The Bible says that 00:00:01.06\00:00:02.32 those who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 00:00:02.35\00:00:06.96 But what exactly is the real name of the Lord? 00:00:06.99\00:00:10.41 Join us today on "Back to Our Roots" 00:00:10.44\00:00:12.07 and you will find out. 00:00:12.10\00:00:14.13 Hello, and welcome once again to Back to our Roots. 00:00:32.92\00:00:35.57 I am your host, Pastor Alex Schlusser, 00:00:35.60\00:00:37.94 and my co-host-- Rachel Hyman. 00:00:37.97\00:00:39.71 And we are once again so happy that 00:00:39.74\00:00:41.74 you have decided to carve out a little bit of time 00:00:41.77\00:00:44.65 and join us today. 00:00:44.68\00:00:46.00 Today on our program, 00:00:46.03\00:00:47.46 we are talking about the name of God. 00:00:47.49\00:00:50.25 Big controversy. 00:00:50.28\00:00:51.31 Now, you know that may seem like 00:00:51.34\00:00:53.15 such a simple straightforward thing. 00:00:53.18\00:00:55.15 Well, what's God's name? 00:00:55.18\00:00:56.31 God. Yeah. 00:00:56.34\00:00:57.46 But there's way more to it, 00:00:57.49\00:00:58.80 and we're gonna explore that today. 00:00:58.83\00:01:00.49 You know as you said Rachel, there is a lot of controversy. 00:01:00.52\00:01:03.72 Have you run into any of that? 00:01:03.75\00:01:05.79 Yeah, definitely I mean 00:01:05.82\00:01:07.07 I know some people who would say that, 00:01:07.10\00:01:08.94 if you don't know the exact correct name of God, 00:01:08.97\00:01:12.22 then your salvation is literally at risk, 00:01:12.25\00:01:14.33 because you are not calling Him by His right name. 00:01:14.36\00:01:16.92 Yeah, there are a lot of people 00:01:16.95\00:01:18.82 that actually get very militant about it. Yeah. 00:01:18.85\00:01:22.11 Which is really ashamed as we are gonna see. 00:01:22.14\00:01:24.89 So how do we begin the process of even figuring out 00:01:24.92\00:01:29.28 what God wants us to call Him? Good question. 00:01:29.31\00:01:33.05 You know, I know that for a long time 00:01:33.08\00:01:35.35 I felt very comfortable just saying, Abba. 00:01:35.38\00:01:37.71 Yeah, dad, daddy. 00:01:37.74\00:01:38.77 Abba is the Hebrew word for daddy, right? 00:01:38.80\00:01:41.84 Because I think ultimately 00:01:41.87\00:01:43.47 that's who God should be to us. Totally. 00:01:43.50\00:01:45.40 Or Father, Abba, Daddy. 00:01:45.43\00:01:47.82 But there's a lot more to it 00:01:47.85\00:01:49.12 as in the scripture that you brought out. 00:01:49.15\00:01:50.78 "Those who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." 00:01:50.81\00:01:54.26 The first time I ever saw that scripture I went, 00:01:54.29\00:01:57.37 okay, so what exactly is the name 00:01:57.40\00:02:01.47 that we're supposed to call upon? 00:02:01.50\00:02:04.11 So at this point I want to get deep into our discussion today 00:02:04.14\00:02:07.89 because we're gonna be talking about a lot of Hebrew 00:02:07.92\00:02:10.90 and tearing things apart today 00:02:10.93\00:02:12.72 so, we're gonna invite our friend, 00:02:12.75\00:02:15.08 our resident scholar, Dr. Alexander Bolotnikov. 00:02:15.11\00:02:18.78 We need you, Sasha. Sasha, yes. 00:02:18.81\00:02:21.24 I'm glad to be with you, Alex and Rachel. 00:02:21.27\00:02:24.41 Yes, Sasha, how are you doing today? 00:02:24.44\00:02:25.75 You're looking bright. Yes. 00:02:25.78\00:02:27.95 Nice bright color today. 00:02:27.98\00:02:30.01 Sasha, we're talking about the name of God 00:02:30.04\00:02:32.52 and you and I have had lengthy discussions about this. 00:02:32.55\00:02:36.32 How in some circles within Christianity 00:02:36.35\00:02:38.83 this has become even a point of division within congregations 00:02:38.86\00:02:42.57 which is really crazy 'cause that must 00:02:42.60\00:02:44.62 completely grieve the heart of God 00:02:44.65\00:02:46.72 that people are breaking up and arguing over His name. 00:02:46.75\00:02:50.52 So, you know, I guess the big question is, 00:02:50.55\00:02:54.40 you know how in fact are we to address Him. 00:02:54.43\00:02:57.49 And I'd like for you first to explore 00:02:57.52\00:02:59.94 and let's talk about the idea of translation 00:02:59.97\00:03:02.59 and then the proper names because, 00:03:02.62\00:03:04.75 you know, we know that God reveals Himself, 00:03:04.78\00:03:07.33 the scriptures reveal Him in a lot of different names, 00:03:07.36\00:03:11.51 Lord our righteousness 00:03:11.54\00:03:13.15 and so on, all these different things 00:03:13.18\00:03:15.07 the Lord that heals, and the Lord our banner 00:03:15.10\00:03:18.27 and all of these names 00:03:18.30\00:03:20.35 really reveal aspects of His character. 