Shall we bow our heads for prayer? 00:01:12.78\00:01:14.06 Our loving Father, we thank you so much 00:01:16.00\00:01:20.73 for Your Word, which is a sure guide in a world of confusion 00:01:21.23\00:01:27.22 and rebellion. We ask for the guidance of Your Holy Spirit 00:01:27.42\00:01:31.40 as we study that great prophecy of Revelation 12. 00:01:31.70\00:01:35.88 We ask that You will teach us and give us understanding 00:01:36.89\00:01:40.18 that we might be willing to follow Your will. 00:01:40.48\00:01:43.66 We thank you, Lord, for hearing our prayer. 00:01:44.06\00:01:46.14 For we ask it in Jesus' name, Amen. 00:01:46.34\00:01:49.81 We want to begin our study today by reviewing 00:01:51.04\00:01:54.99 what we studied in our last 00:01:55.19\00:01:57.03 lecture. If you remember, 00:01:57.13\00:01:59.27 we studied the prophecy 00:01:59.47\00:02:00.81 of Daniel chapter 2. 00:02:00.91\00:02:02.94 You remember that king Nebuchadnezzar had this dream 00:02:02.98\00:02:06.76 and in the dream he saw a gigantic image. 00:02:07.16\00:02:11.01 The head of the image was of gold. 00:02:11.21\00:02:13.55 The breast and the arms were of silver. 00:02:13.86\00:02:17.37 The belly was of bronze. 00:02:17.71\00:02:19.56 The legs were of iron, and the feet were of iron and clay. 00:02:19.76\00:02:24.70 And then Nebuchadnezzar saw a gigantic stone 00:02:25.82\00:02:30.39 come from heaven and smite the image on its feet 00:02:30.59\00:02:35.08 and broke the image into smithereens. 00:02:35.58\00:02:39.46 And then that stone became a mountain 00:02:39.76\00:02:43.23 which filled the whole earth. 00:02:43.44\00:02:45.44 Now I'm going to review the sequence of nations 00:02:45.84\00:02:49.55 which are mentioned in Daniel chapter 2. 00:02:49.75\00:02:51.93 The head of gold represents the kingdom of Babylon 00:02:52.33\00:02:55.90 which governed from the year 605 BC 00:02:56.00\00:02:59.28 till the year 539 BC. 00:02:59.48\00:03:02.68 The breast and arms of silver represent the kingdom 00:03:03.18\00:03:06.90 of Medo-Persia which governed from 539 BC to 331 BC. 00:03:07.10\00:03:13.02 The belly of bronze represents the kingdom of Greece 00:03:13.86\00:03:19.21 which ruled from the year 331 BC till the year 168 BC. 00:03:19.52\00:03:25.51 The fourth kingdom of iron represented by the legs 00:03:25.85\00:03:29.62 represents the iron monarchy of Rome. 00:03:29.82\00:03:33.23 In other words, the Roman Empire. 00:03:33.53\00:03:35.39 And of course the feet of iron and clay, ten toes, 00:03:35.69\00:03:40.44 represent the divisions of Western Europe. 00:03:40.68\00:03:44.58 But you'll notice that the divisions of Western Europe 00:03:44.88\00:03:47.81 are a continuation of Rome because the feet have iron 00:03:47.91\00:03:52.35 just like the legs have iron 00:03:52.55\00:03:54.23 but this is a different kind of Rome. 00:03:54.43\00:03:57.17 It is a continuation of Rome because it's the same iron 00:03:57.47\00:04:00.58 as the legs, but it is a different kind of Rome 00:04:00.68\00:04:03.74 because it is a mixed Rome. 00:04:03.94\00:04:06.13 And we studied in our last lecture that the clay 00:04:06.33\00:04:09.34 represents the church. In other words, after the 00:04:09.54\00:04:11.97 Roman Empire was split up you had a period 00:04:12.07\00:04:15.64 where church and state were joined together. 00:04:15.74\00:04:18.59 And actually, that condition lasts until 00:04:18.80\00:04:21.95 the second coming of Jesus Christ. 00:04:22.15\00:04:24.49 Now the kingdom that we're especially going to focus on 00:04:24.79\00:04:28.57 on our study today is the fourth kingdom of Daniel chapter 2. 00:04:28.77\00:04:33.81 We're going to be quite a bit of time in the image 00:04:34.11\00:04:39.73 the portion that has to do with the legs of iron. 00:04:40.03\00:04:43.97 Now we need to look at some background 00:04:44.37\00:04:47.47 before we actually get into the study of Revelation chapter 12. 00:04:47.58\00:04:51.86 Go with me once again to Genesis chapter 3 00:04:52.56\00:04:55.73 and verse 15... that verse which has guided us 00:04:55.84\00:04:58.84 in the study in this seminar. 00:04:59.04\00:05:01.79 Genesis chapter 3 and verse 15. 00:05:01.99\00:05:05.40 Very well-known verse. 00:05:05.80\00:05:07.71 God is speaking to the serpent, and He says: 00:05:08.02\00:05:10.67 Four key elements in this verse. 00:05:28.54\00:05:30.76 Number one: enmity. 00:05:31.07\00:05:33.37 Number two: a serpent. 00:05:33.57\00:05:35.84 Number three: a woman. 00:05:36.14\00:05:38.17 And number four: seed. 00:05:38.47\00:05:41.06 Now we're going to find that this verse is in the background 00:05:41.37\00:05:45.24 of Revelation chapter 12. 00:05:45.44\00:05:47.17 I want you to notice that in Genesis 3:15 00:05:47.47\00:05:50.42 though there is warfare between the woman and the serpent 00:05:50.72\00:05:54.39 the real warfare is between the Seed of the woman 00:05:54.69\00:05:58.62 and the serpent. Because the last part of the verse says 00:05:58.82\00:06:01.68 "He... " the Seed of the woman... 00:06:01.88\00:06:03.48 "will bruise your head... " That is, the head of the serpent... 00:06:03.68\00:06:06.79 "and the serpent will bruise His heel. " 00:06:06.99\00:06:09.71 The war is between the Seed of the woman and the serpent 00:06:10.01\00:06:13.23 even though there is also warfare between the serpent 00:06:13.53\00:06:16.77 and the woman. 00:06:16.97\00:06:18.74 Now we've also studied in our seminar that the devil 00:06:19.04\00:06:22.11 tried to keep Jesus from coming 00:06:22.31\00:06:24.87 all throughout the Old Testament. 00:06:25.07\00:06:26.68 We had a whole lecture on all of the episodes of the 00:06:26.98\00:06:29.88 Old Testament which illustrate how Satan tried to keep the Seed 00:06:29.98\00:06:34.28 from coming. He did it by trying to kill the Seed 00:06:34.48\00:06:37.92 and then he also did it by trying to corrupt the holy line 00:06:38.22\00:06:43.25 from which the Seed would come. 00:06:43.45\00:06:45.60 But folks, the devil was not able to interrupt the plans 00:06:46.23\00:06:51.17 of God. In the fullness of time 00:06:51.37\00:06:54.72 Jesus came to this world exactly the way God had prophesied 00:06:54.92\00:07:00.20 in Genesis chapter 3 and verse 15. 00:07:00.50\00:07:03.46 Now there's one more thing that I want to notice 00:07:04.34\00:07:06.82 by means of introduction before we get into 00:07:07.03\00:07:09.90 a specific study of Revelation 12, 00:07:10.00\00:07:12.55 and that is that this chapter has three distinct stages. 00:07:12.75\00:07:18.23 The first stage is found in Revelation 12 00:07:19.22\00:07:22.51 and verses 1 through 5. 00:07:22.71\00:07:25.08 And that is the stage where the dragon tries to kill 00:07:25.58\00:07:30.31 the Seed of the woman. 00:07:30.34\00:07:32.63 By the way, that's clearly a reference to Genesis 3:15... 00:07:32.93\00:07:37.39 the dragon trying to kill the Seed that is born of the woman. 00:07:37.89\00:07:41.58 That's the first stage. 00:07:41.78\00:07:43.14 The second stage is found in Revelation 12 and verse 6 00:07:43.44\00:07:47.46 and also verses 13 through 15. 00:07:47.66\00:07:50.64 In this stage the Child has already escaped the grasp 00:07:51.15\00:07:55.65 of the serpent or the grasp of the dragon 00:07:55.85\00:07:58.07 and so the dragon now goes after the woman. 00:07:58.37\00:08:01.46 And the woman flees to the wilderness where she has her 00:08:01.76\00:08:05.25 place prepared for 1,260 days or years. 