00:08:44.29\00:08:46.96 We had a hard place in the hospital 00:08:46.99\00:08:48.32 finding a place 00:08:48.36\00:08:49.69 where we wouldn't be totally obtrusive. 00:08:49.72\00:08:51.56 That's right. 00:08:51.59\00:08:52.93 We're in the area 00:08:52.96\00:08:54.30 where all the instruments are autoclaved. 00:08:54.33\00:08:56.26 And some instruments are stored as you can see here. 00:08:56.30\00:08:59.57 And we have tabletop autoclaves that we use for ophthalmology 00:08:59.60\00:09:04.44 because our instruments are small. 00:09:04.47\00:09:06.17 So we have two different sizes, 00:09:06.21\00:09:09.21 kind of a medium and a large 00:09:09.24\00:09:10.61 that have larger cassettes 00:09:10.65\00:09:13.01 that where the cooking of the instruments occurs. 00:09:13.05\00:09:15.98 And as we're talking here, 00:09:16.02\00:09:17.45 you'll hear occasionally a little err sound. 00:09:17.49\00:09:19.19 Yeah, what is that sound for our viewers? 00:09:19.22\00:09:20.79 It's going to drive them crazy, probably, 00:09:20.82\00:09:22.16 but we'll focus on you. 00:09:22.19\00:09:23.53 Right, but that's a sound 00:09:23.56\00:09:24.96 that makes us having to do with. 00:09:24.99\00:09:27.00 Just like in a pressure cooker, 00:09:27.03\00:09:28.56 it's maintaining a certain pressure 00:09:28.60\00:09:30.43 as the instruments are being cooked. 00:09:30.47\00:09:32.83 And then once the cycle is done, 00:09:32.87\00:09:35.70 then it starts venting off gas, 00:09:35.74\00:09:37.84 which is another interesting sound, 00:09:37.87\00:09:39.21 you may hear as we go along. 00:09:39.24\00:09:40.58 Okay. 00:09:40.61\00:09:41.94 Can I assume that 00:09:41.98\00:09:43.31 your team brought all of these instruments? 00:09:43.35\00:09:45.28 No, these are instruments 00:09:45.31\00:09:46.65 that the hospital pass 00:09:46.68\00:09:48.25 and they are generally much larger, 00:09:48.28\00:09:51.45 you know, for all different types of cases 00:09:51.49\00:09:53.39 that they might do. 00:09:53.42\00:09:54.76 There's general surgeons here 00:09:54.79\00:09:56.89 and we've already witnessed them 00:09:56.93\00:09:59.56 doing some amputations. 00:09:59.59\00:10:00.93 We've also witnessed a C section birth, 00:10:00.96\00:10:05.67 you know, not, well, 00:10:05.70\00:10:07.04 I mean, through the window, 00:10:07.07\00:10:08.94 we didn't assist with it, but... 00:10:08.97\00:10:10.51 So everything... 00:10:10.54\00:10:11.87 Normal cases going on here. 00:10:11.91\00:10:13.24 Everything you bring 00:10:13.27\00:10:14.61 is more specialized a lot smaller typically. 00:10:14.64\00:10:16.98 That's right. 00:10:17.01\00:10:18.35 We have instruments 00:10:18.38\00:10:20.35 that are generally small enough 00:10:20.38\00:10:22.65 that it's hard to tell what they are 00:10:22.68\00:10:24.52 without putting them under the microscope. 00:10:24.55\00:10:26.22 Okay. 00:10:26.25\00:10:27.59 And so an entire tray would be about, 00:10:27.62\00:10:30.63 you know, a little bit bigger than my hand of, 00:10:30.66\00:10:33.06 say, 10 or so instruments 00:10:33.09\00:10:34.46 that we would use for a routine case. 00:10:34.50\00:10:36.33 And then we have our accessory instruments, 00:10:36.36\00:10:37.93 either in other trays or in sterile bags 00:10:37.97\00:10:40.47 that can be opened as needed. 00:10:40.50\00:10:42.50 Now, I know you've got a real heart for Canvasback. 