Well, I'm glad to see you today. 00:00:13.48\00:00:15.41 The topic is The Search For Happiness. 00:00:15.44\00:00:21.28 Many years ago, 00:00:21.32\00:00:23.05 before most of you folks were born. 00:00:23.08\00:00:26.96 Beverley and I were out driving in northern New South Wales. 00:00:26.99\00:00:33.06 Does that confusion? 00:00:33.09\00:00:34.43 It's Wales, you know, sort of part of the UK. 00:00:34.46\00:00:39.07 Then there's Northern Wales. 00:00:39.10\00:00:40.90 Well, this is North New South Wales. 00:00:40.94\00:00:45.84 And we were driving near a little town, 00:00:45.87\00:00:48.04 this will confusion you too, by the name of Mullumbimby. 00:00:48.08\00:00:50.91 If there's anybody watching the telecast from Mullumbimby, 00:00:50.95\00:00:53.82 just want to say hello to you. 00:00:54.05\00:00:56.05 But as we were driving along there was a beautiful girl 00:00:56.08\00:00:58.55 standing beside the road. 00:00:58.59\00:01:00.66 And she was thumbing up, 00:01:00.69\00:01:02.36 you know, she was hitch-hiking. 00:01:02.39\00:01:04.06 And so we pulled up and we said, 00:01:04.09\00:01:05.43 "Where are you going?" 00:01:05.46\00:01:06.80 She said, "I'm on the way to happiness." 00:01:06.83\00:01:10.33 And so we put her in the car and I said her, 00:01:10.37\00:01:13.70 "Where is the way to happiness?" 00:01:13.74\00:01:15.07 She said "Down at Byron Bay." 00:01:15.10\00:01:17.84 And the people who come from Byron Bay 00:01:17.87\00:01:19.84 know exactly what I'm talking about. 00:01:19.87\00:01:21.74 That's the pot capital of Australia. 00:01:21.78\00:01:24.85 It's a bit of Colorado. 00:01:24.88\00:01:26.21 And so she said, "I'm going up to Byron Bay, 00:01:29.65\00:01:32.75 at the back of the Byron Bay, not Byron Bay itself, 00:01:32.79\00:01:35.36 but up in the mountains" because she said, 00:01:35.39\00:01:38.39 "We're going to be free from all restrained." 00:01:38.89\00:01:42.06 A beautiful girl, and she said, 00:01:42.10\00:01:44.63 "I'm empty inside but I'm searching for happiness." 00:01:44.67\00:01:50.37 Never saw her again, obviously. 00:01:50.41\00:01:53.27 But it is true that the whole world 00:01:53.31\00:01:55.24 is searching for a creed to believe, 00:01:55.28\00:02:00.15 and a song to sing. 00:02:00.18\00:02:03.05 I want to notice the words of the most influential person 00:02:03.08\00:02:09.29 who ever lived. 00:02:09.32\00:02:11.03 And that is Christ. 00:02:11.06\00:02:12.39 Would you please turn in your bible 00:02:12.43\00:02:14.23 to John 10:10, 00:02:14.26\00:02:18.93 the words of the most influential person 00:02:18.97\00:02:23.97 who ever lived in history of the human race. 00:02:24.01\00:02:26.44 John 10:10, and Jesus said, 00:02:26.47\00:02:31.25 "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, 00:02:31.28\00:02:37.15 and to destroy." 00:02:37.19\00:02:38.52 There are lots of thieves, my friend. 00:02:38.55\00:02:40.96 "I have come that they may have life." 00:02:40.99\00:02:43.06 What did he say? 00:02:43.09\00:02:44.43 "That they may have it more abundantly." 00:02:44.46\00:02:47.83 The Jesus said, 00:02:47.86\00:02:51.03 I've come to this world. 00:02:51.07\00:02:53.00 He said, it's a pretty dark place, 00:02:53.03\00:02:55.30 but I've come into this place to show you 00:02:55.34\00:02:58.84 the path to happiness. 00:02:58.87\00:03:03.01 Every person under the sun knows that we have a problem. 00:03:03.04\00:03:09.18 The human race got a problem and thus the hippy girl was, 00:03:09.22\00:03:13.32 you know, up there on the hills, 00:03:13.36\00:03:16.32 going to the place behind Byron Bay 00:03:16.36\00:03:19.39 searching for the happiness. 