00:08:05.45\00:08:10.46 The third stage in this chapter 00:08:11.27\00:08:13.61 is the final warfare of the dragon against the seed 00:08:13.81\00:08:17.96 of the Seed... "the remnant of her seed" 00:08:18.06\00:08:21.52 as it says in Revelation 12 and verse 17. 00:08:21.82\00:08:24.42 And so we find three distinct stages 00:08:25.38\00:08:28.09 of warfare in Revelation chapter 12. 00:08:28.30\00:08:31.35 First: the devil against the Seed. 00:08:31.55\00:08:35.88 Secondly: the devil or the serpent against the woman. 00:08:36.18\00:08:39.72 Third: the warfare of Satan against the remnant of the 00:08:40.22\00:08:44.89 woman's seed. And of course, the woman's seed is Jesus. 00:08:44.99\00:08:48.17 So the remnant of the woman's seed would be the remnant 00:08:48.37\00:08:51.37 of Jesus. Three distinct stages. 00:08:51.57\00:08:54.47 I want you to remember these stages because we're going to 00:08:54.67\00:08:57.12 come back to them later on. 00:08:57.22\00:08:59.13 What I want you to notice is that in all of these 3 stages 00:08:59.43\00:09:04.59 it is the serpent or the dragon who is the perpetrator 00:09:04.79\00:09:10.25 of the events that are taking place. 00:09:10.45\00:09:12.22 Now he uses human instruments 00:09:12.42\00:09:14.33 but really, he is the force behind. 00:09:14.53\00:09:17.70 He's the one who tries to kill the Child. 00:09:17.90\00:09:19.71 He's the one who persecutes the woman. 00:09:19.91\00:09:22.00 And he is the one who launches the final onslaught 00:09:22.21\00:09:26.13 of warfare against the remnant of the woman's seed. 00:09:26.33\00:09:29.53 Now we want to examine another Old Testament story 00:09:30.43\00:09:33.95 which forms the backdrop specifically to the prophecy 00:09:34.15\00:09:38.73 of Revelation chapter 12. 00:09:38.83\00:09:40.54 I am referring to the story of the exodus of Israel 00:09:41.04\00:09:45.42 from Egypt. Now you say: "What possible relationship 00:09:45.62\00:09:49.05 could there be between Revelation chapter 12 00:09:49.25\00:09:52.82 and the exodus of Israel from Egypt? " 00:09:53.02\00:09:55.35 Well, I believe that as we move along in studying the 00:09:55.65\00:09:59.76 exodus of Israel we're going to begin to see 00:09:59.87\00:10:02.92 some interesting parallels to Revelation chapter 12. 00:10:03.12\00:10:05.92 Now time does not allow us 00:10:06.23\00:10:08.81 to read all of the verses which describe the exodus 00:10:09.11\00:10:13.53 of Israel from Egypt. 00:10:13.73\00:10:15.21 In the handout that you will receive after the lecture today 00:10:15.61\00:10:19.53 you have all of the scripture references with explanations 00:10:19.73\00:10:23.81 about all that I'm going to share. 00:10:24.01\00:10:25.65 For now, what I want is for you to catch the picture 00:10:25.85\00:10:29.32 or the idea of what happened at the exodus so that 00:10:29.53\00:10:34.31 when we go to Revelation chapter 12 you're able to see 00:10:34.51\00:10:37.59 this backdrop. Now, Exodus chapter 1, I'm going to mention 00:10:37.69\00:10:41.91 the verses. Exodus chapter 1 verses 13 and 14 00:10:42.01\00:10:45.41 explains that Israel was in cruel 00:10:45.61\00:10:50.46 and despotic bondage. 00:10:50.66\00:10:53.51 They had no way of escaping themselves. 00:10:53.81\00:10:56.52 They were slaves. They had to serve Pharaoh 00:10:56.72\00:11:00.50 day after day after day. 00:11:00.70\00:11:02.49 In fact, there in Exodus 1:13 and 14 00:11:02.70\00:11:05.38 it uses the word "bitter" to describe their bondage. 00:11:05.58\00:11:09.71 And so Exodus chapter 2 and verses 23 and 25 00:11:09.91\00:11:13.66 we find that the people are moaning and groaning 00:11:13.86\00:11:18.05 and crying out 00:11:18.25\00:11:19.83 because they want a deliverer 00:11:19.93\00:11:22.01 to be born to lead them 00:11:22.11\00:11:24.36 out from bondage. 00:11:24.40\00:11:26.07 Because they know that they cannot deliver themselves 00:11:26.37\00:11:28.70 because they are slaves. 00:11:28.90\00:11:30.24 And it's interesting to notice in that passage in 00:11:30.54\00:11:32.68 Exodus 2:23-25 that they're crying out. 00:11:32.78\00:11:37.28 I want you to remember that word: "they're crying out. " 00:11:37.48\00:11:39.48 They're groaning because they want someone to deliver them 00:11:39.68\00:11:42.95 from bondage. Well, it just so happens 00:11:43.15\00:11:46.98 that a deliverer was born in Egypt. 00:11:47.18\00:11:50.75 He was born of a woman. I want you to remember that. 00:11:50.98\00:11:54.22 The name of the woman was Jochebed, his mother. 00:11:54.42\00:11:58.82 And so we find here a child, a man child, 00:11:59.06\00:12:03.69 who is going to be born of a woman 00:12:03.89\00:12:06.97 and he is going to be the deliverer of Israel 00:12:07.17\00:12:11.54 from bondage when they are crying out to God 00:12:11.74\00:12:14.94 for deliverance. But there was one who did not want this child 00:12:15.21\00:12:20.27 to survive. He felt threatened by his existence 00:12:20.47\00:12:24.52 or by his potential existence. 00:12:24.73\00:12:26.84 And of course the name of that individual was Pharaoh. 00:12:27.24\00:12:31.42 Now do you know that in the book of Ezekiel 00:12:31.82\00:12:34.88 chapter 29 and verse 3 Pharaoh - and by the way, 00:12:35.08\00:12:40.03 this is in the King James version - 00:12:40.23\00:12:42.04 Pharaoh is called "the great dragon. " 00:12:42.34\00:12:46.62 I want you to remember that: Pharaoh is called "the great 00:12:46.82\00:12:49.08 dragon. " The New King James says: "the great monster. " 00:12:49.18\00:12:52.91 You know, if you read the Greek translation of the 00:12:53.21\00:12:55.46 Old Testament you'll find that the word there is the word 00:12:55.56\00:12:58.56 drákôn. And so we're dealing not with a monster 00:12:58.76\00:13:03.48 as such, we are dealing with a dragon. 00:13:03.68\00:13:06.48 So Pharaoh is called "the great dragon. " 00:13:06.68\00:13:10.38 And the Bible says that Pharaoh stands next to the woman 00:13:11.41\00:13:15.32 so to speak to devour this child, 00:13:15.52\00:13:18.77 this deliverer, as soon as he is born. 00:13:19.07\00:13:23.24 Have you read this story? 00:13:24.39\00:13:26.14 Are you starting to catch an interesting picture here? 00:13:26.44\00:13:29.39 This is really the backdrop of Revelation chapter 12. 00:13:29.59\00:13:33.34 Now, it's interesting to notice how Pharaoh tried to get rid 00:13:34.04\00:13:39.98 of the deliverer. 00:13:40.09\00:13:41.26 In Exodus chapter 1 and verse 22 00:13:41.56\00:13:44.50 it says that Pharaoh had all of the male children 00:13:44.70\00:13:49.73 thrown into the Nile River. 00:13:51.33\00:13:53.68 In other words, he had all of the male children killed 00:13:53.98\00:13:57.61 in the hopes of also killing the deliverer. 00:13:57.91\00:14:02.06 Now I must make a parentheses here 00:14:02.75\00:14:04.68 and explain to you that the devil had a greater agenda 00:14:05.47\00:14:08.84 here than just slaying Moses. 00:14:08.95\00:14:13.02 Did you know that approximately 400 years before this 00:14:13.98\00:14:18.13 God had given a prophecy to Abraham? 00:14:18.33\00:14:21.25 It's found in Genesis chapter 15 and verses 13 through 15. 00:14:21.65\00:14:25.43 And in that prophecy God had told Abraham 00:14:25.73\00:14:29.50 that the children of Israel were going to be sojourners 00:14:29.70\00:14:33.16 in the land of Egypt for 400 years 00:14:33.19\00:14:37.74 but that after the 400 years God was going to deliver them 00:14:38.04\00:14:43.25 from Egypt and He was going to take them to Canaan. 00:14:43.45\00:14:46.50 Do you think the devil carefully calculated 00:14:48.41\00:14:52.40 when the 400 years began and when the 400 years ended? 