Let's pray. 00:01:12.30\00:01:13.68 Our Father in heaven, thank you for bringing us 00:01:14.96\00:01:16.83 once again to Your house. 00:01:16.93\00:01:18.47 We anticipate great blessings from Your hands 00:01:19.69\00:01:22.67 as we open with reverent hands Your holy Word. 00:01:23.44\00:01:27.36 As we study about Armageddon, earth's last great battle, 00:01:28.27\00:01:32.28 we ask for the guidance of Your Holy Spirit 00:01:32.38\00:01:35.31 and we ask also that You will help us to be on the right side 00:01:35.61\00:01:38.40 in this final conflict. 00:01:38.70\00:01:40.95 We pray this in the precious name of Jesus, 00:01:41.25\00:01:43.98 Your beloved Son, Amen. 00:01:44.18\00:01:46.66 There is no battle 00:01:49.70\00:01:52.56 in the history of the world that has received more publicity 00:01:53.72\00:01:56.88 than the Battle of Armageddon. 00:01:57.19\00:01:59.03 I'd like to begin by reading the passage which deals with 00:02:00.09\00:02:03.99 the Battle of Armageddon. 00:02:04.19\00:02:05.36 It's found in Revelation chapter 16 00:02:05.76\00:02:09.53 and verses 12 through 16. 00:02:09.83\00:02:12.51 This is the sixth plague 00:02:13.48\00:02:18.55 of the seven plagues of Revelation. 00:02:18.86\00:02:21.10 And it says this: 00:02:22.05\00:02:23.73 Now in our lecture today we are not going to study 00:03:18.82\00:03:21.79 everything relating to the Battle of Armageddon. 00:03:21.99\00:03:24.84 Many many books have been written on this battle. 00:03:26.56\00:03:29.66 And by the way, most of what has been written 00:03:30.06\00:03:32.73 about this battle is flat wrong. 00:03:32.94\00:03:35.68 But as I read the books 00:03:36.70\00:03:39.80 that have been written about the 00:03:39.90\00:03:41.34 Battle of Armageddon 00:03:41.44\00:03:42.52 I am amazed to see 00:03:42.82\00:03:44.53 that the writers comment on everything in this passage 00:03:44.73\00:03:50.08 abundantly, but there's one verse which seems 00:03:50.28\00:03:54.88 to be shuffled under the rug and very little is said 00:03:55.08\00:03:59.05 about that specific verse. 00:03:59.15\00:04:01.38 You see, as I have read books 00:04:01.68\00:04:03.42 from many different denominations about the 00:04:03.62\00:04:06.13 Battle of Armageddon they have very much to say about 00:04:06.23\00:04:09.12 the waters of the Euphrates drying up 00:04:09.42\00:04:11.90 and the kings from the east and the dragon, the beast, 00:04:12.11\00:04:15.04 and the false prophet and the three evil spirits like frogs. 00:04:15.24\00:04:19.59 There's very much exposition when it comes to this, 00:04:19.89\00:04:23.39 but the verse which rarely receives much of a comment 00:04:23.69\00:04:28.95 is verse 15. 00:04:29.25\00:04:32.11 In fact, you know the interesting thing 00:04:32.52\00:04:34.41 is that this is the only time 00:04:34.61\00:04:37.22 between Revelation 3:21 and Revelation chapter 21 00:04:37.52\00:04:43.08 that Jesus clearly speaks in Revelation. 00:04:43.38\00:04:49.33 So if this is the only verse where Jesus explicitly speaks 00:04:49.67\00:04:54.98 between Revelation 3:21 and Revelation chapter 21, 00:04:55.08\00:04:59.62 it must be a very important verse. 00:04:59.92\00:05:04.20 Let's notice this verse again 00:05:04.60\00:05:06.91 because it deals with the issues involved 00:05:07.21\00:05:09.98 in the Battle of Armageddon. 00:05:10.08\00:05:11.30 It says once again in chapter 16 and verse 15, 00:05:11.60\00:05:16.46 here Jesus is speaking: 00:05:16.66\00:05:17.93 The Battle of Armageddon has everything to do 00:05:34.82\00:05:37.99 with the way in which we are dressed. 00:05:38.19\00:05:41.47 The way in which we are garbed. 00:05:41.77\00:05:43.75 You see, in the Battle of Armageddon there are going to be 00:05:44.15\00:05:46.65 two different groups of people: 00:05:46.85\00:05:48.93 those who are found with their garments on 00:05:49.23\00:05:53.92 and those who are found naked. 00:05:54.12\00:05:57.20 Now the question is: what does it mean to be 00:05:57.50\00:06:00.41 covered with the garments and what does it mean 00:06:00.71\00:06:04.21 to be naked? 00:06:04.51\00:06:05.70 We need to go back, of course, to the book of Genesis. 00:06:06.00\00:06:09.87 So go back with me to Genesis chapter 2 00:06:10.17\00:06:13.49 and I'm going to read very quickly verses 15 through 17. 00:06:13.79\00:06:18.79 Genesis chapter 2 and verses 15 through 17. 00:06:19.09\00:06:23.92 We've read this many times before, but let's read it again. 00:06:25.04\00:06:27.82 Did God give a clear commandment to Adam and Eve? 00:06:46.48\00:06:48.99 He most certainly did. 00:06:49.29\00:06:50.87 Of course here it's given to Adam, but Eve repeats it 00:06:51.17\00:06:53.58 in chapter 3... so they both understood the command of God. 00:06:53.68\00:06:56.64 Now the Bible tells us that before Adam and Eve sinned 00:06:57.65\00:07:02.82 in their state of innocence while they were still obedient 00:07:03.02\00:07:06.57 to God, there was something very interesting that 00:07:06.77\00:07:10.22 characterized them. Go with me to Genesis chapter 2 00:07:10.32\00:07:13.20 and verse 25. Genesis chapter 2 and verse 25. 00:07:13.40\00:07:17.40 And remember, this is describing Adam and Eve 00:07:17.50\00:07:19.47 while they were still obedient to God's commandment. 00:07:19.77\00:07:23.55 And we've already studied that in this one commandment 00:07:23.76\00:07:26.33 are contained all of the Ten Commandments in principle. 00:07:26.44\00:07:29.63 But I want you to notice the condition they were in 00:07:29.83\00:07:31.82 while they were obedient to God's commandments. 00:07:32.02\00:07:35.39 It says in Genesis 2 verse 25: 00:07:35.69\00:07:38.24 Now is there any connection between that verse 00:07:45.65\00:07:48.27 and Revelation 16 verse 15? 00:07:48.47\00:07:50.00 Very clearly there's a connection. 00:07:50.40\00:07:52.22 There's the idea of nakedness 00:07:52.42\00:07:54.43 and there's the idea of shame. 00:07:54.63\00:07:56.52 Two words that we noticed in Revelation 16 verse 15. 00:07:56.92\00:08:00.92 So when they are in this con- dition of obedience to God's law 00:08:01.22\00:08:04.79 the Bible tells us that they were naked and they were not 00:08:04.99\00:08:07.75 ashamed. Now after they sinned 00:08:07.85\00:08:10.48 they noticed that they were naked. 00:08:10.68\00:08:12.51 Where was the change? 00:08:12.82\00:08:14.39 Allow me to go through it very quickly. 00:08:14.69\00:08:16.72 Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden 00:08:17.12\00:08:19.28 were naked with respect to human, man-made garments. 00:08:19.48\00:08:24.02 But the Bible makes it very clear that they were originally 00:08:24.42\00:08:27.66 covered with the glory of God. 00:08:27.77\00:08:29.93 They were covered with a glorious light. 00:08:30.23\00:08:32.13 And you say: "How do we know that? " 00:08:32.43\00:08:33.61 I'm only going to mention the verses because we've already 00:08:33.92\00:08:36.49 read them previously. 00:08:36.59\00:08:38.28 In Psalm 8 verses 5 and 6 we're told that when man was 00:08:38.48\00:08:41.75 created God crowned him with glory and splendor. 00:08:41.85\00:08:46.92 In other words, man was covered with God's glory. 00:08:47.22\00:08:51.23 He was covered with God's splendor 00:08:51.33\00:08:53.39 in his state of innocence. 00:08:53.59\00:08:54.96 Incidentally, the true church in Revelation 12 and verse 1 00:08:55.26\00:08:58.81 is described as a woman who is clothed with what? 00:08:59.01\00:09:03.54 She is clothed with the sun. 00:09:03.64\00:09:05.47 In other words, her garments are not artificial human garments, 00:09:05.67\00:09:08.34 they are garments of light. 00:09:08.64\00:09:10.81 We also noticed that when Jesus 00:09:11.12\00:09:13.19 was on the Mount of Transfiguration 00:09:13.22\00:09:15.18 He was transfigured. And the Bible says 00:09:15.28\00:09:17.41 that His garments glowed or shone like the light. 00:09:17.61\00:09:22.75 And by the way, the Bible tells us that the white garments 00:09:23.15\00:09:26.05 that God has are really garments of light. 00:09:26.25\00:09:29.71 Allow me to read just this one text to prove this point. 00:09:30.01\00:09:33.18 Psalm 104 and verses 1 and 2. 00:09:33.38\00:09:36.97 Psalm 104 and verses 1 and 2. 