00:03:19.43\00:03:21.40 Every year in this great country, 00:03:21.43\00:03:23.97 the United States of America, 00:03:24.00\00:03:26.30 42,773 people say that, life, I can't take it anymore, 00:03:26.33\00:03:33.07 and they commit suicide, including Hollywood stars. 00:03:33.11\00:03:39.21 In fact, I'm told over the last few years 00:03:39.25\00:03:41.72 the rate of suicide in the United States of America 00:03:42.32\00:03:45.09 is up some, I think it's... 00:03:45.12\00:03:48.06 my memory is working today, 40 percent. 00:03:48.09\00:03:53.09 More than a million Americans every year 00:03:53.13\00:03:56.33 tried to take their own lives, 00:03:56.36\00:03:59.47 including some of the glamorous and the beautiful people 00:03:59.50\00:04:04.21 that you see on the television. 00:04:04.24\00:04:07.84 The question is, 00:04:07.88\00:04:09.84 what is the root cause of the deadly malaise, 00:04:09.88\00:04:14.25 and all pervading sense of discontent and hopelessness? 00:04:14.28\00:04:20.26 Have you heard the story of the man 00:04:20.29\00:04:21.96 who went alone to see his physiologist? 00:04:21.99\00:04:25.69 And he said, "I'm is terribly depressed, 00:04:25.73\00:04:27.60 I don't see any purpose in living. 00:04:27.63\00:04:30.03 I just feel like ending at all." 00:04:30.07\00:04:32.37 The physiologist said, "Well, look," he said, 00:04:32.40\00:04:34.04 "we all get the blues." 00:04:34.07\00:04:35.90 He said, "Did you know the circus has come to town?" 00:04:35.94\00:04:38.67 And he said, "They have a marvelous clown." 00:04:38.71\00:04:41.61 He said, "He is the funniest clown 00:04:41.64\00:04:44.28 that you'll ever seen anywhere in the world." 00:04:44.31\00:04:46.48 He said, "I went along to see the clown 00:04:46.51\00:04:48.72 just the other night. 00:04:48.75\00:04:50.09 And I laughed, and I laughed, and I laughed." 00:04:50.12\00:04:52.75 He said to the man, 00:04:52.79\00:04:54.12 "You ought to go and see the clown." 00:04:54.16\00:04:56.49 The man said, "Doctor, I am the clown." 00:04:56.52\00:04:59.63 So the whole world, we know, 00:05:03.37\00:05:05.00 is searching for a creed to believe 00:05:05.03\00:05:08.94 and for a song to sing. 00:05:08.97\00:05:12.54 There has been various solutions 00:05:14.84\00:05:17.58 that has been proposed 00:05:17.65\00:05:19.88 and one solution was given to us by a very famous man, 00:05:19.91\00:05:24.02 he was a German Jew. 00:05:24.05\00:05:26.22 Some of the great thinkers, German Jews. 00:05:26.25\00:05:28.39 His name was Karl Marx. 00:05:28.42\00:05:33.73 You've all heard about the Karl Marx? 00:05:33.76\00:05:35.50 He gave his communism, he gave his Marxism, 00:05:35.53\00:05:38.30 he said "Religion is the impotence 00:05:38.33\00:05:42.70 of the human mind to deal with occurrences 00:05:42.74\00:05:47.08 it cannot understand." 00:05:47.11\00:05:50.21 He said, we are religious 00:05:50.25\00:05:51.65 because we just can't work things out. 00:05:51.68\00:05:55.08 He believed in the class struggle. 00:05:55.12\00:05:58.25 We hear these all the times today, 00:05:58.29\00:06:00.49 the rich against the poor, 00:06:00.52\00:06:02.96 and the problem of pure capitalism. 00:06:02.99\00:06:06.83 You will remember the book Animal Farm 00:06:06.86\00:06:09.50 by George Orwell. 00:06:09.53\00:06:11.93 In the book the communist said, all animals are equal 00:06:11.97\00:06:15.74 but some animals are more equal. 00:06:15.77\00:06:18.47 And they discovered that the animals 00:06:18.51\00:06:20.91 were most equal in the Soviet Union 00:06:20.94\00:06:23.14 were the pigs. 00:06:23.18\00:06:27.12 And so the Marxism is an attempt 00:06:27.15\00:06:30.25 to solve the problem, 00:06:30.29\00:06:32.45 the malaise that afflicts the human heart. 