Hello, friend. I am John Carter. 00:00:01.33\00:00:04.03 I've just come back from Russia. 00:00:04.07\00:00:06.53 It was my 43rd visit to that land. 00:00:06.57\00:00:10.94 I'm gonna tell you today about Putin's Russia. 00:00:10.97\00:00:14.84 And the amazing things I've found today 00:00:14.88\00:00:17.98 happening in Russia, 00:00:18.01\00:00:19.55 because I saw the power of God. 00:00:19.58\00:00:22.82 Welcome today to the Carter Report 00:00:22.85\00:00:25.15 and The Russian Experience. 00:00:25.19\00:00:28.46 Hello, friend, I am John Carter here in Russia. 00:00:31.29\00:00:35.53 It is a cold day. 00:00:35.56\00:00:38.27 This is my 43rd visit to the old lands 00:00:38.30\00:00:42.44 of the Soviet Union. 00:00:42.47\00:00:44.67 Thank God, that evil empire is gone. 00:00:44.71\00:00:49.14 And I am here today, because God has called me 00:00:49.18\00:00:51.31 to Russia and Ukraine, 00:00:51.35\00:00:53.85 to preach the everlasting gospel 00:00:53.88\00:00:56.55 of our Lord, Jesus Christ. 00:00:56.62\00:00:58.82 It's great to be back. 00:00:58.85\00:01:01.62 I first came here in the year 1971, 00:01:01.66\00:01:06.03 and I came as a boy, 00:01:06.06\00:01:08.03 and I came as a tourist just to have a look. 00:01:08.06\00:01:12.57 I returned 20 years later in the year 1992, 1991, 00:01:12.60\00:01:19.01 not as a tourist but as an evangelist. 00:01:19.04\00:01:23.61 And I came to the great city of Moscow. 00:01:23.65\00:01:26.88 We conducted the first ever evangelist campaign by 00:01:26.92\00:01:31.79 a foreigner in the old Soviet Union. 00:01:31.82\00:01:35.39 We held the meetings in the palace of culture, 00:01:35.42\00:01:38.63 just down the road from the Kremlin. 00:01:38.66\00:01:41.50 These were days of grace, and glory, 00:01:41.53\00:01:45.50 and mighty power. 00:01:45.53\00:01:48.04 The meeting started at 10 o'clock in the morning, 00:01:48.07\00:01:51.07 and they finished 10 o'clock at night, 00:01:51.11\00:01:53.74 with only time out 00:01:53.81\00:01:55.14 for a little bit of bread and water. 00:01:55.18\00:01:57.98 We had a tremendous choir but better still, 00:01:58.01\00:02:01.72 we had a tremendous audience. 00:02:01.75\00:02:04.75 I was talking to an audience basically of atheists, 00:02:04.79\00:02:08.76 communists with a few believers. 00:02:08.79\00:02:12.16 And when I made altar calls for Jesus, 00:02:12.19\00:02:15.50 the people would break down and weep. 00:02:15.53\00:02:18.27 They were hearing the gospel of Christ 00:02:18.30\00:02:21.50 for the first time, 00:02:21.54\00:02:23.10 and they were just filled with amazement. 00:02:23.14\00:02:26.51 I can never forget those days. 00:02:26.54\00:02:29.71 And then the next year, it was 1992, 00:02:29.74\00:02:35.92 I came here to Nizhny Novgorod 00:02:35.95\00:02:38.92 or the city which used to be called Gorky 00:02:38.95\00:02:42.82 after the famous Russian poet. 00:02:42.86\00:02:46.39 In faith, we hired the great Palace of Sports. 00:02:46.43\00:02:50.90 The old communist director said to me, 00:02:50.93\00:02:53.30 "Mr. Carter, this is going to be 00:02:53.37\00:02:55.97 a failure because no one is going to come." 00:02:56.00\00:03:00.48 He said, "We've taught the people here 00:03:00.51\00:03:02.41 not even to think about Him, He doesn't exist in our minds." 00:03:02.44\00:03:07.95 But when we open those meetings a few months later, 00:03:07.98\00:03:11.35 the crowds was so great 00:03:11.39\00:03:13.56 that that old director was almost killed 00:03:13.59\00:03:16.29 in the rush of people there. 00:03:16.32\00:03:18.33 It was amazing. 00:03:18.36\00:03:20.83 When I came down to the auditorium, 00:03:20.90\00:03:23.26 I couldn't get in my self. 00:03:23.33\00:03:25.63 The Russian army had to take me to the meetings. 00:03:25.67\00:03:29.30 The people broke down the doors, 00:03:29.34\00:03:32.21 they smashed the windows, 00:03:32.24\00:03:35.38 and we had tremendous opposition too, 00:03:35.41\00:03:37.55 days of grace, and glory, and opposition. 00:03:37.61\00:03:42.35 The great state church sent along ruffians, 00:03:42.38\00:03:44.99 and they had smoke bombs, and they had fire bombs, 00:03:45.02\00:03:48.59 and I was preaching with smoke bombs all around me 00:03:48.62\00:03:52.19 and our believers were putting out the fires. 