00:03:20.38\00:03:22.87 But they don't speak directly to-- His exact name. 00:03:22.90\00:03:26.31 Right! What are we supposed to call Him? 00:03:26.34\00:03:28.95 Well, it's interesting that we have a good example 00:03:28.98\00:03:33.90 of how are we supposed to address God. 00:03:33.93\00:03:37.00 And it's in the New Testament 00:03:37.03\00:03:40.07 in the Sermon on the Mountain, 00:03:40.10\00:03:41.70 Lord's Prayer, Jesus says, 'Our father, 00:03:41.73\00:03:45.21 who is in heaven' and you know I have, 00:03:45.24\00:03:49.29 I'm asking these questions to people who have children, 00:03:49.32\00:03:53.70 you know and I say, 00:03:53.73\00:03:55.76 what if your son calls you by the first name? 00:03:55.79\00:03:59.90 How would you accept this? 00:03:59.93\00:04:03.57 And people said I'll be offended. 00:04:03.60\00:04:06.00 You know, it's the sign of disrespect. 00:04:06.03\00:04:08.84 And for that specific reason in Jewish tradition 00:04:08.87\00:04:14.39 the name of God which is four letter, 00:04:14.42\00:04:17.99 four Hebrew letter Yod, Hey, Vav, Hey. 00:04:18.02\00:04:21.24 Right, that's also known as the Tetragrammaton, right? 00:04:21.27\00:04:23.57 Yeah, tetragrammaton. 00:04:23.60\00:04:25.05 And it was never pronounced by the Jewish people. 00:04:25.08\00:04:31.42 And it created a bit of confusion for example, 00:04:31.45\00:04:36.22 because of the translators of King James Bible 00:04:36.25\00:04:39.70 back in 1600's they didn't know about this Jewish tradition. 00:04:39.73\00:04:45.77 When they saw the name of God 00:04:45.80\00:04:48.22 and, you know, how in Hebrew you have the consonants 00:04:48.25\00:04:51.60 and then at the bottom vowels. 00:04:51.63\00:04:53.54 So, so you understand in Hebrew writing 00:04:53.57\00:04:56.74 what appears to be all the letters 00:04:56.77\00:04:58.59 that you would see, 00:04:58.62\00:04:59.65 those are actually all the consonants. 00:04:59.68\00:05:02.00 The vowels appear as dots, as marks, as dashes and so on. 00:05:02.03\00:05:07.39 So this is what Sasha's, what Sasha is referring to. 00:05:07.42\00:05:09.96 Yes, yes, so the translators of King James Bible 00:05:09.99\00:05:13.69 didn't know that the name of God, Yod, Hey. 00:05:13.72\00:05:16.68 Vav, Hey these four letters were vocalized. 00:05:16.71\00:05:19.81 The dots were put intentionally wrong 00:05:19.84\00:05:23.30 and that's why they come with this Jehovah 00:05:23.33\00:05:27.26 and Jehovah such a word doesn't exist in Hebrew. 00:05:27.29\00:05:31.16 And I know for many years 00:05:31.19\00:05:33.61 and until today there were these people 00:05:33.64\00:05:35.58 who believe that God needs to be called Jehovah. 00:05:35.61\00:05:40.15 And I know that even in our saying this, 00:05:40.18\00:05:42.85 there are some of you sitting at home, 00:05:42.88\00:05:44.40 scratching your head going, wait a minute. 00:05:44.43\00:05:46.73 You know, I for as long as I've known, 00:05:46.76\00:05:48.58 I've thought that we are to call God Jehovah 00:05:48.61\00:05:51.97 that it appears in songs, 00:05:52.00\00:05:53.20 that it appears in all these places. 00:05:53.23\00:05:55.57 And to try and explain to them wait a minute, 00:05:55.60\00:05:58.45 the whole way that that term came out 00:05:58.48\00:06:02.39 was a misunderstanding or a lack of knowledge about 00:06:02.42\00:06:05.39 what the Hebrew really was doing. Interesting. 