00:06:32.49\00:06:36.66 Didn't see it worked very well at all. 00:06:36.69\00:06:38.46 He also said, 00:06:38.49\00:06:39.83 religion is the opium of the people. 00:06:39.86\00:06:43.40 When you think of Russia, the atheist, 00:06:43.43\00:06:46.57 the communist put to death in Russia 00:06:46.60\00:06:48.90 around 50 million people. 00:06:49.30\00:06:51.74 It's not a very good advertisement for communism. 00:06:51.77\00:06:54.74 Not a very good advert... 00:06:54.78\00:06:56.11 and especially, when you discover in American, 00:06:56.14\00:06:58.48 today people are thinking 00:06:58.51\00:07:00.22 communism may be the solution to the problem. 00:07:00.25\00:07:03.28 Fifty million people were murdered by the communist. 00:07:03.32\00:07:07.39 And then if you go to China, the days of Mao, 00:07:07.42\00:07:10.13 tens of millions were put into death there. 00:07:10.49\00:07:12.26 Then in Cambodia, it's unspeakable, 00:07:12.29\00:07:15.33 the millions of people who were put into death 00:07:15.36\00:07:17.37 because they were considered to be less than animals. 00:07:17.40\00:07:22.50 Another man who had a tremendous impact 00:07:22.54\00:07:24.47 upon the human race was Freud. 00:07:24.51\00:07:27.41 He was an Australian Jew. 00:07:27.44\00:07:30.48 He said, "Our problems are purely psychological, 00:07:30.51\00:07:33.92 " not so much economical and political, as mark said. 00:07:33.95\00:07:36.48 But Freud said, psychological. 00:07:36.52\00:07:39.25 And most of our urges have got to do 00:07:39.29\00:07:43.09 with our sexuality. 00:07:43.12\00:07:46.46 He was the person who discovered or rather 00:07:46.49\00:07:48.63 who implemented psychoanalysis. 00:07:48.66\00:07:51.97 He said, "Religion is an illusion 00:07:52.00\00:07:57.31 and it derives it's strength from the fact that it falls in 00:07:57.34\00:08:01.11 with our instinctual desires 00:08:01.14\00:08:05.28 and our drives." 00:08:05.31\00:08:08.68 We've all got these hidden passions, 00:08:08.72\00:08:12.35 and the solution is psychoanalysis. 00:08:12.39\00:08:18.99 Perhaps, the philosopher 00:08:19.03\00:08:20.56 who has influenced America and the world 00:08:20.60\00:08:23.03 more than anybody else is the great German philosopher 00:08:23.06\00:08:27.14 who wanted to become a pastor, Nietzsche. 00:08:27.17\00:08:32.01 He was born in the year that some would say 00:08:32.04\00:08:34.58 was quite significant, he was born in 1844 00:08:34.61\00:08:39.48 and he died of syphilis in 1900. 00:08:39.51\00:08:42.95 And when nobody else would take care of this man 00:08:42.98\00:08:45.62 who hated Christianity, 00:08:45.65\00:08:47.32 he was taking care of by his Christian mother 00:08:47.36\00:08:50.46 and his sister. 00:08:50.49\00:08:51.99 He thought that weakness is evil 00:08:52.03\00:08:56.43 and that power is good. 00:08:56.46\00:08:59.13 He said, "You have your way. I have my way. 00:08:59.17\00:09:02.54 As for the right way, the correct way, 00:09:02.57\00:09:05.11 and the only way, it does not exist." 00:09:05.14\00:09:09.24 It said that the Fuhrer, 00:09:09.28\00:09:11.21 Hitler slept with the copy of the Antichrist 00:09:11.25\00:09:16.05 under his pillow. 00:09:16.08\00:09:18.39 He believed that might was right 00:09:18.42\00:09:22.16 and the emergence of the super race. 00:09:22.19\00:09:25.39 Listen to these statements, almost too hard to believe. 