Shall we bow our heads for prayer? 00:01:14.54\00:01:16.26 Our Father in Heaven, we thank You so much for the privilege of 00:01:16.29\00:01:20.02 being in Your house for this very important lecture 00:01:20.05\00:01:23.47 on Messiah's family tree. 00:01:23.50\00:01:25.13 We ask for the guidance of Your Holy Spirit as we open Your Holy 00:01:25.16\00:01:29.83 Word, and we thank You for hearing us for we ask it in 00:01:29.86\00:01:33.58 Jesus' name, Amen. 00:01:33.61\00:01:36.52 I'd like us to begin our study today by going to the book of 00:01:36.55\00:01:41.33 Psalm; Psalm 8 and I want to read verses 3 through 5, 00:01:41.36\00:01:48.09 Psalm 8:3-5. And there are two things that I want to underline 00:01:48.12\00:01:56.03 in these verses as we begin our study today. 00:01:56.06\00:01:59.91 Here David writes the following words: 00:01:59.94\00:02:03.17 Now I want you to notice that in verse 5 we're told that God 00:02:30.37\00:02:33.98 crowned man with glory and honor. 00:02:34.01\00:02:37.30 Now who is crowned? a king. 00:02:37.33\00:02:41.48 And so we find very clearly revealed here that Adam 00:02:41.51\00:02:46.12 was created to be a king. 00:02:46.15\00:02:49.32 Now every king has a territory over which he rules, 00:02:49.35\00:02:54.12 and the question is, over which territory 00:02:54.15\00:02:57.04 did God create Adam to rule? 00:02:57.07\00:03:00.88 In the following verses, starting with verse 6, 00:03:00.91\00:03:03.98 we have a mention of the territory that God gave 00:03:04.01\00:03:07.60 this new king. It says there in verse 6: 00:03:07.63\00:03:11.05 So we notice here two things as we begin our study today: 00:03:33.98\00:03:38.52 1. Adam was created to be king. 00:03:38.55\00:03:43.40 That was his function. 00:03:43.43\00:03:44.93 2. The territory over which Adam was to govern was everything 00:03:44.96\00:03:51.25 relating to planet Earth. 00:03:51.28\00:03:53.54 It says here: the birds of the air, the fish of the sea, 00:03:53.57\00:03:57.34 and all of the animals that wander, or walk upon the earth. 00:03:57.37\00:04:02.89 So two things, as we begin our study: Adam was created to be 00:04:02.92\00:04:07.66 king over planet Earth. 00:04:07.69\00:04:10.69 There's a third point that I want us to underline, 00:04:10.72\00:04:14.60 and understand as we begin our study. 00:04:14.63\00:04:16.85 And that is that according to Genesis 2:9, God placed a tree 00:04:16.88\00:04:22.68 in the garden of Eden, and the purpose of that tree, 00:04:22.71\00:04:26.58 known as the tree of life, was to perpetuate the life of Adam 00:04:26.61\00:04:31.51 and his descendents. 00:04:31.54\00:04:33.00 In other words, it was God's plan that Adam, 00:04:33.03\00:04:36.58 and his descendents, live forever. 00:04:36.61\00:04:40.16 And so three elements we find of God's original plan for man: 00:04:40.19\00:04:44.50 1. God created Adam as king. 00:04:44.53\00:04:49.63 2. His territory was Planet Earth. 00:04:49.66\00:04:53.07 3. God created him to live forever 00:04:53.10\00:04:58.26 along with his descendents. 00:04:58.29\00:05:01.16 Now I'd like us to turn in our Bibles to Luke 3:23, 00:05:01.19\00:05:07.52 Luke 3:23. Here we have the genealogy of Jesus Christ. 00:05:07.55\00:05:14.09 Actually, it goes from the day of Christ when He was born 00:05:14.12\00:05:18.85 all the way back to Adam. 00:05:18.88\00:05:21.74 And I just want to read verse 23 to set the stage for the end 00:05:21.77\00:05:27.16 of the genealogy which is found in verse 38. 00:05:27.19\00:05:30.45 It says in verse 23: 00:05:30.48\00:05:32.68 And then, of course, the list continues: the son of, 00:05:45.67\00:05:49.51 the son of, the son of, until eventually you reach the first 00:05:49.54\00:05:55.54 being which was created by God, and that being was Adam. 00:05:55.57\00:05:59.06 Notice verse 38. It says in verse 38: 00:05:59.09\00:06:02.73 Notice that this king of planet Earth, whom God expected to 00:06:11.80\00:06:16.65 live forever, is called in this genealogy the son of God. 00:06:16.68\00:06:23.37 I want you to remember that point because we're going to 00:06:23.40\00:06:26.69 come back to it a little bit later on. 00:06:26.72\00:06:28.89 The king over planet Earth was called the son of God. 00:06:28.92\00:06:36.07 But then, of course, came the tragedy of sin. 00:06:36.10\00:06:39.92 Turn in your Bibles with me to the gospel of Luke 4:6, 00:06:39.95\00:06:45.62 Luke 4:6. Here Jesus is on the mount of temptation, 00:06:45.65\00:06:52.11 and the devil comes and he tries to entice Jesus 00:06:52.14\00:06:56.24 to take possession of all of the kingdoms of the world. 00:06:56.27\00:06:59.76 Notice Luke 4:6: and the devil said to him... 00:06:59.79\00:07:06.16 Notice here that Satan is offering Jesus all of the 00:07:18.74\00:07:23.01 kingdoms of the world, because the devil says, 00:07:23.04\00:07:26.56 they have been delivered to me, and to whomever I wish I give. 00:07:26.59\00:07:31.97 Now the question is, who delivered these kingdoms to 00:07:32.00\00:07:37.77 Satan? Obviously, it was Adam, because Adam was crowned 00:07:37.80\00:07:43.08 the original king over planet .earth 00:07:43.11\00:07:45.58 If the devil feels like he has the right to offer these 00:07:45.61\00:07:48.31 kingdoms to Jesus, it's because he has taken them, 00:07:48.34\00:07:52.20 he has stolen them from Adam, and he says, I give these 00:07:52.23\00:07:57.31 kingdoms to whomever I wish. 00:07:57.34\00:07:59.34 You see, something terrible happened when Adam and Eve 00:07:59.37\00:08:03.55 sinned. Adam lost his position as king. 00:08:03.58\00:08:07.34 Adam lost his heritage, or his possession, the Earth. 00:08:07.37\00:08:12.08 And now the Bible says that death was going to come into 00:08:12.11\00:08:16.21 the world. Adam, from being lord became a servant, 00:08:16.24\00:08:21.23 or a slave. Notice what we find in Romans 6:16. 00:08:21.26\00:08:27.71 There's a very important principle, which is expressed 00:08:27.74\00:08:30.72 here in Romans 6:16. 00:08:30.75\00:08:34.54 We're told there in the following words what happens 00:08:34.57\00:08:39.86 when a person chooses another master. It says: 00:08:39.89\00:08:43.40 Notice that we become slaves of that individual 00:08:59.08\00:09:02.88 we choose to serve. 