But my guess is probably. 00:06:03.09\00:06:06.06 See, most religions that believe in some other god, 00:06:06.09\00:06:09.83 little g god, tend to have sacrifices. 00:06:09.86\00:06:13.10 But these people came 00:06:13.13\00:06:14.47 whoever they were, they came here, 00:06:14.50\00:06:15.84 they took over the whole island, 00:06:15.87\00:06:17.94 they quelled every other rebellion, 00:06:17.97\00:06:20.48 every other war, and controlled everything. 00:06:20.51\00:06:23.48 Now it's been estimated 00:06:23.51\00:06:24.85 that it may have taken 1, 000 people a day 00:06:24.88\00:06:27.88 to construct this island for 300 years, 00:06:27.92\00:06:31.29 300 years. 00:06:31.32\00:06:33.59 Where did all that food come from? 00:06:33.62\00:06:35.49 Because it's been estimated, 00:06:35.52\00:06:37.29 again, that about 40, 000 people 00:06:37.33\00:06:39.19 is what would have been in this area, 00:06:39.23\00:06:41.86 40, 000 people will eat all the food 00:06:41.90\00:06:44.40 in a matter of a few months. 00:06:44.43\00:06:45.83 And then what happens? 00:06:45.87\00:06:47.20 Today, a ship doesn't show up in a month, 00:06:47.24\00:06:50.61 people don't eat. 00:06:50.64\00:06:52.71 How did all this happen? 00:06:52.74\00:06:54.94 Well, we really don't know, do we? 00:06:54.98\00:06:56.61 It is definitely hot in here. 00:07:08.12\00:07:09.79 But where is in here, 00:07:09.82\00:07:11.53 I'm actually in a burial chamber, 00:07:11.56\00:07:13.03 the burial chamber of the big chief of Nan Madol. 00:07:13.06\00:07:17.40 There are still chiefs on the island today, 00:07:17.43\00:07:19.73 things are quite different. 00:07:19.77\00:07:21.17 Although if you die, 00:07:21.20\00:07:23.07 you have to go to the chief 00:07:23.10\00:07:24.44 and get permission 00:07:24.47\00:07:25.81 for the family to bury that person 00:07:25.84\00:07:27.34 and the actual ceremony can take 10 days. 00:07:27.38\00:07:30.95 Burial is a thing that... 00:07:30.98\00:07:32.78 Well, matter of fact, as we grow older, 00:07:32.81\00:07:35.42 you know, we are born and we're going to die. 00:07:35.45\00:07:37.59 That's just one of the things that happen. 00:07:37.62\00:07:39.35 That wasn't the way it was always meant to be. 00:07:39.39\00:07:41.32 You see, Jesus promised us eternal life. 00:07:41.36\00:07:43.49 We were created not for time, but we're created for eternity. 00:07:43.53\00:07:47.86 And that's what's exciting. 00:07:47.90\00:07:49.43 We don't have to have this life be it. 00:07:49.46\00:07:52.73 We've got eternity. 00:07:52.77\00:07:54.10 The island of Pohnpei, it's absolutely beautiful, 00:08:04.28\00:08:07.08 the people are wonderful. 00:08:07.12\00:08:08.45 There's a lot more story to come, so stay tuned. 00:08:08.48\00:08:10.59 According to the World Health Organization, 00:08:12.85\00:08:15.29 depression is the leading cause of worldwide disability 00:08:15.32\00:08:19.29 that happens to a lot of people. 00:08:19.33\00:08:21.46 Are you depressed? That's right. 00:10:40.80\00:10:42.84 We put an X on the forehead, 00:10:42.87\00:10:44.64 we ask the patient first to confirm. 00:10:44.67\00:10:47.04 We check the consent form 00:10:47.08\00:10:48.64 against what the patient states. 00:10:48.68\00:10:50.61 We place this X and then we put a name tag on that side 00:10:50.65\00:10:53.88 and all those things help us to be 100% confident 00:10:53.92\00:10:58.79 that we're working on the correct eye. 00:10:58.82\00:11:01.69 And, Sheila, I guess for the audience, 00:11:03.32\00:11:04.96 what is your expertise? 00:11:04.99\00:11:06.59 I am a nurse anesthetist 00:11:06.63\00:11:08.43 and I have been working in ophthalmology. 