Welcome to Celebrating Life In Recovery. 00:00:11.44\00:00:13.12 I'm Cheri, your host. 00:00:13.16\00:00:14.29 Today we are going to look at drugs. 00:00:14.33\00:00:15.70 All kinds of drugs, amphetamines, pot, heroine 00:00:15.73\00:00:19.59 and all that stuff and we are going to answer some questions, 00:00:19.63\00:00:22.34 but mainly we are going to look at the power of prayer. 00:00:22.37\00:00:24.35 Come join us. 00:00:24.39\00:00:25.36 We are going to cover a lot of information today. 00:00:52.41\00:00:56.17 We are going to talk about drugs, and I am going to try 00:00:56.20\00:00:59.32 and cover every single thing that Mary Holley knows. 00:00:59.36\00:01:02.44 Doctor Holley thank you for joining us again. 00:01:04.31\00:01:06.37 I loved having you on the show before. 00:01:06.41\00:01:08.63 Thank you very much. 00:01:08.66\00:01:10.35 You have researched a lot on drugs, especially meth 00:01:10.38\00:01:14.39 amphetamines, can you recap why the interest? 00:01:14.43\00:01:18.67 I became involved with the methamphetamine issue when 00:01:18.70\00:01:22.14 it affected my family. 00:01:22.18\00:01:23.66 My brother was 22 when he got hooked on crystal and he 00:01:23.69\00:01:26.68 was 24 when it killed him. 00:01:26.72\00:01:29.49 First it made him crazy, made him delusional, he thought 00:01:29.52\00:01:31.42 the police could see through the walls. 00:01:31.45\00:01:33.02 He thought they could read his mind. 00:01:33.06\00:01:34.56 He was at a party one night and the fellow next to him 00:01:34.59\00:01:37.02 got a hit of crystal and had a heart attack and 00:01:37.06\00:01:38.87 died right in front of him. - Right in front of him! 00:01:38.91\00:01:40.66 But he thought because his finger prints were on the flask 00:01:40.69\00:01:43.00 he thought he would get framed for the murder of this 00:01:43.04\00:01:45.39 fellow so he wanted to run right away and go to Mexico. 00:01:45.43\00:01:48.25 My mother knew that a crazy white boy wouldn't last five 00:01:48.29\00:01:51.08 minutes in Mexico so she brought him to my house. 00:01:51.12\00:01:53.61 See what you can do Mary. 00:01:53.65\00:01:56.30 You were a doctor? - I was an obstetrician delivering 00:01:56.34\00:01:59.36 babies, so I took him to my friend a Physiatrist that 00:01:59.39\00:02:02.37 diagnosed him paranoia schizophrenia. 00:02:02.41\00:02:04.44 - Which he wasn't? 00:02:04.47\00:02:05.87 - Well he was a drug induced Schizophrenic, 00:02:05.91\00:02:08.45 but there is a difference. 00:02:08.48\00:02:09.77 I know there is a difference because I was on the street 00:02:09.81\00:02:13.69 for 10 years so I saw a lot of my friends go from being 00:02:13.72\00:02:17.40 just normal and having fun, partying and things all the 00:02:17.43\00:02:21.07 way to very psychotic. 00:02:21.11\00:02:22.98 One of my best friends turned into an orange, he would sit 00:02:23.01\00:02:26.20 there and just spit, and I would say what are you doing? 00:02:26.23\00:02:29.38 He said I'm making orange juice. 00:02:29.41\00:02:31.27 We all laughed and thought that was hilarious, but he in 00:02:31.31\00:02:34.39 the state hospital for years and sat there and spit. 00:02:34.43\00:02:37.48 Yeah, it will cause a syndrome very much like 00:02:37.51\00:02:40.76 schizophrenia but for 90% of them it goes away when they 00:02:40.80\00:02:44.26 have been clean for a year or more. 00:02:44.30\00:02:46.07 Only 10 % remain psychotic the rest of their lives. 00:02:46.10\00:02:48.48 We have to say that again for anybody watching the 00:02:48.51\00:02:50.86 show that is on meth. 00:02:50.89\00:02:52.06 If you are on meth right now and you stop, your paranoid 00:02:52.09\00:02:54.70 would go away in about a year. - About a year. 00:02:54.74\00:02:57.60 We want it to happen right now, over night. 00:02:57.64\00:03:00.43 Yeah, and it does improve very quickly when they get 00:03:00.47\00:03:03.80 clean, but your still hallucinating occasionally up to 00:03:03.83\00:03:07.13 a year after using meth. 00:03:07.17\00:03:09.44 Then 10 % of them require medicine the rest of their life, 00:03:09.48\00:03:13.34 but the vast majority don't. 00:03:13.37\00:03:15.40 They restore the mental faculties, they restore their 00:03:15.43\00:03:19.20 memories, start laughing and cutting up again. 00:03:19.24\00:03:21.76 They enjoy their life again, but it will not happen over night. 00:03:21.80\00:03:24.63 I want you to share, I went on your website one time and 00:03:24.66\00:03:28.09 I saw a different things that you have learned in your 00:03:28.12\00:03:31.51 research, different things about different drugs. 00:03:31.55\00:03:33.78 Can we start out with, how about the drug that everyone 00:03:33.81\00:03:37.35 says is not big deal? Pot! 00:03:37.39\00:03:40.00 Oh, Yes! - No big deal, I'm just smoking weed. 00:03:40.04\00:03:42.58 Marijuana causes memory loss and loss of judgment and 00:03:42.62\00:03:47.39 reasoning, you do stupid things. 00:03:47.43\00:03:49.59 You lose motivation, you don't care about going to work 00:03:49.62\00:03:52.54 tomorrow, don't care about paying the bills. 00:03:52.57\00:03:55.32 That apathy just pervades every part of life. 00:03:55.35\00:03:58.50 Memory loss can last for years after stopping. 00:03:58.53\00:04:01.60 There is a loss of IQ points which is just about as much 00:04:01.64\00:04:05.64 as you get from fetal alcohol syndrome, 00:04:05.67\00:04:07.56 it's not a benign drug. 00:04:07.60\00:04:09.21 When I talk with kids, they will say I am just smoking 00:04:09.25\00:04:13.06 weed and it is no problem. 00:04:13.09\00:04:14.92 I'll ask them, when you go to the movies do you enjoy 00:04:14.95\00:04:19.04 the movies? Oh Yeah! Do you smoke weed before you go? 00:04:19.07\00:04:23.23 Yeah! Would you enjoy it as much if you didn't smoke 00:04:23.26\00:04:27.38 weed? Well why would I even go? 00:04:27.42\00:04:29.85 It is like, you use to be able to go to the movies 00:04:29.89\00:04:32.04 without smoking weed, when you go to visit friends do 00:04:32.08\00:04:34.93 you go over there, or do you smoke weed and then go 00:04:34.96\00:04:37.69 over there that everything becomes why I smoke weed 00:04:37.73\00:04:40.42 first, if I play video games. 00:04:40.45\00:04:42.23 We go to get a bag of weed first, smoke weed first. 00:04:42.26\00:04:45.23 So everything becomes that I do it on this drug. 00:04:45.26\00:04:48.46 If I am not on the drug I don't enjoy the activity. 00:04:48.50\00:04:51.44 Um Hummm! Yeah their mind becomes organized around it. 00:04:51.48\00:04:54.76 When they stop using it, they feel grouchy and irritable, 00:04:54.80\00:04:58.05 the lights are too bright, the sounds are too loud. 00:04:58.08\00:05:00.74 It takes about 28-days for the biochemical change in 00:05:00.78\00:05:03.37 the brain to reverse and the nerves to start firing correctly 00:05:03.41\00:05:07.60 again and during that 28-days you are miserable 00:05:07.64\00:05:11.11 until you get another joint. 00:05:11.15\00:05:12.78 So you have mentioned the brain a couple times. 00:05:12.82\00:05:16.50 Can you tell us what actually happens in the brain? 00:05:16.54\00:05:19.72 Know that I am an addict in recovery, you have to keep 00:05:19.76\00:05:22.91 it simple, no I have studied this. 00:05:22.95\00:05:26.44 I love this stuff because I think when you know what 00:05:26.48\00:05:29.98 happens in the brain, you make better choices. 00:05:30.01\00:05:32.28 Yes, and when addicts under - stand what the drug is doing 00:05:32.31\00:05:35.47 to their brain, they seem to recover some hope. 00:05:35.50\00:05:38.19 It's not that I am a derelict, this drugs making me a derelict. 00:05:38.22\00:05:41.92 It is not that I am stupid, the drug is making me stupid. 00:05:41.96\00:05:45.56 When they start realizing that, they start having 00:05:45.60\00:05:48.41 some hope about them. 00:05:48.44\00:05:49.58 Yeah I can recover and become functional again. 00:05:49.62\00:05:52.08 With any addiction? Especially with methamphetamine 00:05:52.11\00:05:55.90 Methamphetamine causes sever brain dysfunction, 00:05:55.94\00:05:59.69 it affects every aspect of life. 00:05:59.73\00:06:02.07 You can't nurture or protect your children. 00:06:02.10\00:06:04.23 Can't enjoy a good meal, you can't remember what you talked 00:06:04.27\00:06:08.37 about this morning, you forget about it this afternoon. 00:06:08.41\00:06:12.21 So many functions are involved with methamphetamine, 00:06:12.24\00:06:16.27 it makes them wonder whether they are every going to be 00:06:16.30\00:06:20.12 alive again, especially that first few months of recovery. 00:06:20.16\00:06:23.94 You are so depressed, 00:06:23.97\00:06:25.74 - it's horrible because you would really rather die. 00:06:25.78\00:06:28.50 Yes! - Even when someone says if I can use again, if I 00:06:28.54\00:06:31.67 even could drink again, if I can get online and look at 00:06:31.71\00:06:35.00 one more porn site again is that for at least a moment 00:06:35.04\00:06:38.19 I feel alive and don't realize if you really get through 00:06:38.22\00:06:41.88 that, time, if you give yourself time you will start 00:06:41.92\00:06:45.55 feeling alive without the addiction. 