00:09:02.91\00:09:04.40 And, of course, when Adam and Eve sinned they chose to become 00:09:04.43\00:09:08.89 subjects of Satan. Adam was no longer king. 00:09:08.92\00:09:13.81 He was no longer lord. 00:09:13.84\00:09:15.62 He no longer had a kingdom or a possession, 00:09:15.65\00:09:19.48 which was the Earth. 00:09:19.51\00:09:20.67 He lost these when he chose another master, Satan. 00:09:20.70\00:09:26.63 The tragic thing is that the Bible tells us that there was 00:09:26.66\00:09:31.50 no one within the human race who could recover 00:09:31.53\00:09:35.27 what had been lost. 00:09:35.30\00:09:36.45 There was no one who could recover kingship. 00:09:36.48\00:09:39.82 There was no one who could recover the Earth. 00:09:39.85\00:09:42.30 There was no one who could save man from death, 00:09:42.33\00:09:45.34 because we're told in Romans 3:10 there is none 00:09:45.37\00:09:52.86 righteous, no not one. 00:09:52.89\00:09:56.70 And in verse 23 the Apostle Paul says, for all have sinned 00:09:56.73\00:10:02.05 and come short of the glory of God. 00:10:02.08\00:10:04.65 In other words, there was no one within the human race 00:10:04.68\00:10:07.87 who could recover kingship, who could recover the Earth, 00:10:07.90\00:10:11.28 who could recover the possibility of living forever, 00:10:11.31\00:10:15.57 because everyone became a slave of Satan by choosing to sin. 00:10:15.60\00:10:20.74 Furthermore, there was no one to save man from death. 00:10:20.77\00:10:24.91 Notice Romans 5:12, Romans 5:12. 00:10:24.94\00:10:31.77 Here we find the terrible consequences 00:10:31.80\00:10:34.77 of the sin of Adam. We're told there: 00:10:34.80\00:10:38.10 So notice that sin came into the world by one man. 00:10:52.59\00:10:56.38 Sin spread among all human beings, and as a result everyone 00:10:56.41\00:11:01.73 came under the sentence of death, 00:11:01.76\00:11:04.72 and not only physical death, but eternal death; 00:11:04.75\00:11:08.58 saying goodbye to life forever. 00:11:08.61\00:11:12.31 And so we find a transition of power. 00:11:12.34\00:11:15.51 Adam the king, with his territory, whom God planned 00:11:15.54\00:11:21.25 to live forever, now is deposed from his thrones. 00:11:21.28\00:11:25.22 Satan takes over the throne. 00:11:25.25\00:11:27.00 He takes over the kingdom. 00:11:27.03\00:11:29.25 He takes over the Earth. 00:11:29.28\00:11:30.85 And he brings in death, and there's no one within the 00:11:30.88\00:11:34.76 human race who can recover that which was lost. 00:11:34.79\00:11:38.82 Obviously, the human race needed a redeemer. 00:11:38.85\00:11:43.22 The human race needed someone who could recover 00:11:43.25\00:11:46.45 that which was lost. 00:11:46.48\00:11:48.01 But who could do it if the Bible says everyone became a slave 00:11:48.04\00:11:52.58 of Satan? Now before I answer this question, I need to tell 00:11:52.61\00:11:57.97 you something about the Hebrew laws of redemption that we find 00:11:58.00\00:12:02.74 in the Old Testament. 00:12:02.77\00:12:03.82 Actually, these laws pointed forward to the Messiah. 00:12:03.85\00:12:07.97 And I want you to notice three of these laws that we find 00:12:08.00\00:12:13.36 in the writings of Moses, which pointed to Jesus. 00:12:13.39\00:12:16.81 Go with me to Leviticus 25:25, Leviticus 25:25. 00:12:16.84\00:12:24.84 We'll speak, first of all, of an individual who for some reason 00:12:24.87\00:12:29.22 sold his inheritance, or sold his plot of land 00:12:29.25\00:12:33.39 in the land of Canaan. 00:12:33.42\00:12:34.74 It was possible if someone sold his land for that land to be 00:12:34.77\00:12:40.54 restored to the original owner. 00:12:40.57\00:12:42.59 Notice Leviticus 25:25 on this point. It says: 00:12:42.62\00:12:49.62 Now in the Hebrew it doesn't say some, the word some is in 00:12:55.87\00:12:58.62 italics, which means that it's added by the translators. 00:12:58.65\00:13:01.52 Actually, it says: 00:13:01.55\00:13:07.25 That is the totality of it. 00:13:07.28\00:13:09.21 Notice we're told here that the person who could redeem the 00:13:20.00\00:13:24.94 possession which had been sold, the plot of land which had been 00:13:24.97\00:13:28.52 sold, the territory which had been sold, was a next of kin. 00:13:28.55\00:13:32.68 A brother or a very close relative could actually pay 00:13:32.71\00:13:37.54 the price to recover that which had been sold 00:13:37.57\00:13:40.95 by the original owner. 00:13:40.98\00:13:42.29 Now what if an individual sold himself into slavery? 00:13:42.32\00:13:46.51 Didn't sell his possession, but sold himself? 00:13:46.54\00:13:48.79 Notice Leviticus 25:48, 49, Leviticus 25:48, 49. 00:13:48.82\00:13:58.77 We're told there: 00:13:58.80\00:14:00.89 By the way, the word redeemed there means to buy back 00:14:06.58\00:14:10.30 by making a payment. 00:14:10.33\00:14:12.09 Who could redeem him? 00:14:14.56\00:14:16.11 That is may pay the price to buy him back, 00:14:21.10\00:14:24.45 buy his freedom back. 00:14:24.48\00:14:25.67 That is a close relative to him. 00:14:33.42\00:14:35.47 So notice that if someone sold himself into slavery, 00:14:41.69\00:14:45.21 a next of kin, a close relative, preferably a brother, 00:14:45.24\00:14:50.77 could pay the price to buy back his freedom. 00:14:50.80\00:14:53.91 A next of kin, or a close relative, could pay the price 00:14:53.94\00:14:57.95 to buy back the heritage, or the inheritance which had been sold. 00:14:57.98\00:15:02.76 Now what happened if an individual died and he had 00:15:02.79\00:15:06.36 no male descendent to perpetuate the name of the family? 00:15:06.39\00:15:10.17 Go with me to the book of Deuteronomy 25:5, 00:15:10.20\00:15:15.22 Deuteronomy 25:5. There was a law in Israel which allowed 00:15:15.25\00:15:23.56 for the name of that individual who had no male descendents, 00:15:23.59\00:15:27.04 to be perpetuated in spite of his death. 00:15:27.07\00:15:30.41 It says there in Deuteronomy 25: If brothers dwell together, 00:15:30.44\00:15:37.11 and one of them dies, and has no son, the widow of the dead 00:15:37.14\00:15:42.73 man shall not be married to a stranger outside the family. 