Let me just say this,

because when we talk about the
salvation of our young people,

how many of us understand

that the way you keep
young people in church,

it is not by having elaborate
forms of entertainment,

like the way you keep
young people in church.

It's not just
through indoctrination.
00:01:00.06\00:01:01.96
It is not just
through entertainment.

It is teaching them to serve
in the House of the Living God.

And if studies show that
those that served as youth

tend to be anchored as adults
because there is something

about taking
ownership when you you're young,
00:01:18.64\00:01:21.64
when service gets in your DNA,

it helps propel you
into your adult life.

And we need more folks that
want ownership of the mission

and not the position.

You see, we got a lot of
folks that want the position,

but we're not
loyal to the mission.

But we need a church
where everybody goes to work.

And so today, friends.

The third thing that this
story teaches us is that God

is able to fix the
parts that have never worked.

So God says this thing
is getting good to me every.

Listen, I need somebody to
know that your God is so great

that he can fix the
parts that have never worked.

In other words,

I need somebody to know
that your prenatal condition

doesn't have to be
your permanent condition.

In fact, the scriptures
say, friends, that this man

has been crippled since
the time of his mother's womb.

In other words, there
are parts of his muscular
00:02:26.94\00:02:31.08
skeletal system that
have never been ambulatory.
00:02:31.11\00:02:35.75
They have never moved.
00:02:35.78\00:02:38.59
It has been impotent
from the time he was born.

Now, friends of mine,
I need you to get that.

This is a different challenge
to the faith experience,

because, see, it's one
thing to have something
00:02:53.13\00:02:55.50
that was working
and malfunctions,
00:02:55.54\00:02:58.34
because at least you
have a point of reference
00:02:59.37\00:03:01.11
to know that if it
did once ago, long ago,
00:03:02.01\00:03:04.75
that maybe it will again.
00:03:05.38\00:03:07.18
But it's a whole
nother experience
00:03:07.22\00:03:09.68
when you've got parts
that have never worked.

And the reason I want to say
this quickly is because there is
00:03:15.49\00:03:18.86
somebody that is wrestling
with the idea of a leap year.
00:03:18.89\00:03:23.43
There is somebody that to
you it feels like preacher hype
00:03:24.67\00:03:28.44
and church mantra because you're
dealing with some situations
00:03:28.47\00:03:33.71
that have never worked.
00:03:34.28\00:03:36.11
In other words, it
has been impotent or dead
00:03:37.11\00:03:40.02
from the start and
see it would be one thing
00:03:40.05\00:03:43.59
if there were scenarios
that started well and went bad,
00:03:44.72\00:03:47.66
so that at least
you would have a point
00:03:47.69\00:03:49.86
of reference in your mind.
00:03:49.89\00:03:51.53
But there are some that
are on the verge of depression
00:03:51.56\00:03:55.40
because you've got
00:03:55.90\00:03:56.87
some parts of your
life that have never worked.
00:03:56.90\00:04:00.34
In other words, there is
somebody listening today.

And for you, marriage
did not go off the rails

at year three, but it
was toxic in your courtship
00:04:08.24\00:04:12.51
and it went off the
rails the day at the altar
00:04:13.55\00:04:16.25
and for some
marriage did stop working.
00:04:17.19\00:04:19.49
For some marriage never worked.
00:04:20.19\00:04:22.16
For some, it's not
like the job went bad

after a year or two, but
the rumors and the slanders
00:04:27.13\00:04:30.50
and the persecution
started from the day you began

your employment.
00:04:34.24\00:04:35.40
The situation never worked.

There is somebody today.
00:04:38.37\00:04:40.01
It's not as if you
miscarried and lost the baby.

The problem with your
home is that you can't even get

pregnant.

The life on conception
process hasn't taken place.

It's never worked.

And it's hard for some to admit

that maybe you've been in
the church your whole life

and you've been
around all religious things,

and it feels like
prayer has never worked

for some church has
never worked for some.

It feels like
faith has never worked.

But I am here to announce today

that this story was
bound to end Scripture,

to let somebody know
that we serve the God

that is able to fix things,
that have always been broken

and needs somebody to
know that even if your marriage

never works, give it to
God and let Him turn it around.

Maybe prayer feels
like it's never worked.

Give it to God and
let him turn it around.

For some, the
job has never worked.

Go in with a different spirit

I remember

friends of mine
when I was pastor, my

first church in in
West Point, Mississippi.

