No. 00:01:28.15\00:01:30.82 It's the hardest place we've ever worked. 00:01:30.85\00:01:33.43 Harder than Russian? Harder than Russian. 00:01:33.46\00:01:35.97 Harder than America? Harder than America. 00:01:36.00\00:01:38.53 Harder than Australia? Harder than Australia. 00:01:38.56\00:01:41.65 Because it is a land that's given over 00:01:41.68\00:01:43.60 almost totally to demonism. 00:01:43.63\00:01:47.53 Now I could tell you about those demons. 00:01:47.56\00:01:49.42 I could tell you about the false gods, 00:01:49.45\00:01:51.39 but I want to tell you today 00:01:51.42\00:01:52.73 is about the true God and the true God who told us, 00:01:52.76\00:01:55.72 go into all the world 00:01:55.75\00:01:57.26 and preach the gospel to every creature. 00:01:57.29\00:01:59.54 We're back in India. 00:01:59.57\00:02:02.09 Yes, we're back in India 00:02:02.12\00:02:03.54 and by the grace of God we're back in India to stay. 00:02:03.57\00:02:07.14 We want you to come with us. 00:02:07.17\00:02:08.50 We want you to pray for India. 00:02:08.53\00:02:10.37 We want you to give for India and do it today. 00:02:10.40\00:02:14.09 Please write to me, 00:02:14.12\00:02:15.64 John Carter, P.O. Box 1900, 00:02:15.67\00:02:17.78 Thousand Oaks, CA 91358. 00:02:17.81\00:02:19.46 Write to me at Terrigal, Australia, 00:02:19.49\00:02:21.72 email me, contact me and say 00:02:21.75\00:02:24.17 "yes, I'm going to stand with you 00:02:24.20\00:02:26.50 in the preaching of the gospel to the lost souls of India." 00:02:26.53\00:02:30.48 Thank you in Jesus name and God bless you. 00:02:30.51\00:02:33.42 Alan, we're honored and delighted 00:02:41.22\00:02:43.66 to have you here today 00:02:43.69\00:02:45.44 and we're glad that you joined the Carter Report 00:02:45.47\00:02:47.79 for this animated discussion on religious liberty. 00:02:47.82\00:02:51.36 The privilege is mine, John. 00:02:51.39\00:02:52.67 Glad to be with you. 00:02:52.70\00:02:54.43 Alan, what is the most important, 00:02:54.46\00:02:57.43 the individual or the state? 00:02:57.46\00:03:00.03 Here in America, we have always believed 00:03:00.06\00:03:04.20 that it's the individual. 00:03:04.23\00:03:05.57 Amen. 00:03:05.60\00:03:06.93 Is it true today? 00:03:06.96\00:03:08.83 No, sorry to say we live in the national security state. 00:03:08.86\00:03:14.31 Everything has changed, the individual, 00:03:14.34\00:03:16.83 I mean its, look- 00:03:16.86\00:03:18.37 Do you think Americans know about this? 00:03:18.40\00:03:20.70 No. 00:03:20.73\00:03:22.60 If you are in China and you're in a country 00:03:22.63\00:03:26.01 where you're trying to hold together 00:03:26.04\00:03:27.78 a society of 1.3 billion people, 00:03:27.81\00:03:31.14 I can understand where you're looking 00:03:31.17\00:03:33.65 at keeping the whole thing together 00:03:33.68\00:03:36.61 is more important than each individual. 00:03:36.64\00:03:39.38 But the whole premise of the United States 00:03:39.41\00:03:42.54 has a Protestant foundation. 00:03:42.57\00:03:44.99 And you know the Protestant genius 00:03:45.02\00:03:47.99 was to rediscover a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. 00:03:48.02\00:03:52.39 That Christ died for each one 00:03:52.42\00:03:54.35 and wants to have a relationship with you 00:03:54.38\00:03:56.85 and that you can have our relationship with God 00:03:56.88\00:04:00.25 through faith in Jesus Christ. 00:04:00.28\00:04:02.30 You can read the Bible for yourself 00:04:02.33\00:04:04.33 out of the revolution 00:04:04.36\00:04:06.00 that was the Protestant Reformation 00:04:06.03\00:04:08.03 we discovered that the individual 00:04:08.06\00:04:10.66 has real significance, 00:04:10.69\00:04:12.64 not just the community of the church 00:04:12.67\00:04:15.21 or the community of the state 00:04:15.24\00:04:17.08 and out of that when Protestant's came to America 00:04:17.11\00:04:21.49 we have our constitution and Bill of Rights 00:04:21.52\00:04:24.04 designed to reverse the idea 00:04:24.07\00:04:27.64 that you know the king has divine rights. 