00:15:42.76\00:15:47.69 Her husband's brother shall go in to her, take her as his wife, 00:15:47.72\00:15:53.92 and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her. 00:15:53.95\00:15:58.02 That is, if a man died, he left no male descendent to carry on 00:15:58.05\00:16:03.69 the family name, the next of kin of the dead man was required to 00:16:03.72\00:16:09.18 marry his wife to perpetuate the name of the person who had died. 00:16:09.21\00:16:14.88 So we find three ideas here in the laws of redemption: 00:16:14.91\00:16:19.10 1. A next of kin, or a close relative could pay the price 00:16:19.13\00:16:23.61 to buy back the sold possession. 00:16:23.64\00:16:25.39 2. A next of kin or close relative, 00:16:25.42\00:16:29.25 preferably a brother, could pay the price 00:16:29.28\00:16:32.22 to buy back freedom. 00:16:32.25\00:16:33.81 3. If the name was going to disappear from human history, 00:16:33.84\00:16:38.51 a next of kin, or a relative, could marry the man's wife 00:16:38.54\00:16:42.63 to perpetuate the family name. 00:16:42.66\00:16:45.69 Now what did the human race need? 00:16:45.72\00:16:49.00 The human race needed a next of kin who could pay the price 00:16:49.03\00:16:53.87 to buy back the lost possession, who could pay the price 00:16:53.90\00:16:57.29 to buy back freedom, who could marry the church, so to speak, 00:16:57.32\00:17:03.05 to perpetuate the name of those who died without hope. 00:17:03.08\00:17:07.30 The problem is within the human race there was no next of kin 00:17:07.33\00:17:11.10 who did not become a slave, and who did not sell his 00:17:11.13\00:17:13.78 inheritance, and who did not deserve death. 00:17:13.81\00:17:16.30 So what could the human race do? 00:17:16.33\00:17:19.56 Go with me to Genesis 1:1, Genesis 1:1, and then we're 00:17:19.59\00:17:26.39 going to compare John 1:1-3. 00:17:26.42\00:17:32.42 And I want you to remember three elements 00:17:32.45\00:17:34.53 in this verse in Genesis 1:1. 00:17:34.56\00:17:36.76 That's the first phrase I want you to remember. 00:17:38.95\00:17:40.92 Three elements: In the beginning, God, 00:17:47.04\00:17:50.22 created the heavens and the earth. 00:17:50.25\00:17:51.89 Now the question is, who was this Creator? 00:17:51.92\00:17:55.51 Now as Christians, we believe in the doctrine of the trinity. 00:17:55.54\00:17:59.28 We believe that God is three persons but one God, 00:17:59.31\00:18:03.28 in the same sense that a man and woman are two persons, 00:18:03.31\00:18:06.79 but they're to be one flesh. 00:18:06.82\00:18:08.73 Not that God is one person or one individual. 00:18:08.76\00:18:12.29 They are three persons that are perfectly united in one. 00:18:12.32\00:18:16.45 They are in perfect unity in other words. 00:18:16.48\00:18:19.49 Now the question is, who was this person who created all 00:18:19.52\00:18:25.04 all things, or created the heavens and the earth 00:18:25.07\00:18:27.75 at the beginning? Well, the Bible has the answer 00:18:27.78\00:18:31.35 to that question. Go with me to John 1:1-3, John 1:1-3. 00:18:31.38\00:18:39.96 It says there: 00:18:39.99\00:18:41.68 Do you see the connection with Genesis Chapter 1? 00:18:42.79\00:18:45.22 The same two elements: in the beginning, the Word, 00:18:52.95\00:18:56.28 who was God, did what? Notice verse 3: 00:18:56.31\00:19:00.77 So you have the same three elements: in the beginning, 00:19:17.78\00:19:21.05 the Word who was God, created all things. 00:19:21.08\00:19:24.90 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 00:19:24.93\00:19:29.45 So the Creator of Genesis 1 was none less than 00:19:29.48\00:19:34.16 Jesus Christ Himself. 00:19:34.19\00:19:36.48 Go with me to another text in the New Testament 00:19:36.51\00:19:39.33 which underlines this fact. 00:19:39.36\00:19:41.56 The book of Colossians 1, Colossians 1:15-18, 00:19:41.59\00:19:49.23 Colossians 1:15-18. We find the following words 00:19:49.26\00:19:56.41 speaking about Jesus. 00:19:56.44\00:19:58.51 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all 00:19:58.54\00:20:04.99 creation. Now the word firstborn doesn't mean He was the 00:20:05.02\00:20:07.32 first to be born, it means that He is the pre-eminent one. 00:20:07.35\00:20:10.75 the word firstborn in the Bible is frequently used to refer 00:20:10.78\00:20:14.83 that He's the first among many brethren. 00:20:14.86\00:20:18.10 He's the most important one. 00:20:18.13\00:20:20.02 He's the pre-eminent one. 00:20:20.05\00:20:21.63 Now notice verse 16: For by him, that is by Jesus, all things 00:20:21.66\00:20:28.26 were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, 00:20:28.29\00:20:32.43 visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, 00:20:32.46\00:20:36.83 or principalities, or powers: all things were created through 00:20:36.86\00:20:42.27 him, and for him: and he is before all things, 00:20:42.30\00:20:47.12 and in him all things consist. 00:20:47.15\00:20:50.81 That means all things hold together. 00:20:50.84\00:20:54.32 So the question is, who was the creator of Genesis 1:1-3? 00:20:54.35\00:21:01.59 It was none other than Jesus Christ. 00:21:01.62\00:21:05.13 Now I'm going to ask you a question, and don't answer 00:21:05.16\00:21:07.92 quickly because I don't want anybody to be embarrassed. 00:21:07.95\00:21:10.63 And usually when I ask this question, somebody will blurt 00:21:10.66\00:21:14.08 out the answer very quickly. 00:21:14.11\00:21:16.37 Before Jesus came to this world, was Jesus our close relative, 00:21:16.40\00:21:26.48 our brother, or our next of kin? 00:21:26.51\00:21:30.60 Did Jesus belong to our family before He came to this world? 00:21:30.63\00:21:36.94 The answer is no. He belonged to the family of the trinity. 00:21:36.97\00:21:42.45 He did not belong to our family. 00:21:42.48\00:21:45.36 He did not have flesh and blood. 00:21:45.39\00:21:47.36 So let me ask you, according to the Hebrew laws of redemption 00:21:47.39\00:21:50.30 could Jesus redeem the lost possession? He could not. 00:21:50.33\00:21:55.28 Could Jesus redeem us from slavery to sin? No. 00:21:55.31\00:22:02.12 Could He deliver us from the sentence of death, 00:22:02.15\00:22:05.37 our name disappearing from history? Absolutely not! 00:22:05.40\00:22:08.96 Because the laws of redemption required that he who redeemed 00:22:08.99\00:22:13.39 must be a next of kin of those who were to be redeemed. 00:22:13.42\00:22:18.05 And Jesus, when He was in eternity, when He created this 00:22:18.08\00:22:22.28 world, He belonged to a different family. 