are white, brown, red or yellow, 00:15:48.51\00:15:51.25 whatever the color 00:15:51.28\00:15:52.61 because the heart of man is sinful. 00:15:52.65\00:15:57.35 And so you can see racism and racism is becoming 00:15:57.39\00:16:00.99 more of a problem in the United States of America. 00:16:01.02\00:16:05.16 And all parts of the race are equally guilty, I think. 00:16:05.19\00:16:09.03 You see, the intolerance, greed, 00:16:09.06\00:16:11.60 sexual provisions, slavery 00:16:11.63\00:16:14.40 which is on the increase. 00:16:14.44\00:16:15.77 There are most slaves today 00:16:15.80\00:16:18.04 than even in the days of the slave traders. 00:16:18.07\00:16:21.48 Violence, and perhaps the chief characteristic 00:16:21.51\00:16:26.45 or the chief identifying mark of sin 00:16:26.48\00:16:31.65 which lives in us 00:16:31.69\00:16:33.29 is our essential restlessness. 00:16:33.36\00:16:39.63 Now the great Roman Catholic St. Augustan said these words, 00:16:39.66\00:16:44.53 "Thou hast made us for thyself, 00:16:44.57\00:16:46.70 O Lord, and our heart is restless 00:16:46.74\00:16:50.21 until it finds its rest in Thee." 00:16:50.27\00:16:54.04 Or to put it in a more up-to-date phraseology, 00:16:54.08\00:16:59.41 "Our souls were made for God, 00:16:59.45\00:17:02.02 and they cannot rest until they rest in God." 00:17:02.05\00:17:05.55 And so when you look around the world today, 00:17:07.49\00:17:09.46 you see an all possessive sense of restlessness 00:17:09.49\00:17:14.96 and people are searching and searching, 00:17:15.00\00:17:17.27 and they cannot find it because they do not... 00:17:17.30\00:17:19.77 and they rushing off to their psychologist, 00:17:19.80\00:17:22.04 and psychiatrist, and psychoanalysis, 00:17:22.07\00:17:24.44 and every person under the sun, 00:17:24.47\00:17:26.11 and I don't suggest they stop doing that. 00:17:26.14\00:17:30.15 But they need to recognize 00:17:30.18\00:17:32.98 that our basic problem is not psychological, 00:17:33.01\00:17:36.55 our basic problem is spiritual problem. 00:17:36.58\00:17:40.56 Man naturally is empty inside. 00:17:40.59\00:17:44.96 Doctor Billy Graham talks about 00:17:45.46\00:17:47.40 going somewhere years and years ago 00:17:47.40\00:17:49.46 to run a campaign in this great United States of America. 00:17:49.50\00:17:53.54 And he spoke to one of the leaders 00:17:53.60\00:17:55.17 of the Hollywood industry 00:17:55.20\00:17:57.01 and he said, "Dr. Graham, 00:17:57.07\00:17:59.14 I would love to come and hear you preach tonight, 00:17:59.17\00:18:01.31 " but he said, "I cant get out this," he said, 00:18:01.34\00:18:04.18 "because I'm desperately empty inside." 00:18:04.21\00:18:08.02 And he was one of the comedians of Hollywood. 00:18:08.05\00:18:11.45 And the reason that we need so many comedians today 00:18:11.49\00:18:14.36 is because we are searching and searching and searching 00:18:14.39\00:18:19.59 and not finding, 00:18:19.63\00:18:20.96 because we are looking in the wrong place. 00:18:20.96\00:18:24.80 We are empty inside, we have a black hole inside. 00:18:24.83\00:18:27.97 And we try to fill the black hole with drugs, 00:18:28.00\00:18:31.37 alcohol, illicit sex, consumerism. 00:18:31.41\00:18:36.85 That's why television commercials 00:18:36.88\00:18:38.98 are so anonymously successful, 00:18:39.01\00:18:41.82 because they appeal sin inside. 00:18:41.85\00:18:45.29 We need more stuff, comedy, violent games, and movies. 00:18:45.32\00:18:50.66 And violent games, 00:18:50.73\00:18:53.13 and pornography, and searching, 00:18:53.16\00:18:55.53 and people can't get to the next sale fast enough, 00:18:55.56\00:19:00.37 and they got to, 00:19:00.40\00:19:01.74 because it gives them high for a little bit. 00:19:01.77\00:19:05.97 And the television people understand this far better 00:19:06.01\00:19:08.24 than anybody else, they know that we need to have a high 00:19:08.28\00:19:12.81 even if we're playing video games. 