00:10:42.54\00:10:45.24 You've been a driving force, 00:10:45.27\00:10:46.78 recruiting and bringing people together 00:10:46.81\00:10:49.24 to participate in these teams. 00:10:49.28\00:10:50.91 Tell me a little more about that? 00:10:50.95\00:10:52.58 Well, I first went, I believe is in 2002, 00:10:52.61\00:10:55.08 on an ophthalmology trip, 00:10:55.12\00:10:56.48 and I enjoyed it enough that I went a few more times. 00:10:56.52\00:11:00.42 And it turned out that until this trip, 00:11:00.46\00:11:02.92 they were all in one of the locations 00:11:02.96\00:11:05.39 that we go to in the Marshall Islands. 00:11:05.43\00:11:07.13 But I believe this is my fifth or sixth trip that I've made, 00:11:07.16\00:11:12.30 and it evolved into me, you know, 00:11:12.33\00:11:15.47 directing it as medically 00:11:15.50\00:11:16.84 and getting the doctors together 00:11:16.87\00:11:18.21 and the team members, which is really a lot of fun. 00:11:18.24\00:11:20.68 Because when you tell them, we're going to go help people, 00:11:20.71\00:11:23.88 and we're going to do this kind of work, 00:11:23.91\00:11:25.95 and we're going to go, 00:11:25.98\00:11:27.32 you know, to an interesting place, 00:11:27.35\00:11:28.82 then they're usually saying, 00:11:28.85\00:11:30.42 "Oh, I'd really like to go, let me check my calendar." 00:11:30.45\00:11:33.19 And sometimes there's problems with that. 00:11:33.22\00:11:35.59 But I don't usually have to ask too many people 00:11:35.62\00:11:38.49 before we get team together. 00:11:38.53\00:11:40.30 For this particular team, 00:11:40.33\00:11:41.66 how long did it actually take you to recruit the team? 00:11:41.70\00:11:44.93 I'd say it came together over maybe a two month period, 00:11:44.97\00:11:47.34 something like that. 00:11:47.37\00:11:48.70 That is pretty rapidly, really. 00:11:48.74\00:11:50.07 Yes. 00:11:50.11\00:11:51.44 Yeah, some, every once in a while, 00:11:51.47\00:11:52.81 there's a key position where I have to ask more people 00:11:52.84\00:11:54.18 to make it work out. 00:11:54.21\00:11:55.54 Okay. 00:11:55.58\00:11:56.91 Now, tell us what type of people are needed 00:11:56.95\00:11:58.48 on these kinds of teams? 00:11:58.51\00:12:00.48 Well, certainly for an ophthalmology team, 00:12:00.52\00:12:02.48 we need people with special skills. 00:12:02.52\00:12:04.69 So besides surgeons, we need assistance, 00:12:04.72\00:12:08.99 who are used to doing that kind of work 00:12:09.02\00:12:11.89 so that we can be efficient. 00:12:11.93\00:12:13.36 And, so it's a special skill set. 00:12:13.40\00:12:16.50 We have a pool of people who say, I really like to help, 00:12:16.53\00:12:21.64 but I've never worked with eyes before. 00:12:21.67\00:12:23.64 And those people can come and can be of help, 00:12:23.67\00:12:25.67 and we can train them in. 00:12:25.71\00:12:27.18 But we can't go only on those kind of people, 00:12:27.21\00:12:29.81 we need people, 00:12:29.84\00:12:31.68 as I said, had the special skill set. 00:12:31.71\00:12:33.82 And so I'm specifically looking for those people. 00:12:33.85\00:12:36.05 Okay. 00:12:36.08\00:12:37.42 Tell me a little bit more 00:12:37.45\00:12:38.79 why you have such a heart for Canvasback? 00:12:38.82\00:12:40.96 Well, I just, I enjoy helping people. 00:12:40.99\00:12:44.36 That's why I became a doctor in the first place. 