00:11:08.46\00:11:10.97 I've been a nurse anesthetist for well, 00:11:11.00\00:11:14.84 over 25 years 00:11:14.87\00:11:16.30 and I've been in ophthalmology 00:11:16.34\00:11:18.17 since prior to going to anesthesia school. 00:11:18.21\00:11:20.21 So for about 35 years I've been involved in eyes. 00:11:20.24\00:11:23.48 Okay. 00:11:23.51\00:11:24.85 Most people would think 00:11:24.88\00:11:26.35 anesthesiology is completely out. 00:11:26.38\00:11:31.29 But you've got a whole different field 00:11:31.32\00:11:32.99 really very specialized field, it seems. 00:11:33.02\00:11:36.16 I do all types of anesthesia. 00:11:36.19\00:11:37.99 I just happen to kind of get into this niche 00:11:38.03\00:11:42.10 serendipitously by covering for a colleague 25 years ago. 00:11:42.13\00:11:47.20 He wanted to go off, 00:11:47.24\00:11:48.57 he bought a sailboat 00:11:48.60\00:11:49.94 and he was going to sail the world 00:11:49.97\00:11:51.31 and he asked if I would be interested in doing this. 00:11:51.34\00:11:54.14 And I said, "Sure. 00:11:54.18\00:11:55.51 How hard can it be?" 00:11:55.54\00:11:56.88 And I soon learned. 00:11:56.91\00:11:58.25 You soon learned how hard it is? 00:11:58.28\00:12:00.12 John, do you see the photo on the ceiling, the postcard? 00:12:00.15\00:12:04.45 Yeah, the black cat spot. 00:12:04.49\00:12:06.89 Yes. 00:12:06.92\00:12:08.26 Martha, would you be so kind as to pump the bed up, please. 00:12:08.29\00:12:13.70 So now there are eight muscles around the eye 00:12:13.73\00:12:16.13 that all converge in the back into the muscle cone. 00:12:16.16\00:12:18.93 The target of this injection is the muscle cone 00:12:18.97\00:12:21.97 so that we make the muscles numb, 00:12:22.00\00:12:23.37 the eye can't move. 00:12:23.41\00:12:24.74 And we make the eye numb so it doesn't feel anything, 00:12:24.77\00:12:27.88 the optic nerve. 00:12:27.91\00:12:29.28 John, you're going to feel me touch the lower lid 00:12:29.31\00:12:31.28 of your right eye with my finger. 00:12:31.31\00:12:33.01 So I know how long John's eye is from the front to the back 00:12:36.15\00:12:39.89 based on a measurement that was taken in the clinic 00:12:39.92\00:12:42.02 called the axial length. 00:12:42.06\00:12:44.59 That axial length helps me know how to place the needle. 00:12:44.63\00:12:48.03 We should probably tell some of the viewers 00:12:48.06\00:12:49.86 if you're squeamish, don't watch this. 00:12:49.90\00:12:52.20 Don't try it at home. 00:12:52.23\00:12:53.57 Don't try it at home. Yeah. 00:12:53.60\00:12:54.94 True. 00:12:54.97\00:12:57.24 John, I know you're in very good hands 00:12:57.27\00:12:58.74 with this lady though. 00:12:58.77\00:13:00.81 I retract the lower lid. 00:13:00.84\00:13:03.45 I place the needle 00:13:03.48\00:13:05.78 perpendicular to the plane of the face. 00:13:05.81\00:13:08.98 Around the eyeball 00:13:09.02\00:13:10.35 is what's called a periorbital fat pad. 00:13:10.39\00:13:13.36 No matter how thin you are, we all have fat on our eye. 00:13:13.39\00:13:19.06 I just let the needle float through that. 00:13:19.09\00:13:22.93 And now I begin to angle back towards the muscle cone 00:13:22.96\00:13:27.07 and the optic nerve. 00:13:27.10\00:13:28.94 We can see how his lid is starting 00:13:28.97\00:13:30.71 to go down a bit already. 00:13:30.74\00:13:32.67 That tells me I'm exactly where I need to be. 00:13:32.71\00:13:35.54 And you've done this how many times? 00:13:35.58\00:13:38.28 Over 30,000. 00:13:38.31\00:13:40.98 I started when I was 12. 