00:22:22.31\00:22:26.02 And, by the way, this is the reason why Jesus took upon 00:22:26.05\00:22:32.23 Himself flesh of our flesh, and bone of our bones, so that He 00:22:32.26\00:22:37.87 could become our next of kin, or our brother, and He could 00:22:37.90\00:22:42.19 fulfill the Hebrew laws of redemption. 00:22:42.22\00:22:45.60 Go with me to John 1:14, John 1:14, speaking about this 00:22:45.63\00:22:53.69 same person who created all things that we just read about 00:22:53.72\00:22:57.60 in verse 3. It says in verse 14: 00:22:57.63\00:23:01.19 Notice that the Word, who was with God, and who was God, 00:23:17.48\00:23:21.65 became, or took upon Himself, what? 00:23:21.68\00:23:25.30 Took upon Himself flesh. 00:23:25.33\00:23:27.84 He incorporated Himself into our family, partaking of our flesh, 00:23:27.87\00:23:34.18 our bones, and our blood. 00:23:34.21\00:23:37.63 Notice Hebrews 2:14 on this same point, Hebrews 2:14. 00:23:37.66\00:23:46.78 Here it says: 00:23:46.81\00:23:48.69 That's us. 00:23:51.99\00:23:54.45 Notice that because we have flesh and blood, Jesus partook 00:24:04.83\00:24:10.83 of what? of the same, that through... 00:24:10.86\00:24:14.94 Notice that Jesus, who belonged to the family of the trinity, 00:24:23.30\00:24:27.42 became flesh, became our blood, and dwelt among us. 00:24:27.45\00:24:34.00 In other words, He became our kinsman. 00:24:34.03\00:24:37.38 He became our brother. 00:24:37.41\00:24:39.56 He became our next of kin. 00:24:39.59\00:24:41.57 And as our next of kin He could now fulfill the Hebrew laws 00:24:41.60\00:24:46.51 of redemption. By the way, the mission of Jesus, 00:24:46.54\00:24:50.78 in coming to this earth was twofold. 00:24:50.81\00:24:54.14 Let's do a little parenthesis here. 00:24:54.17\00:24:57.64 Why did Jesus come to this world? 00:24:57.67\00:24:59.78 He came for several reasons, but there are two central 00:24:59.81\00:25:03.82 reasons, and they're reflected in the sacrifice of the lamb 00:25:03.85\00:25:07.74 in the temple service in the Old Testament. 00:25:07.77\00:25:10.23 Do you remember that when an Israelite, or when a priest 00:25:10.26\00:25:15.32 brought a lamb, before he sacrificed the lamb, 00:25:15.35\00:25:19.57 before the lamb was slain, the priest needed to make sure that 00:25:19.60\00:25:23.02 the lamb had no what? had no blemish. 00:25:23.05\00:25:28.19 In other words, the lamb had to be a perfect lamb. 00:25:28.22\00:25:32.16 It could have no spot, and the priest had to examine the lamb 00:25:32.19\00:25:37.59 very carefully to make sure that that lamb had absolutely 00:25:37.62\00:25:43.02 no spot or defect. And when the priest saw that that lamb had 00:25:43.05\00:25:51.43 no defect, then the priest sacrificed the lamb 00:25:51.46\00:25:55.53 for the sins of Israel. 00:25:55.56\00:25:56.81 In this ceremony of the lamb we have the two reasons why Jesus 00:25:56.84\00:26:02.09 came to this world. 00:26:02.12\00:26:03.15 Sometimes we emphasize so much that Jesus came to this world 00:26:03.18\00:26:07.48 to die as the lamb, that we forget that before Jesus could 00:26:07.51\00:26:11.80 die as the lamb, He had to live a perfect, immaculate life 00:26:11.83\00:26:16.56 in order for His death to have value for us. 00:26:16.59\00:26:20.04 And that's the reason why in 1 Peter 1:18-20, which I'll just 00:26:20.07\00:26:27.78 refer to, I won't read it, it speaks about Jesus being a lamb 00:26:27.81\00:26:32.87 without spot, and without defect, who redeemed us 00:26:32.90\00:26:38.67 by paying the price of His precious blood for our sins. 00:26:38.70\00:26:42.55 And so really, Jesus came to this world for two reasons: 00:26:42.58\00:26:47.04 1. He came to live a perfect life without sinning even once. 00:26:47.07\00:26:53.45 2. He came to this world so that after He lived a perfect life 00:26:53.48\00:26:59.54 without sin, He should die the death that all of us must die. 00:26:59.57\00:27:04.79 To live a perfect life, and to die a death for sin. 00:27:04.82\00:27:09.53 And, by the way, when Jesus does this He benefits us in two 00:27:09.56\00:27:14.82 ways. You know I can't come before the throne of God and 00:27:14.85\00:27:18.25 say, Here I am. You have to accept me. 00:27:18.28\00:27:20.37 The Father wouldn't accept me, because I'm a sinner, 00:27:20.40\00:27:23.55 and the wages of sin is death. 00:27:23.58\00:27:25.00 So when I come before the Father, I come before the Father 00:27:25.03\00:27:28.24 and I say, I have no merit. 00:27:28.27\00:27:29.93 I have nothing to offer to you. 00:27:29.96\00:27:31.40 But Jesus lived a perfect life. 00:27:31.43\00:27:33.85 I come to You through the merits of Jesus. 00:27:33.88\00:27:36.51 And the Father looks at Jesus, and He says, Yes, Jesus lived 00:27:36.54\00:27:39.50 a perfect life, and because He stands in your place, 00:27:39.53\00:27:42.26 I looked at you as if you had never sinned. 00:27:42.29\00:27:45.07 In other words, the life of Jesus is imputed to me. 00:27:45.10\00:27:48.74 It is credited to my account. 00:27:48.77\00:27:50.59 That couldn't happen unless Jesus had lived a perfect life 00:27:50.62\00:27:54.23 that He could impute to me. 00:27:54.26\00:27:55.60 But secondly, Jesus died for my sins. 00:27:55.63\00:27:58.22 The death that I should die, He died, so that He can go 00:27:58.25\00:28:01.63 before His Father, and His Father says, 00:28:01.66\00:28:03.82 Where is Pastor Bohr? 00:28:03.85\00:28:04.97 Well, Pastor Bohr is not here. 00:28:05.00\00:28:06.75 I'm representing Him. 00:28:06.78\00:28:08.01 Well, Pastor Bohr should die. 00:28:08.04\00:28:09.17 Jesus says, He's accepted Me, so I paid the death 00:28:09.20\00:28:12.97 that he should pay. 00:28:13.00\00:28:14.03 You need to accept him in Me. 00:28:14.06\00:28:17.03 And so the death of Jesus is also imputed, 00:28:17.06\00:28:21.68 or credited, to my account. 00:28:21.71\00:28:23.42 In other words, the Father looks at me as if I have never 00:28:23.45\00:28:26.65 sinned, and the Father also considers my debt of sin paid 00:28:26.68\00:28:30.88 through Jesus Christ. 00:28:30.91\00:28:33.12 Those are the reasons why Jesus came to this earth. 00:28:33.15\00:28:36.80 But in order to live a life without sin, He had to become 00:28:36.83\00:28:40.37 flesh of our flesh, and bone of our bones. 00:28:40.40\00:28:42.64 In order to pay the death that we should pay, Jesus also had to 00:28:42.67\00:28:47.36 become a human being. 