learned what that meant,

story, it's not a made-up story.

The story behind this song,

But the story behind
the song goes like this.

There was a missionary,
a Christian missionary,

who traveled to India.

And this was back, I
think in the late 1800s,

early 1900s,
somewhere around there,
00:03:06.41\00:03:08.32
but he had traveled over
to one of the states of India
00:03:08.35\00:03:12.59
and he was
doing missionary work.
00:03:12.62\00:03:13.96
He was sharing the
gospel and the good news.
00:03:13.99\00:03:15.56
Now, if you know
anything about India,
00:03:15.59\00:03:17.76
even to this day,
00:03:17.79\00:03:19.13
and of course, it
was very bad back then,
00:03:19.16\00:03:20.70
but it's even, I mean,
it's still pretty bad today.

I mean, Christianity is
not really widely accepted
00:03:24.13\00:03:27.00
in the country of India.
00:03:27.04\00:03:28.37
In fact, it's, if you
ever look at one of those maps,

where it says, you know,
where it kind of color codes,
00:03:30.34\00:03:32.37
things of where
Christianity is not accepted,
00:03:32.41\00:03:34.84
the country of India
will be highlighted in red
00:03:34.88\00:03:37.25
as a nation
00:03:37.28\00:03:38.61
where Christianity
is actually banned,
00:03:38.65\00:03:41.18
it's illegal to
share Christianity
00:03:41.22\00:03:43.89
in certain parts of India.
00:03:43.92\00:03:45.52
And so that long story
told short, here it is,

man missionary goes to
India back in the late 1800s
00:03:48.62\00:03:52.29
and he's sharing the
gospel and he ends up
00:03:52.33\00:03:54.03
out in the
middle of some village
00:03:54.06\00:03:55.80
somewhere in the
middle of the woods
00:03:55.83\00:03:57.33
in India.
00:03:57.37\00:03:58.70
And he actually
goes into this village,

a rather large village
00:04:00.50\00:04:01.84
and he finds a family
00:04:01.87\00:04:03.20
that is interested
in hearing the gospel.

And so, this family invites
this missionary gentleman
00:04:05.44\00:04:07.88
into their home and
for weeks at a time,
00:04:07.91\00:04:09.84
this man was
giving them Bible studies
00:04:09.88\00:04:12.05
and sharing the good news
00:04:12.08\00:04:13.42
of the Gospel
of Jesus with them.
00:04:13.45\00:04:14.95
And shortly, you know,
soon, every single day,
00:04:14.98\00:04:17.62
a little bit by little bit,
00:04:17.65\00:04:18.99
these people's
lives begin to change,
00:04:19.02\00:04:20.66
the whole family,
the father of the house,
00:04:20.69\00:04:22.79
the woman, the mother,
and also their children.

They begin to,
00:04:25.29\00:04:26.63
their hearts and
minds begin to be changed
00:04:26.66\00:04:28.00
because they were
learning about who Jesus was,

and now he had died for them.

Now fast forward a little bit,

the missionary ends up leaving
00:04:33.07\00:04:34.64
but by this time news has spread
00:04:34.67\00:04:37.34
that around the village
which is primarily Hinduistic
00:04:37.37\00:04:41.94
that this family has
left the faith of Hinduism
00:04:41.98\00:04:45.41
and they've
converted to Christianity.
00:04:45.45\00:04:48.12
So, they are arrested
and the chief counsel,
00:04:48.15\00:04:53.09
they are presented
before the chief counsel
00:04:53.12\00:04:54.69
in the middle of
their village there
00:04:54.72\00:04:57.26
in the courts of their village,
00:04:57.29\00:04:59.19
and the chief of this village
00:04:59.23\00:05:00.86
basically gave an ultimatum
to this man and his family
00:05:00.90\00:05:03.73
and he spoke directly to the man
00:05:03.77\00:05:05.43
because the man was
the head of the house,
00:05:05.47\00:05:06.80
right?
00:05:06.84\00:05:08.17
If he can convince the father,
00:05:08.20\00:05:09.57
then the mother and
the children will follow,
00:05:09.60\00:05:11.11
right?
00:05:11.14\00:05:12.47
And the story goes like this,

the chief gave
them an ultimatum said,
00:05:13.88\00:05:15.21
"You recant, renounce this faith
00:05:15.24\00:05:17.11
and return to Hinduism
00:05:17.15\00:05:19.21
or you and your
family will lose your life."
00:05:19.25\00:05:23.18
And, of course, the
man couldn't do that,
00:05:23.22\00:05:28.76
because he had already been told
00:05:28.79\00:05:30.43
about how Jesus
had died for him.
00:05:30.46\00:05:32.83
And he himself would have,
00:05:32.86\00:05:34.20
was glad to die for Jesus
and for the faith of Jesus.
00:05:34.23\00:05:38.00
But this chief knew
exactly where to get this man.
00:05:38.03\00:05:40.24
He told him, he gave him
one last warning, he said,
00:05:40.27\00:05:42.00
"Either you recant
and let go of this faith
00:05:42.04\00:05:44.84
and return to the Hinduism
00:05:44.87\00:05:46.98
or, again, I will take out
you and your family one by one."
00:05:47.01\00:05:52.38
Well, this man previously
in days or weeks past,
00:05:52.41\00:05:56.32
had written a poem,
00:05:56.35\00:05:57.69
and while he's
standing there in those courts,
00:06:01.02\00:06:04.16
listening to this
chief and these people,
00:06:04.19\00:06:08.33
you know,
supporting the idea of him
00:06:08.36\00:06:09.93
and his family being murdered.
00:06:09.96\00:06:12.60
This poem came to his mind.

Now later this poem
would be put to music.

And right there
in front of everyone

and in front of this priest

or this chief priest
or chief of the village,

he began to chant these words.

his appeal to the man,

don't have to die.

Just give up this
crazy Christian faith

and you can spare you and
your wife's life at least."

And he looked at
his wife with tears.

And he said...

his wife in front of him.

And so, the chief made
one final appeal, he said,

or you can meet the demise

and your wife have.

And in a strong emotional
state that you could imagine,

he begin to plead out...

The world behind me

positive to the story.

that whole village witnessed

give up their life

for some guy named Jesus,

to know who is this Jesus

are willing to die?

You see, these
brothers and sisters

would never give up their life

for some, you
know, Hinduistic god.

They'd never seen that before.

And in the weeks
and months to pass,

one by one by one,
that's a true story.

people begin to convert

and eventually the
chief of that village

that had this man murdered
gave his heart to Jesus Christ

all because of the blood
that was spilled that day

for the faith in Jesus.

So, what appears
to be a sad story

was ultimately a passionate,

wonderful, powerful gospel story

because sometimes,

lives are lost for
their faith in Jesus.

But as we see,

as history has told
us time and time again,

the more and more you
spill Christian blood,

the more and more and
more Christians there are,

that appear.

Jesus gave His
life for that family

and that man and his
family would give gladly

and as they did give
their life for Him that day,

but because of it,

lives were transformed
by the Gospel of Jesus.

a message to give to the world.

And they are concerned

and rightly so
with what's happening.

answer by the grace of God

diversion from preparation.

The enemy is out to do what?
