Shall we bow our heads for prayer? 00:01:12.96\00:01:14.35 Our Father in heaven, we thank You for the wonderful day that 00:01:14.39\00:01:19.79 we have received from Your hand. 00:01:19.82\00:01:21.75 We thank You for life, not only physical life, 00:01:21.78\00:01:25.67 but spiritual life. 00:01:25.70\00:01:26.73 We thank You for the book of Genesis. 00:01:26.76\00:01:29.56 It's so important in these last days. 00:01:29.59\00:01:32.46 We ask that as we study another episode from this wonderful 00:01:32.49\00:01:36.98 book, that Your Holy Spirit will be with us to instruct us, 00:01:37.01\00:01:40.52 to teach us the things that we need to know 00:01:40.55\00:01:43.23 as we live in these last days. 00:01:43.26\00:01:45.81 We thank You for hearing our prayer 00:01:45.85\00:01:48.50 for we ask it in Jesus' name, Amen. 00:01:48.53\00:01:52.47 I'd like to begin our study today at Genesis 1:26, 28, 00:01:52.50\00:02:02.77 Genesis 1:26, and then we'll jump down to verse 28. 00:02:02.80\00:02:08.45 There are four points that I want to underline in these 00:02:08.48\00:02:13.56 two verses as we begin our study. 00:02:13.59\00:02:15.62 Verse 26 says: Then God said, Let us make man in our image, 00:02:15.65\00:02:23.85 according to our likeness: and let them have dominion... 00:02:23.88\00:02:30.36 That's the first idea that I want us to notice: dominion. 00:02:30.39\00:02:33.00 That means kingship, rulership. 00:02:33.04\00:02:36.09 Let them have dominion. 00:02:36.12\00:02:37.67 And then it speaks about the territory. 00:02:37.71\00:02:39.97 Second point: their territory. 00:02:40.00\00:02:42.02 It says: over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, 00:02:42.05\00:02:48.60 over the cattle, over all the earth, and over every creeping 00:02:48.63\00:02:54.73 thing that creeps on the earth. 00:02:54.76\00:02:56.85 Two points: 1. God gave man dominion. 00:02:56.88\00:03:01.32 2. His dominion was exercised over planet Earth. 00:03:01.35\00:03:07.28 Now we want to notice also verse 28, verse 28. 00:03:07.31\00:03:12.99 It says: Then God blessed them. 00:03:13.02\00:03:15.81 This is the third element that I want you to notice. 00:03:15.84\00:03:18.65 God blessed them, and God said to them, 00:03:18.68\00:03:20.58 And God said to them... 00:03:20.61\00:03:22.20 Fourth element... Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth... 00:03:22.23\00:03:29.29 And then the same idea is repeated as at the beginning 00:03:29.32\00:03:33.08 of verse 26... and subdue it: have dominion over the fish 00:03:33.12\00:03:37.28 of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living 00:03:37.31\00:03:41.44 thing that moves on the earth. 00:03:41.47\00:03:44.08 Four ideas: 1. Dominion 2. The territory, the earth. 00:03:44.12\00:03:50.93 3. The blessing. 4. A multiplicity of descendents. 00:03:50.96\00:03:59.03 And, of course, the idea was that the descendents would 00:03:59.06\00:04:02.15 be holy and righteous, just like Adam and Eve. 00:04:02.18\00:04:06.48 But then sin came into the world, and Satan took the plan, 00:04:06.51\00:04:14.63 which belonged to God, and ruined it. 00:04:14.67\00:04:17.97 The devil took dominion over the earth. 00:04:18.01\00:04:21.28 The devil took over the territory of the earth. 00:04:21.31\00:04:26.06 Instead of the blessing three times in Genesis 3 and 4, 00:04:26.09\00:04:29.77 we find the word curse. 00:04:29.80\00:04:31.74 And instead of filling the earth with a race of righteous 00:04:31.77\00:04:35.97 and holy people, the Bible says that the earth was filled with 00:04:36.01\00:04:40.20 people, but it was a violent and iniquitous race like Satan. 00:04:40.23\00:04:45.82 And so the fourfold plan of God was spoiled. 00:04:45.86\00:04:50.15 Instead of man having dominion, Satan took dominion. 00:04:50.19\00:04:54.02 Instead of man owning the earth, Satan stole the earth. 00:04:54.06\00:04:57.86 Instead of the blessing came the curse. 00:04:57.89\00:05:00.44 And instead of a multitude of holy descendents, 00:05:00.47\00:05:03.45 there was a multitude of a corrupt race, which eventually 00:05:03.48\00:05:07.58 led to the worldwide flood. 00:05:07.61\00:05:09.70 But God had set forth a plan to recover these four things 00:05:09.73\00:05:17.73 which Adam and Eve, and their descendents lost. 00:05:17.76\00:05:21.84 And what we want to study in our lecture today is how God 00:05:21.87\00:05:27.31 revealed the way in which He was going to restore dominion, 00:05:27.34\00:05:32.77 restore the earth, restore the blessing, 00:05:32.80\00:05:36.86 and restore a multitude of righteous people, 00:05:36.89\00:05:41.10 filling the whole earth. 00:05:41.13\00:05:43.06 Now in order to understand how God was going to counteract what 00:05:43.09\00:05:47.23 the devil had brought in, we need to go to Genesis 22, 00:05:47.26\00:05:52.81 which will be the central chapter of our study 00:05:52.84\00:05:56.15 in our lecture today. 00:05:56.18\00:05:57.32 This is the famous story of the almost sacrifice of Isaac. 00:05:57.35\00:06:03.70 Because we know that Isaac was not actually sacrificed. 00:06:03.74\00:06:10.02 Now I'm going to go through this story quickly, and I'm going to 00:06:10.06\00:06:13.61 underline certain points in the story which are very important 00:06:13.64\00:06:17.92 for what we're going to talk about in the second half of our 00:06:17.95\00:06:22.22 study, or the second half of our lecture. 00:06:22.25\00:06:24.42 So pay particular and special attention to the details 00:06:24.45\00:06:29.51 that I'm going to mention in the first half, because we're going 00:06:29.54\00:06:32.79 to do a parallel in the second half of our study. 00:06:32.82\00:06:36.16 The first thing that we need to realize is that when Isaac was 00:06:36.19\00:06:40.63 born Abraham was an old man. 00:06:40.66\00:06:45.12 He was actually 120 years old according to scripture. 00:06:45.16\00:06:50.40 So we have an individual whom we might call the ancient 00:06:50.43\00:06:55.64 of days, who has a son. 00:06:55.67\00:06:58.59 And, by the way, that son, according to Galatians 4, 00:06:58.62\00:07:03.53 was born by the intervention of the Holy Spirit. 00:07:03.56\00:07:07.38 You can read there in Galatians 4. 00:07:07.41\00:07:10.18 It says that Isaac was born according to the Spirit, 00:07:10.21\00:07:14.53 whereas Ishmael was born according to the flesh. 00:07:14.56\00:07:17.80 As you remember, Sarah could not have children. 00:07:17.84\00:07:21.08 And so the Holy Spirit worked a special miracle so that Sarah 00:07:21.11\00:07:25.96 could have this child, Isaac, the son born 00:07:26.00\00:07:30.18 according to the Spirit. 