00:03:52.23\00:03:56.10 We saw the power of God. 00:03:56.13\00:03:58.27 The place was filled with tens of thousands of atheists 00:03:58.30\00:04:02.87 and communists and unbelievers. 00:04:02.90\00:04:06.57 But I want you to know today, 00:04:06.61\00:04:08.28 listen to this. 00:04:08.31\00:04:09.78 The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God 00:04:09.81\00:04:13.82 unto salvation to everyone who believes. 00:04:13.85\00:04:17.65 That is why I am here today to preach that same gospel. 00:04:17.69\00:04:21.12 And when I preach the gospel back there, 00:04:21.16\00:04:23.73 we saw hundreds of thousands of people come, 00:04:23.76\00:04:27.20 come to Christ. 00:04:27.23\00:04:29.83 I want you to know this, I have seen the latter rain. 00:04:29.86\00:04:35.30 I have seen the mighty outpouring 00:04:35.34\00:04:38.21 of the spirit of God. 00:04:38.24\00:04:39.57 I've seen hundreds of thousands of atheists 00:04:39.61\00:04:44.25 and communists come to Christ. 00:04:44.28\00:04:47.65 This is my 43rd visit. 00:04:47.68\00:04:52.09 You say, "Why do you come? Why do you go there? 00:04:52.12\00:04:55.86 Is it because you like the climate?" 00:04:55.89\00:04:58.43 I come here my friend because of the need. 00:04:58.46\00:05:01.83 These people still have a tremendous need. 00:05:01.86\00:05:04.73 Please support our work here. 00:05:04.77\00:05:06.87 Write to me John Carter, PO Box 1900 Thousand Oaks, 00:05:06.94\00:05:11.44 California 91358. 00:05:11.47\00:05:13.61 In Australia, write to me at Terrigal, 00:05:13.68\00:05:17.65 in the name of Jesus, please support us 00:05:17.68\00:05:21.38 in this great work, amen. 00:05:21.42\00:05:24.29 Welcome to the Carter Report and the Russian Experience. 00:05:32.23\00:05:36.83 I'm privileged to have with me today my wife Beverley. 00:05:36.87\00:05:40.90 Beverley, I'm glad that you're with me today. 00:05:40.94\00:05:45.81 How many times, Beverley, have you been to Russia? 00:05:45.84\00:05:50.71 I've been over 20 times with you. 00:05:50.75\00:05:53.68 And some of my first impressions of course, 00:05:53.72\00:05:56.52 I was impressed at first that God should give us 00:05:56.55\00:05:59.42 this opportunity to go to the former Soviet Union 00:05:59.45\00:06:03.36 just as it as communism was falling back in the 90s, 91. 00:06:03.39\00:06:07.76 One of the greatest blessings of our lives together 00:06:07.76\00:06:11.47 when we went to Moscow. 00:06:11.50\00:06:14.07 Do you remember the year? 00:06:14.14\00:06:15.97 1991. 1991. 00:06:16.00\00:06:19.34 And there weren't any cars on the roads 00:06:19.37\00:06:21.08 and that was one of the things that impressed me, 00:06:21.11\00:06:23.75 no cars except some two or three small cars, 00:06:23.78\00:06:27.22 I forget the name. 00:06:27.25\00:06:28.58 I think there was a car call the Moskvitch. 00:06:28.62\00:06:31.35 That was it. 00:06:31.39\00:06:32.72 I think it was partially made out of wood. 00:06:32.75\00:06:34.46 Yes, they were very small. 00:06:34.49\00:06:37.23 And this was before the Volgas, 00:06:37.26\00:06:38.76 before they started making 00:06:38.79\00:06:40.13 the Volga which was a bigger car. 00:06:40.20\00:06:41.50 Yeah. 00:06:41.53\00:06:42.86 And also another impression was no food in the shops, 00:06:42.90\00:06:45.10 and of course what had happened 00:06:45.13\00:06:46.47 the Soviets had spent all their money 00:06:46.50\00:06:49.34 making weapons of war. 00:06:49.37\00:06:51.77 And so they had gone broke. Yes. 00:06:51.81\00:06:53.74 And you had people we saw them lined up 00:06:53.78\00:06:55.94 to get bread and cheese and that was something 00:06:55.98\00:06:59.38 and also another thing that impressed me Igle, 00:06:59.41\00:07:02.85 our translator took us to his home, 00:07:02.88\00:07:05.62 and in that time people couldn't choose where to live. 00:07:05.65\00:07:09.46 They were told to live in a certain small apartments, 00:07:09.49\00:07:13.83 the apartment, the one that we went to 00:07:13.86\00:07:15.86 was no bigger than this room. 00:07:15.90\00:07:17.27 Yes. 00:07:17.30\00:07:18.63 And there were three families living there. 00:07:18.67\00:07:20.44 Using the same toilet. 00:07:20.47\00:07:22.00 Well, that's right. 