Child Impact's investment in the lives 00:00:20.72\00:00:22.62 of more than 3,500 children 00:00:22.65\00:00:24.89 continues to yield infinite returns. 00:00:24.92\00:00:27.76 Outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:00:27.79\00:00:30.29 to providing an education and a home for deaf 00:00:30.33\00:00:33.13 and blind children and orphans. 00:00:33.16\00:00:35.30 Above all, Child Impact's sponsors give hope 00:00:35.33\00:00:38.87 to the ones who need it the most. 00:00:38.90\00:00:40.60 Hi, I'm Jim Rennie from Child Impact International. 00:00:46.01\00:00:50.11 And I just wanted to take a moment 00:00:50.18\00:00:51.81 to update you on the field in regards to the challenges 00:00:51.85\00:00:56.08 that we face with COVID. 00:00:56.12\00:00:58.35 In India, Bangladesh and Myanmar, unfortunately, 00:00:58.39\00:01:03.09 it's been pretty bad and it's still is. 00:01:03.12\00:01:06.13 Many of our staff and teachers in the schools 00:01:06.16\00:01:09.23 that we serve and also church pastors 00:01:09.26\00:01:12.33 and church workers have caught the virus. 00:01:12.37\00:01:15.37 And sadly, some have passed away. 00:01:15.40\00:01:18.37 To be honest, it's been a real challenge. 00:01:18.41\00:01:21.84 Most of the schools are still closed. 00:01:21.88\00:01:24.58 But I'm excited to announce that in the next two weeks, 00:01:24.61\00:01:27.68 the schools in India are starting to reopen. 00:01:27.72\00:01:31.55 Your ongoing support during this crisis has made 00:01:31.59\00:01:35.56 a real difference. 00:01:35.59\00:01:36.99 It's made a difference in the lives of the children. 00:01:37.03\00:01:40.06 It's made a difference in the lives of the teachers. 00:01:40.10\00:01:42.70 But your ongoing support is really going to ensure 00:01:42.73\00:01:46.67 that some of these mission schools do remain open. 00:01:46.70\00:01:51.87 Your contribution to the Rice, 00:01:51.91\00:01:54.04 Health and Education appeal has had a big impact. 00:01:54.11\00:01:58.11 It has enabled us to distribute over 20,000 sacks 00:01:58.15\00:02:02.92 of rice to our children, 00:02:02.95\00:02:05.62 to the teaching staff and to the pastors. 00:02:05.65\00:02:08.89 Many of these workers have not been paid or are on half wages. 00:02:08.92\00:02:13.50 So your generous giving has had a real impact on their lives. 00:02:13.53\00:02:19.07 During this time 00:02:19.10\00:02:20.60 The Where Needed Most Fund has been very well supported. 00:02:20.64\00:02:24.47 And it's enabled us 00:02:24.51\00:02:25.91 to keep working in these difficult areas 00:02:25.94\00:02:29.18 during the virus crisis. 00:02:29.21\00:02:31.55 And just at our last meeting, 00:02:31.58\00:02:33.78 last Sunday, we voted $90,000 00:02:33.82\00:02:37.75 to help some urgently needed projects 00:02:37.79\00:02:40.52 for Adventist mission schools in Bangladesh. 00:02:40.56\00:02:43.73 We will implement these when the schools open. 00:02:43.79\00:02:46.96 And we're now seeing the side effects 00:02:47.00\00:02:48.86 or the downside of COVID. 00:02:48.90\00:02:51.63 And in India, 00:02:51.67\00:02:53.00 there are thousands of COVID orphans. 00:02:53.03\00:02:56.20 These are children who have lost both parents 00:02:56.24\00:02:58.97 or one parent and are unable to cope anymore. 00:02:59.01\00:03:04.35 These kids are often rejected by the rest of the society 00:03:04.38\00:03:08.08 or the village. 