He is very big. 00:06:57.26\00:06:58.80 So get out to Hawaii. 00:06:58.83\00:07:00.57 It takes us where we're at? 00:07:00.60\00:07:02.58 Yeah, yes. So you go to Hawaii? 00:07:06.62\00:07:09.29 This man preaches the gospel to you. 00:07:09.32\00:07:11.73 First thing he says to me out is, Alan, 00:07:11.76\00:07:13.73 how do you know right form wrong? 00:07:13.76\00:07:15.39 Thought about it for-- 00:07:15.42\00:07:16.50 Oh, very good question. 00:07:16.53\00:07:17.69 I thought about it for five minutes, 00:07:17.72\00:07:19.35 I finally answered and said, I just know. 00:07:19.38\00:07:23.77 I can't tell you how I know. 00:07:23.80\00:07:25.96 And then he starts to explain the Ten Commandments 00:07:25.99\00:07:28.35 and how God gave us commandments 00:07:28.38\00:07:30.85 to teach us right wrong, 00:07:30.88\00:07:32.47 and you know that was a new thought to me, 00:07:32.50\00:07:34.61 I never thought about it that way. 00:07:34.64\00:07:35.98 You know, how C. S. Lewis found his way to God? 00:07:36.01\00:07:39.89 The great Oxford scholar. 00:07:39.92\00:07:41.13 I don't. 00:07:41.16\00:07:42.22 Well, he was on the frontline, 00:07:42.25\00:07:44.41 he was in the trenches during the First World War. 00:07:44.44\00:07:47.45 He was an agnos-- no he was an atheist. 00:07:47.48\00:07:50.60 And when he was out there, this British scholar 00:07:50.63\00:07:53.60 one of the England's greatest scholars 00:07:53.63\00:07:56.05 pounded the question, 00:07:56.08\00:07:58.63 why does man have an in aid sense of right and wrong? 00:07:58.66\00:08:04.36 This was the question, 00:08:04.39\00:08:05.73 he wrote about this also in his book, 00:08:05.76\00:08:07.36 Mere Christianity, 00:08:07.39\00:08:08.83 that there is in every person 00:08:08.86\00:08:10.60 an innate sense of right and wrong, 00:08:10.63\00:08:12.62 and this said, he said well this has to go back 00:08:12.65\00:08:16.32 to the source of truth and that's how he found God. 00:08:16.35\00:08:20.84 And so you found God, did you find God in Hawaii? 00:08:20.87\00:08:24.36 I did, and at that point I was receptive, 00:08:24.39\00:08:27.59 but I was also very concerned 00:08:27.62\00:08:29.37 because when I was a teenager was the age of the cult. 00:08:29.40\00:08:33.65 And a lot of people including some people 00:08:33.68\00:08:35.60 I was very close to got caught up in cults. 00:08:35.63\00:08:38.78 And the problem of course aside from the fact that, 00:08:38.81\00:08:41.56 they were teaching strange things was that 00:08:41.59\00:08:43.72 once you got in, 00:08:43.75\00:08:44.83 it was very difficult to get out. 00:08:44.86\00:08:47.86 I was very cautious. And you needed to be. 00:08:47.89\00:08:51.25 Getting into something that I couldn't get out off. 00:08:51.28\00:08:54.43 So when after we were studying the Bible 00:08:54.46\00:08:58.37 and reading together and talking about God, 00:08:58.40\00:09:01.30 I experienced the presence of God 00:09:01.33\00:09:05.09 that really took me by surprise 00:09:05.12\00:09:07.66 and I kind of had an argument with myself. 00:09:07.69\00:09:09.99 What's wrong with you Alan, you're believing this stuff? 00:09:10.02\00:09:14.19 You know, what Saint Augustine said, 00:09:14.22\00:09:16.00 the great Roman caustic theologian, 00:09:16.03\00:09:17.95 he said our soul were made for God, 00:09:17.98\00:09:21.59 and I cannot rest until they rest in Him. 00:09:21.62\00:09:24.83 So in the heart of every man there is a big hole, 00:09:24.86\00:09:29.53 and only God can fill that hole. 00:09:29.56\00:09:31.36 And so God was filling up the hole in your life. 00:09:31.39\00:09:34.27 It's true. 00:09:34.30\00:09:35.33 And so today, you are a Jewish brother 00:09:35.36\00:09:40.07 like all the brothers in the Bible, 00:09:40.10\00:09:41.93 because I would Jewish people. 