we're born basically to die.

always going to be lost.

We're always dealing with
some kind of hurtful situation.

But as we see the closing scenes

of this world
history come about,

we're seeing more
and more disasters,
00:01:20.44\00:01:22.61
we're seeing terrorists common

and lives being
taken as never before,

and there's more and more people

that are having to
deal with this issue,

the issue of living with loss.

And it can be a
very painful one.

So we want to go
with Pastor Kenny

Bible has to say,

and what the Lord
has laid upon his heart.

the one thing that
first came across my mind

come across your mind also

is in the Book of Job.

Job suffered what? Loss.
00:04:26.33\00:04:29.16
And a lot of loss.
00:04:29.20\00:04:30.53
And so if we just
look at it quickly today

and not spend a
lot of time on it.

But I'm going to
read several verses

I think it's imperative.

Since our subject
is living with loss,

let's look and approach
it the way that Job did.

You know,
there's a lot of message

that have been
spoken on this subject.

But let's just notice,
Job Chapter 1, Job Chapter 1,

I'm going to start
reading with verse 13.

And a lot of
verses we could read
00:04:54.19\00:04:55.56
but we're going to
do with 13 and onward
00:04:55.59\00:04:57.79
because this shows
what happened to Job

in just evidently
a matter of moments.

Sometime we have
one little thing,
00:05:04.87\00:05:06.80
we hit our thumb with
a hammer or stump our toe
00:05:06.84\00:05:09.97
and we're ready to give up,
00:05:10.01\00:05:12.41
you know, throw our religion out
00:05:12.44\00:05:13.98
and just go our different ways.
00:05:14.01\00:05:15.74
But look what
this man went through
00:05:15.78\00:05:17.58
and let's examine
00:05:17.61\00:05:19.15
and we pray
that it will help us.
00:05:19.18\00:05:20.98
So in Job Chapter 1
beginning with verse 13.
00:05:21.02\00:05:25.25
Here's what the
Bible says, the Bible says,
00:05:25.29\00:05:26.99
"And there was a day
00:05:27.02\00:05:28.79
when his sons and his daughters
00:05:28.82\00:05:30.36
were eating and
drinking and wine
00:05:30.39\00:05:33.46
in their eldest
brother's house."
00:05:33.50\00:05:36.36
I might just
mention here quickly,
00:05:36.40\00:05:38.23
I think maybe his
sons and daughters
00:05:38.27\00:05:39.97
did this quite often.
00:05:40.00\00:05:41.67
I'm just going to
throw that out to you,

you can throw it
back if you want to.

Because later on we
won't have chance to read it.

But Job as he knew that
they were eating and drinking,

and nothing wrong with
just eating and drinking,

but maybe a little
celebrating going on,
00:05:52.41\00:05:54.05
maybe a little too much.
00:05:54.08\00:05:55.88
But what happened was Job
was making sacrifices for them.
00:05:55.92\00:06:00.42
He said, just in
case they sinned,
00:06:00.46\00:06:03.09
there was
something that was going on.
00:06:03.12\00:06:04.89
And so he was
making some sacrifices
00:06:04.93\00:06:06.73
and asking God to forgive them
00:06:06.76\00:06:08.46
and to get them
on the right path.
00:06:08.50\00:06:10.40
So there they were
eating and drinking
00:06:10.43\00:06:12.30
in their eldest son's home.
00:06:12.33\00:06:13.67
Now notice what happened,

"Then there came a
messenger unto Job."
00:06:15.57\00:06:19.27
And notice, this messenger,
00:06:19.31\00:06:20.64
"He said, 'The
oxen were plowing,
00:06:20.68\00:06:23.38
and they asses
feeding beside them.'"
00:06:23.41\00:06:26.01
So you had some
oxen very valuable,
00:06:26.05\00:06:30.19
you had some like donkeys then
00:06:30.22\00:06:32.85
and there was
500, he had 500 oxen,
00:06:32.89\00:06:37.66
he had 500 donkeys.
00:06:37.69\00:06:40.60
And notice what this man said,

"They were feeding
and all of a sudden,
00:06:42.36\00:06:43.87
verse 15," and
the Sabeans or the..."

