and do something supernatural

a very strange kind of praise,

because there are some of us

Third thing this
teaches us tonight, Prince,

is that at some point,

his word is going
to have to be enough.

At some point, his word is

So the man hears that

Jesus has come back
to the Galilee side.

Now, I'm not sure if He knows
exactly Jesus exact location

or coordinates,
but more than likely

what the man has had to do is
he has had to walk through town

and eavesdrop on
every conversation

to find out where
Jesus might wind up being.

And so, friends, I can see
this thing with a desperation.

His palms are sweaty, man.

His sand, those
straps are broken.

There is an anxiety in his voice

as he looks for
the location of Jesus.

And so he finds a
small crowd by the market,

and he looks to
see if Jesus is there.

But this just folk
having their daily gossip.

He hears a shout

over in the tavern and he
goes to see if that's Jesus.

But they're just rejoicing

because the
Lakers made the playoffs.

But then he
hears a buzz in the air

and he begins to
hear south of acclamation.

And he finds himself
at the feet of Jesus.

Well, he makes a
request for Jesus to come

and lay hands on his child.

Now, understand, church, notice

that there is a
quirkiness and Jesus response.

Have you ever noticed that

Jesus does not respond with
this overwhelming compassion?

He does not respond
in this affable way.

In fact, the energy of
Jesus is kind of strange.

I can see him take an exhale
that suggests frustration.

Maybe Jesus in this
moment rolls his eyes.

In fact, man, this man's
faith is about to collapse

because Jesus does not
answer in the affirmative.

Jesus, man in frustration,
says, Man, you folks

won't believe
00:04:52.15\00:04:54.99
unless you see
signs and wonders.

Now understand what
is going on in the book.

Desire of Ages.

Alawites says that Jesus reads
the table of the man's heart.

The problem with the man
is he had created a scenario

that he would not believe
unless Jesus came to his house.

In other words, at
this point in the scenario,

he has not literally believe
he is still in the trial period.

Unless Jesus comes,
he's not going to believe.

He wants the Messiah to audition

for his faith.

And Jesus is saying, No,

I ain't got to prove that
I'm God, I'm already gone.

You got to come with faith.

Y'all hearing the

But then there's a larger
issue at play, because it is not

just a an acute rejection, a
rebuke of the individual man.

He is the eye responding to
the unbelief of the community.

Now, in order to
get these friends,

you got to read the
entirety of John Chapter four.

Remember that Jesus
ministers to a Samaritan woman

who had a bunch of husbands
and was now shacking up.

And the Bible says that
after he ministered to her,

that based upon the word
that she took her water pot
00:06:20.88\00:06:24.68
and began telling
everybody about a man
00:06:25.61\00:06:27.92
that told her everything
that she had ever done.
00:06:27.95\00:06:31.09
And the Bible says
that many Samaritans

came to here based
upon the woman's testimony.

But then they get to
sit at the feet of Jesus

and hear the
word, preach the word.

And the Bible says

that they begin to
believe based upon the word

that was spoken.

Now, friends,
you've got to juxtapose

what is happening with
the outsiders, the Samaritans,
00:06:54.68\00:06:57.45
those who do not know God.

Those who are not
people of covenant.

They believe based on
the word but the covenant.
00:07:02.75\00:07:05.62
People don't believe
until they say something.

And it's crazy
because it shows the danger

of getting too religious.
00:07:13.70\00:07:18.63
Because one of the things

I notice in the body of Christ
is that if you grow religious

but not spiritual,
your faith won't age well.

Because the truth
is that many of us
00:07:29.11\00:07:31.11
do not have a
faith that is aging well.
00:07:32.05\00:07:34.05
The longer we are in the
way, our faith is actually
00:07:35.18\00:07:37.49
being diluted.
00:07:37.52\00:07:38.59
In fact, the problem
with our church is that we are
00:07:38.62\00:07:41.42
doctrinally stopped, but
our faith is daily diluted.
00:07:41.46\00:07:45.63
And the truth is that

the longer we are in the
way, we become more rational,
00:07:47.36\00:07:50.67
more realistic, less
believing, less hopeful,
00:07:51.63\00:07:54.57
less trust, and less less brain
in our religious experience.