00:06:45.58\00:06:47.29 Right, Right! - So tell us a little bit about synopsis 00:06:47.33\00:06:49.29 and dopamine and all that stuff. 00:06:49.32\00:06:52.44 Okay, I always introduced in terms of Cell A and Cell B. 00:06:52.47\00:06:55.48 Cell A and Cell B are separated by a layer of fluid, 00:06:55.51\00:06:58.22 they can't touch directly or they will short out. 00:06:58.25\00:07:00.92 They are electorally charged. - Right! 00:07:00.96\00:07:02.64 So they are separated by fluid and we communicate 00:07:02.67\00:07:04.97 across the fluid using chemicals. 00:07:05.00\00:07:06.77 They are called neuro-transmitters. 00:07:06.80\00:07:08.50 When Cell A releases this neuro- transmitter and it gets on the 00:07:08.54\00:07:11.92 receiving Cell, then Cell B says I know what that is. 00:07:11.95\00:07:15.13 That is Cell A trying to tell me something. 00:07:15.17\00:07:17.08 It sends a little feed-back signal to Cell A and says, 00:07:17.12\00:07:20.01 I heard you, you can stop now. 00:07:20.04\00:07:21.83 So that stops the normal transition, but when the 00:07:21.86\00:07:25.58 amphetamine gets into the picture, it is shoveling out 00:07:25.62\00:07:28.49 dopamine a hundred miles an hour with no chemical 00:07:28.52\00:07:33.30 electrical signal to trigger it, it is just dumped out 00:07:33.33\00:07:37.24 there and the receiving Cell is overwhelmed by excess 00:07:37.27\00:07:41.14 of dopamine and just shuts down. 00:07:41.18\00:07:43.43 It's like I heard you, I heard you, I heard you and 00:07:43.46\00:07:46.01 eventually stops. Yeah! If you won't shut up I will have 00:07:46.04\00:07:48.42 to hang up the phone. 00:07:48.46\00:07:49.98 So that is what Cell B does, it hangs up the phone. 00:07:50.02\00:07:52.32 Disconnects it's receptors, cuts them right off the Cell. 00:07:52.35\00:07:54.59 Now, after awhile of using, Cell A can't talk anymore, it's vocal 00:07:54.62\00:07:59.69 cords are ruptured, and Cell B can't hear anymore, 00:07:59.73\00:08:02.76 it's hung up the phone. 00:08:02.79\00:08:04.47 Cell A and Cell B are your ability to control your temper. 00:08:04.51\00:08:07.58 Your ability to nurture your children, your ability to get 00:08:07.62\00:08:10.66 up and work, laugh and enjoy life. 00:08:10.70\00:08:13.33 What's interesting is when these two stop communicating, 00:08:13.36\00:08:18.65 it really is every single thing. 00:08:18.68\00:08:21.57 When the sun hits your skin and you think that feels great, 00:08:21.60\00:08:25.52 you can't communicate that anymore so I cannot feel it. 00:08:25.55\00:08:29.08 When somebody laughs, when somebody tries to reach out, 00:08:29.11\00:08:32.60 I can't feel it, it is not the same. 00:08:32.64\00:08:34.94 That is so devastating. 00:08:34.97\00:08:38.53 Sometimes it is very long - lasting, I've talked to 00:08:38.56\00:08:41.26 fellows in the state Penn that are a year out and still feel 00:08:41.29\00:08:44.75 like plastic, like they can't feel anything. 00:08:44.78\00:08:47.58 When am I going to be able to feel again? 00:08:47.62\00:08:50.35 I don't know what to tell them because some of this 00:08:50.39\00:08:53.10 damage is permanent, the methamphetamine is unique among 00:08:53.14\00:08:56.52 all the drugs of abuse in that it causes real holes in 00:08:56.56\00:08:59.80 the brain, definite structural defects in the brain. 00:08:59.84\00:09:03.05 How does that happen? 00:09:03.08\00:09:04.10 It has been made out of battery acid and hydrosominia? and 00:09:04.13\00:09:07.95 Red Devil Lye, well when you metabolize that stuff down, 00:09:07.98\00:09:11.22 break it down in your body, you turn it back into 00:09:11.25\00:09:14.46 Red Devil Lye and battery acid. 00:09:14.49\00:09:16.87 That stuff eats a hole in the brain or your other tissues 00:09:16.91\00:09:19.92 as well, eats a hole in the lungs and heart. 00:09:19.95\00:09:22.14 It's interesting for a lot of the drugs we can break them 00:09:22.17\00:09:26.96 down and flush them from our system. 00:09:26.99\00:09:29.13 With those acids, we cannot so they pass the brain barrier 00:09:29.17\00:09:33.05 and literally drop onto our brain tissue, which is soft 00:09:33.08\00:09:37.43 tissue. - Yes, it is very sensitive, delicate tissue and 00:09:37.47\00:09:41.78 it doesn't take very much poison to destroy. 00:09:41.82\00:09:44.58 When one brain Cell dies, it is unique to the brain, 00:09:44.61\00:09:47.40 no other tissue does this. 00:09:47.43\00:09:48.62 When one brain Cell dies, it releases toxins to kill all 00:09:48.65\00:09:53.29 the neighbors, so the radius of destruction expands, 00:09:53.33\00:09:57.94 the more you use the bigger it gets. 00:09:57.97\00:10:00.02 There are big structural holes. 00:10:00.06\00:10:02.26 Of course, as you are speaking, we are putting graphics 00:10:02.30\00:10:04.44 up for that, but one of the things, I think is amazing, 00:10:04.48\00:10:07.15 when I first saw that, it looked to me like it wasn't 00:10:07.19\00:10:10.39 even a brain, I mean when you see a normal brain and then 00:10:10.42\00:10:13.03 you see the brain with the holes in it you think they 00:10:13.07\00:10:15.61 look like craters! - Craters, that's a good description of it. 00:10:15.64\00:10:18.80 Those craters are not just on the surface, they are all 00:10:18.84\00:10:21.62 the way through the middle of it too. 00:10:21.66\00:10:23.29 I have talked to people who have gotten out of prison 00:10:23.33\00:10:26.23 and say, I just can't read anymore, all the letters just 00:10:26.27\00:10:29.13 swim together and it doesn't make sense. 00:10:29.17\00:10:30.87 Well you can't read you can't work, 00:10:30.90\00:10:32.96 the man's an electrician. 00:10:33.00\00:10:34.62 So he has to go back to school and get the second grade 00:10:34.66\00:10:37.57 readers out and teach himself how to read all over again. 00:10:37.60\00:10:40.48 Because the area of the brain that knew 00:10:40.51\00:10:42.21 how to read is gone? - right! 00:10:42.25\00:10:44.09 You have to teach another bunch of Cells how to read. 00:10:44.13\00:10:46.90 It's amazing we are so adaptable, stop using and 00:10:46.93\00:10:50.64 your brain will actually rewire, retract things. 00:10:50.68\00:10:54.31 Oh dramatically, this is been shown in many different 00:10:54.35\00:10:57.40 context that the brain does remodel and rewire and restore. 00:10:57.43\00:11:00.92 I'm so grateful for that. 00:11:00.96\00:11:02.57 - well it says in the Bible in Philippians that if you 00:11:04.63\00:11:07.17 think on good things, if you think on things that are 00:11:07.21\00:11:09.67 right, and true, and good, and gracious, your brain heals. 00:11:09.71\00:11:13.31 That is not just Bible talk, that brain talk. 00:11:13.34\00:11:16.17 What's incredible, as an addict, I can look at those 00:11:16.21\00:11:19.92 things and think, God knows what is going to restore me. 00:11:19.95\00:11:23.53 A lot of times people think, or say those are nice words. 00:11:23.56\00:11:26.85 They are not, He created us and He knows how our brain works. 00:11:26.88\00:11:30.13 He knows about our recovery. 00:11:30.17\00:11:32.12 When we speak good things into our hearts, our brains 00:11:32.16\00:11:36.10 reorganize themselves, so thinking good things become 00:11:36.14\00:11:40.04 more natural spontaneously. 00:11:40.08\00:11:42.23 Controlling your temper becomes easy and natural. 00:11:42.27\00:11:44.73 You don't have to think about that stuff anymore, 00:11:44.77\00:11:47.20 it becomes part of you. 00:11:47.23\00:11:49.00 Take your time, again it takes time. 00:11:49.04\00:11:52.18 Making a commitment to recovery no matter how you feel. 00:11:52.22\00:11:55.30 It is not about how you feel. - Yes! 00:11:55.33\00:11:57.49 When you talk about, okay synapses, and in neuro there 00:11:57.52\00:12:00.73 is a, and we have talked about this in the other show, 00:12:00.76\00:12:03.93 but my favorite little track, talk about that. 00:12:03.97\00:12:06.31 A retro... - your favorite little track in the brain is 00:12:06.34\00:12:11.32 called visiculous-retro-flexis?. 00:12:11.35\00:12:13.38 Okay I want all of us to say that, but it is my favorite. 00:12:13.42\00:12:17.23 I had no idea that we had something literally going from 00:12:17.26\00:12:20.33 the frontal lobe to the back of our brain with our animal 00:12:20.37\00:12:23.40 instincts that really help us to choose right. 00:12:23.44\00:12:26.54 This is the thing that gives you your conscious mind, 00:12:26.57\00:12:29.24 where you make decisions and have rational thought. 00:12:29.27\00:12:31.87 It gives you control over the urges, drives, and cravings 00:12:31.91\00:12:35.70 they come out of the bottom of the brain. 00:12:35.74\00:12:37.53 So you can control your cravings, you can control your 00:12:37.56\00:12:41.01 temper, you can control your impulses, but when those 00:12:41.05\00:12:44.00 Cells get damaged you don't control that stuff anymore. 