00:09:37.27\00:09:40.31 Notice how God is garbed. 00:09:40.61\00:09:42.73 What the clothing of God is when it speaks about Him 00:09:43.03\00:09:45.24 being covered with white raiment. 00:09:45.34\00:09:47.00 It says there in Psalm 104 verses 1 and 2: 00:09:47.40\00:09:50.44 "Bless the Lord, O my soul... " 00:09:50.65\00:09:53.41 So what are the white garments of God? 00:10:10.79\00:10:12.88 The white garments of God are light. 00:10:12.91\00:10:15.97 And so Adam and Eve, while they were obedient to God's law, 00:10:16.27\00:10:19.14 as they stood in their innocence the Bible says 00:10:19.34\00:10:22.68 that they were covered with a glorious robe of light. 00:10:22.88\00:10:26.81 They were naked with respect to human garments 00:10:27.01\00:10:29.25 but they were covered with the glory of God. 00:10:29.46\00:10:32.30 But then came sin. 00:10:32.70\00:10:34.14 Go with me to Genesis chapter 3 and verse 7 00:10:34.44\00:10:36.99 and notice the change that took place in Adam and Eve 00:10:37.19\00:10:40.18 when they sinned. the first consequence of their sin. 00:10:40.38\00:10:43.29 It says in Genesis 3 verse 7: 00:10:43.59\00:10:45.66 So what was the first result? 00:10:52.71\00:10:54.51 They now noticed that they are what? Naked. 00:10:54.71\00:10:57.37 So it must have been that the glorious robe of light 00:10:57.57\00:10:59.91 that covered them had left them. 00:11:00.12\00:11:02.94 And now they don't have human garments, 00:11:03.24\00:11:06.36 and they don't even have the garments of light. 00:11:06.56\00:11:08.45 And so they see that they are naked. 00:11:08.75\00:11:09.96 And notice how they try to solve the problem. 00:11:10.16\00:11:12.41 It says in verse 7... the last part of the verse: 00:11:12.61\00:11:15.75 They tried to cover their disobedience to God's law, 00:11:23.29\00:11:26.37 they tried to cover the shame of their nakedness, 00:11:26.67\00:11:31.22 with fig leaves. 00:11:31.42\00:11:33.68 With garments made by themselves. 00:11:33.88\00:11:37.40 But it's interesting to notice 00:11:37.60\00:11:38.77 that Genesis tells us that even after they covered 00:11:38.97\00:11:41.21 themselves with the fig leaves they still felt naked. 00:11:41.31\00:11:44.05 Which shows that their nakedness was not nakedness of body. 00:11:44.25\00:11:47.73 Their nakedness was nakedness of soul. 00:11:47.93\00:11:50.62 They had sinned against God. 00:11:50.82\00:11:52.20 They had broken the law of God. 00:11:52.40\00:11:53.88 The glory had left them 00:11:54.09\00:11:55.56 because they were now transgressors of God's holy law. 00:11:55.86\00:11:59.38 Notice verses 9 and 10 of Genesis 3. 00:11:59.78\00:12:02.48 At this point he wasn't naked with respect to human garments. 00:12:14.67\00:12:17.68 He had the fig leaves on him 00:12:17.98\00:12:19.87 and yet he's saying at this point that he still feels naked. 00:12:20.17\00:12:24.04 Obviously the garments that are made by human beings 00:12:24.24\00:12:27.09 could not cover the nakedness because only the glory of God 00:12:27.29\00:12:32.26 could cover the nakedness. 00:12:32.46\00:12:34.87 So as Adam and Eve stood obedient to God's law 00:12:35.17\00:12:38.08 they were covered with God's glory. 00:12:38.28\00:12:40.11 When they disobeyed God's law 00:12:40.41\00:12:42.42 they were now destitute of the glory of God. 00:12:42.62\00:12:45.76 But as we found in our study God promised them 00:12:46.53\00:12:49.35 that He was going to give them another opportunity. 00:12:49.55\00:12:52.12 The famous verse of Genesis 3 verse 15. 00:12:52.53\00:12:55.22 Let's read that again. Genesis chapter 3 and verse 15. 00:12:55.42\00:12:59.11 God promises to send a Seed to the world to restore that 00:12:59.41\00:13:02.43 which was lost. It says there in Genesis 3 00:13:02.54\00:13:06.30 and verse 15, God speaking to the serpent: 00:13:06.44\00:13:08.81 In other words, there's going to be a battle here 00:13:25.55\00:13:27.32 between Satan and the Seed of the woman. 00:13:27.42\00:13:29.62 Satan is going to bruise the Seed of the woman's heel 00:13:29.82\00:13:33.36 whereas the Seed of the woman is going to strike 00:13:33.56\00:13:36.55 and He's going to bruise the head of the serpent. 00:13:36.75\00:13:40.07 Now the question is: how was this Seed going to 00:13:41.09\00:13:46.24 give the serpent the bruise on his head? 00:13:46.44\00:13:49.99 Genesis 3:21 makes it very clear. 00:13:50.29\00:13:53.18 In order to bruise the head of the serpent, Adam and Eve 00:13:53.48\00:13:55.96 had to be restored to their original condition. 00:13:56.06\00:13:58.63 How could Adam and Eve be restored to their 00:13:58.93\00:14:01.42 original condition where they were covered, where the shame 00:14:01.52\00:14:05.13 of their nakedness was truly covered? 00:14:05.23\00:14:07.23 Notice Genesis 3 and verse 21. 00:14:07.53\00:14:09.82 Here is the secret. 00:14:10.13\00:14:11.87 It says in verse 21: 00:14:12.17\00:14:13.61 "Also for Adam and his wife 00:14:13.81\00:14:19.03 the Lord God made... " What? "tunics of skin 00:14:19.23\00:14:24.69 and clothed them. " 00:14:24.89\00:14:28.11 Who made the garments? 00:14:28.41\00:14:29.92 God did. 00:14:30.22\00:14:31.47 What did God do with the garments? 00:14:31.77\00:14:34.22 He clothed them. In other words, He covered their what? 00:14:34.42\00:14:37.80 He covered their nakedness. 00:14:38.00\00:14:40.02 What was the only way in which the nakedness of Adam and Eve 00:14:40.32\00:14:44.06 and their descendants could be covered once again 00:14:44.16\00:14:46.67 with the glory of God? 00:14:46.77\00:14:48.43 Only by the death of the Lamb of God 00:14:48.63\00:14:53.30 who takes away the sins of the world. 00:14:53.40\00:14:55.53 By the way, it says "skins" - plural - 00:14:55.93\00:15:01.65 which means that there was more than one animal involved. 00:15:01.88\00:15:04.60 There were two sinners incidentally. 00:15:04.70\00:15:07.10 In order to get the skin of an animal, 00:15:07.41\00:15:09.54 the animal has to be what? 00:15:09.64\00:15:11.27 The animal has to be slain. 00:15:11.47\00:15:13.11 In other words, there was an animal sacrifice. 00:15:13.41\00:15:15.70 And the impression you get from the Bible is that this 00:15:16.00\00:15:18.39 took place in the very Garden of Eden. 00:15:18.50\00:15:19.97 Before God cast Adam and Eve out 00:15:20.17\00:15:22.00 He said: "There's hope; I'm going to send a Seed. 00:15:22.20\00:15:24.94 He's going to bruise the head of the serpent, 00:15:25.24\00:15:26.74 and the way that He's going to do it is by dying 00:15:26.94\00:15:29.56 as the Lamb of God so that your nakedness can once again 00:15:29.66\00:15:33.34 be... " What? "so that your nakedness can be covered. " 00:15:33.54\00:15:37.13 Wasn't this a marvelous promise? 00:15:37.73\00:15:39.62 Now you say: "What does this have to do with the Battle 00:15:40.36\00:15:42.41 of Armageddon? " Well, this evening we are going to study 00:15:42.51\00:15:46.63 the story that we find in the first half of Genesis chapter 4 00:15:47.53\00:15:52.63 because it has a very close relationship with what we just 00:15:53.03\00:15:55.99 talked about: how the nakedness of man was going to be covered 00:15:56.09\00:15:59.61 by the death of lambs to cover the shame of their nakedness. 00:15:59.81\00:16:04.22 God was telling Adam and Eve: "This is the only way 00:16:04.32\00:16:07.49 in which sin can be dealt with; the head of the serpent 00:16:07.69\00:16:11.35 can be bruised; and you can be restored 00:16:11.56\00:16:13.93 to your original condition. " 00:16:14.13\00:16:16.17 Now go with me to Genesis chapter 4 and verses 1 and 2. 00:16:16.37\00:16:20.61 Genesis chapter 4 and verses 1 and 2. 00:16:20.84\00:16:23.02 This is the story of 2 brothers. 00:16:23.42\00:16:25.48 Very well known. Their names? Cain and Abel. 00:16:25.78\00:16:30.33 And in this story we're going to see 00:16:30.73\00:16:32.15 the first Battle of Armageddon in history. 00:16:32.26\00:16:35.32 In fact, it gives us an illustration of what the final 00:16:35.73\00:16:38.99 battle is all about. 00:16:39.09\00:16:40.45 Let's go to Genesis 4 verse 1. 00:16:40.75\00:16:43.51 By the way, that's a mis-translation. 00:16:56.56\00:16:58.29 The Hebrew says: "I have acquired a man... the Lord. " 00:16:58.49\00:17:02.54 What had God promised? 