You would no doubt
have been tempted to shudder

in absolute fear for your life.

However, those
upon the Titanic had,

well, perhaps more
confidence in this ship
00:01:00.39\00:01:03.73
than they should have.
00:01:03.76\00:01:05.13
In fact, it is
recorded that someone claims

to have heard ship
captain Edward John Smith say,
00:01:07.60\00:01:11.03
"Even God Himself
couldn't sink this ship."

The crew were
perhaps too at ease
00:01:14.44\00:01:16.64
when it came to the protocol
00:01:16.67\00:01:18.21
that possibly could
have saved their lives

and the many, many
lives of their passengers

had they been more vigilant
before meeting this iceberg

that dreadful foggy night.

Some experts now agree that had
they met the iceberg head on,

perhaps the ship
would not have sank,

to reverse and slow the ship

There are many spiritual lessons

Well, again, we're
going to be looking

at the spiritual aspects of it.

So I pray that your
heart and your mind is in tune,

that's written about it.

There's been a lot of
conversations about it,

hours have been spent,

millions and millions of dollars

have been spent in search of

and recouping
some of those things

that happened in
that eventful evening.

Survivor, one of the
survivors wrote a book

and I thought was
very, very interesting.

Got a little bit out of that.

His name is Lawrence Beesley.

In his book, he talked
about the loss of the...

And in that he made
several observations

that I thought that
would be good for us today

as we're going to glean what?

Spiritual lessons out
of maybe some failures

that cost many lives.

He said this in his
book, he concluded, he said,

the fact is, the sense of fear

came to the
passengers very slowly.

A result of the
absence of any signs of danger.

spiritually with me today.

Notice what took place there.

Fear came to
the passengers what?

Very slowly, they
weren't really worried about,

like some time
in the church today,

we're not worried so much
about the coming of Jesus.

We've got it under control,

you know, and we
can take our time

and one of these days
we'll make a decision,

and the idea of
what was happening

and taking place they didn't...

Many of them didn't get
it until it was too late.

There was no signs of danger,

mainly because many people

weren't really talking about it.

And today, we find in the church

are blowing a trumpet.

They're not blowing a trumpet,

they're not
given a certain sound

and so therefore,
many people sleep on.

They think church is
a place to come to rest

and to sleep and it's not.

It was never meant,

and none of us
would have the audacity

as it were to sleep or
whatever was it might be,

no one here is
doing that, I know.

But I'm saying here

we would in the
presence of the Holy Spirit,

in the presence of the Lamb.

You invited the presence here,

you invited that
power here as well as I did.

He goes on his book, he says,

people not really warned?"

He said, "Because
of the improbability

of such a thing ever happening
was what staggered humanity?"

In other words,
if it can't happen,

why worry about it?

See, sometime we say that
in our Christian experience,

it can't happen.

I'll say as nicely,
once saved, always saved.

I was saved long time before,

so it's going to be good enough.

Well, it should be I understand,

but again, many
people rest on that

and they go and
live their own life.

the boat can't sink.

And so why should I
worry about it sinking?

that became kind of,
you know, notorious there

talked about the book.

And really it

that it almost
unsinkable and sometime

we think that in our
Christian experience,

I'm almost, you
know, unsinkable.

When we look in the mirror,

spiritually, I'm
almost unsinkable

when all the Bible says
to take heed, lest you fall.

But really even it
came to the point that,

you know, someone said
they heard the captain say,

and the wife gave
that in the opening,

was very interesting.

Even this
thought came out strong,

cannot sink the ship.

We need to be very careful

challenging God in any area.

And so, he
continued on, he said,

Well, the
sinking of the Titanic,

he said this,
this misbegotten belief

that something so good,

something that so fail proof,

something that's so safe

would not fail.

And it couldn't fail.

Remember, this was
broadcast far and wide

before they ever
began taking passengers on.

The experts said
it could not sink.

The experts,
those who designed it.

Today, a lot of
scientists and a lot of those

who are very
smart in book learning

tell us certain
things that can't take place

and yet the Bible
says it will take place.

And it only taken, I

probably the obvious answer,
