Shall we bow our heads for prayer? 00:01:11.93\00:01:13.75 Father in heaven, As we study this very important lecture 00:01:13.78\00:01:21.64 tonight, two devastating end time deceptions, we ask for the 00:01:21.67\00:01:28.40 guidance of Your Holy Spirit. 00:01:28.43\00:01:31.02 Give us clear minds, and Lord, give us tender hearts 00:01:31.05\00:01:35.90 to understand, and to receive, that which You have for us. 00:01:35.93\00:01:41.62 Help us to set aside any preconceived notions, 00:01:41.65\00:01:45.42 and ideas, and help us to hear Your voice, and only Your voice. 00:01:45.45\00:01:50.31 We pray this in the precious name of Jesus, 00:01:50.34\00:01:53.41 Your beloved Son, Amen. 00:01:53.44\00:01:56.07 As I mentioned in my prayer, this evening we are going 00:01:56.10\00:02:04.18 to study two devastating end time deceptions which have 00:02:04.21\00:02:10.46 captivated almost the entire world. 00:02:10.49\00:02:14.67 And when I say the entire world, I'm not only speaking about the 00:02:14.70\00:02:18.79 secular world, I'm speaking also about the religious world. 00:02:18.82\00:02:24.89 Most of the religious world has accepted, and teaches these 00:02:24.92\00:02:33.00 two devastating errors that Satan has prepared 00:02:33.03\00:02:37.47 to deceive the whole world in the end time. 00:02:37.50\00:02:40.23 Now these two errors are very closely related one to another. 00:02:40.26\00:02:45.92 They are two separate errors, but they are not independent. 00:02:45.95\00:02:50.86 They are interlinked, which means that if you believe one 00:02:50.89\00:02:54.79 of the errors, you will automatically believe the other, 00:02:54.82\00:02:57.78 because they are very, very closely connected, 00:02:57.81\00:03:03.00 and if you teach one, you will automatically teach 00:03:03.03\00:03:07.77 the other as well. 00:03:07.81\00:03:09.10 Lets begin our study in the book of Romans 3:20, 00:03:09.13\00:03:17.28 Romans 3:20. And the point that I want to underline now 00:03:17.31\00:03:23.87 as we read this verse, is that if there is no law, 00:03:23.90\00:03:30.22 there can be no sin. 00:03:30.25\00:03:33.45 This is the first point. 00:03:33.48\00:03:34.58 We're going to follow a very logical order in our study 00:03:34.61\00:03:38.20 today, so don't get distracted. 00:03:38.23\00:03:41.13 Don't go to sleep on me, because if you just dose off 00:03:41.16\00:03:44.76 for a couple of minutes, you're going to lose the sequence 00:03:44.79\00:03:47.97 of what we're going to study. 00:03:48.00\00:03:49.45 My first point is that if there is no law there can be no sin. 00:03:49.48\00:03:56.83 Now go with me, as I mentioned, to Romans 3:20. 00:03:56.86\00:04:02.53 The apostle Paul says: 00:04:02.56\00:04:04.66 How do we know sin? by the law. 00:04:17.39\00:04:21.57 By the law is the knowledge of sin. 00:04:21.60\00:04:25.10 So if you don't have the law, you wouldn't have 00:04:25.13\00:04:28.07 the knowledge of sin. 00:04:28.10\00:04:29.47 Now lets go also to Romans 4:15, Romans 4:15. 00:04:29.50\00:04:39.00 Here we find the same basic idea, but in different words. 00:04:39.03\00:04:42.80 It says there... The apostle Paul once again is writing. 00:04:42.83\00:04:46.48 He says: Because the law... 00:04:46.51\00:04:48.96 And some people say, See, the law is bad 00:04:51.24\00:04:54.39 because it brings about wrath. 00:04:54.42\00:04:55.72 Now wait a minute. 00:04:55.75\00:04:56.83 Why does the law bring wrath? 00:04:56.86\00:04:59.47 The law brings wrath because we are what? 00:04:59.50\00:05:03.63 Because we are sinners. 00:05:03.66\00:05:05.74 If we were not sinners the law would say, you are okay. 00:05:05.77\00:05:10.22 The law brings wrath because we are sinners. 00:05:10.25\00:05:13.98 So notice, it says, because the law brings about wrath. 00:05:14.01\00:05:18.88 And now notice, for where there is no law 00:05:18.91\00:05:23.13 there is no transgression. 00:05:23.16\00:05:26.21 Can you break a law that does not exist? Of course not! 00:05:26.24\00:05:32.32 You know, if you come to a corner and there's no stop sign, 00:05:32.35\00:05:36.59 and you go through the intersection, and a policeman 00:05:36.62\00:05:39.76 stops you, and wants to give you a ticket, you can tell 00:05:39.79\00:05:42.98 the officer, Listen officer, you can't give me a ticket, 00:05:43.01\00:05:47.25 because there is no stop sign. 00:05:47.28\00:05:49.26 It's only when there's a stop sign, and I violate that 00:05:49.29\00:05:53.01 stop sign, that the officer has the right to give me a ticket. 00:05:53.04\00:05:56.74 Are you understanding what I am saying? 00:05:56.77\00:05:58.84 So, in other words, the law points out sin. 00:05:58.87\00:06:03.29 If there is no law, there can be no sin. 00:06:03.32\00:06:07.65 Let me give you an illustration. 00:06:07.68\00:06:10.08 Supposing you go to the office of an Oncologist, 00:06:10.11\00:06:15.03 because you haven't been feeling too well. 00:06:15.06\00:06:17.39 The Oncologist examines you very meticulously, 00:06:17.42\00:06:21.91 very carefully, runs some tests on you, and after running 00:06:21.94\00:06:25.95 the tests he says, I'm sorry to tell you that you have cancer. 00:06:25.98\00:06:33.39 Now I pray to God that this wouldn't 00:06:33.42\00:06:37.13 happen with anyone here. 00:06:37.16\00:06:38.34 This is just an illustration. 00:06:38.37\00:06:39.74 But he says, after examining you carefully, you have cancer. 00:06:39.77\00:06:45.14 Now let me ask you, is that doctor doing me a favor? 00:06:45.17\00:06:48.88 Do you think the solution to the problem would be to take a 00:06:48.91\00:06:54.65 baseball bat and kill the doctor? 00:06:54.68\00:06:56.83 Is getting rid of the doctor the solution to the problem? 00:06:56.86\00:07:01.63 Of course not! The doctor points out that I'm sick. 00:07:01.66\00:07:05.96 If there was no doctor to examine me, I would not 00:07:05.99\00:07:11.36 know that I'm sick, and I would not know that I need someone 00:07:11.39\00:07:15.24 to heal my illness. 00:07:15.27\00:07:17.36 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:07:17.39\00:07:19.26 In other words, where there is no law, I don't know sin. 00:07:19.29\00:07:22.16 I don't know I'm sick, and by the way, therefore I will not 00:07:22.19\00:07:26.24 seek a solution to sin. 00:07:26.27\00:07:28.03 I will not seek a Savior if I don't feel that I'm sick, 00:07:28.06\00:07:31.16 because the law tells me that I am sick. 00:07:31.19\00:07:33.36 Now go with me to Romans 7:7 on this same point. 00:07:33.39\00:07:38.25 Romans 7:7. Here the apostle Paul uses the example of a 00:07:38.28\00:07:44.95 specific commandment. 00:07:44.98\00:07:46.68 He says this in Romans 7:7. 00:07:46.71\00:07:49.39 Says the apostle Paul. 00:07:58.07\00:07:59.75 How do we know sin? through the law, it says here. 00:08:07.39\00:08:11.96 How would I know that covetousness is wrong, 00:08:19.94\00:08:22.35 if there wasn't a law that says: Thou shalt not covet? 00:08:22.38\00:08:25.94 It's the law that shows me that covetousness is wrong. 00:08:25.97\00:08:30.29 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:08:30.32\00:08:31.71 So if there is no law, there can be no sin, because the law 00:08:31.74\00:08:36.63 defines, and points out sin. 00:08:36.66\00:08:39.84 Allow me to give you another illustration so this is clear. 00:08:39.87\00:08:43.70 Many, many years ago I went to the Seminary in Michigan. 