home but ended up leaving.

that brought me to leaving home,

identity crisis or whatnot.

I started getting curious to
a life outside of the church.

What kind of lifestyle is
going on outside of the church.

I grew up pretty much in a
home that kept the Sabbath and

had worship together
and things of that nature.

I started looking other
ways, at about 15 years I

started getting curious,
how is it that certain people

are getting money,
getting rich quick?

While I am stuck with a family
that is working and things

of that nature, but we
never seem to have any money.

Never seem to have
any fun or whatnot.

I would go to friends houses
and they would be 15 or 16

years old and they would
have cars with rims on it.

So about 15 years old is
when I finally ventured out.

and I would have to be church.

It became a burden to me,
I can't do anything, I can't

go anywhere, so all of
this began to be a burden.

So I just came to the point
where I didn't want anything

to do with God sort of
because it was just a burden.

It just seemed to be a burden,
a check on my life sort of.

So at about 15, I started
venturing out and I found myself

at 15 starting drinking alcohol.

Actually me and my brother,
he had snuck out of the house

one time and went to a party.

That was my first time drinking,
experiencing alcohol and

I woke up the next morning
with a hangover, but it really

didn't matter, I gravitated
to a certain type of lifestyle

that seemed to intrigue me.

Though I had a hangover the
next morning, I knew that this

was what I wanted to do.

I want to live
this kind of lifestyle,

rebellious, to what all I want.

I came from that lifestyle

was fairly normal or a Christian

and saying I want that.

of the people who are more

kids, I would go to school with

and systems in the trunk and

So I basically ended up
jumping headfirst into it.

I found myself stealing, robbing
and things of that nature.

lifestyle, street life, comes

there comes consequences.

was incarcerated I was 16 years

juvenile facility for a week.

what you call burglary and

I could see your mama just

to figure out what happened?

heard them in the first part

really tough is that they look

For a while we went to a
psychiatrist. - counseling.

Went to counseling and trying to
figure out what was wrong with

me, it seemed like the guy
was trying to diagnose me with

a problem and in my mind
I was thinking I don't have

a problem, I am just
interested in fast money.

I didn't see the point of
why going to school for all

these years to wait for a
paycheck every week, or every

two weeks or month, when I
could just sell some drugs,

steal it or
whatnot and get rich quick.

You know get-rich-quick, I
watched those music videos and

see people flashing
money and things like that.

I found out with that
life comes consequences.

So the next incarceration,
actually about that week I got

out and began
seeing a psychiatrist.

At about 17 years old with
my next incarceration which

was for a home invasion,
second-degree home invasion.

Breaking in houses and
trying to get money, trying to

get rich quick
once again or whatnot.

I found myself incarcerated
for about six months,

about six months incarceration
in a prison boot camp,

in a halfway house, then I
was on house arrest for about

three months, so was a
total of about nine months

altogether in between there.

After that a proposition
came to me for my probation

officer when I got out.

I was in Michigan at this time.

than likely more than drinking,

drugs are involved?

At this time I was drinking
alcohol on a regular basis,

everyday, I was
smoking weed everyday.

We would maybe go through
an ounce of weed everyday.

I was getting the money
from stealing, that's how I got

the money, I would go to school
for an hour, go to someone's

locker room and
take their money.

I would go back to other friends
and go to the weed house.

that this was not okay?

This is not my stuff, the weed
and alcohol just numbs that.

Yes, and I was smoking
cigarettes and things of that

nature, just doing it
every day of the week basically.

That is just what I was doing.

At that time it was bringing
so much problem between me

into a dark room and you flip

Those two cannot inhabit,
so we were having this problem

basically living the life that

Satan would have me to live.
Just doing whatever I wanted.

to live a Christian life and

knocking heads, constantly.

time, so I had my brother
and some my cousins were in

college and they say will
come down to college it's nice

and things of that nature.

So I went, but my
mind was not on that.

It was on money, fast
money and things of that nature.

getting suspended and I ended up

I was there for a semester

sentenced to prison this time,

And at 19 I went to jail,
at 17, I became an adult at 17.

have prior felonies also, so now

it is time for me
to go to the big house.

Like they tried the little
things and now they shipped

five-year sentence back in 2001.

five-year sentence I only had

to do 13 months, one year
and one month based upon good

behavior I ended up
getting out on parole.

One thing I learned from old
school was being incarcerated

and I was able to get out.

and I came out and switched
from stealing and robbing

to now it was
time to selling weed.

I began selling drugs for
some time and I was actually

getting my drugs transported
from Texas to North Carolina

where I had moved back to.

I would be on the
block selling weed like that.

My mind was set on getting out.

A situation took place
where it made me start thinking.

One night there was a
drug deal basically gone bad.

A particular person wanted
the amount of weed I had left,

which was about 7 and
1/2 ounces that I had left.

So we were talking and
discussing and went to a place

to make the deal and the next
thing I know we are weighing

the drugs on a scale
and things of that nature.

I gave him about 4 ounces
of it, so I said let me see the

money for those 4 ounces
so he started fiddling in his

pocket in I knew it does
not take long to find a roll.

One thing about it on the
streets, you don't carry hundred

dollar bills, it's ones,
fives, small bills like that to

make change for people.

So I knew he was taking too
long to show me the money for

those, and next
thing comes out is the gun.

It was a 25 caliber
pistol held to my face,

face about this close.

life was no longer in my hands.

basically I'm living the life

ride or die, do what I want,
to live this way until I die.

Somebody was going to
kill me eventually, that is

with the life I was living.

would have to go to college,

bag on my shoulder and he say

mind thinking I can either run