00:03:08.12\00:03:09.45 And we're just so excited 00:03:09.48\00:03:10.82 that we've been able to take 40 of these COVID orphans 00:03:10.89\00:03:15.12 into our home at Sunrise. 00:03:15.16\00:03:17.33 And we're looking at ways of working with the government 00:03:17.36\00:03:20.40 to support many more of them. 00:03:20.43\00:03:22.83 We see it as a big opportunity 00:03:22.86\00:03:24.63 and a new project for Operation Child Rescue. 00:03:24.67\00:03:28.04 And we're just so excited about this. 00:03:28.07\00:03:31.84 Some of you may know 00:03:31.87\00:03:33.21 that I'm stepping down as CEO, 00:03:33.24\00:03:35.61 and I'll be returning to my home country in New Zealand. 00:03:35.64\00:03:39.61 And I just want to thank you each one for the support 00:03:39.65\00:03:42.75 that you have given me and Child Impact over 14 years. 00:03:42.78\00:03:47.52 You've seen the organization grow 00:03:47.56\00:03:49.99 and we simply couldn't have done it 00:03:50.03\00:03:52.26 without you the donor, you the sponsor. 00:03:52.29\00:03:55.43 And I'm just so proud of what we've achieved. 00:03:55.46\00:03:58.83 But I'm just so grateful to your generosity 00:03:58.87\00:04:02.60 and the blessings of the Lord. 00:04:02.64\00:04:05.34 Well, today I'm very excited 00:04:05.37\00:04:07.21 that I can introduce the new Child Impact 00:04:07.28\00:04:10.65 International CEO, Tom Evans. 00:04:10.68\00:04:13.92 Tom, welcome to Child Impact. 00:04:13.95\00:04:15.98 Thank you, Jim. 00:04:16.02\00:04:17.39 I just want to clarify something though. 00:04:17.42\00:04:19.45 You said that you're stepping down, 00:04:19.49\00:04:21.19 but you're actually not stepping away. 00:04:21.22\00:04:23.86 We have met as a board and we would really like 00:04:23.93\00:04:26.43 to have you continue in a role in particular 00:04:26.46\00:04:29.16 with India and Bangladesh. 00:04:29.20\00:04:30.73 Can you share a little bit about that? 00:04:30.77\00:04:33.23 Yes, in these countries, we are facing a lot of change, 00:04:33.30\00:04:37.27 a lot of challenges. 00:04:37.31\00:04:38.97 And so we want to conduct a full review 00:04:39.01\00:04:42.28 of our education program, of our sponsorship program. 00:04:42.31\00:04:47.48 There are challenges with government regulation, 00:04:47.52\00:04:51.29 with standards of education, political issues. 00:04:51.32\00:04:55.56 And so my job will be to conduct a review 00:04:55.59\00:04:59.96 and to make recommendations to the Child Impact board. 00:05:00.06\00:05:04.30 I've been operating in those field now for 14 years. 00:05:04.33\00:05:07.70 And so I'm excited to take on this challenge 00:05:07.74\00:05:10.71 because it's really needed at this time. 00:05:10.74\00:05:13.07 And, Jim, I'm looking forward to journeying with you in that 00:05:13.11\00:05:17.15 and having the benefit of all of your knowledge 00:05:17.18\00:05:20.12 of each of these projects. 00:05:20.15\00:05:21.48 Thanks, Tom. 00:05:21.52\00:05:22.85 And I can continue to support you in your role as well. 00:05:22.88\00:05:28.32 So tell us about Tom Evans? 00:05:28.36\00:05:30.76 Sure. 00:05:30.83\00:05:32.53 Look, I always start out by saying I was born in Texas. 00:05:32.56\00:05:35.90 You know, because everything's bigger in Texas, right? 00:05:35.93\00:05:39.10 But grew up in the northwest. 00:05:39.13\00:05:41.04 So that's where the accent is from and had an opportunity 00:05:41.07\00:05:44.41 to attend Adventist schools. 