00:28:47.39\00:28:49.24 Now the question is, how far down did Jesus come 00:28:49.27\00:28:53.66 to this earth? Whose nature did Jesus take? 00:28:53.69\00:28:57.18 Did Jesus come to this earth like Adam before Adam sinned, 00:28:57.21\00:29:01.39 or did Jesus come to this world where you and I are? 00:29:01.42\00:29:05.35 Whom did He come to redeem? 00:29:05.38\00:29:08.06 Did He come only to redeem Adam, or did He come to redeem 00:29:08.09\00:29:11.69 the entire human race? 00:29:11.72\00:29:13.60 Notice Romans 8:1-3, Romans 8:1-3. 00:29:13.63\00:29:22.31 The Apostle Paul is very, very clear here about the fact that 00:29:22.34\00:29:26.38 Jesus Christ came to this world. He became our next of kin; 00:29:26.41\00:29:28.42 He became our next of kin in all ways except, of course, 00:29:28.45\00:29:33.60 that He didn't sin. 00:29:33.63\00:29:35.25 Notice Romans 8:1: There is therefore no condemnation 00:29:35.28\00:29:41.35 to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according 00:29:41.38\00:29:46.27 to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 00:29:46.30\00:29:48.34 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me 00:29:48.37\00:29:54.07 free from the law of sin and death. 00:29:54.10\00:29:56.75 And now notice verse 3: For what the law could not do, 00:29:56.78\00:30:01.32 in that it was weak through the flesh, 00:30:01.35\00:30:04.86 (In other words, the law couldn't redeem me because of my 00:30:04.89\00:30:08.33 sinful flesh, because my flesh gives in to sin.) 00:30:08.36\00:30:13.25 It continues saying: God did by sending his own Son 00:30:13.28\00:30:20.48 in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin, 00:30:20.51\00:30:28.86 he condemned sin in the flesh: that the righteous 00:30:28.89\00:30:35.59 requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk 00:30:35.62\00:30:39.59 according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 00:30:39.62\00:30:42.22 In other words, Jesus took my flesh, your flesh. 00:30:42.25\00:30:46.08 He became flesh of our flesh, bone of our bones. 00:30:46.11\00:30:49.94 He came to redeem the lost possession. 00:30:49.97\00:30:53.54 He came to redeem us from slavery to sin. 00:30:53.57\00:30:57.64 He came to redeem us from the sentence of death. 00:30:57.67\00:31:03.11 Now let's go to Luke 1:35 and notice something very 00:31:03.14\00:31:09.34 interesting. Luke 1:35. 00:31:09.37\00:31:12.88 Do you remember that we read the genealogy of Jesus in Luke 3, 00:31:12.91\00:31:17.32 and we noticed that Adam was called the son of God? 00:31:17.35\00:31:23.48 Now notice what Jesus is called when He comes into this world. 00:31:23.51\00:31:27.82 Luke 1:35. It says here: 00:31:27.85\00:31:35.01 That is to Mary. 00:31:39.37\00:31:40.71 What was Jesus going to be called when He was born? 00:32:06.42\00:32:09.63 He would be called the what? the Son of God. 00:32:09.66\00:32:13.44 Now who was called the Son of God at the beginning? Adam. 00:32:13.47\00:32:17.17 This must mean that Jesus came to this world to be the second 00:32:17.20\00:32:23.14 Adam. Jesus came to recover what the first Adam lost. 00:32:23.17\00:32:29.89 He came to take Adam's place. 00:32:29.92\00:32:33.30 He came to recover the crown. 00:32:33.33\00:32:36.62 He came to recover the territory. 00:32:36.65\00:32:39.67 He came to recover life for the human race. 00:32:39.70\00:32:43.74 Everything that Adam lost, Jesus came as the Son of God 00:32:43.77\00:32:48.93 to recover and to restore. 00:32:48.96\00:32:52.99 By the way, the Apostle Paul picks up on this idea of the 00:32:53.02\00:32:56.90 two Adams in 1 Corinthians 15:45, 1 Corinthians 15:45. 00:32:56.93\00:33:05.85 I want to read that verse. Here it says: 00:33:05.88\00:33:08.33 That is because God gave him life. 00:33:15.71\00:33:18.27 And the Apostle Paul also in Romans 5 develops this idea 00:33:24.49\00:33:29.16 of the two Adams. The first Adam lost his throne; 00:33:29.19\00:33:32.37 the first Adam lost his territory; 00:33:32.40\00:33:34.78 the first Adam lost freedom; the first Adam lost life. 00:33:34.81\00:33:39.20 The second Adam, the second Son of God, if you please, 00:33:39.23\00:33:42.91 came and He recovers the throne; He recovers the territory; 00:33:42.94\00:33:47.18 He recovers the hope of eternal life for the human race. 00:33:47.21\00:33:51.66 Jesus came to occupy your place, my place, to redeem that which 00:33:51.69\00:33:58.99 was lost. He came to fulfill the Hebrew laws of redemption, 00:33:59.02\00:34:02.87 and He became flesh of our flesh, and bone of our bones. 00:34:02.90\00:34:06.09 In order to do it He became as much a human being as Adam 00:34:06.12\00:34:10.68 was originally. Now we have some very strange texts in the Bible 00:34:10.71\00:34:17.06 that refer to Jesus. 00:34:17.09\00:34:19.01 Go with me to Revelation 22:16, Revelation 22:16. 00:34:19.04\00:34:26.94 You're going to see what's strange about this verse. 00:34:26.97\00:34:30.40 By the way, Jesus is speaking here and He says: 00:34:30.43\00:34:33.45 And now comes the key portion. 00:34:41.19\00:34:43.48 Now notice what Jesus says: I am the Root and the Offspring 00:34:51.91\00:34:57.36 of David. Now I'm going to ask you a question which might 00:34:57.39\00:35:03.14 appear to be a little bit ridiculous. 00:35:03.17\00:35:04.76 Can I be my son's father, and my son's son at the same time? 00:35:04.79\00:35:15.20 You say, well, that is a dumb question. 00:35:15.23\00:35:18.16 Of course you can. You're either your sons father, 00:35:18.19\00:35:22.81 or your son is your father. 00:35:22.84\00:35:25.53 But you can't be your son's father, and your son's son. 00:35:25.56\00:35:29.63 But this verse is telling us that Jesus is David's father, 00:35:29.66\00:35:35.08 and He's also David's son. 00:35:35.11\00:35:36.59 Because it says that Jesus is the Root of David, 00:35:36.62\00:35:41.54 and He's also the offspring of David. 00:35:41.57\00:35:45.48 Now how do we understand Jesus being the father of David, 00:35:45.51\00:35:48.64 and the son of David? 00:35:48.84\00:35:49.87 It's very simple: Jesus is the father of David as God, 00:35:49.90\00:35:55.01 because when Jesus created Adam, from Adam came David, 00:35:55.04\00:36:00.61 and therefore Jesus created David. 