00:07:30.21\00:07:31.50 The son born according to the promise, he's also called, 00:07:31.53\00:07:35.29 in Galatians chapter 4. 00:07:35.33\00:07:36.92 Now let's go to Genesis 22 and examine several interesting 00:07:36.95\00:07:41.46 details about this story. 00:07:41.49\00:07:44.13 Genesis 22, and I would like to begin at verse 2, Genesis 22:2. 00:07:44.16\00:07:51.95 Actually, let's start at verse 1 for the context. 00:07:51.98\00:07:55.94 Now it came to pass after these things, that God tested Abraham, 00:07:55.97\00:08:00.79 and said to him, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. 00:08:00.83\00:08:06.22 Then He said: 00:08:06.26\00:08:07.80 Now there's something wrong there, because Isaac was not 00:08:15.15\00:08:21.42 Abraham's only son. 00:08:21.46\00:08:23.48 Now the Hebrew word that is used here for only is the word 00:08:23.51\00:08:27.97 yachid, which does not mean the only, numerically, 00:08:28.00\00:08:34.39 but it actually should be translated the precious son, 00:08:34.42\00:08:38.54 the unique son, the special son. 00:08:38.57\00:08:43.30 Unique would probably be a better translation. 00:08:43.33\00:08:46.39 So God is saying, Take your unique son, 00:08:46.42\00:08:49.84 your one of a kind son. 00:08:49.88\00:08:53.04 We know that Abraham had another son who was Ishmael. 00:08:53.07\00:08:57.04 And so Isaac was not the only son numerically. 00:08:57.07\00:09:01.25 Actually, this is speaking about Abraham's special, unique, 00:09:01.28\00:09:07.31 one of a kind son. 00:09:07.35\00:09:09.93 Now I want you to notice that according to Hebrews 11:17 00:09:09.96\00:09:14.73 Isaac is called the only begotten son. 00:09:14.76\00:09:20.60 Notice the book of Hebrews 11: 17, Hebrews 11:17. 00:09:20.63\00:09:29.39 By the way, the word only begotten is one word 00:09:42.60\00:09:45.95 in Greek, monogenes. 00:09:45.99\00:09:47.61 It also means special, or unique son. 00:09:47.65\00:09:52.38 It has nothing to do with begetting. 00:09:52.41\00:09:54.53 It has to do with status. 00:09:54.56\00:09:56.90 So notice that the New Testament agrees that Isaac was Abraham's 00:09:56.93\00:10:02.65 only begotten son; his special son, in other words. 00:10:02.68\00:10:07.75 Now let's go back to Genesis 22: 2, and continue studying 00:10:07.78\00:10:13.91 the details of this story. 00:10:13.94\00:10:15.57 Genesis 22 and notice verse 2. 00:10:15.60\00:10:19.22 In other words, this is the only begotten, 00:10:30.47\00:10:33.96 beloved son of Abraham. 00:10:33.99\00:10:37.54 Now I want you to notice also Genesis 22:2 00:10:37.58\00:10:43.48 another interesting detail. It says: 00:10:43.51\00:10:46.44 ...your unique son, your special son, your one of a kind son, 00:10:50.84\00:10:55.63 In other words, Your beloved only begotten son. 00:10:57.95\00:11:01.15 Now let's stop there for a minute. 00:11:04.17\00:11:06.75 Go to the land of Moriah. 00:11:06.78\00:11:10.41 At this time Abraham lived in Beersheba. 00:11:10.44\00:11:12.95 From Beersheba to Moriah there are forty-seven miles 00:11:12.98\00:11:18.62 as the crow flies, which means that Abraham, in spite of the 00:11:18.65\00:11:22.98 fact that he was an old man, must have been in good shape 00:11:23.01\00:11:26.50 in order to make that trip in three days, 00:11:26.53\00:11:29.53 according to what this story says. 00:11:29.56\00:11:31.78 Now I want you to notice that specifically, 00:11:31.81\00:11:34.61 God told him to go to Moriah. 00:11:34.64\00:11:37.23 Now why, specifically, to Moriah? 00:11:37.26\00:11:40.06 Well, go with me to 1 Chronicles 21:18, 26, 00:11:40.09\00:11:49.92 1 Chronicles 21:18, 26. 00:11:49.95\00:11:56.37 There's a very interesting detail here that we need to 00:11:56.40\00:11:59.72 notice in order to understand why God sent Abraham to Moriah. 00:11:59.75\00:12:04.45 It says in verse 18: 00:12:04.48\00:12:05.63 Where was David supposed to build an altar? on the threshing 00:12:17.60\00:12:22.36 floor of Ornan the Jebusite. 00:12:22.39\00:12:25.42 Now why is that important? 00:12:25.45\00:12:27.16 Go with me to 2 Chronicles 3:1, 2 Chronicles 3:1. It says: 00:12:27.19\00:12:35.56 This is Solomon's temple, so called. 00:12:40.00\00:12:42.76 What was built on Mount Moriah? 00:12:59.29\00:13:02.97 What was built there was Solomon's temple. 00:13:03.00\00:13:06.65 And what was offered in Solomon's temple? 00:13:06.68\00:13:09.69 Sacrifices of animals were offered. 00:13:09.72\00:13:13.09 That means that the very place where Abraham took his son 00:13:13.12\00:13:17.80 is the place where the sacrificial system, 00:13:17.83\00:13:20.57 which pointed to Christ, was established. 00:13:20.60\00:13:22.95 On that very mountain, later on, the temple was established. 00:13:22.98\00:13:27.59 Now I want you to notice, once again, going back to 00:13:27.62\00:13:31.08 Genesis 22:2, that this was a sacrifice for sin 00:13:31.11\00:13:39.13 that Abraham was going to offer. 00:13:39.16\00:13:41.58 Notice Genesis 22:2 again. 00:13:41.61\00:13:44.13 Notice that he was supposed to offer Isaac as a burnt offering. 00:14:00.57\00:14:04.97 Now in Israel they had thank offerings, and they also 00:14:05.00\00:14:08.94 had sin offerings. 00:14:08.97\00:14:10.50 This was not a thank offering. 00:14:10.53\00:14:13.04 God was asking Abraham to offer Isaac as a sin offering. 00:14:13.07\00:14:18.54 And you say, How do we know that? 00:14:18.57\00:14:20.06 Well, because the same expression is used in 00:14:20.09\00:14:23.20 Leviticus 1:3, 4, if you'll go with me there. 00:14:23.23\00:14:26.17 Leviticus 1:3, 4. It says here: 00:14:26.20\00:14:32.35 If this offering is a burnt sacrifice... 00:14:32.38\00:14:37.30 Same expression. 00:14:37.33\00:14:38.38 ...of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: 00:14:38.41\00:14:42.97 he shall offer it of his own free will at the door of the 00:14:43.00\00:14:48.46 tabernacle of meeting before the Lord. Verse 4: 00:14:48.49\00:14:51.59 So the idea of Isaac going to Mount Moriah with Abraham 00:15:05.37\00:15:10.10 was so that Isaac would be offered not as a thank offering, 00:15:10.13\00:15:14.08 but offered as a sacrifice for sin. 00:15:14.11\00:15:18.18 This was a sin sacrifice, in other words, on Mount Moriah. 00:15:18.21\00:15:23.06 Now there's other interesting details of this story. 00:15:23.09\00:15:26.39 Go with me to Genesis 22:4, Genesis 22:4. 00:15:26.42\00:15:34.26 How long did the ordeal last? 00:15:34.29\00:15:38.84 It says there in verse 4: 00:15:38.87\00:15:41.98 Notice that this suffering and agony of Abraham lasted for 00:15:51.06\00:15:56.01 a period of three days, according to the story. 