00:07:22.04\00:07:23.41 And they couldn't choose who they lived with. 00:07:23.44\00:07:24.77 No. 00:07:24.81\00:07:26.14 Certain people were just told to go there 00:07:26.17\00:07:28.21 and they had the kitchen were small, 00:07:28.24\00:07:29.71 you could only fit about two people in. 00:07:29.74\00:07:31.78 The bathroom, it could only fit one person in. 00:07:31.81\00:07:33.85 And then so, 00:07:33.92\00:07:35.25 they took turns cooking their foods and food. 00:07:35.28\00:07:38.29 And then, they would go into their bedroom 00:07:38.32\00:07:40.76 which was also their eating room. 00:07:40.79\00:07:43.36 And that's where they took us. 00:07:43.43\00:07:45.06 And you'll remember that in those days, 00:07:45.09\00:07:47.66 the doors, they weren't wooden, 00:07:47.73\00:07:49.46 they were curtains separating these rooms, 00:07:49.50\00:07:51.43 so no privacy. 00:07:51.47\00:07:52.80 Not a lot of privacy. Things have changed 00:07:52.83\00:07:55.84 Yes, I know. 00:07:55.87\00:07:57.21 Now, you've just come back from your 43rd visit there. 00:07:57.27\00:08:00.51 So what is changed? And what did you...? 00:08:00.54\00:08:02.78 What impressed you about in the time? 00:08:02.81\00:08:04.98 lots of motorcars, lots of great hotels, 00:08:05.01\00:08:08.32 lot of apparent prosperity. 00:08:08.35\00:08:11.42 But there are still 00:08:11.45\00:08:12.79 the aching void in the hearts of these people 00:08:12.82\00:08:17.06 because of atheism, and communism, 00:08:17.09\00:08:20.73 and false religious systems. 00:08:20.76\00:08:22.90 And so, that's why I've gone and that's why you've gone too. 00:08:22.93\00:08:27.04 Not because we agree, 00:08:27.07\00:08:29.24 necessarily with the Russian government. 00:08:29.27\00:08:32.21 But we want to reach these people for Christ. 00:08:32.24\00:08:36.85 The door opened. Yes. 00:08:36.88\00:08:38.65 And God led us to go through in there. 00:08:38.68\00:08:40.92 I'm so thrilled about that 00:08:40.95\00:08:42.28 and the things that happened there were just miraculous now. 00:08:42.32\00:08:45.55 Then you went down to Nizhny Novgorod. 00:08:45.59\00:08:47.66 Yes, I did. 00:08:47.69\00:08:49.02 That was one of our highlights of our work in Russia. 00:08:49.06\00:08:52.23 Beverley, '91, we ran the first ever evangelistic campaign 00:08:52.26\00:08:55.70 by foreigners in the old Soviet Union. 00:08:55.73\00:08:58.27 You know, hallelujah. 00:08:58.30\00:08:59.63 And that was Moscow. 00:08:59.67\00:09:01.07 Yeah, glory hallelujah. 00:09:01.10\00:09:02.44 Just down the road from the Kremlin. 00:09:02.47\00:09:04.04 And then, we book the Kremlin 00:09:04.07\00:09:05.57 but we never got to the Kremlin. 00:09:05.61\00:09:08.54 It got, it got taken from us, you can talk to Danny Shelton 00:09:08.58\00:09:11.91 about this because he knows the story. 00:09:11.95\00:09:14.15 He was our partner there. 00:09:14.18\00:09:15.98 And then the next year, we went to Gorky which is now 00:09:16.02\00:09:20.49 called Nizhny Novgorod. 00:09:20.52\00:09:23.76 And there we saw the mighty power of God. 00:09:23.79\00:09:28.16 I've just come back from Nizhny, Beverley. 00:09:28.20\00:09:31.70 And I'm almost overwhelmed by how God has blessed this work. 00:09:31.73\00:09:36.14 And '92. '92. 00:09:36.17\00:09:38.17 Just tell us again, what happened? 00:09:38.21\00:09:40.91 Well, since '92 my hair has turned white. 00:09:40.98\00:09:44.05 Your's seems to be doing okay. 00:09:44.08\00:09:45.65 My hair's too, but I get a little bit of help. 00:09:45.68\00:09:47.88 You don't want to confess those things on television. 00:09:47.92\00:09:50.19 But what you see here is what you get. 00:09:50.22\00:09:53.69 What happened in '92? 00:09:53.76\00:09:57.53 Oh, dear Lord, we saw the power of God. 00:09:57.56\00:10:00.90 It was miraculous. 00:10:00.93\00:10:02.23 We saw the greatest crowds attending evangelistic meetings 00:10:02.26\00:10:05.57 in the history of the Soviet Union. 00:10:05.60\00:10:08.50 Thousands, tens of thousands inside, 00:10:08.54\00:10:11.64 tens of thousands outside, 00:10:11.67\00:10:13.34 people breaking down the doors, 00:10:13.38\00:10:16.38 people breaking into the windows 00:10:16.41\00:10:19.45 and then the largest baptism in the history of Russia, 00:10:19.48\00:10:22.88 in the Volga River. 00:10:22.92\00:10:24.95 A church is established. 00:10:24.99\00:10:26.45 The people were looking for something, 00:10:26.49\00:10:27.82 because I think 00:10:27.86\00:10:29.19 what had happened as I look back now, 00:10:29.22\00:10:31.56 that communism at least structured their lives. 