00:12:44.03\00:12:46.95 - exactly - it controls you! 00:12:46.99\00:12:49.04 I wonder why, why can't I just say no? 00:12:49.07\00:12:51.71 You don't have the ability because you are not 00:12:51.75\00:12:54.06 using your frontal lobe. 00:12:54.09\00:12:55.80 The frontal lobe is used, but it is not connected to the 00:12:55.83\00:12:58.02 behavior, and so that is the fallacy of cognitive 00:12:58.05\00:13:02.05 behavioral therapy that has been used for 00:13:02.09\00:13:04.21 so many years at rehab centers. 00:13:04.24\00:13:05.71 It has its role, it has a place, but we can't rely on 00:13:05.75\00:13:08.81 cognitive behavioral therapy to get us out of meth 00:13:08.84\00:13:11.84 amphetamine, the connection between cognitive and 00:13:11.88\00:13:14.84 behavioral isn't there anymore. 00:13:14.87\00:13:16.55 We have to heal that process and that takes a lot of time, 00:13:16.59\00:13:20.56 12 to even 18 months. 00:13:20.60\00:13:22.63 Doctor Holley, is it just meth that destroys that connection? 00:13:22.66\00:13:26.00 Methamphetamine does it the fastest and the most devastating 00:13:26.04\00:13:29.34 way, but cocaine damages the same bunch of Cells. 00:13:29.38\00:13:31.92 So does alcohol and inhalants, they all damage that same 00:13:31.96\00:13:37.34 little track that causes addiction. 00:13:37.37\00:13:40.06 So when that track is damaged, the electrical current 00:13:40.10\00:13:42.92 does not happen? - right! 00:13:42.95\00:13:44.74 In fact electrical activity goes the other way, 00:13:44.77\00:13:47.82 the impulses and desires to control the cortex instead 00:13:47.86\00:13:50.79 of the cortex controlling the impulses and desires. 00:13:50.82\00:13:53.72 That is huge! - yes it is huge. 00:13:53.75\00:13:56.01 I think for a lot of us we have no idea, we think that we 00:13:56.05\00:14:00.03 are in control when in fact we are no longer in control. 00:14:00.07\00:14:04.21 That is what the feeling of addicts have come they think 00:14:04.25\00:14:08.01 I can use just once, this fantasy of controlled use. 00:14:08.04\00:14:11.74 They have the idea that they can use just once and get by 00:14:11.77\00:14:14.50 with it, the next time they use they will speak smarter 00:14:14.53\00:14:17.22 about it, they won't get into as much trouble. 00:14:17.25\00:14:19.33 They will keep their job, they will pay their bills, 00:14:19.36\00:14:21.64 they will do better next time. 00:14:21.68\00:14:23.08 That is a fantasy and it is not reality. 00:14:23.12\00:14:26.46 Once those Cells have been damaged you don't control that 00:14:26.50\00:14:29.36 behavior anymore, you look for strength from the 00:14:29.39\00:14:33.26 Holy Spirit to overcome those impulses because you don't 00:14:33.30\00:14:36.68 have that natural track that makes it easier and 00:14:36.71\00:14:39.48 spontaneous and natural to control those impulses. 00:14:39.52\00:14:42.50 You need a power of Almighty God to control's those 00:14:42.54\00:14:45.49 impulses, you're helpless over it. 00:14:45.53\00:14:47.86 The next step of AA is recognizing we are helpless. 00:14:47.90\00:14:51.70 Yes we are helpless, we don't have those neurons anymore. 00:14:51.73\00:14:54.09 We are relying on God for that control. 00:14:54.12\00:14:56.84 For a lot of people that want an addict to come in and 00:14:56.87\00:15:01.14 just behave, I think what they don't realize is that it 00:15:01.18\00:15:04.89 is going to take a good year for us to sit down with a 00:15:04.92\00:15:09.25 structured program, and people have healed outside of AA 00:15:09.28\00:15:13.58 in different programs, but it is not just because 00:15:13.61\00:15:15.94 we sit there and know what to do. 00:15:15.97\00:15:17.61 I have to be in a program, I have to be around people 00:15:17.64\00:15:20.89 that tell me, don't rely on yourself, don't think you are 00:15:20.92\00:15:24.13 going to know what to do, ask somebody, 00:15:24.17\00:15:25.94 let somebody model for you the right behavior because 00:15:25.97\00:15:28.95 I am not making those connections. 00:15:28.98\00:15:30.72 To me the saddest thing is to watch an addict stumble into 00:15:30.75\00:15:35.39 a church and him or her to sit there. 00:15:35.42\00:15:38.54 I know that they are lost. 00:15:38.58\00:15:41.07 Addicts heal in communities, they heal with people around 00:15:41.11\00:15:44.19 them that understand what they're going through and can 00:15:44.23\00:15:47.39 pray with them, and help them understand themselves. 00:15:47.43\00:15:50.96 You do not heal in isolation, you have to heal in 00:15:51.00\00:15:54.50 community with people who understand you. 00:15:54.53\00:15:56.74 By that time, I believe for myself anyway when I stopped 00:15:56.77\00:16:00.00 using, I didn't even know who myself was anymore. 00:16:00.03\00:16:02.78 Who am I? And I seen things done and done things myself 00:16:02.81\00:16:07.44 with these drugs that I was just praying it was not me. 00:16:07.47\00:16:11.23 You know what I mean, I'm praying that's not who I am. 00:16:11.26\00:16:15.11 So I think in community, we have talked about this on 00:16:15.15\00:16:18.39 other shows, when you start getting affirmed and walk 00:16:18.43\00:16:21.64 with and discipled by someone, 00:16:21.68\00:16:23.52 that you literally have that restoration easier. 00:16:23.56\00:16:27.13 The most powerful things addicts do in community is to learn how 00:16:27.16\00:16:31.31 to pray, they learn how to pray genuine and effective prayers. 00:16:31.35\00:16:35.46 This is not lip service, it's not reading out of a book, 00:16:35.49\00:16:38.61 this is real prayer, this is real guts, and real crying. 00:16:38.65\00:16:41.41 If you are not willing to be genuine with the people 00:16:41.45\00:16:44.18 around you, you can't do it. 00:16:44.21\00:16:45.35 This is hard enough, but don't play your own recovery. 00:16:45.38\00:16:51.91 - yet we can't play games here. 00:16:51.94\00:16:53.09 The other pillar of recovery is the intense and 00:16:53.13\00:16:56.43 intelligence study of the Bible. 00:16:56.47\00:16:58.22 I recommend a 12 step Bible that Tyndale publishes. 00:16:58.26\00:17:02.84 - I love that. - I love that Bible. 00:17:02.87\00:17:04.37 It is so real, and really the addicts families get as 00:17:04.40\00:17:07.87 much out of it as the addict themselves. 00:17:07.90\00:17:09.92 You know for the people who haven't seen that Bible, 00:17:09.95\00:17:12.13 it's incredible, it is my study Bible. 00:17:12.17\00:17:14.11 You are reading along and they have the devotionals all 00:17:14.14\00:17:16.64 through the Bible that are about different parts of 00:17:16.68\00:17:19.10 recovery, different things you you need to know about honesty. 00:17:19.14\00:17:22.14 So you will read a story in the Bible and all of a sudden 00:17:22.18\00:17:25.78 the devotion will tell you why that story is important 00:17:25.82\00:17:29.38 and how it relates to recovery. 00:17:29.42\00:17:31.73 It brings it to life, a lot of people thought 12 steps 00:17:31.77\00:17:35.00 is on one page and the Bible is over here and 00:17:35.04\00:17:37.35 they don't have anything to do with each other, oh no, 00:17:37.38\00:17:39.59 those two are married. 00:17:39.62\00:17:41.25 The 12 steps are solidly biblical, they lead to deep 00:17:41.29\00:17:44.91 repentance and real restoration, but they need 00:17:44.94\00:17:48.24 to be joined with the word of God, 00:17:48.28\00:17:50.23 that is where their power comes from. 00:17:50.26\00:17:52.14 It's good to know that it is Jesus is blood that covers 00:17:52.18\00:17:55.43 me and He will restore me to sanity. 00:17:55.46\00:17:57.72 It is His righteousness not ours. 00:17:57.76\00:17:59.94 - and the Holy Spirit will live in me. 00:17:59.98\00:18:01.59 So let's talk about, what are some of the things you saw 00:18:01.62\00:18:06.62 in your research, after your brother's death, 00:18:06.66\00:18:11.10 that was the hardest for you? 00:18:11.13\00:18:14.44 I guess what I'm asking is that when I first started 00:18:14.48\00:18:18.35 seeing the downfall of addicts, just pictures of them 00:18:18.38\00:18:22.22 into recovery, or that thing I was just shocked. 00:18:22.26\00:18:26.00 What kinds of things where you felt shocked? 00:18:26.03\00:18:29.71 I saw pictures of their teeth falling out, and their hair 00:18:29.74\00:18:34.67 turning to straw, cheeks sunken in, they are wasted and 00:18:34.71\00:18:39.54 destroyed by this drug and they are totally oblivious. 00:18:39.58\00:18:44.35 I saw a woman walking downtown Huntsville a few months ago, 00:18:44.38\00:18:47.59 I just pulled over because I had to answer the Cell phone. 00:18:47.63\00:18:50.29 I can't drive and answer the Cell phone at the same time. 00:18:50.32\00:18:52.96 I was parked there by the side of the road and here comes 00:18:53.00\00:18:55.61 this woman staggering across the parking lot. 00:18:55.64\00:18:58.75 She could barely walk, I knew she was strung out on meth. 00:18:58.78\00:19:02.48 There was nothing I could do for her. 00:19:02.51\00:19:05.05 Once you have experienced it you can see it so clearly 00:19:05.08\00:19:09.52 everywhere. - the pasty skin, the dilated pupils, 00:19:09.55\00:19:14.17 can't focus, staggering, can't hold herself up, 00:19:14.21\00:19:18.76 and she was just as skinny as a rail and barely dressed. 