00:15:56.04\00:15:59.55 Not only that, we just read that on the third day Abraham 00:15:59.58\00:16:05.24 looked at the place and he saw the place how? afar off. 00:16:05.27\00:16:10.82 Let's go back to Genesis 22 and notice that 00:16:10.85\00:16:14.66 very important detail. 00:16:14.69\00:16:16.33 Genesis 22:4 again. 00:16:16.36\00:16:19.48 It says, Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes, 00:16:19.51\00:16:23.39 and saw the place afar off. 00:16:23.42\00:16:25.65 And then notice verse 5. 00:16:25.68\00:16:27.78 So these lads that went with Abraham, they're observing 00:16:39.22\00:16:42.73 what is happening on Mount Moriah from afar off. 00:16:42.76\00:16:47.90 I want you to remember that, there are witnesses to this, 00:16:47.93\00:16:51.57 and they're standing afar off. 00:16:51.60\00:16:54.38 Notice Genesis 22:6, another very interesting detail. 00:16:54.41\00:17:00.37 Chapter 22 and verse 6. It says: 00:17:00.40\00:17:03.60 Who carried the wood? 00:17:10.57\00:17:13.30 The wood was carried by Isaac. 00:17:13.33\00:17:16.38 The father placed the wood upon Isaac, and Isaac carried 00:17:16.41\00:17:20.80 the wood, and then he was bound to the wood. 00:17:20.83\00:17:24.23 Notice, it says in verse 6 again, So Abraham took the wood 00:17:24.26\00:17:29.00 of the burnt offering, and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took 00:17:29.03\00:17:34.00 And notice what happens with Abraham. It says: 00:17:34.03\00:17:36.88 That is Abraham took. 00:17:38.08\00:17:39.78 So we notice here that Isaac bears the wood upon which 00:17:46.60\00:17:51.71 he is going to be placed, but Abraham has the instrument 00:17:51.74\00:17:56.27 which are going to be used to slay his own son. 00:17:56.30\00:17:59.78 In other words, the father is going to slay his son, 00:17:59.81\00:18:02.22 but his son bears the wood, and then his son is placed 00:18:02.25\00:18:06.68 upon the wood. Now notice Genesis 22:7 when they arrive 00:18:06.71\00:18:12.69 at this location, Genesis 22:7. 00:18:12.72\00:18:16.94 Where is the ram for the burnt offering? 00:18:42.24\00:18:45.13 Now it's very interesting in the answer that Abraham gave that 00:18:45.16\00:18:50.34 Abraham is giving a prophetic answer. 00:18:50.37\00:18:53.66 Notice verse 8, verse 8. It says here: 00:18:53.69\00:18:58.25 For what? Now, now! 00:19:06.34\00:19:12.56 Listen to that! All these details are important. 00:19:12.59\00:19:15.35 In other words, God is going to provide a substitute. 00:19:26.08\00:19:29.91 God is going to provide a ram, or a lamb as an offering, 00:19:29.94\00:19:33.72 as a sin offering. He's saying to Isaac, 00:19:33.75\00:19:36.23 Don't you worry about it. 00:19:36.26\00:19:38.81 So they arrive at the place of execution. 00:19:38.84\00:19:42.25 I want you to notice that this is an execution. 00:19:42.28\00:19:44.12 This is not a natural death. 00:19:44.15\00:19:45.61 It says there in Genesis 22:9: 00:19:45.64\00:19:51.01 Notice that he's bound to the wood. 00:20:02.23\00:20:04.71 Can you imagine what must have been going through 00:20:10.32\00:20:13.10 the heart of Abraham at this time? 00:20:13.13\00:20:14.79 The son of the promise, the son through whom the promises 00:20:14.82\00:20:18.93 were going to be fulfilled that God made to Abraham, 00:20:18.96\00:20:22.72 and now God is telling Abraham to lift up his hand against his 00:20:22.75\00:20:27.11 own son. It must have been a terrible ordeal for Abraham 00:20:27.14\00:20:31.48 to do this. The father lifting up his hand against his unique, 00:20:31.51\00:20:37.75 only begotten, beloved son there on Mount Moriah. 00:20:37.78\00:20:42.39 And so the Bible says that Abraham raised his hand 00:20:42.42\00:20:47.12 to slay his son. Now there's a detail that is not directly 00:20:47.15\00:20:51.63 in the story, which I need to emphasize before we continue 00:20:51.66\00:20:56.51 with the story. Let me ask you, do you suppose that when Abraham 00:20:56.54\00:21:00.46 told Isaac, Now Isaac, You are the sacrifice. 00:21:00.49\00:21:04.46 You are the sin offering. 00:21:04.49\00:21:07.06 Do you suppose it could have been quite simple for Isaac 00:21:07.09\00:21:11.38 to escape from his father? 00:21:11.41\00:21:12.82 Do you think he could have escaped? of course! 00:21:12.85\00:21:16.62 Abraham was an old man. 00:21:16.65\00:21:18.41 Isaac could have said, Not me! 00:21:18.44\00:21:21.77 And he could have taken off. 00:21:21.80\00:21:23.77 But when they arrived at the place, and the father reveals 00:21:23.80\00:21:27.56 his plan to his beloved son, his unique son, and he says, 00:21:27.59\00:21:31.48 son, you are the sacrifice. 00:21:31.51\00:21:33.98 Isaac submissively places himself in his father's hands, 00:21:34.01\00:21:39.60 and he says, Your will be done. 00:21:39.63\00:21:43.91 Allow me to read you a statement in that classic book 00:21:43.94\00:21:48.24 that I've read from before. 00:21:48.27\00:21:49.82 It's a history of the Old Testament up to the time 00:21:49.85\00:21:52.82 of Solomon. Patriarchs and Prophets, page 152. 00:21:52.85\00:21:58.11 The author says this: 00:21:58.14\00:22:00.34 He said, Father, Your will be done. 00:22:46.14\00:22:50.74 And so we notice in Genesis 22: 10 that Abraham raises up 00:22:50.77\00:22:56.63 his hand to slay his own son as a sin offering. 00:22:56.66\00:23:00.98 Notice once again, Genesis 22:10: 00:23:01.01\00:23:07.72 Notice the son is on the wood. 00:23:14.48\00:23:15.98 The son has borne the wood, but the one who is going to 00:23:16.01\00:23:18.77 actually execute the sentence upon him is his own father. 00:23:18.80\00:23:23.14 And it says in verse 11: 00:23:23.17\00:23:25.50 And then we have some very significant words. 00:23:48.74\00:23:54.58 Now listen to what I'm going to say. 00:23:54.61\00:23:57.42 Isaac, we're going to find, actually is a symbol of Christ, 00:23:57.45\00:24:03.35 but he's also a symbol of us. 00:24:03.38\00:24:08.96 He's a symbol of Christ, and I'm going to explain what I mean. 00:24:08.99\00:24:12.58 He a symbol of Christ in the sense that, you know, 00:24:12.61\00:24:19.41 he's the only son, he's the beloved son. 00:24:19.44\00:24:21.72 He's going to be offered as a sin offering. 00:24:21.75\00:24:24.01 He submissively places himself in the hands of his father. 00:24:24.04\00:24:27.40 In that sense he's a symbol of Christ. 00:24:27.43\00:24:29.84 But Isaac was never actually sacrificed. 00:24:29.87\00:24:34.85 There was a substitute offered in place of Isaac. 