00:06:05.42\00:06:07.95 Yeah, and the Hebrew was trying to actually dissuade it 00:06:07.98\00:06:11.26 either from actually pronouncing the name of God 00:06:11.29\00:06:16.74 out of respect, out of reverence, 00:06:16.77\00:06:20.57 you know, that's the treatment to the name. 00:06:20.60\00:06:23.16 So what would-- how it would be, 00:06:23.19\00:06:24.52 you mean without putting vowels there, 00:06:24.55\00:06:27.45 that it was like so people could almost skip over 00:06:27.48\00:06:29.41 so they don't verbalize it or-- 00:06:29.44\00:06:30.47 No, they don't verbalize it. 00:06:30.50\00:06:32.00 Instead of Yod, Hey, Vav, Hey 00:06:32.03\00:06:34.95 and you know, grammatical 00:06:34.98\00:06:36.71 it's most likely being pronounced 'Yahweh'. Okay. 00:06:36.74\00:06:40.98 It's based on the Hebrew grammar and some other sources. 00:06:41.01\00:06:44.82 But the Jewish tradition always 00:06:44.85\00:06:48.80 whenever you see Yod, Hey, Vav, Hey 00:06:48.83\00:06:50.73 you have to say it as Adonai, mean Our Lord. 00:06:50.76\00:06:55.92 Our Lord. 00:06:55.95\00:06:56.98 So they don't actually pronounce it 00:06:57.01\00:06:58.68 the way it's literally supposed to be pronounced out of respect 00:06:58.71\00:07:01.94 and then they'd say our Lord. 00:07:01.97\00:07:03.19 They're substituting, very interesting. 00:07:03.22\00:07:05.33 Yeah, they are substituting. 00:07:05.36\00:07:07.13 And that's how Jews express reverence 00:07:07.16\00:07:11.41 when they deal with the name of God. 00:07:11.44\00:07:14.31 I know they also, if they're writing 00:07:14.34\00:07:15.87 Gods name down on papers 00:07:15.90\00:07:17.23 if they're writing God or something 00:07:17.26\00:07:18.38 it'll be like G-d. 00:07:18.41\00:07:20.07 Yes. Out of respect. 00:07:20.10\00:07:21.58 Yeah, out of respect, 00:07:21.61\00:07:22.92 yeah, and there is also that's a little different 00:07:22.95\00:07:25.97 because, you know, because in Hebrew 00:07:26.00\00:07:28.48 you write left, you read-- 00:07:28.51\00:07:30.97 From right to left. Right to left. 00:07:31.00\00:07:32.60 You know when you read God, 00:07:32.63\00:07:34.04 you know, so they wouldn't be reading as letters. 00:07:34.07\00:07:37.29 Right! I know an American Jews would do something like that. 00:07:37.32\00:07:39.95 Yeah, yeah, yeah. 00:07:39.98\00:07:41.01 And so they usually put that, 00:07:41.04\00:07:43.02 but that's again the sign of extreme 00:07:43.05\00:07:45.53 reverence and respect. 00:07:45.56\00:07:48.01 Because calling somebody as a friend is like more of, 00:07:48.04\00:07:53.86 you know-- Appropriate 00:07:53.89\00:07:55.00 to call friend by their name but-- 00:07:55.03\00:07:56.37 Yeah, you know calling somebody 00:07:56.40\00:07:58.41 by first name is more of a casual 00:07:58.44\00:08:01.76 and people don't, and Jews don't want to address God casually. 00:08:01.79\00:08:06.43 And by the way his name Yod, Hey, Vav, 00:08:06.46\00:08:09.49 Hey is not the only one which is in scripture. 00:08:09.52\00:08:13.84 We have specific text, Exodus 6:1. 00:08:13.87\00:08:19.64 This is Moses asking, 00:08:19.67\00:08:20.87 who I'm I supposed to tell the people has sent me. 00:08:20.90\00:08:23.56 Actually that's Exodus 3. 00:08:23.59\00:08:27.33 But in Exodus 6, God says, to your fathers 00:08:27.36\00:08:33.89 I have revealed myself with the name God Almighty 00:08:33.92\00:08:41.67 but with the name Yod, Hey, Vav, Hey 00:08:41.70\00:08:45.23 I have not revealed myself. 00:08:45.26\00:08:47.47 So you don't have a single name for God, 00:08:47.50\00:08:51.02 that's this text really proves that there is another name. 00:08:51.05\00:08:54.95 And the people of course many people 00:08:54.98\00:08:57.15 who don't read Hebrew and they see God Almighty, 00:08:57.18\00:09:00.08 they are not aware that actually Almighty is what's El Shaddai. 00:09:00.11\00:09:05.97 And Shaddai is not Almighty. 00:09:06.00\00:09:08.36 Actually Shaddai is indeed also a proper name. 00:09:08.39\00:09:11.97 We don't have such a word in Hebrew that is Shaddai. 