00:14:52.60\00:14:57.15 Of course he did! 00:14:57.35\00:14:58.75 The devil did not want Israel to be delivered from bondage 00:14:58.95\00:15:02.91 because he knew that if Israel went to Canaan 00:15:03.11\00:15:05.93 in Canaan the Messiah would be born. 00:15:06.14\00:15:09.27 And so he says: "I'm going to nip this in the bud. 00:15:09.67\00:15:12.04 I am going to kill the deliverer so that Israel cannot leave 00:15:12.24\00:15:15.52 Egypt and cannot enter Canaan, and that way the deliverer 00:15:15.62\00:15:19.10 will not be born. " And folks, it is no coincidence 00:15:19.30\00:15:21.90 that the Canaanites fought tooth and nail for the Promised Land. 00:15:22.10\00:15:27.64 This was not only their attitude, it was Satan 00:15:27.94\00:15:31.79 inspiring them to resist Israel entering the Promised Land. 00:15:31.99\00:15:36.38 Because the devil knew that in that place 00:15:36.58\00:15:39.64 the Messiah was going to be born. 00:15:39.85\00:15:41.48 And he knew it because God had taken Abraham out of Ur of the 00:15:41.69\00:15:45.17 Chaldees. And He took him to Haran and then He took him 00:15:45.27\00:15:48.38 to the Promised Land. And so the devil says 00:15:48.58\00:15:50.93 "I cannot allow a deliverer to exist. I must kill him. 00:15:51.13\00:15:56.07 I must nip this in the bud and that way Israel 00:15:56.17\00:15:59.33 will remain in bondage. " 00:15:59.53\00:16:01.76 But it's interesting that Moses was preserved in Egypt. 00:16:02.16\00:16:08.07 His life was spared. He was protected 00:16:08.50\00:16:11.22 in the land of Egypt. 00:16:11.42\00:16:13.04 And of course we are told in Exodus that he became 00:16:13.44\00:16:16.69 the great deliverer of the children of Israel. 00:16:16.89\00:16:20.40 In fact, the night that Israel was delivered I want you to 00:16:20.70\00:16:24.61 notice. This is very interesting. 00:16:24.71\00:16:25.98 The night that Israel was deliverer God told them 00:16:26.18\00:16:30.18 as a sign of their deliverance 00:16:30.48\00:16:32.73 to sacrifice a lamb without blemish. 00:16:32.83\00:16:36.58 In other words, the sign of their deliverance 00:16:36.88\00:16:39.40 was the death of a perfect lamb. 00:16:39.60\00:16:42.31 And when they sacrificed that lamb 00:16:42.51\00:16:44.68 they were delivered from bondage to the literal Egyptians. 00:16:44.88\00:16:49.34 Now, there's much more that we need to say. 00:16:49.74\00:16:53.31 Before Israel entered the Promised Land 00:16:53.51\00:16:57.20 Moses, the deliverer, died on the borders of Canaan. 00:16:57.40\00:17:02.73 The story of his death is found in Deuteronomy chapter 34. 00:17:04.74\00:17:08.76 And I'm not going to go there; I just want to mention 00:17:08.96\00:17:10.89 the verses: Deuteronomy 34:5-6. 00:17:10.99\00:17:13.38 There are two strange things about the death of Moses. 00:17:13.58\00:17:17.21 Number one: we are told in Deuteronomy 34 00:17:17.61\00:17:21.24 that God buried Moses. 00:17:21.44\00:17:24.06 He's the only person in the Bible that God ever buried! 00:17:24.36\00:17:26.69 We don't know of anyone else who God buried... 00:17:26.99\00:17:29.30 not even Jesus. 00:17:29.60\00:17:31.42 Jesus wasn't buried by His Father. 00:17:31.72\00:17:33.36 But Moses was buried by God. 00:17:33.39\00:17:36.10 And another interesting detail which is very strange 00:17:36.30\00:17:38.59 is the fact that it says there in Deuteronomy 34 00:17:38.79\00:17:42.02 that no one knew where his tomb was till that day. 00:17:42.22\00:17:47.35 Very unusual because the Jews marked the tombs 00:17:47.59\00:17:50.86 of their heroes. They knew exactly where Abraham was 00:17:51.06\00:17:54.74 buried in the Cave of Machpelah. 00:17:54.84\00:17:56.37 They knew where David was buried in Jerusalem 00:17:56.57\00:17:59.96 and also probably where Daniel the prophet was buried 00:18:00.09\00:18:02.48 because an inscription has been found that says: "Here lies 00:18:02.68\00:18:05.63 Daniel the prophet" recently. His body wasn't found 00:18:05.83\00:18:09.06 but the inscription says that Daniel was buried there. 00:18:09.26\00:18:11.49 The Jew marked the tombs of their heroes. 00:18:11.69\00:18:14.64 But with Moses? God buried him 00:18:14.84\00:18:16.80 and nobody knew where his tomb was. 00:18:17.00\00:18:19.53 Do you know what happened when Moses died 00:18:20.46\00:18:22.63 according to scripture? 00:18:22.83\00:18:24.04 He died, he was buried, 00:18:24.34\00:18:28.03 and when he was buried we are told in the book of Jude 00:18:29.35\00:18:33.38 verse 9... I only mention the verse 00:18:33.68\00:18:36.78 because Jude only has one chapter... 00:18:36.88\00:18:38.43 Jude verse 9, that there was a battle at the gravesite 00:18:38.63\00:18:43.37 of Moses. It says there that Michael the Archangel 00:18:43.47\00:18:48.18 fought with Satan over the body of Moses. 00:18:48.68\00:18:54.64 Now do you think they were fighting for dead corpse? 00:18:55.04\00:18:58.66 Do you think that every time a person dies 00:18:59.06\00:19:01.60 Michael the Archangel and the devil fight over a dead body? 00:19:02.00\00:19:06.32 Obviously not. 00:19:06.72\00:19:07.98 By the way, that individual - Michael, 00:19:08.28\00:19:11.36 the Archangel - was none less than Jesus Christ Himself. 00:19:11.56\00:19:15.60 Now let me explain that the Bible does not teach 00:19:16.00\00:19:19.34 that Michael the Archangel was the first creature of God 00:19:19.55\00:19:22.88 like some churches teach. 00:19:23.08\00:19:24.52 We believe that Michael the Archangel is Christ, 00:19:24.72\00:19:28.38 but Christ is everlasting God. 00:19:28.68\00:19:31.55 He never had a beginning. 00:19:31.75\00:19:33.32 He is the great angel of the resurrection... 00:19:33.52\00:19:36.46 the great messenger of the resurrection. 00:19:36.66\00:19:38.79 That's the reason why in I Thessalonians chapter 4 00:19:38.89\00:19:41.57 we are told that the Lord will descend with a shout. 00:19:41.77\00:19:44.34 "The Lord Himself will descend with a shout, 00:19:44.64\00:19:47.07 with the voice of the Archangel 00:19:47.27\00:19:49.21 and with the trumpet of God. " 00:19:49.41\00:19:50.87 Notice that the Lord Himself 00:19:51.07\00:19:52.30 utters the voice of the Archangel. 00:19:52.41\00:19:54.34 And so there was this battle 00:19:54.54\00:19:56.12 over the body of Moses. 00:19:56.32\00:19:57.96 And actually, Michael had come to resurrect Moses. 00:19:58.17\00:20:02.02 You say: "Now how do you know that? " 00:20:02.22\00:20:03.76 Well, it's very very simple. 00:20:04.07\00:20:06.32 In Matthew chapter 17 and verse 3 00:20:06.62\00:20:09.68 we find the episode where Jesus was transfigured 00:20:09.99\00:20:14.26 on the Mount of Transfiguration. 00:20:14.46\00:20:16.58 And we are told there that as Jesus was being transfigured - 00:20:16.98\00:20:21.02 in other words, He was glorified there - 00:20:21.22\00:20:23.96 it says that "His garments shone like the sun" - 00:20:24.16\00:20:26.69 we are told that two individuals were sent to speak with Him. 00:20:26.89\00:20:31.02 One of them, of course, was Elijah 00:20:31.33\00:20:33.51 who was translated to heaven from among the living. 00:20:33.71\00:20:36.11 The other was Moses. 00:20:36.31\00:20:38.63 Now what was Moses doing there 1,400 years after his death? 00:20:39.75\00:20:44.51 It must be that he resurrected. 00:20:44.71\00:20:47.07 Because if he didn't resurrect he could not have come 00:20:47.37\00:20:50.51 to speak to Jesus. In other words, Moses 00:20:50.71\00:20:54.30 died once he had delivered Israel from Egypt. 