00:08:43.73\00:08:47.72 And I had to hold down three jobs to be able to study. 00:08:47.75\00:08:52.15 You know, people who go to school have to do that. 00:08:52.18\00:08:54.70 And one of my jobs was working at the furniture factory. 00:08:54.73\00:08:58.82 The name of it was College Wood Products, and my job was after 00:08:58.85\00:09:02.53 hours I would have to clean out the chimney. 00:09:02.56\00:09:05.41 You know, they had these spray machines where they would spray 00:09:05.44\00:09:09.51 varnish on the furniture, and the excess paint would be sucked 00:09:09.54\00:09:14.51 up by a fan into the chimney, and the paint would gather 00:09:14.54\00:09:19.74 on the sides of the chimney inside like dust. 00:09:19.77\00:09:23.57 And it actually gathered quite a bit of dust. 00:09:23.60\00:09:26.53 So every day, at the end of the day I would have to go up the 00:09:26.56\00:09:29.61 chimney with a spatula, and I would have to clean the chimney. 00:09:29.64\00:09:33.32 I remember that they provided this green mechanics suit, 00:09:33.35\00:09:37.38 and the first day that I went, I went up the stairs, 00:09:37.41\00:09:41.83 because it had a stairs right up the middle of the chimney, 00:09:41.86\00:09:43.92 and I was scraping off all of the excess paint. 00:09:43.95\00:09:47.58 And I had a mask on, but there was dust going 00:09:47.61\00:09:51.04 all over the place. 00:09:51.07\00:09:52.10 Finished the job, got down, went home, and when I got to the door 00:09:52.13\00:09:59.74 of the house I knocked. 00:09:59.77\00:10:01.82 My wife opened the door, and when she saw me at the door 00:10:01.85\00:10:07.07 she was frightened. 00:10:07.10\00:10:08.87 She said, What happened to you? 00:10:08.90\00:10:11.17 And I said, What do you mean, what happened to me? 00:10:11.20\00:10:15.26 I've been cleaning the chimney. 00:10:15.29\00:10:16.92 She said, Have you looked at yourself in the mirror? 00:10:16.95\00:10:20.91 I said, No, I didn't think about doing it. 00:10:20.94\00:10:23.46 I cleaned the chimney and I came right home. 00:10:23.49\00:10:25.35 She said, You should have looked 00:10:25.38\00:10:26.93 at yourself in the mirror! 00:10:26.96\00:10:28.68 And so I went to the bathroom, and I looked in the mirror, 00:10:28.71\00:10:32.19 and the only thing that I had white were my eyeballs, 00:10:32.22\00:10:36.10 and my teeth. And here I had walked all the way from 00:10:36.13\00:10:41.43 College Wood Products home. 00:10:41.46\00:10:43.91 And people, I passed, people in the street, obviously I had been 00:10:43.94\00:10:49.05 caught up in my thoughts, because I didn't see what their 00:10:49.08\00:10:51.24 reaction was. Now let me ask you this, Would I have known 00:10:51.27\00:10:57.11 that I was dirty if it wasn't for the mirror? 00:10:57.14\00:11:00.14 Actually, if it wasn't for my wife! 00:11:00.17\00:11:03.67 I wouldn't have known that I needed my face cleaned. 00:11:03.70\00:11:07.40 In the same way, folks, I would not know that I'm a sinner. 00:11:07.43\00:11:12.02 I would not know that I need healing from the cancer of sin 00:11:12.05\00:11:16.23 unless the law told me that I am a sinner. 00:11:16.26\00:11:21.21 So much for those who say that the law was nailed to the cross. 00:11:21.24\00:11:24.07 If the law was nailed to the cross there can be no sin, 00:11:24.10\00:11:27.01 because where there is no law, there is no sin. 00:11:27.04\00:11:30.07 Are you understanding me? 00:11:30.10\00:11:32.25 That's point number 1. 00:11:32.28\00:11:34.00 Now let's go to point number 2. 00:11:34.03\00:11:36.51 If there is no sin, because there is no law, 00:11:36.54\00:11:42.05 there can be no death. 00:11:42.08\00:11:45.07 Lets read what the Bible says. 00:11:45.10\00:11:48.81 Go with me to Romans 5, Romans 5:12, Romans 5:12. 00:11:48.84\00:11:57.38 Here the apostle Paul says this: 00:11:57.41\00:12:00.44 What does this text say? that death came in through what? 00:12:15.52\00:12:21.37 Death came in through sin. 00:12:21.40\00:12:24.78 So the law tells you that you are a sinner, and as a result of 00:12:24.81\00:12:30.70 sin comes what? death. 00:12:30.73\00:12:33.87 Go just to the next page, Romans 6:23, Romans 6:23, 00:12:33.90\00:12:39.87 and we will read only the first part of the verse. 00:12:39.90\00:12:42.88 Later on in our study we will read the second 00:12:42.91\00:12:45.50 part of the verse. 00:12:45.53\00:12:46.56 The apostle Paul says, inspired by the Holy Spirit: 00:12:46.59\00:12:49.74 So basically if there is no law, there is no sin. 00:12:57.66\00:13:01.65 If there is no sin, there can be no what? no death, because death 00:13:01.68\00:13:07.83 is the wages of sin. 00:13:07.86\00:13:09.78 Go with me also to James 1:15, James 1:15. 00:13:09.81\00:13:18.90 Here we find this same principle that if there is no sin, 00:13:18.93\00:13:23.14 there can be no death. 00:13:23.17\00:13:24.41 Here James, the brother of our Lord, says this: 00:13:24.44\00:13:29.13 Desire means when covetousness, evil desires, this isn't just 00:13:35.36\00:13:41.74 any kind of desire. 00:13:41.77\00:13:42.90 What does sin bring? death. 00:13:56.70\00:13:59.96 And what is it that reveals sin? the law. 00:13:59.99\00:14:03.33 So what have we noticed so far? 00:14:03.36\00:14:05.79 If there is no law, there can be no sin. 00:14:05.82\00:14:09.32 If there is no sin, there can be no what? no death. 00:14:09.35\00:14:14.69 Now, if there is no sin, and therefore there is no death, 00:14:14.72\00:14:19.78 that must mean that I am what? that I am immortal. 00:14:19.81\00:14:24.73 You're not following me, are you? 00:14:24.76\00:14:27.72 Yes? You're pretty quiet tonight. 00:14:27.75\00:14:31.32 Let's go over that again, because it's important. 00:14:31.35\00:14:34.83 If there is no law, and therefore no sin, 00:14:34.86\00:14:38.09 if there is no sin, and therefore no death, 00:14:38.12\00:14:42.25 then I must be immortal. 00:14:42.28\00:14:46.96 Is that a logical conclusion? 00:14:46.99\00:14:49.55 You don't have to be, you don't have to have the wisdom of 00:14:49.58\00:14:53.22 Albert Einstein to figure that out. 00:14:53.25\00:14:55.46 You don't have to be as smart as king Solomon to figure that out. 00:14:55.49\00:15:00.19 It's a logical conclusion. 00:15:00.22\00:15:02.54 Now, who only, according to the Bible, is immortal? 00:15:02.57\00:15:09.32 Let's notice what the New Testament has to say. 00:15:09.35\00:15:12.61 Go with me to 1 Timothy 6:16, 1 Timothy 6:16. 00:15:12.64\00:15:20.69 There is only one who is immortal 00:15:20.72\00:15:23.00 according to scripture, and that is God. 00:15:23.03\00:15:26.79 And in this case it's speaking about Jesus Christ, 00:15:26.82\00:15:30.41 but of course, God is one in three persons, 00:15:30.44\00:15:33.60 so what is said about Christ can be said about the Father, 00:15:33.63\00:15:36.34 can be said about the Spirit, because they are three, 00:15:36.37\00:15:38.85 but they are one. 00:15:38.88\00:15:39.91 And maybe Pastor Finn can, in the Question and Answer 00:15:39.94\00:15:43.94 session, talk about the concept of the Trinity: 00:15:43.97\00:15:46.96 three persons, one God. 00:15:46.99\00:15:49.08 1 Timothy 6:16, actually lets read starting with verse 14, 00:15:49.11\00:15:56.64 so that we can get the context. 