to a congregation of
people that were struggling

with many ideas
and many concepts.

And Paul speaks
very succinctly to it.

You know, there
are some who have said,

that God is
finished with the Jews.

And I think that
we're gonna see that Paul,

the Apostle as some
people think to the Gentiles

has some very
strong thoughts about this

as he expresses it
in the Book of Romans.

you think about Paul

and maybe in
particular the Book of Romans

ways Paul gets negative press.

But this is the case
where if we really look at

a whole different picture.

he is putting the

to hear the different opinions

in the controversy
surrounding these texts.

and he asked a very
clear succinct question.

Paul says without mixing words

has God
rejected the Jews, right?

And he comes
back with a statement

that makes it very
clear God forbid, right?

Paul had said rhetorical
question with the answer no.

No. The answer is no.

But then he does something
that I find kind of interesting,

he turns to begin to talk
about Elisha... in this passage.

Yes. Why does he do that?

And why does he immediately draw

from Elisha in
the context of this?

Well, it's
important to understand

what Elisha was going through

when he had this
experience on Mount Carmel.

And this is with the prophets--

Exactly, that's-- you
know, all of this stress he had

when he challenged
400 prophets of Baal.

If their god is right,
if their god could answer

and then he had to ask to
pour water around his altar

after their god fails to answer

and then God sent the
fire and he was so, so happy

that God--that he
fulfilled the mission

he--he hoped that
he convinced all Israel

and Jezebel is-- after
that decided to kill him.

He wasn't afraid of death.

He was so, so
disappointed and distraught

that he ran away he
said, I quit, I can't stand.

That he thought that with the--

this manifestation of
power that God had displayed

that the people would instantly
turn and say, oh, you know.

And so God had--
he went all the way up

to the Mount
Sinai where Moses was.

And God had a talk
with him over there.

And first He said,
Elisha you are wrong.

There are 7000
people in that upper state
00:05:40.35\00:05:45.46
northern kingdom of Israel
that did not worship Baal.
00:05:45.49\00:05:49.44
Right, that still
follow the living God.
00:05:49.47\00:05:51.77
And you now, sorry, Sasha,
but listen, that is even today,

sometimes we feel
like we're all alone,

are we the only
ones that believe

in the God of
Abraham, Isaac and Jacob

that worshiped in the right way

but God there says to Elisha
and I think He says to us,

look, I always have my faithful.

Even if you
don't see them. Right.

Well, what we need to
really look into many people--

why Paul brings it up because
even that early many Gentiles,

many non Jews were
disappointed, they're like,

they go to the synagogue
00:06:30.86\00:06:33.17
and try to talk
to Jews about Jesus
00:06:33.20\00:06:36.97
showing them the Scriptures
and don't get a response.
00:06:37.00\00:06:41.28
So people get
upset and then you say,

Oh, Jews rejected Jesus and
so what we see is similarity,

yes, similar to the fact that

there was a fire
from heaven so convincing,

the miracles Jesus preformed
were extremely convincing
00:06:54.92\00:06:59.56
and not, you know,
there were people--

there were
Pharisees, there were priests
00:07:03.13\00:07:05.03
who rejected
them no matter what.

Lazarus was raised from the dead

and after that priest decided
to kill Jesus as the reaction.

So what can somebody make

as a conclusion all
Jews rejected Jesus.

Brings the idea the same
way as with Elijah not everyone

Israel went after Jezebel.

Judea rejected Jesus.

But we don't even know how,

how many even prior
to the Book of Acts,

how many really
were following Him.

I've heard you
now, and I would expect

that there was tens
of thousands of people

that believed that
Jesus was the promised one.

You look what we
have-- we have a distribution.

And today, even
we're talking about

some places that are easier

receiving the gospel
easier than the other.

In that time in
the land of Israel

Galileans received, were more
receptive than Jerusalem might.

So, Paul sets
this up and presents

this convincing
argument just as Elisha
00:08:33.17\00:08:35.58
look, there's
always been God's faithful.
00:08:35.61\00:08:39.57
Don't think that because
some rejected that all rejected.

But then he changes
in the same chapter 11
00:08:43.83\00:08:48.57
in verse 11,
listen to what he says.
00:08:48.60\00:08:51.58
So I ask you did they--
they being the Jewish people,

did they stumble in
order that they might fall.
00:08:55.18\00:08:58.25
Okay, so he is
saying first of all,

was it just that
they tripped and fell
00:09:00.94\00:09:03.13
just for the sake of
fallen on their face.

Okay, and he comes back
again a rhetorical question,

and he says by no
means rather through their

trespasses salvation
has come to the nations,

to the Gentiles, right?

So as to make Israel jealous.

So I always love this
because Paul is saying,

look, yeah, a
bunch of them fell,

a bunch of them didn't get
it and stumbled, all right.

But was it just for
the sake of stumbling.

No, of course not, because
the fact that they stumbled,

it opened up the
door for the nations,

for the Gentiles to
begin to receive the gospel.

But he doesn't stop
there, does he, Sasha?

He says look, the reason
why the Gentiles have received

the gospel is so that it
will make Israel jealous. Okay.