00:09:25.43\00:09:28.86 "All superior men who were irresistibly drawn 00:09:28.90\00:09:32.80 to throw off the yoke of any kind of morality 00:09:32.83\00:09:36.37 and to frame new laws had, 00:09:36.40\00:09:39.87 if they were not actually mad, no alternative 00:09:39.91\00:09:43.65 but to make themselves or pretend to be mad. 00:09:43.68\00:09:48.75 " So this is the person who has influenced American, 00:09:48.78\00:09:53.09 British, and German, and Australian, 00:09:53.12\00:09:55.42 and all the great universities, 00:09:55.46\00:09:57.83 more than any other person in history. 00:09:57.86\00:10:01.70 Nietzsche, he set out to be a pastor. 00:10:01.73\00:10:05.43 Then a person, perhaps, 00:10:05.47\00:10:06.80 who was even more famous than Nietzsche 00:10:06.84\00:10:09.20 is Charles Darwin, 00:10:09.24\00:10:11.34 who also set out to become a Christian pastor 00:10:11.37\00:10:15.48 because he belong to the church of England. 00:10:15.51\00:10:18.81 He said, "One general law, 00:10:18.85\00:10:22.55 leading to the advancement of all organic beings... 00:10:22.58\00:10:26.76 let the strongest live and let the weakest die." 00:10:26.79\00:10:33.13 Now we should not think for a moment, 00:10:33.16\00:10:35.46 that Darwin was a bad man, 00:10:35.96\00:10:39.70 he was a kind and a decent man. 00:10:39.73\00:10:43.20 He only became an evolutionist, 00:10:43.24\00:10:49.01 and eventually an Aesthesis, or the very best an agnostic 00:10:49.04\00:10:53.28 after he prayed to God to save his daughter. 00:10:53.31\00:10:56.62 And when his daughter died, he said, 00:10:57.99\00:11:00.49 this is the proof that there is no God. 00:11:00.52\00:11:03.86 He said this, hard to believe, he said this, 00:11:03.89\00:11:07.93 "It's the origin of the species, 00:11:07.96\00:11:10.17 it's a mere rag of a hypotheses with as many flaws 00:11:10.20\00:11:14.90 and holes a sound pots." 00:11:14.94\00:11:20.41 Therefore, the idea of the evolution 00:11:20.44\00:11:23.04 is not a scientific idea, 00:11:23.08\00:11:25.21 it is a philosophy of choice, if there is no God. 00:11:25.25\00:11:31.62 He taught of cause, that life has developed 00:11:31.65\00:11:33.59 purely by chance. 00:11:33.62\00:11:36.16 Neo-Darwinist like Richard Dawkins say, 00:11:36.19\00:11:39.06 there is no meaning, no God and no design. 00:11:39.09\00:11:43.87 A famous evolutionist, 00:11:43.90\00:11:47.74 Philip Adams made this statement, 00:11:47.77\00:11:51.24 can you believe it. 00:11:51.27\00:11:52.61 "We are as significant 00:11:52.64\00:11:55.04 as the eighth billionth grain of sand 00:11:55.08\00:11:59.08 beyond the final palm tree in the most distant oasis 00:11:59.11\00:12:04.29 in the Sahara." 00:12:04.32\00:12:07.56 Let see, end result of cause, of atheism 00:12:07.59\00:12:11.13 and evolution though, I would say this quickly, 00:12:11.16\00:12:14.56 not all evolutionists are atheists. 00:12:14.60\00:12:18.97 There are the theistic evolutionists 00:12:19.00\00:12:21.17 who are Christians, such as Francis Collins, 00:12:21.20\00:12:26.01 who wrote the remarkable book The Language of God. 00:12:26.04\00:12:29.71 But pure Darwinism is atheistic 00:12:29.74\00:12:32.81 to the heart. 00:12:32.85\00:12:34.18 It teaches this, listen, 00:12:34.22\00:12:35.78 nothing produced everything, 00:12:35.82\00:12:40.39 non-life produced life, 00:12:40.42\00:12:43.49 randomness produced fine-tuning. 00:12:43.53\00:12:47.43 Chaos produced information, 00:12:47.46\00:12:51.17 unconscious produced conscious, 00:12:51.20\00:12:54.27 and non-reason produce reason. 00:12:54.30\00:12:57.51 Let us be honest. 00:12:57.54\00:13:01.38 Such an idea is totally unscientific, unattainable, 00:13:01.41\00:13:04.91 and some would say a form of madness. 00:13:04.95\00:13:08.78 A form of madness. 00:13:08.82\00:13:11.55 And so these are some of the worldviews 00:13:11.59\00:13:13.56 I presented to you today, 00:13:13.59\00:13:14.92 but I believe they would not hold water. 