00:15:56.67\00:15:58.40 That you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until 00:15:58.43\00:16:02.89 our Lord Jesus Christ's appearing, which He will 00:16:02.92\00:16:07.28 manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only 00:16:07.31\00:16:11.80 potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords, who alone 00:16:11.83\00:16:18.56 has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, 00:16:18.59\00:16:23.12 whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and 00:16:23.15\00:16:28.19 everlasting power, Amen. 00:16:28.22\00:16:30.35 It says that He alone has immortality. 00:16:30.38\00:16:35.43 Now let me ask you, What part of alone don't you understand? 00:16:35.46\00:16:37.88 Alone means what? It means that He is the only one 00:16:37.91\00:16:44.94 who has immortality. 00:16:44.97\00:16:47.21 Only God is immortal, according to scripture. 00:16:47.24\00:16:50.99 Notice one other text: 1 Timothy 1:17, 1 Timothy 1:17. 00:16:51.02\00:17:00.67 Here the apostle Paul says this: let's see, it's the 2nd epistle. 00:17:00.70\00:17:07.95 Well, no wonder! 1st epistle verse 17, chapter 1. It says: 00:17:07.98\00:17:13.40 What's the next word? 00:17:15.36\00:17:17.50 According to the New Testament, who is the only one 00:17:28.44\00:17:32.26 who has immortality? 00:17:32.29\00:17:34.05 The only immortal one is God. 00:17:34.08\00:17:37.26 Now let's review what we've studied. 00:17:37.29\00:17:39.73 If there is no law, there can be no sin. 00:17:39.76\00:17:44.06 If there is no sin, there can be no death. 00:17:44.09\00:17:48.61 If there is no death, I am immortal, 00:17:48.64\00:17:52.71 but only God is immortal. 00:17:52.74\00:17:56.85 Now, what is the inevitable conclusion? 00:17:56.88\00:18:01.21 It's this: that if man is immortal, 00:18:01.24\00:18:05.01 but only God is immortal, man must be... 00:18:05.04\00:18:11.82 Say it louder... Man must be God. 00:18:11.85\00:18:18.62 Let me repeat that again. 00:18:18.65\00:18:21.89 If only God is immortal, but man is immortal, 00:18:21.92\00:18:28.56 because there is no law, no sin, no death, 00:18:28.59\00:18:31.91 then man must be God, because only God is immortal. 00:18:31.94\00:18:39.14 Are you following what I am saying? 00:18:39.17\00:18:41.81 In other words, there are two great teachings which lead 00:18:41.84\00:18:48.91 to two gargantuan errors in the end time. 00:18:48.94\00:18:54.86 The first is the idea that there is no law. 00:18:54.89\00:18:59.24 That the law was done away with. 00:18:59.27\00:19:01.95 That the law was nailed to the cross. 00:19:01.98\00:19:03.81 That all of us need to be just the law unto ourselves. 00:19:03.84\00:19:07.98 And the second one is the idea that man is by nature what? 00:19:08.01\00:19:13.91 That man is by nature immortal. 00:19:13.94\00:19:17.56 Now lets go through it again, because this 00:19:17.59\00:19:19.87 is of critical importance. 00:19:19.90\00:19:21.15 If there is no law, there is no sin. 00:19:21.18\00:19:24.61 If there is no sin, there is no death. 00:19:24.64\00:19:27.64 If there is no death, I am immortal. 00:19:27.67\00:19:30.84 But because only God is immortal, if I'm immortal, 00:19:30.87\00:19:34.18 I must be God. Now let me ask you, where did these 00:19:34.21\00:19:39.69 two ideas originate? 00:19:39.72\00:19:41.13 Where did these two ideas begin, that you don't have to worry 00:19:41.16\00:19:47.30 about God's law, and you are immortal? 00:19:47.34\00:19:50.00 Let's go back to Genesis. 00:19:50.04\00:19:53.13 Let's go back to Genesis 3:4, 5, Genesis 3:4, 5. 00:19:53.16\00:20:02.26 And actually, I'll start reading at verse 1 so that we can catch 00:20:02.29\00:20:05.37 the context. It says: Now the serpent was more cunning than 00:20:05.40\00:20:10.38 any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. 00:20:10.41\00:20:13.47 And he said to the woman, Has God indeed said you shall not 00:20:13.50\00:20:18.86 eat of every tree of the garden? 00:20:18.89\00:20:20.61 And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit 00:20:20.64\00:20:24.40 of the trees of the garden, but of the fruit of the tree, 00:20:24.43\00:20:27.89 which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, You shall 00:20:27.92\00:20:31.48 not eat it, nor shall you touch it lest you die. 00:20:31.51\00:20:35.83 And now notice verse 4: 00:20:35.86\00:20:37.91 What is the serpent telling Eve? 00:20:45.27\00:20:48.35 If she's not going to die, she must be what? 00:20:48.38\00:20:52.37 She must be immortal, according to this. 00:20:52.40\00:20:56.43 You're not going to die. 00:20:56.46\00:20:59.42 God is lying. You're going to be immortal. 00:20:59.45\00:21:03.56 But now I want you to notice verse 5. It says: 00:21:03.59\00:21:09.06 Now let's take a look at this verse. 00:21:26.84\00:21:29.66 I've dealt with it before, but I want this verse 00:21:29.69\00:21:31.74 to be absolutely clear. 00:21:31.77\00:21:33.98 Let me ask you, Was the devil right when he said to the woman, 00:21:34.01\00:21:41.94 that God knows that the day that you eat of it, your eyes will be 00:21:41.97\00:21:48.14 opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. 00:21:48.17\00:21:50.98 Was the devil right? 00:21:51.01\00:21:52.04 He was? Let me ask you, Who is the absolute arbiter 00:21:52.07\00:21:58.60 of good and evil? 00:21:58.63\00:21:59.66 Who defines what is good and what is evil? 00:21:59.69\00:22:02.75 God does. And what document has God given us to show 00:22:02.78\00:22:06.34 what is good, and what is evil? 00:22:06.37\00:22:07.40 What? His ten commandments. 00:22:07.43\00:22:12.16 Would you say that the ten commandments 00:22:12.19\00:22:13.70 define good and evil? 00:22:13.74\00:22:15.87 Did man come up with that law or did God give that law? 00:22:15.90\00:22:21.23 God did. So who is the one who defines good and evil? 00:22:21.26\00:22:25.32 It is God, not man. 00:22:25.35\00:22:27.29 God tells Adam and Eve, It's okay to eat from all these 00:22:27.32\00:22:31.04 trees, but it's bad to eat from this one. 00:22:31.08\00:22:33.47 And we've already noticed that in this one command 00:22:33.50\00:22:36.35 are contained all of the ten commandments; 00:22:36.38\00:22:38.06 in principle all of the ten commandments are there. 00:22:38.09\00:22:40.42 So God is defining, in the garden, good and evil. 00:22:40.45\00:22:44.23 Now what is Satan saying to the woman? 00:22:44.26\00:22:46.57 He's saying, Listen up! 00:22:46.60\00:22:48.53 You think that if you eat from the tree you're going to die. 00:22:48.56\00:22:53.65 But let me tell you what's really going on. 00:22:53.68\00:22:55.81 God knows that if you eat of this tree you're going to be 00:22:55.84\00:23:00.67 just like Him, and you are going to be able to define 00:23:00.70\00:23:05.70 good and evil without having to depend on God's 00:23:05.73\00:23:09.82 definition of good and evil. 00:23:09.85\00:23:11.42 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:23:11.45\00:23:13.67 He's saying, Listen, God has intimidated you. 00:23:13.70\00:23:16.49 He's said that you shouldn't eat from the tree, because you're 00:23:16.52\00:23:19.52 going to die, but that's just to scare you so you don't eat, 00:23:19.55\00:23:22.81 because He knows that if you do eat, then He's going to have 00:23:22.84\00:23:25.68 other God's running around, and only He wants to be God. 00:23:25.71\00:23:29.05 That's what the devil is really saying. 