00:19:12.85\00:19:17.12 And it has been said today, 00:19:17.15\00:19:18.49 one of the biggest problem in America 00:19:18.52\00:19:19.85 and the rest of the world 00:19:19.89\00:19:21.69 is the ubiquitous cell phones, 00:19:22.79\00:19:27.76 where by we cannot live without it. 00:19:27.83\00:19:30.70 Even people who go into the church, 00:19:30.77\00:19:32.43 and they cannot live without it, 00:19:32.47\00:19:33.87 they got be texting all the time. 00:19:33.94\00:19:36.57 And you see people, it is... 00:19:36.60\00:19:38.94 Listen, it is a sickness, it is a sickness. 00:19:38.97\00:19:42.91 It is a symptom of our emptiness. 00:19:42.94\00:19:45.88 And you see the people going to restaurant 00:19:45.91\00:19:47.88 and they sit opposite each other 00:19:47.92\00:19:49.65 and they don't talk but they have cell phones, 00:19:49.68\00:19:52.02 and they are doing this on their cell phones. 00:19:52.05\00:19:55.09 They even communicating with the people 00:19:55.12\00:19:56.86 across the table with the cell phone. 00:19:56.93\00:19:59.33 And driving has became almost a paralysis occupation 00:20:01.80\00:20:04.73 here in Southern California because you see people texting, 00:20:04.77\00:20:08.64 actually texting as they're driving. 00:20:08.67\00:20:11.77 They are addicted to it as much as a person 00:20:11.81\00:20:15.28 is addicted to alcohol or heroin. 00:20:15.31\00:20:20.02 It is the symptom of the emptiness, 00:20:20.08\00:20:25.42 it is the symptom of the hole that is within us. 00:20:25.45\00:20:29.06 Remember, our souls were made for God, 00:20:29.09\00:20:31.23 and they cannot rest until they rest in Him. 00:20:31.26\00:20:36.30 Now what I'm telling you today is the teaching 00:20:36.33\00:20:38.93 that has been taught by the greatest thinkers, 00:20:38.97\00:20:42.14 and theologians, and photospheres 00:20:42.17\00:20:44.37 in the history of the human race. 00:20:44.41\00:20:46.81 We have a problem, it is true. 00:20:46.84\00:20:50.51 But our problem is the sin problem. 00:20:50.58\00:20:53.45 They say, you know, I like to read, 00:20:53.48\00:20:56.92 keep up whether it's science or economics or anything, 00:20:56.95\00:21:00.59 and I read and people say, 00:21:00.66\00:21:01.99 well, we got to have more laws pass. 00:21:02.02\00:21:04.69 We got to have the president involve, 00:21:04.73\00:21:06.39 and we got to outlaw racism. 00:21:06.43\00:21:10.43 You can't outlaw the human heart. 00:21:10.47\00:21:13.00 We got a fix Baltimore, 00:21:13.03\00:21:15.70 we got to fix this place 00:21:15.74\00:21:17.07 and we got a pour billions and billions... 00:21:17.11\00:21:19.04 did you know, this country has poured more money 00:21:19.07\00:21:22.18 into trying to outlaw poverty than the rest of the world 00:21:22.21\00:21:25.61 in the history of the human race? 00:21:25.65\00:21:28.12 And we should try to outlaw poverty. 00:21:28.15\00:21:30.25 But throwing money at a problem does not solve it. 00:21:30.29\00:21:35.36 We seem to think, no, we can solve every problem 00:21:35.39\00:21:37.63 if we throw enough money at it. 00:21:37.66\00:21:40.26 But the problem is not economics 00:21:40.30\00:21:42.36 and the problem is not in racism. 00:21:42.40\00:21:44.23 If we were throwing money at the problem 00:21:44.27\00:21:45.93 then we have no racism left in America. 00:21:45.97\00:21:49.07 But we got more racism today 00:21:49.10\00:21:50.87 than in the history of the United States. 00:21:50.91\00:21:54.81 And money is not the solution, and let me tell you, 00:21:54.84\00:21:57.08 speeches by politicians, 00:21:57.11\00:22:00.15 that is not the solutions either. 00:22:00.22\00:22:03.08 The problem is sin and Christ is the solution. 00:22:03.12\00:22:08.29 Sin is deadly and humanly incurable. 00:22:08.32\00:22:13.09 I want you to look at Romans 6:23, 00:22:13.13\00:22:15.16 and you know that what I'm saying is true. 00:22:15.20\00:22:18.03 You know, you know it's true. 00:22:18.07\00:22:19.67 Romans 6:23. 