00:19:18.79\00:19:22.54 I have seen women, I'm sure you have too, 00:19:22.58\00:19:25.44 even pregnant in those states. 00:19:25.48\00:19:28.28 I look at that and think what about their children? 00:19:28.32\00:19:32.61 The babies are born usually premature and always very 00:19:32.64\00:19:36.90 small, because they are malnourished. 00:19:36.94\00:19:39.36 The oxygen supplied to the placenta was not what it 00:19:39.39\00:19:43.51 should be, many of them have signs of seizures or even 00:19:43.55\00:19:47.64 Cerebral Palsy as we follow them out. 00:19:47.67\00:19:49.94 Many of them have ADHD, or learning disabilities that 00:19:49.98\00:19:55.57 will follow them throughout their lives. 00:19:55.61\00:19:57.87 If those children are raised in a nurturing environment, 00:19:57.91\00:20:00.84 where they are loved and fed and cared for, a lot of that 00:20:00.88\00:20:03.78 reverses and with proper intervention you can get a 00:20:03.81\00:20:07.58 healthy two-year-old out of that situation. 00:20:07.62\00:20:09.87 But if that child is sent home with a squeaker mother who 00:20:09.91\00:20:13.38 then shakes that child, abuses that child, doesn't feed 00:20:13.42\00:20:16.86 that child, he doesn't have a chance. 00:20:16.90\00:20:19.56 Right, and the neurochemistry for that child just gets 00:20:19.59\00:20:21.93 worse and worse. - it does! 00:20:21.97\00:20:23.91 The children, as they grow up in an abusive home, 00:20:23.95\00:20:26.50 a drug abusing home in particular, they learn that, 00:20:26.54\00:20:29.05 that is normal, they think that is how 00:20:29.09\00:20:31.15 you're supposed to do things. 00:20:31.19\00:20:32.52 Whatever daddy does, must be the right thing to do. 00:20:32.56\00:20:34.82 So the kid is 10 years old and he is using too. 00:20:34.85\00:20:37.05 When seventh-grade he is 12 years old, now he has been 00:20:37.08\00:20:40.60 promoted, he's daddies dealer and he thinks he's smarter 00:20:40.63\00:20:44.11 than anybody he knows. 00:20:44.15\00:20:46.18 In ninth grade the kid is up for murder charges. 00:20:46.21\00:20:48.66 It is the same child eating dog food six years ago because 00:20:48.69\00:20:52.82 no one would feed him, and now he's up on murder charges. 00:20:52.86\00:20:57.49 I know people say there is no excuse for certain behaviors, 00:20:57.53\00:21:02.13 but my heart breaks for that child. 00:21:02.17\00:21:04.09 I know the history, I know every single thing that led up 00:21:04.12\00:21:07.58 to that and I also know the power of this drug. 00:21:07.61\00:21:10.41 It is huge. - all the lies that kid believes. 00:21:10.44\00:21:13.17 He thinks he's worthless, he thinks he's useless and believes 00:21:13.20\00:21:18.04 that, and so he acts like it. 00:21:18.07\00:21:20.22 If I think I'm just an animal, I'm going to act like an animal. 00:21:20.25\00:21:24.22 You talk with a lot of people in prison, in rehab centers. 00:21:24.25\00:21:28.89 So what is it that you say to them? 00:21:28.93\00:21:32.33 Do you think it gets through? 00:21:32.37\00:21:35.07 Yes, the main thing that they come to me with is their 00:21:35.10\00:21:39.07 anger, they are enraged, they are mad at their peers, 00:21:39.11\00:21:43.01 they are mad at their dealer, they are mad at the arresting 00:21:43.04\00:21:45.22 officer, they're mad at the legal system, they are mad 00:21:45.25\00:21:47.97 at their attorney, they are angry. 00:21:48.01\00:21:49.86 Just boiling over with anger. - right! 00:21:49.90\00:21:51.68 I take that anger to the cross of Jesus Christ. 00:21:51.71\00:21:55.09 That is where we have to take it. 00:21:55.13\00:21:57.09 Yeah, what happened to you was brutal and obscene. 00:21:57.13\00:22:00.50 That cross is brutal and obscene. 00:22:00.54\00:22:03.46 You don't have to pretend it didn't happen, and you don't 00:22:03.50\00:22:06.53 have to pretend it didn't hurt. 00:22:06.56\00:22:08.11 You take real pain and real rage to the foot of this 00:22:08.14\00:22:11.35 cross because guys, that's real, and you do not 00:22:11.38\00:22:14.14 have to be controlled by your anger anymore. 00:22:14.17\00:22:16.89 I don't have to excuse it. 00:22:16.93\00:22:18.11 You don't have to wallpaper over it, I can accept it. 00:22:18.15\00:22:22.25 Yes I am enraged because I was raped when 00:22:22.29\00:22:24.30 I was 8 years old and that was wrong. 00:22:24.34\00:22:26.28 That man hanging on a cross is paying for it. 00:22:26.31\00:22:30.03 You do not have to gloss over it. 00:22:30.07\00:22:32.49 The flip side of that, after we have been talking about 00:22:32.52\00:22:36.15 that for a little while, then we're talking about, 00:22:36.19\00:22:38.11 well what have you done to your kids? 00:22:38.15\00:22:40.24 I mean you are here in jail, there is a good reason for it. 00:22:40.28\00:22:42.58 What have you done to your dad? 00:22:42.61\00:22:44.33 What have you done to your mother? 00:22:44.36\00:22:46.01 Let's take your shame and your guilt to the very same cross, 00:22:46.04\00:22:49.81 guys, He died for you too. 00:22:49.85\00:22:51.99 He died for you too, you don't have to deny it, 00:22:52.03\00:22:55.43 you don't have to play games with Him. 00:22:55.46\00:22:57.50 He'll explain the part that can be explained. 00:22:57.54\00:23:00.48 He will excuse the part that can be excused, the part that 00:23:00.52\00:23:02.80 somebody else's fault, it is somebody else's fault. 00:23:02.83\00:23:05.55 It's the part that's left over, the part that says, 00:23:05.59\00:23:08.28 I did it and there is no excuse for it, 00:23:08.31\00:23:11.21 that is the part He forgives. 00:23:11.25\00:23:13.97 When He has forgiven you, you can forgive yourself, 00:23:14.00\00:23:18.84 restore your dignity and self- respect and now you can 00:23:18.87\00:23:23.67 heal from your addiction, it's a whole new world. 00:23:23.71\00:23:27.49 Now I can see in their eyes they hear you, they so long 00:23:27.52\00:23:30.69 for someone to say there is hope. 00:23:30.72\00:23:32.48 They often don't understand with their minds, 00:23:32.52\00:23:34.59 but they understand what their hearts. 00:23:34.62\00:23:36.41 My heart is speaking to your heart and you will remember 00:23:36.45\00:23:40.36 it tomorrow. - 00:28:48.28\00:28:51.03 She was amazing, they were so thrilled with what you had 00:28:51.07\00:28:55.29 shared with them and felt fully empowered by the 00:28:55.32\00:28:57.42 information, which is incredible. 00:28:57.45\00:28:59.26 Yes, I always give a solution. 00:28:59.30\00:29:01.03 And I'm going to present a problem, 00:29:01.07\00:29:02.68 I'm also going to present a solution. 00:29:02.72\00:29:04.26 If talking about drug endangered children, I'm going to 00:29:04.30\00:29:06.75 talk about intervention that we can do to help those kids. 00:29:06.78\00:29:09.20 If were talking about problems in the schools, 00:29:09.24\00:29:11.24 I'm going to talk about programs we can do in the schools 00:29:11.28\00:29:13.75 to educate and prevent drugs abuse in our students. 00:29:13.79\00:29:16.50 If we're talking about medical issues, 00:29:16.53\00:29:18.69 I'm going to talk about the treatments for those medical 00:29:18.73\00:29:20.81 issues, the heart attacks and strokes. 00:29:20.84\00:29:22.92 I will always bring a solution to the table. 00:29:22.96\00:29:25.56 What's interesting for the people watching, or at the café, 00:29:25.60\00:29:29.96 you have 'Power Over Addictions', CDs, books, 00:29:30.00\00:29:36.75 and CDs for teenagers. 00:29:36.78\00:29:39.11 You have books on crystal meth and videos that go with 00:29:39.15\00:29:42.17 that, so you really cover a lot of this in your material. 00:29:42.21\00:29:45.20 So when people talk to me and say, I'm not sure 00:29:45.24\00:29:49.98 I know enough about addictions. 00:29:50.02\00:29:52.36 I'm thinking, get yourself educated, get some books. 00:29:52.40\00:29:55.31 If you don't like to read get some CDs, but educate 00:29:55.35\00:29:58.20 yourself because the more educated we are, especially as 00:29:58.23\00:30:01.77 a church or in our communities, the more we can help to 00:30:01.81\00:30:05.60 bring in solutions instead of just aggravate the problems. 00:30:05.64\00:30:09.40 Yes, the more we know the less we fear. 00:30:09.43\00:30:11.33 It we don't know very much about addiction we are afraid 00:30:11.37\00:30:14.83 of addicts, we don't like addicts. 00:30:14.87\00:30:16.97 But if we understand addiction, we can reach out with 00:30:17.00\00:30:19.51 compassion to those addicts. 00:30:19.54\00:30:21.63 We are not expecting them, we just what you shared 00:30:21.66\00:30:24.82 with us, we aren't expecting them the next day to make 00:30:24.85\00:30:27.75 a major decisions, that we know it's going to take a 00:30:27.79\00:30:30.64 good year for this person to start making decisions and 00:30:30.67\00:30:33.49 being on their own. 00:30:33.52\00:30:34.97 So our expectations change. 