00:24:34.88\00:24:39.91 In two senses Isaac is a symbol of Christ. 00:24:39.94\00:24:43.06 First in his submission, and his willingness to die 00:24:43.09\00:24:46.78 at the hands of his father. 00:24:46.81\00:24:48.13 And secondly, we're going to notice in a minute, that he also 00:24:48.16\00:24:51.63 symbolizes Christ in the fact that on the third day in figure, 00:24:51.66\00:24:56.53 he resurrected from the dead. 00:24:56.56\00:24:58.72 But when it comes to the sacrifice itself, 00:24:58.75\00:25:01.96 Isaac did not die. 00:25:01.99\00:25:03.43 A substitute was found. 00:25:03.46\00:25:05.66 Now go with me to Hebrews 11: 19, Hebrews 11:19. 00:25:05.69\00:25:14.04 Here's where we find the idea that Isaac actually 00:25:14.07\00:25:18.51 resurrected the third day. 00:25:18.54\00:25:19.79 You say, How could he resurrect if he didn't die? 00:25:19.82\00:25:21.76 Listen, in the mind of Abraham, he was as good as dead. 00:25:21.79\00:25:25.52 And on the third day Abraham got his son back alive, 00:25:25.55\00:25:30.67 in his mind. Notice verse 17 of Hebrews 11. 00:25:30.70\00:25:37.19 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac: 00:25:37.22\00:25:42.50 and he who had received the promises offered up 00:25:42.53\00:25:46.73 his only begotten son, of whom it was said, In Isaac your 00:25:46.76\00:25:51.82 seed shall be called. 00:25:51.85\00:25:52.88 Concluding, now notice this: 00:25:52.91\00:25:55.77 In other words, Isaac restored to his father alive 00:26:10.10\00:26:14.33 on the third day, symbolized in figure, the resurrection 00:26:14.36\00:26:19.19 of Jesus, who once again is in communion with His Father 00:26:19.22\00:26:24.26 when He resurrected on the third day. 00:26:24.29\00:26:26.73 So, actually, Isaac, in the mind of Abraham, 00:26:26.76\00:26:30.95 resurrected figuratively on the third day. 00:26:30.98\00:26:34.14 And so you have this marvelous story of Genesis 22. 00:26:34.18\00:26:40.09 Now my question is, Why did God give this story? 00:26:40.12\00:26:42.85 Is this only a story showing that Abraham loved God 00:26:42.88\00:26:47.69 more than he loved his own son? 00:26:47.72\00:26:49.69 Is this really even a story about Abraham and Isaac? 00:26:49.72\00:26:53.39 Or is this story far more profound than the historical 00:26:53.42\00:26:59.29 circumstances which took place approximately 1900 years 00:26:59.32\00:27:03.09 before the birth of Jesus? 00:27:03.12\00:27:04.29 Now before I answer that question we need to go back 00:27:04.32\00:27:07.36 to Genesis 22 and examine one further concept before 00:27:07.39\00:27:13.14 we do the parallel. 00:27:13.17\00:27:14.54 Genesis 22 and I would like to read verse 13. 00:27:14.57\00:27:19.15 A what? a ram. Do you know what a ram is? 00:27:30.68\00:27:33.90 It's a male sheep. 00:27:33.93\00:27:35.07 That's what a ram is. 00:27:35.10\00:27:38.33 Couldn't escape. 00:27:48.06\00:27:49.09 Instead of his son. 00:27:56.83\00:27:59.46 Was there a substitutionary sacrifice on Mount Moriah? 00:27:59.49\00:28:04.54 Yes, there was. In place of Isaac a ram was offered, 00:28:04.57\00:28:11.56 according to this. And then it says in verse 14: 00:28:11.59\00:28:14.07 Jehovah-Jireh in Hebrew. 00:28:19.95\00:28:23.06 Do you know if you look at the diagram of Solomon's temple, 00:28:30.06\00:28:34.51 so called, because it was really the Lord's temple. 00:28:34.54\00:28:37.89 You know we talk about Noah's flood, and Jacob's ladder, 00:28:37.92\00:28:40.52 and Solomon's temple. 00:28:40.55\00:28:42.01 The fact is that it was God's ladder, it was God's flood, 00:28:42.04\00:28:44.88 and it was God's temple. 00:28:44.91\00:28:46.17 But anyway, for the sake of understanding, Solomon's temple 00:28:46.20\00:28:50.39 was built in a direction from east to west. 00:28:50.42\00:28:59.23 The western wall supposedly is still there today. 00:28:59.26\00:29:02.36 And northeast of the temple was what was known 00:29:02.39\00:29:06.84 as the sheep gate. 00:29:06.87\00:29:08.23 And just outside the city, 00:29:08.26\00:29:11.61 I've been there where the sheep gate was. 00:29:11.64\00:29:13.72 Just outside the city to the north and to the east 00:29:13.75\00:29:16.73 is where they kept the sheep that they brought 00:29:16.76\00:29:19.06 for the sacrifices. 00:29:19.09\00:29:20.27 Now if you go to Jerusalem today you'll discover that what 00:29:20.30\00:29:23.34 is north and east of the temple site is the place of the skull 00:29:23.37\00:29:29.93 and the garden tomb, interestingly enough. 00:29:29.96\00:29:34.60 So geographically the very place where Abraham found this ram, 00:29:34.63\00:29:40.39 and offered him on Mount Moriah, is the place where Jesus was 00:29:40.42\00:29:44.44 taken from the sheep gate to die for the sins of the world, 00:29:44.47\00:29:49.02 which was represented by the temple on Mount Moriah. 00:29:49.05\00:29:52.92 Now the question is, did Abraham understand that this story was 00:29:52.95\00:29:57.30 far more profound than just simple history? 00:29:57.33\00:30:00.92 Notice John 8:56, John 8:56. 00:30:00.95\00:30:09.09 Here Jesus is entertaining a conversation with 00:30:09.12\00:30:12.39 the Jewish people, with a group of Jewish people. 00:30:12.42\00:30:15.48 And Jesus says them: 00:30:15.51\00:30:17.56 Did Abraham understand that this whole story actually 00:30:30.94\00:30:35.14 pointed to Jesus Christ the Messiah? Absolutely! 00:30:35.17\00:30:39.86 It says so very clearly here in John 8:56. 00:30:39.89\00:30:44.09 Abraham rejoiced to see my day, and he was glad to see my day. 00:30:44.12\00:30:49.77 By the way, Galatians 3:8 says that God preached the gospel 00:30:49.80\00:30:54.29 to Abraham in the Old Testament; that God was going to justify 00:30:54.32\00:30:59.06 the Gentiles by faith. 00:30:59.09\00:31:00.92 So much for the idea that there was no idea in the Old Testament 00:31:00.95\00:31:06.09 that God was going to save the Gentiles, and He was going to 00:31:06.12\00:31:08.84 establish the Christian church. 00:31:08.87\00:31:10.24 That that was just revealed after Jesus died on the cross, 00:31:10.27\00:31:13.92 on the Day of Pentecost. 00:31:13.95\00:31:14.98 Oh, by the way, I have a Plan B for the church now. 00:31:15.01\00:31:16.94 The fact is that the gospel was preached to Abraham, 00:31:16.97\00:31:19.90 and the idea that the gospel was going to go to the nations was 00:31:19.93\00:31:22.50 already contained when God gave this experience to Abraham. 00:31:22.53\00:31:25.48 Now what is this story really pointing to? 00:31:25.51\00:31:28.65 Before I tell you, I'm going to just mention the four promises 00:31:28.68\00:31:32.39 that God made to Abraham. 