00:09:41.96\00:09:43.36 All the Bible writers except one were Jewish. 00:09:43.39\00:09:46.13 Yes, that was probably Luke. 00:09:46.16\00:09:47.31 Yeah. 00:09:47.34\00:09:48.81 All the gospel writers with exception of Luke, 00:09:48.84\00:09:52.30 greatest Jew of course was beside our Lord 00:09:52.33\00:09:55.48 was the great apostle Paul, the great scholar 00:09:55.51\00:09:58.05 who gave us the Book of Romans. 00:09:58.08\00:09:59.65 It's a Jewish lawyer, man after my own heart. 00:09:59.68\00:10:01.53 Yeah, because they said about the Book of Romans, 00:10:01.56\00:10:04.46 it is the greatest masterpiece of the human mind 00:10:04.49\00:10:07.31 has ever conceived all realized. 00:10:07.34\00:10:09.97 And so the Spirit of God took this Jewish mind, 00:10:10.00\00:10:13.80 the mind of an attorney, a lawyer, 00:10:13.83\00:10:16.40 one of the most brilliant minds in the history of the world 00:10:16.43\00:10:19.34 and produced the Book of Romans. 00:10:19.37\00:10:21.83 It's amazing, isn't it? 00:10:21.86\00:10:23.40 That God takes us frail, faulty, sinful human beings. 00:10:23.43\00:10:28.04 Tyndale, said its good, glad and merry tidings 00:10:28.07\00:10:30.48 that makes a man heart to sing for joy 00:10:30.51\00:10:33.15 and his feet to dance. 00:10:33.18\00:10:35.07 Now, that's the Book of Romans 00:10:35.10\00:10:36.37 that came from a mind of Jewish attorney, 00:10:36.40\00:10:40.32 a mind that was inspired by the Holy Spirit, amen. 00:10:40.35\00:10:46.33 What sort of work are you doing now? 00:10:46.36\00:10:48.75 So, for 20 years I have been privileged 00:10:48.78\00:10:52.10 to service as director of the Church State Council, 00:10:52.13\00:10:54.99 and to devote my career 00:10:55.02\00:10:56.86 to the cause of religious freedom. 00:10:56.89\00:10:59.38 And you live here in Southern California, 00:10:59.41\00:11:01.67 no longer in the great city of New York? 00:11:01.70\00:11:04.29 You know, it's a tough transition. 00:11:04.32\00:11:06.44 We all have to make sacrifices for the Lord. 00:11:06.47\00:11:09.99 But you can't argue about the climate here. 00:11:10.02\00:11:12.62 No, no, no, all the smug. 00:11:12.65\00:11:16.50 The church state council, have I got it right? 00:11:16.53\00:11:20.25 You do, celebrating our 50th anniversary this year. 00:11:20.28\00:11:24.31 The oldest. Congratulations. 00:11:24.34\00:11:26.52 Public interest and legal services 00:11:26.55\00:11:30.03 our organization in the west, devoted to religious freedom. 00:11:30.06\00:11:34.27 So this consumes you, this is you work? 00:11:34.30\00:11:36.74 It is. 00:11:36.77\00:11:37.87 Do you see now, 00:11:37.90\00:11:40.11 I don't want you to rush this answer 00:11:40.14\00:11:41.70 because it is a very important question. 00:11:41.73\00:11:45.56 Do you see today that our liberties 00:11:45.59\00:11:48.11 are being threatened here in the land of freedom 00:11:48.14\00:11:51.85 in the United States of America? 00:11:51.88\00:11:53.93 They are, but, you know, 00:11:53.96\00:11:55.71 we have to put this in perspective first John, 00:11:55.74\00:11:58.05 before we look at the erosion of our freedoms 00:11:58.08\00:12:01.95 76% of the global population live in counties with little 00:12:01.98\00:12:06.94 or no religious freedom. 