00:36:00.64\00:36:02.80 But as man Jesus is the son of David, because He became 00:36:02.83\00:36:09.61 our close relative. He became our next of kin. 00:36:09.64\00:36:13.17 By the way, this shows that Jesus is God and He is also man. 00:36:13.20\00:36:18.22 You know, in Genesis we have the story of what is called 00:36:18.25\00:36:22.17 Jacob's ladder. It's a misnomer because it really was the Lord's 00:36:22.20\00:36:24.92 ladder. But you have this ladder that is placed on the earth, 00:36:24.95\00:36:29.28 and the uppermost part of the ladder reaches to the highest 00:36:29.31\00:36:33.38 heaven, and God is standing at the top of the ladder. 00:36:33.41\00:36:36.43 Now what does that ladder represent? 00:36:36.46\00:36:39.22 John 1:51 says that the ladder represents Jesus Christ. 00:36:39.25\00:36:44.48 Jesus Himself said so. 00:36:44.51\00:36:46.87 Now, in what sense does that ladder represent Jesus? 00:36:46.90\00:36:51.44 Well, the bottom of the ladder represents the fact that Jesus 00:36:51.47\00:36:55.00 is rooted on earth, because He is a human being along with us. 00:36:55.03\00:36:59.74 The top of the ladder represents the fact that Jesus is one with 00:36:59.77\00:37:04.11 God. In other words, Jesus as man, connects God with us. 00:37:04.14\00:37:08.92 And as God He connects us with God. 00:37:08.95\00:37:12.10 He's the connecting link between heaven and earth. 00:37:12.13\00:37:15.56 He can connect us with the Father because He is God, 00:37:15.59\00:37:18.04 and He can connect the Father with us because He is man. 00:37:18.07\00:37:22.85 Isn't this wonderful? 00:37:22.88\00:37:24.46 In other words, Jesus is the great bridge between heaven 00:37:24.49\00:37:28.43 and earth. So much for the idea that human priests can represent 00:37:28.46\00:37:34.12 us before God. You see, the problem with the priest is, 00:37:34.15\00:37:37.18 first of all, they're all sinners. 00:37:37.21\00:37:39.88 So how can they represent us before God; go before God 00:37:39.91\00:37:43.52 and say I come here representing a sinner. 00:37:43.55\00:37:45.47 God is going to say, you're a sinner, too! 00:37:45.50\00:37:47.54 Secondly, a priest is only human. 00:37:47.57\00:37:51.95 But in order to be a priest, in the strictest sense of the word, 00:37:51.98\00:37:56.91 and I'm not talking about the symbolic priests of the 00:37:56.94\00:37:59.14 Old Testament, which represented Jesus. 00:37:59.17\00:38:01.83 You know, they were only symbols of Christ. 00:38:01.86\00:38:04.13 I'm talking about a real priest, who can represent us before God. 00:38:04.16\00:38:08.08 That priest has to be God, and He has to be man. 00:38:08.11\00:38:11.50 I guess that disqualifies every single human priest, 00:38:11.53\00:38:15.22 with the exception of Jesus, because Jesus is human, 00:38:15.25\00:38:18.95 and Jesus is also God. 00:38:18.98\00:38:21.94 He is the great bridge between heaven and earth. 00:38:21.97\00:38:25.69 Now I want you to notice also Matthew 1:1, Matthew 1:1, 00:38:25.72\00:38:33.11 another one of those strange verses when we compare it with 00:38:33.14\00:38:37.56 John 8, where we're going in a moment. 00:38:37.59\00:38:39.38 Matthew 1, and I want you to notice verse 1. It says: 00:38:39.41\00:38:45.15 Question: was Jesus the son of Abraham? 00:38:57.26\00:39:00.16 He most certainly was. 00:39:00.19\00:39:02.10 But now let's go to John 8:58, John 8:58. 00:39:02.13\00:39:09.07 Here Jesus is entertaining a conversation with several of the 00:39:09.10\00:39:14.75 people that belong to the Jewish nation. 00:39:14.78\00:39:16.81 And in verse 58, Jesus said to them, notice quoting: 00:39:16.84\00:39:22.51 Now isn't this strange? 00:39:33.83\00:39:35.21 We read in Matthew 1:1 that Jesus is the what? 00:39:35.24\00:39:39.89 He is the son of Abraham. 00:39:39.92\00:39:42.95 But in John 8:58, Jesus says, Before Abraham was, I am. 00:39:42.98\00:39:51.37 So Jesus is the father of Abraham, and Jesus is also 00:39:51.40\00:39:56.76 the son of Abraham. He is the father of Abraham because He is 00:39:56.79\00:40:02.69 God. He is the son of Abraham because He is man. 00:40:02.72\00:40:09.17 Now let's talk about our relationship with Jesus. 00:40:09.20\00:40:13.87 Go with me to Galatians 4:4-7, Galatians 4:4-7. 00:40:13.90\00:40:25.08 Here we find a description of the relationship between 00:40:25.11\00:40:29.21 the Father, Jesus, and us. 00:40:29.24\00:40:33.11 You've noticed that I said that we cannot come into the presence 00:40:33.14\00:40:37.02 of God on our own and say, accept me, 00:40:37.05\00:40:40.00 because we're sinners. 00:40:40.03\00:40:41.18 We have to come through our representative. 00:40:41.21\00:40:44.01 Now notice Galatians 4, and beginning with verse 4. It says: 00:40:44.04\00:40:50.10 Now notice verse 5: 00:40:57.61\00:40:59.39 That means to pay a price, to buy back. 00:41:01.75\00:41:04.23 As what? 00:41:10.53\00:41:11.56 So Jesus came to this earth to redeem us from death, 00:41:14.68\00:41:21.33 to redeem us from slavery, according to this, 00:41:21.36\00:41:24.82 so that we might receive the adoption as sons. Verse 6: 00:41:24.85\00:41:30.69 Now I want you to notice something very interesting 00:41:52.72\00:41:55.29 in this passage. Does this passage say that Jesus is the 00:41:55.32\00:41:58.77 Son of God? Has God poured out the Spirit of His Son in us, 00:41:58.80\00:42:03.37 according to this passage? Yes. 00:42:03.40\00:42:05.40 Does this passage also say that when we receive Jesus, 00:42:05.43\00:42:10.00 we also become Sons of God. Yes. 00:42:10.03\00:42:13.24 So God has Jesus, who is His Son, and He has us, 00:42:13.27\00:42:19.02 who are also sons. Now the question is, is Jesus a son 00:42:19.05\00:42:24.59 in the same sense that we are? 00:42:24.62\00:42:26.72 The answer is absolutely not. 00:42:26.75\00:42:30.42 There is only one who deserves to be called the Son of God. 00:42:30.45\00:42:36.38 By the way, do you know that in the gospel of John, 00:42:36.41\00:42:38.91 this is just in the gospel of John, whenever John speaks of 00:42:38.94\00:42:44.42 Christ as being a Son of God, he uses the Greek word, Queos, 00:42:44.45\00:42:51.41 which, by the way, in Spanish we get the word Ehoe from: Queos. 00:42:51.44\00:42:56.21 But whenever John talks about us as being Sons of God, 00:42:56.24\00:43:00.20 he doesn't use the word Queos. 00:43:00.23\00:43:02.49 He uses that one only for Jesus. 