00:31:32.42\00:31:33.53 We're not going to read the verses. 00:31:33.56\00:31:35.53 But listen to what I'm going to say. 00:31:35.56\00:31:37.35 It's interesting that every time in the book of Genesis that 00:31:37.38\00:31:42.36 either Abraham, Isaac, or Jacob raised up an altar, immediately 00:31:42.39\00:31:46.62 after they made the sacrifice God makes the promises. 00:31:46.65\00:31:49.84 And when they don't raise up an altar, there was always a 00:31:49.87\00:31:53.61 Messianic prophecy connected with the promises. 00:31:53.64\00:31:56.60 For example, immediately after this story of Genesis 22, 00:31:56.63\00:32:00.70 immediately after, God gives Abraham four promises. 00:32:00.73\00:32:05.52 Immediately after Jacob saw that ladder between heaven 00:32:05.55\00:32:10.23 and earth, you find God giving him the promises. 00:32:10.26\00:32:13.07 What God was trying to teach is that the promises were going 00:32:13.10\00:32:17.15 to come through the Messiah, through the sacrifice, 00:32:17.18\00:32:20.99 through Him who was truly Jacob's ladder, 00:32:21.02\00:32:24.89 through Him who truly is represented by Isaac. 00:32:24.92\00:32:28.75 Now let's make the parallel between what happened on 00:32:28.78\00:32:33.50 Mount Moriah, and what happened with Jesus. 00:32:33.53\00:32:36.30 By the way, the four promises that God made to Abraham: 00:32:36.33\00:32:40.39 1. He promised that Abraham's, and his seed, 00:32:40.42\00:32:44.85 would have dominion over their enemies. 00:32:44.88\00:32:47.14 Interesting. Is that what Adam lost? 00:32:47.17\00:32:50.67 What was going to be restored through the seed? 00:32:50.70\00:32:53.53 dominion. That's in Genesis 22: 17 immediately after this story. 00:32:53.56\00:32:57.95 The second thing that God promised Abraham: 00:32:57.98\00:33:00.40 He promised him the land. 00:33:00.43\00:33:02.66 And most Christians that study this assume that God was 00:33:02.69\00:33:05.82 promising Abraham that little strip of land in the 00:33:05.85\00:33:07.88 Middle East known as Israel. 00:33:07.91\00:33:09.31 But the fact is that Abraham understood that that was 00:33:09.34\00:33:11.94 only a down payment. 00:33:11.97\00:33:13.06 That was only a little sample of what God really 00:33:13.09\00:33:17.11 was promising Abraham. 00:33:17.14\00:33:18.34 Because in Romans 4:13 it says that God promised Abraham 00:33:18.37\00:33:22.97 that he would be the heir of the world. 00:33:23.00\00:33:24.90 In Hebrews chapter 11 it says that Abraham, 00:33:24.93\00:33:27.75 and all of the other heroes up to the time of Abraham, 00:33:27.78\00:33:30.42 they did not consider Canaan their homeland. 00:33:30.45\00:33:33.81 It says that they looked for a city whose builder 00:33:33.84\00:33:37.41 and maker was God. 00:33:37.44\00:33:38.55 And when they left their country it says that they knew that they 00:33:38.58\00:33:42.28 were searching for a homeland, a heavenly homeland. 00:33:42.31\00:33:45.96 In other words, Abraham was not looking for Jerusalem 00:33:45.99\00:33:48.75 as the fulfillment of God's promise. 00:33:48.78\00:33:50.59 He wasn't looking at that little strip of land. 00:33:50.62\00:33:52.68 Actually, God was promising Abraham that he would have 00:33:52.71\00:33:55.44 dominion over all of the enemies, including the devil; 00:33:55.47\00:33:58.84 that he was going to also inherit all of the earth. 00:33:58.87\00:34:03.96 And, by the way, God also promised Abraham that 00:34:03.99\00:34:07.19 through his seed the blessing would come 00:34:07.22\00:34:10.14 to counteract the curse. 00:34:10.17\00:34:11.58 Do you see how this is counteracting what we have 00:34:11.61\00:34:13.40 in Genesis chapter 1, what we read? 00:34:13.43\00:34:15.63 dominion, the earth, the blessing, an innumerable 00:34:15.66\00:34:21.47 multitude of righteous people? 00:34:21.51\00:34:24.77 So God says to Abraham, Now, as a result of this experience, 00:34:24.80\00:34:29.50 and what it means, I'm telling you that you're going to have 00:34:29.53\00:34:32.30 dominion through your seed over the enemies. 00:34:32.33\00:34:34.51 That you are going to recover the earth through your seed. 00:34:34.54\00:34:38.02 That you are going to have a blessing come to humanity 00:34:38.05\00:34:43.53 through that seed, and that you are also going to have a group 00:34:43.56\00:34:48.19 of people that no man can number, 00:34:48.22\00:34:51.39 like the stars of heaven, according to the promise. 00:34:51.43\00:34:54.92 And so what God is telling Abraham is that what was lost 00:34:54.95\00:34:58.69 by Adam and Eve, is going to be restored 00:34:58.72\00:35:01.44 through Abraham and his seed. 00:35:01.47\00:35:03.48 Now we need to understand that Abraham 00:35:03.51\00:35:04.89 is not the key figure. 00:35:04.92\00:35:05.95 Abraham is only mentioned as bringing these things because 00:35:05.98\00:35:12.16 from Abraham comes Jesus. 00:35:12.19\00:35:15.35 Abraham could never bring these things. 00:35:15.38\00:35:17.88 The devil defeated him because Abraham lied. 00:35:17.91\00:35:21.69 Abraham was a bigamist. 00:35:21.72\00:35:27.61 Are you following me? 00:35:27.64\00:35:31.49 So Abraham is only central insofar as he's the instrument 00:35:31.52\00:35:36.17 that God uses to bring the Seed into the world, to recover and 00:35:36.20\00:35:39.97 restore that which was lost. 00:35:40.00\00:35:41.73 Now let's do the parallel of this story. 00:35:41.76\00:35:43.98 We're not going to read all of the verses. 00:35:44.01\00:35:45.16 You have them written down. 00:35:45.19\00:35:46.22 But I'm going to tell you the content of each verse. 00:35:46.25\00:35:48.74 Matthew 1:18 says that Jesus was born according to the 00:35:48.77\00:35:54.41 action of the Holy Sprit. 00:35:54.44\00:35:55.68 He's the child of the Holy Spirit. 00:35:55.71\00:35:58.52 He was conceived by the Holy Spirit. 00:35:58.55\00:36:01.69 According to Mark 1:11, when Jesus was baptized the words 00:36:01.72\00:36:08.06 were heard from heaven that said, This is my what?... 00:36:08.09\00:36:12.65 Furthermore, in John 3:16, that verse that everybody can repeat 00:36:20.89\00:36:24.75 from memory. The most famous verse of the Bible. It says: 00:36:24.78\00:36:27.59 So is Jesus conceived by the work of the Holy Spirit 00:36:40.17\00:36:44.37 like Isaac? Absolutely! 00:36:44.40\00:36:46.02 Was Jesus the beloved Son? 00:36:46.05\00:36:49.79 Actually, the Father said it twice in the ministry of Jesus. 