00:17:04.29\00:17:05.81 That He was going to send a Seed of the woman. 00:17:06.01\00:17:07.97 And so Even now thinks that this is the Seed of the woman. 00:17:08.70\00:17:12.19 And so she says: "I have acquired a Seed... the Lord. " 00:17:12.49\00:17:16.55 Little did she realize that this seed was not going to be 00:17:16.78\00:17:20.35 the Messiah. This seed was going to be the devil's seed. 00:17:20.45\00:17:24.92 Incidentally, this story shows beyond any shadow of a doubt 00:17:25.83\00:17:30.48 that the seed that you are is not determined 00:17:30.78\00:17:34.97 by your genetic makeup. 00:17:35.17\00:17:37.97 It's not determined by your birth. 00:17:38.18\00:17:40.47 It's not determined by the place you live. 00:17:40.77\00:17:43.17 It's not determined by your national identity. 00:17:43.47\00:17:46.42 Because both brothers were born from the same woman. 00:17:46.62\00:17:49.38 What this shows - this story - is that whose seed you are 00:17:50.33\00:17:55.06 depends on your character. 00:17:55.26\00:17:57.98 It does not depend on what nation you belong to, 00:17:58.38\00:18:01.63 whether you are a Jew or an Arab, 00:18:01.73\00:18:03.91 whether you are a citizen of the United States or Mexico 00:18:04.11\00:18:07.13 or wherever. The way that you determine 00:18:07.23\00:18:10.16 which seed you belong to is by the character that you possess. 00:18:10.36\00:18:14.60 Now notice Genesis chapter 4 00:18:15.10\00:18:18.29 and let's continue reading at verse 2. 00:18:18.59\00:18:21.59 It says: "Then she bore again... 00:18:21.89\00:18:25.83 this time his brother Abel. " 00:18:26.03\00:18:29.51 By the way, the name Abel means vapor. 00:18:29.71\00:18:32.43 It's the same word that is translated in Ecclesiastes 00:18:33.38\00:18:37.08 vanity. 00:18:37.38\00:18:38.85 I won't get into that any more. 00:18:39.15\00:18:41.79 It says: "Then she bore again... this time his brother Abel. " 00:18:42.48\00:18:46.07 Now is there anything wrong with being a tiller of the soil? 00:18:56.75\00:19:00.06 No. Is there anything wrong with being a keeper of sheep? 00:19:00.96\00:19:03.59 Absolutely not. 00:19:03.89\00:19:05.26 Did Cain and Abel know that God required them to offer 00:19:05.56\00:19:10.31 an animal sacrifice to take care of their sins? 00:19:10.51\00:19:12.87 Do we have that in the previous chapter? Yes! 00:19:13.70\00:19:16.99 Had God said: "The only way that sin can be dealt with, 00:19:17.12\00:19:21.07 the only way in which man can be restored 00:19:21.37\00:19:24.33 to cover his nakedness is by the death of the Lamb of God 00:19:24.53\00:19:28.24 who takes away the sin of the world. " And of course, 00:19:28.44\00:19:30.23 the animals represented the coming Messiah in the future. 00:19:30.33\00:19:33.84 Did they know it? They must have 00:19:34.14\00:19:36.32 because Genesis 3:21 speaks about that. 00:19:36.52\00:19:39.33 And now I want you to notice, however, what happens here. 00:19:40.28\00:19:43.48 Genesis chapter 4 and verse 3. 00:19:43.78\00:19:47.03 Genesis 4 and verse 3. It says here: 00:19:47.23\00:19:50.81 Is that what God has asked for? 00:20:04.51\00:20:06.28 Had God asked for the fruit of the ground? 00:20:07.21\00:20:11.27 Absolutely not. What had He asked for 00:20:11.57\00:20:13.69 that could remove sin? 00:20:13.89\00:20:15.42 The sacrifice of the lamb. 00:20:15.72\00:20:17.73 So let me ask you: did Cain 00:20:18.62\00:20:22.21 bring an offering to God? Yes he did. 00:20:23.12\00:20:26.29 Did he raise an altar to God? 00:20:26.39\00:20:28.35 Did he claim to be a worshiper of God? 00:20:28.65\00:20:31.33 Yes he did. 00:20:31.53\00:20:32.56 Was he obedient to God? No! 00:20:32.75\00:20:36.32 Did he worship God on God's terms? 00:20:36.53\00:20:39.11 Did he worship God the way God said? Or did he worship 00:20:39.41\00:20:42.21 God the way he wanted to? 00:20:42.41\00:20:43.91 You see he worships as he wants. 00:20:44.21\00:20:46.53 He disobeys God and he refuses 00:20:46.83\00:20:50.04 to offer an animal. 00:20:50.24\00:20:52.21 And the Bible says that only the shedding of blood 00:20:52.61\00:20:56.48 can remit what? Only the shedding of blood 00:20:56.68\00:20:59.63 can remit sin. 00:20:59.83\00:21:02.38 And so Cain is the disobedient one. 00:21:02.78\00:21:06.02 Cain is the one who worships God as he wishes... 00:21:06.32\00:21:09.79 not as God has commanded. 00:21:10.09\00:21:11.46 Cain is the one who claims to serve the true God 00:21:11.76\00:21:14.77 but rejects the blood of the lamb. 00:21:14.97\00:21:17.14 Cain is Abel's brother. 00:21:17.54\00:21:20.29 It's not like Cain is some outsider 00:21:21.37\00:21:24.62 and Abel, his brother, is some insider 00:21:24.82\00:21:26.98 and this outsider comes to kill his brother. 00:21:27.08\00:21:29.07 They both claim to worship God. 00:21:29.57\00:21:31.63 They both raise up an altar. 00:21:31.73\00:21:33.60 They both bring an offering. 00:21:33.81\00:21:35.77 They both claim to serve God 00:21:35.80\00:21:37.89 and yet they have radically different characters 00:21:38.09\00:21:40.89 even though they claim to serve the same God. 00:21:41.09\00:21:44.08 Now you know there are some scholars, 00:21:44.83\00:21:46.40 and of course I've read lots of books on this story, 00:21:46.60\00:21:48.61 that say that the reason why God didn't accept Cain's 00:21:48.81\00:21:52.71 offering is because Cain had a nasty attitude. 00:21:52.91\00:21:57.26 It wasn't so much the offering that he brought that made 00:21:57.76\00:22:01.49 the difference, but he just had a lousy attitude 00:22:01.59\00:22:04.26 when he came to worship God. 00:22:04.36\00:22:05.84 Listen, that flies in the face of the evidence that we find 00:22:06.14\00:22:09.71 in all of scripture concerning Cain. 00:22:09.91\00:22:12.13 It was not his attitude 00:22:12.43\00:22:14.54 which led God to reject his sacrifice. 00:22:14.84\00:22:17.48 It was the act of offering the sacrifice that he did 00:22:17.78\00:22:21.48 in disobedience to God. 00:22:21.79\00:22:23.35 Worshiping God on his own terms and rejecting 00:22:23.65\00:22:27.57 the fact of shedding the blood which will ultimately cover 00:22:27.77\00:22:32.11 the nakedness of his sin. 00:22:32.31\00:22:33.94 You say: "How do we know that? " 00:22:34.14\00:22:35.17 Let me go through the evidence. 00:22:35.35\00:22:36.75 First of all, Genesis 3:21 shows us that they knew 00:22:37.77\00:22:41.01 about the sacrifice of animals to cover the nakedness. 00:22:41.21\00:22:43.84 Impossible that Adam and Eve did not tell them that. 00:22:44.69\00:22:47.79 In fact, from the point that these sacrifices were made 00:22:48.09\00:22:51.54 there's no doubt that sacri- fices were offered after this. 00:22:51.74\00:22:55.46 Furthermore... and I'm not going to read these texts, 00:22:56.48\00:22:58.66 I'm just going to mention them... 00:22:58.87\00:23:00.08 God tells Cain in chapter 4 and verse 7: 00:23:00.19\00:23:03.57 "You know, if you do good... " 00:23:03.77\00:23:05.72 Notice... not if you have a good attitude. 00:23:06.73\00:23:08.28 "If you do good, won't you be accepted? 00:23:08.38\00:23:11.79 Won't your sacrifice be accepted? 00:23:12.09\00:23:13.74 But if you do evil, sin lies at the... " What? 00:23:13.94\00:23:18.57 "Sin lies at the gate or at the door. " 00:23:18.77\00:23:21.32 In other words, clearly in Genesis 4 and verse 7 00:23:21.73\00:23:25.19 it tells us that Cain did not do good 00:23:25.39\00:23:28.76 by bringing the offering that he did. 00:23:29.06\00:23:31.04 By the way, the Bible says in James 4 verse 17 00:23:31.34\00:23:33.77 that sin consists of knowing what you're supposed to do 00:23:33.97\00:23:38.46 and not doing it. It's he who knows how to do good 00:23:38.66\00:23:41.55 and does not do it that is sin. 00:23:41.75\00:23:43.71 So was sin lying at the gate of Cain's door? 00:23:43.91\00:23:47.27 It most certainly was. 00:23:47.47\00:23:49.05 Furthermore Hebrews 11 and verse 4 00:23:49.35\00:23:51.99 very very clearly tells us that the difference was in the 00:23:52.19\00:23:55.88 sacrifice that they offered. 00:23:55.98\00:23:57.83 Notice Hebrews chapter 11 and verse 4. 