It is actually a recognition
of the authority he has.

See, I need somebody to
understand that the power

is not in elected officials.

The power is with the
people that elect them.

In other words, I
need you to be clear

that elected officials never
do the right thing in a vacuum.

It is because the
people require them to operate

with principle.

In fact, I love
what Dr. King said.

It was never voluntarily given.

It was because people

brought that into being?

leaders were able to maximize

a particular moment
where America was giving

the message of
democracy around the world.

But they realized that
they had to voluntarily

take a beating on
the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

And once the cameras sent
that message across the world,

it was outside leaders
that same the leaders at home

to say, you can't
promote freedom over here

if you're not giving it
to your very own citizens.

And understand that when they
change the view of the majority.

Six months later, the
Voter Rights Act came in 1964.

And what I'm saying to somebody
today is that the leaders

will never do the
right thing on their own.

We've got to raise our voices.

engage in the journey.

This is not a time to give up.

is that we use moments

bury our heads in the sand.

But God is looking for a people
that will stand and be true

to duty, as the
needle is to a pole

and not hide
when things get hard.

But stand up and
speak when things get hard.

Second reason that we
cannot put trust in leaders.

Church is that leaders
will outright lie to the people.

Just go back a few chapters.

And I want you to see
this in verse number nine.

When you get
there, you say, man,

some 62 in verse nine.

And again, let me be clear that
this principle is not partizan.

It is not based on race.

It is not based upon gender.

It is simply an indictment
of the nature of mankind.

So I'm 62 in verse nine, when
you get rid of me, you say, Man,

listen, the Bible says,
surely men of low degree

are a white vapor.

Men of hide, degree
or position are a what?

There are a lot.

And if they are
weighed on scales,

they are altogether
lighter than a vapor.

Does all that church now
know if we caught the principle

that the patriarch
just espouse to us?

And essentially it is the danger

of putting your hopes
in the words of mankind.

He says, If you take
the word of a common man

or a man of low
degree, his word in what ways?

As much as a vapor.

And he says the word of a
man in high position is a lot.

And he's saying if you
take the word of a common man

and a powerful man
and wave them together,

the Bible says they both
weigh less than a breath of air

and see what it talks about.

Friends, is the danger

of putting our trust
in the words that people

give to us and the
promises that leaders give.

In other words, friends,
they are not to be trusted

in their entirety.

They are to be received

with a grain of salt
and not trusted as binding.

In other words, when
they make certain promises

to make your life better

and to improve
your state of being,

you've got to
apply hope loosely.

Because the Bible says that
men of high degree are a lie.

the pastor today?

And the formula for
disappointment of people of

every sort is to believe
everything that people tell you.

How many of us know you can't
put trust in what people say?

If you want to be

disappointed romantically,
listen to everything

a man or woman say
is out of their mouth.

If you want to be disappointed
spiritually, believe everything

someone in a church
services in a microphone.

If you want to be
disappointed politically,

then believe everything on
every promise that a candidate

may espouse.

And what I'm
saying to the church today

is that you
cannot allow your hope

to be attached to
the promises of man.

You've got to allow your hope

to be attached to the
promises of the living.

God are with me today.

In other words, friends, this is
how you avoid, disappoint men.

You don't apply
hope to man's promises.

You simply affirm good behavior.

But I apply hope
to the promise of God

because I know that God is
going to act on what He says

and see.

The problem is that we invoke
the formula backwards, late,

where we trust
entirely what people say,

and we need God to stand
up and prove what He says.

But how many of us know friends

that the promises of
God and him they are? Yes.

And in him they are a man.

In other words,

I'm not going to put my
trust in a political party.

I'm not going to put my
trust in a political candidate.

On Christ the
solid rock I stand.

All of the ground is
sinking, saying I dare not trust

the sweetest faith but
holy lean on Jesus name

and friends.

If I'm going to trust anybody,
I'm going to trust the one

that the Bible
says he cannot lie.

Oh, God,

no, no, no, no. You.

I didn't get that.

The word doesn't
say he doesn't lie.

The words says, your God is
so awesome that he cannot lie.

In other words, friends,
the Bible is not just teaching

that God is an
honest kind of God.

He's not just truthful.

God is truth.

And because He is

both truth and divine mind.

The Bible makes it clear
he cannot lie because he is a

hybrid of divinity and truth,

so that even if God tried
to lie because He's divine,

whatever God lied
about would become the truth
00:09:04.51\00:09:07.71
simply because the
mouth of the Lord spoke.

And that's why
Isaiah says that His Word

cannot return to him void.

But in the law,

accomplish what he pleases

and prospers and the
things that he sends it to do.

And so I need somebody to
know that if you can trust

something, you
need to trust God.

