to properly deal with a
ugly word that we call sin.

You know no one likes
to admit they're a sinner,

yet in the blessed word of God,

in Romans 3 and
verse 23 we read,
00:01:17.38\00:01:20.87
"All have sinned, and come
short of the glory of God."
00:01:20.88\00:01:24.70
Now how terribly sad it would be
00:01:24.71\00:01:27.65
if our study abruptly stopped,
00:01:27.66\00:01:30.17
just ended right at this verse?
00:01:30.18\00:01:32.33
Having the knowledge that
sin separates us from God,

that the penalty of
sin is eternal death.

That it was because of
sin the Christ was mocked,

rejected, beaten, and crucified.

Then this verse alone
would leave us feeling hopeless.

So let's continue
reading on in Romans 3

and look at verses
24 and 25, we read here.

"Because justified
freely by his grace through

the redemption
that is in Christ Jesus,

what idol we are holding on

tolerated among God's people,

Seven, one sinner,
now pay special attention,

one sinner can
shutout the presence of God

or the light of God
from the entire congregation.

that, why come to church

be searched out and put away.

because it's withholding
God's blessing from us.

Have you ever wonder why,
why we're not seeing things

happen in the church as we did

in the New Testament
Church, we read the Book of Acts

and we get so excited that
we just can hardly stand it

and look what God is doing.

Listen, we serve
the same God today.
00:10:51.82\00:10:54.15
God can work those miracles,
00:10:54.16\00:10:55.50
but He needs people that
He can work them through.

And if we are, not
only sin in our life,

but the sin in
others we tolerate it

because we don't have
the spiritual backbone

to do something about it.

God is gonna
withhold those blessings

Now can you,

enough on your shoulders,

enough in your own life going on

need somebody else's.

course of transgression,"

here's it, "should be visited?"

should be labored with,

rules and regulations,

So we're to labor
with them, pray with them,

work with them, encourage them,

the High Priest Eli.

Well, Eli, he wouldn't
deal with sin in his sons.

Notice this parents
this is very, very important.

Eli refused to deal with sins,
00:16:39.18\00:16:41.78
he passed them over in
his sons as a light thing.
00:16:41.79\00:16:46.73
He tried to correct, he talk
to them a little bit about it,
00:16:46.74\00:16:49.46
but he passed it
on as a light thing.
00:16:49.47\00:16:52.43
This was a
neglect of the father,
00:16:52.44\00:16:54.76
not only a
priest but the father,
00:16:54.77\00:16:57.31
to reprove and to
restrain the wrongs of his son.

Notice the two things

what the father's
responsibility in the home,

is to reprove and
to, notice this work.

And some of you won't
like this, to restrain.

The way that God
says we're to do it.

So Eli did not
restrain his sons,

Eli then called the
sins they were involved in.

You read the story
of Eli and his sons,

it was no light thing
what these guys were doing

in the name of Jesus.

But he wouldn't, he
wouldn't reprove them,

he didn't restrain
them, you know what this did?

This brought disaster
upon all of Israel. Why?

Because of Eli,
because he didn't correct it,

because of what his
sons were participating.
00:17:52.09\00:17:54.65
Notice with me, Eli,
00:17:54.66\00:17:59.93
his sons were
killed, Eli lost his life.
00:17:59.94\00:18:05.57
This is because of sin.

The Ark was taken,
listen carefully 30,000 people

lost their lives.
00:18:13.22\00:18:16.17
And friend, this wasn't the end.

The
daughter-in-law who was pregnant
00:18:19.15\00:18:21.93
with child when she
heard of all the news
00:18:21.94\00:18:24.47
and all went on,
her husband was killed,
00:18:24.48\00:18:28.05
father-in-law was
killed, the Ark was taken.
00:18:28.06\00:18:31.58
All these people killed.
00:18:31.59\00:18:33.41
And she went into labor
00:18:33.42\00:18:36.58
and while she was
in labor, she died.
00:18:36.59\00:18:40.18
You remember
being the Bible passage

when we tolerate
something that comes against us,

and what we have and/or
00:18:45.55\00:18:47.20
maybe our
companion and our children.

And she died and the
son lived and the name given

the son was what?

Was Ichabod, why the
name Ichabod to the son?

Because he said the glory
of the Lord has departed. Why?