00:36:49.82\00:36:52.57 Once again on the Mount of Transfiguration the words 00:36:52.60\00:36:55.67 were heard, This is My beloved Son; hear ye Him. 00:36:55.70\00:37:01.05 And Jesus is the only begotten Son. 00:37:01.08\00:37:04.11 Now He's not the only Son that God the Father has, 00:37:04.14\00:37:07.45 but He is the unique Son, the special Son. 00:37:07.48\00:37:10.62 He's the Son of the promise, the Son through whom all of the 00:37:10.65\00:37:14.47 promises given to Abraham will be fulfilled. 00:37:14.50\00:37:17.83 By the way, do you know that the sacrifice of Christ was offered 00:37:17.86\00:37:21.69 as a burnt offering, which had a sweet smelling savor to God? 00:37:21.72\00:37:26.16 Notice Ephesians 5:2, Ephesians 5:2. 00:37:26.19\00:37:34.49 The apostle Paul says: 00:37:34.52\00:37:35.91 ...to whom? to His Father. Notice: 00:37:50.11\00:37:54.87 Now let me ask you, how long did the ordeal of Christ 00:38:01.65\00:38:06.16 and His Father last? 00:38:06.19\00:38:07.36 Matthew 12:40 speaks about the ordeal of Jesus lasting 00:38:07.39\00:38:16.75 how long? three days and three nights. 00:38:16.78\00:38:21.02 Three days and three nights! 00:38:21.05\00:38:23.79 God the Father, and Jesus His Son, agonized. 00:38:23.82\00:38:28.41 The Father struggling with the idea of delivering up His Son. 00:38:28.44\00:38:33.57 Three days, just like the in the Old Testament story. 00:38:33.60\00:38:39.28 Now let me ask you, did Jesus place Himself submissively 00:38:39.31\00:38:43.97 in the hands of His Father? 00:38:44.00\00:38:45.25 He most certainly did. 00:38:45.28\00:38:47.46 You have, for example, in the Garden of Gethsemane. 00:38:47.49\00:38:51.07 By the way, do you notice that Isaac said in Genesis 22, 00:38:51.10\00:38:56.46 My father, here's the wood and the fire, 00:38:56.49\00:39:02.09 but where is the offering? 00:39:02.12\00:39:05.29 Where's the sacrifice? 00:39:05.32\00:39:06.35 Where's the animal? 00:39:06.38\00:39:07.66 Isaac addressed his father as my father. 00:39:07.69\00:39:12.16 When you go to Matthew 26 you find Jesus saying, 00:39:12.19\00:39:19.79 My Father, if this cup can pass from Me, let it be so. 00:39:19.82\00:39:26.86 If I could escape from having to give My life from suffering, 00:39:26.89\00:39:32.55 Father may it be so. 00:39:32.58\00:39:35.05 My Father, He said three times He prays this prayer. 00:39:35.08\00:39:37.85 My Father, He says, Nevertheless, not My 00:39:37.88\00:39:42.16 will be done but Yours. 00:39:42.19\00:39:44.72 Jesus, though He could have escaped, presented Himself 00:39:44.75\00:39:49.58 into the hands of His Father submissively. 00:39:49.61\00:39:53.70 By the way, who bore the wood? 00:39:53.73\00:39:58.20 Go with me to John 19:17. 00:39:58.23\00:40:00.83 Of course all of this is no coincidence. 00:40:00.86\00:40:02.58 I say that facetiously, incidentally. 00:40:02.61\00:40:07.02 We have here prophecy, folks. 00:40:07.05\00:40:09.29 The center of this story is Jesus. 00:40:09.33\00:40:11.64 Now notice John 19:17. It says: 00:40:11.67\00:40:16.04 What was the cross made of? wood. 00:40:23.20\00:40:26.50 So who bore the wood? 00:40:39.05\00:40:40.78 Who was nailed to the wood? 00:40:40.82\00:40:43.75 Jesus, by His own consent, by His own willingness, 00:40:43.78\00:40:47.98 He presented Himself into the hands of His Father. 00:40:48.02\00:40:51.82 Now let me ask you, who actually was executing 00:40:51.85\00:40:55.62 the sentence upon Christ? 00:40:55.65\00:40:58.05 Go with me to Isaiah 53, Isaiah 53. 00:40:58.09\00:41:03.62 This is a very well known Messianic prophecy. 00:41:03.66\00:41:07.30 You see, like Abraham bore the knife and the fire, 00:41:07.33\00:41:11.21 He was the one who was going to execute His Son. 00:41:11.24\00:41:14.32 The one who turned against Jesus was His own Father, 00:41:14.36\00:41:17.44 because Jesus was occupying the place 00:41:17.47\00:41:19.92 that I should have had. 00:41:19.95\00:41:22.19 Now notice Isaiah 53:4: 00:41:22.23\00:41:24.44 Jesus suffered under the sentence of His own Father. 00:41:39.51\00:41:42.98 His Father raised His hand against Him. 00:41:43.01\00:41:46.13 And the hand of the Father was not stayed in the case of Jesus. 00:41:46.16\00:41:50.39 The Father followed all the way through. 00:41:50.43\00:41:53.08 Now why did Jesus do this? 00:41:53.11\00:41:55.23 Remember that on the mountain, the name of the mountain was 00:41:55.26\00:41:58.08 Yahweh-Yireh, the Lord will provide. 00:41:58.12\00:42:01.13 For whom did Jesus do this? Notice verse 5: 00:42:01.16\00:42:05.53 In other words, Jesus is the great substitute, 00:42:21.31\00:42:24.17 the one that was offered in our place, so that we do not have 00:42:24.20\00:42:29.05 to suffer the death sentence. 00:42:29.09\00:42:31.44 Notice 2 Corinthians 5:21 on this point. 00:42:31.48\00:42:36.21 The apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:21 speaks these 00:42:36.24\00:42:42.27 marvelous words. He says: 00:42:42.30\00:42:44.16 See, the One who knew no sin the Father make sin. 00:42:56.06\00:42:59.94 By the way, do you know that when Jesus suffered on the cross 00:43:08.05\00:43:14.12 there were witnesses who watched it from afar off? 00:43:14.15\00:43:17.98 Go with me to Mark 15:40, Mark 15:40. 00:43:18.01\00:43:25.13 See, this is a reenaction of the story that we find on 00:43:25.16\00:43:29.01 Mount Moriah, only what happened on Mount Moriah is a shadow 00:43:29.05\00:43:32.27 or a figure, of what Jesus did for the whole human race. 00:43:32.31\00:43:35.50 Mark 15:40 says this: 00:43:35.54\00:43:40.24 The same expression! 00:43:45.03\00:43:47.11 So there were witnesses contemplating this from afar. 00:43:54.79\00:43:59.07 What day of the week did Jesus resurrect? 00:43:59.10\00:44:02.63 The first day of the week. 00:44:02.67\00:44:03.97 But what was the day with reference to His sufferings? 00:44:04.00\00:44:07.32 It was the third day. 00:44:07.36\00:44:08.91 Did Abraham receive Isaac back resurrected 00:44:08.94\00:44:13.11 in figure on the third day? 00:44:13.14\00:44:14.88 Did we find that expression in Hebrews 11? Yes. 00:44:14.91\00:44:17.40 Now notice what the apostle Paul says in 00:44:17.43\00:44:19.38 1 Corinthians 15:3, 4, 1 Corinthians 15:3, 4. 00:44:19.41\00:44:27.78 Here the apostle Paul says this: 00:44:27.81\00:44:30.05 Do you suppose that one of those scriptures was the story of 00:44:46.25\00:44:48.64 Genesis 22, that indicated that He was going to resurrect 00:44:48.67\00:44:51.53 on the third day? Hebrews 11 seems to indicate so. 00:44:51.56\00:44:55.15 That the fact that Jesus was resurrected the third day is 00:44:55.18\00:44:59.31 foreshadowed in the story of Genesis 22. 