00:23:29.08\00:23:31.81 But he says, If you eat from the tree, not only will you be 00:23:31.84\00:23:36.15 God, but you will be able to determine what is good, 00:23:36.18\00:23:39.58 and what is evil without having to depend on God's definition 00:23:39.61\00:23:43.66 of good and evil. 00:23:43.69\00:23:44.74 Let me ask you, Is the devil attacking the law of God, 00:23:44.77\00:23:49.02 the objective external law of God? He most certainly is! 00:23:49.05\00:23:53.59 He's saying, You don't have to accept God's standard 00:23:53.62\00:23:56.50 of right and wrong. 00:23:56.53\00:23:57.56 If you are God, you can follow your own standard 00:23:57.59\00:24:00.67 of right and wrong, of good and evil. 00:24:00.70\00:24:03.20 So in these two verses you have these two ideas: 00:24:03.23\00:24:07.32 you will not die, and you can be your own 00:24:07.35\00:24:10.92 source of ethical decisions. 00:24:10.95\00:24:13.17 You don't have to define on God's definition 00:24:13.20\00:24:16.19 of right and wrong. 00:24:16.22\00:24:17.25 If you're God, you can define what's right and wrong. 00:24:17.28\00:24:20.31 It's an attack on the law, and besides that you will not die, 00:24:20.34\00:24:25.28 you are what? you are immortal. 00:24:25.31\00:24:28.88 Do you see how these two ideas are very closely 00:24:28.91\00:24:33.34 linked one to another? 00:24:33.37\00:24:35.15 If you believe one, you will automatically believe the other. 00:24:35.18\00:24:40.26 These two ideas originated with Satan in the Garden of Eden. 00:24:40.29\00:24:45.26 The idea that you have to get rid of God's objective law, 00:24:45.29\00:24:48.89 God's definition of right and wrong. 00:24:48.92\00:24:50.92 You can choose right and wrong for yourself. 00:24:50.95\00:24:53.25 You're old enough, you're wise enough, you're mature enough 00:24:53.28\00:24:56.90 to decide what's good and evil without having somebody tell you 00:24:56.93\00:24:59.76 that the law tells you what's right and what's wrong. 00:24:59.79\00:25:02.47 You can come in from inside and know what's right and wrong. 00:25:02.50\00:25:06.57 And he also says that you will not die. 00:25:06.60\00:25:09.92 And so notice that we have here: if there is no law there is no 00:25:09.95\00:25:14.41 sin, if there is no sin there is no death. 00:25:14.44\00:25:17.89 If there is no death, I am immortal. 00:25:17.92\00:25:20.65 But because only God is immortal, if I'm also immortal, 00:25:20.68\00:25:24.99 I must be God. The two great errors that the devil tried to 00:25:25.02\00:25:33.20 pan off, and actually did pan off on Eve 00:25:33.23\00:25:36.11 in the Garden of Eden. 00:25:36.14\00:25:37.66 Now let's go back to the book of Genesis and examine the sequence 00:25:37.69\00:25:42.95 of events that led to the sin of Adam and Eve, 00:25:42.98\00:25:45.93 and the consequences of their sin. 00:25:45.96\00:25:48.46 Go with me to Genesis 2:16, 17, Genesis 2:16, 17. 00:25:48.49\00:25:57.58 It says there: Then the Lord God took the man and put him in 00:25:57.61\00:26:02.11 the Garden of Eden to tend and keep it. 00:26:02.14\00:26:04.50 In other words, it's okay to eat from all 00:26:10.20\00:26:11.86 of the trees of the garden. 00:26:11.90\00:26:13.10 What did God say? Did God give a law? 00:26:24.61\00:26:27.99 Was this law outside man? 00:26:28.02\00:26:30.99 Was it outside man? 00:26:31.02\00:26:33.75 Did God lay down the ground rule? 00:26:33.78\00:26:35.62 And we've already studied that this law contained 00:26:35.65\00:26:37.96 all of the commandments. 00:26:37.99\00:26:39.02 Because when Eve sinned she coveted. 00:26:39.05\00:26:41.38 She stole God's fruit. 00:26:41.41\00:26:42.79 She dishonored her heavenly Father. 00:26:42.82\00:26:44.79 She chose another spiritual lover. 00:26:44.82\00:26:47.31 She committed spiritual adultery. 00:26:47.34\00:26:48.84 She brought death into the world. 00:26:48.87\00:26:50.66 In other words, she killed. 00:26:50.69\00:26:51.79 All of the commandments were broken 00:26:51.82\00:26:53.90 when she broke this one commandment. 00:26:53.93\00:26:55.74 Now let me ask you, When Eve and her husband, Adam, 00:26:55.77\00:26:59.07 afterwards broke the ten commandments, was that sin? 00:26:59.10\00:27:02.30 Was what Adam and Eve did sin? 00:27:02.33\00:27:07.57 Lets notice Romans 5, Romans 5: 12, Romans 5:12. 00:27:07.60\00:27:15.65 Here the apostle Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, says this: 00:27:15.68\00:27:21.64 And we've read this verse before. 00:27:21.67\00:27:23.53 Let me ask you, did sin come into the world through one man? 00:27:31.47\00:27:34.84 Yes or No? Who was that man? 00:27:34.87\00:27:36.90 That was Adam. Let me ask you, In order to be sin, 00:27:36.93\00:27:40.25 must there have been a law to break? 00:27:40.28\00:27:41.97 Are you with me or not? 00:27:42.00\00:27:45.14 Did Adam sin? What is sin? 00:27:45.17\00:27:49.61 Transgression of the law. 00:27:49.64\00:27:51.74 So was there a law to break? Of course! 00:27:51.77\00:27:54.37 So there was a law? 00:27:54.40\00:27:56.15 When Adam and Eve broke the law they what? They sinned. 00:27:56.18\00:28:00.92 And when they sinned what came in as a consequence? 00:28:00.95\00:28:04.46 Let's read once again verse 12. It says: 00:28:04.49\00:28:07.90 And then what does it say? 00:28:12.17\00:28:13.99 Do you see the sequence? 00:28:21.75\00:28:22.81 God has a law. Adam and Eve break the law, 00:28:22.84\00:28:26.72 and that's what? Sin. 00:28:26.75\00:28:28.38 And because Adam and Eve sinned, 00:28:28.41\00:28:30.53 what comes into the world? death. 00:28:30.56\00:28:33.05 So my line of reasoning is not mine. 00:28:33.08\00:28:36.50 The line of reasoning that we've been using 00:28:36.53\00:28:39.54 is in harmony with scripture. 00:28:39.57\00:28:42.74 By the way, you can read in Genesis 3:6 00:28:42.77\00:28:46.02 about the sin of Adam and Eve. 00:28:46.05\00:28:48.05 Let's go there just for a moment. 00:28:48.08\00:28:50.10 Genesis 3:6 says this: 00:28:50.13\00:28:53.93 So they sinned, didn't they? 00:29:08.29\00:29:09.61 They broke God's command. 00:29:09.64\00:29:11.13 They sinned, and as a result God said to Adam, Dust you are, 00:29:11.16\00:29:15.25 and to dust you shall what? 00:29:15.28\00:29:17.76 And to dust you shall return. 00:29:17.79\00:29:20.12 In other words, God says, Because you broke My law, 00:29:20.15\00:29:22.32 you are going to die. 00:29:22.35\00:29:26.05 Is that contrary to what the devil said? 00:29:26.08\00:29:29.27 What did the devil say? 00:29:29.30\00:29:31.16 Eat and you won't die. 00:29:31.19\00:29:34.00 Disobey God's law and you won't die. 00:29:34.03\00:29:36.99 God says you disobey My law, and you will die. 00:29:37.02\00:29:41.15 Who was telling the truth? 00:29:41.18\00:29:43.01 God was telling the truth, because Adam died 00:29:43.04\00:29:47.08 when he was 930 years old. 00:29:47.11\00:29:49.09 And if you read the list in Genesis 5 of all of the great 00:29:49.12\00:29:52.21 heroes up to the times of Noah, the expression is used, 00:29:52.24\00:29:56.02 and he died, and he died, and he died, and he died, 00:29:56.05\00:29:59.47 and he died, with the exception of one: Enoch. 00:29:59.50\00:30:02.42 And later on in our series we're going to talk about Enoch, 00:30:02.45\00:30:05.62 and why Enoch was translated to heaven without seeing death. 