00:43:02.52\00:43:04.58 When he talks about us being sons of God, he uses the Greek 00:43:04.61\00:43:09.62 word technon. In this way John is saying that Jesus is 00:43:09.65\00:43:15.25 the Son of God in a different sense than I am a son of God. 00:43:15.28\00:43:19.52 In fact, when I'm born into this world, I am a son of Adam. 00:43:19.55\00:43:24.71 I am a son of the fallen Adam. 00:43:24.74\00:43:26.99 I am a child of wrath. 00:43:27.02\00:43:29.27 We might not like it, but I am a child of the devil. 00:43:29.30\00:43:32.75 Jesus said to the Jews, You are of your father, the devil, 00:43:32.78\00:43:37.61 because they had not been converted. 00:43:37.64\00:43:39.81 And so when I am born into this world, I'm not born into this 00:43:39.84\00:43:43.16 world as a son of God. 00:43:43.19\00:43:44.65 I'm born into this world as a child of wrath. 00:43:44.68\00:43:47.33 The only one who lived a life which deserves to be called 00:43:47.36\00:43:51.40 the Son of God is Jesus. 00:43:51.43\00:43:53.21 And yet this passage says that Jesus is the Son of God, 00:43:53.24\00:43:56.57 and we are sons of God. 00:43:56.60\00:43:58.54 Now the question is, how do we become sons of God? 00:43:58.57\00:44:03.99 The answer is very simple. 00:44:04.02\00:44:06.62 We become sons and daughters of God by becoming brothers 00:44:06.65\00:44:14.99 and sisters of Jesus. 00:44:15.02\00:44:17.06 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:44:19.97\00:44:21.63 In other words, I can't claim to be a son and a daughter of God 00:44:21.66\00:44:26.04 directly. I must join Jesus. 00:44:26.07\00:44:30.01 And when I receive Jesus, I become a brother to Jesus, 00:44:30.04\00:44:33.01 a sister of Jesus. He's my next of kin. 00:44:33.04\00:44:36.69 And then Jesus can go before His Father, and He says, Father, 00:44:36.72\00:44:41.60 I have a new brother. 00:44:41.63\00:44:43.12 And the Father says, what's Your brother's name? 00:44:43.15\00:44:47.07 Well, my brother's name is John. 00:44:47.10\00:44:49.07 And so the Father looks at Jesus and He says, well, if John is 00:44:49.10\00:44:54.46 Your brother, and You're My Son, then John must be my son also. 00:44:54.49\00:44:58.73 That's the way things work. 00:44:58.76\00:45:02.08 In other words, the only way that I can be called 00:45:02.11\00:45:06.40 a Son of God is through joining, or linking my life 00:45:06.43\00:45:12.65 with Jesus Christ; become His brother, His sister, and then 00:45:12.68\00:45:18.28 I can claim to be a son or a daughter of God. 00:45:18.31\00:45:22.43 Notice Hebrews 2:10, Hebrews 2:10. 00:45:22.46\00:45:30.08 Here this great truth is brought to light. 00:45:30.11\00:45:35.15 Hebrews, once again, chapter 2 and beginning with verse 10. 00:45:35.18\00:45:41.23 Here the Apostle Paul, whom I believe to be the author of the 00:45:41.26\00:45:45.80 book of Hebrews, says the following: 00:45:45.83\00:45:48.95 By the way, this is talking about the Father. 00:46:03.32\00:46:06.49 Do you see that the Father and the Son are being spoken of 00:46:11.45\00:46:14.36 here? The Father saw that it was necessary to make the 00:46:14.39\00:46:17.42 Captain of our Salvation perfect. 00:46:17.45\00:46:19.86 That means qualified for His work through suffering. 00:46:19.89\00:46:23.33 Notice verse 11: 00:46:23.36\00:46:25.06 This is speaking about Jesus. 00:46:33.29\00:46:35.37 What is Jesus not ashamed of doing? 00:46:40.78\00:46:42.92 He's not ashamed of calling us what? brethren. 00:46:47.22\00:46:50.67 He's speaking to His Father. 00:46:55.05\00:46:56.55 See God has given children of His to whom? to Jesus. Verse 14: 00:47:12.53\00:47:18.77 That is the children of God. 00:47:21.46\00:47:22.68 Verse 17; key verse. 00:47:48.37\00:47:50.50 In most things, thank you very much. 00:47:52.80\00:47:56.53 He had to be made in all things like unto whom? 00:48:24.62\00:48:28.08 Not like unto Adam, but like unto His brethren, 00:48:28.11\00:48:32.86 according to this. He had to be tempted in all things, 00:48:32.89\00:48:36.81 such as we are, says the Apostle Paul. 00:48:36.84\00:48:40.84 Except that Jesus, though He was tempted, He never what? 00:48:40.87\00:48:44.84 He never sinned. And so Jesus comes to this world. 00:48:44.87\00:48:48.72 He becomes the Son of God in this world, taking the place of 00:48:48.75\00:48:53.80 the original Son of God. 00:48:53.83\00:48:55.26 And Jesus pays the price after living a holy and perfect life. 00:48:55.29\00:49:02.75 In this way, Jesus recovers the throne. 00:49:02.78\00:49:05.93 Jesus recovers the crown. 00:49:05.96\00:49:09.01 Jesus recovers the Earth. 00:49:09.04\00:49:11.59 And Jesus makes it possible for those individuals who are 00:49:11.62\00:49:15.96 sinners to not despair, because they can live forever, 00:49:15.99\00:49:20.71 because Jesus paid the price. 00:49:20.74\00:49:22.52 And by receiving Jesus they become brothers and sisters 00:49:22.55\00:49:27.20 of Jesus, and thus sons and daughters of God. 00:49:27.23\00:49:31.69 If this isn't good news, I don't know what good news is. 00:49:31.72\00:49:36.17 You see, that's what Jesus meant when He said, I am the way, 00:49:36.20\00:49:42.78 the truth, and the life. 00:49:42.81\00:49:48.25 No man cometh unto the Father but by Me. 00:49:48.28\00:49:53.54 You see, the only way we can approach the Father, 00:49:53.57\00:49:57.86 as sons and daughters of God, is through Jesus our brother. 00:49:57.89\00:50:03.05 And, by the way, when the devil comes and tries to intimidate us 00:50:03.08\00:50:06.79 we can say to the devil, hey, I have no power against you. 00:50:06.82\00:50:11.02 You're much more powerful than I am, but you'd better be 00:50:11.05\00:50:13.93 careful, because I'll sick my brother on you, 00:50:13.96\00:50:16.66 and He's much more powerful than you are, 00:50:16.69\00:50:20.08 because He defeated you at the cross. 00:50:20.11\00:50:22.52 He over came you at each step of your life. 00:50:22.55\00:50:25.40 And so you'd better leave me alone. 00:50:25.43\00:50:27.18 In the name of Jesus, I command you to leave me alone. 00:50:27.21\00:50:31.73 And the devil has to leave, because He's my brother. 00:50:31.76\00:50:35.41 And older brothers stick up for their little brothers, 00:50:35.44\00:50:38.98 and for their little sisters. 00:50:39.01\00:50:40.37 How about it? Praise the Lord! 00:50:40.40\00:50:42.53 Go with me to Romans 8:29, Romans 8:29. 