00:12:06.97\00:12:08.92 And as we are sitting here, 00:12:08.95\00:12:10.70 you know, the Christian communist 00:12:10.73\00:12:11.94 in Iraq is decimated 00:12:11.97\00:12:14.57 being told that they have convert or die. 00:12:14.60\00:12:17.75 So yes, we have our unique challenge here. 00:12:17.78\00:12:21.59 Tell me more about this. 00:12:21.62\00:12:23.38 Tell me about the situation of our brothers and sisters 00:12:23.41\00:12:28.10 and our Jewish brothers and sisters. 00:12:28.13\00:12:30.32 We're not just talking about Christians 00:12:30.35\00:12:32.38 we're talking about Jewish brothers and sisters in Iraq. 00:12:32.41\00:12:36.59 The Jewish community was decimated 00:12:36.62\00:12:40.68 after the American invasion and the turmoil 00:12:40.71\00:12:44.23 that came after the second Gulf war, 00:12:44.26\00:12:47.53 there's virtually no Jews left in Iraq. 00:12:47.56\00:12:50.69 What a tragedy. 00:12:50.72\00:12:52.81 Some of the other nations where Jews-- 00:12:52.84\00:12:55.11 Middle Eastern countries have emptied out 00:12:55.14\00:12:57.61 their Jewish populations 00:12:57.64\00:12:59.43 after the state of Israel was founded. 00:12:59.46\00:13:02.00 So the diaspora that has been Judaism 00:13:02.03\00:13:05.91 for 2,000 years is shrinking, 00:13:05.94\00:13:08.40 and the number of countries 00:13:08.43\00:13:09.69 that are receptive to Jews is shrinking. 00:13:09.72\00:13:12.17 Anti-Semitism is on the rise in Europe, 00:13:12.20\00:13:16.72 synagogues being defaced 00:13:16.75\00:13:18.42 in countries like France and violent attacks. 00:13:18.45\00:13:21.86 I had the privilege of going to Iraq 00:13:21.89\00:13:23.97 on the number of occasions. 00:13:24.00\00:13:26.17 And when I went to Iraq before the war, 00:13:26.20\00:13:30.17 I had the privilege of preaching 00:13:30.20\00:13:31.86 in a great Christian church down town. 00:13:31.89\00:13:34.52 That Christian church is no longer there 00:13:34.55\00:13:36.77 and virtually all of the Christians 00:13:36.80\00:13:38.69 have been chased out of that part of the world, 00:13:38.72\00:13:41.72 and 60,000 Christians have been 00:13:41.75\00:13:44.50 forced out of the city of Nineveh, the city of Mosul. 00:13:44.53\00:13:48.45 Right. 00:13:48.48\00:13:49.80 And we are going to talk Alan, you and I after the break, 00:13:49.83\00:13:53.15 we're going to talk about religious liberty 00:13:53.18\00:13:55.89 being threatened here also in the United States. 00:13:55.92\00:14:01.15 And I want you to stay tuned 00:14:01.18\00:14:03.46 because we're going to come back in a few moments, 00:14:03.49\00:14:06.68 we've got here with us in our studio 00:14:06.71\00:14:09.21 Attorney Alan Reinach 00:14:09.24\00:14:11.37 and we're going to be talking about your religious liberties 00:14:11.40\00:14:15.46 and how they're being threatened right here 00:14:15.49\00:14:19.81 in the United States of America. 00:14:19.84\00:14:21.57 Stay with us. 00:14:21.60\00:14:23.16 Did you ever have a sense of destiny? 00:14:25.74\00:14:29.31 Did you ever feel that God has put His hand upon you 00:14:29.34\00:14:31.99 for some tremendous task that you really got a purpose, 00:14:32.02\00:14:36.47 that God is called you for such a time as this? 00:14:36.50\00:14:40.49 I have that sense, that conviction today 00:14:40.52\00:14:44.03 because God is opening up doors for us in Latin America. 00:14:44.06\00:14:49.26 And in Latin America, my good friend, 00:14:49.29\00:14:52.13 there is a revolution going on. 00:14:52.16\00:14:54.67 It's not a revolution in the streets. 