The head elder of the church

is also a police
officer on the island.

And one
occasion, he picked us up,

I, in his police car

because we needed
transportation to the airport

to take care of a few matters.

Pastor Kenny sat
in the front seat

with the officer,

which meant I had to
ride in the backseat.

I've never been in
a police car period.

Nevertheless,

the backseat of
a car were someone

who has broken the law
is to be placed generally.

And even though I knew

that I would be
released from the backseat

as soon as we got
to our destination,

it was just such
an ominous feeling

to be confined in a
small area with no handles,

and absolutely no
way of escape on my own.

It was not a
comfortable position to be in,

even for just a short ride.

And in many ways,

our time on this
earth is the very same.

We are here on this earth

short ride as it were,

We cannot escape the fact

that all of us
must stand in judgment

before the courts of heaven

for our sentence to be passed

destination for eternity.

And that, my friends, is
indeed an ominous thought

wakeup call for us all.

We literally have
no way of escaping

with our Creator,

but God has given
us a way of escape

from the sins of our past

if we just accept His gift
and follow in His footsteps.

that's assigned to you,

or they say, they
might come and get you.

So we're going to be learning
about the day God's court

and how God's court is set up,

and that how all of us
are involved with that.

found little something,

thought was very interesting.

Talking about the judgment,
just a couple of words here,

what it says?

It says,
"Sinners will be condemned

in the judgment."

Notice this, because why?
00:08:36.75\00:08:39.18
Because they rejected light.

Did you get that?

Sinners will be what?

Condemned in the judgment
because they rejected light.

And, of course, certain
Jesus is the light of the world,

Turn with me if you
will in the Book of Psalms,

as our first verse,

we're going to
look up Psalms 87:6,

Psalms 87:6.

And listen to
these words carefully,

notice what it says.
00:09:05.57\00:09:07.04
It says, "The Lord shall count,
00:09:07.08\00:09:10.01
when he writeth up the people,
00:09:10.05\00:09:12.88
that this man was born there."

There's some
significance in these verses.

Note this verse.

Notice, the Lord shall
count when he writeth up

or when he records his people

that this man was
born there or he came from.

Isn't it wonderful to know
that God takes in consideration

our backgrounds?

Things that happened
to us where we were born,

all these things, God
takes them into account.

I'm thankful for that.
What does that really mean?

What we just read?

Yeah, God considers what?

Very simply, our background.

Our background needs
to be different, isn't it?

You know, the way we
were born, where we were born,

money, no money
and so on and so forth.

God is going to look
into everybody's background
00:09:52.02\00:09:54.99
as He's making this decision.
00:09:55.02\00:09:57.46
Are we making
decision for heaven?
00:09:57.49\00:09:59.59
And then He deals with us, what?
00:09:59.63\00:10:01.26
Accordingly to that.

Several years ago,
there was this true story,

one of the mayors,
00:10:06.33\00:10:07.67
and I think it
was New York City,
00:10:07.70\00:10:09.10
actually one of our states.
00:10:09.14\00:10:11.34
He served as
judge once in a while.
00:10:11.37\00:10:13.17
He was a mayor,
00:10:13.21\00:10:14.54
but he served as
judge once in a while
00:10:14.58\00:10:16.38
when it was at the police court.
00:10:16.41\00:10:18.45
And it's
interesting that a man come,
00:10:18.48\00:10:19.81
they brought an
older man in one day,
00:10:19.85\00:10:22.08
and they brought him before him
00:10:22.12\00:10:23.89
because he's
stolen a loaf of bread.
00:10:23.92\00:10:27.16
"Why did you steal
this loaf of bread?"
00:10:27.19\00:10:28.92
The whole time we got this man,
we caught him stealing bread.
00:10:28.96\00:10:31.29
We brought him
to this judge here.
00:10:31.33\00:10:34.36
And so he said,
"Well, why is he brought?
00:10:34.40\00:10:36.10
What's happened here?"
00:10:36.13\00:10:37.47
"He stole some bread, you
know where you can't have that?"
00:10:37.50\00:10:39.60
He said, "Well, let's see why.
00:10:39.63\00:10:41.30
Why did he steal this bread?"
00:10:41.34\00:10:43.74
Well, when he's
asked, the man simply said,
00:10:43.77\00:10:45.91
"I stole it because my
family was starving to death.
00:10:45.94\00:10:49.21
We have no money.
00:10:49.24\00:10:50.58
We have no food, and I
know I shouldn't have stolen it,
00:10:50.61\00:10:52.91
but I stole it."
00:10:52.95\00:10:55.32
The mayor was
sitting behind the desk
00:10:55.35\00:10:57.22
to the acting
mayor or the mayor was,
00:10:57.25\00:10:58.82
and he said,
00:10:58.85\00:11:00.26
"I'm going to be
your judge today."
00:11:00.29\00:11:02.12
And he said, "You know what?
00:11:02.16\00:11:03.49
You stole the bread
00:11:03.53\00:11:04.86
and I'm going to
have to punish you."

