Welcome to Celebrating Life In Recovery, I'm Cheri. 00:00:11.03\00:00:13.19 Today we are going to just talk about how incredibly cool 00:00:13.23\00:00:15.96 God is, come join us in the café. 00:00:15.99\00:00:18.37 Welcome to the café, there is a group at the café, 00:00:45.75\00:00:48.76 some friends of mine that have done the program before. 00:00:48.79\00:00:51.48 That is Angela and Dan and I want to say, I'm glad you're 00:00:51.52\00:00:54.17 back, and there is a group from Wildwood. 00:00:54.20\00:00:56.31 The reason I brought them in, is that a lot of you know 00:00:56.35\00:00:59.48 that I have been dealing with cancer. 00:00:59.52\00:01:01.96 What is really interesting, leukemia, and I'm fine, 00:01:02.00\00:01:04.76 I just want to say that, some people have me already 00:01:04.80\00:01:07.53 dead, I am not dead, but I am fine. 00:01:07.57\00:01:09.98 I ended up thinking, in my recovery, this whole program is 00:01:10.02\00:01:14.60 about recovery, in my recovery I used to if I got hit 00:01:14.64\00:01:18.27 with something like this, or not even like this, 00:01:18.31\00:01:20.61 if I got hit with even with it's going to be a bad day, 00:01:20.64\00:01:23.05 I wanted some drugs, if you know what I mean. 00:01:23.09\00:01:25.36 Now in my recovery, I'm getting hit with the major things 00:01:25.39\00:01:29.06 and I am finding out that even that, I can deal with. 00:01:29.10\00:01:33.13 I gathered through the first part of my recovery the 00:01:33.16\00:01:36.34 ability to look at some of these pretty intense things, 00:01:36.37\00:01:39.51 I can say you know what, I am okay. 00:01:39.54\00:01:41.85 I can deal with this, I can get through this. 00:01:41.88\00:01:44.04 So what I did is I started to look at, I've done a lot 00:01:44.07\00:01:47.88 of recovery work and I know if there is a psychological 00:01:47.91\00:01:50.96 problem, if I'm dealing with anger, if I'm dealing with 00:01:50.99\00:01:53.62 depression, if I'm dealing with that kind of stuff I know 00:01:53.65\00:01:56.24 what to do, but I didn't know physically what to do. 00:01:56.28\00:02:00.22 So I called around, and I called around and it was 00:02:00.26\00:02:04.13 terrible because I am in Ministry so I never have a dime. 00:02:04.16\00:02:06.78 Halftime I don't have gas money, so if you have any money 00:02:06.82\00:02:09.46 to send it to me, going to have to tell them I don't have 00:02:09.49\00:02:12.10 that, so called around and asked a number of places, 00:02:12.14\00:02:14.85 can I come and go through your program and learn how to 00:02:14.88\00:02:17.56 take care of myself physically? 00:02:17.60\00:02:19.40 Wildwood, they were so amazing, because they just said 00:02:19.44\00:02:23.29 absolutely, and what I found out when I got there is that 00:02:23.33\00:02:27.15 there is a number of people from all over the world. 00:02:27.18\00:02:30.29 Students from all over the world that really believe that 00:02:30.33\00:02:34.54 health and recovery is more than just figuring out how to 00:02:34.57\00:02:38.14 stop doing drugs more than just figuring out that I'm not 00:02:38.17\00:02:41.58 going to get lost on a computer anymore, I'm not going to 00:02:41.62\00:02:44.99 spend 12 hours with videogames, or Internet porn, 00:02:45.03\00:02:48.97 or I'm not going to drink and slam drugs. 00:02:49.00\00:02:52.60 I'm not going to isolate myself. 00:02:52.63\00:02:54.78 More than just that physical thing, so these students 00:02:54.81\00:02:57.95 from all over the world have their own stories. 00:02:57.99\00:03:00.96 Some of the stories are just like, you look at some 00:03:01.00\00:03:03.46 body that is incredibly healthy, looks like they have 00:03:03.50\00:03:05.92 it all together and they have come from 00:03:05.96\00:03:08.14 some pretty heartbreaking backgrounds. 00:03:08.18\00:03:10.29 So I learned a couple things, I learned you can't 00:03:10.32\00:03:14.65 judge somebody by how you see them and that some people 00:03:14.69\00:03:18.04 are so passionate about telling others, that part of 00:03:18.08\00:03:21.40 maintaining your recovery and your health is 00:03:21.43\00:03:24.21 to learn that everything matters. 00:03:24.25\00:03:26.93 It matters, like I didn't know when you sleep, when you go 00:03:26.96\00:03:30.55 to sleep, I go to sleep when I can't keep my eyes open 00:03:30.59\00:03:34.11 anymore, so it is two clock the morning and I think I can't do 00:03:34.15\00:03:37.65 another thing and it is time to go to sleep. 00:03:37.69\00:03:39.94 But I didn't know that from eight to 12 o'clock at night, 00:03:39.98\00:03:43.05 from eight at night to 12 o'clock at night that if you 00:03:43.08\00:03:46.33 are sleeping only your body produces serotonin levels. 