00:04:27.67\00:04:30.85 And he rules over the people, 00:04:30.88\00:04:32.84 now the people are sovereign. 00:04:32.87\00:04:35.18 Its government of by and for the people is able to- 00:04:35.21\00:04:37.97 I'm saying, I'm saying amen, amen, amen. 00:04:38.00\00:04:41.72 This is great theology and this is the genius 00:04:41.75\00:04:45.04 of the United States of America. 00:04:45.07\00:04:47.07 But you're telling me and you're an attorney 00:04:47.10\00:04:49.25 who is a professional in these areas. 00:04:49.28\00:04:52.04 You're saying, this is actually being threatened today. 00:04:52.07\00:04:55.16 Look, we'll are- 00:04:55.19\00:04:56.25 Or beyond being threatened? 00:04:56.28\00:04:57.32 We're living on borrowed Protestant cultural capital, 00:04:57.35\00:05:01.03 Protestantism, terms of its legal influence is dead. 00:05:01.06\00:05:05.02 I would suggest you that Protestantism 00:05:05.05\00:05:07.41 in its cultural and religious influences 00:05:07.44\00:05:09.92 is largely dead as well. 00:05:09.95\00:05:11.56 I think this is true. 00:05:11.59\00:05:13.11 And I say that in the sense of the emphasis 00:05:13.14\00:05:16.63 on a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, 00:05:16.66\00:05:19.51 the emphasis on the individual, we are- 00:05:19.54\00:05:23.31 Protestant America is now 00:05:23.34\00:05:25.31 very much Catholic America in this sense. 00:05:25.34\00:05:29.41 Historic Catholicism, you're standing before God 00:05:29.44\00:05:34.15 dependent upon your standing in the religious community. 00:05:34.18\00:05:36.70 Yes. 00:05:36.73\00:05:37.77 Today in America, 00:05:37.80\00:05:40.28 the state and the security of the community 00:05:40.31\00:05:43.18 is more important than any individual. 00:05:43.21\00:05:46.29 I can see what you're saying, 00:05:46.32\00:05:47.68 I can hear what you're saying, 00:05:47.71\00:05:48.92 I'm listing with both ears 00:05:48.95\00:05:52.07 but if this is so then we are really seeing 00:05:52.10\00:05:54.66 Bible prophecies being fulfilled today. 00:05:54.69\00:05:57.43 One of my favorite Bible commentators, 00:05:57.46\00:06:00.53 Ellen White observes of America and prophecy 00:06:00.56\00:06:04.58 that she will repudiate 00:06:04.61\00:06:06.55 every principle of her constitution, 00:06:06.58\00:06:09.39 both Protestant and republican, 00:06:09.42\00:06:12.19 "small r" republican principles. 00:06:12.22\00:06:14.70 Now republic means, 00:06:14.73\00:06:16.71 government of by and for the people. 00:06:16.74\00:06:19.61 A republic is a system of government 00:06:19.64\00:06:22.18 where the people are sovereign. 00:06:22.21\00:06:23.83 Today, its, its hardly, 00:06:23.86\00:06:26.14 I mean you know I take a Bill Moyers quipped that no, 00:06:26.17\00:06:29.69 I think it was Stephen Colbert who said 00:06:29.72\00:06:31.14 "well, now that corporations are people, 00:06:31.17\00:06:33.24 we finally have government of by and for the people." 00:06:33.27\00:06:36.62 Say that again. 00:06:36.65\00:06:38.38 Well, you know the Supreme Court 00:06:38.41\00:06:39.88 famously decided in the Citizens United case 00:06:39.91\00:06:42.79 that corporations are persons 00:06:42.82\00:06:44.60 who have first amendment rights. 00:06:44.63\00:06:46.49 And so the television comedian, Stephen Colbert was- 00:06:46.52\00:06:51.12 now that you know corporations are persons 00:06:51.15\00:06:54.86 we have government of by and for the people at last. 00:06:54.89\00:06:59.02 I get it. 00:06:59.05\00:07:02.13 So we're moving away from the great constitution 00:07:02.16\00:07:05.32 that made America the greatest force in the world for good. 00:07:05.35\00:07:08.61 We really are. 00:07:08.64\00:07:09.76 We have shredded wholesale, 00:07:09.79\00:07:11.91 whole portions of the constitution. 