00:44:59.35\00:45:01.76 And, by the way, it's also foreshadowed in the story of 00:45:01.79\00:45:04.63 Jonah, where he was in the belly of the great fish 00:45:04.67\00:45:08.46 three days and three nights, and the third day the great fish 00:45:08.50\00:45:13.19 cast him out. See, he couldn't even stand this prophet. 00:45:13.22\00:45:17.43 Not even the fish! 00:45:17.46\00:45:18.60 The fish got indigestion! 00:45:18.63\00:45:19.94 Because this prophet was a bitter man, and so he spewed 00:45:19.97\00:45:23.77 him out on the third day. 00:45:23.81\00:45:25.21 And he lived in spite of the fact that he'd been in that 00:45:25.25\00:45:29.21 tomb, so to speak, for three days and three nights. 00:45:29.24\00:45:33.49 Notice Romans 8:32, Romans 8:32. 00:45:33.52\00:45:37.75 Can you imagine, folks, what it must have been like for God 00:45:37.78\00:45:40.34 the Father to raise His hand against His 00:45:40.37\00:45:42.08 own Son in our place? 00:45:42.11\00:45:44.89 The Lord will provide, as a substitute for our sins? 00:45:44.92\00:45:49.16 Notice what we find in Romans 8:32. 00:45:49.19\00:45:54.08 Here it speaks about what the Father did with His own Son. 00:45:54.11\00:45:58.39 We're told there by the apostle Paul this: 00:45:58.42\00:46:02.08 See that breathes what we find in Genesis 22. 00:46:07.66\00:46:11.51 Do you see the idea of substitution there? 00:46:18.30\00:46:20.89 Do you also see that it's the Father who is delivering up 00:46:20.92\00:46:24.63 His special Son? It says, He who did not spare His own Son, 00:46:24.67\00:46:28.34 but delivered Him up for us all, 00:46:28.37\00:46:30.64 That is with Jesus. 00:46:34.06\00:46:35.42 Who is at the center of the story of Isaac and Abraham? 00:46:41.11\00:46:45.05 At the very center of this story is Jesus Christ. 00:46:45.08\00:46:49.43 Now do you remember the four promises that 00:46:49.47\00:46:51.76 God made to Abraham? 00:46:51.79\00:46:52.82 First of all He made the promise that through Abraham 00:46:52.85\00:46:56.41 and his seed dominion would be restored. 00:46:56.44\00:46:59.10 Secondly He promised that through Abraham and his seed 00:46:59.13\00:47:02.69 the earth would be recovered. 00:47:02.72\00:47:04.64 Third He promised that through the seed of Abraham a blessing 00:47:04.67\00:47:08.74 would come upon the human race to counteract the curse. 00:47:08.78\00:47:12.21 And He promised that through Abraham a multiplicity of seed, 00:47:12.24\00:47:16.52 which no one can number, would come as a result 00:47:16.55\00:47:21.16 of Abraham and his seed. 00:47:21.19\00:47:22.89 Now let me ask you, were those promises made to the Jewish 00:47:22.93\00:47:27.80 nation, or were they made for the human race through Jesus? 00:47:27.84\00:47:32.68 Actually, the promises are centered in Christ. 00:47:32.72\00:47:35.75 You see the churches miss the point when 00:47:35.79\00:47:38.00 they center on Israel. 00:47:38.04\00:47:39.91 They say, God has to give the land to Israel. 00:47:39.95\00:47:41.64 He has to bless Israel, literal Israel, I'm referring to. 00:47:41.68\00:47:45.52 He has to restore the land to Israel. 00:47:45.56\00:47:48.51 He's got to defeat the enemies of Israel. 00:47:48.54\00:47:51.42 The fact is it's Jesus who fulfills these promises 00:47:51.46\00:47:54.85 with the whole human race, not only with one people. 00:47:54.88\00:47:58.24 Now notice Galatians 3:16. 00:47:58.28\00:48:02.00 Prophecy is not centered in Israel. 00:48:02.03\00:48:04.35 Prophecy is centered in Jesus. 00:48:04.39\00:48:05.87 Notice Galatians 3:16. 00:48:05.90\00:48:10.23 To whom were the promises made, and in whom are they fulfilled? 00:48:10.26\00:48:14.52 It says there: 00:48:14.55\00:48:15.58 To whom were the promises made? 00:48:33.09\00:48:34.77 They were made to Abraham and his seed. 00:48:34.80\00:48:37.80 And who is that seed? 00:48:37.83\00:48:39.42 That Seed is Jesus Christ. 00:48:39.46\00:48:42.40 This is the reason why the apostle Paul says in 00:48:42.44\00:48:44.69 2 Corinthians 1:20, He says that: 00:48:44.72\00:48:47.55 In Jesus. Never for Israel without Jesus. 00:48:51.86\00:48:56.40 Only fulfilled in and through Jesus Christ. 00:48:56.43\00:49:00.91 Did you know, by the way, that these four promises that God 00:49:00.94\00:49:05.21 made to Abraham will be fulfilled through Jesus? 00:49:05.24\00:49:07.68 Let me just mention several verses here, 00:49:07.72\00:49:11.47 as we draw this to a close. 00:49:11.51\00:49:13.98 Luke 1:71-73. When the birth of Jesus was announced 00:49:14.01\00:49:20.18 in the temple the Priest said, he praised the Lord. 00:49:20.22\00:49:26.36 He said, God has sent us a Seed of Abraham to deliver us 00:49:26.39\00:49:32.07 from the hand of our enemies. 00:49:32.10\00:49:33.88 So who delivers from the enemies? 00:49:33.91\00:49:37.59 F16's?, military power? No! 00:49:37.63\00:49:45.09 Through Jesus, it says, the enemies would be subdued. 00:49:45.13\00:49:49.85 By the way, that means dominion. 00:49:49.88\00:49:53.42 And Daniel 7:26, 27 says that Jesus will recover the dominion 00:49:53.46\00:49:57.25 of the whole world, and He will restore dominion to His people. 00:49:57.28\00:50:01.04 Dominion will be given to the Saints of the Most High. 00:50:01.07\00:50:06.17 God also promised Abraham that he would inherit the world. 00:50:06.21\00:50:11.19 Through whom does he inherit the world? 00:50:11.22\00:50:13.90 By divine right? Because they happen to belong 00:50:13.93\00:50:18.91 to a certain people, or a certain nation, they're going 00:50:18.94\00:50:21.31 to be given the earth, or the land? No. 00:50:21.35\00:50:24.56 This is only fulfilled through whom? 00:50:24.60\00:50:27.39 It is only fulfilled through Jesus Christ. 00:50:27.42\00:50:30.95 Because all of the promises are yea and amen in Jesus. 00:50:30.98\00:50:35.04 All of the promises have been made to Christ. 00:50:35.08\00:50:38.43 The meek shall inherit the earth. 00:50:38.46\00:50:41.85 But they inherit the earth because of what Jesus has done. 00:50:41.89\00:50:45.99 Jesus is at the very center. 00:50:46.02\00:50:48.29 By the way, who removes the curse? 00:50:48.32\00:50:53.08 Galatians 3:13, 14 says that we have been saved from the curse. 00:50:53.12\00:51:03.71 Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the law, 00:51:03.74\00:51:07.46 having become for us a curse; taking our sins upon Himself. 00:51:07.49\00:51:15.63 And then verse 14 says: 00:51:15.66\00:51:18.03 That the blessing of Abraham might come upon 00:51:18.07\00:51:21.81 all those who believe. 