00:12:44.39\00:12:46.93 And then there's a further enjoyment 00:12:46.96\00:12:49.63 from doing it for as a volunteer to help people 00:12:49.66\00:12:55.40 who especially may not have access to the care. 00:12:55.44\00:12:59.94 Nobody gets paid for this? 00:12:59.97\00:13:01.38 That's right. It's a volunteer thing. 00:13:01.41\00:13:03.21 So that's a special joy. 00:13:03.24\00:13:04.98 So when you, when I go on a vacation, 00:13:05.01\00:13:07.55 that's enjoyable, 00:13:07.58\00:13:08.92 but it's even more enjoyable to spend vacation time 00:13:08.95\00:13:10.95 doing something that's helping people. 00:13:10.99\00:13:13.39 And we usually have a day 00:13:13.42\00:13:15.39 or so where we can enjoy the area 00:13:15.42\00:13:17.99 we're in doing excursion or something that's fun, too. 00:13:18.03\00:13:21.40 But the biggest fun 00:13:21.43\00:13:22.86 is seeing working with the people, 00:13:22.90\00:13:25.70 seeing the smiles on their faces 00:13:25.73\00:13:27.77 and knowing that we've made an impact in their lives. 00:13:27.80\00:13:32.01 We saw some... 00:13:32.04\00:13:33.38 We were watching some post-op, removing the bandages, 00:13:33.41\00:13:36.38 these people who couldn't see apparently, 00:13:36.41\00:13:38.15 hardly the hand in front of the face 00:13:38.18\00:13:39.55 all of a sudden can now see it. 00:13:39.58\00:13:41.82 That's got to be rewarding. 00:13:41.85\00:13:43.45 Right, and we don't always get to see that here 00:13:43.49\00:13:46.19 but when we operate just before the weekend, 00:13:46.22\00:13:49.22 then we get to go in on the weekend 00:13:49.26\00:13:50.59 and see some of that, 00:13:50.63\00:13:51.96 which I was able to do a couple days ago. 00:13:51.99\00:13:54.13 And that's probably 00:13:54.16\00:13:55.83 the most fun of the trip for me. 00:13:55.86\00:13:57.20 Get to see the fruits of your labor. 00:13:57.23\00:13:58.57 Right, because the doctors are in the clinic all the time. 00:13:58.60\00:14:00.64 They see it pretty much every day. 00:14:00.67\00:14:02.60 And that's that is probably 00:14:02.64\00:14:04.67 one of the more really fun parts 00:14:04.71\00:14:06.94 to see those smiles. 00:14:06.98\00:14:08.44 And when I get to see them 00:14:08.48\00:14:10.15 on that one day and then sometimes, 00:14:10.18\00:14:12.58 as I, as we come in and do their second eye, 00:14:12.61\00:14:16.38 it's often possible to do on the trip 00:14:16.42\00:14:18.05 that we get to see them. 00:14:18.09\00:14:19.42 Why do you do one eye at a time? 00:14:19.45\00:14:21.09 Oh, well, there are some risks with surgery 00:14:21.12\00:14:24.46 and one risk is that 00:14:24.49\00:14:25.83 they can have an infection in their eye 00:14:25.86\00:14:27.43 which can be devastating. 00:14:27.46\00:14:29.53 Usually, if we catch it, we can reverse it. 00:14:29.56\00:14:31.93 But it could be devastating 00:14:31.97\00:14:33.30 and even lead to loss of the eye 00:14:33.34\00:14:34.84 or loss of vision or the loss of the eye itself. 00:14:34.87\00:14:37.37 And so, this is a reason 00:14:37.41\00:14:39.61 probably not to do both eyes at once. 00:14:39.64\00:14:41.58 Although to be honest, 00:14:41.61\00:14:42.94 it is increasing in its frequency 00:14:42.98\00:14:44.61 around the world and how it's being done. 00:14:44.65\00:14:47.12 But I would say probably 00:14:47.15\00:14:49.05 not the best for a mission situation. 