00:20:54.61\00:20:58.10 He died; he was buried; he resurrected 00:20:58.30\00:21:02.01 and he ascended to heaven. 00:21:02.21\00:21:04.95 Now let's summarize what we've studied about Moses. 00:21:05.35\00:21:08.64 Moses delivered literal Israel from literal bondage 00:21:09.61\00:21:14.53 in literal Egypt. Took them across a literal desert 00:21:14.73\00:21:18.84 to a literal land of Canaan. 00:21:19.04\00:21:21.34 They sacrificed a literal lamb. 00:21:21.54\00:21:23.79 Moses brought literal water from a literal rock 00:21:24.19\00:21:27.31 and literal bread from heaven. 00:21:27.52\00:21:29.56 A literal serpent was raised up in the literal desert 00:21:29.76\00:21:33.01 to prevent literal death from literal poison. 00:21:33.21\00:21:35.87 In other words, what happened in the Old Testament was 00:21:36.91\00:21:39.75 literal and local 00:21:39.95\00:21:41.96 but it symbolized future events 00:21:42.07\00:21:44.36 which would be spiritual and global. 00:21:44.56\00:21:47.92 In other words, we have in this episode of Moses 00:21:48.94\00:21:51.35 a prophecy of a far-greater event which was going to 00:21:51.55\00:21:55.71 take place in the future 00:21:55.81\00:21:57.74 and which was foreshadowed by this experience of Israel 00:21:57.94\00:22:01.91 leaving the land of Egypt. 00:22:03.03\00:22:05.40 Are you clear in what we've spoken about so far? 00:22:06.44\00:22:08.87 You have the backdrop of Daniel 2. 00:22:09.50\00:22:13.05 Don't forget that: the fourth kingdom of Daniel 2. 00:22:13.25\00:22:15.97 That's the key right now. 00:22:16.17\00:22:17.60 Rome. The Empire of Rome. The iron monarchy of Rome. 00:22:18.00\00:22:22.76 That's the backdrop of which kingdom from the Old Testament: 00:22:22.96\00:22:26.25 the fourth kingdom of Daniel 2. 00:22:26.46\00:22:28.07 We have the backdrop of Genesis 3:15. 00:22:28.27\00:22:31.00 Let me ask you: do you have the same elements in the story 00:22:31.40\00:22:33.77 of Moses that you have in Genesis 3:15? 00:22:33.97\00:22:35.98 Do you have enmity? Yes you do. 00:22:36.18\00:22:38.50 Do you have a women? Yes... Jochebed. 00:22:38.80\00:22:41.33 Do you have a seed? Yes... Moses. 00:22:41.53\00:22:44.51 Do you have the dragon wanting to kill the seed? 00:22:44.71\00:22:48.55 Absolutely! And so really this story of the exodus from 00:22:48.75\00:22:52.83 Egypt is really a re-enactment of the story 00:22:53.03\00:22:57.84 that is told in Genesis 3 and verse 15. 00:22:58.04\00:23:00.88 Now let's go in our Bibles to Revelation chapter 12 00:23:01.38\00:23:04.53 and verses 1 through 5. 00:23:04.73\00:23:06.53 Revelation chapter 12 verses 1 through 5. 00:23:06.73\00:23:09.34 And I'm going to read this passage... 00:23:09.54\00:23:13.07 I'm actually going to read all five verses... and then 00:23:13.28\00:23:15.51 we're going to study them more carefully. 00:23:15.72\00:23:18.50 It says here: 00:23:19.00\00:23:20.41 So do you have a Seed in her womb? Yes. OK. verse 3: 00:23:47.73\00:23:51.49 Question: do you have a woman in this passage? 00:24:34.48\00:24:38.70 Yes you do. 00:24:39.00\00:24:40.28 Do you have a dragon or a serpent in this passage? 00:24:40.49\00:24:44.95 Yes we do. 00:24:45.25\00:24:46.50 Do you have enmity in this passage? 00:24:46.71\00:24:49.46 Absolutely! 00:24:49.76\00:24:51.24 And do you have in this passage 00:24:51.44\00:24:53.96 a Seed which the woman is going to bring into the world? 00:24:54.16\00:24:57.91 Yes! This is really a development and an unfolding 00:24:58.21\00:25:03.98 of the prophecy of Genesis chapter 3 and verse 15. 00:25:04.18\00:25:08.56 And by the way, it is also a greater amplification 00:25:08.59\00:25:12.86 on a world-wide scale of the experience 00:25:13.16\00:25:16.81 that took place with Moses when he delivered Israel 00:25:17.01\00:25:20.46 from the land of Egypt. 00:25:20.66\00:25:22.67 By the way, do you know that the New Testament presents Jesus 00:25:22.87\00:25:25.70 as a new Moses or as one greater than Moses? 00:25:25.90\00:25:29.48 Notice the book of Hebrews chapter 3 and verses 1 and 2. 00:25:29.98\00:25:33.77 Hebrews chapter 3 and verses 1 and 2. 00:25:34.07\00:25:37.78 Here there's a comparison between Moses and Jesus. 00:25:38.18\00:25:42.68 It says there in verse 1: 00:25:42.88\00:25:44.93 In other words, Moses was great 00:26:04.28\00:26:07.13 but Jesus is greater than Moses. 00:26:07.54\00:26:10.94 In fact, do you know that Moses in Deuteronomy 18:15-18 00:26:11.24\00:26:16.38 predicted that a prophet greater than himself would arise 00:26:16.58\00:26:20.20 and that Israel was to listen to that prophet 00:26:21.00\00:26:23.95 greater than himself. 00:26:24.16\00:26:26.23 If you read Acts chapter 3 and verses 22 to 26 00:26:26.53\00:26:30.89 you'll discover that clearly in Acts 3:22-26 00:26:31.09\00:26:35.88 Peter identifies Jesus as that prophet 00:26:36.08\00:26:41.45 greater than Moses. In other words, Jesus is 00:26:41.65\00:26:44.90 going to do what Moses did but on a much larger and greater 00:26:45.11\00:26:49.58 scale. Whereas Moses delivered literal Israel from literal 00:26:49.78\00:26:54.41 bondage Jesus was going to deliver the human race 00:26:54.51\00:26:57.76 from spiritual bondage to sin. 00:26:57.96\00:27:00.83 Now let's draw the parallel. 00:27:01.03\00:27:03.03 Go with me once again to Revelation chapter 12 00:27:03.33\00:27:06.85 and verses 1 and 2. Revelation 12:1-2. 00:27:07.05\00:27:12.59 We just read those verses but let's read them again. 00:27:12.99\00:27:15.67 You have a women here in Revelation chapter 12 00:27:31.55\00:27:34.75 verses 1 and 2. Now in the Old Testament 00:27:34.85\00:27:37.59 you have a literal woman who brings Moses into the world. 00:27:37.69\00:27:40.85 But in Revelation chapter 12 the woman is symbolic. 00:27:41.15\00:27:45.34 What does the woman represent? 00:27:45.54\00:27:47.23 The woman represents the church. 00:27:47.63\00:27:51.11 The question is: which church? 00:27:51.41\00:27:53.14 The Old Testament church or the New Testament church? 00:27:53.34\00:27:56.58 It has to be the Old Testament church. 00:27:56.88\00:27:59.93 And you say: "How do we know that? " 00:28:00.13\00:28:01.42 Very simple. When John sees the woman 00:28:01.62\00:28:04.60 she is with child but the Child has not been born. 00:28:04.80\00:28:08.09 She's crying out in pain 00:28:08.39\00:28:10.52 because she wants this Child to be delivered. 00:28:10.72\00:28:13.43 She wants this Child to deliver God's people 00:28:13.63\00:28:16.88 just like Israel in the Old Testament was crying out 00:28:16.91\00:28:19.62 for deliverance. Now do you know that in the Old Testament 00:28:19.82\00:28:23.73 Israel is presented as the wife of God? 00:28:23.94\00:28:28.16 Notice what we find in Jeremiah 31 and verse 32. 00:28:28.46\00:28:33.19 Jeremiah 31 and verse 32. 00:28:33.49\00:28:37.00 This is speaking about the episode that took place 00:28:37.30\00:28:39.88 at Mt. Sinai and it says there... 00:28:40.09\00:28:42.83 Actually, let's read verse 31 for the context: 00:28:43.03\00:28:45.66 "Behold the days are coming says the Lord when I will make 00:28:45.96\00:28:48.84 a new covenant with the house of Israel 00:28:48.94\00:28:50.97 and with the house of Judah. 00:28:51.18\00:28:53.05 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers 00:28:53.35\00:28:57.09 in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of 00:28:57.29\00:29:00.37 the land of Egypt. " Now notice this: 00:29:00.57\00:29:03.40 "My covenant which they broke 00:29:03.70\00:29:07.01 though I was a... " What? 00:29:07.11\00:29:09.07 "Though I was a husband to them. " 00:29:09.28\00:29:12.67 So who is the husband of this woman? 