My name is Cheri and today my best friend is here from 00:00:12.47\00:00:16.24 Australia and I want to say it's really fun to have you here. 00:00:16.28\00:00:18.84 I can't believe we're in the same room. 00:00:18.87\00:00:20.43 I know and I can't wait till you hear her story and how God has 00:00:20.47\00:00:23.55 led her. One of the things that we're going to look at is the 00:00:23.59\00:00:26.64 importance of friendship. Come join us in the cafe. 00:00:26.67\00:00:29.24 ¤ ¤ 00:00:29.27\00:00:58.10 I want to just say welcome to the program. A lot of times on 00:00:58.14\00:01:01.24 this program we'll talk about recovery stuff and we'll talk 00:01:01.27\00:01:05.72 about what to do as far as your next step, how to stop using, 00:01:05.75\00:01:09.28 making sure you get some support people around you, but not this 00:01:09.31\00:01:12.55 time. This season we're talking about some of the things that 00:01:12.59\00:01:16.43 happen after you stop using. Some of the core issues and the 00:01:16.46\00:01:20.56 core issues of fear and shame. I don't know about you but I had 00:01:20.59\00:01:24.19 a lot of stuff that I would look at and I thought I hope nobody 00:01:24.23\00:01:27.80 ever knows that. I hope God himself doesn't know that and 00:01:27.83\00:01:31.73 I feel like all of heaven said Hon, I know that and I love you. 00:01:31.77\00:01:34.96 Today we're going to talk about some of the healthier things; 00:01:34.99\00:01:38.15 You know, what's really interesting to me is somebody 00:01:38.18\00:01:41.89 had talked about when they do the recovery it's like they 00:01:41.92\00:01:45.01 really look at an issues and they stay on that and they 00:01:45.05\00:01:48.11 pay attention to that and God said to me one time, Pay 00:01:48.14\00:01:51.71 attention to me, look at me because that's where you get a 00:01:51.74\00:01:55.46 lot of really good stuff from. So when you pay attention to me 00:01:55.50\00:01:59.19 I will show you who you are outside of this junk. I will 00:01:59.22\00:02:03.42 even live that in you as you stand up to give you a clue 00:02:03.45\00:02:07.00 of what that feels like. So when you're going to focus on 00:02:07.03\00:02:11.55 anything, focus on God. Now years into my recovery I had 00:02:11.59\00:02:16.04 that I have a lot of people that I know, a lot of people that I 00:02:16.08\00:02:20.28 meet, lot of people that I even love, but I don't know if I let 00:02:20.31\00:02:23.68 a lot of people really into my life. So we're going to talk 00:02:23.72\00:02:28.26 a little bit about that. I want to say what got me is a story 00:02:28.29\00:02:32.79 that I'm going to tell you, what made it clear to me, is I was 00:02:32.82\00:02:36.51 going to Australia one time and I'm doing a number of things. 00:02:36.54\00:02:41.34 I'm doing a youth event, a camp meeting, I'm meeting people that 00:02:41.37\00:02:45.65 are amazing and I had a day off. My husband shows up because he's 00:02:45.68\00:02:49.63 going to do one of the gigs with me. So he shows up and so coming 00:02:49.66\00:02:53.58 up to our anniversary somebody says why don't you go to and 00:02:53.61\00:02:57.39 I don't even know, like a conservation park or one of 00:02:57.42\00:03:00.51 those things where they had all these animals and why don't you 00:03:00.55\00:03:03.25 go and spend the day there. I thought how fun is that going 00:03:03.28\00:03:05.91 to be. 