00:07:11.94\00:07:14.17 When we have SWAT teams that go in, 00:07:14.20\00:07:16.90 you know we have a militarized police force. 00:07:16.93\00:07:19.81 We have militarized drones coming to a city. 00:07:19.84\00:07:22.27 No, no, everybody wants to hear this. 00:07:22.30\00:07:24.73 Well, whether you want to hear it or not it's happening. 00:07:24.76\00:07:27.60 I want to hear it, tell it to me. 00:07:27.63\00:07:28.95 Let me have it. 00:07:28.98\00:07:30.06 Well, we have an NSA that is monitoring 00:07:30.09\00:07:33.81 far more than George Orwell ever imagined 00:07:33.84\00:07:37.37 when he wrote 1984. 00:07:37.40\00:07:39.05 We're way passed in Orwellian kind of oppressive society. 00:07:39.08\00:07:43.83 You see, I've been teaching from the Bible 00:07:43.86\00:07:46.18 for more than 50 years, 00:07:46.21\00:07:48.64 Alan and I used to preach the prophecies of the Bible 00:07:48.67\00:07:52.36 and you know those prophecies like Revelation 13, 00:07:52.39\00:07:55.81 and Revelation 13 actually describes 00:07:55.84\00:07:58.08 a coalition of church and state. 00:07:58.11\00:08:00.42 Correct. 00:08:00.45\00:08:01.48 And the setting up a totalitarian system 00:08:01.51\00:08:03.41 that'll take religious freedoms from the people. 00:08:03.44\00:08:05.71 Right. 00:08:05.74\00:08:06.77 So, can you see this happening? 00:08:06.80\00:08:09.21 It is happening, but I think that many 00:08:09.24\00:08:12.42 who even study the prophecies 00:08:12.45\00:08:14.71 they don't know what they're looking for. 00:08:14.74\00:08:17.14 Mark of the Beast religion is the dominant force 00:08:17.17\00:08:21.60 in religion in world today. 00:08:21.63\00:08:24.56 Because the kind oppressive religion 00:08:24.59\00:08:27.47 that Revelation 13 talks about 00:08:27.50\00:08:29.87 is what most people believe that God will kill you 00:08:29.90\00:08:33.77 if you don't tow the line, 00:08:33.80\00:08:35.09 "it's my way or the highway" approach 00:08:35.12\00:08:37.61 and this is true regardless 00:08:37.64\00:08:39.64 of whether your worship is you know 00:08:39.67\00:08:43.33 Islamic fundamentalism or Christian fundamentalism. 00:08:43.36\00:08:46.63 So the people who are watching this television program today 00:08:46.66\00:08:49.69 would be wise if they would wake up. 00:08:49.72\00:08:52.99 Because the vast majority of the people 00:08:53.02\00:08:55.00 I talk to are of totally oblivious 00:08:55.03\00:08:57.15 to the fulfillment of Bible prophecies 00:08:57.18\00:08:59.81 and when they see things happening 00:08:59.84\00:09:01.47 in the United States of America, 00:09:01.50\00:09:03.19 they say "so what." 00:09:03.22\00:09:05.40 So liberties go to save their securities. 00:09:05.43\00:09:10.48 I think it was Ben Franklin, 00:09:10.51\00:09:12.30 who said those who would trade eternal liberty 00:09:12.33\00:09:15.92 for temporary security deserve 00:09:15.95\00:09:17.99 neither liberty or freedom, liberty or security. 00:09:18.02\00:09:23.11 And you would say from your experience 00:09:23.14\00:09:25.89 that this is taking place today 00:09:25.92\00:09:28.39 in the United States of America. 00:09:28.42\00:09:29.92 Franklin has been so off quoted in the last decade 00:09:29.95\00:09:33.10 because we realize that this is happening. 00:09:33.13\00:09:36.03 We have created the national security state 00:09:36.06\00:09:39.35 and you know by fighting a- so called war on terrorism, 00:09:39.38\00:09:45.46 you know, I mean more Americans die on our highways. 00:09:45.49\00:09:49.70 More Americans die 00:09:49.73\00:09:51.66 because they put a smoking stick in their mouth 00:09:51.69\00:09:55.22 than die from terrorism 00:09:55.25\00:09:57.27 and yet we're giving away our freedoms 00:09:57.30\00:10:00.00 because of the fear of terrorism. 00:10:00.03\00:10:02.71 Wouldn't some people say 00:10:02.74\00:10:04.33 that what you're teaching is dangerous, it's subversive? 