00:09:12.00\00:09:18.41 So, you know, there are many versions of it, 00:09:18.44\00:09:21.85 I tend to agree with rabbis who translate it as God 00:09:21.88\00:09:27.51 who said enough is enough, it's a God the Judge. 00:09:27.54\00:09:31.30 Enough is enough, interesting. 00:09:31.33\00:09:32.98 What about that passage that I wrongly quoted? 00:09:33.01\00:09:36.43 Sorry, but the Exodus Chapter 3 when Moses is asking, 00:09:36.46\00:09:42.47 you know, who am I supposed to tell the people has sent me, 00:09:42.50\00:09:44.95 and that's where God says, I am that I am. 00:09:44.98\00:09:47.05 Yeah, exactly. 00:09:47.08\00:09:48.15 And this is also a translation. 00:09:48.18\00:09:51.20 In fact that's how God introduced His name. 00:09:51.23\00:09:54.33 His, you know before the Yod, Hey, Vav, Hey come on stage, 00:09:54.36\00:09:58.96 He says I am that I am. 00:09:58.99\00:10:01.35 And this is where we have 00:10:01.38\00:10:03.43 a little bit of grammatical issues, 00:10:03.46\00:10:05.62 because I have to tell you, 00:10:05.65\00:10:08.09 English as well as German, French, Spanish, 00:10:08.12\00:10:11.64 they have many tenses I believe English, 00:10:11.67\00:10:14.62 you correct me if I'm wrong has at least 12 tenses? 00:10:14.65\00:10:19.29 And-- You might know better than we. 00:10:19.32\00:10:22.28 Well-- That's what you study. 00:10:22.31\00:10:23.99 Yeah, in order for me to speak English, 00:10:24.02\00:10:26.31 I mean in Russian we have past, future and present. Okay. 00:10:26.34\00:10:30.30 In English I have to figure out, 00:10:30.33\00:10:32.18 is it past simple or past perfect or future perfect. 00:10:32.21\00:10:36.83 So you're saying when God said I am 00:10:36.86\00:10:38.22 that I am, is there controversy over 00:10:38.25\00:10:39.94 whether that was present or something? 00:10:39.97\00:10:41.46 Well, Hebrew language doesn't have verb tenses. 00:10:41.49\00:10:45.80 It has verb forms, the verb appears 00:10:45.83\00:10:48.47 either as a finite action or infinite action, 00:10:48.50\00:10:54.04 so I am that I am is like infinite being, 00:10:54.07\00:10:59.04 so God who exist and he-- From beginning to end. 00:10:59.07\00:11:02.52 From beginning, well, there is no beginning and end. Right. 00:11:02.55\00:11:06.27 It's infinite exist, infinitely existing God. 00:11:06.30\00:11:10.31 He always been and He always will be and He is. 00:11:10.34\00:11:14.58 Okay, so you're bringing up these names 00:11:14.61\00:11:16.57 that God is calling Himself in the Book of Exodus. 00:11:16.60\00:11:19.16 When did this Yod, Hey, Vav, Hey come up about? 00:11:19.19\00:11:22.16 Or when is it first written in the Bible? 00:11:22.19\00:11:23.83 Well, first it appears in Genesis Chapter 2. 00:11:23.86\00:11:28.52 Okay. 00:11:28.55\00:11:29.58 So is that officially God's first name 00:11:29.61\00:11:32.95 in the Bible that we know about. 00:11:32.98\00:11:34.40 One of the names, it appears like 00:11:34.43\00:11:37.22 it talks about Elohim which is translated as God. 00:11:37.25\00:11:42.42 And it uses Yod, Hey, Vav, Hey which is translated as the Lord. 00:11:42.45\00:11:48.62 And the translation is based on a fact 00:11:48.65\00:11:51.39 that every time Jews read this they say Adonai our Lord. 00:11:51.42\00:11:56.44 So English translate that sees Yod, Hey, Vav, Hey, 00:11:56.47\00:11:59.29 it says the Lord. 00:11:59.32\00:12:00.91 And it sees Elohim translates God. 00:12:00.94\00:12:03.51 So and in. 00:12:03.54\00:12:05.73 Does Yod, Hey, Vav, Hey, 00:12:05.76\00:12:07.00 literally mean our Lord, is that just the -- 00:12:07.03\00:12:08.85 their chosen piece of sub, their chosen substitute. 00:12:08.88\00:12:11.20 That's based on Jewish tradition. 00:12:11.23\00:12:13.27 Jewish tradition, okay. 00:12:13.30\00:12:14.39 Yeah, that's based of Jewish tradition. 00:12:14.42\00:12:16.55 We just said the literal translation 00:12:16.58\00:12:18.75 of Yod, Hey, Vav, Hey 00:12:18.78\00:12:19.98 is somebody, someone who in who exists forever infinitely 00:12:20.01\00:12:25.24 with no beginning and no end. 00:12:25.27\00:12:27.03 That's the literal translation. 