Third reason.

Friends of mine you can't trust
leaders is how are you going

to be dependent on somebody
else who's also dependent?

Okay,

so notice what

the word says you say is putting
all your trust in princes

or in the son of man
in whom there is no help.

Did your catch that the Bible
says in him there is no help?

And then the Bible talks
about the frailty of mankind.

Time for the Bible
00:10:05.60\00:10:06.57
says on the day that he
dies, his spirit departs
00:10:06.60\00:10:10.57
and he goes back to the
earth from which he came.
00:10:10.61\00:10:13.78
You see, the reason
certain leaders are going to lie
00:10:14.84\00:10:17.05
is not necessarily an
intentional lie, but simply
00:10:18.11\00:10:21.32
because they are
finite human beings.

In other words, people
of every sort do not have
00:10:25.15\00:10:28.89
the divinity or the power
or the agency within ourselves
00:10:28.92\00:10:34.46
to even act on our most
noble and hopeful intentions.

We can't even guarantee
00:10:40.57\00:10:42.00
the words that come
out of our own mouth.

The reason I can't keep
every promise I make to you

is that I can't even
guarantee my own tomorrow.

I can't keep my word to you

because I can't even guarantee
if I will make it to the end

of the day. You are
with me today, Church.

And so that's
what the Bible says.

But not your trust in princes

or in the son of man
in whom there is no help

in the outcome of church.

The Bible says in
them there is no help.

Why am I saying that?

Because there are
times where we get frustrated

with government, our leaders,

because you think
they refuse to help.

But the Bible is saying that

in them there is no help.

And see what the
Bible is addressing

is misplaced loyalty or trust.

See, there are some of us that
are frustrated with government.

We're frustrated with friends.
00:11:44.70\00:11:46.13
We are frustrated with our job
00:11:46.17\00:11:48.17
because you think that
these folk refuse to help.
00:11:49.24\00:11:51.87
But the Bible is making it
clear that there is only one

source of help, and it
is the Lord Jesus Christ.

You've got to stop
looking to your cousins.

Stop looking to friends.
00:12:03.55\00:12:04.89
Stop looking to the White House.
00:12:04.92\00:12:06.65
Stop looking to the church.

And learn how to look
till the heals from whence

cometh your help and realize
that your help comes from God.

know that you got to get this

because you're trying to get

something from people
that can't give it to you.

have flawed expectations.

the capacity to give.

It's funny, this happens to me.

There are some

who get frustrated with me

because sometimes they
will ask me to do things

that is beyond my
competency to be able to do.

So sometimes

when I'm in the hospital,

sometimes people will
ask me for medical advice.

They'll say, Pastor,
do you think I should

have this
surgery or that surgery?

Or sometimes an
end of life scenario?

Some will ask me for legal
advice, and they will ask me

to help them legally

assign assets from one
family member to the next.

And they get mad when I
refer them to somebody else.

I let them know that

if you need spiritual
guidance or theological guidance

or leadership or marriage,
I might be able to help you.

But when I meet medical advice,

get help from those

laughed is simply because to do

that is beyond the
capability of any human being.

And this is why you've got to
be careful how you apply trust

and where you assign hope,
because we're looking for help

from people that need help.

We are dependent upon people
that are dependent upon God.

We're looking for answers
from people that need answers.

We're looking for provision
from folks that need provision.

We're looking to
be sustained by people

that themselves are
being sustained by God.

And instead of
looking to somebody

to sustain us when
they are sustained by God.

Maybe I just look to
God to sustain and undergird

who are listening to this

Well, Pastor, doesn't
God bless us by using people.

Yes. God uses
people to bless us.

In fact, God
won't just use people

God is so good
that the Bible says

But this is

uses people to bless you.

You say thanks to the person,
but you give the glory to God

because it was God
that put you on their minds.

compassion in their hearts.

never confused the sender

and she lived with her daughter.

what she would do is
see what DoorDash lots

to her older
mother each and every day.

And so some days she would

DoorDash,
Cheesecake Factory, other days

she would DoorDash KFC.

Other day she would
DoorDash Olive Garden.

And I remember
talking to the senior member

and she said
something I always laugh at.

She says, Pass
the you got to try

this restaurant called DoorDash.
00:16:22.24\00:16:24.21
And I was like, What?

What restaurant called DoorDash?

She says, Yeah,
pass it. They're good.

They make everything.
00:16:30.99\00:16:32.39
They make KFC,

they make Italian food,
they make cheese cake factory.

They're able to make
stuff from Chick-Fil-A.

And because she
got a little messed up,

she thought that

because DoorDash same
tip that DoorDash made it.

what I'm saying today.

And what I'm saying is
never confuse the sender

but God sends it through them.
