during his rejection of Christ
at the time of Christ's trial

and persecution as we

Interestingly and sad,
Peter was the very first person

to boast just a very short time
00:01:18.55\00:01:20.92
before Christ's
trial was to begin that he,

Peter himself
would never deny Christ

even if it meant his own death.

And it is this
aspect of the story in which

with the Savior that night

did deny having known Christ

any penalty to pay,

most people say, well,
yeah I know who Jesus is.

But you think,
Peter was under stress.

And when he was asked,
do you really know this man,

you know who, you
know this Jesus, right,

or hadn't you been
hanging out with him?

Jesus was, you
know, Jesus was there

and going through quite
a conflict at this time,

Peter knew that he
was and was afraid may be

he might have to go
through this situation.

So what prompted Peter to
say "I do not know the man."

And once again, is it possible
that we can be saying that

in different aspects of our life

while professing
to be a Christian.

This is vital,
this is so important.

Our passage in Mark
14, verses 29 and 30.

Let's just read this once again.

this out pretty clear,

Verse 29 of Mark
Chapter 14, it said,

"But Peter said unto him,
though all should be offended,

Everybody else
that might be offended,

everybody are
going to get all upset,

everybody else is going
to turn on you but not me.

And then verse 30 says,
But Jesus said unto him,

always answered that person

with something that may be

needed to be squared away.

Quickly Jesus said unto

before the cock crows twice,
thou shalt deny me thrice."

Three times you're
going to deny me and very,

very interesting here
and a point that probably

you don't hear
brought out too often

but you are

It was Peter that seemed
that Jesus was talking to

and trying to tell him
what was going on here,

but notice when
Jesus said this to Peter.

In verse 31, it said
"Likewise also said they all."

Why is it then this account,
account of Peter denying Jesus

He is the main
character, but why is it that

Peter is the one
that's centered on here.

Oh that's an
interesting thought,

because the Bible
says in verse 31 last line,

"Likewise also said they all."

Every one of them
said the same thing.

They amened Peter,
but not too much is said

about those but boy,
Peter is really put upon it,

what, why him?
Why was Peter the one?

Well, after all, remember,
he was the main focus here,

all the disciples
said the very same thing.

But was there
something in Peter's life

that may be needed a
little more attention.

In your life as a Christian,
may be there is something

that you need a little
bit more attention on that,

may be you hadn't
really thought of before.

Here is the
question, why was Peter,

again why he the
main focus point here,

was there a
lesson that he needed?

Well, you remember
as you read scripture

and some of the
things that happened before,

Jesus had talked to Peter.

He came to him with compassion
and he came to him with love

and he was always
warning the rambunctious Peter,

always trying to
get his attention.

But remember, when
Jesus began to talk to Peter

about certain things
and especially at this time,

Peter rejected
what Jesus had to say.

Friend, you know
there is a price to pay,
00:12:55.20\00:12:58.48
if you reject
what Jesus tells you.

And here was a price to pay.

Peter was going
to have to pay it.

Jesus warned him,
Peter said to himself

and then he let everybody
else know I know myself.

Jesus may be saying
this, but He is the master

and I followed him
but he doesn't may be,

he doesn't really know
me the way I know myself.

That sound like you
sometimes, sound like me,

oh they don't know
me like I know myself.

See, in this case,
here was the problem

that needed to be

this was the last supper
they were eating together.

Jesus was soon to go
away but here was Peter,

Let's look at it closely.
Peter was self confident.

Do you know anyone
that is self confident,

self just fits into
everything and they just,

everything they do
is just right and well,

they just feel good about
themselves and they didn't,

they don't need anybody else.

They just stand
by themselves and,

you know, but listen,

self confident was
a proved Peter's ruin.

What if there
been no repentance?

Remember, he denied Jesus.

Friend, heaven can't be
our home if we deny Jesus.

your Christian experience,

That's never
going to happen to me.

Others say, well, I
know what's on my heart,

you don't know my
heart, but I know my heart,

do in any given situation.

well do you know yourself?

You know, Bible is really
clear as we begin to study it

encouragement first

saying, well I know my heart

and I know myself pretty well.

here is what Jesus

says, son, I like that.

See the first thing
that Jesus asked for,

I know my
heart, I know who I am.

First thing Jesus said
is, son, give me your heart,

what did Jesus
know about the heart?

What did He know about the mind?

What does He know
about man that may be man

doesn't know about himself,
evidently He knew something.

Son, give me your heart,

Here we have the
mind and we have the heart

meaning, mind and the heart.

and the will and the intellect

You need to be careful

and really who can know it?

Well, what chance do we have?

news for the Christian.