00:12:27.06\00:12:29.55 But, you know, reverently, Adonai, Our Lord 00:12:29.58\00:12:34.89 and this is where many people are extremely, 00:12:34.92\00:12:41.37 you know, that's where they come and say, oh, 00:12:41.40\00:12:44.63 it's not correct, this is wrong. 00:12:44.66\00:12:48.94 But we have to look at the example of Jesus. 00:12:48.97\00:12:54.25 What we have in the New Testament is 00:12:54.28\00:12:57.68 Jesus and the Apostles and the Gospel writers 00:12:57.71\00:13:03.35 quote the Old Testament passages. 00:13:03.38\00:13:08.21 They quote these Old Testament passages in Greek of course. 00:13:08.24\00:13:14.27 And I have to address this right away 00:13:14.30\00:13:17.29 because there is this conspiracy's theory 00:13:17.32\00:13:20.51 that goes that, 00:13:20.54\00:13:22.26 you know, you don't have that 00:13:22.29\00:13:23.78 the Greek text of the New Testament 00:13:23.81\00:13:26.73 which we receive today is a wrong text, 00:13:26.76\00:13:29.88 that was somewhere hidden away 00:13:29.91\00:13:32.56 Hebrew text of the-- of the Old Testament. 00:13:32.59\00:13:35.96 I have to be very straight, 00:13:35.99\00:13:37.75 this is an absolute nonsense. Okay. 00:13:37.78\00:13:40.97 For the very simple reason. 00:13:41.00\00:13:43.40 You know, you have to understand the Jewish reality. 00:13:43.43\00:13:47.11 You were born in America, Rachel, right? Mm-hmm. 00:13:47.14\00:13:51.21 Do you speak Hebrew? 00:13:51.24\00:13:52.51 Not at all really, I can sing it but I don't really speak it. 00:13:52.54\00:13:55.35 You know, you have many Jewish friends? 00:13:55.38\00:13:58.00 I used to. 00:13:58.03\00:13:59.74 I don't live in Jewish neighborhood anymore, 00:13:59.77\00:14:01.32 I am in Wyoming. 00:14:01.35\00:14:02.49 Yeah, but you grew up-- 00:14:02.52\00:14:04.67 I grew up in the Jewish community 00:14:04.70\00:14:06.03 and I had many Jewish friends. 00:14:06.06\00:14:07.38 Your parents spoke Hebrew? 00:14:07.41\00:14:08.90 No, none of them spoke Hebrew. 00:14:08.93\00:14:10.39 So the Jewish whom you met across the America, 00:14:10.42\00:14:13.09 what language do they speak? 00:14:13.12\00:14:14.38 English. 00:14:14.41\00:14:15.44 Of course, so if I give you something in Hebrew 00:14:15.47\00:14:18.06 are you gonna read it? 00:14:18.09\00:14:20.09 I can read it but I don't know 00:14:20.12\00:14:21.34 the exact words that I'm saying 00:14:21.37\00:14:22.94 'cause I learned it from my Bat Mitzvah, you know. 00:14:22.97\00:14:24.33 That's the point. 00:14:24.36\00:14:26.02 You know, I learned my Hebrew when I started 00:14:26.05\00:14:29.07 l-- I learning Hebrew when I turned 18. 00:14:29.10\00:14:30.88 I grew up speaking Russian in Russia. 00:14:30.91\00:14:34.03 You know so there are 00:14:34.06\00:14:36.01 Jews across the world, speak the language 00:14:36.04\00:14:38.76 of the country they grew up with. 00:14:38.79\00:14:41.10 Okay. 00:14:41.13\00:14:42.16 And as we talked in our program, 00:14:42.19\00:14:44.20 for you know, back then the first century 00:14:44.23\00:14:47.23 you have 70% Jews living outside of Judah 00:14:47.26\00:14:52.03 do not speak in any Hebrew 00:14:52.06\00:14:54.65 and what kind of sense would anybody make 00:14:54.68\00:14:59.53 if they receive a text in Hebrew they can't understand. 00:14:59.56\00:15:03.54 So what are you trying to say? 00:15:03.57\00:15:04.98 What I am saying is 00:15:05.01\00:15:06.32 that the fact that the New Testament 00:15:06.35\00:15:09.29 was written in Greek, 00:15:09.32\00:15:11.33 it was done for purpose, so that people could read. 00:15:11.36\00:15:15.95 Today Hebrew, academic Hebrew 00:15:15.98\00:15:18.28 I know may be 10, 15,000 people 00:15:18.31\00:15:20.60 who can read academic Hebrew. 00:15:20.63\00:15:22.61 That's why today the most books published in English. 00:15:22.64\00:15:25.81 Back then most books wanted to have widespread audience 00:15:25.84\00:15:29.51 were written in Greek. 00:15:29.54\00:15:31.39 So are you saying that, 00:15:31.42\00:15:32.49 this English words we're saying have been put there 00:15:35.54\00:15:37.51 so that we can understand the meaning? 