And I remember at
the end of the year,

our church board did a little,
little, little Secret Santa
00:06:10.90\00:06:14.64
kind of gift
giveaway kind of thing.
00:06:14.67\00:06:16.34
And I remember
I, I got the card.
00:06:16.37\00:06:18.77
One of the, the
mothers of the church.

And as I remember, I
went to the Burlington
00:06:21.31\00:06:23.98
Coat Factory in our town.
00:06:24.61\00:06:25.85
We didn't have a
whole lot of places to shop.
00:06:25.88\00:06:28.02
And I don't mean to
shade any particular store,

but sometimes places
like Burlington and Ross,

you got to be careful.

We're getting
electronic gadgets, our jewelry,

because sometimes they
have a very short lifespan

when you buy them
from these types of stores.

And and so I remember I decided
I was going to get the sister

a watch.
00:06:48.77\00:06:49.37
It was a brand name watch.
00:06:49.40\00:06:51.11
And I was excited because
it had a good price on it.
00:06:51.14\00:06:54.11
And so I got it about a
week before the occasion
00:06:55.18\00:06:57.18
and I wrapped the
gift and I gave it to her
00:06:57.21\00:07:00.12
at the board meeting
00:07:00.15\00:07:01.32
and and I remember
calling the check on and I said,
00:07:01.35\00:07:03.99
Well, sis, how are
you enjoying the watch?
00:07:04.89\00:07:05.99
And her response was
kind of tepid and indifferent.
00:07:06.02\00:07:09.39
And I said, Is everything okay?
00:07:09.42\00:07:11.39
And she says,
Pastor, I loved the watch.
00:07:11.43\00:07:13.63
But she says,
When I spend the watch,
00:07:14.50\00:07:16.46
this brand new
watch was not working.
00:07:17.43\00:07:20.80
And so I need you to know that
I'm as embarrassed as I can be.

And so I let her know
that I'm going out of town
00:07:26.44\00:07:27.88
for about a week.
00:07:27.91\00:07:28.98
But when I get back, I'm
going to have the receipt.

I'm going to take it back
and get you some new shoes.

Trying to be nice to say
pass the. Don't worry about it.

But I said as soon
as I get back to town,

I'm going to take care of it.

And true to my word, as
soon as I got back to town,

I called her and
said, Do you have the watch?

I want to take it
back to the store.

She says, Pastor,
there is no need to do that.

The watch is working just fine.
00:07:53.03\00:07:54.94
And so I said, How is
it all of a sudden working?

Did you take it to
a watch repair shop?
00:07:59.07\00:08:01.18
She says, No.
00:08:01.61\00:08:02.84
What I did, she said, I called
the one 800 number in the box.
00:08:02.88\00:08:07.88
And what she said was,
I called the manufacturer
00:08:07.92\00:08:11.35
and told her
00:08:11.75\00:08:12.85
I had a brand new watch,
but the watch had never worked.
00:08:12.89\00:08:17.23
And what they mailed me
was a letter of petition
00:08:17.26\00:08:21.90
and they said, fill
out the petition form
00:08:22.83\00:08:25.43
and send the watch
back to the manufacturer.
00:08:26.43\00:08:29.07
But they said, don't send it
without the letter of petition.
00:08:30.27\00:08:33.88
And so she sent it
00:08:34.38\00:08:35.38
to the manufacturer
with a letter of petition.
00:08:35.41\00:08:39.25
And I don't know if
they fixed the old one or
00:08:40.25\00:08:42.25
if they gave her a
brand new one, but guess what?
00:08:42.28\00:08:45.45
The watch was fixed
when she gave it back
00:08:45.49\00:08:48.59
to the manufacturer
with the letter of petition.
00:08:48.62\00:08:52.23
Oh God, I feel my help
coming on when you got something
00:08:53.33\00:08:57.33
that never works, I need
you to go to the manufacturer
00:08:57.37\00:09:02.27
and go with the
petition on your lips
00:09:03.07\00:09:05.57
and go to the
manufacturer of the marriage
00:09:06.54\00:09:09.21
and say, God, you
gave me the marriage.
00:09:10.15\00:09:12.15
And so I'm here
with the petition

and I need you to
fix what never worked.

Say, God, you gave me the job

and I'm here with the petition

and I need you to
fix what never works.

You're saying, God,
you gave me the ministry.

You assigned me to the task.