00:23:58.13\00:24:01.60 This is an important verse that we need to read. 00:24:01.90\00:24:03.99 It says here in Hebrews 11 and verse 4 00:24:04.39\00:24:07.13 about the sacrifice that was made by Abel: 00:24:07.33\00:24:10.11 Where was the difference? 00:24:40.49\00:24:41.92 It was not a difference in attitude. 00:24:42.12\00:24:43.63 It was a difference in offering or in sacrifice. 00:24:43.83\00:24:47.11 Furthermore, in I John chapter 3 and verse 12 00:24:47.75\00:24:50.40 which we have read previously in other contexts 00:24:50.60\00:24:53.67 it says: 00:24:53.77\00:24:54.80 So where was the problem? 00:25:08.82\00:25:10.55 Was it with the attitude or with the actions? 00:25:10.66\00:25:13.13 The problem was with the actions. 00:25:13.43\00:25:16.72 And by the way, we're going to notice in a moment 00:25:17.03\00:25:19.26 in verse 4 that Abel offered the firstlings of his flock 00:25:19.46\00:25:24.17 and their fat. 00:25:24.37\00:25:26.10 That's very significant 00:25:26.40\00:25:27.95 because some people say: "It doesn't say in Genesis 4 00:25:28.05\00:25:30.39 that Abel offered a sacrifice. " 00:25:30.59\00:25:33.67 But it's very clear that he did, and we're going to notice that. 00:25:33.97\00:25:36.88 But what I want you to notice for now is that Cain did not 00:25:37.11\00:25:39.59 offer the firstlings or the first fruits of his flock 00:25:39.79\00:25:43.17 and he did not offer their fat to God. 00:25:43.47\00:25:45.46 Now... let's go back to Genesis chapter 4 00:25:45.76\00:25:48.84 and read verse 4. We're contrasting the attitude 00:25:48.87\00:25:51.88 of these two brothers. 00:25:52.08\00:25:53.26 Genesis chapter 4 and verse 4. It says: 00:25:53.57\00:25:55.27 Now why would Abel bring the firstborn 00:26:03.52\00:26:08.53 of his flock and why would he bring their fat? 00:26:08.73\00:26:11.57 Where would he get such an idea that he was supposed to 00:26:13.42\00:26:15.65 offer God the firstborn of his flocks 00:26:15.75\00:26:18.17 and that he was supposed to offer their fat? 00:26:18.47\00:26:20.76 Do you think he just said: "Oh, I think it would be nice 00:26:21.06\00:26:22.65 to offer God the firstborn and to offer their fat? " 00:26:22.75\00:26:24.86 Of course not. 00:26:25.16\00:26:26.47 We know very clearly from the later sacrificial service - 00:26:27.26\00:26:30.74 listen to what I'm going to say - 00:26:30.94\00:26:32.14 from the later sacrificial service in the sanctuary 00:26:32.34\00:26:35.16 that every firstborn animal 00:26:35.36\00:26:38.15 was the property of God 00:26:38.45\00:26:42.03 and was to be brought to the temple for God. 00:26:42.34\00:26:45.50 And we also know... and I'm going to mention the verses 00:26:45.80\00:26:48.42 in a moment... you can read them at your leisure, 00:26:48.52\00:26:50.17 they're on the list... 00:26:50.27\00:26:51.37 We also know that when the animal was sacrificed 00:26:51.57\00:26:54.64 the fat was separated from the animal 00:26:54.85\00:26:57.28 and was burned upon the altar. 00:26:57.48\00:26:59.18 By the way, you could not get the fat of the animal 00:26:59.48\00:27:01.49 unless you what? Unless you killed the animal. 00:27:01.69\00:27:04.67 So very clearly, God was the One who told Abel 00:27:04.98\00:27:08.38 "You should offer the firstlings or the firstborn of your flocks 00:27:08.58\00:27:12.57 and you should offer their fat. " 00:27:12.77\00:27:14.93 Because there's no way that Abel would have simply guessed that. 00:27:15.13\00:27:17.56 And besides, the later sanctuary service shows us 00:27:17.76\00:27:20.56 that God required that. Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:27:20.66\00:27:23.32 In other words, Cain did not bring the firstborn 00:27:24.20\00:27:27.56 of his flock. Cain did not bring the fat. 00:27:27.66\00:27:32.62 Cain did not bring what God said. 00:27:32.86\00:27:34.88 He worshiped God on his own terms 00:27:34.98\00:27:37.25 and he disobeyed God. He refused to bring the blood. 00:27:37.45\00:27:41.93 Now in Hebrews 9 verse 22 it says: 00:27:42.33\00:27:44.53 So was there any satisfaction for the sins of Cain 00:27:54.63\00:27:57.71 just by bringing the fruit of the ground? 00:27:58.68\00:28:01.45 Absolutely not. 00:28:01.55\00:28:03.07 And so we find three characteristics about Cain. 00:28:03.27\00:28:05.82 Number one: he rejected Jesus by not offering an animal. 00:28:06.02\00:28:10.85 Secondly: he disobeyed God's explicit order. 00:28:11.15\00:28:14.64 He was disobedient. And number three: 00:28:14.84\00:28:16.61 he worshiped God, he brought an offering, 00:28:16.82\00:28:18.99 he raised an altar... but he worshiped God 00:28:19.19\00:28:21.64 not as God had commanded but he worshiped God 00:28:21.75\00:28:24.97 as he pleased. 00:28:25.17\00:28:28.13 Are you starting to catch a picture of the difference 00:28:28.53\00:28:30.77 between Cain and Abel? 00:28:30.97\00:28:32.01 Let me ask you: did Abel obey God's specifications 00:28:32.31\00:28:35.62 exactly? Yes he did. 00:28:35.82\00:28:38.06 Did Abel obey God, did he worship God the way 00:28:38.36\00:28:42.61 God commanded that He should be worshiped? 00:28:42.71\00:28:44.66 Absolutely! Did Abel accept the blood of Jesus 00:28:44.86\00:28:49.55 to save him from his sins? 00:28:49.75\00:28:51.05 Sure, because in Hebrews 11 verse 4 it says: 00:28:51.35\00:28:53.86 "By faith Abel offered a more excellent sacrifice. " 00:28:54.06\00:28:57.37 He looked by faith to the sacrifice of Jesus, the Messiah. 00:28:57.67\00:29:01.84 Now I want you to go back with me to Genesis chapter 4 00:29:02.07\00:29:05.06 and you're going to notice something very interesting here 00:29:05.09\00:29:07.88 in... We'll read verse 4 for the context again 00:29:08.18\00:29:10.81 and then we'll go on to verse 5. It says: 00:29:10.91\00:29:13.07 Did God accept the offering of Cain? 00:29:27.28\00:29:29.44 Why didn't He accept the offering of Cain? 00:29:29.74\00:29:32.26 Didn't Cain come to worship Him? 00:29:32.46\00:29:33.84 Didn't Cain raise an altar? 00:29:34.24\00:29:36.04 Didn't Cain place the fruit of the ground upon the altar? 00:29:36.54\00:29:39.97 Didn't he claim to worship the true God? 00:29:40.74\00:29:42.78 He most certainly did. 00:29:43.08\00:29:44.18 So why did God reject the offering of Cain? 00:29:44.48\00:29:47.85 For three reasons. 00:29:48.78\00:29:50.64 Number one: because without shedding of blood there is no 00:29:50.84\00:29:54.24 remission of sins. Number two: 00:29:54.34\00:29:57.43 Cain was disobedient to God's specific command. 00:29:57.63\00:30:01.15 And number three: Cain offered a substitute in place of what 00:30:01.35\00:30:04.76 God had asked for. 00:30:04.96\00:30:06.86 And God can take no substitutes. 00:30:07.16\00:30:10.00 When we substitute for worship 00:30:10.24\00:30:12.07 something that God has not 00:30:12.27\00:30:13.62 commanded us to offer, that is unacceptable to God. 00:30:13.72\00:30:18.42 Now how did God show that He approved Abel's sacrifice 00:30:18.72\00:30:22.81 and He did not approve of Cain's sacrifice? 00:30:22.91\00:30:25.28 You know, I find it very interesting the way some 00:30:25.48\00:30:27.54 scholars think. As I studied for this subject 00:30:27.64\00:30:30.70 I noticed that some scholars said that the way Cain knew 00:30:30.90\00:30:36.34 that Abel's sacrifice had been accepted and his not 00:30:36.44\00:30:39.15 is that the smoke from Abel's sacrifice went up 00:30:39.35\00:30:42.90 whereas the smoke of Cain's sacrifice went down. 00:30:43.10\00:30:46.04 That sounds so interesting. 00:30:46.34\00:30:49.15 But we don't have to speculate. 00:30:49.45\00:30:51.22 How did God show in the Bible that He accepted a sacrifice? 00:30:51.52\00:30:56.95 The Bible tells us how God showed that He accepted 00:30:57.72\00:31:01.11 a sacrifice. Allow me just to mention 00:31:01.21\00:31:03.22 four examples from the Old Testament. 00:31:03.42\00:31:06.26 I'll just mention them. Leviticus 9:24. 00:31:06.36\00:31:08.82 When the sanctuary was established in the wilderness - 00:31:09.22\00:31:12.05 the sanctuary service - the Bible says that the animals 00:31:12.15\00:31:14.89 were placed upon the altar of sacrifice 00:31:14.99\00:31:16.65 and God showed His acceptance by raining fire from heaven 00:31:16.85\00:31:20.55 that consumed the sacrifices. 