00:51:21.85\00:51:23.69 How is it that the blessing of Abraham comes upon all of those 00:51:23.72\00:51:27.33 who believe? How is the curse removed? 00:51:27.36\00:51:29.30 It's removed by receiving Jesus and accepting Him in my place 00:51:29.33\00:51:34.96 as He who was cursed for my sins. 00:51:34.99\00:51:37.59 The curse is removed through Jesus. 00:51:37.62\00:51:40.22 The earth is restored through Jesus. 00:51:40.25\00:51:43.21 The blessing is restored through Jesus. 00:51:43.25\00:51:46.25 Dominion is restored through Jesus. 00:51:46.29\00:51:49.22 By the way, is there going to be a great multitude of redeemed 00:51:49.25\00:51:52.59 people that no one can number, in fulfillment of the 00:51:52.63\00:51:55.49 prophecy given to Abraham? 00:51:55.99\00:51:57.31 You've read Revelation 7:9, where John sees a great 00:51:57.34\00:52:02.15 multitude which no man could number, 00:52:02.18\00:52:04.84 from every nation, kindred, tongue, and people. 00:52:04.87\00:52:09.12 And a little bit later on it explains how these individuals 00:52:09.15\00:52:14.11 got to be in heaven. 00:52:14.14\00:52:16.44 It says that they have washed their robes, and they have made 00:52:16.47\00:52:21.36 them white in the blood of the lamb. 00:52:21.39\00:52:24.44 So the innumerable host comes as a result of what 00:52:24.47\00:52:29.72 Jesus has done. 00:52:29.75\00:52:31.03 The removal of the curse, is as a result of what Jesus does. 00:52:31.07\00:52:34.31 It says in the heavenly city there will no longer be any 00:52:34.35\00:52:37.56 curse. The meek will inherit the earth. 00:52:37.59\00:52:40.33 The meek will have dominion over the earth. 00:52:40.37\00:52:43.08 The earth will be restored. 00:52:43.11\00:52:44.35 But none of this is given to Israel as a literal nation. 00:52:44.39\00:52:48.53 It is given to those who receive Jesus. 00:52:48.56\00:52:51.33 They are fulfilled only in and through Jesus Christ. 00:52:51.37\00:52:56.69 Now, go with me to Galatians 3:29, Galatians 3:29. 00:52:56.73\00:53:02.02 You know, there's a lot of speculation today in Bible 00:53:02.05\00:53:05.96 prophecy. People say, oh, yeah, you know, God is going to 00:53:06.00\00:53:09.87 fulfill all of His promises to the literal Jews 00:53:09.91\00:53:12.09 over there in Israel. 00:53:12.12\00:53:13.15 You know, there are people that are blessed by God. 00:53:15.59\00:53:18.67 And, you know, God has given them a multiplicity 00:53:18.70\00:53:21.80 of descendents. And God has given them the land. 00:53:21.84\00:53:25.56 And there's all kinds of talk along this line. 00:53:25.60\00:53:29.25 But let me ask you, are these really the promises given to 00:53:29.29\00:53:32.12 Abraham, which are fulfilled with the literal Jewish people? 00:53:32.15\00:53:34.95 Absolutely not! Notice Galatians 3:29. 00:53:34.99\00:53:38.89 Very important verse! 00:53:38.93\00:53:40.17 Galatians 3:29. The apostle Paul says this: 00:53:40.21\00:53:45.66 If you are what? Christ's. 00:53:57.24\00:54:00.30 I guess that disqualifies everyone in the Middle East 00:54:08.44\00:54:13.47 who rejects Christ. 00:54:13.50\00:54:14.61 Because it says clearly in this verse that those who are 00:54:14.64\00:54:20.09 Christ's are Abraham's seed. 00:54:20.12\00:54:22.84 And they inherit the promises through Jesus. 00:54:22.88\00:54:26.39 So what happened in 1948 has no prophetic significance. 00:54:26.43\00:54:30.27 And what the churches are saying is being fulfilled over 00:54:33.36\00:54:37.90 there in the Middle East is no fulfillment of any prophecy, 00:54:37.94\00:54:42.44 or any promise of God. 00:54:42.48\00:54:43.85 Because scripture says that all of the promises are Yea, 00:54:43.88\00:54:47.56 and Amen in Jesus, the Seed. 00:54:47.59\00:54:50.64 No promise is fulfilled outside Jesus. 00:54:50.67\00:54:53.74 If you join Jesus the promises are yours. 00:54:53.78\00:54:56.78 If you are not in Christ, the promises are not yours. 00:54:56.81\00:55:00.77 So is it just possible that the religious world today 00:55:00.81\00:55:05.50 is focusing in, wrongly, upon Israel as the fulfillment 00:55:05.53\00:55:10.19 of prophecy rather than those who have received Christ 00:55:10.22\00:55:14.37 as the fulfillment of prophecy. 00:55:14.40\00:55:16.92 I believe so. Now let's go to Galatians 4:6, 7. 00:55:16.95\00:55:25.24 This will be our last verse. 00:55:25.27\00:55:27.73 Galatians 4:6, 7, and actually, we'll read verses 4 through 7 00:55:27.77\00:55:37.48 so that we can catch the context. 00:55:37.51\00:55:39.09 It says here: But when the fullness of the time had come, 00:55:39.12\00:55:44.11 God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 00:55:44.14\00:55:48.97 to redeem those who were under the law that we might receive 00:55:49.00\00:55:53.79 the adoption as sons. 00:55:53.83\00:55:55.50 And because you are sons God has sent forth the Spirit 00:55:55.53\00:56:00.61 of his Son into your hearts crying out, Abba, Father. 00:56:00.64\00:56:05.43 Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son. 00:56:05.46\00:56:10.93 And if, now notice this, and if a Son then an heir 00:56:10.97\00:56:16.44 of God through Christ. 00:56:16.47\00:56:17.52 What do we need to become in order to inherit the promises? 00:56:17.56\00:56:23.61 We have to become sons and daughters of God. 00:56:23.65\00:56:26.08 How do we become sons and daughters of God? 00:56:26.11\00:56:28.51 In the previous chapter the apostle Paul says that all those 00:56:28.54\00:56:32.97 who have been baptized into Christ, have put on Christ. 00:56:33.00\00:56:35.68 He says that we are Sons of God through Jesus Christ 00:56:35.71\00:56:39.71 in verses 26 and 27 of Galatians 3. 00:56:39.74\00:56:42.69 And so we must receive Jesus. 00:56:42.73\00:56:45.13 In this way we become His brothers and sisters, 00:56:45.16\00:56:48.06 and thus through Him, we are Sons and Daughters of God, 00:56:48.09\00:56:50.94 and through Jesus, according to Galatians 4:7, we inherit what? 00:56:50.97\00:56:55.82 all of the promises of God through Him. 00:56:55.86\00:56:58.78 We will live in that land restored to the redeemed. 00:56:58.81\00:57:02.45 We will once again have dominion over the earth. 00:57:02.48\00:57:06.08 We will live in a place where there's no longer any curse. 00:57:06.11\00:57:09.07 And God's people, from every nation, kindred, tongue, 00:57:09.11\00:57:12.78 and people, an innumerable host, will be there redeemed, 00:57:12.81\00:57:16.44 and will be able to live with Jesus forever and ever. 00:57:16.47\00:57:21.71 Isn't this good news? 00:57:21.74\00:57:23.93