00:15:37.54\00:15:38.81 Of course, of course. Right? 00:15:38.84\00:15:40.48 See, this is when we get back, 00:15:40.51\00:15:42.73 so we go back to the text of the Gospel, 00:15:42.76\00:15:45.77 and here the Gospel authors the apostles 00:15:45.80\00:15:49.20 are reading and citing the text 00:15:49.23\00:15:52.07 of the Old Testament that have this Yod, 00:15:52.10\00:15:54.36 Hey, Vav, Hey. And guess what? 00:15:54.39\00:15:56.22 Do they have this in Greek? No. 00:15:56.25\00:15:58.41 There is no single instance in a New Testament 00:15:58.44\00:16:01.60 where you have Yod, Hey, Vav, Hey. 00:16:01.63\00:16:03.91 What you have is the Greek word 'Kurios' 00:16:03.94\00:16:07.98 which means the Lord and Jesus cites Himself several times, 00:16:08.01\00:16:15.37 the Lord, the Lord, the Lord. 00:16:15.40\00:16:17.24 Why the Kurios because when Jesus cites Old Testament, 00:16:17.27\00:16:21.80 He doesn't pronounce the name of His Father as Yahweh, 00:16:21.83\00:16:26.07 he says, 'My Lord, My Lord why Thou have forsaken Me' 00:16:26.10\00:16:31.02 before He's dead. 00:16:31.05\00:16:32.49 He didn't cry out Yahweh, Yahweh, 00:16:32.52\00:16:34.71 why have Thou forsaken me. 00:16:34.74\00:16:37.23 You know that's the last word Jesus cried out at the cross. 00:16:37.26\00:16:41.89 --So that brings us back to, 00:16:41.92\00:16:43.68 is there a name that is above all the other names, 00:16:43.71\00:16:47.23 you know of God is there specific, is Yod, 00:16:47.26\00:16:49.00 Hey, Vav, Hey is that the most important name 00:16:49.03\00:16:51.87 or from what I'm gathering from you is 00:16:51.90\00:16:54.57 God didn't necessarily choose one name 00:16:54.60\00:16:58.41 that's above all the other names except, 00:16:58.44\00:17:01.27 Jesus did say when you pray say, our father. 00:17:01.30\00:17:04.65 That's the point. 00:17:04.68\00:17:05.71 When we pray we address God as our Father, 00:17:05.74\00:17:09.40 our Lord and there is no any indication in the Bible 00:17:09.43\00:17:14.29 that you have to keep pronouncing Yahweh or Yod, 00:17:14.32\00:17:18.15 Hey, Vav, Hey as the name above all the names. 00:17:18.18\00:17:22.13 Well, this of course it occurs many times in the Bible 00:17:22.16\00:17:26.22 but that's all. 00:17:26.25\00:17:27.48 You know that reminds me, 00:17:27.51\00:17:28.54 I told Alex this the other day, 00:17:28.57\00:17:30.06 I have a friend who just had a baby 00:17:30.09\00:17:32.64 and I said how is little Angelica doing? 00:17:32.67\00:17:34.62 And she said whoa, whoa, whoa, 00:17:34.65\00:17:35.86 it's not Angelica, it's Enhilica and I said okay, 00:17:35.89\00:17:39.34 I'm sorry you know, sometimes people treat God-- 00:17:39.37\00:17:42.84 we put our human attributes to God thinking that 00:17:42.87\00:17:45.16 God gets upset with us, 00:17:45.19\00:17:47.00 he must be very upset with us 00:17:47.03\00:17:48.34 that we call Him by his wrong name 00:17:48.37\00:17:49.87 but God is God, He is much more patient 00:17:49.90\00:17:52.57 and is what it matters 00:17:52.60\00:17:53.89 what's in our heart is, right, Alex? 00:17:53.92\00:17:55.35 And I think that people whether they know the Hebrew 00:17:55.38\00:17:59.43 or the Greek can get saved. 00:17:59.46\00:18:01.42 Right. 00:18:01.45\00:18:02.48 You know, I remember running into people 00:18:02.51\00:18:06.03 arguing that unless you said Yeshua, 00:18:06.06\00:18:10.63 if you said Jesus you aren't saved. 00:18:10.66\00:18:12.95 Yeah, God's not gonna accept you. 00:18:12.98\00:18:14.24 Which of course is-- Ridiculous. 00:18:14.27\00:18:17.56 It's sad. It is sad. 00:18:17.59\00:18:19.03 By the way this is an absolute 00:18:19.06\00:18:21.18 lack of knowledge of any language. 00:18:21.21\00:18:23.34 See, internet has all these materials, 00:18:23.37\00:18:25.99 but people who read it 00:18:26.02\00:18:27.43 unfortunately don't know what they are talking about. 