These here could be
descendants of Kush.
00:06:47.37\00:06:50.94
These could have
been descendants,
00:06:50.97\00:06:52.31
a tribe they came down on them.
00:06:52.34\00:06:54.74
Notice what happened,

"Fell on them,
and took them away,
00:06:56.14\00:06:57.95
yea, they have
slain the servants
00:06:57.98\00:06:59.98
with the edge of the sword,

and I only am
escaped alone to tell thee."

Do we believe that the
enemy was the one behind this?

Absolutely, but notice

even the enemy
left one person alive

so that he could
tell the bad news,
00:07:16.56\00:07:18.70
he wanted to go into
detail of what happened,

he wanted to know
00:07:21.04\00:07:22.37
because not only was Job
wealthy in material things,
00:07:22.40\00:07:24.91
but also in servants or
people who worked with him,
00:07:24.94\00:07:27.61
his household was huge.
00:07:27.64\00:07:29.64
One of the richest man
00:07:29.68\00:07:31.01
as it were at
that point in time.
00:07:31.05\00:07:32.55
And so the enemy let one live
00:07:32.58\00:07:35.45
so he could run
back and tell Job,
00:07:35.48\00:07:37.35
he said, "Man, you
just lost 500 oxen.
00:07:37.39\00:07:40.26
You just lost 500 donkeys.
00:07:40.29\00:07:42.12
And all of the
servants who were out there,
00:07:42.16\00:07:44.16
your workers, maybe
part of your household.
00:07:44.19\00:07:46.80
They're all gone,
I'm the only one left."
00:07:46.83\00:07:51.03
Well, that would startle
some of us here, want to say,

quick with our calculator.

Whoo, my that's so much
ahead of all this right here.

But all of a
sudden he didn't have time

to even do that.

He didn't have time for
even soak into his brain

because you'll
notice what happened.

Verse 16, "While
he was yet," what?

"While he was yet
speaking there came another,

and said, The fire of
God is fallen from," where?

"From heaven, hath
burned up the sheep,

and the servants,

consumed them, and I
only am escaped to tell thee."

Once again a disaster and what?

Only one left, the
enemy lead off of him

so he could go back
and try to crush Job.

Remember, the sheep
now, there was 7,000 sheep

that were
destroyed just like that
00:08:38.45\00:08:40.85
and it doesn't say
how many human beings
00:08:40.88\00:08:43.92
and so one right on
top of the other, verse 17.
00:08:43.95\00:08:47.56
And notice, "While
this man was still speaking
00:08:47.59\00:08:50.89
there came," what?"
00:08:50.93\00:08:53.03
There came another, and
said, "The Chaldeans made out,
00:08:53.06\00:08:57.80
notice it says, three bands,
and fell upon the camels,"
00:08:57.83\00:09:01.90
which were 3,000 camels, notice,
00:09:01.94\00:09:05.41
"and have carried
them away, yea, and slain,"
00:09:05.44\00:09:07.48
here again what, the
servants, everybody was there,
00:09:07.51\00:09:11.18
"with the edge of the sword,
and I'm the only one he said
00:09:11.21\00:09:13.62
that has come along
to tell you escaped."

Now notice in verse 18,
"While he was yet speaking..."

Now that seemed to
be enough, doesn't it?

Right then and
there way too much.

Now he said, "While
he was yet speaking,

there came also
another one, and said, oh, oh,

notice how it progressively
it seemed to get worse.

It said, "Thy
son, and thy daughters
00:09:32.57\00:09:34.77
were eating and drinking."

And remember, he had what?

He had seven sons
and three daughters,

ten children.

And so the enemy wasn't happy

with just taking the
animals and the servants,

he went right as close
as he could get to Job.

And there's a
reason we'll look at that

he didn't get to Job.

But notice, the Bible said,

"Thy sons and daughters
were eating and drinking wine
00:09:56.26\00:09:58.09
in thy elders brother's house.
00:09:58.13\00:09:59.53
And, behold,
there came a great wind
00:09:59.56\00:10:01.33
from the wilderness,
00:10:01.36\00:10:03.10
and smote the four
corners of the house,
00:10:03.13\00:10:06.10
and it fell upon the
young men, and they are dead,
00:10:06.13\00:10:09.77
and I am escaped
alone to tell thee."