00:10:31.59\00:10:34.36 Yes, yes. 00:10:34.36\00:10:35.70 Even though it wasn't good, a good structure. 00:10:35.73\00:10:38.10 But once communism fell, 00:10:38.13\00:10:39.70 and though many of them were atheists, 00:10:39.73\00:10:42.00 they had no belief in God, they were left with nothing. 00:10:42.04\00:10:45.71 There was a terrible void there. 00:10:45.74\00:10:48.08 Let's, let me talk about this void. 00:10:48.11\00:10:49.71 Because somebody you talk to me last night, 00:10:49.74\00:10:52.88 Alexander Solzhenitsyn. 00:10:52.91\00:10:54.92 He spoke about the void caused by atheism. 00:10:54.95\00:10:58.35 Somebody said, 00:10:58.39\00:10:59.72 Stalin ripped the heart out of the Russian people. 00:10:59.75\00:11:03.53 Atheism, what a curse it was. 00:11:03.56\00:11:06.33 Tens of millions of people murdered 00:11:06.36\00:11:09.56 in the name of communism, 00:11:09.60\00:11:11.67 and in the in the name of atheism. 00:11:11.70\00:11:15.04 And when we went there, there was this tremendous void. 00:11:15.07\00:11:19.71 People were so hungry for God. 00:11:19.74\00:11:23.11 And I was thrilled because as you well know 00:11:23.14\00:11:26.51 I used to stand behind the curtain... 00:11:26.55\00:11:27.88 You were there, yes. 00:11:27.92\00:11:29.25 Behind the curtain praying right through. 00:11:29.28\00:11:30.65 We head out the groups praying around the hall too. 00:11:30.69\00:11:33.62 But, that they would come in 00:11:33.66\00:11:35.86 and their eyes was so full of hopelessness 00:11:35.89\00:11:38.63 Yes. They look so sad, but then... 00:11:38.66\00:11:40.66 Yes, depressed 00:11:40.70\00:11:42.00 With the translator you opened up the word of God 00:11:42.03\00:11:44.10 and you gave them evidence from archaeology 00:11:44.13\00:11:46.47 to believe the Bible. 00:11:46.50\00:11:48.47 And then from then you could tell them, 00:11:48.50\00:11:50.34 "Well, there is a God." Yes. 00:11:50.37\00:11:52.71 "There is the God of the Bible", 00:11:52.74\00:11:54.11 and that gave them hope 00:11:54.14\00:11:55.48 and you could say their faces change. 00:11:55.51\00:11:56.85 Beverley, we saw Pentecost, 00:11:56.88\00:11:58.58 people say you know, 00:11:58.61\00:11:59.95 and people say, well, 00:12:00.05\00:12:01.58 the latter rain is way down in the future. 00:12:01.62\00:12:04.29 We saw, glory be to God the latter rain. 00:12:04.32\00:12:07.29 We saw more than 00:12:07.36\00:12:08.69 two and a half thousand atheists 00:12:08.72\00:12:11.46 and communists and members of the KGB walk out into 00:12:11.49\00:12:15.60 the freezing waters of the Volga River 00:12:15.63\00:12:18.37 and get baptized. 00:12:18.40\00:12:20.00 And, I've just come back 00:12:20.04\00:12:22.87 from greeting some of these new believers. 00:12:22.90\00:12:25.94 Now, old believers. 00:12:25.97\00:12:28.04 Yeah, and they're still faithful, 00:12:28.08\00:12:30.01 the majority of them are still faithful. 00:12:30.05\00:12:32.65 Went to the Christian Cultural Center this, 00:12:32.68\00:12:35.95 the largest Protestant building in Russia. 00:12:35.98\00:12:41.52 It's amazing, I spoke there to our church 00:12:41.56\00:12:44.79 that was packed to the doors. 00:12:44.83\00:12:47.56 I saw young people playing violins, 00:12:47.60\00:12:51.53 wonderful singing. 00:12:51.57\00:12:52.90 They're great musicians. 00:12:52.93\00:12:54.27 One of the best. Just, just touches my heart. 00:12:54.30\00:12:58.11 I saw Julia, 00:12:58.14\00:12:59.47 who's in charge of the 3ABN ministry there. 00:12:59.51\00:13:03.18 This last year she's lost her brother, murdered, 00:13:03.21\00:13:07.32 Boris Nemtsov, our friend. 00:13:07.35\00:13:09.72 Yes, yes, we knew him. 00:13:09.75\00:13:11.15 My friend, I knew him. 00:13:11.19\00:13:13.76 Then she lost her husband. He was drowned. 00:13:13.79\00:13:16.73 And when I got over there, 00:13:16.76\00:13:18.09 her mother had just broken her hip. 00:13:18.13\00:13:21.16 And Julia is taking care of her. 00:13:21.20\00:13:24.33 And so we meet these people, who are saints, 00:13:24.37\00:13:28.04 who are standing firm for God in spite of hardship. 00:13:28.07\00:13:32.81 Beverley, the church has been through a time of trouble 00:13:32.84\00:13:36.54 in Nizhny Novgorod. 00:13:36.58\00:13:38.88 And this left them stronger for that. 00:13:38.91\00:13:40.82 There was a man who professed to be a member of our church. 