00:18:27.46\00:18:30.78 They don't understand that Jesus is an Yeshua, 00:18:30.81\00:18:34.08 it's a anglicized version of the same-- 00:18:34.11\00:18:38.54 It's the same. 00:18:38.57\00:18:39.60 It's absolutely the same thing. 00:18:39.63\00:18:41.53 In order to understand it you need to know 00:18:41.56\00:18:43.51 little bit more than just English. 00:18:43.54\00:18:45.76 Now, now I would say 00:18:45.79\00:18:47.05 and we've brought this up in previous programs 00:18:47.08\00:18:48.89 that when you do look at the Hebrew 00:18:48.92\00:18:51.44 when we use the word the name Yeshua 00:18:51.47\00:18:56.73 and we understand what does Yeshua mean in Hebrew. 00:18:56.76\00:19:00.49 Where does it come from? 00:19:00.52\00:19:01.59 It comes from salvation, the Lord says, right? 00:19:01.62\00:19:03.60 Exactly. And that's Yeshua Y E not Y A. 00:19:03.63\00:19:07.59 A, right. 00:19:07.62\00:19:08.65 But the beautiful thing about that 00:19:08.68\00:19:10.18 is that if we take it just as we've mentioned before 00:19:10.21\00:19:13.14 and you take it into the context 00:19:13.17\00:19:14.61 of the angel speaking to Mary or some people would say, 00:19:14.64\00:19:17.96 no her name was Miriam, okay. 00:19:17.99\00:19:20.38 But again we're getting hung up on things 00:19:20.41\00:19:22.20 that ultimately all it does 00:19:22.23\00:19:23.63 is become a device of tool of the enemy-- 00:19:23.66\00:19:25.72 Distraction. To separate. 00:19:25.75\00:19:27.24 Yeah, it's a beautiful thing 00:19:27.27\00:19:28.47 when you, when you get the picture 00:19:28.50\00:19:30.35 that the angel said to Mary, you shall call his name Yeshua 00:19:30.38\00:19:35.71 because Yeshua saves people, you know. 00:19:35.74\00:19:37.69 And as we've said his very name, 00:19:37.72\00:19:40.16 in his very name is salvation. 00:19:40.19\00:19:42.18 And you know that is so typical, isn't it, Sasha, 00:19:42.21\00:19:45.41 especially of Old Testament biblical characters, 00:19:45.44\00:19:48.29 that their name represented who they were 00:19:48.32\00:19:51.24 or the circumstances that they were born into 00:19:51.27\00:19:53.27 or what they were gonna do, 00:19:53.30\00:19:55.16 how are they gonna be used in multiple ways 00:19:55.19\00:19:57.67 that was a very common thing. 00:19:57.70\00:19:58.90 Oh, absolutely, name is the character, 00:19:58.93\00:20:01.36 that's why even the name Yod, 00:20:01.39\00:20:03.26 Hey, Vav, Hey represent the character, 00:20:03.29\00:20:05.71 you know the consistency, the permanency, 00:20:05.74\00:20:09.74 the ever existence of God that's what's important. 00:20:09.77\00:20:13.23 And that's what people means when they say oh, 00:20:13.26\00:20:16.26 who calls up on the name of the Lord will be saved, 00:20:16.29\00:20:19.00 so you got to know the exact name. 00:20:19.03\00:20:21.00 You know I look at this it's like an idiom, 00:20:21.03\00:20:23.76 you know, like suppose 00:20:23.79\00:20:25.48 somebody is having the flu and gets a running nose. 00:20:25.51\00:20:29.47 A runny nose? 00:20:29.50\00:20:30.53 Running. Where is it running to? 00:20:30.56\00:20:32.46 So the nose jumped off the face and ran away. 00:20:32.49\00:20:35.84 You know you got to have a sense, 00:20:35.87\00:20:37.96 you know you look at this text in Genesis 4 last verse, 00:20:37.99\00:20:42.26 when, at this time of Sab, 00:20:42.29\00:20:44.66 they first called upon the name of the Lord, 00:20:44.69\00:20:47.75 I mean what did they do? 00:20:47.78\00:20:49.12 Just came like a wolves to the moon and started-- 00:20:49.15\00:20:51.77 Hey Lord! What did they call? 00:20:51.80\00:20:55.40 Well, you look at Genesis 13:6 00:20:55.43\00:20:59.44 and that's clear, what it means. 00:20:59.47\00:21:02.25 Abraham comes back to the altar 00:21:02.28\00:21:05.11 and calls upon the name of the-- that's clear by the-- 00:21:05.14\00:21:07.89 But, but what Sasha is saying is that it is an idiom, 00:21:07.92\00:21:12.20 this idea of calling upon the name of the Lord. 00:21:12.23\00:21:14.78 What it really means is. Who do you want to serve? 