00:13:14.96\00:13:18.66 Today, I want to present the Christian worldview 00:13:18.69\00:13:22.46 based on the Holy Scriptures. 00:13:22.50\00:13:25.33 And the bible teaches that first and foremost 00:13:25.37\00:13:28.57 our problem is not psychological, 00:13:28.60\00:13:31.47 it is not political, or economic, or sexual, 00:13:31.51\00:13:36.24 or any those things. 00:13:36.28\00:13:37.61 The bible teaches 00:13:37.65\00:13:38.98 that basically our problem is spiritual. 00:13:39.01\00:13:43.12 Would you please turn in your Bible 00:13:43.15\00:13:44.62 to the Romans 3:23. 00:13:44.65\00:13:49.56 Turning to Romans 3, 00:13:49.59\00:13:52.86 by the great Jewish theologian Paul. 00:13:52.89\00:13:56.67 The bible says, "For all have sinned 00:13:56.70\00:14:01.50 and fall short of the glory of God." 00:14:01.54\00:14:05.07 So the teaching of the bible 00:14:05.11\00:14:06.98 is that our problem is basically a spiritual problem 00:14:07.01\00:14:11.08 and it has to do with sin. 00:14:11.11\00:14:15.45 The hardest truth for any person, 00:14:15.48\00:14:17.55 whether he is a Darwinist or psychoanalyst, or Marxist, 00:14:17.59\00:14:23.56 is to recognize that our problem is sin. 00:14:23.59\00:14:28.53 It was only after, could you believe this, 00:14:28.56\00:14:31.50 it was only after 9/11 that many American philosophers 00:14:31.53\00:14:36.94 in our best universities considered the facts 00:14:36.97\00:14:39.97 that there was evil in the world. 00:14:40.01\00:14:43.98 Well, you see, if ultimately, 00:14:44.01\00:14:46.38 and you got to be honest in your thinking. 00:14:46.41\00:14:49.18 And the problem is with many people, 00:14:49.22\00:14:50.59 they are not honest in their thinking, 00:14:50.62\00:14:52.19 but they are carried away by their emotions. 00:14:52.22\00:14:55.19 But if there is no God, there is no good, you see. 00:14:55.22\00:15:00.43 There is no right and there is no right... 00:15:00.46\00:15:03.20 There is no right and no wrong 00:15:03.23\00:15:05.73 if these men are right. 00:15:05.77\00:15:08.20 The evidence of sin is everywhere apparent, 00:15:08.24\00:15:11.97 my friends, think about it. 00:15:12.01\00:15:13.58 Hate, anger, lust, lying, bigotry, white, 00:15:13.88\00:15:18.55 black and brown racism. 00:15:18.58\00:15:20.98 But people say, no, 00:15:21.02\00:15:22.82 I can understand a person being, 00:15:22.85\00:15:24.69 like you being a white racist 00:15:24.72\00:15:26.39 but it's impossible to be a black racist, 00:15:26.42\00:15:28.62 that's absurd. 00:15:28.66\00:15:30.33 Because if we cut open a black person 00:15:30.36\00:15:33.09 he's exactly the same inside as I am. 00:15:33.13\00:15:37.20 And the skin is simply something 00:15:37.23\00:15:39.23 that is very superficial. 00:15:39.27\00:15:42.47 And we are all born 00:15:42.50\00:15:45.21 with a tendency towards racism 00:15:45.24\00:15:48.54 whether we are white, brown, red or yellow, 00:15:48.58\00:15:51.31 whatever the color 00:15:51.35\00:15:52.68 because the heart of man is sinful. 00:15:52.71\00:15:57.42 And so you can see racism and racism is becoming 00:15:57.45\00:16:00.99 more of a problem in the United States of America. 00:16:01.02\00:16:05.16 And all parts of the race are equally guilty, I think. 00:16:05.19\00:16:09.06 You see, the intolerance, greed, 00:16:09.10\00:16:11.63 sexual provisions, slavery 00:16:11.67\00:16:14.44 which is on the increase. 00:16:14.47\00:16:15.80 There are most slaves today 00:16:15.84\00:16:18.07 than even in the days of the slave traders. 00:16:18.11\00:16:21.51 Violence, and perhaps the chief characteristic 00:16:21.54\00:16:26.48 or the chief identifying mark of sin 00:16:26.51\00:16:31.69 which lives in us 00:16:31.72\00:16:33.32 is our essential restlessness. 