00:13:40.88\00:13:44.15 And he murdered his wife and all of his children 00:13:44.19\00:13:48.36 and the government moved in 00:13:48.39\00:13:49.79 and our churches have been under siege. 00:13:49.82\00:13:52.09 That was just a few months ago, wasn't it? 00:13:52.13\00:13:53.56 Yes, Julia sent me a message she said, 00:13:53.60\00:13:55.86 "Don't come. It may be too dangerous." 00:13:55.90\00:13:59.73 But God put his hand over his church. 00:13:59.77\00:14:02.40 That church is survived 00:14:02.44\00:14:04.71 the people of God need to realize 00:14:04.74\00:14:07.58 this is no time to sound the retreat, 00:14:07.61\00:14:11.68 and forsake as suffering Russian brothers and sisters. 00:14:11.71\00:14:15.82 Just because we don't like the booten government. 00:14:15.85\00:14:17.92 That's right, and not to be feeble 00:14:17.95\00:14:19.49 and not know it is the novel says, 00:14:19.52\00:14:21.82 "Not to fight in times of trouble." 00:14:21.86\00:14:24.46 Now, in used in Novgorod, 00:14:24.49\00:14:26.80 that was where I first started my orphanage work. 00:14:26.83\00:14:29.53 Yes. 00:14:29.56\00:14:30.93 I felt impressed at the time 00:14:30.97\00:14:32.53 as you know the Book of James I think it is says, 00:14:32.57\00:14:35.47 "A true and pure really is just a vision 00:14:35.50\00:14:37.77 the orphans and widows widowers in their pristine and flexion", 00:14:37.81\00:14:42.88 and I just felt impressed that, 00:14:42.91\00:14:46.51 to do something practical for the people because, 00:14:46.55\00:14:48.65 I didn't want them to think well, 00:14:48.68\00:14:50.19 "Okay, you're here just to preach us. 00:14:50.25\00:14:52.49 You're also here to help." Yes 00:14:52.52\00:14:54.62 And that, and also because 00:14:54.66\00:14:56.06 we love children. 00:14:56.09\00:14:57.59 So, that's where I began the orphanage work and, 00:14:57.63\00:15:00.53 and at that time I also visited a children's hospital. 00:15:00.56\00:15:03.97 And I noticed that they had nothing. 00:15:04.00\00:15:06.23 If you went into hospital, 00:15:06.27\00:15:07.94 you had to take your own bathing, 00:15:07.97\00:15:09.60 you had to go and buy your own medication 00:15:09.64\00:15:11.94 because the hospitals have you nothing. 00:15:11.97\00:15:13.31 Nothing. 00:15:13.38\00:15:14.71 Because as we said before. 00:15:14.74\00:15:16.08 The footage of atheism 00:15:16.11\00:15:17.45 All the money had gone to the building weapons, 00:15:17.48\00:15:19.31 of destruction. 00:15:19.35\00:15:20.72 Instead of helping the people 00:15:20.75\00:15:22.62 And so with us at that time we had two, 00:15:22.65\00:15:25.15 German friends, who were from at church 00:15:25.19\00:15:27.39 back here in America they went over with us. 00:15:27.46\00:15:29.92 And they still had relatives in Germany. 00:15:29.96\00:15:32.73 And so what we did, we got some money together 00:15:32.76\00:15:35.70 and our friends in Germany. 00:15:35.73\00:15:37.60 There able to buy by ten tons of medication, 00:15:37.63\00:15:40.50 and medical supplies. 00:15:40.54\00:15:42.14 And they brought it over on a big semi truck. 00:15:42.17\00:15:43.77 And glory be to God. 00:15:43.81\00:15:45.14 And we just thank God, we thank our supporters, 00:15:45.17\00:15:47.44 and for all those people that helped us to do that. 00:15:47.48\00:15:50.51 And I know that did make an impression 00:15:50.55\00:15:52.61 on the people to say well, 00:15:52.65\00:15:54.45 "These Christians they're not just here to preach 00:15:54.48\00:15:57.05 that they're also here to help us." 00:15:57.09\00:15:58.99 And we'll be back, after this special message. 00:15:59.02\00:16:03.46 Hello friend, were baptized 00:16:39.06\00:16:44.50 into Jesus Christ. 00:16:44.53\00:16:47.40 The need here has not lessen 00:16:47.44\00:16:50.27 the people are crying out for God. 00:16:50.31\00:16:53.44 I'm asking you today in the name of Jesus. 00:16:53.48\00:16:58.08 Please support us in the preaching 00:16:58.11\00:17:01.02 of the gospel of Christ to the Russian people. 00:17:01.05\00:17:05.29 Please visit. 00:18:28.20\00:18:31.27 You've been there more than more 20 times. 00:18:31.31\00:18:34.08 And one of the places, 00:18:34.11\00:18:35.44 I've visited is a place that you know all about 00:18:35.48\00:18:38.21 Dzerzhinsk. 00:18:38.25\00:18:39.58 Dzerzhinsk. 