00:29:12.88\00:29:15.26 The husband of this woman is God! 00:29:15.56\00:29:18.46 Who implanted Jesus in the womb of Mary? 00:29:18.81\00:29:22.32 God the Father did. 00:29:22.62\00:29:25.10 Are you with me or are you not with me? 00:29:25.40\00:29:26.91 In other words, the woman here represents 00:29:27.21\00:29:30.40 the Old Testament church culminating with Mary 00:29:30.60\00:29:34.72 who was a member of that church so to speak. 00:29:34.92\00:29:38.12 By the way, in Jeremiah 6 and verse 2 00:29:38.25\00:29:40.32 Israel is compared to a beautiful and delicate woman. 00:29:40.52\00:29:45.73 In other words, when you find in prophecy a woman 00:29:46.03\00:29:49.15 it represents the church. 00:29:49.35\00:29:51.81 And in the case of Revelation chapter 12 this woman 00:29:52.01\00:29:55.01 must represent God's church in the Old Testament 00:29:55.21\00:29:58.96 because when John sees the woman the Child has not yet 00:29:59.16\00:30:03.48 been born. 00:30:03.78\00:30:05.58 In other words, what John is seeing is the Old Testament 00:30:05.98\00:30:09.66 church moaning and groaning and crying out in labor pains 00:30:09.86\00:30:15.23 because they want the Messiah to be born into the world 00:30:15.43\00:30:18.95 to deliver the human race from sin. 00:30:19.16\00:30:22.27 Now you say: "How do you know that it's the Old Testament 00:30:23.23\00:30:25.06 church? " Well besides the fact 00:30:25.16\00:30:27.32 that this woman has not had the Child yet 00:30:27.52\00:30:31.32 we have another clue that indicates that this represents 00:30:31.52\00:30:35.43 the Old Testament church. Go with me to Genesis chapter 37 00:30:35.63\00:30:39.85 and verses 9 and 10. 00:30:40.05\00:30:41.94 Genesis 37 and verses 9 and 10. 00:30:42.24\00:30:45.89 It's speaking here about the sons of Jacob. 00:30:46.29\00:30:49.66 And it's very interesting to notice a dream that Joseph had. 00:30:49.86\00:30:54.58 Notice verse 9: "Then he dreamed still another dream 00:30:54.82\00:30:58.43 and told it to his brothers and said: 'Look, I have dreamed 00:30:58.64\00:31:03.83 another dream, and this time the sun, moon, and the 11 stars 00:31:03.96\00:31:09.75 bowed down to me. ' " 00:31:09.96\00:31:12.84 What are the brothers of Joseph compared to? 00:31:14.03\00:31:17.58 They are compared to stars. 00:31:17.88\00:31:20.11 Who would the 12th star be? 00:31:20.31\00:31:22.01 It would be Joseph. 00:31:22.11\00:31:24.25 The sun would be Jacob 00:31:24.45\00:31:27.63 and the moon would be his wife. 00:31:27.83\00:31:31.66 The eleven stars would be the brothers of Joseph 00:31:31.86\00:31:34.23 and the 12th star would be Joseph. 00:31:34.43\00:31:36.17 So what do the twelve stars represent? 00:31:36.37\00:31:38.79 They represent the sons of Jacob 00:31:38.99\00:31:42.74 which later became what? They became the tribes of Israel 00:31:42.94\00:31:46.87 which is God's Old Testament church. 00:31:46.90\00:31:50.11 Are you following what I'm saying? 00:31:50.31\00:31:51.52 In fact, in Genesis 49 verse 28 it says that 00:31:51.72\00:31:54.74 the 12 sons of Jacob became the 12 tribes of Israel. 00:31:54.84\00:31:59.87 Now let me ask you: were God's people in bondage 00:32:00.82\00:32:04.89 when Jesus was about to come to this world? 00:32:05.09\00:32:07.67 Yes they were. In bondage to what? 00:32:08.17\00:32:10.49 Are we talking literal bondage? I mean, were they literally 00:32:11.68\00:32:14.96 slaves of a slave master? 00:32:15.16\00:32:16.72 Absolutely not. They were slaves to what? 00:32:16.92\00:32:19.60 Slaves to sin. Notice John chapter 8. 00:32:19.81\00:32:23.47 John chapter 8 and we'll read verses 34 to 36. 00:32:23.77\00:32:28.08 John 8:34-36. 00:32:28.39\00:32:30.78 Jesus is speaking to the Jews who were expecting the Messiah 00:32:31.08\00:32:34.35 and notice what He says in verse 34: 00:32:34.55\00:32:37.40 So were God's people in slavery or in bondage 00:33:02.80\00:33:07.88 when Jesus came? Absolutely. 00:33:08.08\00:33:10.00 Were they crying out for a deliverer? 00:33:10.20\00:33:12.55 Yes. They were waiting for "the consolation of Israel" 00:33:12.76\00:33:16.69 it says in Luke chapter 1. And then of course 00:33:16.89\00:33:20.73 Jesus is born. And what was He born for? 00:33:20.93\00:33:24.87 Matthew chapter 1 and verse 21 has the answer. 00:33:25.18\00:33:28.19 "You will call His name Jesus 00:33:28.49\00:33:33.31 for He shall save His people from their... " What? 00:33:33.71\00:33:38.16 "He shall save His people from their sins. " 00:33:38.36\00:33:42.04 Was Jesus the Savior born into this world 00:33:42.34\00:33:45.32 to deliver His people from spiritual bondage to sin? 00:33:45.35\00:33:49.58 Were His people groaning and moaning, waiting for the 00:33:49.82\00:33:52.75 consolation of Israel? Absolutely. And by the way, 00:33:52.88\00:33:55.87 Jesus is born during the time of the legs of iron. 00:33:56.10\00:33:59.78 Don't forget that. 00:34:00.01\00:34:01.67 He's born during the period of the fourth kingdom 00:34:01.91\00:34:04.93 of Daniel chapter 2. Now let me ask you: when Jesus 00:34:05.06\00:34:08.34 was born was somebody waiting for Him? 00:34:08.44\00:34:12.09 Did somebody know that He was going to be born? 00:34:12.39\00:34:15.57 Absolutely. Notice Revelation chapter 12 00:34:15.77\00:34:19.30 and verses 3 and 4. Are you seeing the repetition 00:34:19.50\00:34:22.12 of the Moses story? Revelation 12:3-4. 00:34:22.22\00:34:27.42 It says here speaking about this dragon: 00:34:27.72\00:34:31.90 What is the name of this individual who wanted to 00:34:56.16\00:34:58.07 devour the child? The what? 00:34:58.17\00:35:01.40 The great dragon. Do you remember an Old Testament 00:35:01.60\00:35:04.96 individual who was called the great dragon? 00:35:05.06\00:35:07.34 Pharaoh. Now who really wanted the death of Jesus? 00:35:07.64\00:35:12.18 It was Satan, the great dragon. 00:35:12.48\00:35:15.89 Now who was that great dragon? 00:35:16.19\00:35:18.23 Revelation chapter 12 and verse 9 has the answer. 00:35:18.63\00:35:21.42 Revelation chapter 12 and verse 9 00:35:21.72\00:35:23.77 tells us who this dragon was. 00:35:24.07\00:35:25.63 It says: "So the great dragon was cast out, 00:35:25.93\00:35:28.81 that serpent of old" or 'that ancient serpent' as it says 00:35:29.01\00:35:32.44 in the King James, "called the devil and Satan 00:35:32.54\00:35:35.28 who deceives the whole world. He was cast to the earth 00:35:35.49\00:35:38.45 and his angels were cast out with him. " 00:35:38.65\00:35:41.42 So who is the dragon that stood next to the woman 00:35:41.62\00:35:44.31 to devour the Child as soon as the Child was born? 00:35:44.51\00:35:47.12 It was the great dragon Satan 00:35:47.42\00:35:50.76 the ancient serpent, which is a reference to Genesis 3:15. 00:35:50.96\00:35:56.66 Now how did the devil try and destroy Jesus? 00:35:57.88\00:36:00.40 The devil wanted to destroy Moses, didn't he? 00:36:00.70\00:36:03.11 Who did the devil use to try and destroy Moses? 00:36:03.52\00:36:07.44 Pharaoh. See, Pharaoh was the great dragon because he was 00:36:07.84\00:36:11.63 the instrument of "THE great dragon. " 00:36:11.73\00:36:14.45 Let me ask you: when Jesus was born 00:36:14.75\00:36:17.74 was there also THE great dragon who uses a great dragon 00:36:17.94\00:36:23.08 to try and destroy Christ? 