00:13:41.02\00:13:42.85 Please don't think I'm old. 00:13:42.88\00:13:45.89 John, if this is uncomfortable, please tell me, I'll stop. 00:13:45.92\00:13:50.49 Am I hurting you? 00:13:52.39\00:13:54.26 No. 00:13:54.30\00:13:55.63 No? Okay. 00:13:55.66\00:13:59.93 When I come on a mission trip, 00:13:59.97\00:14:01.94 I like to learn a few basic phrases 00:14:01.97\00:14:05.11 in the native language 00:14:05.14\00:14:06.68 in the event that 00:14:06.71\00:14:08.04 people are not available to translate. 00:14:08.08\00:14:10.85 I can say basic commands. 00:14:10.88\00:14:13.25 Just open your eyes. 00:14:13.28\00:14:14.62 Are you having pain? 00:14:14.65\00:14:16.32 And, of course, I don't speak Pohnpeian, 00:14:16.35\00:14:18.89 that's an important phrase 00:14:18.92\00:14:20.26 in case they begin to speak back. 00:14:20.29\00:14:22.42 So you can see how the lid is drifting down now. 00:14:22.46\00:14:25.43 It tells me I'm in a very good spot. 00:14:28.90\00:14:31.13 Are you okay? 00:14:34.70\00:14:36.50 All right. 00:14:36.54\00:14:38.01 I'm going to put a few more drops 00:14:38.04\00:14:39.97 in your eye now 00:14:40.01\00:14:41.71 and give you a little eye massage. 00:14:41.74\00:14:45.78 This might sting a bit, Mr. John, I'm sorry. 00:14:45.81\00:14:48.75 Are you okay? 00:14:48.78\00:14:50.19 Yeah. 00:14:50.22\00:14:51.55 I think they got your best side. 00:14:51.59\00:14:54.49 I think you're a very good patient. 00:14:54.52\00:14:56.46 Yes. 00:14:56.49\00:14:57.83 You're doing very good. 00:14:57.86\00:14:59.29 So could you read the eye chart at all? 00:14:59.33\00:15:04.00 Or did you just see somebody waving their hand? 00:15:04.03\00:15:08.70 Just a waving hand. 00:15:08.74\00:15:10.41 So we measure from 2020, 2400 is that big E 00:15:10.44\00:15:14.88 then the next thing we start are "Can you count fingers?" 00:15:14.91\00:15:19.08 And then after that, if they can, 00:15:19.11\00:15:21.08 "Can you see my hand moving?" 00:15:21.12\00:15:22.65 Okay. 00:15:22.68\00:15:24.02 How many patients do you get in here 00:15:25.49\00:15:27.02 that that's pretty much it just come in. 00:15:27.06\00:15:31.56 I would say probably better than half because they don't, 00:15:31.59\00:15:34.96 you know, they don't have access to immediate care. 00:15:35.00\00:15:37.80 So a lot of them will let their cataracts 00:15:37.83\00:15:39.37 go and go and go. 00:15:39.40\00:15:41.94 By the time we see them, 00:15:41.97\00:15:43.30 many of them have just 00:15:43.34\00:15:44.67 this white hard lens in their eye 00:15:44.71\00:15:47.51 that they can't even see light through. 00:15:47.54\00:15:49.58 And I understand here in the equator 00:15:49.61\00:15:51.58 that you can actually, 00:15:51.61\00:15:53.01 more people get cataracts 00:15:53.05\00:15:54.38 because of the sun exposure and nobody wears sunglasses. 00:15:54.42\00:15:57.35 And they don't wear sunglasses, right. 00:15:57.39\00:15:59.32 Mr. John, you can open this eye. 00:15:59.35\00:16:01.36 Okay. 00:16:01.39\00:16:02.72 All right. And just sit for a moment now. 00:16:11.33\00:16:13.77 Diabetes is also a huge factor on the island here 00:16:15.30\00:16:20.88 that causes cataracts in some people. 00:16:20.91\00:16:23.08 Okay, Mr. John, there's a step. 00:16:26.41\00:16:29.72 Take your time standing up. 00:16:29.75\00:16:33.36 And step down. 00:16:33.39\00:16:35.09 There's a step. We're all going to die." 00:19:17.19\00:19:18.52 They were just absolutely freaking out. 00:19:18.55\00:19:22.02 And it's very interesting 00:19:22.06\00:19:23.39 because God says through Moses, 00:19:23.43\00:19:25.19 "Fear not. 00:19:25.23\00:19:26.70 Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord." 00:19:26.73\00:19:31.40 Then He says, "The Lord shall fight for you. 00:19:31.43\00:19:34.94 You shall hold your peace." 