00:50:42.56\00:50:49.38 Here we find this same idea of Jesus being the Son, 00:50:49.41\00:50:55.40 Jesus having His Father and us being sons, and brothers and 00:50:55.43\00:51:01.56 sisters of Jesus. Notice Romans 8, and we'll read 00:51:01.60\00:51:05.52 verse 29 first of all. 00:51:05.55\00:51:07.30 It says there: For whom he foreknew, he also predestined 00:51:07.33\00:51:13.79 to be conformed to the image of his Son,... 00:51:13.82\00:51:17.02 The Father wanted all those individuals who come to Jesus 00:51:17.05\00:51:22.34 to be conformed to the image of His Son. 00:51:22.37\00:51:24.34 And now notice: that he might be the firstborn among many 00:51:24.37\00:51:30.23 brethren. Do you see that Jesus is the Son, but through Jesus 00:51:30.26\00:51:37.09 we are His brethren? 00:51:37.12\00:51:38.26 Now notice verse 32, It says: 00:51:38.29\00:51:41.39 He who did not spare his own Son, but delivered him up 00:51:41.42\00:51:49.47 for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us 00:51:49.50\00:51:55.96 all things? So the Father has His Son, Jesus. 00:51:55.99\00:52:01.54 But the Father, besides having Jesus, He has other Sons. 00:52:01.57\00:52:07.65 Those He foreknew, according to what we just read in 00:52:07.68\00:52:11.47 Romans 8:29. That means those who have received Jesus 00:52:11.50\00:52:16.07 as their Savior, and as their Lord. 00:52:16.10\00:52:18.54 Now the question is, how do I receive Jesus? 00:52:18.57\00:52:21.54 How do I become a brother and sister of Jesus? 00:52:21.57\00:52:24.07 Go with me to Galatians 3:26, Galatians 3:26. 00:52:24.10\00:52:31.72 Here we find the definition, or the explanation of how we become 00:52:31.75\00:52:36.89 brothers and sisters of Jesus, and sons and daughters of God. 00:52:36.92\00:52:41.80 It says there in verse 26: 00:52:41.83\00:52:44.10 In what way? 00:52:48.08\00:52:50.41 How do we become sons and daughters of God? 00:52:56.02\00:52:58.25 How do we become sons and daughters of God? 00:53:20.81\00:53:23.42 By receiving Jesus. 00:53:23.45\00:53:25.42 And what ceremony has God given to indicate that we have 00:53:25.45\00:53:29.71 received Jesus as our Savior? 00:53:29.74\00:53:31.96 According to Galatians 3 it is baptism. 00:53:31.99\00:53:35.97 You see, when I am buried in the waters of baptism, 00:53:36.00\00:53:40.22 and I come out of the waters of baptism, God looks at me as 00:53:40.25\00:53:44.32 being included in Jesus. 00:53:44.35\00:53:46.30 And then at that moment the voice of God is heard. 00:53:46.33\00:53:49.97 I can't hear it audibly, but the voice of God is heard, 00:53:50.00\00:53:52.97 like at the baptism of Jesus, saying, This is my beloved Son, 00:53:53.00\00:53:57.34 in whom I am well pleased. 00:53:57.37\00:53:59.18 This is my beloved daughter, in whom I am well pleased. 00:53:59.21\00:54:03.93 So when Jesus was baptized, the Father announced that this 00:54:03.96\00:54:07.99 was His Son. When we are baptized into Christ, we receive 00:54:08.02\00:54:11.84 Him as our brother. Then the Father says, You are now 00:54:11.87\00:54:16.70 My beloved Son. You are now My beloved Daughter. 00:54:16.73\00:54:21.13 The beautiful thing is folks, that through Jesus, 00:54:21.16\00:54:25.66 everything which was lost will be recovered. 00:54:25.69\00:54:29.84 Allow me to conclude by reading a few verses that show that 00:54:29.87\00:54:36.19 what was lost will be recovered through Christ. 00:54:36.22\00:54:39.75 Notice Matthew 5:5; very short verse. 00:54:39.78\00:54:43.55 How about the Earth that Adam lost? 00:54:43.58\00:54:46.96 He lost dominion over the Earth. 00:54:46.99\00:54:49.39 Is that going to be recovered? 00:54:49.42\00:54:50.48 Notice Matthew 5:5. It says: The meek will what? 00:54:50.51\00:54:57.57 The meek will inherit the earth. 00:54:57.60\00:55:00.81 Will we get the inheritance back? 00:55:00.84\00:55:02.80 We most certainly will. 00:55:02.83\00:55:04.71 Through Jesus have we been delivered from slavery to sin. 00:55:04.74\00:55:09.03 And have we become sons and daughters of God through Jesus? 00:55:09.06\00:55:13.09 Yes. You see, Adam sold us into slavery, but Jesus not only 00:55:13.12\00:55:17.02 bought back the earth to give us as an inheritance, 00:55:17.05\00:55:19.48 but Jesus also delivered us from bondage to sin. 00:55:19.51\00:55:22.88 Notice what we find in Galatians where we just read a few moments 00:55:22.91\00:55:26.92 ago. Galatians 4:7, Galatians 4:7, here the Apostle Paul says 00:55:26.95\00:55:33.89 this for those who have accepted Jesus: 00:55:33.92\00:55:35.96 Are we slaves anymore? 00:55:48.36\00:55:51.06 Not according to this. 00:55:51.09\00:55:52.82 Are we disinherited anymore? 00:55:52.85\00:55:55.68 No, we are heirs through Jesus of that which was lost. 00:55:55.71\00:56:00.59 Now what about perpetuating the name of the dead. 00:56:00.62\00:56:04.83 You know, this is where the symbol in the Old Testament is 00:56:04.86\00:56:07.24 not as perfect as the reality. 00:56:07.27\00:56:08.65 See, in the Old Testament when a man died without any male seed, 00:56:08.68\00:56:14.82 in order for the name of the dead person to continue 00:56:14.85\00:56:19.72 the next of kin had to marry the wife. 00:56:19.75\00:56:24.41 But you see, the reality that this points to is far greater 00:56:24.44\00:56:28.64 than the symbol, because Jesus when He came to this earth, 00:56:28.67\00:56:33.44 He did not only come to perpetuate our name, 00:56:33.47\00:56:36.31 He came that if we should die, He will perpetuate us. 00:56:36.34\00:56:43.08 Not only our name, but He will resurrect us from the dead 00:56:43.11\00:56:47.47 and He will perpetuate us. 00:56:47.50\00:56:49.85 See He's not only interested in perpetuating our name, 00:56:49.88\00:56:53.16 but He's interested in resurrecting us from the dead 00:56:53.19\00:56:56.32 though we should die, that our name will not be erased 00:56:56.35\00:56:59.36 from the book of life, and we will live forever and ever 00:56:59.39\00:57:02.77 in His presence. Through Jesus everything which was lost 00:57:02.80\00:57:08.81 was recovered. And all we need to do is receive Jesus. 00:57:08.84\00:57:15.36 I am the way, the truth, and the life: 00:57:15.39\00:57:18.15 no man comes unto the Father, but by Me. 00:57:18.18\00:57:21.20 May we all come to the Father! 00:57:21.23\00:57:22.26