00:36:23.28\00:36:24.72 Yes. What was the name of that individual? 00:36:24.93\00:36:27.48 He was called Herod. 00:36:27.78\00:36:30.30 Do you see that the devil has his seed? 00:36:30.60\00:36:32.39 Are you following me with Genesis 3 verse 15? 00:36:33.29\00:36:36.76 The devil works through his what? Through his seed 00:36:37.16\00:36:40.33 to destroy the woman's seed. 00:36:40.43\00:36:42.30 Now notice Matthew chapter 2 and verses 13 through 15. 00:36:42.60\00:36:46.43 Matthew chapter 2 and verses 13 through 15. 00:36:46.83\00:36:51.47 Here we find the story of how the devil tried 00:36:51.87\00:36:54.73 to destroy Jesus. He did not do it directly himself. 00:36:54.93\00:36:57.90 He did it through an instrument just like in the days of Moses. 00:36:58.11\00:37:00.57 It says in verse 13: 00:37:00.87\00:37:02.21 "Now when they had departed behold an angel of the Lord 00:37:02.41\00:37:05.50 appeared to Joseph in a dream saying: 'Arise! 00:37:05.70\00:37:08.67 Take the young child and His mother. Flee to Egypt. ' " 00:37:08.80\00:37:12.29 Where was the life of Jesus preserved? 00:37:14.39\00:37:16.49 In... Of course, that's all a coincidence. 00:37:16.89\00:37:19.28 In Egypt! Where was the life of Moses preserved? 00:37:19.59\00:37:22.70 In Egypt. And so it says: " 'Arise. Take the young child 00:37:23.00\00:37:26.95 and his mother. Flee to Egypt 00:37:27.15\00:37:28.67 and stay there until I bring you word 00:37:28.87\00:37:32.25 for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him. ' 00:37:32.45\00:37:35.65 When he arose he took the young Child and His mother 00:37:36.98\00:37:39.55 by night and departed for Egypt 00:37:39.75\00:37:41.39 and was there until the death 00:37:41.79\00:37:44.12 of Herod that it might be 00:37:44.22\00:37:45.74 fulfilled which was spoken by 00:37:45.77\00:37:47.35 the Lord through the prophet 00:37:47.45\00:37:48.64 saying: 'Out of Egypt 00:37:48.74\00:37:50.31 I called My Son. ' " 00:37:50.51\00:37:52.04 Now notice verse 16: 00:37:52.34\00:37:54.35 Is he doing the same thing that Pharaoh did in the 00:38:16.33\00:38:19.60 Old Testament? Yes. 00:38:19.70\00:38:21.20 In the Old Testament it was a figure but in this case 00:38:21.40\00:38:24.58 it is the fulfillment of what we find in the story 00:38:24.78\00:38:28.47 of Moses. Incidentally, 00:38:28.67\00:38:32.23 do you know the devil tried to kill Jesus on other occasions 00:38:32.43\00:38:35.64 during His life? He didn't only try to kill Jesus 00:38:35.84\00:38:38.79 when Jesus was born. 00:38:38.99\00:38:40.62 Do you remember for example one time Jesus was preaching 00:38:41.98\00:38:44.64 a sermon in Nazareth and He said some very 00:38:44.84\00:38:46.42 politically incorrect things? 00:38:46.62\00:38:48.14 The people shoved Him out of the synagogue 00:38:48.34\00:38:51.01 and they took Him to a precipice and they wanted to throw Him 00:38:51.21\00:38:53.43 over the precipice. He disappeared from their midst. 00:38:53.53\00:38:56.57 He was actually covered by the angels so that the people 00:38:56.77\00:39:00.30 could not see Him. Who do you suppose was behind that? 00:39:00.40\00:39:03.86 The devil. You say: "Well, but if Jesus died 00:39:05.13\00:39:08.23 He would save us from our sins. " Listen, 00:39:08.26\00:39:10.02 the only death that would count was if Jesus offered His life 00:39:10.22\00:39:13.93 not if the devil took His life. 00:39:14.13\00:39:15.66 And the devil knew it. So he says: "If I am able to 00:39:16.47\00:39:18.76 kill Him before He gives His life 00:39:18.86\00:39:21.14 I will be successful. " 00:39:22.64\00:39:24.42 Once the devil tried to drown Jesus in a storm. 00:39:24.72\00:39:27.13 He was sleeping in a boat. 00:39:27.43\00:39:29.07 See we don't usually read these stories from this perspective. 00:39:29.37\00:39:31.79 We usually say: "Oh, there was this bad storm 00:39:31.99\00:39:34.27 you know, and Jesus calmed the storm. " 00:39:34.47\00:39:36.02 Listen, the devil knew that Jesus was sleeping in that boat 00:39:36.23\00:39:38.66 and the devil wanted to drown Jesus because it was not a time 00:39:38.86\00:39:41.45 of storms. Because all of the fishing boats were on the lake. 00:39:41.55\00:39:44.92 In Galilee, fisherman do not go out onto the lake 00:39:45.12\00:39:48.40 when it's stormy season. They simply don't. 00:39:48.60\00:39:50.60 And so this was a storm out of season. 00:39:50.90\00:39:53.36 On another occasion the devil tried to have Jesus stoned. 00:39:53.76\00:39:58.27 On several occasions people picked up stones to 00:39:58.57\00:40:00.67 stone Jesus. The devil was behind this. 00:40:00.77\00:40:03.16 But all through the life of Jesus God the Father 00:40:03.36\00:40:06.88 spared the life of Jesus. 00:40:07.08\00:40:09.25 The devil also tried to defeat Jesus by infiltrating 00:40:09.65\00:40:14.13 Him with sin. Are you seeing the same two methods 00:40:14.23\00:40:17.67 that the devil used in the Old Testament? 00:40:17.77\00:40:19.38 Try and kill the seed and try to corrupt the seed. 00:40:19.68\00:40:23.32 He did the same thing with Jesus. 00:40:24.19\00:40:26.02 He tried to kill Him repeatedly 00:40:26.22\00:40:28.37 and he tried to infect Jesus with the virus of sin. 00:40:28.67\00:40:31.87 But every time that the devil tried to infect Jesus 00:40:32.17\00:40:35.29 with the virus of sin Jesus said: "It is written" 00:40:35.40\00:40:39.90 and He resisted the temptation of Satan. 00:40:40.10\00:40:43.38 The devil also tried to get Jesus to retaliate. 00:40:44.59\00:40:48.28 You see, when Jesus is suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane, 00:40:48.48\00:40:51.93 when He's sweating drops of blood, 00:40:52.14\00:40:53.87 when Jesus is being beaten in Pilate's court 00:40:54.17\00:40:58.37 and in Herod's court, the devil is doing this because 00:40:58.57\00:41:03.05 he wants Jesus to do one of two things. 00:41:03.26\00:41:05.18 He wants Jesus to retaliate 00:41:05.48\00:41:07.79 and thus to sin - to deliver Himself - 00:41:07.99\00:41:10.66 or secondly he wants Jesus to give up and to leave 00:41:10.96\00:41:15.00 and go back to heaven without redeeming the human race. 00:41:15.10\00:41:17.79 He does not want Jesus to go to the cross and die. 00:41:18.09\00:41:21.85 He's causing these sufferings because he wants to bother Jesus 00:41:22.80\00:41:28.26 so much that Jesus will retaliate or Jesus will leave 00:41:28.46\00:41:32.00 when He sees that His disciples have forsaken Him, 00:41:32.20\00:41:34.22 that there's nobody with Him. The devil's saying: 00:41:34.42\00:41:36.60 "What's the use of You going through this? 00:41:36.80\00:41:38.43 Nobody's going to be saved. Everybody's forsaken You. 00:41:38.63\00:41:41.20 Go back to heaven where You're loved. " 00:41:41.40\00:41:43.54 But Jesus stuck with it. 00:41:44.71\00:41:47.24 And the Bible tells us that Jesus died as the Passover Lamb. 00:41:47.74\00:41:52.98 Is that what would happen for the deliverance of Israel 00:41:54.32\00:41:56.50 in the Old Testament? 00:41:56.60\00:41:57.96 Notice I Corinthians chapter 5. 00:41:58.06\00:42:00.00 I Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 7. 00:42:00.20\00:42:02.28 See Jesus is repeating the history of Israel. 00:42:02.48\00:42:05.03 I Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 7. 00:42:05.33\00:42:07.81 The apostle Paul says this: 00:42:08.31\00:42:10.13 "Therefore purge out the old leaven 00:42:10.63\00:42:13.71 that you may be a new lump 00:42:14.01\00:42:15.94 since you truly are unleavened. 