00:14:54.70\00:14:57.36 It is a revolution in the hearts of men and women. 00:14:57.39\00:15:03.58 That's why the Carter Report is going to go to El Salvador. 00:15:03.61\00:15:08.64 We are renting an outdoor stadium 00:15:08.67\00:15:10.63 with room for more than 60,000 souls. 00:15:10.66\00:15:15.92 And we're planning a baptism in the-- 00:15:15.95\00:15:17.92 on the Sabbath afternoon of more than 00:15:17.95\00:15:20.37 5,000 born again souls in El Salvador, 00:15:20.40\00:15:26.70 in Latin America, 00:15:26.73\00:15:28.98 where there is a revolution going on, 00:15:29.01\00:15:30.88 where the Holy Spirit is being poured out. 00:15:30.91\00:15:33.48 Don't you want to be a part of this great purpose, 00:15:33.51\00:15:39.35 this great task, this God designed outreach, 00:15:39.38\00:15:44.77 the Latin America. 00:15:44.80\00:15:47.01 Would you please write to me, John Carter, 00:15:47.04\00:15:48.66 Post Office Box 1900, Thousand Oaks, California. 00:15:48.69\00:15:52.09 Tell me, I'm going to support you. 00:15:59.82\00:16:03.22 of the Word of God around the world 00:16:03.25\00:16:06.29 but right now in Latin America. 00:16:06.32\00:16:09.79 Thank you and God bless you. 00:16:09.82\00:16:11.35 Hi friend, welcome back to the Carte Report. 00:16:26.61\00:16:28.78 This is an exciting program, 00:16:28.81\00:16:31.34 is dealing with religious liberty issues 00:16:31.37\00:16:35.81 in the world today and especially here 00:16:35.84\00:16:38.83 in the United States of America. 00:16:38.86\00:16:40.93 My great guest is, Alan Reinach, an attorney 00:16:40.96\00:16:43.51 who defends the rights of individual's right here 00:16:43.54\00:16:47.55 and who defends religious liberty. 00:16:47.58\00:16:50.36 But before I talk to Alan, I want to tell you, 00:16:50.39\00:16:52.69 upfront about this magazine its called Ebenezer. 00:16:52.72\00:16:57.02 It is the magazine that the Carte Report puts out, 00:16:57.05\00:17:00.46 it's full of great stories, 00:17:00.49\00:17:03.19 some of them may be a little controversial, 00:17:03.22\00:17:06.26 but that doesn't matter because it's all true. 00:17:06.29\00:17:09.14 Here's an article Nothing Too Hard for God from Russia. 00:17:09.17\00:17:14.55 An amazing magazine 00:17:14.58\00:17:16.00 and you can get it by writing to me 00:17:16.03\00:17:17.79 or by emailing me, you could write me. 00:17:17.82\00:17:20.71 We are gonna put the address up on the screen for a moment 00:17:20.74\00:17:24.78 and we want to give you this magazine. 00:17:24.81\00:17:26.45 How much does it cost? 00:17:26.48\00:17:28.73 Well, as I say, just for today it's free. 00:17:28.76\00:17:32.57 Now it's yours my friend, if you write to me 00:17:32.60\00:17:35.45 and remember the work of God 00:17:35.48\00:17:37.13 in your prayers and in your giving. 00:17:37.16\00:17:40.56 Alan, thank you for being our guest today. 00:17:40.59\00:17:43.25 You are a great guest and we appreciate you. 00:17:43.28\00:17:47.06 We're talking about religious liberty 00:17:47.09\00:17:48.82 and we are talking-- we were talking a moment ago, 00:17:48.85\00:17:51.43 before we had this little break 00:17:51.46\00:17:53.13 we were talking about the situation in Iraq, 00:17:53.16\00:17:56.86 we were talking about Mosul, 00:17:56.89\00:17:59.02 which is where the old city of Nineveh is. 00:17:59.05\00:18:02.40 I had been there on a number of occasions. 00:18:02.43\00:18:05.26 Tell me, what you know 00:18:05.29\00:18:06.34 about the situation over there today. 00:18:06.37\00:18:09.35 For believer-- Christian believers 00:18:09.38\00:18:11.56 and for Jewish believers. 