00:19:34.97\00:19:36.30 In other words, 00:19:36.34\00:19:37.67 maybe a modern translation would be 00:19:37.71\00:19:39.04 "Shut up and just know that I'm God 00:19:39.07\00:19:40.81 and watch what I'm going to do for you." 00:19:40.84\00:19:43.28 Well, we know at the next moment 00:19:43.31\00:19:44.68 God parted the Red Sea through the hand of Moses, 00:19:44.71\00:19:47.42 all the children went through on dry ground, 00:19:47.45\00:19:50.05 dry ground and then the armies. 00:19:50.09\00:19:52.52 This seems to me a little dumb on the part of the enemy. 00:19:52.55\00:19:56.09 But enemies usually are that way. 00:19:56.12\00:19:58.43 They proceed out through The Red Sea 00:19:58.46\00:20:00.66 and all of a sudden God takes His hand back 00:20:00.70\00:20:03.77 and the waves begin crashing over them. 00:20:03.80\00:20:05.80 They drowned the entire Egyptian army. 00:20:05.83\00:20:09.17 I think a one street preacher in New York that was... 00:20:09.20\00:20:12.07 He was talking about this very subject 00:20:12.11\00:20:13.98 that God drowned the whole Egyptian army 00:20:14.01\00:20:16.01 and one atheist came up to him and said, 00:20:16.04\00:20:18.18 "Man, don't you know, 00:20:18.21\00:20:19.55 that was the reed sea, not the Red Sea. 00:20:19.58\00:20:21.45 And these people were going 00:20:21.48\00:20:22.82 through in just ankle deep water 00:20:22.85\00:20:24.19 and that's all it was." 00:20:24.22\00:20:25.79 He thought he had totally, 00:20:25.82\00:20:27.49 totally taken care of this old street preacher. 00:20:27.52\00:20:29.72 Next day, he comes by 00:20:29.76\00:20:31.09 and the street preacher's saying, 00:20:31.13\00:20:32.46 "Praise God, Hallelujah, 00:20:32.49\00:20:33.83 God drowned the whole Egyptian army 00:20:33.86\00:20:35.20 in 12 inches of water." 00:20:35.23\00:20:37.33 You know, it's all about perspective. 00:20:37.37\00:20:39.03 It's all about how we look at it. 00:20:39.07\00:20:41.27 God wanted His children 00:20:41.30\00:20:42.84 to get the heavenly perspective to keep their eyes upon Him. 00:20:42.87\00:20:47.21 He brought them through this in Chapter 15, 00:20:47.24\00:20:50.41 they sing the song of Moses, the song of deliverance, 00:20:50.45\00:20:53.31 the song of the mighty power of God. 00:20:53.35\00:20:56.25 It's very interesting in Revelation Chapter 15 also, 00:20:56.28\00:21:00.16 you know, we sing the song of deliverance, 00:21:00.19\00:21:03.43 the children of God 00:21:03.46\00:21:04.93 stand on the sea of glass this time, 00:21:04.96\00:21:07.76 first time, Red Sea, now go through it, 00:21:07.80\00:21:09.36 next time stand on the sea of glass, 00:21:09.40\00:21:11.80 and they sing the song of deliverance, 00:21:11.83\00:21:13.57 the song to the Lamb. 00:21:13.60\00:21:15.57 Jesus is the one who takes care of us. 00:21:15.60\00:21:17.51 He's the one who leads us through. 00:21:17.54\00:21:19.01 But they still had a hard time with this lesson. 00:21:19.04\00:21:22.44 He took them on out through this desert, 00:21:22.48\00:21:25.41 this barren land, 00:21:25.45\00:21:26.78 because you see they've been brought out of sin, 00:21:26.82\00:21:28.98 but now they had to learn of God. 00:21:29.02\00:21:31.05 And that situation is all about the process of sanctification. 00:21:31.09\00:21:36.02 Sanctification, 00:21:36.06\00:21:37.39 that is something we learn as we walk with God, 00:21:37.43\00:21:40.00 how we walk with God, how we... 00:21:40.03\00:21:42.16 How we handle that situation as we encounter problems 00:21:42.20\00:21:45.20 and tribulation in this life. 00:21:45.23\00:21:47.40 Well, they got up to... 00:21:47.44\00:21:48.77 There were three days, 00:21:48.80\00:21:50.14 I believe the Bible records three days. 00:21:50.17\00:21:52.21 And what were they going to do? 00:21:52.24\00:21:55.18 They have no water. 