00:31:20.75\00:31:22.84 In I Chronicles chapter 21 and verse 26 00:31:23.14\00:31:28.24 David invoked the name of the Lord and offered a sacrifice. 00:31:28.27\00:31:32.22 And God showed His approval of David's sacrifice by raining 00:31:32.42\00:31:35.75 fire from heaven and consuming the sacrifice. 00:31:35.85\00:31:38.40 When Solomon's temple was dedicated 00:31:38.70\00:31:41.52 II Chronicles chapter 7 and verse 1 00:31:41.72\00:31:43.66 Solomon prayed to God and God rained fire from heaven 00:31:43.96\00:31:47.03 and consumed the sacrifice. 00:31:47.23\00:31:48.77 In the days of Elijah, Elijah invoked the name of the Lord. 00:31:49.07\00:31:52.25 And the Bible tells us that God responded to the prayer 00:31:52.55\00:31:55.94 of Elijah by raining fire from heaven. 00:31:56.14\00:31:58.19 So what happened originally when Abel invoked the name 00:31:58.50\00:32:02.23 of the Lord... what happened is that fire came down from heaven 00:32:02.33\00:32:06.83 and consumed the sacrifice of Abel. 00:32:07.03\00:32:09.55 And the sacrifice of Cain remained on the altar without 00:32:09.75\00:32:13.97 any fire. 00:32:14.07\00:32:16.23 God was saying: "I do not accept a disobedient sacrifice. 00:32:16.63\00:32:20.55 I do not accept worship on your terms. 00:32:20.76\00:32:22.92 I do not accept an offering that does not have blood 00:32:23.12\00:32:26.15 because without the shedding of blood there is no remission 00:32:26.35\00:32:28.66 of sin. " And now we find 00:32:28.76\00:32:32.64 that Cain becomes very angry. 00:32:32.84\00:32:35.88 Notice once again Genesis chapter 4. 00:32:36.18\00:32:38.44 Genesis chapter 4 00:32:38.84\00:32:40.68 and let's read verse 5 again. 00:32:40.98\00:32:44.18 "But He did not respect Cain and his offering. " 00:32:44.93\00:32:48.25 You know in the Hebrew... Hebrew is very descriptive. 00:32:55.54\00:32:57.66 When that says that his countenance fell 00:32:57.96\00:33:00.10 it says that he became "long faced. " 00:33:00.30\00:33:03.17 He started to pout. 00:33:04.18\00:33:06.16 He was angry. 00:33:07.10\00:33:08.26 He was angry at God 00:33:08.46\00:33:10.34 because God had accepted the worship of his brother 00:33:10.64\00:33:14.45 and He had not accepted his worship. 00:33:14.65\00:33:17.27 Now folks, I want to underline again the importance of this 00:33:17.57\00:33:20.64 story. Certain points that we need to keep in mind. 00:33:20.74\00:33:24.24 They were both brothers. 00:33:24.54\00:33:26.55 This is a conflict between brothers. 00:33:27.59\00:33:30.43 They were both religious. Yes or no? 00:33:31.35\00:33:34.90 They both worshiped. 00:33:35.23\00:33:37.68 They both raised an altar. 00:33:37.98\00:33:39.99 They both brought an offering. 00:33:40.39\00:33:42.46 They both claimed to worship the true God. 00:33:42.86\00:33:45.88 Where was the difference? 00:33:46.68\00:33:48.31 Blood, obedience, and worship 00:33:48.61\00:33:53.60 on God's terms. 00:33:53.90\00:33:56.35 Now notice Genesis 4:6-7. 00:33:56.69\00:33:59.25 God tries to reason with Cain. 00:33:59.45\00:34:01.41 It says in Genesis chapter 4 and verse 6: 00:34:02.45\00:34:04.94 See... there it is: "If you do well... " 00:34:14.51\00:34:16.07 In other words, "If you bring the sacrifice that I said. 00:34:16.37\00:34:18.84 If you obey Me; if you worship on My terms... " 00:34:19.04\00:34:21.80 In other words, sin is personified here. 00:34:36.05\00:34:37.87 This is the idea of a beast that is crouching, 00:34:38.17\00:34:41.21 ready to pounce on someone. 00:34:41.41\00:34:42.90 What the Lord is saying is that "If you do well 00:34:43.20\00:34:45.48 your offering will be accepted, 00:34:45.78\00:34:47.52 but if you don't sin is lying at the door 00:34:47.72\00:34:50.40 ready to pounce of you. " And so it says: 00:34:50.60\00:34:53.57 "Its desire is for you. " In other words, 00:34:53.78\00:34:56.08 sin desires to have you but you should rule over it. 00:34:56.18\00:35:01.03 You should have sovereignty over sin by doing good, 00:35:02.71\00:35:06.05 by obeying God and worshiping God on His terms. 00:35:06.25\00:35:09.08 Then we find in verse 8 00:35:09.39\00:35:12.17 the tragic climax of this story. It says: 00:35:12.37\00:35:15.10 It looks like they got into an argument. 00:35:17.80\00:35:19.96 We don't know exactly what they talked about 00:35:20.16\00:35:21.86 but it's not hard to imagine. 00:35:22.16\00:35:23.85 I can imagine Abel saying to Cain: "Cain, 00:35:24.16\00:35:26.80 you know what God has told us that we're supposed to bring. 00:35:27.10\00:35:30.38 You know that we're supposed to worship God on His terms. 00:35:31.40\00:35:33.91 You know that we're supposed to obey God. 00:35:34.31\00:35:36.49 If you brought the right sacrifice... " 00:35:38.11\00:35:39.79 See, he's using the same logic that God did. 00:35:39.99\00:35:41.53 "If you brought the same sacrifice, 00:35:41.63\00:35:43.48 your offering would be accepted just as well as mine. " 00:35:43.68\00:35:47.13 And what does this do with Cain? 00:35:47.53\00:35:49.39 It fills him with further fury. 00:35:49.79\00:35:52.56 He says: "Who are you, my little brother, to teach me? 00:35:52.86\00:35:56.03 I'm your older brother and you should do what I say. " 00:35:56.33\00:35:58.78 And Abel says: "I do what God says. " 00:35:59.08\00:36:01.15 And so it says in verse 8: 00:36:02.34\00:36:03.65 First Battle of Armageddon in history. 00:36:15.71\00:36:18.11 The false worshiper is killing the true worshiper. 00:36:20.35\00:36:23.30 The disobedient is killing the obedient. 00:36:24.35\00:36:27.80 The one who really and truly has accepted Jesus 00:36:29.96\00:36:33.50 is rising against he who claims to serve Jesus 00:36:34.69\00:36:39.19 but does not. 00:36:39.49\00:36:41.22 Are you catching a picture of what we have here? 00:36:41.52\00:36:44.30 The first Battle of Armageddon in history. 00:36:44.54\00:36:48.98 Now I want you to notice what we find in the following verses. 00:36:49.28\00:36:54.12 Verse 9: 00:36:54.33\00:36:55.40 "Then the Lord said to Cain: 'Where is Abel your brother? ' " 00:36:55.60\00:36:59.58 By the way, the word brother is used... in the first eleven 00:36:59.88\00:37:02.73 verses is used seven times. 00:37:02.83\00:37:04.84 I think God is trying to empha- size that they were brothers. 00:37:04.94\00:37:06.96 Is it just possible that the final war is going to be 00:37:07.79\00:37:09.84 among brothers? 00:37:09.94\00:37:11.07 People who claim to worship the same God? 00:37:12.17\00:37:16.32 People who go to church? 00:37:17.62\00:37:20.78 People who worship, but one group is characterized 00:37:21.28\00:37:25.53 by worship on God's terms and by obedience to God 00:37:25.73\00:37:29.07 and by truly receiving Jesus 00:37:29.37\00:37:31.15 while the others worship God on their terms 00:37:31.35\00:37:34.18 and thus disobey God? 00:37:34.58\00:37:36.78 And though they claim to receive Jesus they are truly 00:37:37.08\00:37:39.64 rejecting Him? 00:37:39.74\00:37:41.00 The final war is going to be among brothers. 00:37:41.30\00:37:43.40 You say: "How is this possible? " 00:37:43.70\00:37:44.98 Listen folks, this is the way it's been all throughout human 00:37:45.38\00:37:48.85 history. What makes you think that it's going to be any 00:37:48.95\00:37:51.64 different at the end? 00:37:51.75\00:37:52.97 You know, we usually as Christians think: "Oh yeah. 00:37:53.17\00:37:56.11 We need to be careful about the Arabs and the Muslims 00:37:56.32\00:37:59.32 and the Russians because they're going to be the ones that are 00:37:59.42\00:38:01.57 dangerous to us. " 00:38:01.67\00:38:02.98 Scripture does not corroborate that idea. 00:38:04.12\00:38:06.38 Scripture tells us that our greatest enemies 00:38:06.78\00:38:10.03 Jesus said will be those of our own household. 00:38:10.23\00:38:12.64 The greatest enemy of Abel was his brother! 00:38:14.68\00:38:17.24 The greatest enemy of the prophets in the Old Testament 00:38:18.38\00:38:20.99 were the very people that they were sent to: religious people. 00:38:21.39\00:38:25.50 Those that crucified Christ were religious people. 00:38:26.28\00:38:29.47 Those who persecuted God's people during the 1,260 years 00:38:30.48\00:38:34.15 was the church that claimed to follow Jesus Christ. 