00:05:44.44\00:05:47.04 What a blessing. 00:05:47.08\00:05:48.41 I remember I went to public school for one day, 00:05:48.44\00:05:50.81 Jim and I got kicked out the first day of school. 00:05:50.85\00:05:53.42 So they called my parents to come pick him up. 00:05:53.48\00:05:55.15 So that's when I started my Adventist education. 00:05:55.18\00:05:57.72 So it's a big story, but I won't go there. 00:05:57.75\00:05:59.65 But in any case, it's a blessing. 00:05:59.69\00:06:01.56 And we're so blessed to have those opportunities. 00:06:01.59\00:06:04.26 I was able to attend Newbold College over in England as well 00:06:04.29\00:06:07.66 and graduated from Walla Walla University 00:06:07.66\00:06:10.47 and then also a couple times from Andrews University. 00:06:10.50\00:06:13.37 Right. And tell us about your family? 00:06:13.44\00:06:15.77 Sure, that's the most important part. 00:06:15.80\00:06:18.17 I have three grown daughters. 00:06:18.21\00:06:19.97 And we have, they live in Texas 00:06:20.01\00:06:22.01 and I have two boys that are both in high school, 00:06:22.04\00:06:26.55 in academy. 00:06:26.58\00:06:28.12 But that wasn't enough. 00:06:28.15\00:06:29.48 We just adopted two boys from an orphanage in Latvia. 00:06:29.52\00:06:31.89 Wow. Yeah. 00:06:31.92\00:06:33.36 And we really went out because they're both, 00:06:33.39\00:06:36.96 one is 13, and one's 12. 00:06:37.03\00:06:38.56 So we get to enjoy them for their whole teenage years. 00:06:38.59\00:06:42.46 We've known the boys for a while, 00:06:42.50\00:06:44.57 they visited during Christmas and summers. 00:06:44.60\00:06:47.64 And we finally have been able to get that adoption 00:06:47.67\00:06:50.27 pulled together. 00:06:50.31\00:06:51.64 Tom, tell us about the roles 00:06:51.67\00:06:53.14 that you've held before coming into this new position? 00:06:53.17\00:06:56.18 Sure. 00:06:56.21\00:06:57.55 I've been a pastor, local church pastor. 00:06:57.61\00:06:59.55 Church planting has been a big passion of mine, 00:06:59.58\00:07:02.05 starting new churches. 00:07:02.08\00:07:03.42 And during our time in Texas there as a departmental leader, 00:07:03.45\00:07:07.09 we planted 114 churches in nine years. 00:07:07.12\00:07:09.89 So that was quite an adventure and exciting. 00:07:09.92\00:07:12.49 But I went from there to teach at the seminary 00:07:12.53\00:07:14.46 at Andrews University. 00:07:14.46\00:07:16.50 The interesting thing, though 00:07:16.53\00:07:17.87 and how does that all relate to Child Impact 00:07:17.90\00:07:19.93 is whatever role that I've been in, 00:07:19.97\00:07:22.24 I've really, my desire, 00:07:22.27\00:07:24.14 my heart is to look for those individuals 00:07:24.21\00:07:26.78 that are marginalized, neglected. 00:07:26.81\00:07:29.81 And so working with refugees or single moms 00:07:29.84\00:07:33.65 or sponsoring children, whatever that may be. 00:07:33.72\00:07:35.98 That's always been part of my heart 00:07:36.02\00:07:37.92 and part of the ministry I've been involved in. 00:07:37.95\00:07:40.36 Wow. 00:07:40.39\00:07:41.72 And what do you see as the future? 00:07:41.76\00:07:44.33 What excites you about Child Impact? 00:07:44.36\00:07:46.80 And what do you see as the future? 00:07:46.83\00:07:49.36 First of all, I think Child Impact is a great name. 00:07:49.40\00:07:51.97 I also like the name Operation Child Rescue 00:07:52.00\00:07:54.37 because I think in the name Child Impact, 00:07:54.40\00:07:56.67 it really encapsulates what is being done. 00:07:56.71\00:08:00.51 It's making a difference in the life of a child. 