00:30:35.00\00:30:37.10 We understand what they are up against biochemically, 00:30:37.14\00:30:40.91 and we don't expect a miracle, but what we do witness 00:30:40.94\00:30:44.68 is kind of a miracle. 00:30:44.71\00:30:46.24 We are watching the blossoming of the Holy Spirit in 00:30:46.28\00:30:49.64 somebody's life and it is almost like watching Lazarus 00:30:49.67\00:30:53.00 rise from the dead. It is beautiful! 00:30:53.03\00:30:56.08 We are going to open it up for comments, questions. 00:30:56.11\00:30:59.31 I know Hal you had a comment. 00:30:59.35\00:31:00.90 Yes I did, Doctor Holley is very interesting that you 00:31:00.93\00:31:03.31 are talking about the three months, six months as they 00:31:03.34\00:31:06.36 progress into this because there is a caller that calls 00:31:06.40\00:31:09.46 and in quite often, and her son, her name is Carolyn. 00:31:09.49\00:31:12.95 Her son never has made it past three months and he has 00:31:12.98\00:31:15.94 been in like 5 rehabs and she can't figure this out 00:31:15.97\00:31:18.84 because he seems like he's doing so good and then he 00:31:18.87\00:31:21.70 gets against a brick wall and he is back out 00:31:21.73\00:31:24.26 and back in trouble. 00:31:24.29\00:31:25.80 I've been praying for this young man in the Pastoral 00:31:25.84\00:31:28.62 Department now for three years, his name is Justin. 00:31:28.66\00:31:31.22 I'm not going to give up on him, but he could just make 00:31:31.26\00:31:33.82 it past three months do you feel like that would be 00:31:33.85\00:31:36.38 a turning point for him? 00:31:36.42\00:31:38.12 Three months is a turning point where they realize the 00:31:38.16\00:31:41.69 value to the sobriety, at about three months. 00:31:41.72\00:31:44.57 Get past that profound depression, but if they can't 00:31:44.61\00:31:48.54 get past that profound depression all by themselves, 00:31:48.57\00:31:51.46 they need a network of people around them. 00:31:51.49\00:31:53.47 He needs to be in a support group, or some outpatient 00:31:53.51\00:31:57.45 rehabilitation, or a halfway house to get past that 00:31:57.49\00:32:01.40 hard first few months. 00:32:01.43\00:32:04.16 Like to just start appreciating a life again. 00:32:04.20\00:32:06.32 This is amazing what I'm hearing, and the prayer requests 00:32:06.35\00:32:10.12 that are coming in from all over the world. 00:32:10.16\00:32:13.76 There are so many that will call, desperate, 00:32:13.79\00:32:16.89 I mean desperate to be delivered from this. 00:32:16.93\00:32:19.96 I just asked one man recently, why did you get on crystal meth? 00:32:20.00\00:32:24.64 He told me I enjoyed smoking weed, I enjoyed snorting coke, 00:32:24.68\00:32:28.72 but I went to crystal meth. I said why did you do this? 00:32:28.76\00:32:32.91 If my memory is correct on this, he said, marijuana is 00:32:32.94\00:32:36.90 $150 an ounce, an eighth ball, three and half grams of 00:32:36.93\00:32:40.86 cocaine is $250 and he said, meth is cheap. 00:32:40.89\00:32:45.12 He said not only is it cheap but it lasts a lot longer than 00:32:45.15\00:32:48.94 the cocaine would last, and this is why do it. 00:32:48.98\00:32:51.88 I said well are you able to quit? 00:32:51.92\00:32:54.11 He said no, after the first time I used this I realized 00:32:54.14\00:32:58.00 that I could not get past this. 00:32:58.03\00:33:00.26 I run into people although time on the streets, 00:33:00.30\00:33:02.81 and I know you have too, it is obvious that they are on 00:33:02.84\00:33:07.25 meth, their teeth are rotting out, their face have holes 00:33:07.29\00:33:11.66 in them and sunk in, like that. 00:33:11.69\00:33:14.03 As a matter of fact, I was at a dentist office recently, 00:33:14.07\00:33:17.29 he said, they are now holding seminars, dental seminars, 00:33:17.33\00:33:20.52 for what he referred to as meth mouth. 00:33:20.55\00:33:23.13 He showed me some pictures that were horrible, teeth all 00:33:23.17\00:33:27.59 gone, sores inside their mouth and everything else. 00:33:27.62\00:33:30.88 This is something that every one of us need to sincerely 00:33:30.91\00:33:34.86 pray about and seek God on. 00:33:34.90\00:33:37.29 Because this thing is a snowball rolling down the side of 00:33:37.32\00:33:41.06 a snow-covered hill. 00:33:41.09\00:33:42.14 It is growing, and we can't stick our head somewhere in the 00:33:42.17\00:33:45.53 sand and play an ostrich, neither can we be 00:33:45.57\00:33:48.01 a lion and roar, we need to be the Dove and reach out to 00:33:48.04\00:33:51.64 minister to these people. 00:33:51.67\00:33:53.11 I got a prayer request two weeks ago ended up e-mailing 00:33:53.15\00:33:55.85 the man and asking him to call me. 00:33:55.89\00:33:57.65 He lives in Chicago and is moving to Junction city Kansas. 00:33:57.68\00:34:04.13 I couldn't figure out why are you moving to 00:34:04.17\00:34:05.58 Junction City Kansas? 00:34:05.61\00:34:07.31 He said it's a farming area, put two and two together. 00:34:07.35\00:34:11.23 The fertilizer everywhere, what they use to make this 00:34:11.26\00:34:15.10 stuff with, if they can get the pseudoephedrine. 00:34:15.14\00:34:18.86 I went to Wal-Mart about two weeks ago, I had some sinus 00:34:18.89\00:34:21.82 problems and was go to get some Tylenol sinus and I had 00:34:21.85\00:34:24.55 to give a pint of blood, old yellow dog and my drivers 00:34:24.58\00:34:27.24 license just to get it. 00:34:27.28\00:34:28.76 This is affecting everybody so people sitting home think 00:34:28.79\00:34:33.60 this doesn't affect me, they better believe that it will 00:34:33.64\00:34:38.41 affect them, and affect them big time. 00:34:38.45\00:34:41.19 If you pay taxes methamphetamine affects you. 00:34:41.23\00:34:43.41 You are paying for the law- enforcement, incarceration, 00:34:43.44\00:34:46.71 the public hospital visits where they come in with their 00:34:46.75\00:34:49.98 strokes, the lab cleanup, the environmental damage, 00:34:50.02\00:34:53.88 the poisoned wells and destroyed property. 00:34:53.92\00:34:57.31 If you pay taxes, you are paying for methamphetamine. 00:34:57.34\00:35:00.44 Something else too, I think we have a tendency to think 00:35:00.47\00:35:03.53 it is the down and outers that are doing this. 00:35:03.57\00:35:06.67 I have a friend in Kentucky, I won't tell you names, 00:35:06.70\00:35:10.00 but she and her husband are very, very, wealthy and their 00:35:10.04\00:35:14.70 son not only does meth, he started selling meth and now he 00:35:14.73\00:35:19.36 is facing 20 years for doing this. 00:35:19.39\00:35:22.42 Had everything he wanted, everything he needed, 00:35:22.46\00:35:25.09 not that they just dished it out to him 00:35:25.12\00:35:27.28 but it was there to ask for. 00:35:27.32\00:35:29.02 It's like the prodigal son's brother, it was all there for 00:35:29.06\00:35:32.20 the taking and yet he is into this. 00:35:32.24\00:35:34.03 So it is easy for us to go after the down and outers, 00:35:34.07\00:35:37.24 but there are up and outers that need Jesus just as bad 00:35:37.27\00:35:40.41 as the down and outers. 00:35:40.44\00:35:42.19 These people are attracted to methamphetamine because 00:35:42.23\00:35:45.52 it makes them more effective, 00:35:45.55\00:35:47.00 more powerful, work longer hours. 00:35:47.03\00:35:49.88 They want to drive another hundred miles, 00:35:49.91\00:35:51.86 or work a double shift, or keep their place real clean, 00:35:51.89\00:35:55.58 or chase after three soccer kids, and they are intelligent 00:35:55.61\00:35:59.26 people that work hard. 00:35:59.30\00:36:01.19 They think they're getting by with it because they haven't 00:36:01.23\00:36:03.61 gotten to the point where their teeth are falling out yet. 00:36:03.65\00:36:06.46 They are not sunken in, they have lost weight yet and they 00:36:06.49\00:36:09.26 think they're getting by with it. 00:36:09.30\00:36:10.99 They are just as addicted as the skid row bum. 00:36:11.03\00:36:13.77 So what you are saying is that the meth does not affect 00:36:13.81\00:36:16.64 the lows, it keeps the highs up, but you don't go back 00:36:16.67\00:36:19.47 down in the lows when you first start doing it? 00:36:19.51\00:36:21.79 When you first start using it makes them feel powerful, 00:36:21.83\00:36:24.12 and attractive, and intelligent and invincible. 00:36:24.15\00:36:27.06 It is only in the later stages of addiction that they start 00:36:27.09\00:36:30.63 losing their teeth, losing their jobs, losing their families. 00:36:30.66\00:36:34.16 By then they are in a terrible pickle. 00:36:34.19\00:36:38.07 They are mentally addicted to it, emotionally addicted to 00:36:38.10\00:36:42.04 it, and physically addicted to it, but they think they are 00:36:42.07\00:36:45.97 just driving in another 100 miles, they are deluded. 