That's what we
do when you steal,
00:11:06.53\00:11:07.86
you do wrong,
there's a punishment.
00:11:07.90\00:11:10.03
Law makes no exceptions,
regardless of the conditions.

And so "I'm fining you $10."
00:11:14.37\00:11:19.14
Well, the man just
stole a loaf of bread
00:11:19.17\00:11:20.84
'cause he didn't have any money.
00:11:20.88\00:11:22.98
And interesting
when the judge there
00:11:23.01\00:11:25.21
or the mayor of the city said,
00:11:25.25\00:11:26.58
"I fine you $10 for
stealing that loaf of bread."
00:11:26.61\00:11:30.15
And same time the mayor
was reaching in his pocket,
00:11:30.19\00:11:33.15
and he's pulling out a $10 bill.
00:11:33.19\00:11:35.76
And he laid it, and
gave it to the man there
00:11:35.79\00:11:37.56
and they threw it in a little
hat that he had right there.
00:11:37.59\00:11:39.49
And he said, "And
I pay that $10 bill,
00:11:39.53\00:11:42.63
that fine.
00:11:42.66\00:11:44.00
And so, you know,

you don't have to pay anything.

I'm going to take care for you."

And it was kind of
interesting there went on

and then the mayor said this,

"Now what I'm going to do,

I'm going to fine
every person that's here

in this room today 50 cents.

And they're
thinking, "Hey, why am I?

Why should I?
00:12:02.92\00:12:04.25
I've not come to
court for anything?

Why are you
charging me 50 cents for?"

And then he said,
"Well, you know what?

I'm going to charge you
50 cents for living in a town
00:12:09.82\00:12:12.66
where a man has to
steal bread in order to eat."

And so he said,
"Now pass the hat around,
00:12:16.43\00:12:18.83
everybody put
50 cents in there."
00:12:18.87\00:12:20.94
And time they
passed the hat around,
00:12:20.97\00:12:22.34
there was $47

that was collected in this hat.

The judge or the
mayor took the hat,

gave it to the old man and said,

"Here, maybe this will help you
until you find some more work."

Well, you know,

that kind of reminds
you of your Heavenly Father

how He takes care of us
and how wonderful that is.

You know, God then does what?

God considers a
man's background.

He considers
everything about him.

Your day in
court, my day in court,

the day is going to come.

As we study scripture,

we realized it's going
to come that we will appear

as in the heavenly court.

What does that mean to us?

When you think
about, when you go to court

and the decision
has been reached,

it will not be
changed, not in this court.

Once the verdict is passed,

that's going to be it
either innocent or guilty.

That's pretty solemn
when you think about it.

Every person that's ever
lived on the face of the earth

will appear in this judgment.

So it's very, very
important we realize it,

so that some people say,
"I don't want to appear in.

I'm not a Christian.

I don't want to be involved."

Well, that's the way that it is.

That's the way
Jesus has set it up

that every person
will have to stand

as it were before
appear in the judgment.

Now how we know this?

Because the Bible tells
us so in 2 Corinthians 5:10.

The Bible is very plain.

It goes on to say,

"That every one
may receive the things

done in his body,

according to that
which he hath," what?

"Done, whether
it be good or evil."

We're going to
have to give account.

Do you see account?

Everybody's going
to have to give account

of things that's done

whether it be good or evil.

To me, that is such a
solemn, solemn thought,

appearing for the
God of the universe

that knows everything about us.

Everything in our
life is open to Him.

Think about that for a minute.

Our whole life just laid out,

you know, and, you know,

like a television
screen as it were.

And it's playing
your life story on it

than anybody knew,

Every word,

every word, every deed,

every motive of your life

reason, it should be.

That's even in earthly court,

we're supposed to do.

Before we
pronounce someone guilty,

we want to do an
investigative part

to see whether they're guilty
or whether they're innocent

and put it all together.

Every year
though God goes so deep

that He judges the motives

and He can do that of the heart.

You know, God's
made it very clear,

Acts 17:31 about the judgment.

You say, well, I don't know
that there's going to be one.

God says there in Acts 17:31.

He makes it very clear.

He says, "He
hath..." You know this well.

"He hath appointed," what?

"A day, in which He
will judge the world."

People say, "Well, there's
not going to be any judgment."