But how many of us
understand that your greatest

season of faith it should
not be when you first believe
00:08:03.35\00:08:07.35
it should not be ten
years ago, but your faith ought
00:08:08.42\00:08:11.42
to be peaking in the
season you are in right now.
00:08:11.45\00:08:15.56
Chances are you'll
hear what I'm saying today.
00:08:16.52\00:08:18.26
Church.
00:08:18.29\00:08:18.73
And it's funny because this man
00:08:19.69\00:08:22.43
is there at a
disappointing space
00:08:23.16\00:08:24.87
and it's funny because,
man, the rebuke initially goes
00:08:26.03\00:08:28.70
completely over his head
because he turns right around
00:08:28.74\00:08:32.71
and says, Jesus,
I need you to come
00:08:33.54\00:08:35.84
to my house.
00:08:36.24\00:08:41.18
And Jesus, understanding
his blindness, looks at him
00:08:41.22\00:08:45.95
with conviction,
gives him an assurance.
00:08:46.82\00:08:49.72
That is carried by the
stream of the Holy Ghost.

So that it can illuminate
the darkness of his heart.

And he just tells
the man, Go your way.

Your son is healed.

He let them know it's already

done.

Now, Church, I need you to know

that this
miracle is more necessary

for us than most
of them, because this

man's miracle
actually represents

our experience
with Jesus Christ.

See, we like the healing
of Jairus because we can see

Jesus go with him to the
house and speak the work.

We like the woman
with the issue of blood

because we can see her
touching him physically
00:09:37.67\00:09:40.34
and feeling in herself
that she is made whole.

We like the story of
Lazarus because he goes directly
00:09:44.28\00:09:47.25
to the home of Lazarus and
everybody is able to witness it.

We like those miracles.

You hardly hear
this one preached on
00:09:53.19\00:09:55.36
because there is no
visual of things getting better.

But understand that

this man represents
our experience in Christ.

Because when he
makes this request like us,

there's not an
immediate reply like us.

He Jesus doesn't
come to his house like us.

He is not able to see
the miracle happen like us.

All he has to go on is
the Word of Jesus Christ

and say, The reason I
need somebody to get this

is that at some
point we're going

to have to get to a
place where the word alone is

enough for us.

That's why,
friends, the Bible says faith

come by hearing and
hearing by the Word of God.

There are somebody
who is saying, Pastor,

I would believe

if I was able to see Jesus
the same way they saw Jesus.

No, the devil is alive

because the Bible says in
the beginning, what's the words?

And the word was with
God and the word was God.

And the word simply
became flesh and dwelt among us.

So that if you don't
believe what's in the word

you wouldn't believe,
if you got to see the word.

And that's what friends of mine,
we got to recognize that God

and the flower is going fade.

But the Word of the Lord
is going to endure forever.

about the power of the word?

Psalm 138 and verse two.

I need you to
see some real quick,

some 138 and verse
two, I want you to see this
00:11:23.65\00:11:25.45
in the scripture tonight,
00:11:25.48\00:11:26.88
Psalms 138 and verse number two,
I need you to get to the place
00:11:26.92\00:11:30.45
where your faith is
based upon the word Psalms.
00:11:31.52\00:11:34.46
138 and verse number two.
00:11:34.49\00:11:37.03
When you get to
them who say that
00:11:37.06\00:11:39.16
no notice what the Psalms say.
00:11:39.19\00:11:40.63
He says, I will
worship toward your holy temple

and praise your name for
your loving kindness and truth,
00:11:44.97\00:11:48.54
for you have magnified your word
00:11:49.24\00:11:51.77
even above your own name.