Well, I said that
they will come back

to their Heavenly Father.
00:09:57.61\00:09:59.11
And that's what happens.

I was jealous when I
saw in the Christians

and-- and that's
what converted my soul

because it made me curious.

Yeah, absolutely for me it
was the same experience seeing--

seeing my stepfather
presenting Christianity in a way

that I had never seen it before

living as a
Godly Christ like man,

provoke me to
jealousy to want to--

Is that awesome.

What is it that he
has? It's holy jealous.

I want to have
the same thing, right?

It was interesting
that I-- in my experience

I was going to the synagogue to,

you know, to Orthodox synagogue.

I wasn't really like keeping

the Sabbath or
something like this.

He was my Christian
friend who was challenging me

on the matter of
salvation that pushed me to take

Sabbath more
seriously than I was doing.

Oh, you know, the irony for me

and I don't want to upset anyone

but look, the truth is that

I became if you
can understand this--

a far better Jew once
I accepted Jesus. Amen.

Because you know, as an
adult even though being Jewish

before I came to Him, my
Judaism was something cultural,

was something that was
relegated back to second class,

had no real meaning but once
I accepted the Jewish Messiah

and started
wanting to live for Him
00:11:23.26\00:11:25.00
and starting to
study wanting to serve Him
00:11:25.03\00:11:28.43
the more I did,
the more my Jewishness
00:11:28.46\00:11:31.36
started to move
forward. Came alive.
00:11:31.39\00:11:32.64
Well, and it's because
to me they were inseparable,
00:11:32.67\00:11:36.91
which by the way is
really the driving force

behind this program? Right.

Is that the roots are
Hebrew, which brings us to

the next important part of
this discussion, "The Root."

Paul presents a
new analogy, right?

He starts talking to
the non-Jewish believers.

And he presents an
interesting analogy to them.

Yeah, he talks about the root.

And we have to even
look a little bit wider

into the whole context, into
the entire context of Romans.

These Romans run several
themes and the theme of Israel,

the theme of Jewish
people does not appear

first in Romans 11
for the first time.

First time, it starts in
Romans Chapter 2 and Chapter 3.

The biggest misconception
that is--that is present today

is the fact that
after Jews rejected "Jesus"

they lost their
status of being chosen.

And when I see, when
I hear these statements

I always ask,
explain to me what is chosen.

And people start giving their
absolutely wrong understandings

thinking that chosen's being
some so kind of a higher race.

Well, this is
absolutely incorrect,

God never had any favoritism

just for somebody's
ethnicity or race or culture.

God have a special purpose when
He raised the people of Israel.

Well, what would you say
to the people who say well,

I don't think the Jews
are chosen more because

if they were chosen
to proclaim the Messiah

rejected the Messiah,

they don't really
have anything to proclaim

and therefore they
shouldn't reach us anymore

the message
which God chosen for.

What would you say to that?

incorrect statement is that

to proclaim something.

preserve the Holy Scripture.

The Scripture
proclaims the Messiah.

And Jewish
prophets and Jewish priests

centuries created, copied

and preserved the Scriptures.

Like the Dead Sea scrolls.

We've gotten so much truth
from the Dead Sea Scrolls today

and that's because
the Jews did their Job.

were discovered in 1947,
1948 that's the same year

Israel was created.

When you talk about Israel,

foundational institution

existed in the 19th century.

So Paul is driving
this right in the beginning

when he ask question,

advantage of being a Jew.

So that's directly when he picks
up the question of the root,

this root is rooted on
the fact that there was--

that God created
a nation of Israel

so that through
them His revelation

would be manifested to
the world and accessible.

Well, which verses would
you use from the Old Testament

to help us to really
embrace the truth of the Jews

being chosen to
preserve the scriptures.

There is one
text which I believe

is fundamental is Exodus 19:5,

when it talks
about the priesthood.

Jews were
selected for priesthood,

the priesthood of the nation.

And the
priesthood had two tasks,

one task is rituals and
sacrifices at the sanctuary

and the second task is
preserving the scripture.

You know, I once heard
and I don't even remember

where I heard this from.

Someone had made and
I may have read this--

the statement that one
of the greatest testimonies

that God exist is the fact that

the Jewish people
still exist. Yeah.

And what he was saying was

is that if you look
back through the history

at least even modern history

there has been numerous,
numerous, numerous attempts

to wipe out the Jewish people.

And it made no sense that
this little tiny group of people

could somehow
though they were dispersed

and scattered and
persecuted and killed

that somehow has been
able to unlike any other

people group
maintain their identity,

but then on top of it to
look at the language. Right.

It's the only language
that at one point was considered

a dead language only
for religious purposes

and then to be revived
as a spoken modern language.

I think that that so
much speaks to God's desire

to preserve for
a specific reason.

And they didn't just survived.
It is a great testimony.

talking about this, the root.

And I love what Paul says here.

he is talking about now the Jews

that have been
broken away, right?

nations, the non Jews were,

were grafted in among the others

and now sharing the
nursing root of the Olive tree,

he says don't be arrogant

And then this is the
statement that I always loved.