00:30:05.65\00:30:12.56 He's the only one in the list that did not actually die. 00:30:12.59\00:30:16.62 Now lets notice what God did to Adam and Eve 00:30:16.65\00:30:19.76 in consequence of their sin. 00:30:19.79\00:30:21.65 Notice Genesis chapter 3, Genesis 3, and let's read 00:30:21.68\00:30:28.26 starting at verse 23, Genesis 3: 23. It says here: 00:30:28.29\00:30:36.01 What happened to Adam and Eve? 00:30:48.73\00:30:49.77 They were what? They were cast out of the garden. 00:30:49.80\00:30:54.50 What was in the garden? 00:30:54.53\00:30:56.11 In the garden was the tree of life. 00:30:56.14\00:31:01.48 Now listen up. Did Adam and Eve have to continue eating 00:31:01.51\00:31:06.49 from the tree of life to continue living? Yes. 00:31:06.52\00:31:09.60 Do you know that their only source of life 00:31:09.63\00:31:11.61 was in God's tree? 00:31:11.64\00:31:12.67 They had to eat from the tree to refurbish their strength, 00:31:12.70\00:31:17.67 and to refurbish their life. 00:31:17.70\00:31:18.96 In other words, their source of life was not inside, 00:31:18.99\00:31:21.00 it was outside in God's tree. 00:31:21.03\00:31:22.32 And do you know that even in eternity, when God makes a new 00:31:22.35\00:31:26.98 heavens and a new earth, we read in our last lecture, 00:31:27.01\00:31:31.53 that from month to month we will go to the Holy City. 00:31:31.56\00:31:36.25 And what will we go to the Holy City for? 00:31:36.28\00:31:38.54 To eat from the tree of life. 00:31:38.57\00:31:41.89 Even in eternity our source of life will not be inside, 00:31:41.92\00:31:45.11 it will be where? It will be outside in God's tree. 00:31:45.14\00:31:49.53 In other words, God has a tree which served the purpose 00:31:49.56\00:31:52.74 of a battery charger, if you please. 00:31:52.77\00:31:55.75 In other words, Adam and Eve had to go 00:31:55.79\00:31:58.76 and charge their battery. 00:31:58.79\00:32:00.13 As long as they were obedient to God they had access 00:32:00.16\00:32:03.25 to the tree of life. 00:32:03.28\00:32:04.43 But now, because of their sin, what happened? 00:32:04.46\00:32:07.70 They were cast out from the Garden of Eden, 00:32:07.73\00:32:11.17 and they could no longer partake of what? 00:32:11.20\00:32:14.70 of the tree of life, because they disobeyed 00:32:14.73\00:32:17.45 God's commandment. 00:32:17.48\00:32:18.51 Now let's notice verse 24. 00:32:18.54\00:32:20.88 It says in verse 24: 00:32:20.91\00:32:23.42 No more access to the tree of life. Notice: 00:32:26.48\00:32:29.77 Whom did God place at the gate of the garden? 00:32:43.90\00:32:46.93 What were cherubim? angels. 00:32:46.96\00:32:51.16 Now do you notice? 00:32:51.19\00:32:53.20 They broke God's law. 00:32:53.23\00:32:54.97 They sinned. God cast them out of the garden, 00:32:55.00\00:33:00.20 so that they could not eat from the tree of life, 00:33:00.23\00:33:04.00 and an angel was placed at the gate. Follow me? 00:33:04.03\00:33:09.85 And two things came as a result: first of all, the curse. 00:33:09.88\00:33:15.89 Notice what we find in Genesis 3:17, Genesis 3:17. 00:33:15.92\00:33:22.76 Then to Adam He said, Because you have heeded the voice 00:33:23.21\00:33:27.61 of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which 00:33:27.64\00:33:31.18 I commanded you saying, You shall not eat of it. 00:33:31.21\00:33:33.79 What came in as a result of their sin of breaking God's law? 00:33:39.40\00:33:42.85 The curse. And, by the way, this word is used three times 00:33:42.88\00:33:47.17 in Genesis 3 and 4. 00:33:47.20\00:33:49.24 It's used of the serpent. 00:33:49.27\00:33:51.01 God cursed the serpent. 00:33:51.04\00:33:52.29 And in Genesis 4:11 He cursed Cain. 00:33:52.32\00:33:55.92 In other words, in consequence of sin, of them being cast out 00:33:55.95\00:34:00.60 of the garden, now the curse comes in. 00:34:00.63\00:34:03.18 And, of course, as a result of the curse, also comes in death. 00:34:03.21\00:34:09.65 God says, Dust you are, and to dust you shall return. 00:34:09.68\00:34:14.38 So reviewing: Adam and Eve broke God's law. 00:34:14.41\00:34:18.67 That was sin. Because of sin they were cast 00:34:18.70\00:34:22.87 out of the garden. 00:34:22.90\00:34:23.93 Angels were placed at the gate to guard the access 00:34:23.96\00:34:29.15 to the tree of life. 00:34:29.18\00:34:30.21 And then as a result, comes in the curse and death. 00:34:30.24\00:34:35.97 Now you say, why are you going through this sequence? 00:34:36.00\00:34:39.95 Because this sequence is going to be undone 00:34:39.98\00:34:45.29 at the very end of time. 00:34:45.32\00:34:47.23 I want you to go with me to Revelation 22:14, 00:34:47.26\00:34:52.43 Revelation 22:14, and I want you to notice this interesting 00:34:52.46\00:34:58.39 verse in conjunction with what we just read from Genesis. 00:34:58.42\00:35:01.45 It says there in Revelation 22 and verse 14: 00:35:01.48\00:35:06.05 Who what? the King James says, keep. Here it says: 00:35:13.20\00:35:17.82 Some people say, Well, Pastor, but in other versions it says, 00:35:20.34\00:35:24.24 Blessed are those who wash their robes. 00:35:24.27\00:35:27.12 Actually, both ideas are in Revelation. 00:35:27.15\00:35:30.13 Revelation 7:13, 14 says, speaking about the saints who 00:35:30.16\00:35:34.81 go through the tribulation, it says that they've made their 00:35:34.84\00:35:37.06 garments white in the blood of the Lamb. 00:35:37.10\00:35:39.06 But also Revelation speaks about the dragon being enraged against 00:35:39.10\00:35:44.42 those who keep the commandments of God. 00:35:44.45\00:35:46.61 Both ideas are present, but what is the best 00:35:46.64\00:35:49.45 translation here? 00:35:49.48\00:35:50.51 I believe that the best translation is the King James 00:35:50.54\00:35:53.09 translation: Blessed are those who keep His commandments. 00:35:53.12\00:35:55.65 And we're going to see why, because really it's an undoing 00:35:55.68\00:35:59.98 of breaking the commandments in Genesis. 00:36:00.01\00:36:02.24 Notice once again verse 14: Blessed are those who do His 00:36:02.27\00:36:06.92 commandments. Is that opposite of what Adam and Eve did? 00:36:06.95\00:36:11.41 What did Adam and Eve do? 00:36:11.44\00:36:14.06 They broke the commandments. 00:36:14.09\00:36:15.80 Is there going to be a group who keep them? Yes. Now notice: 00:36:15.83\00:36:20.48 Is that an undoing of what happened in Genesis? Yes. 00:36:25.96\00:36:29.39 Is that the opposite of what happened to Adam and Eve? 00:36:32.56\00:36:35.17 Yes. And, by the way, do you know 00:36:35.20\00:36:37.54 who's standing at the gates? 00:36:37.57\00:36:38.72 Notice Revelation 21:12, Revelation 21:12. 00:36:38.75\00:36:44.73 Speaking about the Holy City, it says: 00:36:44.76\00:36:47.02 Excuse me, who is at every gate? an angel. 00:36:55.24\00:37:02.50 What are the angels checking? 00:37:02.53\00:37:04.76 They're checking ID. 00:37:04.79\00:37:09.20 So in Revelation you have a group who keep 00:37:09.23\00:37:12.63 the commandments. 00:37:12.66\00:37:13.69 They're allowed through the gates by an angel. 00:37:13.72\00:37:17.36 They now have access to what? 00:37:17.39\00:37:21.33 They now have access to the tree of life. 00:37:21.36\00:37:24.09 And I want you to notice the two things 00:37:24.12\00:37:26.30 that are no longer present. 00:37:26.33\00:37:27.81 Notice Revelation 22:3, Revelation 22:3. 