00:16:33.36\00:16:39.66 Now the great Roman Catholic St. Augustan said these words, 00:16:39.69\00:16:44.60 "Thou hast made us for thyself, 00:16:44.63\00:16:46.77 O Lord, and our heart is restless 00:16:46.80\00:16:50.27 until it finds its rest in Thee." 00:16:50.31\00:16:54.08 Or to put it in a more up-to-date phraseology, 00:16:54.11\00:16:59.48 "Our souls were made for God, 00:16:59.51\00:17:02.02 and they cannot rest until they rest in God." 00:17:02.05\00:17:05.55 And so when you look around the world today, 00:17:07.46\00:17:09.46 you see an all possessive sense of restlessness 00:17:09.49\00:17:15.00 and people are searching and searching, 00:17:15.03\00:17:17.27 and they cannot find it because they do not... 00:17:17.30\00:17:19.80 and they rushing off to their psychologist, 00:17:19.83\00:17:22.07 and psychiatrist, and psychoanalysis, 00:17:22.10\00:17:24.47 and every person under the sun, 00:17:24.51\00:17:26.14 and I don't suggest they stop doing that. 00:17:26.17\00:17:30.15 But they need to recognize 00:17:30.18\00:17:33.01 that our basic problem is not psychological, 00:17:33.05\00:17:36.58 our basic problem is spiritual problem. 00:17:36.62\00:17:40.59 Man naturally is empty inside. 00:17:40.62\00:17:44.99 Doctor Billy Graham talks about 00:17:45.49\00:17:47.40 going somewhere years and years ago 00:17:47.43\00:17:49.53 to run a campaign in this great United States of America. 00:17:49.56\00:17:53.60 And he spoke to one of the leaders 00:17:53.64\00:17:55.24 of the Hollywood industry 00:17:55.27\00:17:57.07 and he said, "Dr. Graham, 00:17:57.11\00:17:59.21 I would love to come and hear you preach tonight, 00:17:59.24\00:18:01.31 " but he said, "I cant get out this," he said, 00:18:01.34\00:18:04.15 "because I'm desperately empty inside." 00:18:04.18\00:18:08.02 And he was one of the comedians of Hollywood. 00:18:08.05\00:18:11.45 And the reason that we need so many comedians today 00:18:11.49\00:18:14.36 is because we are searching and searching and searching 00:18:14.39\00:18:19.59 and not finding, 00:18:19.63\00:18:20.96 because we are looking in the wrong place. 00:18:21.00\00:18:24.83 We are empty inside, we have a black hole inside. 00:18:24.87\00:18:28.00 And we try to fill the black hole with drugs, 00:18:28.04\00:18:31.41 alcohol, illicit sex, consumerism. 00:18:31.44\00:18:36.88 That's why television commercials 00:18:36.91\00:18:39.01 are so anonymously successful, 00:18:39.05\00:18:41.85 because they appeal sin inside. 00:18:41.88\00:18:45.32 We need more stuff, comedy, violent games, and movies. 00:18:45.35\00:18:50.69 And violent games, 00:18:50.73\00:18:53.16 and pornography, and searching, 00:18:53.19\00:18:55.60 and people can't get to the next sale fast enough, 00:18:55.63\00:19:00.37 and they got to, 00:19:00.40\00:19:01.74 because it gives them high for a little bit. 00:19:01.77\00:19:05.97 And the television people understand this far better 00:19:06.01\00:19:08.24 than anybody else, they know that we need to have a high 00:19:08.28\00:19:12.81 even if we're playing video games. 00:19:12.85\00:19:17.12 And it has been said today, 00:19:17.15\00:19:18.49 one of the biggest problem in America 00:19:18.52\00:19:19.85 and the rest of the world 00:19:19.89\00:19:21.69 is the ubiquitous cell phones, 00:19:22.79\00:19:27.80 where by we cannot live without it. 00:19:27.83\00:19:30.73 Even people who go into the church, 00:19:30.77\00:19:32.47 and they cannot live without it, 00:19:32.50\00:19:33.90 they got be texting all the time. 00:19:33.94\00:19:36.60 And you see people, it is... 00:19:36.64\00:19:38.97 Listen, it is a sickness, it is a sickness. 