00:10:04.36\00:10:09.18 Well, I could be arrested by the military 00:10:09.21\00:10:13.04 and locked up for a long time because- 00:10:13.07\00:10:14.95 But, why? 00:10:14.98\00:10:16.03 I'm dangerous and subversive for questioning authority, 00:10:16.06\00:10:19.49 but my generation 00:10:19.52\00:10:20.80 was the questioning authority generation. 00:10:20.83\00:10:22.88 We're taught to do that weren't we? 00:10:22.91\00:10:24.91 Of course and doesn't the Bible teachers to do that? 00:10:24.94\00:10:28.49 Doesn't Jesus tell us to search out for the truth? 00:10:28.52\00:10:32.23 Doesn't the Bible teach us 00:10:32.26\00:10:33.81 the importance of the individual? 00:10:33.84\00:10:35.96 John- 00:10:35.99\00:10:37.08 That the individual is more important in the state. 00:10:37.11\00:10:39.43 I thought that religion teaches you 00:10:39.46\00:10:41.72 to leave your mind at home 00:10:41.75\00:10:43.67 and just believe what the Church teaches you. 00:10:43.70\00:10:45.26 Well, that's what a lot of people believe, 00:10:45.29\00:10:47.46 check you- you come to church. 00:10:47.49\00:10:48.80 Check your brain at the door. 00:10:48.83\00:10:50.05 Check your brains at the door. 00:10:50.08\00:10:51.74 You know John, I- we talked about 00:10:51.77\00:10:53.85 my own spiritual journey in another program. 00:10:53.88\00:10:56.71 I was raised as a devout secular humanist. 00:10:56.74\00:10:59.90 I was thought to use my brain to rely on reason and logic 00:10:59.93\00:11:04.77 and when I did that I came to the conclusion 00:11:04.80\00:11:07.54 that belief in Jesus was the only thing 00:11:07.57\00:11:09.49 that made sense in this world. 00:11:09.52\00:11:10.56 Absolutely, and I say amen to this. 00:11:10.59\00:11:13.96 Is torture including water boarding 00:11:13.99\00:11:18.39 ever justified to save us? 00:11:18.42\00:11:22.33 No. 00:11:22.36\00:11:23.44 Never justifies. 00:11:23.47\00:11:24.85 The short answer is no, 00:11:24.88\00:11:26.16 but I think there is so much longer answer that's needed. 00:11:26.19\00:11:29.36 There are Americans who think 00:11:29.39\00:11:31.03 and have been deceived by the propaganda 00:11:31.06\00:11:34.16 the torture can be useful. 00:11:34.19\00:11:36.51 I've had church members come to me time after time 00:11:36.54\00:11:40.22 and they've said to me 00:11:40.25\00:11:41.57 "we believe it is justified to carry out torture." 00:11:41.60\00:11:46.49 And I've said to them what about 00:11:46.52\00:11:48.30 what happened in Germany? 00:11:48.33\00:11:50.15 And they've said one lady even said to me 00:11:50.18\00:11:52.92 "if I had been living in Germany in those days, 00:11:52.95\00:11:55.86 I would have gone along with it." 00:11:55.89\00:11:58.58 Yeah, they probably would have. 00:11:58.61\00:12:01.23 You know the FBI has found 00:12:01.26\00:12:04.94 that their interrogation techniques 00:12:04.97\00:12:07.42 which do not use torture are much more effective 00:12:07.45\00:12:12.23 and the latest that's come out in the senate report 00:12:12.26\00:12:15.97 is that the early reports of great successes 00:12:16.00\00:12:20.26 with the use of torture were fabricated. 00:12:20.29\00:12:22.34 And remember this, 00:12:22.37\00:12:24.09 we believe as Protestant Christians 00:12:24.12\00:12:27.47 that the end it does not justify the means. 00:12:27.50\00:12:30.85 I mean, if you want to talk about morality, 00:12:30.88\00:12:32.89 what happened at the golden rule. 00:12:32.92\00:12:34.45 Oh, yeah, I'll torture you 00:12:34.48\00:12:37.25 'cause I don't mind if you torture me, sure. 00:12:37.28\00:12:40.64 Of course, we know that is completely false. 00:12:40.67\00:12:43.35 But the Bible teaches that we should not do evil 00:12:43.38\00:12:47.83 so that good might come. 00:12:47.86\00:12:49.83 That is the teaching of anti-Christ the idea 00:12:49.86\00:12:52.57 that the end somehow justifies the means is abhorrent 00:12:52.60\00:12:57.48 and wrong and therefore 00:12:57.51\00:13:01.06 because we see what is happening in the world today 00:13:01.09\00:13:03.87 and what is happening in America, 00:13:03.90\00:13:05.84 we see that these are fulfilling signs 00:13:05.87\00:13:09.05 a Bible prophecies. 