00:14:49.08\00:14:53.29 And so that's why we steer clear of it. 00:14:53.32\00:14:56.06 Another thing you can think of is that 00:14:56.09\00:14:57.43 we're putting an implant lens in, 00:14:57.46\00:14:59.16 it's based on a calculation. 00:14:59.19\00:15:00.83 And that calculation could be off 00:15:00.86\00:15:02.33 to the left or to the right 00:15:02.36\00:15:03.80 that is nearsighted or farsighted. 00:15:03.83\00:15:06.23 And if you do the second eye at different time, 00:15:06.27\00:15:09.00 then you can change the lens implant for that eye 00:15:09.04\00:15:11.87 to try to make the outcome be even more precise, possible. 00:15:11.91\00:15:14.94 Okay. 00:15:14.98\00:15:17.95 Riburty was born blind. 00:15:17.98\00:15:19.68 That's right. 00:15:19.71\00:15:21.05 He couldn't see it all. 00:15:21.08\00:15:22.42 The entire family were his caregivers. 00:15:22.45\00:15:25.42 Their lives were completely tied 00:15:25.45\00:15:27.29 to the needs of their little son. 00:15:27.32\00:15:29.99 The doctors at the hospital lacked the experience 00:15:30.03\00:15:33.50 to provide him with surgical help. 00:15:33.53\00:15:36.33 This situation continued for six long years. 00:15:36.36\00:15:40.50 Making less than $100 per month, 00:15:40.54\00:15:43.27 there is no way to ever afford the surgery. 00:15:43.30\00:15:46.71 Even if they could fly off island, 00:15:46.74\00:15:49.91 the surgery in another country could be $12,000. 00:15:49.94\00:15:54.38 It looked like all hope was gone. 00:15:54.42\00:15:56.99 Enter the Canvasback Super Team. 00:15:57.02\00:15:59.65 Riburty was examined and the surgery was performed. 00:15:59.69\00:16:03.19 The day the bandages came off, 00:16:03.22\00:16:05.43 he saw his parents and siblings 00:16:05.46\00:16:07.16 for the very first time. 00:16:07.20\00:16:09.26 He and the family were set free. 00:16:09.30\00:16:12.30 There are more children like Riburty 00:16:12.33\00:16:14.27 who are in desperate need. 00:16:14.30\00:16:16.10 You can change many lives. 00:16:16.14\00:16:18.24 Please give sight to the blind. 00:16:18.27\00:16:20.21 Log on to canvasback.org today 00:16:20.24\00:16:23.11 to give your gift of love. 00:16:23.14\00:16:25.71 Dr. Chen, 00:16:25.75\00:16:27.08 I heard him say this morning in our meeting, 00:16:27.12\00:16:29.35 I believe it was what, 00:16:29.38\00:16:30.72 the greatest cause of blindness is glaucoma. 00:16:30.75\00:16:35.59 Well, he said cataracts. 00:16:35.62\00:16:36.96 Cataracts, excuse me, yeah, cataract, yeah. 00:16:36.99\00:16:38.33 Yeah. 00:16:38.36\00:16:39.69 There's estimated to be about 00:16:39.73\00:16:41.06 20 to 30 million people worldwide, 00:16:41.10\00:16:42.70 who are blind in both eyes with cataracts. 00:16:42.73\00:16:46.57 And this is an estimated number, 00:16:46.60\00:16:47.94 it's hard to really pin it down. 00:16:47.97\00:16:50.17 Many of them are in areas of the world 00:16:50.21\00:16:52.61 you would expect that are the poorest 00:16:52.64\00:16:54.24 and have the least access to health care. 00:16:54.28\00:16:57.68 I have a colleague 00:16:57.71\00:16:59.05 who's been to Ethiopia 00:16:59.08\00:17:00.42 where there's probably 00:17:00.45\00:17:01.78 over a million of those patients 00:17:01.82\00:17:03.15 are in that country where there are approximately, 00:17:03.18\00:17:05.99 I think, four ophthalmologists per million residents 00:17:06.02\00:17:10.19 or maybe somewhere around there. 