Four calamities right
on the neck of the other
00:10:13.78\00:10:16.88
before you could
get the words out

something else happened to Job.

And then the bottom
line or the straw would be,

you've lost seven
sons, and three daughters,

ten children at the same moment,

plus your everything
00:10:30.93\00:10:32.39
you've worked for all your life.

Everything was gone, the
bank account was drained.

We're talking about
here living with loss.

This man had some severe loss.
00:10:39.00\00:10:41.67
But notice, notice
what the Bible said there
00:10:41.70\00:10:44.21
in verse 20.
00:10:44.24\00:10:46.41
Soon as Job heard this,
00:10:46.44\00:10:47.94
I guess he rolled over and said,
00:10:47.98\00:10:49.31
"I've had enough,
I'm going to curse God."
00:10:49.34\00:10:51.21
No, look what the Bible said.
00:10:51.25\00:10:53.38
"Then Job arose,
and he rent his mantle,
00:10:53.42\00:10:56.48
he shaved his head,
fell down on the ground."
00:10:56.52\00:10:59.45
And what did do?
00:10:59.49\00:11:00.89
The Bible says, "He worshiped,
00:11:00.92\00:11:04.13
'And said, Naked came I
out of my mother's womb,
00:11:04.16\00:11:07.23
and naked shall
I return thither:
00:11:07.26\00:11:09.66
And the Lord gave, and
the Lord hath taken away,
00:11:09.70\00:11:12.50
blessed be the
name of the Lord."

Talking about learning
to live or living with loss.
00:11:15.04\00:11:19.41
He said, "I
came in with nothing,
00:11:19.44\00:11:21.04
and I'm going to
go out with nothing.
00:11:21.08\00:11:22.84
And I say that
to each one of you.
00:11:22.88\00:11:24.58
Everyone that's in hearing
or viewing is you may come in,

you come in the world, right?
00:11:27.35\00:11:28.68
You come in naked, you
don't have anything really,

you may work all your
life, you've accumulated a lot,
00:11:30.65\00:11:33.02
but when you leave,

you're going to
leave with nothing.

You're not going
to have anything,

you can't take it with you,

all you take with you is
certainly is your character.

And man what a
character we see here,

a character that was
been developed over the years

of his relationship with God.

Notice that and he said,

"In all this Job sinned," what?

Nor charged God foolishly."

Think about it.

He just didn't get
carried away and said,

"Well, this is the
way God's going to do me,

then I'm just not
going to have anything

to do with Him."

He didn't do that at all.

I came in with nothing,

I'm going to go
out with nothing.

And blessed be the name of God.

Very interesting words

that which he
had to offer there.

Now notice, you say,
okay, there was a loss,

oh, indescribable,

most of us couldn't describe it.

We would have a
very difficult time,

God forbid, to be one child

and with our
grandma, or a mother,

or dad whatever it might
be, our wife, our companion,

it seems to too
big a burden to bear.

But here all of this
at once, turn with me,

Job just to Chapter 6

just quickly four
verses I want you to look on.

Tell me here as we read
it that Job was not hurting.

Tell me he was not experiencing
this thing called loss.

Notice, Job 6:1 reading on.

He said, "Oh that my
grief were thoroughly weighed."

He's wanting can you weigh...
00:13:00.41\00:13:03.01
Think about it,
can you weigh it?

Can it be weighed out?
00:13:04.58\00:13:06.41
I don't know.

Notice, "Thoroughly weighed,

and my calamity laid
in the balances thereof.

For now..."

just weigh out my grief?"

scale and I try to weigh,

you know, how heavy would it be?

How could he go through this?

He said, "It's heavier
than the sand of the sea."

More than he could
almost possibly take

The Book of Ecclesiastes 3:6,

there's always wisdom

as we look in the
Book of Ecclesiastes.

And it simply
says here that a...

"It's a time to get..."

That means
there's a time to gather

and there is a time to lose.

Simply put the
beginning of that verse.

There's a time
that we get in life.

There's a time
that we gather in life,

but there also comes a
time in life that we lose.