00:18:11.59\00:18:13.23 Well, the Christians were essentially put to the choice, 00:18:13.26\00:18:18.05 convert or die or run 00:18:18.08\00:18:19.91 or were completely run out of Mosul, they were robbed. 00:18:19.94\00:18:23.86 Many of them are now refuges in Kurdish controlled areas. 00:18:23.89\00:18:28.58 There is another minority, 00:18:28.61\00:18:31.32 that I'm gonna mispronounce the Yazidis-- 00:18:31.35\00:18:33.61 Pretty good, I would say. 00:18:33.64\00:18:34.85 Have been hold up in and, 00:18:34.88\00:18:38.59 and I mean ethnic cleansing is what we are-- 00:18:38.62\00:18:40.64 Dreadful. 00:18:40.67\00:18:41.71 We really talking about 00:18:41.74\00:18:43.65 and it's, it's kind of return to what 00:18:43.68\00:18:46.16 we read about in the history books. 00:18:46.19\00:18:48.07 We thought this was done away with in the time of crusades. 00:18:48.10\00:18:52.43 You know, 1,000 years ago and it's come right back at us. 00:18:52.46\00:18:56.44 The interesting thing of course is that in the crusades, 00:18:56.47\00:18:59.03 the Christians were doing the killing. 00:18:59.06\00:19:01.09 Well, both sides were killing each other, 00:19:01.12\00:19:03.36 sometimes Christians won, sometimes the Muslims won. 00:19:03.39\00:19:06.40 Yes, that the spirit of intolerance, hatred 00:19:06.43\00:19:10.32 as shown in these unspeakable acts 00:19:10.35\00:19:12.57 and then we hardly heard recently about 00:19:12.60\00:19:14.93 how the American journalist was actually beheaded. 00:19:14.96\00:19:19.76 The president said, 00:19:19.79\00:19:21.06 no, just God can condone this evil behavior. 00:19:21.09\00:19:26.55 You know, John, I'm convinced 00:19:26.58\00:19:28.89 that most of the world worships in a religion 00:19:28.92\00:19:32.99 that regards God as violent and oppressive. 00:19:33.02\00:19:36.92 Yes. 00:19:36.95\00:19:38.36 Now, most of us don't conceive 00:19:38.39\00:19:41.44 of this kind of act of violence of beheading somebody 00:19:41.47\00:19:44.83 as consistent with our religious values, 00:19:44.86\00:19:47.36 but you know, what I call mark 00:19:47.39\00:19:49.85 of the beast religion is well naive in reversal. 00:19:49.88\00:19:52.06 Yes, it is. 00:19:52.09\00:19:53.12 You know, it's my way or the high way. 00:19:53.15\00:19:54.43 Yes, indeed. 00:19:54.46\00:19:55.66 You know, this what we were seeing in Mosul 00:19:55.69\00:19:57.93 is an extreme form of the kind 00:19:57.96\00:20:00.92 of intolerance that's prevalent. 00:20:00.95\00:20:02.95 A religious intolerance. 00:20:02.98\00:20:04.48 Many people and many different religions 00:20:04.51\00:20:06.68 and putting Christian feel, okay, I have got it 00:20:06.71\00:20:09.41 and if you don't have it the way I do, 00:20:09.44\00:20:12.11 you don't deserve to have your rights, 00:20:12.14\00:20:14.20 and certainly God's going to condemn you 00:20:14.23\00:20:16.90 to eternal torment. 00:20:16.93\00:20:19.29 So, you made the very valid point 00:20:19.32\00:20:21.09 during our last segment that religious liberty 00:20:21.12\00:20:24.31 is not something we can take for granted 00:20:24.34\00:20:26.80 because, I think you said 70% of the world-- 00:20:26.83\00:20:29.86 Seventy six percent live in countries 00:20:29.89\00:20:32.52 with little or no religious freedom. 00:20:32.55\00:20:34.65 Which means, if you are of the majority faith, 00:20:34.68\00:20:37.41 you're free to practice your faith 00:20:37.44\00:20:38.89 but if you are not, 00:20:38.92\00:20:40.51 you are not free to practice your faith 00:20:40.54\00:20:42.20 and if, if you want to change your religion 00:20:42.23\00:20:44.23 from that of the majority, you are not free either. 