00:37:27.84\00:37:34.79 Two things that are absent once they enter the city. 00:37:34.82\00:37:38.30 It says there in Revelation 22: 00:37:38.33\00:37:40.50 ...what? Is that an undoing of what happened in Genesis? 00:37:42.63\00:37:46.42 Of course! 00:37:46.45\00:37:47.48 Notice what else will not be there. 00:37:55.08\00:37:57.27 Revelation 21:4 says: 00:37:57.30\00:38:00.06 Does Revelation speak about the undoing of what 00:38:13.95\00:38:17.87 happened in Genesis? Of course. 00:38:17.90\00:38:20.62 Adam and Eve broke the commandment. They sinned. 00:38:20.65\00:38:23.20 As a result they were sentenced to death. 00:38:23.23\00:38:25.31 They were cast out of the garden so that they could not 00:38:25.34\00:38:27.88 eat from the tree of life. 00:38:27.91\00:38:29.06 Angels were placed at the gate. 00:38:29.09\00:38:30.64 As a result you have the curse, and death. 00:38:30.67\00:38:33.82 In Revelation you have a group of people who keep 00:38:33.85\00:38:37.09 the commandments of God. 00:38:37.12\00:38:38.32 The angel lets them through the gates to have access 00:38:38.35\00:38:41.54 to the tree of life, and as a result you don't have anymore 00:38:41.57\00:38:44.84 curse, and you don't have anymore death. 00:38:44.87\00:38:47.90 Are you understanding this point? 00:38:47.93\00:38:49.80 Revelation undoes what happened in Genesis. 00:38:49.83\00:38:54.10 God will have a people who will keep His commandments. 00:38:54.13\00:38:57.30 And, by the way, they're not immortal in themselves, 00:38:57.33\00:39:00.09 because if they were immortal, why would they have 00:39:00.12\00:39:01.96 to eat from the tree? 00:39:01.99\00:39:03.02 In fact, listen up, if man was created immortal, 00:39:03.05\00:39:08.36 what good would it have been for God to forbid him 00:39:08.39\00:39:10.66 from eating from the tree? 00:39:10.69\00:39:11.72 You're not understanding me, are you? 00:39:11.75\00:39:15.44 If man was by nature immortal what good would it do 00:39:15.47\00:39:19.70 for God to bar him from eating from the tree? 00:39:19.73\00:39:21.42 It made no difference whether he ate or not. 00:39:21.45\00:39:24.75 He was still immortal. 00:39:24.78\00:39:26.09 Furthermore, and this is even more serious, if man is by 00:39:26.12\00:39:31.90 nature immortal, what did Jesus come to save us from? 00:39:31.93\00:39:35.06 Did Jesus come to save us from death? Yes, He did. 00:39:37.86\00:39:40.72 But if we're immortal what is He saving us from? 00:39:40.75\00:39:43.72 The doctrine of the immortality of the soul 00:39:43.75\00:39:48.46 makes Jesus unnecessary. 00:39:48.49\00:39:50.91 And it makes the casting out of Adam and Eve from the Garden 00:39:50.94\00:39:55.70 of Eden unnecessary. 00:39:55.73\00:39:57.58 Are you understanding my point or not? 00:39:57.61\00:40:00.55 This is a critical point. 00:40:00.58\00:40:02.53 Now I want you to go with me to Revelation 22:15, 00:40:02.56\00:40:05.48 because somebody might say, Okay, well the parallel 00:40:05.51\00:40:07.83 is interesting, but does the text really mean those who keep 00:40:07.86\00:40:11.96 the commandments or those who washed their robes? 00:40:11.99\00:40:14.16 Well, let's notice the contrast at verse 15, and you'll see that 00:40:14.19\00:40:17.74 keeping the commandments is a better translation. 00:40:17.77\00:40:20.28 By the way, if God has a people in the end time who keep the 00:40:20.31\00:40:22.67 commandments, I guess they weren't nailed to the cross. 00:40:22.70\00:40:25.24 Hello, anybody out there? 00:40:27.64\00:40:29.34 Why would God say that He has a people who keep His 00:40:31.50\00:40:33.92 commandments if the law was done away with 00:40:33.95\00:40:36.79 when Jesus died on the cross? 00:40:36.82\00:40:37.85 Or He doesn't expect Christians to keep the law anymore? 00:40:37.88\00:40:41.40 Do you know what the problem is? and I'll be brutally frank. 00:40:41.43\00:40:46.46 People want to get rid of the Sabbath, and I can't explain it. 00:40:46.50\00:40:52.00 I don't know why, because it's such a beautiful day. 00:40:52.03\00:40:55.13 Twenty-four hours of communion with Christ! 00:40:55.16\00:40:57.32 You ask them, Oh, can you commit adultery then? No, No. 00:40:57.35\00:41:00.07 Can you steal? No, No. 00:41:00.10\00:41:02.72 Can you covet? No. 00:41:02.75\00:41:05.42 Can you worship idols? Never! 00:41:05.45\00:41:08.36 Can you beat up your parents? Don't even think of it! 00:41:08.39\00:41:12.83 Can you kill? No. 00:41:12.86\00:41:17.11 Can you bear false witness against your neighbor? No way! 00:41:17.14\00:41:21.47 Can you break the Sabbath? Yeah! 00:41:21.50\00:41:24.23 Now lets be consistent folks. 00:41:26.12\00:41:27.86 Lets be honest with ourselves, and honest with God. 00:41:27.89\00:41:31.63 I know that there are preachers out there that teach 00:41:31.66\00:41:35.53 that the Sabbath was done away with, but the Bible 00:41:35.56\00:41:37.43 does not teach that. 00:41:37.46\00:41:38.49 In fact, I'll give you a reward if you can show me one text 00:41:38.52\00:41:42.15 in the Bible where it says, Thus saith the Lord, You shall now 00:41:42.18\00:41:45.36 keep the first day of the week instead of the seventh 00:41:45.39\00:41:48.26 day of the week. You won't find it. 00:41:48.29\00:41:49.98 People say, Well, we keep Sunday because we want to honor 00:41:50.01\00:41:53.45 the Resurrection of Jesus. 00:41:53.48\00:41:54.51 There's no place in the Bible that says you're supposed 00:41:54.54\00:41:56.44 to keep Sunday because you honor the Resurrection of Jesus. 00:41:56.47\00:41:58.73 In fact, the Bible says that it is baptism which commemorates 00:41:58.76\00:42:02.27 the death and the Resurrection of Christ. 00:42:02.30\00:42:04.02 It is baptism, not Sunday, but this is an assumption, 00:42:04.05\00:42:08.59 an idea that came into the Christian church by tradition. 00:42:08.62\00:42:12.73 Now notice Revelation 22:15, and I'm going to read verse 14 00:42:12.76\00:42:17.87 because I want you to catch the context. 00:42:17.90\00:42:19.49 It says, Blessed are those who do His commandments that they 00:42:19.52\00:42:22.16 may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through 00:42:22.19\00:42:24.54 the gates into the city, but... 00:42:24.57\00:42:26.46 What does that word, but indicate? 00:42:26.49\00:42:29.64 There is a group of contrasts with those who enter, 00:42:29.67\00:42:32.76 who keep the commandments. 00:42:32.79\00:42:33.93 By the way, sorcerers break the commandment, Thou shall have 00:42:42.12\00:42:44.57 no other gods before Me, because sorcerers claim to have 00:42:44.60\00:42:47.25 the power to create reality. 00:42:47.28\00:42:49.34 Some versions say fornicators, or adulterers. And what else? 00:42:54.14\00:42:59.31 Let me ask you, Are these all violations 00:43:02.87\00:43:05.00 of the ten commandments? 00:43:05.03\00:43:06.06 Which commandment is murderers? 00:43:06.09\00:43:08.83 Thou shalt not kill. 00:43:08.86\00:43:11.24 What about fornicators, or adulterers? 00:43:11.27\00:43:13.58 Thou shalt not commit adultery. 00:43:13.61\00:43:15.03 How about idolaters? 00:43:15.06\00:43:16.09 Thou shalt not make any graven image. 00:43:16.12\00:43:18.99 How about he who loves and practices a lie? 00:43:19.02\00:43:21.05 Thou shalt not bear false witness. 00:43:21.08\00:43:22.57 That is those who are outside the city 00:43:22.60\00:43:24.63 are commandment breakers. 