00:17:10.23\00:17:12.36 And some of the areas are quite rural. 00:17:12.39\00:17:14.70 And so, the more remote places, 00:17:14.73\00:17:18.13 the more likely are the patients 00:17:18.17\00:17:20.50 that are underserved by health resources like that. 00:17:20.54\00:17:24.81 And Canvasback is always in need of volunteers. 00:17:24.84\00:17:27.01 Many volunteers are going all the time, 00:17:27.04\00:17:30.08 not just eye but orthopedic and gynecology 00:17:30.11\00:17:35.45 and ear nose and throat specialist 00:17:35.48\00:17:37.12 and the list kind of goes on. 00:17:37.15\00:17:39.49 What would you say to folks, 00:17:39.52\00:17:41.22 why they're needed 00:17:41.26\00:17:42.59 it all their expertise 00:17:42.62\00:17:43.96 or non-expertise assistants, whatever? 00:17:43.99\00:17:46.16 Why are they needed? 00:17:46.19\00:17:47.63 Well, they're needed 00:17:47.66\00:17:49.06 because many hands make light work. 00:17:49.10\00:17:55.07 That's what I would say. 00:17:55.10\00:17:56.44 So we need people to come, 00:17:56.47\00:18:00.44 we need their enthusiasm, either. 00:18:00.48\00:18:02.98 But we need their hands, you know, 00:18:03.01\00:18:05.41 to do the work that needs to be done. 00:18:05.45\00:18:07.62 And at every phase of the trip, 00:18:07.65\00:18:12.65 there's surprised to be dealt with, 00:18:12.69\00:18:14.59 there's patients to be dealt with. 00:18:14.62\00:18:17.09 Sometimes when children of the workers come along, 00:18:17.13\00:18:20.86 we use them as runners to communicate back and forth, 00:18:20.90\00:18:23.93 pass notes or walk patients back 00:18:23.97\00:18:26.87 and forth between the clinic and the operating room here. 00:18:26.90\00:18:29.67 So we try to get everybody involved. 00:18:29.70\00:18:32.57 And if when we have a smaller trip 00:18:32.61\00:18:35.68 and fewer people, 00:18:35.71\00:18:37.21 then there's so many, 00:18:37.25\00:18:40.92 there's so much more exhausting these can. 00:18:40.95\00:18:43.25 We try to do everything yourself, 00:18:43.28\00:18:45.09 and you can't take care of too many patients. 00:18:45.12\00:18:48.62 Now, I've heard this before as well. 00:18:48.66\00:18:50.73 Why don't you just stay in the United States 00:18:50.76\00:18:52.59 because there's lots of need right there? 00:18:52.63\00:18:54.63 Why travel halfway across the world? 00:18:54.66\00:18:57.17 Well, there... 00:18:57.20\00:19:00.04 I would not deny that there are needs in the United States, 00:19:00.07\00:19:03.00 I would just say that seems like there are greater needs 00:19:03.04\00:19:05.87 in other countries. 00:19:05.91\00:19:07.58 And there are patients in the United States 00:19:07.61\00:19:13.05 who do not have insurance. 00:19:13.08\00:19:15.08 And I have been involved personally 00:19:15.12\00:19:17.29 in helping some of those patients 00:19:17.32\00:19:19.02 to get cataract surgery that they need. 00:19:19.05\00:19:21.22 And it's that's very rewarding also, 00:19:21.26\00:19:23.76 believe me, 00:19:23.79\00:19:25.13 and we get some wonderful thank you notes from patients 00:19:25.16\00:19:27.06 who were able to help them get care, 00:19:27.10\00:19:30.17 otherwise they couldn't have gotten. 00:19:30.20\00:19:31.77 So we have that every day mission 00:19:31.80\00:19:34.14 that we do back home. 00:19:34.17\00:19:36.37 But I would say that 00:19:36.40\00:19:37.74 the absolute numbers 00:19:37.77\00:19:39.11 of those patients are pretty low 00:19:39.14\00:19:40.48 compared to some other places in the world. 