00:42:16.24\00:42:18.63 For indeed, Christ our Passover 00:42:18.83\00:42:22.96 was sacrificed for us. " 00:42:23.16\00:42:26.55 And do you know what Jesus did when He died on the cross? 00:42:26.85\00:42:29.40 Notice John chapter 12. 00:42:29.70\00:42:31.63 John chapter 12, and let's read verses 31 to 33. 00:42:31.93\00:42:37.00 John 12 verses 31 to 33. 00:42:37.20\00:42:39.82 And I want you to notice the tense of the verbs. 00:42:40.13\00:42:42.39 Jesus says: 00:42:42.59\00:42:43.67 What tense is that verb? 00:42:52.37\00:42:55.14 "Now the ruler of this world will be cast out. " 00:42:55.24\00:43:00.84 Jesus has not died yet. 00:43:01.24\00:43:03.24 What was going to cast him out? 00:43:03.44\00:43:04.62 Notice... It continues saying there in verse 32: 00:43:04.83\00:43:08.52 What was it that cast out Satan as the king of this world? 00:43:22.13\00:43:26.51 What returned the kingdom and the world back to Jesus? 00:43:26.81\00:43:30.55 It was the death of Jesus on the cross. 00:43:30.79\00:43:33.12 Now we can remember Genesis 3:15. 00:43:33.42\00:43:35.95 God said that He's going to send a Seed to the world 00:43:36.25\00:43:38.70 and the Seed is going to crush the serpent's head. 00:43:38.90\00:43:41.12 And just a few verses further down in verse 21 00:43:41.52\00:43:45.28 God explains how that Seed 00:43:45.48\00:43:47.90 is going to crush the serpent's head. 00:43:48.01\00:43:49.80 It says in Genesis 3 verse 21 00:43:50.65\00:43:52.93 that lambs were sacrificed on that day. 00:43:53.13\00:43:56.74 And from the skins of the 00:43:57.04\00:43:59.34 sacrifice the nakedness of Adam 00:43:59.44\00:44:01.59 and Eve was covered. 00:44:01.69\00:44:03.07 In other words, they returned 00:44:03.27\00:44:04.47 to their original condition. 00:44:04.57\00:44:06.12 And so Genesis 3:15 said "The Seed will crush your head. " 00:44:06.32\00:44:10.09 Verse 21 of chapter 3 explains that it's the death 00:44:10.29\00:44:14.22 of the Lamb that will crush the serpent's head. 00:44:14.32\00:44:17.11 In John chapter 12 Jesus says: "The ruler of this world 00:44:17.31\00:44:20.68 will be cast out" and then He explains how. 00:44:20.78\00:44:23.68 It's because He is going to what? 00:44:23.89\00:44:26.18 Because He is going to die. 00:44:26.39\00:44:28.29 And when Jesus on the cross said: "It is finished! " 00:44:28.49\00:44:32.52 He had won back the kingdom of this world 00:44:32.72\00:44:35.47 and He had won back the earth to return to man 00:44:35.77\00:44:40.83 who lost it originally. 00:44:41.13\00:44:42.69 Now I want you to notice Revelation chapter 12:5. 00:44:43.09\00:44:46.73 By the way, we all know that Jesus died, right? 00:44:46.93\00:44:49.19 Was He buried? 00:44:50.50\00:44:52.04 Was He buried? Yes, He was buried. 00:44:52.34\00:44:54.16 What happened the 3rd day? He what? 00:44:55.20\00:44:57.10 He rose from the dead. 00:44:58.13\00:45:00.38 Did that happen to Moses? 00:45:00.68\00:45:02.41 Yeah. What happened to Moses after he rose from the dead? 00:45:03.44\00:45:06.04 He ascended to where? To heaven. 00:45:07.08\00:45:09.87 Now how about this male Child? 00:45:10.07\00:45:11.47 After He'd won the victory on the cross 00:45:11.67\00:45:14.25 He's buried. He dies... He's buried 00:45:14.45\00:45:18.64 and on the third day He what? 00:45:18.94\00:45:21.41 He resurrects! And where does He go? 00:45:21.61\00:45:25.16 Revelation chapter 12 and verse 5. 00:45:25.57\00:45:28.59 Revelation chapter 12 and verse 5. 00:45:28.79\00:45:31.37 It says here: 00:45:31.67\00:45:32.99 Now do you know how heaven felt when Jesus got back to heaven? 00:45:46.68\00:45:50.71 Let's notice Revelation chapter 12. 00:45:51.84\00:45:54.31 Revelation chapter 12 and I would like to begin reading 00:45:54.51\00:45:57.87 at verse 10. Revelation 12:10. 00:45:58.07\00:46:01.76 And I want you to notice the tense of the verbs here. 00:46:02.72\00:46:05.11 You see, in John 12 Jesus has not died yet. 00:46:05.41\00:46:08.73 He's pronouncing these words about Wednesday 00:46:08.94\00:46:10.77 before His crucifixion. 00:46:10.97\00:46:12.39 And so He says: "Now is the judgment of this world. 00:46:12.59\00:46:14.84 Now the prince of this world will be cast out. " 00:46:15.14\00:46:18.67 And then He says he will be cast out by His death. 00:46:18.97\00:46:21.80 But notice the tense of the verbs in Revelation chapter 12. 00:46:22.20\00:46:25.74 Jesus is now in heaven. 00:46:26.14\00:46:27.91 He's been "caught up to God and to His throne. " 00:46:28.12\00:46:29.97 Notice what it says in Revelation chapter 12 00:46:30.17\00:46:33.02 and verse 10: 00:46:33.22\00:46:35.23 What tense is the verb? 00:47:00.66\00:47:02.15 Past! Because He's already died on the cross. 00:47:02.45\00:47:05.81 He's already died as the Passover Lamb. 00:47:06.21\00:47:08.16 He's already delivered His people from bondage 00:47:08.46\00:47:11.96 to the great dragon and His people are on the way 00:47:12.16\00:47:15.24 to Canaan... eventually someday to enter there. 00:47:15.44\00:47:18.70 Notice verse 11: 00:47:19.01\00:47:20.44 "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb 00:47:20.94\00:47:23.28 and by the word of their testimony. And they did not 00:47:23.48\00:47:27.01 love their lives to the death. " 00:47:27.11\00:47:29.22 And now notice verse 12: 00:47:29.52\00:47:30.86 Let's stop there. 00:47:37.19\00:47:38.35 What are the heavens supposed to do because Jesus has cast 00:47:38.75\00:47:41.10 down the ruler of this world and now Jesus legally rules? 00:47:41.31\00:47:44.45 The heavens are supposed to what? Rejoice! 00:47:44.76\00:47:47.68 Why should they rejoice? 00:47:47.98\00:47:49.07 Because that pest can't go up there any more. 00:47:49.37\00:47:51.82 The accuser of the brethren has been cast down. 00:47:51.95\00:47:55.52 Jesus is now the representative of this world. 00:47:55.82\00:47:59.35 Jesus as the second Adam has legally recovered the world. 00:47:59.55\00:48:03.31 He hasn't empirically taken it yet, 00:48:03.51\00:48:05.84 but legally in court He has gained the world back. 00:48:06.04\00:48:09.14 And so it says here: "Rejoice O heavens 00:48:10.25\00:48:13.74 and you who dwell in them. " 00:48:13.94\00:48:15.51 But now notice: 00:48:15.71\00:48:16.94 "Woe... " You get that? "Rejoice! " "Woe. " 00:48:17.14\00:48:21.61 "Rejoice! " "Woe. " 00:48:22.01\00:48:24.67 Up there: "Rejoice! " Down here? "Woe. " 00:48:24.98\00:48:27.59 Why woe on earth? 00:48:27.89\00:48:30.23 Now we need to quickly look at the final stages 00:48:54.65\00:48:57.91 of Revelation chapter 12. 00:48:58.11\00:48:59.96 We've only discussed the first stage up till now, 00:49:00.27\00:49:02.95 and that's the one that I primarily wanted us 00:49:03.15\00:49:04.88 to understand. But there's 2 additional stages. 00:49:04.98\00:49:08.07 Let's go to Revelation chapter 12 and verse 6. 00:49:08.47\00:49:13.19 Revelation chapter 12 and verse 6. 00:49:13.39\00:49:16.13 What happens after this Child ascends to heaven? 00:49:16.33\00:49:19.30 The dragon is furious... he's enraged. 00:49:19.40\00:49:21.65 He can't vent his rage upon the Child any more 00:49:21.85\00:49:24.84 because the Child beat him and He's back in heaven. 00:49:25.04\00:49:27.62 So what does the devil have to do? 00:49:27.92\00:49:29.68 He has to take second best. 00:49:29.88\00:49:32.28 And what is second best? 00:49:32.68\00:49:34.87 To go after the woman. 