00:18:39.61\00:18:40.95 Yeah, very polluted city tell us about that. 00:18:40.98\00:18:43.39 Yeah Dzerzhinsk polluted, 00:18:43.42\00:18:45.82 it used to be the pollution capital 00:18:45.85\00:18:49.69 for the old Soviet empire. 00:18:49.72\00:18:51.69 Is where they made their hellish chemicals. 00:18:51.73\00:18:55.30 And when you go to Dzerzhinsk You see there the, 00:18:55.33\00:18:59.27 the disease, the cancer and so forth among the people. 00:18:59.30\00:19:03.77 As you know by the grace of God 00:19:03.84\00:19:05.71 we built a church in Dzerzhinsk 00:19:05.74\00:19:09.81 God has used the Carter report to build churches 00:19:09.84\00:19:12.01 throughout the old Soviet Union. 00:19:12.05\00:19:14.42 We built a church there. 00:19:14.45\00:19:16.42 And all day every day 00:19:16.45\00:19:17.79 I wish you had been there with me 00:19:17.82\00:19:19.45 this time to see the faces of the people 00:19:19.49\00:19:22.22 to hear the music. 00:19:22.26\00:19:24.16 The church was founded 25 years ago, 00:19:24.19\00:19:27.30 it's still standing strong thank you Jesus. 00:19:27.36\00:19:31.03 Yes, praise the Lord 00:19:31.07\00:19:32.40 To the glory of God. 00:19:32.43\00:19:33.77 Yes, that's wonderful because, and talking about pollution 00:19:33.84\00:19:36.74 there's so many cities on to in the former Soviet Union. 00:19:36.81\00:19:40.38 Where Nuclear dumps where you know 00:19:40.41\00:19:42.64 they were just dumped. 00:19:42.68\00:19:44.18 And so many cities there, 00:19:44.25\00:19:45.58 so many people sick as you said, 00:19:45.61\00:19:47.78 with cancer and other terrible diseases. 00:19:47.82\00:19:50.29 And I want to say to the people watching this telecast. 00:19:50.32\00:19:54.26 Don't think, what you believe 00:19:54.29\00:19:56.29 doesn't affect the way you live. 00:19:56.32\00:19:58.86 Easy atheism is one the greatest curses 00:19:58.89\00:20:01.80 in the history of the world. 00:20:01.83\00:20:04.67 It almost destroyed the hearts, and the souls, 00:20:04.70\00:20:08.70 and the bodies of the Russian people. 00:20:08.74\00:20:11.47 Beverley we're going to talk 00:20:11.51\00:20:13.14 in the next part of our program. 00:20:13.17\00:20:15.74 About your noble, 00:20:15.78\00:20:17.11 we're gonna leave that to the talk on Ukraine. 00:20:17.15\00:20:20.58 But when I went to Dzerzhinsk, 00:20:20.62\00:20:21.95 I was so glad to meet with their people; 00:20:21.98\00:20:24.45 their love almost just followed me up. 00:20:24.49\00:20:27.06 But my heart goes out to them, 00:20:27.12\00:20:28.59 because of the terrible suffering 00:20:28.62\00:20:30.99 and their great needs there. 00:20:31.03\00:20:32.56 Could you tell us about some of the needs? 00:20:32.59\00:20:36.40 Beverley, I will try 00:20:36.43\00:20:39.30 I'm sure there are so many but. 00:20:39.33\00:20:41.87 I think of the young people. 00:20:41.90\00:20:45.77 Some of the most beautiful young people, 00:20:45.81\00:20:47.94 you'll find anywhere in the world. 00:20:47.98\00:20:50.81 But they need help, 00:20:50.88\00:20:52.21 we're thinking by the grace of God 00:20:52.25\00:20:53.95 if we can raise the money. 00:20:53.98\00:20:55.35 Are putting on a, I use Congress in Russia. 00:20:55.38\00:20:59.72 And going there and putting on meetings, 00:20:59.75\00:21:03.16 and winning young people, not only old people 00:21:03.19\00:21:06.53 but we're going to have a concentrated effort 00:21:06.56\00:21:09.93 to reach young people for Christ. 00:21:09.96\00:21:12.90 Because in Russia, 00:21:12.93\00:21:14.27 it's been relatively easy to get the babushka, 00:21:14.30\00:21:17.57 some of the old people. 00:21:17.61\00:21:19.31 But the young people and own Christian young people. 00:21:19.34\00:21:23.91 They desperately need help at this time. 00:21:23.95\00:21:26.98 By the grace of God we want to go back, 00:21:27.02\00:21:29.12 and work especially for our young people. 00:21:29.15\00:21:31.92 We must do that, by God's great. 00:21:31.95\00:21:34.29 We've got to raise the money Beverley. 00:21:34.32\00:21:36.19 And you know, 00:21:36.22\00:21:37.73 I'm just a no pastor with his wife. 00:21:37.76\00:21:42.06 You called me old too, but I guess I' am. 00:21:42.10\00:21:43.43 No, no, no I' am just an old pastor 00:21:43.50\00:21:45.47 with his young wife. 00:21:45.50\00:21:46.97 But raising the money is not easy. 00:21:47.00\00:21:51.44 We don't get any support of course, 00:21:51.47\00:21:53.31 from the organization. 