00:20:44.26\00:20:46.94 So, that takes in virtually 00:20:46.97\00:20:48.58 all of the Middle Eastern countries. 00:20:48.61\00:20:50.96 And it takes in that vast country of China. 00:20:50.99\00:20:55.98 And it takes in to a lesser extent Russia 00:20:56.01\00:20:59.75 and it certainly takes in India 00:20:59.78\00:21:02.65 where Christians are persecuted because of their faith. 00:21:02.68\00:21:05.10 There is quite a bit of prosecution in India 00:21:05.13\00:21:07.70 by Hindu nationalists, that's true. 00:21:07.73\00:21:10.68 Let me come back to the question, 00:21:10.71\00:21:11.93 I asked you before. 00:21:11.96\00:21:13.35 Do you believe that here in America, 00:21:13.38\00:21:16.31 in the land of freedom 00:21:16.34\00:21:18.85 that religious liberty is being threatened? 00:21:18.88\00:21:21.56 Do you see it as a threat on the horizon? 00:21:21.59\00:21:24.02 I do, and some years back John, 00:21:24.05\00:21:27.25 I came up with a, an illustration to-- 00:21:27.28\00:21:31.96 you know, they say a picture is worth a thousand words. 00:21:31.99\00:21:34.68 Yes. 00:21:34.71\00:21:36.00 You know, I can talk-- 00:21:36.03\00:21:37.86 and I will talk about the principles 00:21:37.89\00:21:40.47 and the constitutional issues, 00:21:40.50\00:21:42.36 but I want to put it in a picture for our listeners. 00:21:42.39\00:21:45.40 Everybody seen the Road Runner cartoon 00:21:45.43\00:21:48.67 and we have seen Wile E. Coyote chasing the Road Runner. 00:21:48.70\00:21:51.98 And then the Road Runner stops 00:21:52.01\00:21:53.31 and Wile E. Coyote goes sailing out 00:21:53.34\00:21:55.94 over the edge of the cliff. 00:21:55.97\00:21:58.04 And he sailing out there keeps going his little legs, 00:21:58.07\00:22:00.94 you know, going like this and then comes that moment 00:22:00.97\00:22:04.62 when he realizes 00:22:04.65\00:22:06.18 there is nothing underneath him. 00:22:06.21\00:22:08.24 And there is that pregnant pause 00:22:08.27\00:22:10.36 before Wile E. Coyote crashes into the abyss. 00:22:10.39\00:22:14.23 Well, when it comes to our First Amendment rights John, 00:22:14.26\00:22:18.03 the foundations have crumble, 00:22:18.06\00:22:19.89 the legal of the constitutional foundation 00:22:19.92\00:22:22.17 even the social foundation-- 00:22:22.20\00:22:24.00 Let's stop there because, you making 00:22:24.03\00:22:25.98 a tremendous statement. 00:22:26.01\00:22:27.96 Well, but let me finish the matter for, for second. 00:22:27.99\00:22:29.87 Okay. 00:22:29.90\00:22:30.93 We have sailed out over the edge of the abyss, 00:22:30.96\00:22:34.18 we are hanging out in thin air. 00:22:34.21\00:22:36.31 We don't as a-- as a society, 00:22:36.34\00:22:38.61 we don't realize, 00:22:38.64\00:22:40.67 that there is nothing underneath us anymore. 00:22:40.70\00:22:42.62 You think it's a serious as that? 00:22:42.65\00:22:44.26 I do. 00:22:44.29\00:22:45.36 You say that our freedom foundation 00:22:45.39\00:22:50.86 is eroded, it's going. 00:22:50.89\00:22:52.88 So this sort I probably, this is reality. 00:22:52.91\00:22:55.29 Let me give you a little bit of substance of this. 00:22:55.32\00:22:59.15 The basic principle that we base our freedom on us, 00:22:59.18\00:23:02.29 the idea that government is founded 00:23:02.32\00:23:05.36 to protect our fundamental rights. 