00:13:09.08\00:13:10.54 Bible prophecies are coming to parse. 00:13:10.57\00:13:13.57 They are John, and you know 00:13:13.60\00:13:16.12 it may be that countries to evil at times 00:13:16.15\00:13:20.35 in pursuit of their national ends, 00:13:20.38\00:13:23.19 but one of the biggest problems 00:13:23.22\00:13:25.23 that I see in America's approach to torture 00:13:25.26\00:13:28.59 in the last decade is the attempt to justify it 00:13:28.62\00:13:32.28 and say that it's legal. 00:13:32.31\00:13:34.14 You know a lot of countries will break the law 00:13:34.17\00:13:37.99 and do things that they think are immoral 00:13:38.02\00:13:40.18 and follow this ends justify the means approach 00:13:40.21\00:13:43.34 but they know that they're doing things that are black. 00:13:43.37\00:13:46.66 That are immoral- They're evil. 00:13:46.69\00:13:48.12 That are illegal. Yes. 00:13:48.15\00:13:49.91 Okay, and they make those hard choices 00:13:49.94\00:13:52.03 and they hope that they don't come to light. 00:13:52.06\00:13:54.70 We're doing in the light 00:13:54.73\00:13:56.09 and we're trying to justify what cannot be justified. 00:13:56.12\00:13:58.94 But we have stopped it now. 00:13:58.97\00:14:01.92 So we say, I hope so. 00:14:01.95\00:14:04.75 I would sincerely hope and pray so, 00:14:04.78\00:14:06.72 because torture is abhorrent. 00:14:06.75\00:14:09.96 It goes against the constitution, 00:14:09.99\00:14:12.55 it goes against everything the Bible teaches. 00:14:12.58\00:14:15.75 Alan, would you agree with me 00:14:15.78\00:14:17.50 that our greatest need here in America 00:14:17.53\00:14:20.27 is returned to the faith of our fathers. 00:14:20.30\00:14:22.83 There's no question, spiritual revival 00:14:22.86\00:14:26.35 is absolutely our greatest need. 00:14:26.38\00:14:30.16 Now, we don't want you to go away 00:14:30.19\00:14:32.51 because we got more stuff coming with Alan Reinach 00:14:32.54\00:14:36.08 and its great stuff and you need to hear it 00:14:36.11\00:14:39.05 because we're talking about your religious liberty. 00:14:39.08\00:14:42.00 Now my friend, here is a magazine 00:14:42.03\00:14:44.40 that you want to get and we'll send it to you free. 00:14:44.43\00:14:48.09 It's not going to cost you anything 00:14:48.12\00:14:50.04 but please support the work of God. 00:14:50.07\00:14:52.82 You can have this magnificent magazine 00:14:52.85\00:14:55.33 that talks about many of these issues, 00:14:55.36\00:14:57.37 it is called Ebenezer. 00:14:57.40\00:14:59.85 Please write to me John Carter, 00:14:59.88\00:15:01.53 P.O. Box 1900, Thousand Oaks, CA, 00:16:54.33\00:16:57.65 tell me I'm going to support you. 00:16:57.68\00:17:00.23 Write to me in Australia tell me 00:17:00.26\00:17:02.12 I'm going support the preaching of the gospel. 00:17:02.15\00:17:05.37 Write to me today and support the preaching 00:17:05.40\00:17:08.67 of the Word of God around the world, 00:17:08.70\00:17:12.06 but right now in Latin America, 00:17:12.09\00:17:15.35 thank you and God bless you. 00:17:15.38\00:17:17.50 Welcome back friend, to a super program, 00:17:32.24\00:17:34.89 exciting stuff we're dealing with here today 00:17:34.92\00:17:37.51 with Attorney Alan Reinach. 00:17:37.54\00:17:39.00 We're talking about religious liberty 00:17:39.03\00:17:41.39 and how your freedoms are being threatened right here 00:17:41.42\00:17:45.04 in the land of liberty 00:17:45.07\00:17:46.40 in the United States of America. 00:17:46.43\00:17:48.84 Alan, what made the USA different to those countries 00:17:48.87\00:17:54.63 that had religion in their constitutions? 00:17:54.66\00:17:57.65 For instance, what made American different 00:17:57.68\00:18:00.82 to Catholic spying under Franco, 00:18:00.85\00:18:05.35 Catholic Columbia, 00:18:05.38\00:18:07.52 Muslim Saudi Arabia, Muslim ISIS? 00:18:07.55\00:18:12.60 Very simply John, 00:18:12.63\00:18:14.02 the separation of church and state. 