00:19:39.01\00:19:42.94 It is a symptom of our emptiness. 00:19:42.98\00:19:45.91 And you see the people going to restaurant 00:19:45.95\00:19:47.92 and they sit opposite each other 00:19:47.95\00:19:49.68 and they don't talk but they have cell phones, 00:19:49.72\00:19:52.05 and they are doing this on their cell phones. 00:19:52.09\00:19:55.12 They even communicating with the people 00:19:55.16\00:19:56.89 across the table with the cell phone. 00:19:56.93\00:19:59.36 And driving has became almost a paralysis occupation 00:20:01.86\00:20:04.80 here in Southern California because you see people texting, 00:20:04.83\00:20:08.70 actually texting as they're driving. 00:20:08.74\00:20:11.84 They are addicted to it as much as a person 00:20:11.87\00:20:15.34 is addicted to alcohol or heroin. 00:20:15.38\00:20:20.08 It is the symptom of the emptiness, 00:20:20.12\00:20:25.49 it is the symptom of the hole that is within us. 00:20:25.52\00:20:29.12 Remember, our souls were made for God, 00:20:29.16\00:20:31.29 and they cannot rest until they rest in Him. 00:20:31.33\00:20:36.40 Now what I'm telling you today is the teaching 00:20:36.43\00:20:39.03 that has been taught by the greatest thinkers, 00:20:39.07\00:20:42.24 and theologians, and photospheres 00:20:42.27\00:20:44.47 in the history of the human race. 00:20:44.51\00:20:46.88 We have a problem, it is true. 00:20:46.91\00:20:50.61 But our problem is the sin problem. 00:20:50.65\00:20:53.52 They say, you know, I like to read, 00:20:53.55\00:20:56.99 keep up whether it's science or economics or anything, 00:20:57.02\00:21:00.62 and I read and people say, 00:21:00.66\00:21:01.99 well, we got to have more laws pass. 00:21:02.02\00:21:04.73 We got to have the president involve, 00:21:04.76\00:21:06.43 and we got to outlaw racism. 00:21:06.46\00:21:10.50 You can't outlaw the human heart. 00:21:10.53\00:21:13.07 We got a fix Baltimore, 00:21:13.10\00:21:15.77 we got to fix this place 00:21:15.80\00:21:17.14 and we got a pour billions and billions... 00:21:17.17\00:21:19.11 did you know, this country has poured more money 00:21:19.14\00:21:22.24 into trying to outlaw poverty than the rest of the world 00:21:22.28\00:21:25.68 in the history of the human race? 00:21:25.71\00:21:28.18 And we should try to outlaw poverty. 00:21:28.22\00:21:30.29 But throwing money at a problem does not solve it. 00:21:30.32\00:21:35.42 We seem to think, no, we can solve every problem 00:21:35.46\00:21:37.69 if we throw enough money at it. 00:21:37.73\00:21:40.33 But the problem is not economics 00:21:40.36\00:21:42.46 and the problem is not in racism. 00:21:42.50\00:21:44.33 If we were throwing money at the problem 00:21:44.37\00:21:46.03 then we have no racism left in America. 00:21:46.07\00:21:49.17 But we got more racism today 00:21:49.20\00:21:50.97 than in the history of the United States. 00:21:51.01\00:21:54.91 And money is not the solution, and let me tell you, 00:21:54.94\00:21:57.18 speeches by politicians, 00:21:57.21\00:22:00.18 that is not the solutions either. 00:22:00.22\00:22:03.12 The problem is sin and Christ is the solution. 00:22:03.15\00:22:08.32 Sin is deadly and humanly incurable. 00:22:08.36\00:22:13.13 I want you to look at Romans 6:23, 00:22:13.16\00:22:15.23 and you know that what I'm saying is true. 00:22:15.26\00:22:18.10 You know, you know it's true. 00:22:18.13\00:22:19.73 Romans 6:23. 00:22:19.77\00:22:22.70 Romans 6:23, the first bit, 00:22:22.74\00:22:26.47 "For the wages of sin is death." 00:22:26.51\00:22:30.08 We're going to read the rest in a moment. 00:22:30.11\00:22:32.08 Sin is deadly, "The wages of sin is death." 