00:22:19.70\00:22:22.64 Romans 6:23, the first bit, 00:22:22.67\00:22:26.41 "For the wages of sin is death." 00:22:26.44\00:22:30.01 We're going to read the rest in a moment. 00:22:30.05\00:22:32.01 Sin is deadly, "The wages of sin is death." 00:22:33.05\00:22:38.42 Years ago, I heard about a lady doctor 00:22:38.45\00:22:42.09 who was works in Africa. 00:22:42.12\00:22:44.83 She was a medical missionary, best sort of people. 00:22:44.86\00:22:48.56 She was a Baptist. 00:22:48.60\00:22:51.10 And she was working 00:22:51.13\00:22:52.47 in the little village of Lasa. 00:22:52.50\00:22:56.27 And they discovered that a plague had broken out 00:22:56.30\00:22:58.81 among the people there, and they would get the fever, 00:22:58.84\00:23:02.08 ulcers, back of their throat, pounding head, 00:23:02.11\00:23:06.55 and I think, on the fourth or the fifth day they die. 00:23:06.58\00:23:09.52 They could do nothing for them. 00:23:09.55\00:23:11.19 So this lady carried out a postmortem. 00:23:11.49\00:23:17.36 Because they want to send the tissues 00:23:17.43\00:23:19.46 back to the United States of America 00:23:19.49\00:23:21.36 and find out what this demon from hell was. 00:23:21.40\00:23:25.00 And as she was doing the postmortem, 00:23:25.03\00:23:27.84 the knife slipped and she nicked the finger. 00:23:27.87\00:23:31.71 She ran over to the tap and turned it on hard 00:23:31.74\00:23:35.28 and washed her hands with soap, 00:23:35.31\00:23:39.38 but a few days later she got a headache, 00:23:39.41\00:23:42.52 ulcers at the back of the throat, 00:23:42.55\00:23:44.99 and on the fourth day she died. 00:23:45.02\00:23:47.86 There was a demon from the hell lose upon the world, 00:23:47.89\00:23:51.66 if it got out on the streets of New York, 00:23:51.69\00:23:53.76 nobody would live. 00:23:53.80\00:23:56.70 They discovered later, its spread by rats. 00:23:56.73\00:24:00.17 It is still living today in the jungle of Africa. 00:24:00.24\00:24:04.34 It is like sin, it is deadly. 00:24:04.37\00:24:10.35 But the Bible teaches 00:24:10.38\00:24:12.88 that while we all have a problem, 00:24:12.91\00:24:15.12 whether you go to church or not, we all have a problem. 00:24:15.15\00:24:19.42 And the problem is sin problem. 00:24:19.45\00:24:22.19 The Bible tells us that there is a cure 00:24:22.22\00:24:24.56 for the sin problem. 00:24:24.59\00:24:26.83 Would you look at Romans 6:23, the second part. 00:24:26.90\00:24:30.83 First part we'll read it again, 00:24:30.87\00:24:32.27 it says "For the wages of sin is death." 00:24:32.30\00:24:35.67 If you hold on to the sin or if sin holds on to you, 00:24:35.70\00:24:38.71 the bible says, you're going to die. 00:24:38.74\00:24:41.98 "For the wages of sin is death, 00:24:42.01\00:24:43.85 but the gift of God is eternal life 00:24:43.91\00:24:47.48 in Christ Jesus our Lord." 00:24:47.52\00:24:51.19 The bible teaches this, 00:24:51.22\00:24:52.89 and we're going to talk about this 00:24:52.92\00:24:54.36 in the next part of the program, 00:24:54.39\00:24:57.83 that even though we have an incurable problem, 00:24:57.86\00:25:00.46 humanly speaking, it's incurable. 00:25:00.53\00:25:03.87 The Bible teaches that the gift of God 00:25:03.90\00:25:07.70 is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. 00:25:07.74\00:25:11.81 We are going to discover in the second part, 00:25:11.84\00:25:14.18 the next program, that the creator God 00:25:14.21\00:25:17.88 who made the stars and who made the universe, 00:25:17.91\00:25:20.42 this is an incomprehensible idea. 00:25:20.45\00:25:23.49 Richard Dawkins said, what a childish idea. 00:25:23.52\00:25:27.92 What a childish man. 00:25:27.96\00:25:31.83 But the Bible teaches the idea 00:25:31.86\00:25:34.36 that the almighty God became incarnate. 00:25:34.40\00:25:37.83 The one who made the universe became a man. 00:25:37.87\00:25:42.74 And when he became a man, he grapples with sin,