00:23:05.39\00:23:07.90 That the Bill of Rights, innumerate's not all of them, 00:23:07.93\00:23:11.34 but some of our most important rights 00:23:11.37\00:23:13.68 and that the government 00:23:13.71\00:23:14.77 is supposed to protect these rights 00:23:14.80\00:23:16.20 and especially the courts 00:23:16.23\00:23:17.84 are supposed to protect their rights 00:23:17.87\00:23:19.90 from the trinity of the majority. 00:23:19.93\00:23:22.69 That minority rights are prospective-- 00:23:22.72\00:23:24.25 This is when America is supposed to stand for. 00:23:24.28\00:23:26.22 Correct, so what happens when the Supreme Court says, 00:23:26.25\00:23:30.79 we will no longer apply the First Amendment 00:23:30.82\00:23:33.68 to protect minority rights. 00:23:33.71\00:23:35.66 If you as a religious minority want protection 00:23:35.69\00:23:38.54 for your interests, you have to get it voted 00:23:38.57\00:23:41.18 by Congress or by the state legislature 00:23:41.21\00:23:44.39 and get an exemption for you voted, 00:23:44.42\00:23:47.18 because we no longer apply broad protection 00:23:47.21\00:23:50.36 under the constitution. 00:23:50.39\00:23:51.94 Is this actually happened? 00:23:51.97\00:23:53.19 1990 employment division against Smith, 00:23:53.22\00:23:56.08 the infamous peyote case 00:23:56.11\00:23:58.29 where Justice Antonin Scalia described 00:23:58.32\00:24:00.93 First Amendment protection for our religious freedom, 00:24:00.96\00:24:03.53 as a court luxury, 00:24:03.56\00:24:05.41 that a well ordered society can no longer afford. 00:24:05.44\00:24:08.44 That's how Justice Blackmun characterized it in descend. 00:24:08.47\00:24:11.56 Is this a reputation of Americanism 00:24:11.59\00:24:16.24 and the Bill of Rights? 00:24:16.27\00:24:17.51 I believe it is. 00:24:17.54\00:24:19.04 And you know, my view among legal scholars 00:24:19.07\00:24:22.79 who deal with religious liberty is certainly not remarkable. 00:24:22.82\00:24:28.10 I mean, this is widely understood among scholars. 00:24:28.13\00:24:31.11 Now mind you the amazing transformation last 20 years, 00:24:31.14\00:24:35.40 when this Supreme Court decision came down 00:24:35.43\00:24:37.78 there was a universal outcry against it. 00:24:37.81\00:24:40.46 Even left, right and center, very much against it. 00:24:40.49\00:24:44.90 The Nadine Strassen the director of ACLU called it 00:24:44.93\00:24:48.32 the Dred Scott of religious liberty. 00:24:48.35\00:24:51.33 You know, call this decision like Dred Scott case. 00:24:51.36\00:24:54.45 Then what's the Dred Scott case? 00:24:54.48\00:24:56.65 That was-- kind of remember 00:24:56.68\00:24:58.28 which one of it was now. 00:24:58.31\00:24:59.41 The Dred Scott case was one of-- 00:24:59.44\00:25:01.77 But it's a monumental one. 00:25:01.80\00:25:03.27 That was the early one before the civil war, 00:25:03.30\00:25:05.97 that up held's slavery in the slave states. 00:25:06.00\00:25:09.76 Yeah. So it's a deal breaker. 00:25:09.79\00:25:12.40 Oh, yeah, yeah. 00:25:12.43\00:25:14.89 I believe Dred Scott, 00:25:14.92\00:25:15.95 said that the slaves were capture 00:25:15.98\00:25:18.23 in the free states had to be retuned. 00:25:18.26\00:25:19.89 Treated men as property. 00:25:19.92\00:25:23.62 So you're saying this that this Supreme Court has said 00:25:23.65\00:25:27.67 that the rights of minorities 00:25:27.70\00:25:30.83 are now no longer solid and firm, 00:25:30.86\00:25:36.55 but there upper-- upper grades. 00:25:36.58\00:25:39.25 Is this what you telling me? 00:25:39.28\00:25:40.54 The free exercise of religion, that basic to our constitution 00:25:40.57\00:25:45.08 is subject to legislation, to regulation. 