00:22:33.11\00:22:38.49 Years ago, I heard about a lady doctor 00:22:38.52\00:22:42.16 who was works in Africa. 00:22:42.19\00:22:44.89 She was a medical missionary, best sort of people. 00:22:44.93\00:22:48.66 She was a Baptist. 00:22:48.70\00:22:51.20 And she was working 00:22:51.23\00:22:52.57 in the little village of Lasa. 00:22:52.60\00:22:56.37 And they discovered that a plague had broken out 00:22:56.40\00:22:58.91 among the people there, and they would get the fever, 00:22:58.94\00:23:02.11 ulcers, back of their throat, pounding head, 00:23:02.14\00:23:06.58 and I think, on the fourth or the fifth day they die. 00:23:06.61\00:23:09.55 They could do nothing for them. 00:23:09.58\00:23:11.22 So this lady carried out a postmortem. 00:23:11.52\00:23:17.39 Because they want to send the tissues 00:23:17.43\00:23:19.49 back to the United States of America 00:23:19.53\00:23:21.43 and find out what this demon from hell was. 00:23:21.46\00:23:25.07 And as she was doing the postmortem, 00:23:25.10\00:23:27.90 the knife slipped and she nicked the finger. 00:23:27.94\00:23:31.77 She ran over to the tap and turned it on hard 00:23:31.81\00:23:35.34 and washed her hands with soap, 00:23:35.38\00:23:39.45 but a few days later she got a headache, 00:23:39.48\00:23:42.58 ulcers at the back of the throat, 00:23:42.62\00:23:45.05 and on the fourth day she died. 00:23:45.09\00:23:47.92 There was a demon from the hell lose upon the world, 00:23:47.96\00:23:51.73 if it got out on the streets of New York, 00:23:51.76\00:23:53.83 nobody would live. 00:23:53.86\00:23:56.77 They discovered later, its spread by rats. 00:23:56.80\00:24:00.20 It is still living today in the jungle of Africa. 00:24:00.24\00:24:04.37 It is like sin, it is deadly. 00:24:04.41\00:24:10.35 But the Bible teaches 00:24:10.38\00:24:12.91 that while we all have a problem, 00:24:12.95\00:24:15.15 whether you go to church or not, we all have a problem. 00:24:15.18\00:24:19.45 And the problem is sin problem. 00:24:19.49\00:24:22.22 The Bible tells us that there is a cure 00:24:22.26\00:24:24.59 for the sin problem. 00:24:24.63\00:24:26.86 Would you look at Romans 6:23, the second part. 00:24:26.90\00:24:30.90 First part we'll read it again, 00:24:30.93\00:24:32.33 it says "For the wages of sin is death." 00:24:32.37\00:24:35.74 If you hold on to the sin or if sin holds on to you, 00:24:35.77\00:24:38.77 the bible says, you're going to die. 00:24:38.81\00:24:42.04 "For the wages of sin is death, 00:24:42.08\00:24:43.91 but the gift of God is eternal life 00:24:43.95\00:24:47.52 in Christ Jesus our Lord." 00:24:47.55\00:24:51.25 The bible teaches this, 00:24:51.29\00:24:52.95 and we're going to talk about this 00:24:52.99\00:24:54.42 in the next part of the program, 00:24:54.46\00:24:57.89 that even though we have an incurable problem, 00:24:57.93\00:25:00.46 humanly speaking, it's incurable. 00:25:00.50\00:25:03.90 The Bible teaches that the gift of God 00:25:03.93\00:25:07.74 is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. 00:25:07.77\00:25:11.84 We are going to discover in the second part, 00:25:11.87\00:25:14.18 the next program, that the creator God 00:25:14.21\00:25:17.91 who made the stars and who made the universe, 00:25:17.95\00:25:20.42 this is an incomprehensible idea. 00:25:20.45\00:25:23.52 Richard Dawkins said, what a childish idea. 00:25:23.55\00:25:27.96 What a childish man. 00:25:27.99\00:25:31.86 But the Bible teaches the idea 00:25:31.89\00:25:34.43 that the almighty God became incarnate. 00:25:34.46\00:25:37.90 The one who made the universe became a man. 00:25:37.93\00:25:42.80 And when he became a man, he grapples with sin,