00:36:46.01\00:36:50.67 To me it's a powerful thing that a lot of people don't, 00:36:50.70\00:36:55.33 you just don't see the end result of meth use. 00:36:55.36\00:36:59.95 A lot of drug use, all of a sudden it gets you, it comes 00:36:59.98\00:37:04.29 around and bites you and nothing works anymore. 00:37:04.32\00:37:07.04 I am not getting the same highs, I'm not feeling the same 00:37:07.07\00:37:09.39 and I'm afraid this power is a lie. 00:37:09.42\00:37:12.88 Even the addict eventually will feel that. 00:37:12.92\00:37:15.94 In the early stage addicts feel so wonderful and powerful 00:37:15.98\00:37:19.89 an intelligent, they don't realize when they've turned the 00:37:19.93\00:37:23.81 corner and started becoming self-destructive. 00:37:23.84\00:37:26.43 They still think they are in control, that is one of the 00:37:26.46\00:37:28.99 effects of the drug, the hallucination of control. 00:37:29.02\00:37:31.55 Some of these people are professionals doing six cities 00:37:31.59\00:37:34.74 in four days, one of whom was an obstetrician in Tulsa, 00:37:34.77\00:37:38.19 Oklahoma, and intelligent, educated woman delivering babies 00:37:38.23\00:37:41.61 for a living and she took speed to stay up all night. 00:37:41.65\00:37:44.37 People do that for weight loss, weight control so there is 00:37:44.41\00:37:48.59 a lot of reasons, but one of the things I have to say on 00:37:48.62\00:37:52.77 the show is they are all lies, they are all lies. 00:37:52.80\00:37:56.46 If I could do anything, I would love to convince people 00:37:56.49\00:38:00.00 to take care of themselves and get away from their 00:38:00.04\00:38:03.35 addictions, that is what this show is about. 00:38:03.39\00:38:05.67 Find Christ, turned it over to Him, step away from your 00:38:05.71\00:38:08.95 addictions before you cannot, before someone has to intervene. 00:38:08.98\00:38:12.49 Brian, I know that you had some comments. 00:38:12.53\00:38:15.17 Yeah I have a comment and a question. 00:38:15.20\00:38:17.77 I thank God that we serve a God that loves us 00:38:17.80\00:38:21.26 and doesn't give up on us. 00:38:21.30\00:38:22.91 I was a former drug and alcohol user as someone prayed for 00:38:22.94\00:38:27.55 me, I think the message that needs to get out there to the 00:38:27.59\00:38:31.31 family members of the users is, never give up on them. 00:38:31.35\00:38:34.82 Never give up on them, someone prayed for me and that is 00:38:34.85\00:38:38.29 why I am here today. 00:38:38.32\00:38:39.61 There is a lot people that just want to give up on these 00:38:39.65\00:38:42.94 drug users, but I thank God I learned some today, 00:38:42.98\00:38:46.65 Jesus is our healer and He can restore us back. 00:38:46.69\00:38:49.74 Did it bug you, when you were in the middle of your 00:38:49.78\00:38:52.77 addiction, they kept coming up and wanting you to clean up? 00:38:52.80\00:38:56.21 It bugged you, hey? - Yeah did, it did, like leave me alone. 00:38:56.24\00:39:00.15 They said no I'm not. - this is my life and I'm going to 00:39:00.19\00:39:03.93 live it the way want to live it, but I thank God someone 00:39:03.96\00:39:07.67 did not give up on these. 00:39:07.70\00:39:09.12 As long as they have a breath in their body we need to 00:39:09.16\00:39:12.17 keep praying for them and doing whatever we can for them 00:39:12.20\00:39:15.18 to get them clean and sober. 00:39:15.21\00:39:17.22 I wish that somehow we had, when you talk about treatment 00:39:17.25\00:39:21.43 centers, it is really difficult to get an addict 00:39:21.46\00:39:24.78 in treatment for a year. 00:39:24.81\00:39:26.05 You know teen challenge has a program for year. 00:39:26.08\00:39:28.51 There are people who do programs that last for an entire year, 00:39:28.54\00:39:32.42 it's tough for me to find, when I have a meth addict or 00:39:32.45\00:39:36.36 somebody I know they need somebody directing their steps 00:39:36.39\00:39:40.03 for a while, not just the weekend, not just 30 days. 00:39:40.06\00:39:43.54 Yes, and they have to agree to it, nobody can hold them 00:39:43.58\00:39:47.03 against their will, accept the law. 00:39:47.06\00:39:48.97 So, yeah keep them in jail for a year against their will, 00:39:49.01\00:39:52.22 but you can't keep them in a rehabilitation for a year 00:39:52.26\00:39:55.44 against their will, they have to want it. 00:39:55.48\00:39:57.74 It's generally after a future trip's through the county 00:39:57.78\00:40:00.52 jail that they decide they want to get clean bad enough 00:40:00.55\00:40:03.26 to stay in a program for full-year. 00:40:03.29\00:40:05.56 I so understand when they talk about, 00:40:05.60\00:40:07.80 like in San Francisco there is that prison on the island, 00:40:07.84\00:40:10.95 you know just get an island somewhere, lots of food, 00:40:10.99\00:40:15.31 lots of fruit and just say I'll be back in a year. 00:40:15.34\00:40:21.16 That sounds so cruel, but for me it is amazing as God 00:40:21.20\00:40:25.80 restores some of the stuff within myself, all of a sudden 00:40:25.83\00:40:30.39 to fill health for the first time is absolutely the 00:40:30.43\00:40:33.42 coolest thing ever, to just feel that start to restore and feel 00:40:33.46\00:40:37.91 that life and your personality is starting to come out. 00:40:37.95\00:40:41.65 It is so incredible, and I know that with a lot of addicts that 00:40:41.68\00:40:45.93 I work with, is that I cannot hardly convince them, 00:40:45.96\00:40:48.21 please give me three months, six months because you will 00:40:48.24\00:40:51.87 start to feel it and then you will self reinforce. 00:40:51.90\00:40:55.37 Do you know what I mean? 00:40:55.40\00:40:57.15 You are feeling good from within, instead of somebody 00:40:57.19\00:40:59.66 forcing you to toe the line, stand up straight, 00:40:59.70\00:41:02.91 you will feel that strength from within and it becomes 00:41:02.95\00:41:07.08 authentic and natural and spontaneous. 00:41:07.12\00:41:09.82 I woke up for the first time and felt healthy, but I felt so 00:41:09.86\00:41:13.04 happy and I was thinking is it my birthday, what's going on? 00:41:13.07\00:41:16.22 I was trying, just in my head, trying to figure out 00:41:16.26\00:41:18.50 what was going on, and I heard the Holy Spirit say, 00:41:18.54\00:41:21.45 no this is health. I'm like shut up, I love this. 00:41:21.49\00:41:25.75 It had been so long since I had felt that that I was 00:41:25.78\00:41:29.54 overjoyed, this is a, this is what it feels like to feel 00:41:29.57\00:41:32.99 joy and God says, the joy of our Lord is our strength. 00:41:33.03\00:41:36.37 God says I will pour that into you, that you will feel joy, 00:41:36.41\00:41:39.45 maybe for the first time for some of us. 00:41:39.48\00:41:41.39 The things that actually come into your life after you do 00:41:41.43\00:41:45.62 give recovery time, you wouldn't trade for anything. 00:41:45.66\00:41:49.40 I wouldn't trade my life for anybody, I never thought 00:41:49.44\00:41:52.46 I would say that, but that's what recovery brings to you. 00:41:52.49\00:41:55.48 Curly, you had a question. 00:41:55.51\00:41:58.46 Yeah, your brother, did he OD, is that how he passed away? 00:41:58.50\00:42:03.23 My brother committed suicide under the influence of 00:42:03.27\00:42:06.06 methamphetamine, he had been clean off and on, 00:42:06.10\00:42:09.41 struggling with it, going to programs and taking 00:42:09.45\00:42:12.72 medication and he tried to stay clean, 00:42:12.76\00:42:15.50 but the hallucinations wouldn't go away. 00:42:15.53\00:42:18.20 The satellites in space for telling him to kill yourself, 00:42:18.23\00:42:21.49 kill yourself, kill yourself, constantly. 00:42:21.52\00:42:24.27 He would take psychiatric medicine that would slow 00:42:24.31\00:42:28.15 it down, quiet it down a little bit, 00:42:28.19\00:42:30.27 but it never completely went away. 00:42:30.31\00:42:32.32 He was like I cannot live like this and so he got a gun 00:42:32.36\00:42:36.04 on the Fourth of July, we thought it was a firecracker. 00:42:36.08\00:42:39.73 Was he at your house still? 00:42:39.77\00:42:42.63 He was a my uncles house, uncle son had just gotten 00:42:42.67\00:42:45.78 married and they had a wedding celebration and the next 00:42:45.81\00:42:48.85 day, after everybody has left town, it was the fourth of July. 00:42:48.89\00:42:52.47 He killed himself in the basement of the house and 00:42:52.51\00:42:56.09 we all thought it was just a firecracker. 00:42:56.13\00:42:58.21 Was he turning to God at this point, trying to... 00:42:58.25\00:43:01.14 the day before his suicide he had wanted to go to church. 00:43:01.17\00:43:04.83 Mom had to take him to church, I've got to go to church. 00:43:04.87\00:43:07.72 The only church they could find was a little Methodist 00:43:07.75\00:43:10.92 Church, and he went to 8:30 service and stayed for the 00:43:10.95\00:43:13.53 10 o'clock service because he wanted to hear it again. 00:43:13.57\00:43:16.11 But the next day he caved in. 00:43:16.15\00:43:19.99 when someone is in recovery like that, for a lot of us, 00:43:21.76\00:43:25.30 is you really do have to pay attention and watch them. 00:43:25.34\00:43:29.73 Not that you can catch everyone, what I mean is you don't 00:43:29.77\00:43:33.27 get signals for some, but for some you do, so pay attention. 