Okay, God help us all to go.

Did you catch that church?

He says he's magnify the
word even above his own name.

And so if you think
there is power in his name,

if you think demons

I need you to know there's
even more power in his word.

His word is what anchors us.

You will stop believing
based upon what you see.

And notice that the man believes
simply based upon the word,

his countenance changes
just because of the word

that his heart is
full, because of the word

he is able to relax
because of the word.

And I'm looking for
a church of believers

that knows that we've got to
learn to get settled in the word

well, we learn to
find solace in the word.

What we learn to know.

Deliverance is in his word

teaches us really quick

you're going to have to

prioritize God's plan

to see this thing in your head

because this man,

man, he has done everything
in his power to get to the feet

In other words,

that even through faith,

he has painted a
picture in his mind

of how this thing
is going to go down.

He can actually see man Jesus
consenting to come to his house

and how Jesus is going to
lay hands on his sick child.

And because he's seen
it in his head happening

a certain way, he can't unsee
what he's seen in his head.

But how many of us know

that sometimes God doesn't do it

the same way you
saw it happening?

In other words,
there is a moment

where He is wanting

Jesus to come in person, because
if Jesus comes in person,

that gives him certainty.

If Jesus comes in
person, it gives him security.

If Jesus comes in
person, that is His evidence.

And in addition to that,
if Jesus comes in person,

it elevates his social
standing and other words.

There is a certain way

he wants God to do
it, but God doesn't do it

the same way He planned it.

Now, why is that critical?

Because remember,

they're over in Galilee,
but the man lives all the way

in Capernaum.

Now, scholars say
that a normal time

takes them about a
day to get back home.

But if he rushes, he can
get back home that same night.

Maybe in about 10 to 12 hours.

But understand
that if he does it

the way he wants it to be
done, the boy's got to suffer

for another half a day or a
day before Jesus gets there.

If He does it his way,
the son is in pain longer.

His wife, the son is
hurting longer his way.

There is grief longer his way.

The son actually
dies, but God does in a way

that he could not see,
that he could not understand.

But God's way is
better than the man's way.

In other words, his way actually
delays his son's release.

And what I'm
saying to somebody tonight

is that sometimes you got
to trust God with your request.

That's why I'm thankful for
Romans eight that says, man,

we don't even know what
to pray for like we should.

But the spirit intercedes for
us with groaning is in moaning,

which cannot be uttered

because sometimes we
don't even know what we need.

In my last year in high school,

you know, my
last Christmas before

I went off to
college, I remember, you know,

I had asked my
parents, asked what we wanted,

and I asked, you
know, since back in the day,

I think I wanted
00:16:19.91\00:16:20.98
the newest thing at the
time was the Sega Genesis,
00:16:21.01\00:16:23.58
and maybe it wasn't the Genesis,

but I wanted a
video game for Christmas.

But you know, my
parents got me church,
00:16:27.35\00:16:29.72
they got me a
big, thick winter coat
00:16:29.75\00:16:32.29
and I live baby in Florida.
00:16:33.32\00:16:38.43
Now I want you to
know that I am big man

cause all my friends
are getting a new Sega
00:16:42.23\00:16:44.40
and all I got was a
thick coat that I could hardly
00:16:45.50\00:16:48.70
wear four or five days
of winter in North Florida.

Now, the reason I
didn't really appreciate

it is because at the time

I was planning to just
go to school there in town

in Tallahassee,
but I didn't realize

God was going to steer me here
to Huntsville for four years,

where you actually have
real winter for four years.
00:17:06.45\00:17:09.26
And on top of that,

I didn't realize I was going
00:17:10.66\00:17:12.03
to wind up in grad school
and Barry in Springs, Michigan

and other words, that

video game will have been
done after about two years.

But that coach lasted me
for the next seven years.

And so what I wanted
was not what I needed.

And when I got to Michigan,
I didn't have to buy a coat.

It was already done cause
it had been provided for me.