00:08:00.54\00:08:03.11 And that difference begins, you know, 00:08:03.14\00:08:05.48 with their Adventist Mission School experience, 00:08:05.51\00:08:07.55 but it extends to their family and it gives them 00:08:07.58\00:08:10.72 a whole different direction for their life. 00:08:10.75\00:08:13.05 So I'm very excited about the mission 00:08:13.09\00:08:15.62 what Child Impact represents. 00:08:15.66\00:08:18.56 In terms of coming to this role, for me, 00:08:18.59\00:08:21.76 it's exciting to see an alignment 00:08:21.80\00:08:23.77 between my personal passion, my personal life 00:08:23.80\00:08:26.74 and my family and what we represent 00:08:26.77\00:08:28.90 and believe in and the professional experience 00:08:28.94\00:08:32.07 of working with Child Impact. 00:08:32.11\00:08:33.48 So that alignment is very exciting to be able 00:08:33.51\00:08:36.48 to spend time doing ministry in a way that makes 00:08:36.51\00:08:41.42 a difference for children. 00:08:41.45\00:08:43.59 I'm excited about that. 00:08:43.62\00:08:45.32 And Operation Child Rescue is going to be a key part 00:08:45.35\00:08:49.46 of our growth moving forward. 00:08:49.49\00:08:52.66 Just tell us about what do you think of Operation Child Rescue 00:08:52.69\00:08:56.46 and where it'll go? 00:08:56.50\00:08:57.83 Well, it's very interesting, because as I took on this role, 00:08:57.87\00:09:01.60 people would be asking me, 00:09:01.64\00:09:02.97 well, what does Child Impact do? 00:09:03.00\00:09:04.34 And I would talk about sponsorship and the schools 00:09:04.37\00:09:07.91 and different countries. 00:09:07.94\00:09:09.78 But as soon as I mentioned, human trafficking, 00:09:09.81\00:09:12.05 that Child Impact is involved in helping 00:09:12.08\00:09:14.38 to stop these injustice, 00:09:14.42\00:09:16.92 this blight on our planet of human trafficking. 00:09:16.95\00:09:20.59 The level of interest in that is extremely high. 00:09:20.62\00:09:23.39 And I find even young adults, college students, 00:09:23.46\00:09:27.46 this is something that they want to make 00:09:27.50\00:09:29.36 a difference with this particular area. 00:09:29.40\00:09:31.77 And so the fact that Child Impact 00:09:31.80\00:09:33.27 is involved in human trafficking in various ways, 00:09:33.34\00:09:36.64 whether it be slave labor or abandoned babies 00:09:36.71\00:09:39.04 or vulnerable children, due to being COVID orphans 00:09:39.07\00:09:41.78 or even more specifically, sex trafficking. 00:09:41.81\00:09:45.58 The fact that we're involved in those areas, 00:09:45.61\00:09:48.18 I think, really is a chance 00:09:48.22\00:09:51.39 to raise public awareness to this need 00:09:51.42\00:09:55.96 and to begin to see it make a difference for these kids 00:09:55.99\00:09:59.03 that really had been imprisoned against their will, 00:09:59.06\00:10:02.26 and to bring them freedom. 00:10:02.30\00:10:03.73 I mean, what a biblical responsibility 00:10:03.77\00:10:06.30 we have to look out for this kind of children. 00:10:06.33\00:10:10.17 That's right. 00:10:10.21\00:10:11.64 Well, the board are very excited, 00:10:11.67\00:10:13.78 the staff are very excited, 00:10:13.84\00:10:15.34 the field are very excited 00:10:15.38\00:10:16.91 that Tom has come on board. 