00:38:34.36\00:38:37.61 Of course, in the end time it's going to be different. 00:38:38.01\00:38:40.30 Our enemies at the end of time are going to be the Chinese 00:38:40.60\00:38:43.58 and the Russians. Now how spiritual is that? 00:38:43.68\00:38:46.28 Let me ask you: are there good and bad Russians? 00:38:47.63\00:38:50.14 Yes. Are there good and bad 00:38:50.27\00:38:52.38 US people? Yeah. 00:38:52.48\00:38:54.37 So if you say that the battle 00:38:54.57\00:38:55.66 is between Russia and China 00:38:55.76\00:38:57.27 and the United States, you're saying the battle is 00:38:57.48\00:38:59.57 the good bad against the good bad. 00:38:59.67\00:39:01.81 The fact is that the book of Revelation shows 00:39:03.55\00:39:06.25 that the final battle will be two different kinds of people 00:39:06.45\00:39:09.65 who claim to worship the true God. 00:39:09.85\00:39:12.30 One group worships on God's terms 00:39:12.70\00:39:15.34 and obeys God to the letter. 00:39:15.54\00:39:17.63 The other group disobeys God and worships 00:39:17.84\00:39:21.24 as they wish. 00:39:21.44\00:39:24.18 Now notice Genesis 4:9-10. 00:39:25.07\00:39:27.74 Genesis chapter 4 verses 9 and 10. 00:39:28.14\00:39:30.59 We're told here this: 00:39:30.99\00:39:34.32 "Then the Lord said to Cain: 'Where is Abel your brother? ' 00:39:37.01\00:39:40.65 He said: 'I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper? ' " 00:39:40.85\00:39:45.99 Is he repentant? 00:39:46.29\00:39:47.32 No... he is defiant. 00:39:48.01\00:39:49.55 Verse 10: 00:39:49.85\00:39:51.26 What was crying out? 00:40:01.88\00:40:04.29 The voice of his brother's what? 00:40:05.36\00:40:07.44 Of his blood. Was crying from where? 00:40:07.64\00:40:09.90 Was crying from the ground. 00:40:10.85\00:40:13.32 Now, notice Genesis 4:11 and then I'm going to explain 00:40:14.38\00:40:16.89 to you what this means. Genesis 4 and verse 11. 00:40:16.99\00:40:20.23 Let's add the testimony of that verse. 00:40:20.53\00:40:22.14 It says, God is speaking: "So now you are cursed 00:40:22.34\00:40:24.99 from the earth which has opened its mouth to receive 00:40:25.09\00:40:28.22 your brother's blood from your hand. " 00:40:28.33\00:40:31.64 What received the brother's blood? 00:40:31.84\00:40:33.64 The earth. By the way, this is an allusion 00:40:33.94\00:40:37.12 to the sanctuary service. 00:40:37.32\00:40:38.58 Do you know that when an animal was sacrificed 00:40:38.88\00:40:41.18 the blood was taken out of the animal 00:40:41.39\00:40:43.51 and it was poured on the ground next to the altar? 00:40:43.54\00:40:46.62 By the way, it was innocent blood 00:40:48.43\00:40:49.84 because the blood of the lamb represented the blood of Jesus. 00:40:49.94\00:40:53.43 It was poured out on the ground. 00:40:53.73\00:40:55.57 And in that sense, the ground was crying out for what? 00:40:55.77\00:40:59.14 Was crying out for justice. 00:40:59.44\00:41:01.28 By the way, when it says here that the blood of Abel is 00:41:01.58\00:41:04.22 crying out, we need to understand that blood doesn't 00:41:04.32\00:41:07.90 literally cry out. What's happening here? 00:41:08.00\00:41:11.22 What does that mean that the "blood of your brother 00:41:11.42\00:41:12.91 cries out? " It is crying out for what? 00:41:13.02\00:41:16.10 For justice. 00:41:16.40\00:41:18.28 By the way, that expression "crying out" is a legal term 00:41:18.58\00:41:21.48 in the Old Testament. 00:41:21.58\00:41:22.66 It refers to an individual who has been wronged 00:41:22.96\00:41:25.69 and who is crying out so that his case is righted by God. 00:41:25.99\00:41:31.29 Had a great injustice been performed here? 00:41:31.53\00:41:34.16 The true worshiper and the obedient one dies 00:41:34.46\00:41:37.34 and the false worshiper and the one who is disobedient 00:41:37.64\00:41:41.37 to God lives! Must justice be meted out? 00:41:41.47\00:41:44.94 Yes! That's why the blood is crying from the ground. 00:41:45.24\00:41:48.14 Because the blood has been spilt on the ground 00:41:48.24\00:41:50.11 and the blood of Abel is demanding justice 00:41:50.31\00:41:53.93 because an injustice has been committed. 00:41:54.23\00:41:56.36 And then I want you to notice what happens in Genesis 4:15. 00:41:56.76\00:42:01.03 This is where the story gets particularly interesting. 00:42:01.33\00:42:03.95 Genesis chapter 4 and verse 15. It says: 00:42:04.25\00:42:07.94 What was placed on Cain? A mark. 00:42:27.00\00:42:30.68 Was that a mark of preservation of life? 00:42:30.99\00:42:33.44 Yes it was! It says here it was a mark 00:42:34.58\00:42:37.40 to preserve his what? To preserve his life. 00:42:37.60\00:42:40.86 Now is there in the book of Revelation a mark that is placed 00:42:41.85\00:42:46.07 on the forehead and the hand which preserves life? 00:42:46.37\00:42:50.45 I'm not talking now from the perspective of God. 00:42:50.76\00:42:53.23 I'm talking from the perspective of man. 00:42:53.53\00:42:55.34 Let me ask you: what is going to happen with those - 00:42:55.64\00:42:57.99 humanly speaking - who refuse the mark of the beast? 00:42:58.19\00:43:01.53 It says in Revelation 13 that they will be what? 00:43:01.83\00:43:04.47 Killed! So what the beast is saying is: 00:43:04.67\00:43:07.86 "You receive the mark and your life will be... " What? 00:43:07.97\00:43:10.84 Your life will be spared. 00:43:11.14\00:43:13.07 And so we find in the story of Cain and Abel 00:43:13.37\00:43:16.31 a prefiguring of the mark of the beast... 00:43:16.61\00:43:19.80 the beast giving his mark to those who want their lives 00:43:20.10\00:43:24.06 preserved who don't want to die in the final crisis. 00:43:24.16\00:43:27.74 Of course, eventually the same is going to happen 00:43:27.94\00:43:30.07 with the wicked as happened with Cain. 00:43:30.17\00:43:31.95 Cain died a lost man, 00:43:32.25\00:43:34.32 and he will resurrect in what the Bible calls 00:43:35.35\00:43:37.38 the second resurrection to suffer second death. 00:43:37.69\00:43:41.70 In other words, his life was spared 00:43:42.71\00:43:44.51 only for a period of time. 00:43:44.71\00:43:46.50 Just as at the end of time those who have the mark of the 00:43:46.80\00:43:49.20 beast: their lives will be spared for a short period 00:43:49.30\00:43:52.50 of time. Now I'd like to make a brief application of this 00:43:52.60\00:43:57.56 story as we find it in the book of Revelation. 00:43:57.66\00:43:59.63 Listen, folks, the conflict in the book of Revelation 00:44:00.13\00:44:04.40 will be exactly the same as in Genesis with one difference. 00:44:05.13\00:44:08.77 And that is that in Genesis you have two individuals 00:44:09.17\00:44:13.87 that have different characters, different styles of worship, 00:44:14.07\00:44:17.78 one obedient and one disobedient. 00:44:18.09\00:44:20.12 The only difference with the end of time is that at the end of 00:44:20.32\00:44:23.03 time you are going to have two world-wide groups 00:44:23.13\00:44:26.90 who have the same characters as these two individuals 00:44:27.11\00:44:30.03 at the beginning of history. 00:44:30.13\00:44:31.34 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:44:31.84\00:44:33.23 In other words, these two characters will have 00:44:33.53\00:44:35.54 proliferated and filled the world 00:44:35.64\00:44:37.67 and you will have two different kinds of worshippers. 00:44:37.97\00:44:41.91 By the way, do you know that the controversy in the book of 00:44:42.42\00:44:44.68 Revelation is identical to the controversy in Genesis? 00:44:44.78\00:44:47.36 It's over the blood, it's over worship, 00:44:47.56\00:44:49.44 and it's over obedience. 00:44:49.64\00:44:50.92 You say: "How do you know that? " 00:44:51.92\00:44:53.17 Go with me to Revelation chapter 7 and verse 14. 00:44:53.37\00:44:55.96 Let's notice the blood first. 00:44:56.16\00:44:57.47 Those who are saved... What characterizes those who are 00:44:57.57\00:45:00.13 saved according to the book of Revelation? 00:45:00.24\00:45:01.79 It says in Revelation chapter 7 and verse 14 00:45:02.19\00:45:05.06 speaking about that great multi- tude which no man can number. 