00:19:40.51\00:19:43.45 Okay. 00:19:43.48\00:19:45.98 The financial numbers for Canvasback, 00:19:46.01\00:19:50.32 it costs money to bring a team here, 00:19:50.35\00:19:53.02 but the amount of money 00:19:53.05\00:19:54.39 that comes out of it as far as the, 00:19:54.42\00:19:56.73 well, basically the amount money that's, 00:19:56.76\00:20:00.60 what's the word I'm looking for? 00:20:00.63\00:20:02.76 It's about a million dollars worth of procedures 00:20:02.80\00:20:05.50 and things that are done totally free for the people. 00:20:05.53\00:20:09.40 Why would you say 00:20:09.44\00:20:10.77 and I know you're a supporter 00:20:10.81\00:20:12.84 of the ministry financially also, 00:20:12.87\00:20:14.51 why would you say that people should support Canvasback? 00:20:14.54\00:20:18.11 Well, my answer would be that the, 00:20:18.15\00:20:23.18 when you're, 00:20:23.22\00:20:24.55 the money that you give 00:20:24.59\00:20:25.92 has a kind of a tangible result. 00:20:25.95\00:20:28.42 And that's something a lot of, when I'm a donor, 00:20:28.46\00:20:31.06 I love to see that, you know, you get to see, you know, 00:20:31.09\00:20:34.00 that you're helping people see better, 00:20:34.03\00:20:36.30 or get care that they otherwise couldn't get. 00:20:36.33\00:20:39.63 And so that's, it's very rewarding. 00:20:39.67\00:20:42.34 And so it's something tangible that you can see. 00:20:42.37\00:20:44.41 And I believe it's pretty efficient financially. 00:20:44.44\00:20:47.18 In other words, for an amount of money, 00:20:47.21\00:20:49.84 some organizations, 00:20:49.88\00:20:51.21 I don't know what Canvasback number is there, 00:20:51.25\00:20:52.85 they actually have a number of dollars per eye 00:20:52.88\00:20:55.28 that sees better. 00:20:55.32\00:20:56.75 And this is a calculation that can be done, 00:20:56.79\00:20:59.45 but it's something that that just goes to show 00:20:59.49\00:21:02.16 how your dollars can get a tangible result, 00:21:02.19\00:21:07.13 and help to, 00:21:07.16\00:21:09.90 help people to see kind of the love of Christ 00:21:09.93\00:21:14.17 in action you know, 00:21:14.20\00:21:15.54 and I think that's a neat thing. 00:21:15.57\00:21:17.74 As a leader in the field of health in Micronesia, 00:21:17.77\00:21:21.08 Canvasback Missions 00:21:21.11\00:21:22.71 has been helping people reverse diabetes for years. 00:21:22.74\00:21:26.61 Yes, you heard correctly, reverse diabetes. 00:21:26.65\00:21:30.59 In addition, 00:21:30.62\00:21:31.95 we are helping to reduce the incident of heart disease. 00:21:31.99\00:21:35.02 At least 34 million people in the US have diabetes. 00:21:35.06\00:21:39.16 Many have no idea they have it until it's almost too late. 00:21:39.19\00:21:43.23 Many children have diabetes. 00:21:43.26\00:21:45.50 It's time to stop it in its tracks. 00:21:45.53\00:21:48.04 What's the key? 00:21:48.07\00:21:49.40 Certain foods, 00:21:49.44\00:21:50.77 exercise and many other simple yet critical items 00:21:50.81\00:21:54.08 are combined to produce amazing results. 00:22:10.69\00:22:12.03 for yourself, friend or a loved one. 00:22:12.06\00:22:14.90 It will be life changing. 00:22:14.93\00:22:16.26 Wow, it is, it is raining out there. 