00:18:14.05\00:18:15.87 Tell me about it. 00:18:15.90\00:18:16.96 Well, the basic concept is simple 00:18:16.99\00:18:19.91 and it's not what a lot of Americans think. 00:18:19.94\00:18:22.68 The basic concept is religion 00:18:22.71\00:18:25.26 is not the business of government. 00:18:25.29\00:18:28.72 The government has other responsibilities 00:18:28.75\00:18:31.46 and they have no expertise in matters of faith and belief. 00:18:31.49\00:18:35.40 And so the idea is the state 00:18:35.43\00:18:37.75 stays out of the business of the church 00:18:37.78\00:18:39.84 and the church doesn't govern the state. 00:18:39.87\00:18:42.22 They have their unique spheres 00:18:42.25\00:18:44.29 that they are free to a function end. 00:18:44.32\00:18:46.13 This was the genius 00:18:46.16\00:18:47.78 of the United States of America, am I right. 00:18:47.81\00:18:49.62 And it was a principle of religious freedom. 00:18:49.65\00:18:52.22 Today too many see separation of church and state 00:18:52.25\00:18:55.44 somehow as a threat to religious freedom 00:18:55.47\00:18:57.96 but not as it was originally understood. 00:18:57.99\00:19:00.04 But the church never prospers 00:19:00.07\00:19:02.19 when the state gets involved with it. 00:19:02.22\00:19:04.63 You know, it's basically a form of socialism. 00:19:04.66\00:19:07.45 And if you think about, 00:19:07.48\00:19:08.67 you know our attitudes about welfare 00:19:08.70\00:19:11.44 and how it's sap initiative and vitality. 00:19:11.47\00:19:14.34 Which it does. 00:19:14.37\00:19:15.47 Well, when you put the church on the public dole 00:19:15.50\00:19:18.98 and have tax dollars pay for the church well, 00:19:19.01\00:19:22.82 the church is like a welfare cheat. 00:19:22.85\00:19:25.60 Now you take ISIS 00:19:25.63\00:19:26.66 they want set up a Muslim state. 00:19:26.69\00:19:28.23 Yes. We believe its evil. 00:19:28.26\00:19:30.58 What real difference is there from those Christians here 00:19:30.61\00:19:35.29 in the United States of America 00:19:35.32\00:19:37.11 who want to have a Christian American state. 00:19:37.14\00:19:40.73 Well, I certainly don't think that there are many Christians 00:19:40.76\00:19:45.41 if any here in America 00:19:45.44\00:19:47.31 who are prepared to tell nonbelievers 00:19:47.34\00:19:50.17 that they have to convert or die. 00:19:50.20\00:19:51.94 Oh, no, of course not. 00:19:51.97\00:19:53.07 I don't think that Americans who are there yet. 00:19:53.10\00:19:54.80 No, no, no, but what about 00:19:54.83\00:19:55.91 talking about a Christian state. 00:19:55.94\00:19:58.60 Well, I do think in principle 00:19:58.63\00:20:01.24 we should take a page from Saudi Arabia 00:20:01.27\00:20:04.25 and other countries like Iran 00:20:04.28\00:20:06.47 where church and state or mosque and state 00:20:06.50\00:20:09.17 are very much are working together 00:20:09.20\00:20:12.41 to realize that the freedom that we have 00:20:12.44\00:20:15.72 is because we don't give the state jurisdiction 00:20:15.75\00:20:19.63 over the church. 00:20:19.66\00:20:21.43 Alan, this is a tough one and the answers 00:20:21.46\00:20:23.91 you're giving are not good, 00:20:23.94\00:20:25.96 they're very good and I do appreciate them. 00:20:25.99\00:20:31.04 Is the US government entering into the realms a religion 00:20:31.07\00:20:35.39 when it declares itself the gay marriage, 00:20:35.42\00:20:39.10 the man having sex with man 00:20:39.13\00:20:42.25 and women having sex with women? 00:20:42.28\00:20:45.83 Is it pontificating in matters that belong to the church 00:20:45.86\00:20:51.26 or does the government have the right to tell people 00:20:51.29\00:20:55.23 what they ought to do in these things? 