00:25:45.11\00:25:49.09 It is no longer protected as fundamental right. 00:25:49.12\00:25:53.62 Is this still enforced today? 00:25:53.65\00:25:56.21 Yes, absolutely. 00:25:56.24\00:25:57.69 So this is still applicable? 00:25:57.72\00:25:59.71 So in this year 00:25:59.74\00:26:01.91 there was a very controversial case called Hobby-Lobby. 00:26:01.94\00:26:04.86 Hobby-Lobby was decided not for the First Amendment, 00:26:04.89\00:26:07.69 but under a Religious Freedom Restoration Act, 00:26:07.72\00:26:11.33 a statute pass by Congress, 00:26:11.36\00:26:13.49 that because of how it was applied in Hobby-Lobby 00:26:13.52\00:26:17.43 many people are saying 00:26:17.46\00:26:18.51 let's get rid of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act 00:26:18.54\00:26:21.25 because they don't like-- they don't like the out come, 00:26:21.28\00:26:23.78 they don't like protect religious freedom. 00:26:23.81\00:26:26.02 See everybody it's often been said, 00:26:26.05\00:26:28.17 we all believe in a religious freedom and the abstract. 00:26:28.20\00:26:30.11 Yes. 00:26:30.14\00:26:31.18 But when it comes down to brass tax, 00:26:31.21\00:26:33.36 when somebody's religious freedom 00:26:33.39\00:26:35.33 is actually an issue 00:26:35.36\00:26:36.63 they are very powerful interests 00:26:36.66\00:26:38.65 that are aligned on the other side. 00:26:38.68\00:26:40.60 We don't necessarily believe in religious freedom 00:26:40.63\00:26:43.70 in particular circumstances. 00:26:43.73\00:26:46.13 But it is not true to say Alan, 00:26:46.16\00:26:48.05 that the vast majority of its in America, 00:26:48.08\00:26:50.91 Australia around the world 00:26:50.94\00:26:52.52 where rather epistatic about these tremendous issues. 00:26:52.55\00:26:56.76 Well, of course we are. 00:26:56.79\00:26:58.10 We had all these disclosures about 00:26:58.13\00:27:00.73 militarized drones about the NSA. 00:27:00.76\00:27:03.72 You know, reading our emails, 00:27:03.75\00:27:05.63 keep gathering our texts and everything else. 00:27:05.66\00:27:08.52 And so what? 00:27:08.55\00:27:10.13 We carry on as the national security status building 00:27:10.16\00:27:13.96 as though it's nothing. 00:27:13.99\00:27:15.52 Alan, could it be, I put it to you, 00:27:15.55\00:27:18.25 could it be we are living in the time 00:27:18.28\00:27:20.58 when Bible prophesies are being fulfilled. 00:27:20.61\00:27:24.46 I hope Jesus is coming soon and put an end to this max. 00:27:24.49\00:27:27.75 I believe, He is coming soon, 00:27:27.78\00:27:29.07 I believe from a study of the Bible prophesies 00:27:29.10\00:27:32.72 that the greatest issue of religious liberty 00:27:32.75\00:27:36.47 is just around the corner. 00:27:36.50\00:27:40.43 Today my special guest has been attorney Alan Reinach. 00:27:40.46\00:27:45.13 We've been talking about the greater issues 00:27:45.16\00:27:47.79 that concerned to you and me. 00:27:47.82\00:27:51.11 Please write to me John Carter, 00:27:51.14\00:27:52.82 Post Office Box 1900, Thousand Oaks, 00:27:52.85\00:27:55.89 California, 91358 00:27:55.92\00:27:58.71 in Australia write to me at Terrigal, email me, 00:27:58.74\00:28:03.27 I want to say to you, 00:28:03.30\00:28:04.34 you been such a wonderful group of people 00:28:04.37\00:28:07.59 who watched our programs over the years. 00:28:07.62\00:28:10.28 You stood with us through thick and thin 00:28:10.31\00:28:14.07 and the greatest days are still to come. 00:28:14.10\00:28:16.41 Thank you for being with me today 00:28:16.44\00:28:19.08 and God bless you. 00:28:19.11\00:28:20.74