00:10:16.95\00:10:18.88 And it will allow me to focus on a big need 00:10:18.91\00:10:22.32 of the challenges we face in the field. 00:10:22.35\00:10:25.22 And it will also give you, 00:10:25.25\00:10:27.22 the supporters' confidence that we're adding resources 00:10:27.26\00:10:31.09 and that we're going to continue to grow. 00:10:31.13\00:10:33.96 We live in difficult times 00:10:34.00\00:10:35.53 and we just ask for your prayers, 00:10:35.56\00:10:38.00 as we face new challenges, 00:10:38.03\00:10:40.37 new leadership and especially for the field 00:10:40.40\00:10:43.54 and where we operate. 00:10:43.57\00:10:45.14 Jim, I want to say a special thank you to you 00:10:45.17\00:10:47.74 for your leadership with Child Impact. 00:10:47.78\00:10:51.11 I've come to an organization to be a part of it 00:10:51.15\00:10:53.48 that is well run, ministry focused, 00:10:53.55\00:10:57.02 putting resources into the field 00:10:57.05\00:10:58.92 where it matters most. 00:10:58.95\00:11:00.59 I'm so excited for the various projects that Child Impact 00:11:00.66\00:11:04.23 is involved in helping blind Impact International. 00:12:16.23\00:12:19.70 Every Christmas we feature our very important major appeal, 00:12:19.73\00:12:23.37 which we call impact gifts. 00:12:23.41\00:12:26.01 This year, we are focusing on three significant opportunities 00:12:26.04\00:12:30.21 to make a difference. 00:12:30.25\00:12:32.11 The challenge that COVID has left us within 00:12:32.15\00:12:34.45 the third world countries where Child Impact operates 00:12:34.48\00:12:37.25 continues to pose many difficulties. 00:12:37.29\00:12:40.46 Their tremendous needs are compounded by shortages 00:12:40.52\00:12:43.49 and cost increases. 00:12:43.53\00:12:45.53 The most tragic of all is human loss due to the pandemic. 00:12:45.56\00:12:49.93 It feels overwhelming 00:12:50.00\00:12:51.47 and almost insurmountable at times. 00:12:51.50\00:12:54.30 I'm very grateful for the Lord's blessing 00:12:54.34\00:12:56.17 and the generosity of Child Impact's supporters 00:12:56.20\00:12:59.01 and I'm proud of the work that this has allowed us to do. 00:12:59.04\00:13:02.34 Impact gifts is our most important appeal for the year 00:13:02.38\00:13:05.85 and now has an extra sense of urgency. 00:13:05.88\00:13:09.42 During this Christmas season, we would like to invite you 00:13:09.45\00:13:11.95 to partner with us in the following three ways. 00:13:11.99\00:13:15.09 First is The Where Needed Most Fund. 00:13:15.12\00:13:17.86 This not only supports our operation, 00:13:17.89\00:13:20.33 but also allows us to support urgent requests we receive. 00:13:20.40\00:13:24.03 Unexpected challenges arise 00:13:24.07\00:13:25.73 and we want to be prepared for this. 00:13:25.77\00:13:28.14 Where Needed Most is the key fund 00:13:28.17\00:13:30.27 to running our organization and helping others. 00:13:30.31\00:13:33.64 The next fund is the Blind, Deaf and Orphan Fund, 00:13:33.68\00:13:36.54 which is a key program 00:13:36.58\00:13:37.91 to help serve the special needs children 00:13:37.95\00:13:40.38 who we support. 00:13:40.42\00:13:41.75 These precious children 00:13:41.78\00:13:43.28 with special needs are a significant focus 00:13:43.35\00:13:45.99 of our ministry at Child Impact. 00:13:46.02\00:13:48.36 Our third appeal is Operation Child Rescue 00:13:48.39\00:13:51.19 which is doing such an amazing work in rescuing, 00:13:51.23\00:13:54.56 rehabilitating and