00:20:55.26\00:20:57.06 You know, this is a very confusing area 00:20:57.09\00:21:00.03 for many people, John. 00:21:00.06\00:21:01.91 And I think there's a difference between 00:21:01.94\00:21:04.43 the religious freedom analysis 00:21:04.46\00:21:07.31 and the moral and social policy analysis. 00:21:07.34\00:21:11.91 Let's start with this, 00:21:11.94\00:21:13.36 because we have relationships that dissolve 00:21:13.39\00:21:17.92 and financial needs, needs of children. 00:21:17.95\00:21:20.84 The state has jurisdiction over marriage. 00:21:20.87\00:21:23.12 Civil rights. 00:21:23.15\00:21:24.38 You know marriage initially began 00:21:24.41\00:21:26.87 as a holy religious institution but, 00:21:26.90\00:21:30.96 you know, you talk to people 00:21:30.99\00:21:32.22 when their relationships dissolve 00:21:32.25\00:21:35.90 somebody's got to come and decide 00:21:35.93\00:21:38.79 is somebody gonna support the other one. 00:21:38.82\00:21:40.92 How are the kids going to be supported, 00:21:40.95\00:21:42.81 who has custody of the kids? 00:21:42.84\00:21:44.72 So the state has legitimate jurisdiction 00:21:44.75\00:21:47.84 over the subjective marriage. 00:21:47.87\00:21:49.79 Now one of the problems, 00:21:49.82\00:21:51.62 when the states began to vote in the courts actually 00:21:51.65\00:21:57.04 at first began to bring in same-sex marriage 00:21:57.07\00:22:00.63 is they would spend hundreds of pages 00:22:00.66\00:22:03.66 describing the fundamental right to marry, 00:22:03.69\00:22:06.01 which nobody disagrees with. 00:22:06.04\00:22:07.84 There is a fundamental right to marry. 00:22:07.87\00:22:10.13 The problem is they never really decided 00:22:10.16\00:22:12.57 what is marriage in the first place? 00:22:12.60\00:22:14.71 And here's the crux of the thing, 00:22:14.74\00:22:16.66 in order for us to have are stable healthy marriages 00:22:16.69\00:22:21.58 as the building blocks of society 00:22:21.61\00:22:23.92 we need a culture that supports marriage. 00:22:23.95\00:22:26.94 Now our culture with no fault divorce 00:22:26.97\00:22:30.33 with the welfare society that means 00:22:30.36\00:22:33.60 that when men lose their jobs 00:22:33.63\00:22:36.68 and become unemployed the women and children 00:22:36.71\00:22:39.44 don't get support unless the men 00:22:39.47\00:22:41.60 move out of the home with the bringing 00:22:41.63\00:22:44.88 in of same-sex marriage and turning marriage 00:22:44.91\00:22:48.12 into a matter of sexual pleasure 00:22:48.15\00:22:51.07 of convenience rather than principle. 00:22:51.10\00:22:54.38 We have, as a society greatly destroyed 00:22:54.41\00:22:57.80 the culture of marriage. 00:22:57.83\00:22:58.95 So this is the secularization of society? 00:22:58.98\00:23:01.81 Yes. 00:23:01.84\00:23:02.87 So it not so much the government is it? 00:23:02.90\00:23:04.44 No. And society? 00:23:04.47\00:23:06.36 Well, government really 00:23:06.39\00:23:07.59 if you think about it the State is following suit. 00:23:07.62\00:23:10.56 It's reflecting society. 00:23:10.59\00:23:12.53 Correct. 00:23:12.56\00:23:15.17 But of course, you and I as Bible believing Christians, 00:23:15.20\00:23:18.19 we believe in the marriage 00:23:18.22\00:23:20.48 that is taught in the scriptures 00:23:20.51\00:23:22.12 between a man and a woman. 00:23:22.15\00:23:23.68 That's what marriage is. 00:23:23.71\00:23:25.59 And the State can try to redefine it 00:23:25.62\00:23:27.50 but that doesn't change the reality. 00:23:27.53\00:23:29.41 So same-sex marriage is an oxymoron? 00:23:29.44\00:23:31.54 Yes, it is. 00:23:31.57\00:23:32.66 But having said that, we love gay people, 00:23:32.69\00:23:36.82 we respect them, 00:23:36.85\00:23:38.14 and we believe they should have their civil rights. 