00:43:33.31\00:43:36.64 During that first three months, six months there is a lot 00:43:36.67\00:43:40.10 of potential for suicide because you feel so horrible. 00:43:40.14\00:43:43.50 So depressed, so grouchy, from the radio, from the TV, you're 00:43:43.53\00:43:49.28 getting all this psychotic stuff that will be less, but you are 00:43:49.32\00:43:55.03 not really safe with yourself. 00:43:55.07\00:43:57.95 No! - with your family, how is everybody? 00:43:57.99\00:44:04.79 With your brothers and stuff, I know you are really 00:44:04.83\00:44:07.44 reaching out and educating people. 00:44:07.48\00:44:10.13 Yeah, for the first year after he died I did want to think 00:44:10.17\00:44:12.85 about it, I did want talk about it, I didn't want nothing 00:44:12.88\00:44:15.53 to do with methamphetamine. 00:44:15.57\00:44:17.06 Were you angry at the drug culture itself? 00:44:17.10\00:44:20.16 I closed down, I just didn't want anything to do with it. 00:44:20.20\00:44:23.29 But then after about a year I started noticing that my 00:44:23.33\00:44:25.85 patience were coming in and acting just as crazy as Jim 00:44:25.89\00:44:28.81 was, and that is what motivated me to look into it. 00:44:28.84\00:44:31.89 Yeah, the first paper I saw, that I pulled up on the 00:44:31.93\00:44:35.36 Internet, was about how methamphetamine causes this kind 00:44:35.40\00:44:38.79 of brain damage to these kind of Cells, 00:44:38.83\00:44:40.57 and it was exactly what my brother had told me. 00:44:40.60\00:44:43.05 He kept insisting he had brain damage from this drug and 00:44:43.09\00:44:45.94 I kept telling him that's nonsense, drugs don't do that 00:44:45.98\00:44:48.79 kind of thing to your brain. 00:44:48.83\00:44:50.47 I thought it was a cop out, that he was just playing the brain 00:44:50.50\00:44:53.26 damage game to avoid doing what he needed to do to stay 00:44:53.30\00:44:55.38 clean, but everything he described was right there 00:44:55.41\00:44:59.16 on that scientific paper, he really did damage 00:44:59.20\00:45:02.91 his brain using that drug. 00:45:02.94\00:45:05.04 The hair stood up on the back of my neck and I got sick 00:45:05.07\00:45:08.23 to my stomach when I realize what really happened to him. 00:45:08.27\00:45:11.39 And you wanted to tell someone. 00:45:11.43\00:45:13.74 - I wanted to tell someone. 00:45:13.78\00:45:16.02 I started teaching at the local rehabilitation center, 00:45:16.06\00:45:18.41 and the juvenile probation, and the county jail. 00:45:18.44\00:45:20.94 I start writing little articles and putting them in the 00:45:20.98\00:45:23.57 local newspaper and people kept 00:45:23.60\00:45:25.20 calling me for more information. 00:45:25.24\00:45:26.77 There are some mug shots that you have on your website. 00:45:26.80\00:45:29.33 I would like to bring them up and show them, 00:45:29.36\00:45:31.91 explain to us what we are seeing as far as the girl 00:45:31.95\00:45:34.19 that got arrested a number of times? 00:45:34.23\00:45:36.59 Oh, there are serious of about six pictures. 00:45:36.63\00:45:39.07 The first time she was arrested she was about 00:45:39.11\00:45:41.49 32 years old, she worked as a librarian in Hollywood Florida. 00:45:41.52\00:45:45.43 She a couple little kids, she was a productive member of 00:45:45.46\00:45:48.60 society, but over the next several years 00:45:48.64\00:45:51.47 she disintegrated, her cheeks sunk in, her skin turned 00:45:51.51\00:45:55.37 gray, and the last picture you notice her nose and her 00:45:55.41\00:45:59.24 chin are a little too close together and that is 00:45:59.27\00:46:01.67 because her teeth are gone. 00:46:01.70\00:46:03.05 When your jaw just collapses in on itself, it's pretty 00:46:03.09\00:46:06.23 amazing. - bones disintegrate, there's not even 00:46:06.27\00:46:08.40 anything to put a denture on. 00:46:08.44\00:46:10.07 Yes and pictures to of children that have been taken 00:46:10.10\00:46:14.88 out of meth houses during the arrest. 00:46:14.92\00:46:16.87 Can you talk a little bit about that? 00:46:16.90\00:46:18.79 Children that had broken bones, chemical burns. 00:46:18.82\00:46:22.21 This one little girl, where her mother's tweaker 00:46:22.25\00:46:25.04 boyfriend thought it was fun to pull her hair out 00:46:25.07\00:46:28.33 one strand at a time, just to hear her scream. 00:46:28.36\00:46:31.54 Children with chemical burns on their bottoms where 00:46:31.58\00:46:35.62 they were in a lab when it exploded. 00:46:35.65\00:46:38.38 These kids come out of these environments and 00:46:38.42\00:46:41.74 they don't know what's normal. 00:46:41.78\00:46:43.47 They literally, on some of the kids I've worked with, 00:46:43.50\00:46:46.15 have meth scores, and they are not users, 00:46:46.19\00:46:49.28 they are just inhaling the drug around them. 00:46:49.32\00:46:52.34 If it is in the carpet, or on the floor, the little kids, 00:46:52.38\00:46:56.53 the first thing they do is put their fingers in 00:46:56.56\00:46:57.94 their mouths and they can get toxic levels of methamphetamine 00:46:57.98\00:47:01.95 just from putting their fingers in their mouth. 00:47:01.99\00:47:03.73 The ventilation system, it's blown into every room in the 00:47:03.76\00:47:06.67 house, so they could cook it in the kitchen, but the far 00:47:06.70\00:47:09.83 bedroom, four rooms away, still has toxic levels of meth 00:47:09.86\00:47:12.95 just in the air they breathe. 00:47:12.98\00:47:14.89 When you think of all that, and the environment that kids 00:47:14.92\00:47:21.42 are being raised in, and the mindset of the addict 00:47:21.46\00:47:26.09 themselves is that it is hard to go in and just say 00:47:26.13\00:47:29.59 common sense, you need to stop this, what you're doing. 00:47:29.62\00:47:33.04 You're just not thinking, right? 00:47:33.08\00:47:35.20 So when you intervene with somebody, if a family member 00:47:35.24\00:47:38.12 is watching and they really want to intervene with 00:47:38.15\00:47:40.60 somebody that is that out of control, could you give 00:47:40.64\00:47:43.06 them suggestions on what to do? 00:47:43.09\00:47:45.09 There are a set of professionals called, interventionists. 00:47:45.12\00:47:49.03 They do an effective job of confronting a person with the 00:47:49.06\00:47:52.42 reality of what they are doing, that is a professional 00:47:52.46\00:47:55.78 level job, you can't do that by yourself. 00:47:55.82\00:47:58.45 If you don't have access to an interventionist, 00:47:58.48\00:48:01.21 you can find one at us psychologist office. 00:48:01.25\00:48:03.91 I used to be on those teams come if you call in to any 00:48:03.94\00:48:07.05 psych hospital, a lot of times they will have teams that 00:48:07.09\00:48:10.17 will go out with you. 00:48:10.20\00:48:11.55 Yes, but if you don't have access to that in your little 00:48:11.58\00:48:14.26 rinky-dink town, you have to use the Police Department. 00:48:14.30\00:48:17.12 If there is any way you can file charges, if they have 00:48:17.15\00:48:20.14 stolen anything from you, if they ran off with your car 00:48:20.17\00:48:22.86 and didn't bring it back, call it grand theft auto. 00:48:22.89\00:48:25.54 Get the kid arrested. 00:48:25.58\00:48:27.37 For someone listening right now, why would you answer my 00:48:27.40\00:48:30.91 question with that? Because they are going to say, 00:48:30.95\00:48:32.93 did you just ask how we help? 00:48:32.97\00:48:35.21 What you are saying is, call the police. 00:48:35.24\00:48:37.62 Why would you answer that? 00:48:37.66\00:48:39.11 You want to stop your kid from using, the other word for stop 00:48:39.15\00:48:42.25 is arrest, nobody else can hold him against his will. 00:48:42.28\00:48:45.55 One of the meth addicts that I work with says, I wasn't 00:48:45.58\00:48:48.81 arrested, I was rescued. - yes! 00:48:48.85\00:48:50.66 So when they get their sense back, if people can intervene 00:48:50.69\00:48:54.22 long enough, if they can get the drug out of their body 00:48:54.26\00:48:57.54 long enough, then maybe you can reason with them somewhat. 00:48:57.58\00:49:00.76 Yes, I met a woman in Indiana that had been arrested on her 00:49:00.79\00:49:03.94 meth charges, that is what brought her around where 00:49:03.97\00:49:06.14 she could live again. 00:49:06.18\00:49:07.92 She was giving a seminar to her community and I was 00:49:07.95\00:49:10.75 invited to speak there. 00:49:10.78\00:49:12.21 One of those people who spoke with me 00:49:12.25\00:49:13.90 was her arresting officer. 00:49:13.94\00:49:15.62 She was so grateful to this man for stopping her and saving her 00:49:15.66\00:49:19.88 life, just tears, tears running down her face as 00:49:19.91\00:49:22.83 she hugged his neck. 00:49:22.86\00:49:24.67 Not the night she got arrested? Nope, not that night. 