00:43:24.66\00:43:27.44 Those who are inside the city are what? 00:43:27.47\00:43:31.08 are commandment keepers. 00:43:31.11\00:43:33.32 Is that clear? Raise your hand if that's clear. 00:43:33.35\00:43:36.81 I mean it's there in scripture. 00:43:36.84\00:43:38.81 Now, is Pastor Bohr saying that God's going to let us into this 00:43:38.84\00:43:43.48 city because we kept His commandments? 00:43:43.51\00:43:45.68 We earned our entrance into the city 00:43:45.71\00:43:48.20 by keeping His commandments. No way! 00:43:48.23\00:43:51.08 Then what am I saying? 00:43:51.11\00:43:55.06 Listen, the only thing that gives us access to the Holy City 00:43:55.09\00:43:59.70 is the fact that Jesus bore the curse for our sins. 00:43:59.73\00:44:04.97 Do you remember Genesis 3:21 when Adam and Eve were naked? 00:44:07.25\00:44:11.61 They were actually covered with fig leaves, 00:44:11.64\00:44:13.04 but they still felt naked. 00:44:13.07\00:44:14.20 What happened in the Garden of Eden? 00:44:14.23\00:44:17.53 Animals were slain. 00:44:17.56\00:44:21.74 What did those animals represent? 00:44:21.77\00:44:24.25 They represented the death of Jesus to cover the shame 00:44:24.28\00:44:29.14 of their nakedness. 00:44:29.17\00:44:30.20 Of course, nakedness represents living in a state of sin. 00:44:30.23\00:44:33.27 In other words, the only thing which would allow Adam and Eve 00:44:33.30\00:44:37.89 access again into the presence of God, was to be covered 00:44:37.92\00:44:42.44 with the skins of the lamb slain, which represented the 00:44:42.47\00:44:47.73 death of the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. 00:44:47.76\00:44:51.52 As it says in Galatians 3:13, Jesus redeemed us from 00:44:51.55\00:44:58.93 the curse of the law. 00:44:59.05\00:45:00.31 Why does the law curse us? 00:45:00.34\00:45:03.46 Because we're sinners! 00:45:03.49\00:45:06.03 See, the law isn't bad because it curses us. 00:45:06.06\00:45:08.80 It says Christ redeems us from the curse of the law, 00:45:08.83\00:45:11.78 and how did He do it? 00:45:11.81\00:45:12.84 Becoming a curse for us. 00:45:12.87\00:45:16.60 In other words, Jesus took my sin upon Himself. 00:45:16.63\00:45:21.15 He was cursed by His Father in my place. 00:45:21.18\00:45:24.41 He died on a cross paying for the penalty for my sins. 00:45:24.44\00:45:28.40 And when I come to Jesus and I see that, and I see what sin 00:45:28.43\00:45:32.64 did to Jesus, I say, Lord Jesus, Why did this happen to You? 00:45:32.67\00:45:35.73 Why did You cry out, My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken me? 00:45:35.76\00:45:39.66 Why, why were You sweating drops of blood? 00:45:39.69\00:45:43.28 Why did You have that cup trembling in Your hand? 00:45:43.31\00:45:46.68 Where you said, Father if this cup can pass from Me, 00:45:46.71\00:45:50.37 which is the cup of God's wrath. 00:45:50.40\00:45:51.87 Why did You say this? 00:45:51.90\00:45:53.58 Why did You go through this? 00:45:53.61\00:45:55.08 Jesus says, The wages of sin is death. 00:45:55.11\00:45:59.27 When I see Jesus in that way, I say, Lord Jesus, I love You, 00:45:59.30\00:46:04.16 and I hate sin! It's when I look at Jesus, and see what sin 00:46:04.19\00:46:11.51 did to Jesus, that I once and for all want to get rid of sin. 00:46:11.54\00:46:15.69 Let me tell you this, people who have received Jesus as their 00:46:15.72\00:46:20.83 Savior will, out of love for Jesus, 00:46:20.86\00:46:24.31 get rid of sin in their lives. 00:46:24.34\00:46:27.49 They will keep the commandments, not because they have to, 00:46:27.52\00:46:31.58 not because they're ordered to, but because they're grateful 00:46:31.61\00:46:37.09 to Jesus for what He has done for them. 00:46:37.12\00:46:40.42 So I would say in the light of all of the Bible, 00:46:40.45\00:46:43.96 that what Revelation 22:14 is trying to teach is, 00:46:43.99\00:46:47.61 blessed are those who love Jesus, therefore keep His 00:46:47.64\00:46:51.94 commandments, and enter through the gates into the city, 00:46:51.97\00:46:55.27 because Jesus said, If you love Me, keep My commandments. 00:46:55.30\00:47:01.81 He who says, I know Him, and does not keep His commandments 00:47:01.84\00:47:07.45 is a liar, and the truth of God is not in him. 00:47:07.48\00:47:11.99 Are there many Christians in the world today who say, 00:47:12.02\00:47:15.13 Oh, I received Jesus. 00:47:15.16\00:47:16.44 Jesus died on the cross for me. 00:47:16.47\00:47:17.96 And they live like the devil? 00:47:17.99\00:47:19.99 Yes, absolutely, Yes. 00:47:23.19\00:47:26.46 You see, our life shows whether we have truly 00:47:26.49\00:47:31.85 committed ourselves to Jesus. 00:47:31.88\00:47:33.31 The Bible says we will be judged by our works, even though we are 00:47:33.34\00:47:39.50 saved by grace through faith. 00:47:39.54\00:47:41.13 The apostle Paul says we are justified by faith 00:47:41.16\00:47:44.96 without works of the law. 00:47:44.99\00:47:46.11 But then he says, the doers of the law will be justified. 00:47:46.14\00:47:48.97 The apostle Paul says we are not justified by works of law. 00:47:49.00\00:47:54.65 But then James says, don't you know that Abraham was justified 00:47:54.68\00:47:58.05 by works when he offered his son? 00:47:58.08\00:47:59.93 You say, that's a contradiction. 00:47:59.96\00:48:01.56 No it isn't. You see, Paul is looking at how we're saved. 00:48:01.59\00:48:05.51 We're save by grace through faith, whereas James is looking 00:48:05.54\00:48:09.14 at the life of those who have been saved by faith. 00:48:09.17\00:48:13.81 In other words, Paul is telling you how you're saved. 00:48:13.84\00:48:17.25 James is telling you how saved people live. 00:48:17.28\00:48:20.77 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:48:20.80\00:48:24.23 So if we love Jesus, we're going to obey Jesus, 00:48:24.26\00:48:27.45 because sin nailed Him to the cross, and so when we come 00:48:27.48\00:48:32.28 to the cross we hate sin and we love Jesus. 00:48:32.31\00:48:35.13 How about it? The reason why we sin so much is because we don't 00:48:35.16\00:48:38.19 spend very much time at the cross. 00:48:38.22\00:48:39.48 We spend most of our time behind the television set, 00:48:39.51\00:48:41.93 or in front of the television set. 00:48:41.96\00:48:43.70 I wish it was behind. 00:48:43.73\00:48:45.42 And the television set confirms our sin. 00:48:45.45\00:48:50.20 It makes us greater sinners, because it says, Oh, what you're 00:48:50.23\00:48:53.86 looking at, that's normal. 00:48:53.89\00:48:54.92 That's what happens. 00:48:54.95\00:48:55.98 And we're confirmed in our sins, whereas when we come to the 00:48:56.01\00:48:59.26 cross of Jesus, the cross o Jesus rebukes our sin, 00:48:59.29\00:49:01.94 and we don't want anything more to do with sin. 00:49:01.97\00:49:05.37 Notice 2 Timothy 1:10, 2 Timothy 1:10. 00:49:05.40\00:49:12.24 This is a very important verse. 00:49:12.27\00:49:14.27 It says there, the apostle Paul, once again: 00:49:14.30\00:49:18.17 What has Jesus done? 00:49:33.33\00:49:34.59 He's brought immortality to light through the gospel. 00:49:34.62\00:49:37.39 Now if we already have immortality, what use is it for 00:49:37.42\00:49:40.42 Jesus to bring immortality to to light for the gospel? 00:49:40.45\00:49:43.08 It's absurd! It doesn't make any sense. 00:49:43.11\00:49:46.95 By the way, do you know that our only source 00:49:46.98\00:49:49.08 of life is in Jesus? 