00:03:46.36\00:03:49.73 Well serotonin helps you with depression, it helps you 00:03:49.77\00:03:52.84 feel good, it helps you laugh and all those things. 00:03:52.88\00:03:55.64 But if you are not asleep, your body doesn't get it. 00:03:55.68\00:03:58.50 I'm thinking, oh stop, I don't think I have ever been to 00:03:58.54\00:04:01.33 sleep before midnight, you know. 00:04:01.36\00:04:02.75 So I had to start learning, I'm dealing with health, 00:04:02.79\00:04:05.31 I'm dealing with maintenance stuff, so I need 00:04:05.35\00:04:07.08 to go to sleep earlier. 00:04:07.12\00:04:08.64 I didn't know that the serotonin level that your body builds 00:04:08.67\00:04:11.47 up between eight and 12, when the sunlight hits your 00:04:11.50\00:04:15.60 eye, the morning, that place where your serotonin builds up 00:04:15.63\00:04:19.86 gets released, it says, oh good morning. 00:04:19.89\00:04:23.75 I'm like stop, because I never go to bed on time. 00:04:23.78\00:04:27.61 So I started to actually learn that if in the long run 00:04:27.64\00:04:31.43 I want to be successful in my recovery. 00:04:31.46\00:04:33.72 If the long run I literally want to walk into a life 00:04:33.76\00:04:36.64 that is healthy, I have to start being healthy. 00:04:36.67\00:04:40.89 You know part of it that I learned at Wildwood was 00:04:40.92\00:04:45.10 discipline, stop its killing me. 00:04:45.13\00:04:48.41 You know I'm not disciplined, and I've always said it's 00:04:48.45\00:04:53.19 my personality, but I really have learned that discipline 00:04:53.22\00:04:57.93 is not a bad thing. 00:04:57.96\00:04:59.37 I took up biking as a hobby. 00:04:59.41\00:05:02.11 At first just riding around the block, I thought my 00:05:02.15\00:05:04.94 first ride I was going to ride, our blocks in the country, 00:05:04.97\00:05:07.98 20 miles, so I thought was going to do 20 miles or at 00:05:08.01\00:05:11.08 least 5 miles, and I got a mile and looked up and 00:05:11.12\00:05:14.16 thought, I cannot do this. 00:05:14.19\00:05:15.83 I remember God lovingly saying to me, just like you 00:05:15.87\00:05:19.04 did the first part of your recovery, when you took your 00:05:19.07\00:05:22.21 first step, you realized you were powerless and 00:05:22.24\00:05:24.44 turned it over to Me. 00:05:24.48\00:05:25.82 You allowed Me to show you some of the things you need 00:05:25.85\00:05:28.84 to get rid of, and all that stuff. 00:05:28.88\00:05:30.36 This step and maintenance and recovery, taking care of 00:05:30.39\00:05:33.50 yourself is going to be like that too. 00:05:33.53\00:05:35.37 At first it is going to seem like it's going to 00:05:35.41\00:05:37.01 be a lot of work. 00:05:37.05\00:05:38.14 At first you are going to be really struggling with 00:05:38.18\00:05:40.05 going around the block, or even going a mile, 00:05:40.09\00:05:43.30 but you know what, you will get it. 00:05:43.33\00:05:44.77 I thought at first He was crazy, I don't mean to say 00:05:44.81\00:05:48.96 God is crazy, but He knows what I meant. 00:05:48.99\00:05:51.33 I thought no way, not me! 00:05:51.36\00:05:52.97 Now I'm doing 20 miles without even thinking about it. 00:05:53.01\00:05:56.49 I did 100 miles around Lake Tahoe. 00:05:56.52\00:05:58.93 And we did 100 miles with 3800 cyclists and it was the 00:05:58.96\00:06:03.27 funnest thing, on mile 81, it was a 7 mile incline. 00:06:03.31\00:06:07.58 I almost cried, but you know what, I made it! 00:06:07.62\00:06:09.71 It is an amazing thing, so this part of recovery is more 00:06:09.74\00:06:14.59 than just walking away from the drug. 00:06:14.62\00:06:16.42 It is more than just walking away from your dysfunction. 00:06:16.46\00:06:19.54 It is more than understanding the things that I can't do. 00:06:19.57\00:06:22.62 It's walking into your life, what can you do? 00:06:22.65\00:06:26.33 How do you take care of your body, how do you get your 00:06:26.37\00:06:29.23 energy back, how do you get healthy again? 00:06:29.26\00:06:31.39 Once you get all that, the recovery part of it becomes 00:06:31.43\00:06:35.43 easier, because daily I'm not only staying in my recovery 00:06:35.47\00:06:39.44 program, but I'm actually getting myself healthier. 00:06:39.48\00:06:42.22 I pray that for you, because I never realized 00:06:42.25\00:06:45.99 how unhealthy I was. 00:06:46.02\00:06:48.98 All the stuff that was getting at me and now it is a joy 00:06:49.02\00:06:53.36 to wake up every morning. 00:06:53.40\00:06:54.86 It is a joy to figure out, you know what I'm going to do 00:06:54.89\00:06:57.12 every day, so we are going to break and I will introduce 00:06:57.15\00:06:59.35 you to a woman I met while at Wildwood. 00:06:59.38\00:07:01.95 She has an incredible story, but we are going to hear how 00:07:01.99\00:07:05.21 she maintains her recovery. 00:07:05.24\00:07:06.74 We'll be right back! Stay with us. 00:07:06.77\00:07:08.07