00:49:24.71\00:49:28.44 So it's hard to say, if we're going to intervene in the 00:49:28.47\00:49:32.17 community from a church level, or our families, 00:49:32.21\00:49:35.76 it is not going to be pleasant initially, 00:49:35.79\00:49:38.59 but you save somebody's life. 00:49:38.62\00:49:40.76 They are going to cuss, they're going to scream, 00:49:40.79\00:49:42.78 they're going to threaten to burn your house down and 00:49:42.81\00:49:45.16 they might very well turn around and burn 00:49:45.19\00:49:47.46 your house down, you have to do it anyway. 00:49:47.49\00:49:49.72 Get insured first! No kidding! 00:49:49.76\00:49:53.46 I hear what you're saying, what you're saying is for 00:49:54.98\00:49:57.69 a lot of people I work with, a lot of the addicts, 00:49:57.73\00:50:00.99 they truly know that I care about them so I lot of 00:50:01.03\00:50:04.26 anger stuff doesn't come back on me. 00:50:04.29\00:50:06.34 Not that I don't get cussed out in that stuff but the 00:50:06.37\00:50:08.81 really hard-core anger doesn't come back. 00:50:08.84\00:50:10.90 So if you can, I care about you, I love you and 00:50:10.93\00:50:16.62 let that always be spoken. 00:50:16.66\00:50:18.38 I hate what this drug is doing to your body. 00:50:18.41\00:50:21.80 I hate what it is doing to your children. 00:50:21.84\00:50:25.16 I hate the fact that you can let them sit here and 00:50:25.20\00:50:27.87 not even pay attention to them for four or six hours 00:50:27.90\00:50:30.53 and not even know if you have the kids or not, 00:50:30.57\00:50:33.49 because I hate all that, but I love you and 00:50:33.53\00:50:36.38 I will not let go, I will not stop trying to intervene. 00:50:36.41\00:50:40.88 Trying to get your life back together. 00:50:40.91\00:50:42.57 Keep praying, even when there is no communication with 00:50:42.61\00:50:46.23 that kid whatsoever, he doesn't call you and 00:50:46.26\00:50:48.31 you don't call him, you can still pray for that kid. 00:50:48.34\00:50:51.12 So you believe that prayer matters? 00:50:51.15\00:50:53.12 Oh absolutely! - I have to say that, some people say, 00:50:53.15\00:50:57.30 all I can do is pray and I'm thinking stop! 00:50:57.34\00:51:00.40 All of heaven is down there. 00:51:00.44\00:51:02.61 It's the most powerful thing you can do is pray, all of heaven 00:51:02.64\00:51:05.03 responds when you pray for that kid. 00:51:05.06\00:51:07.11 So for people that are outside of the problem, 00:51:07.14\00:51:10.68 even the communities when it is not a child involved, 00:51:10.72\00:51:13.56 you want to change a community. 00:51:13.60\00:51:15.56 Randy Maxwell is a prayer guide I love. 00:51:15.59\00:51:18.05 He is a friend of mine, just married my daughter. 00:51:18.09\00:51:20.24 He was a Pastor that married my daughter. 00:51:20.28\00:51:22.68 He really believes in prayer, so I think for a lot of 00:51:22.72\00:51:26.46 people, if you have any concern whether 00:51:26.50\00:51:28.97 prayer is answered, study it. 00:51:29.01\00:51:30.64 Read in the Bible what God says about prayer, 00:51:30.67\00:51:32.95 because when you realize that Christ intercede for us 00:51:32.99\00:51:37.34 in the very throne room. 00:51:37.38\00:51:39.53 He says, pray, the Holy Spirit sometimes changes your 00:51:39.57\00:51:42.88 prayer, if you can't really get it as deep as you want 00:51:42.92\00:51:45.54 to get, the Holy Spirit knows what you want to say and 00:51:45.57\00:51:48.16 will say it for you. 00:51:48.20\00:51:49.24 Christ Himself is interceding for you, saying out loud, 00:51:49.28\00:51:52.44 in the presence of God, and intercedes for the person 00:51:52.47\00:51:55.60 you are praying for. 00:51:55.63\00:51:56.60 So it is huge, and for people that are not Christian, 00:51:56.61\00:51:59.60 I want to say, sorry, because it is huge 00:51:59.64\00:52:02.94 and prayer does matter. 00:52:02.97\00:52:04.65 And you better watch out when you pray for that kid. 00:52:04.68\00:52:06.94 Because he's going to lose his job, he's going to get 00:52:06.98\00:52:09.02 kicked out of his place, he's going to end up living 00:52:09.06\00:52:11.18 in the back of his car and eating out of dumpsters, 00:52:11.21\00:52:13.29 because that is what the Holy Spirit is going to do 00:52:13.33\00:52:15.37 to save your child's life. 00:52:15.41\00:52:17.90 You have to let Him do it. You have to let it happen. 00:52:17.94\00:52:21.67 What I think is amazing, tell me what you think about this. 00:52:21.70\00:52:26.38 Not only let it happen, but when you look at that child, 00:52:26.41\00:52:31.06 I want you to look at the child as under there, 00:52:31.09\00:52:34.11 and when they see your eyes I don't want them to see fear 00:52:34.15\00:52:37.03 or anger or somehow that you think that 00:52:37.06\00:52:39.47 this drug is going to take them out. 00:52:39.51\00:52:41.85 I want to look at you and say that I know that 00:52:41.88\00:52:45.56 God is answering my prayer. 00:52:45.60\00:52:46.83 I cannot give you this hundred bucks, but I know that 00:52:46.86\00:52:49.85 tonight I'm going to be on my knees and that 00:52:49.89\00:52:51.97 God is going to answer this. 00:52:52.01\00:52:53.38 As mad as you are right now that I am even praying, and 00:52:53.42\00:52:55.27 I am going to pray that you no longer can feel this drug 00:52:55.30\00:52:57.60 and pray that you no longer can get high, that you can't 00:52:57.64\00:52:59.90 find it because I love you and I want you home. 00:52:59.94\00:53:03.27 You have a confidence about yourself when you handle 00:53:03.31\00:53:07.33 them that way, that confidence speaks volumes about 00:53:07.36\00:53:11.35 their potential to recover. 00:53:11.39\00:53:13.11 They see it in your eyes. 00:53:13.15\00:53:14.80 A lot of times I will see some body that will minister 00:53:14.84\00:53:19.14 to their child and they looked defeated, and 00:53:19.18\00:53:21.69 they really do not believe in the power prayer or that 00:53:21.73\00:53:24.35 God is going to respond, because when they look at them 00:53:24.38\00:53:26.97 it is almost like they're buying funeral clothes. 00:53:27.01\00:53:29.30 Don't let them see that in your eyes because they take 00:53:29.33\00:53:32.66 that on, you get an addict that is not thinking clearly, 00:53:32.69\00:53:35.85 that is paranoid, that is not reasoning the same way, 00:53:35.88\00:53:38.80 and the only reality they are seeing is the defeat 00:53:38.84\00:53:41.73 they see in your eyes. 00:53:41.76\00:53:43.14 Don't do it, I don't care who you have to get to affirm 00:53:43.18\00:53:46.40 yourself, to lift up yourself, but let them lift you up. 00:53:46.44\00:53:50.45 Let them really start to get you some solid ground to 00:53:50.48\00:53:53.68 stand on so that when this child is in front of you, 00:53:53.71\00:53:56.65 or when spouse or whoever the addict is in front of you, 00:53:56.69\00:53:59.60 you are saying I know that 00:53:59.63\00:54:01.46 God is bigger than this addiction. I know it. 00:54:01.50\00:54:03.82 If you let them make you angry you have just given them control 00:54:03.85\00:54:07.82 over you, and as long as they are in control, 00:54:07.86\00:54:11.04 they think everything is fine. 00:54:11.07\00:54:12.69 If they can make you angry, they control you. 00:54:12.72\00:54:15.45 But if you have confidence in peace in the Lord, 00:54:15.48\00:54:18.14 then you don't get angry, you don't have to get angry. 00:54:18.17\00:54:21.13 Because I am not talking to this drug, I'm done. 00:54:21.16\00:54:23.86 I'm done and I am going to wait for 00:54:23.90\00:54:25.67 God to make a difference here. 00:54:25.70\00:54:28.36 I would like to say again, it was amazing to have you on 00:54:28.39\00:54:31.31 the show, you have so much information and 00:54:31.34\00:54:34.06 I am so glad that you shared it with us. 00:54:34.10\00:54:36.75 I'm sorry about your brother, but I know that God 00:54:36.78\00:54:40.32 is using everything you do for His glory and 00:54:40.36\00:54:42.68 to vindicate His name, which is amazing. 00:54:42.72\00:54:44.97 We will be right back, but as we take this break I want 00:54:45.01\00:54:49.20 you to think about that we as Christians have the 00:54:49.24\00:54:53.69 throne room of God to go to. 00:54:53.72\00:54:55.88 Even if you have no addicts in your family, 00:54:55.92\00:54:58.56 let's say you have somehow, in this world, 00:54:58.59\00:55:01.68 gotten through life with intact families, and 00:55:01.71\00:55:04.69 the community around you has not been so lucky. 00:55:04.73\00:55:07.64 We have the ability and the privilege to pray for them. 00:55:07.67\00:55:10.83 To pray and ask God, please step in, 00:55:10.86\00:55:13.74 change this community, take it back. 00:55:13.78\00:55:16.58 If you can get one more person in, and one more person 00:55:16.62\00:55:20.10 in and watch God do what God does best. 00:55:20.14\00:55:23.32 He brings restoration and healing. 00:55:23.36\00:55:25.04 Stay right with us, will be right back! 00:55:25.07\00:55:26.92 Cheri Peters uses the book, 'Coming Of The Comforter' 00:55:32.74\00:55:35.39 as a guide for the second season of Celebrating Life In 00:55:35.42\00:55:38.52 Recovery, written by Lee Roy E.