So I'm giving it back to
you, and I'm making my petition

because I serve the God
that can fix what never works.

I need somebody to
give your church back

to the manufacturer and
make a petition and say,

God, I need you to revive it.

Because this church seems like
it's not working as it should.

You are here in the
word today, friends.

So I need you to
know we serve the God

that can fix things
that have never, ever worked.

Then I want to
say here real quick,

and this thing got
good to me as I dug into it.

You see, the next thing
this story teaches us is that

delay
00:10:17.71\00:10:19.21
is not denial.
00:10:19.65\00:10:24.22
I'm praying that
somebody gets this tonight.

Listen, I need
somebody to recognize that delay

is not necessarily denial.

Now, I didn't
really always get this

until I found out

how the man wound up
00:10:39.57\00:10:41.67
at the gate of the temple
begging for money every day.

In other words, this
was not his life habit.

This was not his life's goal.

He is not a beggar by trade,
00:10:54.62\00:10:57.22
but he is there
because of disappointment.

He has failed to recognize
that delay doesn't mean denial.

unfortunate man had long desire

to see Jesus that
he might be healed,

but he was almost
helpless and was far removed

from the scene of the
great physicians labor.

His pleadings at last induce

some friends to bear him
to the gate of the temple.

But upon arriving there,

he found that the
one upon whom his hopes

had been cemented
had been put to death.

His disappointment

excited the sympathy of

He had eagerly hoped
to be healed by Jesus.

brought him to the temple

and ordered that the passers by

might be induced by pity

to give him a trifle

to relieve his wants.

I'm not sure if
we caught that today.

In other words, the
reason the man wound up at

the temple is you
realize that Jesus would do

most of his miracles on
the Sabbath day at the temple.

And so while Jesus was living,
he got word that there was
00:12:36.55\00:12:40.39
a man named Jesus
that healed blind eyes,
00:12:41.36\00:12:45.69
that gave hearing to
deaf ears, that gave lepers
00:12:46.70\00:12:50.63
their life again, that gave
the cripple the ability to walk
00:12:50.67\00:12:55.30
and understand.
00:12:55.74\00:12:56.81
The problem is that the
brother could never get there
00:12:56.84\00:12:59.41
in person to where Jesus
was doing these great works.

So he finally appealed
00:13:03.85\00:13:04.75
to some of his boys
to get him to the temple
00:13:04.78\00:13:08.35
so that he could
meet the man Jesus.

But by the time he got there,

Jesus was crucified

and had already been
raised and went back to glory

and understand that the man
thought that it was too late.

The man just be ex because
he assumes there ain't no help.

In other words, he thinks
that because his timing was bad

that the cry of his
heart had been denied.

But guess what?

Before, even though
he couldn't see Jesus,

Jesus knew His need.

Jesus knew His heart's desire.

And even though
Jesus went back to glory,

God sent Peter and John

to do what Jesus would have done

if He had still
been there on Earth.

And see friends of
mine, I need you to understand

that the apostles
went forth in Jesus name.

In fact, Jesus told the
Apostles great and works.
00:14:15.28\00:14:19.52
Then these shall you
do in my name and see.

This man thought
he had been denied
00:14:25.73\00:14:29.06
when the truth is, it
had just been delayed.
00:14:30.07\00:14:32.70
And why am I saying this today?
00:14:33.40\00:14:35.34
Because I have somebody today
that has been waiting for a year
00:14:35.37\00:14:38.07
for a long time.
00:14:38.11\00:14:39.51
There's somebody
that's reached a certain age
00:14:39.54\00:14:41.98
and you feel like it's
over and it's too late.
00:14:43.01\00:14:45.21
There is somebody that's
been praying about some things
00:14:46.38\00:14:48.38
and it feels like
00:14:48.88\00:14:50.05
it's never going to come to pass
and it feels like it's over.
00:14:50.09\00:14:54.26
There are some of us that
have suffered certain defeats,
00:14:55.46\00:14:57.13
whether it is
spiritually or relationally,
00:14:58.09\00:14:59.63
and for you it just
feels like it is over.
00:15:00.66\00:15:03.06
But the healing of this man
teaches us something powerful,
00:15:04.30\00:15:07.20
that it's not over
00:15:07.70\00:15:10.64
until God says that it's over.
00:15:11.67\00:15:14.94
You see? You see.

That's why Jesus,
the apostles in his name.

Because Jesus is teaching us

the principle of
the earthquake. Hmm.