00:21:53.34\00:21:56.04 But thank God, we get support from God. 00:21:56.08\00:21:57.91 That's right. 00:21:57.95\00:21:59.28 And God's people. 00:21:59.31\00:22:00.95 And usually, we've always found that 00:22:00.98\00:22:02.88 when people hear of the need, or see the need. 00:22:02.92\00:22:05.95 They come to our help. 00:22:05.99\00:22:07.82 And I'm sure that will happen again. 00:22:07.86\00:22:10.96 Can I ask you a question. 00:22:10.99\00:22:12.33 Yeah, 00:22:12.36\00:22:13.70 In the last segment, you spoke about the orphans. 00:22:13.73\00:22:17.73 Now in a program on Ukraine, 00:22:17.77\00:22:19.57 that's going to follow this program. 00:22:19.60\00:22:21.24 We're going to talk about the children of Chernobyl. 00:22:21.27\00:22:26.41 Do you remember when we went on the Trans-Siberian Express. 00:22:26.44\00:22:30.71 Yes, I'll never forget it. 00:22:30.75\00:22:32.18 You know, we went from Moscow to Vladivostok 00:22:32.21\00:22:34.72 11 time zones. 00:22:34.75\00:22:36.12 Eight days on the train. And no shell 00:22:36.15\00:22:40.92 Just a little thing to wash a face in. 00:22:40.96\00:22:43.69 Do you remember the children in Siberia? 00:22:43.73\00:22:46.90 Who came to the train starving? 00:22:46.96\00:22:49.50 Yes, I remember that. 00:22:49.53\00:22:50.90 Can you tell me about that. 00:22:50.93\00:22:52.33 Well, when we stop there. 00:22:52.37\00:22:53.97 Like we stopped at every station along the way. 00:22:54.00\00:22:56.57 At any time of the day and night. 00:22:56.64\00:22:57.97 Yeah, Two O'clock, Four O' clock in the morning. 00:22:58.01\00:23:00.28 These children were there and they were well, 00:23:00.31\00:23:03.75 you know that every dirty, grubby, 00:23:03.78\00:23:05.58 little children God bless them. 00:23:05.61\00:23:07.68 And, the lady in our carriage told us. 00:23:07.72\00:23:10.92 A Russian lady said, 00:23:10.99\00:23:12.39 "That, every time a trying stops. They come. 00:23:12.42\00:23:15.82 Because and number one, 00:23:15.86\00:23:17.69 they get the warmth of the train. 00:23:17.73\00:23:20.10 And then people give them bread and give them cheese 00:23:20.13\00:23:22.60 or any food that they might have left over." 00:23:22.63\00:23:25.30 And so we had some food left and we gave it to them. 00:23:25.33\00:23:29.47 But that was sad, because 00:23:29.50\00:23:31.54 Do you remember, how cold it was? 00:23:31.57\00:23:33.01 It was freezing, it with freezing 00:23:33.04\00:23:35.38 I wish it had been freezing 00:23:35.41\00:23:36.75 it was 30 or 40 degrees below freezing 00:23:36.81\00:23:39.15 Yeah, yeah. 00:23:39.18\00:23:40.58 But they say, "Children are hungry every day, 00:23:40.62\00:23:42.72 they come to the train to get warmth and to get some food." 00:23:42.75\00:23:47.92 I didn't know if you know this. 00:23:47.96\00:23:49.52 But I have discovered that, 00:23:49.56\00:23:51.06 these children who were all orphans 00:23:51.09\00:23:54.23 and deserted children were deserted, 00:23:54.30\00:23:57.20 because of the demon in the bottle. 00:23:57.23\00:24:01.37 Yes, yes I do remember. 00:24:01.40\00:24:02.74 Remember? The Vodka, and the parents 00:24:02.77\00:24:06.34 because they were atheists gave up on life 00:24:06.37\00:24:09.94 and they turned to the demon in the bottle or the vodka. 00:24:09.98\00:24:14.25 And they were drunk all the time. 00:24:14.32\00:24:16.69 And the children were driven out onto the streets, 00:24:16.72\00:24:20.36 were minus 30 and minus 40 degrees. 00:24:20.39\00:24:24.13 That was one of the reasons they were so many orphans. 00:24:24.16\00:24:27.23 Because either, both parents had died 00:24:27.30\00:24:29.93 or there was one parent. But they were alcoholic. 00:24:29.96\00:24:33.30 And I couldn't look after the children. 00:24:33.34\00:24:35.47 So, they were given to the orphanages. 00:24:35.50\00:24:37.67 So alcoholism has, has destroyed millions 00:24:37.71\00:24:41.58 in Russia and Ukraine. 00:24:41.61\00:24:43.45 It's one of the greatest curses in the history of, 00:24:43.51\00:24:46.18 of the Russian people. 00:24:46.21\00:24:47.58 And in the history of America, 00:24:47.62\00:24:51.29 America go to day is no longer the great Christian nation 00:24:51.32\00:24:55.42 she used to be. 00:24:55.46\00:24:57.39 Because, forces of atheism, and secularism, 00:24:57.43\00:25:01.63 are starting to tear the heart out 00:25:01.66\00:25:04.07 of this great nation. 