because God speaks to Moses

talking now to the people.

very happy with them

in this passage if you remember.

And He says I quote
"Since it is a thing most holy

and has been
given to you that you

iniquity of the congregation,

to make atonement for them."

And I think when we
talk about Yom Kippur

that's one of the things that
seems to run around in our mind

this idea of atonement and
what really--what does that mean

and what is Moses
trying to say to the people.

important question

we need to really look into

because indeed the English
word atonement or reconciliation

doesn't really
reflect the notion

Kippur which is in the Bible.

we go into the Old Testament

word that atonement

it's the Hebrew word Kippur.

which was a sin
offering it wasn't eaten.

one of a holy convocation

the idea of fasting

about how I remember

my grandfather wouldn't

goats that are taken.

because throughout the Bible

remember that it's both

physical and spiritual. Right.

Because there is
an image we paint it

actual physical transfer.