You see, how many of
us know that when there is
00:15:28.62\00:15:32.29
an earthquake, it causes
things to shake violently.
00:15:32.33\00:15:37.33
But even after the
earthquake finishes,
00:15:38.27\00:15:41.00
you've got to still be
careful, because sometime
00:15:42.00\00:15:44.81
after the earthquake, you
have what they call aftershocks
00:15:44.84\00:15:48.78
that still shake
things into being and see
00:15:49.68\00:15:52.68
somebody misstepped
00:15:52.71\00:15:54.08
because the man
thought it was over
00:15:54.12\00:15:56.22
when he heard that Jesus died.
00:15:56.92\00:15:58.55
But Matthew 27, 51, says
that when he gave up the ghost
00:15:59.72\00:16:03.69
that the temple
veil was torn in half,
00:16:04.59\00:16:06.76
and that the
earth began to shake.
00:16:07.50\00:16:09.63
That the day that Jesus died.
00:16:10.33\00:16:12.23
That there was an
earthquake when he died
00:16:13.17\00:16:14.97
and there was another
earthquake and the resurrection.
00:16:16.07\00:16:18.44
But guess what?
00:16:18.87\00:16:19.91
Even though Jesus died
and the Earth shook, that
00:16:19.94\00:16:23.35
didn't mean it was over,
because he sent the apostles
00:16:23.38\00:16:27.32
in his name.
00:16:27.35\00:16:28.55
And the apostles
will be the aftershocks
00:16:28.58\00:16:31.85
so that even though he
didn't get the earthquake,
00:16:32.95\00:16:35.39
he was healed in the aftershock
00:16:36.09\00:16:38.33
when Peter and James
walked into the temple that day.
00:16:39.39\00:16:43.43
Oh, you're all here
in this thing today.
00:16:44.37\00:16:45.00
Listen, friends of
mine listening say this way.
00:16:46.10\00:16:48.10
I remember this week,
00:16:48.14\00:16:49.44
I sadly, there was a terrible
earthquake in the area of Tibet,
00:16:49.47\00:16:54.11
a seven point
something on the Richter scale,
00:16:54.14\00:16:57.25
and they sold this
very interesting video
00:16:58.18\00:16:59.78
of an area where a
fruit tree had been taken.
00:17:00.88\00:17:03.72
And because it was shaken,
it threw a bunch of fruit down
00:17:04.92\00:17:07.82
to the ground.
00:17:08.26\00:17:09.36
And so once the earthquake
was over, a bunch of dogs
00:17:09.39\00:17:12.29
had come to eat the fruit
that had fallen to the ground.
00:17:12.33\00:17:16.30
And after a
while, a small dog came
00:17:17.13\00:17:19.73
and he wanted to
get in on the fun.
00:17:20.60\00:17:22.40
But these dogs who had
been there earlier had eaten up
00:17:23.57\00:17:26.51
all the fruit that
was there on the ground.
00:17:26.54\00:17:29.28
And after they ate the
fruit that was on the ground,
00:17:30.41\00:17:32.35
guess what? All
the big dogs went away.
00:17:33.28\00:17:34.88
And guess what?
00:17:35.32\00:17:35.82
That little baby dog
00:17:35.85\00:17:37.05
was just stuck there
standing up at the tree.

In other words, he
thought he got there too late.

He thought there
was nothing left over.
00:17:44.43\00:17:47.23
But then a few minutes
later, the camera caught
00:17:47.23\00:17:50.30
and aftershock hit
the area and the fruit
00:17:51.23\00:17:54.37
that was left on the tree
got knocked down to the ground.
00:17:54.40\00:17:58.57
And that dog that
thought there was nothing
00:17:59.54\00:18:01.51
had four or five
pieces by himself
00:18:02.34\00:18:04.45
because he was
fed by the aftershock.
00:18:05.31\00:18:07.55
Let me just say to
somebody who feels like
00:18:08.45\00:18:11.22
it's over, he
feels like it's all gone.
00:18:11.25\00:18:14.59
Just sit still a little longer.
00:18:15.29\00:18:17.16
Sometimes God has an aftershock

where he's gonna
supply all of your needs.

And see, I love this story

because it shows
us something powerful.

You see, I love when
it comes up on this joint.

He sees Peter and John and
Peter and John say, Yo, bro,

look at us.

And the Bible says he
looked at them expecting
00:18:37.41\00:18:41.42
to receive something from them.