'Cause I don't know about you but I've never seen a koala 00:03:05.95\00:03:09.02 bear, I've never held a koala bear and they said you could do 00:03:09.06\00:03:12.06 all that kind of stuff. So I'm excited and we show up. And on 00:03:12.10\00:03:15.07 the way down we see that the whole area had been kind of 00:03:15.10\00:03:19.53 trashed. There were a lot of storms that came through, trees 00:03:19.56\00:03:24.15 down. You could tell that it was a major, major storm and what I 00:03:24.18\00:03:28.53 heard from people is there was a major flood even with the fact 00:03:28.57\00:03:33.25 that people had... I don't know if there was loss of life, but 00:03:33.28\00:03:37.58 I mean it was that kind of thing and really intense. So I get to 00:03:37.62\00:03:41.59 the park and there were not a lot of tourists, which was fun 00:03:41.62\00:03:44.93 for me because they paid a lot of attention to us because we 00:03:44.97\00:03:48.08 were like the only ones walking around. So they were talking 00:03:48.11\00:03:51.28 about that they had been closed down for a long time, that they 00:03:51.31\00:03:55.61 had to rebuild the park and all that kind of stuff. So we got a 00:03:55.64\00:03:59.05 lot of attention. I got to hold the koala bear and play with 00:03:59.09\00:04:02.58 the koala bear. I got to hang out with kangaroos. It was 00:04:02.62\00:04:06.04 really funny about. You know you just don't see that stuff over 00:04:06.08\00:04:09.00 here. So I got to hang out with kangaroos and those little joeys 00:04:09.04\00:04:11.73 that kind of pop out of their pouch. You think they're going 00:04:11.77\00:04:14.90 be little tiny things; they get out and they're huge. I think 00:04:14.93\00:04:18.32 how do you fit in there. We just had a great time. They have a 00:04:18.35\00:04:22.14 lot of deadly snakes, got to see those. But my most favorite part 00:04:22.18\00:04:25.94 was this little, not little thing, it was this huge 00:04:25.97\00:04:30.44 thing that looked like a big rat and they're called wombats. 00:04:30.48\00:04:33.91 For some of you may not even know what that is but it's like 00:04:33.94\00:04:38.46 a mole or a gopher but huge, huge. So this thing came walking 00:04:38.49\00:04:42.59 up and I thought look at you, how cute are you. And he was 00:04:42.63\00:04:46.95 just goofy looking and he just had this joy in his face like 00:04:46.99\00:04:51.17 you know what, are you looking at me? I am looking at you and 00:04:51.20\00:04:55.13 he just wanted to be held and played with and all that kind of 00:04:55.17\00:04:58.71 stuff and I was just glad to do it; it was adorable. Picking 00:04:58.75\00:05:02.12 them up was a little awkward because he just huge and so one 00:05:02.16\00:05:05.80 of the people at the park told me a story about this wombat. 00:05:05.84\00:05:10.13 They said that during the storm of course there were no tourists 00:05:10.17\00:05:14.43 that came to the park and the park closed down. The animals 00:05:14.46\00:05:17.96 don't come out of their areas. They're fed and they're taken 00:05:17.99\00:05:21.08 care of and all that kind of stuff but you know everybody 00:05:21.12\00:05:23.80 was just kind of panicking and trying to deal with floods and 00:05:23.84\00:05:26.94 all that kind of stuff and they realized, they called this 00:05:26.98\00:05:30.35 wombat Tonka and I'll tell you why because I think that's 00:05:30.39\00:05:33.69 amazing too. You know how moles kind of tunnel their way under 00:05:33.73\00:05:37.18 things and they can be destructive a little bit. 00:05:37.21\00:05:39.52 When the mole is the size of a Mack truck it can talk a whole 00:05:39.56\00:05:44.21 building down. These guys are kind of destructive, so they 00:05:44.25\00:05:48.41 call him Tonka. So anyhow Tonka was getting sick and he lost 00:05:48.44\00:05:52.83 like 18 pounds and he wasn't sleeping well and when they put 00:05:52.86\00:05:56.35 food for him he wasn't eating and they thought oh man during 00:05:56.38\00:06:00.04 this whole time, I bet we're going to lose him. I don't