00:22:26.24\00:22:29.88 I can't hardly believe the amount of rain, 00:22:29.91\00:22:31.65 hopefully it quits pretty soon. 00:22:31.68\00:22:33.18 But I really came to, 00:22:33.21\00:22:35.38 you know, check out the waterfall 00:22:35.42\00:22:36.99 to look at the area. 00:22:37.02\00:22:38.85 And as I look at all this, 00:22:38.89\00:22:40.22 I can't help but think about Jesus Christ. 00:22:40.26\00:22:42.76 Jesus said, 00:22:42.79\00:22:44.13 "You know, I am the living water." 00:22:44.16\00:22:46.33 He and the disciples arrived on a desert place. 00:22:46.36\00:22:48.43 I know right now it's a little hard 00:22:48.46\00:22:50.00 to think about a desert place 00:22:50.03\00:22:51.93 with all of this water but there He was, 00:22:51.97\00:22:54.60 they put in a hard day 00:22:54.64\00:22:56.74 worth of labor already by lunchtime. 00:22:56.77\00:22:59.57 Disciples went someplace to find lunch. 00:22:59.61\00:23:02.24 Jesus lingered around this town of Samaria. 00:23:02.28\00:23:05.51 Now, the Jews, 00:23:05.55\00:23:07.42 they didn't really care for the Samaritans. 00:23:07.45\00:23:09.42 They didn't talk, they didn't communicate. 00:23:09.45\00:23:11.59 But Jesus found Himself at a well, 00:23:11.62\00:23:14.22 this woman came out of the village, 00:23:14.26\00:23:15.62 she stopped, 00:23:15.66\00:23:16.99 she dropped her bucket into the well. 00:23:17.03\00:23:18.93 And Jesus said, "Would you give me a drink?" 00:23:18.96\00:23:21.66 Well, this was extremely strange 00:23:21.70\00:23:23.40 because no Jew would ever talk to a Samaritan 00:23:23.43\00:23:27.40 and let alone a woman. 00:23:27.44\00:23:28.77 She said, "Sir, you're asking me for a drink?" 00:23:28.80\00:23:32.77 And Jesus then said to her, 00:23:32.81\00:23:34.24 "You know, if you really knew who I was, 00:23:34.28\00:23:37.21 I would offer you living water." 00:23:37.25\00:23:40.55 And then she said, in this communication, 00:23:40.58\00:23:43.49 the Holy Spirit's working in her heart, in her life. 00:23:43.52\00:23:45.59 And she said, "Sir, yes, I would like that water. 00:23:45.62\00:23:49.12 I would really like that water." 00:23:49.16\00:23:51.46 And, of course, as the story continues, 00:23:51.49\00:23:53.86 this lady had had many husbands, many. 00:23:53.90\00:23:56.53 She was pretty much a lady of the town as it were. 00:23:56.56\00:24:00.44 Her entire life was immediately changed. 00:24:00.47\00:24:02.64 And that's what happens 00:24:02.67\00:24:04.01 when that living water flows into you. 00:24:04.04\00:24:07.08 There's a text, you know, I carry my Bible with me a lot. 00:24:07.11\00:24:10.08 I wanted to share this with you. 00:24:10.11\00:24:12.21 John Chapter 7, beginning in verse 37. 00:24:12.25\00:24:16.05 "Jesus was there at the temple now 00:24:16.08\00:24:18.22 and they're having their ceremonies, 00:24:18.25\00:24:19.59 and Jesus stood and He cried, saying, 00:24:19.62\00:24:21.69 'If any man or any woman, any person, 00:24:21.72\00:24:25.46 first, let him come to Me and drink." 00:24:25.49\00:24:29.23 Jesus was offering Himself as the living water, 00:24:29.26\00:24:32.03 the one who would change each and every person. 00:24:32.07\00:24:35.90 "He that believes in Me," 00:24:35.94\00:24:37.27 He says in verse 38, 00:24:37.31\00:24:39.37 as the scripture said, 00:24:39.41\00:24:41.21 "out of his belly show flow rivers of living water." 00:24:41.24\00:24:45.58 What does that mean, living water? 