00:23:38.17\00:23:40.99 But as Christians, 00:23:41.02\00:23:42.67 we believe that we've got some rights also. 00:23:42.70\00:23:45.37 And you know the crux of the problem, 00:23:45.40\00:23:47.46 when it comes to religious freedom 00:23:47.49\00:23:49.17 is that it's become a zero-sum game 00:23:49.20\00:23:51.68 where either the society is going to protect 00:23:51.71\00:23:54.82 the rights to the LGBT community, 00:23:54.85\00:23:57.01 Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Community 00:23:57.04\00:24:00.05 or the rights of religious freedom but not both. 00:24:00.08\00:24:03.27 And that really both, 00:24:03.30\00:24:05.16 there's now kind of a war going on 00:24:05.19\00:24:07.47 whether it's gonna be religious freedom or sexual freedom. 00:24:07.50\00:24:10.69 Yes, and so this is an indictment, 00:24:10.72\00:24:13.85 I think of our society 00:24:13.88\00:24:15.79 and I believe these things have been prophesied in the Bible. 00:24:15.82\00:24:18.71 Do you believe that Christians 00:24:18.74\00:24:21.02 and other believers Jewish believes, 00:24:21.05\00:24:23.03 Muslim believers and so forth 00:24:23.06\00:24:24.84 have the right to practice their faith 00:24:24.87\00:24:26.90 without government interference 00:24:26.93\00:24:29.03 and I asked this question because, Dr. Billy Graham, 00:24:29.06\00:24:32.88 who has been called "The Conscience American" 00:24:32.91\00:24:35.54 said a little while ago 00:24:35.57\00:24:37.18 Christians can expect to be persecuted 00:24:37.21\00:24:40.19 by their own government here in the United States. 00:24:40.22\00:24:42.82 Look, basic principle of religious freedom 00:24:42.85\00:24:46.30 is everybody has the right to their belief, 00:24:46.33\00:24:48.88 to their worship, to practice their faith. 00:24:48.91\00:24:51.16 But we also have the saying 00:24:51.19\00:24:53.12 you know my rights end 00:24:53.15\00:24:54.88 when my fist approaches your nose. 00:24:54.91\00:24:56.98 Absolutely. 00:24:57.01\00:24:58.26 The question is, 00:24:58.29\00:24:59.39 is my practice of my religion harming somebody else 00:24:59.42\00:25:03.32 and at times rights do come into conflict 00:25:03.35\00:25:07.35 and the courts have to figure out 00:25:07.38\00:25:09.34 can we protect everybody's rights and if not, 00:25:09.37\00:25:12.90 how do we resolve conflicts. 00:25:12.93\00:25:15.54 Now we're gonna run out of time, 00:25:15.57\00:25:17.01 so I'll need to get a quick answer to this question 00:25:17.04\00:25:21.39 Revelation 13 talks about a situation 00:25:21.42\00:25:27.09 that arises in the world 00:25:27.12\00:25:29.26 where church and state come together 00:25:29.29\00:25:32.52 and an image to the beast to set up 00:25:32.55\00:25:35.44 which we believe is the coalition 00:25:35.47\00:25:37.83 of church and state. 00:25:37.86\00:25:39.66 Do you believe that this could be coming soon, 00:25:39.69\00:25:44.18 is it just around the corner? 00:25:44.21\00:25:46.83 Yes, is the short answer. 00:25:46.86\00:25:49.16 I started with this illustration 00:25:49.19\00:25:52.14 from the roadrunner 00:25:52.17\00:25:53.20 that the constitutional foundations have disappeared. 00:25:53.23\00:25:55.88 It's gone, it's gone. 00:25:55.91\00:25:57.17 So the courts and our legislatures 00:25:57.20\00:26:01.58 here in America are all too willing 00:26:01.61\00:26:04.71 to see the government involved in religion. 00:26:04.74\00:26:08.41 It's just that simple. 00:26:08.44\00:26:10.51 And so we ought to be saying today 00:26:10.54\00:26:13.22 to the American people and the Australian people 00:26:13.25\00:26:15.71 and everybody else watching, 00:26:15.74\00:26:18.03 it's time for you to get back to God, 00:26:18.06\00:26:19.81 it's time for you to read the Bible, 00:26:19.84\00:26:21.72 it's time for you to stand up for the faith 00:26:21.75\00:26:24.73 that was once delivered to the saints. 00:26:24.76\00:26:26.87 Amen to that, John. 00:26:26.90\00:26:28.11 And Alan, it's been a privilege to have you with us today 00:26:28.14\00:26:31.88 and it's been a privilege to have you to my friend, 00:26:31.91\00:26:34.61 watching out there in television land. 00:26:34.64\00:26:37.26 Please write to me, would you?