know 00:06:00.08\00:06:02.71 what happened. What if he got hit with something and they 00:06:02.75\00:06:05.16 didn't know if there was internal bleeding. What if he 00:06:05.19\00:06:07.53 has a cancer of some kind. They just didn't know so they started 00:06:07.57\00:06:10.86 taking Tonka to the doctors. Nothing. I mean they're running 00:06:10.90\00:06:15.51 all kinds of tests and nothing. Pretty soon one of the young 00:06:15.55\00:06:20.57 girls said I think he's depressed. And they said no way. 00:06:20.61\00:06:25.56 He's like a rat. Do rats get depressed? And she says no, no I 00:06:25.60\00:06:31.24 think he's depressed. So anyway they end up deciding as a staff 00:06:31.28\00:06:36.96 that we're going to start to play with Tonka, pay attention, 00:06:36.99\00:06:41.47 make sure that we don't just drop his food off, that we go in 00:06:41.50\00:06:45.12 and we hang out and all those kind of things. Well Tonka 00:06:45.16\00:06:48.60 became so happy again. He started eating again, he started 00:06:48.63\00:06:52.52 gaining his weight. Everything changed. His joy came back and 00:06:52.55\00:06:56.18 they're telling me this story and I'm holding this thing that 00:06:56.22\00:06:59.93 kept wanting just to snuggle into me. I thought, you know 00:06:59.97\00:07:03.95 what, we're like that, we're like that. And in our recovery 00:07:03.99\00:07:07.96 one of the things that I think God is really clear about is 00:07:07.99\00:07:11.84 make sure you let somebody love you. Make sure that you start 00:07:11.88\00:07:16.16 paying attention to the people around you and love on someone 00:07:16.20\00:07:20.81 else because we are made to be social, we're made to be in 00:07:20.85\00:07:25.43 community. Sometimes in our addictions we really get 00:07:25.46\00:07:29.14 isolated. I hang out with other heroin addicts and we're nodding 00:07:29.18\00:07:32.38 off for 12 hours and the only thing we have in common is that 00:07:32.42\00:07:35.45 we're going after this drug and you may have that with your 00:07:35.49\00:07:38.28 sexual addictions, drug addictions, alcoholism, all that 00:07:38.31\00:07:41.03 kind of stuff. But when you get into a normal life look around 00:07:41.07\00:07:45.39 and see who's there. It's going to be risky at first but make a 00:07:45.42\00:07:50.24 friend. I believe what God told me is have three close friends 00:07:50.27\00:07:54.86 and really spend time with them. Be intentional about those 00:07:54.90\00:08:00.39 relationships because we need to see in someone else's eyes 00:08:00.42\00:08:05.10 that they find joy in us, that they love us. In the middle of 00:08:05.14\00:08:09.09 our destruction, I talk, I could take a building down. You know 00:08:09.12\00:08:12.76 what when I'm PMS-ing I think I can too. You know what I mean. 00:08:12.80\00:08:17.26 I am not always that easy. But you know what there are friends 00:08:17.29\00:08:20.71 that they know that about me and they'll look at me and say 00:08:20.75\00:08:24.23 no worries, I love you. And I can't even tell you how healing 00:08:24.26\00:08:27.87 that is. For a lot of us we've been told out whole life that 00:08:27.91\00:08:31.70 we're not okay, nothing is okay. Find two or three friends that 00:08:31.73\00:08:35.83 tell you know what, you're okay no matter what we'll get through 00:08:35.86\00:08:39.86 this and I love you. That's one place where God brings healing 00:08:39.90\00:08:43.87 into your life. We're going to take a break. I'm going to 00:08:43.90\00:08:47.28 introduce you to my friend and you're going to hear her story. 00:08:47.32\00:08:50.29 But remember find three people. It's a little bit of work but 00:08:50.33\00:08:53.27 you can do it. 00:08:53.30\00:08:56.23