00:45:05.26\00:45:07.63 It says: "And I said to him: 00:45:07.93\00:45:09.45 'Sir, you know. ' So he said to me... " 00:45:09.65\00:45:12.00 Are God's true people going to have white garments made white 00:45:22.42\00:45:25.59 in the blood of the Lamb? Just like at the beginning 00:45:25.69\00:45:29.58 will the shame of their nakedness be covered 00:45:29.78\00:45:32.01 by the blood of Jesus? Yes! 00:45:32.21\00:45:34.57 But these people will be characterized by something else. 00:45:34.87\00:45:37.15 Not only because they accept the blood of Jesus 00:45:37.45\00:45:39.97 but accepting the blood of Jesus is manifested in obedience 00:45:40.28\00:45:44.20 and true worship. Notice Revelation chapter 14 00:45:44.40\00:45:48.42 verses 6 and 7... the first angel's message. 00:45:48.62\00:45:51.41 Revelation chapter 14 and verses 6 and 7. 00:45:51.54\00:45:54.51 It says: "Then I saw another angel flying in the midst 00:45:54.81\00:45:57.67 of heaven having the everlasting gospel 00:45:57.77\00:45:59.93 to preach to those who dwell on the earth. 00:46:00.13\00:46:02.16 To every nation, tribe, tongue, and people 00:46:02.36\00:46:04.91 saying with a loud voice 00:46:05.21\00:46:06.85 'Fear God and give glory to Him... ' " 00:46:07.06\00:46:09.31 Is this a world-wide message? It sure is. 00:46:09.41\00:46:12.55 "Fear God and give glory to Him for the hour of His judgment 00:46:12.78\00:46:16.98 has come. " And then what does it say? 00:46:17.18\00:46:19.22 "And worship Him who made heaven and earth, 00:46:19.42\00:46:22.81 the sea, and the springs of water. " 00:46:23.01\00:46:25.32 Will God have a people at the end of time 00:46:25.52\00:46:27.67 who listen to this call and worship the Creator? 00:46:27.87\00:46:31.85 Absolutely. And what is the sign of the Creator? 00:46:31.95\00:46:35.40 The sign of the Creator is what? 00:46:35.70\00:46:38.33 The Sabbath. 00:46:38.63\00:46:40.23 Do you see why this issue is important? 00:46:41.47\00:46:43.43 The whole Christian world with- out any Biblical authority... 00:46:43.83\00:46:46.97 I shouldn't say the whole Christian world... 00:46:47.27\00:46:49.32 most of the Christian world 00:46:49.52\00:46:50.76 without any authority - any divine authority - 00:46:50.96\00:46:53.59 they say: "It's OK to worship God on the first day 00:46:53.89\00:46:57.94 of the week. " Is that acceptable in the sight of God? 00:46:58.04\00:47:02.34 That's not any better than the worship of Cain. 00:47:02.54\00:47:05.44 You say: "Why not? " 00:47:05.64\00:47:06.67 For the simple reason that Cain worshiped God on his terms 00:47:06.94\00:47:10.20 and he disobeyed God's explicit instructions. 00:47:11.04\00:47:13.68 Is not keeping the Sabbath and worshiping on a different day 00:47:14.09\00:47:18.74 the same principle as what happened with Cain? 00:47:18.94\00:47:21.77 Absolutely! Because it's being disobedient to God 00:47:22.07\00:47:25.30 and it's worshiping God on our terms instead of 00:47:25.50\00:47:28.45 on the basis of the terms that God Himself has established. 00:47:28.55\00:47:32.60 And so Revelation calls for people to worship the Creator. 00:47:32.90\00:47:36.32 Revelation speaks about those who have made their garments 00:47:36.63\00:47:39.65 white in the blood of the Lamb. 00:47:39.75\00:47:41.10 They're like Abel. They have sacrificed an animal so to speak 00:47:41.30\00:47:43.96 and their lives have been 00:47:44.10\00:47:45.60 covered with the blood of Jesus. 00:47:45.70\00:47:47.09 But they also worship the Creator. 00:47:47.29\00:47:49.51 By the way, do they also 00:47:49.71\00:47:51.30 keep the commandments of God? 00:47:51.50\00:47:52.65 Notice Revelation chapter 12 and verse 17. 00:47:52.95\00:47:56.38 Revelation chapter 12 and verse 17. 00:47:56.68\00:47:59.64 It says: "And the dragon... " 00:47:59.94\00:48:01.02 By the way, the same four elements of Genesis 3:15. 00:48:01.23\00:48:03.64 We're kind of going quickly here. 00:48:03.94\00:48:05.45 But if you notice the story of Cain and Abel 00:48:05.65\00:48:07.51 the story of Cain and Abel is actually an amplification 00:48:07.61\00:48:10.24 of Genesis 3:15. 00:48:10.34\00:48:11.56 Because that story... Do you have enmity in the story 00:48:12.33\00:48:14.79 of Cain and Abel? Yes you do. 00:48:14.89\00:48:16.14 Do you have two seeds? Yes you do. 00:48:16.44\00:48:19.00 Do you have a woman? Yes. 00:48:19.13\00:48:20.95 Do you have a serpent? Cain was of the "wicked one" 00:48:21.15\00:48:25.10 it says in I John 3. 00:48:25.30\00:48:26.62 So do you have the same elements of Genesis 3:15 00:48:26.82\00:48:29.53 in the story of Cain and Abel? Absolutely. 00:48:29.73\00:48:32.15 Do we have the same elements in the final battle? 00:48:32.38\00:48:34.56 Of course. Now if the same elements are present in the 00:48:34.59\00:48:37.50 final battle, must this final battle 00:48:37.60\00:48:39.68 be like the original battle between Cain and Abel? 00:48:39.88\00:48:42.09 Absolutely. Notice Revelation 12:17. 00:48:42.39\00:48:45.02 "And the dragon was enraged with the woman... " 00:48:45.32\00:48:47.40 See, dragon... that's the serpent. 00:48:47.70\00:48:49.29 "With the woman... " There's the woman. 00:48:49.40\00:48:50.65 "He went to make war... " That's the enmity. 00:48:50.86\00:48:53.04 "With the remnant of her seed. " There you have the seed. 00:48:53.24\00:48:55.53 And what characteristic do they have? 00:48:55.73\00:48:57.41 They keep the commandments of God 00:48:57.71\00:49:00.54 and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. 00:49:00.84\00:49:03.35 Notice the end of the third angel's message. 00:49:03.75\00:49:05.89 Revelation chapter 14 and verse 12. 00:49:06.09\00:49:08.02 This is the last message that God gives to the world. 00:49:08.22\00:49:11.21 It says in Revelation 14 and verse 12: 00:49:11.24\00:49:14.61 "Here is the patience of the saints; 00:49:14.81\00:49:17.24 here are those who keep the commandments of God 00:49:17.44\00:49:20.75 and the faith of Jesus. " So much for the idea 00:49:20.85\00:49:23.70 that the commandments were nailed to the cross. 00:49:23.90\00:49:25.67 If they were nailed to the cross, why does Revelation say 00:49:25.87\00:49:28.42 that there's going to be a people who keep 'em? 00:49:28.52\00:49:30.03 You're not with me. 00:49:33.01\00:49:34.48 Why does Revelation condemn people who practice false 00:49:34.78\00:49:37.33 worship? Why is it wrong to worship the image to the beast? 00:49:37.43\00:49:42.51 That's idolatry. You say: "Because there's a commandment 00:49:43.59\00:49:45.79 that says thou shalt not make a graven image. " 00:49:45.90\00:49:47.48 "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me. " 00:49:48.58\00:49:50.16 So if that's true, then the com- mandments must still be binding. 00:49:51.13\00:49:54.14 They weren't nailed to the cross if the conflict at the end 00:49:54.34\00:49:56.29 of time has to do with worship and so on. 00:49:56.39\00:49:59.04 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:49:59.24\00:50:00.50 The trouble is - and I need to be frank here - 00:50:00.74\00:50:04.19 what Christians are willing to say is that God crucified 00:50:05.25\00:50:08.31 the Ten Commandments and then He uncrucified nine. 00:50:08.51\00:50:10.83 Or they'll say that Christ crucified one. 00:50:13.65\00:50:16.45 You see it's the Sabbath that people want to get rid of. 00:50:16.85\00:50:19.18 And it's because the devil hates the Sabbath. 00:50:19.58\00:50:21.94 In the Old Testament he led Israel to break the Sabbath 00:50:22.24\00:50:24.84 time and again. In the times of Christ 00:50:24.94\00:50:27.00 he twisted the meaning of the Sabbath. 00:50:27.10\00:50:28.94 The Pharisees disfigured the Sabbath. 00:50:29.24\00:50:31.49 At the end of time the conflict is going to be also 00:50:32.20\00:50:34.56 over the Sabbath because the devil hates the Sabbath 00:50:34.66\00:50:37.04 because the Sabbath points to the fact that there's only one 00:50:37.34\00:50:39.93 true God: the Creator of the heavens and the earth. 00:50:40.03\00:50:42.65 And if people keep the Sabbath the devil can have nothing 00:50:42.85\00:50:45.35 to do with them because they're recognizing that there's only 00:50:45.45\00:50:48.71 one true God. Raise your hand if you understand what I'm saying. 00:50:48.81\00:50:52.51 It's an issue of whose authority you accept. 00:50:53.47\00:50:56.19 Now... let's go to Revelation 6. 