00:49:35.07\00:49:38.14 Notice verse 6: 00:49:38.44\00:49:40.07 Where does the woman go? She flees into the what? 00:49:58.59\00:50:02.94 "Into the wilderness where God has prepared a place 00:50:03.24\00:50:06.08 for her and feeds here 1,260 days. " 00:50:06.28\00:50:11.73 Which are really what? Years. 00:50:11.83\00:50:13.37 Now the question is: why is she fleeing? 00:50:13.57\00:50:15.51 Who's persecuting her? 00:50:15.91\00:50:17.24 Well, later on in the chapter we have an explanation 00:50:17.54\00:50:20.02 of this verse. Notice verse 13: 00:50:20.12\00:50:22.39 Does the persecution of the woman have anything to do 00:50:27.21\00:50:29.71 with the fact that the devil has been cast out 00:50:29.81\00:50:31.50 as the ruler of this world? 00:50:31.70\00:50:32.73 He's filled with rage 'cause he doesn't have access to Jesus 00:50:33.01\00:50:35.70 any more. So it says: 00:50:35.80\00:50:37.02 See, now the enmity is between the serpent and the woman. 00:50:42.91\00:50:45.70 Genesis 3:15 has that also. 00:50:45.80\00:50:49.71 The serpent and the woman are at war 00:50:50.01\00:50:52.37 and the Seed of the woman and the serpent are at war. 00:50:52.57\00:50:55.52 He already warred against the Seed of the woman and lost 00:50:55.82\00:50:58.36 so now he goes after the woman. 00:50:58.56\00:51:00.82 And notice verse 14: 00:51:01.32\00:51:03.19 And so after the Child escapes 00:51:37.75\00:51:40.20 is there a period where the dragon goes after the woman? 00:51:40.40\00:51:43.88 Yes. How long does he go after the woman? 00:51:44.18\00:51:46.87 1,260 years. 00:51:47.17\00:51:50.30 Would you think that this would be the period of the feet 00:51:50.60\00:51:52.82 of the mixture of church and state? 00:51:53.03\00:51:55.08 All you have to do is look at history in the Middle Ages. 00:51:55.28\00:51:57.95 You see that it was the nominal church of the Middle Ages 00:51:58.18\00:52:01.36 that persecuted God's people who were in the wilderness 00:52:01.56\00:52:05.79 so to speak. The Waldenses and the Albigenses 00:52:05.99\00:52:09.04 and others had to flee from the established church 00:52:09.24\00:52:12.33 that wanted to destroy them because the church said 00:52:12.53\00:52:15.63 that they were heretics. 00:52:15.83\00:52:17.16 And so here you have the feet 00:52:17.46\00:52:19.32 of iron and clay, the mixture 00:52:19.42\00:52:21.40 of church and state. Now in Daniel 2 you don't have 00:52:21.60\00:52:23.63 any specific time period 00:52:23.73\00:52:25.48 given to the feet, but in our lecture on Daniel 7 00:52:25.68\00:52:29.05 we are going to study how after this dragon 00:52:29.35\00:52:33.62 rules for a period he's going to sprout ten horns. 00:52:33.92\00:52:37.71 And then among the 10 horns will rise a little horn 00:52:37.91\00:52:41.10 and the little horn will rule time, times, and the dividing 00:52:41.30\00:52:45.54 of time. Revelation 12 is covering the same period 00:52:45.64\00:52:49.02 as Daniel 2 and the same period as we will study 00:52:49.22\00:52:52.50 from Daniel chapter 7. 00:52:52.70\00:52:54.76 Now I want you to notice... We're not going to get into this 00:52:55.88\00:52:58.25 in detail, but when the woman is being persecuted 00:52:58.35\00:53:01.09 she flees into the wilderness. God maintains her there. 00:53:01.29\00:53:04.75 God feeds her there. 00:53:04.95\00:53:06.77 But then suddenly something comes to the rescue. 00:53:06.97\00:53:09.83 Revelation chapter 12 and verse 16 says: 00:53:10.23\00:53:14.33 "But the earth helped the woman. " 00:53:14.57\00:53:18.26 Does persecution come to an end? 00:53:26.79\00:53:29.95 Yes or no? 00:53:30.25\00:53:31.78 Absolutely. When would it come to an end? 00:53:32.08\00:53:33.45 It would have to be when the 1,260 years end 00:53:33.75\00:53:36.81 because the church - the woman - is persecuted 00:53:37.01\00:53:39.67 for 1,260 years. 00:53:39.88\00:53:42.20 So the earth helping the woman must come after this period. 00:53:43.31\00:53:47.59 The earth swallows up the waters of persecution. 00:53:48.52\00:53:50.89 Persecution ceases for a period. 00:53:51.09\00:53:53.93 Does it cease forever? 00:53:55.20\00:53:56.79 No. Notice the third stage of Revelation 12 in verse 17. 00:53:57.20\00:54:02.25 This will be our final closing verse. 00:54:02.35\00:54:04.54 Why? Because the earth helped the woman, right? 00:54:09.13\00:54:11.57 We'll talk about the earth later on in this seminar. 00:54:13.62\00:54:16.03 Do you have the same 4 elements in Revelation 12:17 00:54:35.61\00:54:39.27 as you have in Genesis 3:15? 00:54:39.47\00:54:40.98 Let's look at it. Do we have in Revelation 12:17 00:54:42.41\00:54:46.25 enmity? Yes or no? 00:54:47.49\00:54:50.31 Absolutely. Do we have in Revelation 12 verse 17 00:54:50.51\00:54:54.79 a woman? Yes we do. 00:54:54.99\00:54:57.68 Do we have in Revelation 12:17 a dragon or a serpent? 00:54:57.99\00:55:02.60 Yes. Do we have in Revelation 12:17 00:55:03.40\00:55:06.98 a seed? Yes we do. 00:55:07.18\00:55:09.78 And by the way, Revelation 12:17 is not speaking about the seed 00:55:10.09\00:55:13.59 of the woman, it's talking about the Seed's seed. 00:55:13.69\00:55:16.83 I'll let you digest that for a couple of seconds. 00:55:19.10\00:55:21.64 The warfare is not against the seed. 00:55:22.15\00:55:24.75 It's not even against the woman. 00:55:25.05\00:55:27.41 It's against the Seed's seed. 00:55:27.81\00:55:31.29 The final remnant of the woman's seed. 00:55:31.49\00:55:33.66 Now who is the woman's seed? 00:55:33.86\00:55:34.94 We already studied it. Verses 1 through 5 said that 00:55:36.54\00:55:38.80 the Seed of the woman that she bears is what? 00:55:38.90\00:55:41.66 Jesus. So who must the remnant of her Seed be? 00:55:41.97\00:55:46.25 If her Seed is Jesus, it must be the remnant of? 00:55:46.45\00:55:49.97 Jesus. You're not following me, are you? 00:55:50.27\00:55:54.46 It's the remnant of Jesus. 00:55:54.96\00:55:57.15 So are there going to be Christians in this world 00:55:57.55\00:55:59.68 in the final persecution of Satan against the church? 00:55:59.88\00:56:02.17 Absolutely. 00:56:02.47\00:56:04.25 By the way, in John chapter 12 and verse 24 00:56:04.55\00:56:08.84 Jesus says that unless a seed falls into the ground 00:56:09.04\00:56:11.62 and dies it cannot bear fruit. 00:56:11.82\00:56:14.65 But if it falls into the ground 00:56:14.85\00:56:17.33 and dies, it will grow into a plant and produce much fruit. 00:56:17.53\00:56:21.09 That Seed was Jesus. 00:56:22.07\00:56:23.74 When Jesus died on the cross He was planted in the earth. 00:56:24.04\00:56:26.89 He resurrected... He sprouted to new life. 00:56:27.19\00:56:30.60 The Seed died... and it sprouted. 00:56:30.90\00:56:33.05 And now, because Jesus died and resurrected, 00:56:33.35\00:56:36.37 what is He going to bear? He is going to bear 00:56:36.57\00:56:39.25 many children. The Seed's seed if you please. 00:56:39.45\00:56:44.56 That's why in Galatians chapter 3 it says that Jesus 00:56:44.86\00:56:48.17 is the Seed of Abraham. 00:56:48.37\00:56:50.66 He's the only Seed. 00:56:50.96\00:56:52.47 The promise was not made to seeds 00:56:52.67\00:56:54.44 but to the Seed, who was Christ. 00:56:54.64\00:56:56.61 But then later on in the chapter it says: 00:56:56.82\00:56:58.14 Because when we join Jesus we are the Seed's seed 00:57:02.88\00:57:06.71 and the devil hates us as much as he hated Jesus. 00:57:06.91\00:57:11.43 And so this verse is speaking about the final persecution 00:57:11.66\00:57:14.83 against the church at the very end of time 00:57:15.13\00:57:17.88 and we will study more about this as we move along 00:57:18.08\00:57:21.07 in this seminar. 00:57:21.27\00:57:23.20