00:49:49.11\00:49:50.70 In 1 John 5:11, 12, we find John saying, This is the testimony 00:49:50.74\00:49:58.53 that God has given us eternal life, 00:49:58.56\00:50:00.58 and this life is in His Son. 00:50:00.61\00:50:01.64 So where is our source of life? within us, or outside us? 00:50:13.81\00:50:20.11 It is outside us. 00:50:20.15\00:50:22.32 It is in being connected with Jesus. 00:50:22.35\00:50:26.13 We are not immortal in ourselves. 00:50:26.16\00:50:29.57 We cannot define what's right and wrong in ourselves. 00:50:29.60\00:50:33.85 We need the law of God not only to show us our external 00:50:33.88\00:50:38.13 deeds, we need the law of God to show us our internal 00:50:38.16\00:50:41.24 thoughts and motivations. 00:50:41.27\00:50:42.76 To rebuke our sin, if you please. 00:50:42.79\00:50:45.72 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:50:45.75\00:50:47.10 And when the law does that we realize that we're sentenced 00:50:47.13\00:50:51.17 to death and we cry out, Who shall deliver me 00:50:51.20\00:50:54.21 from this body of death? 00:50:54.24\00:50:55.52 Ah, the answer comes, Look at the Lord Jesus. 00:50:55.55\00:50:59.38 He bore your death. 00:50:59.41\00:51:00.67 He took your death upon the cross, because of your sins. 00:51:00.70\00:51:04.67 And therefore, the law is upheld, and also eternal life 00:51:04.71\00:51:11.35 depends only and exclusively upon Jesus Christ. 00:51:11.38\00:51:17.68 Now I want to make absolutely clear the relationship 00:51:17.71\00:51:23.30 that exists between keeping the law, and God's grace. 00:51:23.33\00:51:26.86 Let me ask you, when you turn on your car, and you put it in 00:51:26.89\00:51:34.31 gear, and your car starts rolling, which of the two wheels 00:51:34.34\00:51:38.87 moves first, the front wheels or the back wheels? 00:51:38.90\00:51:41.49 Almost always people will say, that depends whether it's back 00:51:46.52\00:51:50.09 wheel or front wheel drive. 00:51:50.12\00:51:51.70 Wrong! If it's back wheel drive, when the back wheels move 00:51:51.74\00:51:58.84 the front wheels follow. 00:51:58.87\00:52:01.12 Faith is the power that moves our life. 00:52:01.15\00:52:07.19 The works are what follow in consequence. 00:52:07.22\00:52:11.63 Now I'd like to do a little experiment here. 00:52:11.67\00:52:16.01 Let me ask you, when someone opens that door in the back, 00:52:16.04\00:52:19.65 which side of the door moves first, 00:52:19.68\00:52:21.90 the inside or the outside? 00:52:21.94\00:52:23.30 You snickered. I've had people say the outside, 00:52:24.40\00:52:30.72 and I've had people say the inside, but actually both sides 00:52:30.75\00:52:33.75 move what? move together. 00:52:33.79\00:52:36.02 It's like two oars of a row boat. 00:52:36.05\00:52:40.52 Which oar is most important, the left oar or the right oar? 00:52:40.55\00:52:46.74 Actually, both of them working together move the boat forward. 00:52:46.78\00:52:51.00 Do you want your life to move forward? your spiritual life 00:52:51.04\00:52:55.23 to move forward? The only way is through the oar of works, 00:52:55.26\00:52:59.32 and through the oar of faith working together. 00:52:59.35\00:53:02.55 Or you could illustrate it this way: imagine a piece of paper. 00:53:02.58\00:53:09.68 Let's do a little experiment here. 00:53:09.71\00:53:10.99 If I have a sheet of paper, and I've got this little sheet 00:53:11.02\00:53:14.92 back here, I want to ask someone here, Would you please come and 00:53:14.95\00:53:20.97 take away one side of this piece of paper? 00:53:21.00\00:53:25.54 Anybody want to try and take one side off of this? 00:53:27.93\00:53:30.35 And some people say, Well, I'll peel it. 00:53:30.38\00:53:32.07 It still has two sides. Nice try! 00:53:32.11\00:53:34.27 Can you have a one sided piece of paper? No. 00:53:34.31\00:53:39.23 You have to have two sides. 00:53:39.26\00:53:40.67 And that's true of faith and works. 00:53:40.70\00:53:44.10 Faith is the moving power, works are that which follow. 00:53:44.13\00:53:48.63 Now lets go to Ephesians chapter 2 where this is brought out very 00:53:48.66\00:53:53.32 clearly. Ephesians 2:8, 9. 00:53:53.35\00:53:58.15 Most Christians will read verses 8 and 9 and they'll stop. 00:53:58.18\00:54:00.74 But we've got to read verse 10, too. 00:54:00.77\00:54:04.96 It says there in verse 8: 00:54:04.99\00:54:07.22 And people take that and they say, See, we're saved by grace, 00:54:22.66\00:54:25.95 through faith without works. 00:54:25.98\00:54:28.78 Yeah, but you need to read verse 10. 00:54:28.81\00:54:31.97 Notice verse 10. It says there: 00:54:32.00\00:54:35.44 By the way, that means that we've received Jesus 00:54:42.89\00:54:44.78 into our lives. He's become our Savior. 00:54:44.81\00:54:46.73 And who prepared those good works? 00:54:54.11\00:54:57.04 Do we do them in our own power? in our own selves? No. 00:54:57.08\00:55:00.08 So we are saved by grace through faith. 00:55:10.23\00:55:14.65 We cannot boast, but in consequence of that 00:55:14.68\00:55:18.60 what follows? works follow. 00:55:18.64\00:55:22.62 Now allow me to mention something which is very 00:55:22.65\00:55:24.98 terrifying to me, as we bring this lecture to a close. 00:55:25.02\00:55:28.17 Do you know that there are two texts, there are more but I'm 00:55:28.20\00:55:32.28 going to mention two of them in the New Testament that tell us 00:55:32.31\00:55:35.49 that in the end time, the world is going to be in a terribly 00:55:35.52\00:55:40.68 lawless state. Notice Matthew 24:12, Matthew 24:12. 00:55:40.71\00:55:50.48 Here Jesus is speaking about the signs of His second coming, 00:55:50.51\00:55:55.37 and He says this. Matthew 24: 12. 00:55:55.40\00:56:00.71 That word lawlessness is the same expression, 00:56:04.89\00:56:06.77 transgression of the law of 1 John 3:4. 00:56:06.80\00:56:08.98 What is the consequence? 00:56:11.83\00:56:13.00 What is law breaking? 00:56:15.85\00:56:16.95 It's a lack of what? of love. 00:56:16.98\00:56:21.17 I'll only mention the second passage. 00:56:21.20\00:56:23.34 It's in Matthew 7:21-23. 00:56:23.38\00:56:26.58 We've referred to it before. 00:56:26.62\00:56:29.79 Do you remember that many will come to Jesus in that day, 00:56:29.82\00:56:32.01 and they'll say, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name? 00:56:32.05\00:56:34.69 Lord, Lord, did we not do miracles in Your name? 00:56:34.72\00:56:37.18 Lord, Lord, did we not cast out demons in Your name? 00:56:37.21\00:56:39.97 By the way, are these Christians? 00:56:40.01\00:56:42.40 Do they profess to be Christians? 00:56:42.43\00:56:44.75 Of course. They wouldn't be claiming the name of Jesus 00:56:44.78\00:56:47.05 if they didn't profess to be Christians. 00:56:47.08\00:56:49.44 And what does Jesus answer to them? He says: 00:56:49.47\00:56:51.79 Say what? Christians who practice lawlessness? 00:57:02.79\00:57:07.23 Perhaps these are the Christians who say that you don't have to 00:57:07.26\00:57:10.35 keep the law because Jesus kept it for you. 00:57:10.39\00:57:12.39 Folks, the fact is that these two doctrines have 00:57:12.43\00:57:16.85 overtaken the whole world: the idea that the law of God 00:57:16.89\00:57:20.17 was done away with, and man is immortal. 00:57:20.21\00:57:23.20 May God deliver us from these two great errors. 00:57:23.24\00:57:28.17