00:50:57.30\00:51:00.81 This is going to get even more interesting. 00:51:01.71\00:51:03.57 Revelation 6. Remember the blood of Abel crying out? 00:51:04.69\00:51:08.06 Is that going to happen at the end of time also? 00:51:09.36\00:51:11.86 Did that happen during the 1,260 years? 00:51:12.16\00:51:14.04 Did a lot of people during the 1,260 years 00:51:14.44\00:51:17.17 die unjustly? 00:51:17.37\00:51:18.80 What did the little horn do? He persecuted whom? 00:51:19.00\00:51:21.32 The saints of the Most High. 00:51:21.52\00:51:22.79 The woman was persecuted in the wilderness. 00:51:23.19\00:51:25.42 Many of them were killed. Was there any justice in that? 00:51:25.72\00:51:28.35 No. How about the martyrs who will die near the end of time 00:51:29.41\00:51:32.10 before probation closes? 00:51:32.96\00:51:34.63 Is there any justice in that? Absolutely not. 00:51:34.93\00:51:37.90 And I want you to notice what happens as a result. 00:51:38.14\00:51:40.26 Revelation chapter 6 and verse 9. 00:51:40.66\00:51:42.74 This is the fifth seal. I wish we had the time 00:51:42.85\00:51:44.55 to study the specific context but let's notice. It says: 00:51:44.65\00:51:47.96 "When he opened the fifth seal I saw under the altar 00:51:48.16\00:51:50.40 the souls of those who have been slain 00:51:50.50\00:51:53.56 for the Word of God and for the testimony which they held. " 00:51:53.77\00:51:56.08 Some people say: "See, the souls are under the altar. " 00:51:56.28\00:51:58.24 Well, this problem can be resolved very easily. 00:51:58.54\00:52:00.81 You see the word soul, as we studied in one of our previous 00:52:01.21\00:52:04.09 lectures, is really... It says in Leviticus 17:14 00:52:04.19\00:52:08.03 that the nefesh of man is his blood. " 00:52:08.33\00:52:11.32 The word nefesh is translated many many times in the 00:52:11.52\00:52:14.01 Old Testament: soul. 00:52:14.12\00:52:15.65 In other words, the soul of man is his blood. 00:52:15.85\00:52:17.98 What it means is that the life of man is his blood. 00:52:19.08\00:52:22.00 So these souls that are crying out under the altar 00:52:22.31\00:52:25.16 they are the blood that was shed, they are the life 00:52:25.46\00:52:29.47 of these individuals that are crying out to God. 00:52:29.67\00:52:31.72 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:52:31.92\00:52:32.98 Don't put into the text immortal souls that are in heaven. 00:52:33.28\00:52:37.21 You know, people like to add to the text. 00:52:37.45\00:52:39.07 The text does not say that. 00:52:39.30\00:52:41.01 Now notice: they're under the altar. 00:52:41.31\00:52:43.66 Remember the blood that was poured next to the altar? 00:52:43.86\00:52:45.52 And then notice verse 10: 00:52:45.92\00:52:47.51 "And they cried with a loud voice saying: 00:52:47.72\00:52:50.67 'How long, O Lord, holy and true, 00:52:50.98\00:52:54.03 until You judge and avenge... ' What? 00:52:54.23\00:52:56.72 'our blood on those who dwell on the earth? ' " 00:52:56.92\00:52:59.35 Are they crying out for the same thing that Abel's blood 00:52:59.65\00:53:02.56 cried out for? Absolutely! 00:53:02.66\00:53:04.29 And by the way, there's two groups of martyrs. 00:53:04.49\00:53:06.13 These that are crying out are the ones who died 00:53:06.23\00:53:08.23 during the 1,260 years. 00:53:08.33\00:53:09.55 But there's going to be another group of martyrs. 00:53:09.75\00:53:11.28 Notice verse 11. It says: 00:53:11.38\00:53:13.17 "Then a white robe was given to each of them. " 00:53:13.37\00:53:16.16 Isn't that interesting? 00:53:16.36\00:53:17.39 They died overcomers. A white robe is given to each 00:53:17.56\00:53:20.46 of them. "And it was said to them 00:53:20.56\00:53:23.22 that they should rest a little while longer. " 00:53:23.42\00:53:26.29 Well I guess if they're resting then they must not be alive 00:53:26.32\00:53:29.65 under the altar. 00:53:29.75\00:53:32.57 What's crying out is their blood! 00:53:32.77\00:53:34.29 And so it says that they should rest a little while longer. 00:53:35.45\00:53:38.09 And now notice: "until both the number 00:53:38.29\00:53:41.11 of their fellow servants and their brethren 00:53:41.21\00:53:43.37 who would be killed as they were was completed. " 00:53:43.57\00:53:46.75 Is there going to be another group of martyrs that are 00:53:47.05\00:53:48.83 going to be killed? Yes. And do you know why? 00:53:48.93\00:53:51.21 Because the beast has two stages of existence. 00:53:51.41\00:53:54.00 He killed during the 1,260 years 00:53:55.01\00:53:57.47 but his deadly wound is going to be healed 00:53:57.67\00:53:59.29 and he is going to kill again. 00:53:59.49\00:54:01.17 Are you with me or are you not with me? 00:54:02.37\00:54:04.60 By the way, who are the powers that are going to try and 00:54:04.90\00:54:07.09 destroy God's people at the end time? 00:54:07.19\00:54:08.55 This is the amazing thing. 00:54:09.53\00:54:10.60 The beast represents the Roman Catholic papacy. 00:54:10.81\00:54:13.41 The false prophet represents Protestantism 00:54:14.70\00:54:17.86 as it's found in the United States of America. 00:54:18.06\00:54:20.39 You say: "How is it possible 00:54:20.79\00:54:22.24 that you could say such a thing? " 00:54:22.45\00:54:24.05 Well Abel and Cain were brothers. 00:54:24.88\00:54:27.28 And that's exactly what's going to happen at the end of time: 00:54:28.46\00:54:30.85 two kinds of worshipers... 00:54:31.15\00:54:32.86 obedient and disobedient. 00:54:33.81\00:54:35.62 Both are going to come before God. 00:54:36.68\00:54:39.41 Both attend church. 00:54:39.71\00:54:41.40 But one group are like Abel. 00:54:41.80\00:54:44.27 They follow the worship of God to the letter. 00:54:44.57\00:54:46.64 They obey God and they truly receive Jesus 00:54:46.94\00:54:50.41 as their Savior and as their Lord. 00:54:50.71\00:54:53.01 Is there going to be a mark of protection 00:54:54.35\00:54:56.34 that is placed on those who follow the beast? 00:54:56.64\00:55:00.44 The ones who have the character like Cain? 00:55:01.71\00:55:03.65 Yes. Is it a sign of preservation? 00:55:03.95\00:55:06.27 Is it a mark of preservation? Yes it is. 00:55:06.47\00:55:08.63 See, the beast and his image will say: 'Hey, folks, 00:55:09.46\00:55:11.58 you know, as long as you follow us, 00:55:11.78\00:55:14.34 as long as you worship the way we say, 00:55:15.58\00:55:18.35 as long as you obey our commands, 00:55:18.38\00:55:20.47 your life is going to be preserved. 00:55:20.77\00:55:23.50 Nobody will be able to kill you. " 00:55:23.80\00:55:25.72 But as Cain ultimately died and he will resurrect 00:55:25.93\00:55:29.51 and will be outside the Holy City, 00:55:29.71\00:55:31.03 so will be also with those who are not faithful to God. 00:55:31.23\00:55:36.36 Now do you understand what the issues are 00:55:37.55\00:55:39.14 in Revelation 16 verse 15? 00:55:39.34\00:55:40.88 Jesus said: "Behold I come as a thief. 00:55:41.94\00:55:44.01 Blessed is he that watches 00:55:45.20\00:55:48.44 and keeps his garments 00:55:49.20\00:55:51.27 lest he be found naked and they see his shame. " 00:55:51.57\00:55:54.40 You see, the issue at the end of 00:55:56.12\00:55:57.28 time is the same issue 00:55:57.38\00:55:58.81 as existed at the beginning 00:55:58.91\00:56:00.17 of time: whether you receive 00:56:00.37\00:56:02.21 the blood of Jesus, whether you are obedient to Jesus, 00:56:02.31\00:56:06.02 and whether you worship the way Jesus has commanded 00:56:06.22\00:56:09.30 that we're supposed to worship. 00:56:09.50\00:56:10.81 By the way, our final text - Matthew chapter 7- 00:56:11.11\00:56:15.04 speaks about the two kinds of Christians in the end time. 00:56:15.34\00:56:18.48 And I pray to God that we'll be the right type of Christians. 00:56:18.88\00:56:22.02 Jesus spoke in Matthew chapter 7 and verses 21-23 00:56:22.32\00:56:27.73 the following words. He says: 00:56:27.93\00:56:30.28 Are there going to be two kinds of Christians in the end time? 00:57:05.67\00:57:08.39 Yes. What type of Christian are you going to be? 00:57:09.10\00:57:12.16 The kind that worships God the way God has specified? 00:57:13.66\00:57:15.90 Those who obey God and who truly receive Jesus 00:57:16.10\00:57:19.00 or otherwise? I pray to God that you will be the right kind. 00:57:19.40\00:57:23.66