00:21:14.81\00:21:18.43 Those who choose to serve God, 00:21:18.46\00:21:20.80 those who confess that God is Lord, the Lord of their life. 00:21:20.83\00:21:23.94 In the context of Genesis 00:21:23.97\00:21:26.39 calling upon the name of the Lord 00:21:26.42\00:21:28.29 mean offering the sacrifice to the Lord. 00:21:28.32\00:21:31.31 And sacrifice signifies the sacrifice in Calvary, 00:21:31.34\00:21:35.10 so in fact when Paul speaks about this in the Book of Acts, 00:21:35.13\00:21:40.23 he says anybody, you are gonna be saved 00:21:40.26\00:21:43.95 when you accept the Calvary sacrifice of Jesus. 00:21:43.98\00:21:48.19 That's the calling of the-- 00:21:48.22\00:21:49.91 What if you can't speak or you know, 00:21:49.94\00:21:51.90 if you are deaf or whatever 00:21:51.93\00:21:52.96 you can't actually call on the name of the Lord, 00:21:52.99\00:21:55.18 I mean what matters is, 00:21:55.21\00:21:56.24 is what you want to do with your heart? 00:21:56.27\00:21:58.15 What you want to do with your life? 00:21:58.18\00:21:59.21 Who you want to worship? 00:21:59.24\00:22:00.27 Which by the way is what 00:22:00.30\00:22:01.40 the scripture say that God looks at the heart. 00:22:01.43\00:22:03.19 Right. 00:22:03.22\00:22:04.51 And it's really the intent that we have. 00:22:04.54\00:22:07.87 So you know, Rachel, when we're talking about 00:22:07.90\00:22:10.21 putting this program together as we wrap this up now 00:22:10.24\00:22:13.23 and prepare for song which by the way, 00:22:13.26\00:22:14.96 when you listen to the song, 00:22:14.99\00:22:16.02 you're gonna hear these different names 00:22:16.05\00:22:17.53 that we were talking about. 00:22:17.56\00:22:19.41 Rachel asked the question in our discussion about this. 00:22:19.44\00:22:21.90 She said, you know, what really does it matter? 00:22:21.93\00:22:24.35 And that's such a great statement. 00:22:24.38\00:22:26.52 Because people make majors out of minors 00:22:26.55\00:22:29.26 and keep people away from knowing Jesus 00:22:29.29\00:22:31.85 just because of issues that are really manmade. 00:22:31.88\00:22:35.46 Jesus said that we should call Him Father. 00:22:35.49\00:22:38.10 You know, when you call from your heart 00:22:38.13\00:22:40.53 that's all that matters. 00:22:40.56\00:22:42.17 So Rachel and I are gonna do a song. 00:22:42.20\00:22:44.35 Sasha's gonna tell little bit about that song as we prepare. 00:22:44.38\00:22:48.05 Kadosh Kadosh Adonai Tz'vaot, 00:22:48.08\00:22:50.09 Holy, Holy Lord God Almighty, 00:22:50.12\00:22:52.50 Revelation 4:8. 00:22:52.53\00:22:54.75 (Singing in foreign language) 00:23:08.33\00:23:11.33 Holy, Holy, 00:25:27.53\00:25:34.27 Holy, Holy, 00:25:34.30\00:25:37.85 Holy, Holy, 00:25:40.79\00:25:47.78 Holy 00:25:47.81\00:25:53.43 Is the Lord, 00:25:53.46\00:25:57.12 God of hosts 00:25:57.15\00:26:02.71 Is the Lord, 00:26:07.22\00:26:11.48 God of hosts 00:26:11.51\00:26:16.39 Who was and who is 00:26:21.11\00:26:27.09 and who is to come 00:26:27.12\00:26:34.45 Who was and who is 00:26:34.48\00:26:40.61 and who is to come 00:26:40.64\00:26:48.03 (Singing in foreign language) 00:26:51.00\00:26:54.00 Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord, 00:27:20.44\00:27:22.42 God of hosts. 00:27:22.45\00:27:24.05 You know someday 00:27:24.08\00:27:25.88 the angels in heaven will join in 00:27:25.91\00:27:27.58 with the voices of all the redeemed, 00:27:27.61\00:27:29.93 all those who have called upon the name of the Lord. 00:27:29.96\00:27:33.27 And we will be together in the end, 00:27:33.30\00:27:37.09 voices from every tribe, tongue and nation. 00:27:37.12\00:27:39.60 How amazing that will be. 00:27:39.63\00:27:41.74 So on behalf of myself, Rachel and Sasha, 00:27:41.77\00:27:45.66 please may the Lord bless you and may He keep you 00:27:45.69\00:27:48.03 and may the Lord make His face 00:27:48.06\00:27:49.25 to shine upon you and be gracious to you, 00:27:49.28\00:27:50.83 may the Lord lift His countenance upon you 00:27:50.86\00:27:52.99 and bring you His peace. 00:27:53.02\00:27:55.25 Join us once again on Back to our Roots. 00:27:55.28\00:27:59.59