00:24:45.61\00:24:47.62 It means when we accept Jesus Christ in our lives, 00:24:47.65\00:24:51.02 God flows out of our lives. 00:24:51.05\00:24:53.46 I was at the Dead Sea one time and there at that Dead Sea, 00:24:53.49\00:24:56.86 everything's dead 00:24:56.89\00:24:58.23 because everything flows in but nothing flows out. 00:24:58.26\00:25:01.00 You see we've got to have, when Jesus comes in our lives, 00:25:01.03\00:25:04.33 we've got to have that water flow out too, 00:25:04.37\00:25:06.40 we've got to share with others, we've got to go and share. 00:25:06.43\00:25:09.80 Yeah, that's what a lot of the team 00:25:09.84\00:25:11.47 is doing here is sharing. 00:25:11.51\00:25:13.68 One more text I want to close with. 00:25:13.71\00:25:16.01 And this particular thought 00:25:16.04\00:25:17.38 is found in Revelation in Chapter 22. 00:25:17.41\00:25:21.32 "And the Spirit says, 00:25:21.35\00:25:22.72 'Come, let him that is first or thirsty, 00:25:22.75\00:25:26.42 come. 00:25:26.45\00:25:27.79 And whosoever will let him take of the water of life freely." 00:25:27.82\00:25:32.99 There is no price. 00:25:33.03\00:25:34.60 There is no charge for this. 00:25:34.63\00:25:37.03 It's simply opening your heart. 00:25:37.07\00:25:38.77 It's simply surrendering himself. 00:25:38.80\00:25:41.44 One of my favorite authors said, 00:25:41.47\00:25:43.00 "We don't even know how to pray, 00:25:43.04\00:25:44.67 but we can pray this prayer. 00:25:44.71\00:25:46.07 Please, Lord, take my life, take my heart, 00:25:46.11\00:25:49.94 I can't give it." 00:25:49.98\00:25:51.85 But what it's doing is giving God permission 00:25:51.88\00:25:54.82 to begin taking control of our lives 00:25:54.85\00:25:57.35 that we might begin walking with Him. 00:25:57.39\00:26:00.02 And, my friends, when we walk with Him, 00:26:00.06\00:26:02.26 we will stand with Him 00:26:02.29\00:26:03.73 for eternity on that crystal sea 00:26:03.76\00:26:05.66 that had beautiful river. 00:26:05.69\00:26:08.20 You know, the Bible also records 00:26:08.23\00:26:10.03 that there's a river of life 00:26:10.07\00:26:11.40 that flows out of the throne of God. 00:26:11.43\00:26:14.07 I want to be there. 00:26:14.10\00:26:15.44 I'd like to invite you too to be there with me. 00:26:15.47\00:26:18.34 Partake of that beautiful river flowing from Jesus Christ. 00:26:18.37\00:26:21.71 Our Canvasback volunteers are bringing hope 00:26:27.28\00:26:30.65 to those who have no hope. 00:26:30.69\00:26:32.79 They are providing healing to those who are in need. 00:26:32.82\00:26:36.52 Every volunteer takes time from their busy schedules 00:26:36.56\00:26:39.56 to help others for no pay at all. 00:26:39.59\00:26:42.50 That's right. 00:26:42.53\00:26:43.87 Our help is virtually free of charge. 00:26:43.90\00:26:46.57 Surgeries that could cost thousands of dollars 00:26:46.60\00:26:49.77 are performed for no pay. 00:26:49.80\00:26:51.77 We do it because we love to see the smile on a person 00:26:51.81\00:26:55.88 who was once blind and can now see. 00:26:55.91\00:26:59.45 As the Bible says, "The blind see, the lame walk, 00:26:59.48\00:27:04.09 the deaf hear." 00:27:04.12\00:27:05.72 I have the wonderful opportunity 00:27:05.75\00:27:07.72 to see God's miracles of healing on a regular basis. 00:27:07.76\00:27:11.69 If you would like to join us 00:27:11.73\00:27:13.29 in bringing healing to those less fortunate, 00:27:13.33\00:27:16.16