00:21:55.21\00:21:56.61 Now the human body as the doctors will testify, 00:21:56.64\00:21:59.31 the human body, you know, 00:21:59.35\00:22:00.68 it just can't do too much without water. 00:22:00.72\00:22:03.52 And here, they said, 00:22:03.55\00:22:05.19 "God, what are you going to do for us? 00:22:05.22\00:22:06.55 We're all going to die. 00:22:06.59\00:22:07.92 You brought us out here in this land to die. 00:22:07.96\00:22:10.43 Absolutely die." 00:22:10.46\00:22:11.79 Well, yeah. Praise God. He took care of it. 00:22:11.83\00:22:15.16 He brought them water. 00:22:15.20\00:22:16.53 Later on, they still don't learn the lesson. 00:22:16.56\00:22:18.73 And they're complaining about no food. 00:22:18.77\00:22:20.97 And, you know, 00:22:21.00\00:22:22.34 God handled that situation as well. 00:22:22.37\00:22:23.97 Later on again, water. 00:22:24.01\00:22:25.51 And then still later on, 00:22:25.54\00:22:27.08 He brought them up to the beautiful Canaan land 00:22:27.11\00:22:28.98 where He said, 00:22:29.01\00:22:30.35 "It's a land flowing with milk and honey, 00:22:30.38\00:22:31.91 and I will take care of you." 00:22:31.95\00:22:34.72 The spies went in, they came back, 00:22:34.75\00:22:36.48 the report was 00:22:36.52\00:22:37.85 "There's giants in the land. 00:22:37.89\00:22:39.22 We can't take the land." 00:22:39.25\00:22:41.19 In our own sight 00:22:41.22\00:22:42.72 we're like little teeny grasshoppers. 00:22:42.76\00:22:45.26 They had a problem, didn't they? 00:22:45.29\00:22:46.80 You see, we're here with an eye clinic. 00:22:46.83\00:22:50.30 Eye sight, 00:22:50.33\00:22:51.67 they were looking at themselves, 00:22:51.70\00:22:53.20 they were not looking at the God of the universe. 00:22:53.23\00:22:56.44 Whole different situation. 00:22:56.47\00:22:57.81 God says in Isaiah, 00:22:57.84\00:22:59.17 He sits on the circle of the earth, 00:22:59.21\00:23:00.64 and all the people look like grasshoppers. 00:23:00.68\00:23:04.15 If God wants you to go someplace, 00:23:04.18\00:23:06.55 God is the one who will handle it. 00:23:06.58\00:23:07.98 God is the one who will deal with it. 00:23:08.02\00:23:09.35 When you're sitting on the shoulders of God, 00:23:09.38\00:23:11.95 there are no giants in the land 00:23:11.99\00:23:13.72 because our God is a mighty God, 00:23:13.76\00:23:15.32 an amazing God. 00:23:15.36\00:23:17.63 Give God that chance in your life. 00:23:17.66\00:23:19.06 Are there giants in your life right now? 00:23:19.09\00:23:20.83 Are there things going on in your life right now? 00:23:20.86\00:23:23.10 Give God the opportunity. 00:23:23.13\00:23:24.90 Stand still. 00:23:24.93\00:23:26.27 God will fight for you. 00:23:26.30\00:23:27.64 Mr. John, we're going to check your block. 00:23:30.51\00:23:32.91 Can you open your eye? 00:23:32.94\00:23:35.48 Of course not. 00:23:35.51\00:23:38.38 Now follow my finger. 00:23:38.41\00:23:40.75 Look over here and look over here. 00:23:40.78\00:23:44.05 See how his eye has no mobility. 00:23:44.09\00:23:46.25 Yeah, so we're just removing. 00:23:49.42\00:23:51.73 Mr. John, you look like a sand 00:23:51.76\00:23:53.60 that I wrapped or I flipped that in last week. 00:23:53.63\00:23:58.23 Are you okay? 00:23:58.27\00:23:59.60 All right. Let's say a prayer. 00:24:08.34\00:24:10.51 Dear Jesus, we want to ask for Your presence 00:24:10.55\00:24:12.41 and Your blessing on the surgery. 00:24:12.45\00:24:14.22 We recognize You as the great physician 00:24:14.25\00:24:15.92 and healer 00:24:15.95\00:24:17.29 and ask that You'll guide during this procedure. 00:24:17.32\00:24:19.15 Pray for a quick healing afterwards and good vision, 00:24:19.19\00:24:22.22 Lord.