00:25:04.10\00:25:05.93 And the results you can see it all around the, 00:25:05.97\00:25:09.87 the breakdown of society. 00:25:09.90\00:25:12.01 But Beverley you asked me before. 00:25:12.04\00:25:14.81 What can we do? What can our supporters do? 00:25:14.84\00:25:19.08 I think we are a move ahead by the grace of God 00:25:19.11\00:25:21.62 and try to run this bigger evangelistic campaign 00:25:21.65\00:25:24.75 for the young people. 00:25:24.79\00:25:28.06 My heart sometimes fails me 00:25:28.09\00:25:30.36 I think we're going to get the money for this. 00:25:30.43\00:25:32.76 But God is never, never failed has he. 00:25:32.79\00:25:35.53 Now he has not. 00:25:35.56\00:25:36.93 We've run campaigns all around Russia Moscow, 00:25:36.97\00:25:41.64 Garonne in St Petersburg over Nick Coots in Siberia, 00:25:41.67\00:25:47.61 Cazan. Do you remember Cazan? 00:25:47.64\00:25:50.41 Yeah, well, I didn't get to Cazan because, 00:25:50.45\00:25:52.38 I had a health problem. 00:25:52.41\00:25:54.45 But tell us about that because, that was 00:25:54.48\00:25:56.95 That was Muslim city 00:25:56.99\00:25:58.32 Yes. 00:25:58.35\00:25:59.69 But she came with me, later on Cazan. 00:25:59.72\00:26:01.79 Yes, we did you came with me to Cazan. 00:26:01.82\00:26:04.43 It was a Muslim city. 00:26:04.46\00:26:06.63 And we saw hundreds of Muslims baptized in the river. 00:26:06.66\00:26:10.17 In front of the mosque, people say it can't be done. 00:26:10.20\00:26:13.74 Just to get back a moment when you said, 00:26:13.77\00:26:16.04 you know we're getting older of course, we are. 00:26:16.07\00:26:19.14 Why not have a perhaps a training school. 00:26:19.17\00:26:22.91 Yes 00:26:22.94\00:26:24.28 For the young people because, 00:26:24.31\00:26:26.58 so many of them are eager for years. 00:26:26.61\00:26:29.32 Yes, and this is now the Bible better 00:26:29.35\00:26:31.92 and had to present it to our listeners. 00:26:31.95\00:26:33.86 This is a great idea. 00:26:33.89\00:26:36.39 Years ago, we ran a school evangelism 00:26:36.42\00:26:38.36 for the Russian pastors. 00:26:38.39\00:26:40.60 We had every Russian, and every one of their pastors. 00:26:40.63\00:26:43.23 Come into a central place. 00:26:43.26\00:26:44.77 At the Christian Cultural Center established 00:26:44.80\00:26:47.77 by 3 ABN and we had a grade school of evangelism 00:26:47.80\00:26:51.41 And it was very successful. 00:26:51.44\00:26:52.81 Super successful, 00:26:52.84\00:26:54.18 we need a school of evangelism 00:26:54.24\00:26:57.11 for our young people. 00:26:57.15\00:26:58.85 Absolutely 00:26:58.88\00:27:00.28 Don't you believe this? 00:27:00.35\00:27:01.68 All from my heart. 00:27:01.72\00:27:03.05 I love the young people here 00:27:03.08\00:27:04.42 I spend a lot of time with the young people. 00:27:04.45\00:27:06.42 Teaching them how to communicate, 00:27:06.45\00:27:08.19 with God how to pray because my, 00:27:08.22\00:27:10.16 they didn't know about prayer. 00:27:10.19\00:27:12.59 And had to commune with God. 00:27:12.63\00:27:15.26 And so I love the young people. 00:27:15.30\00:27:16.97 And we need, I just feel impressed like 00:27:17.00\00:27:19.17 you did to do something for them. 00:27:19.20\00:27:21.10 Not to do less but to do more. 00:27:21.14\00:27:22.47 Yes 00:27:22.50\00:27:23.84 My friend won't to be a partner. 00:27:23.91\00:27:25.27 Want to be Beverley's partner and want to be my partner. 00:27:25.31\00:27:28.38 We've been telling you about the Russian experience. 00:27:28.41\00:27:32.25 We, we've been telling you about 00:27:32.28\00:27:34.15 what atheism can do to our nation. 00:27:34.22\00:27:36.69 How it can destroy the nation. 00:27:36.72\00:27:39.45 And in many ways, 00:27:39.49\00:27:40.89 even though Russia has had a period of peace 00:27:40.96\00:27:43.66 and prosperity and freedom. 00:27:43.73\00:27:46.23 That time is passing. 00:27:46.26\00:27:50.23 The freedoms are going. 00:27:50.27\00:27:52.70 It is time now, to work for the Russian people. 00:27:52.73\00:27:56.14 Please write to me John Carter Post Office Box 00:27:56.17\00:27:58.27 1900 Thousand Oaks, California 91358. 00:27:58.31\00:28:02.04 In Australia write to me at the address 00:28:02.08\00:28:03.91 on the screen to next time. 00:28:03.98\00:28:06.18 God bless you. 00:28:06.21\00:28:07.55
