You see, the issue is in Jesus.

They saw a way of escape.

But in us they see
their own reflection.

In other words, the
reason they loved him

was because they saw in his life
a way out of what they're in.

But in some of us,

they simply see every reflection
of where they already are.

And so let me just say
this, Beloved, because sometimes

in the contemporary church,

they see a mirror of their
own fall in this and hypocrisy.

You see,

I need somebody
to know, number one,

that you will never
be able to win the world

while you're
reflecting the world.

Because see there, these are

movements of the
contemporary church

to try to make the
church as secular as we can

in the name of being
relevant to the unchurched.

But I need you to know
that the world will never be won

by a veggie version of itself.

And let me just say, number
two, that if you are joyless

as a believer,

you discredit the very claims
and the power of the Gospel.

In other words, if they
ain't got no joy in the world

and you ain't got
no joy in the church,

we all know that today.

Why would I leave World
Sorrows to be church pillar

for all that today?

In other words,
I need you to know

that there ought to
be more joy in the church

than in any club, any
casino, any strip joint.

There ought to be more
rejoicing among God's people.

Then there are the
people of this world.

ascribe to the theory of Christ.

divorce rate in the church

of the same cancers that

How are they going to

world they gossip outright.

they don't see an escape route.

They see a mirror

This is what I
need you to understand.

That brokenness
identifies with brokenness,

but brokenness is
always drawn to wholeness.

I need somebody
to know that weakness

is going to always
be drawn to strength.

That void or emptiness is going
to always be drawn to fullness.

I need you to know that bondage
is going to always be drawn

to freedom.

But the question is,
are when they are around

us, are they drawn to
something in us that's different

than what's in them?

And see, some of us
have limited our witness

to things that can
only be seen with the eyes.

But see,

people are not just studying
what can be seen with the eyes.

So they notice that you
don't work on the Sabbath,

but they also notice
that on Monday morning

you come with

the same bad attitude that
everybody else on the job has,

that they notice that
you don't wear ornamentation,

but they also
notice that you are missing

the ornament of joy,
humility, and the Holy Ghost.

They notice what you
don't put in your mouth,

but they also notice what
comes spewing out of your mouth.

And I need you to know
that sometimes we do ourselves

a disservice because all we
have is the scripted witness.

We have the theory of
Christ, but we're not displaying

the experience of Jesus Christ.

you to understand,

beloved, that people

will never be one to
the truth by information.

They're going to
be one to the truth

by an experience that is
so real and transformative

that they say, I need to get
what is operating inside of you.

I hear in the
pastor today church this

I remember probably
about eight or nine years ago.

We were looking for a car

at that particular time

and we're looking for an
SUV of a particular sort.
00:05:09.10\00:05:11.34
And I remember we went
to one particular car lot
00:05:12.41\00:05:13.68
and there was very a
very, very astute salesman.
00:05:13.71\00:05:16.64
He knew all the details
and the facts about the car.
00:05:17.78\00:05:19.91
He was able to
read almost from memory
00:05:20.82\00:05:22.52
all of the specs on the car
00:05:23.18\00:05:24.42
about its gas economy
and about its fuel mileage

and the size of the tire
and the size of the engine.

And guess what?

He gave me all the
facts about the car

and a very
scripted yet accurate way.

And so as I continued my
search, I began to meet another

salesman who began to
canvass on the same type of car.

He didn't just
talk in a detailed way.

He began to talk in
an experiential way.

He began to say, You
can get three car seats
00:05:51.85\00:05:53.35
on the second row of that car.

He began to talk about exactly

how you open and
close the moonroof.

He began to talk
about the different
00:05:59.25\00:06:01.02
things and places
you could go in the SUV.

And I began to ask,

How do you know
that you're going to get
00:06:05.43\00:06:07.10
three car seats in the car?
00:06:07.13\00:06:08.80
How do you know it can handle
a certain type of terrain?

And he says, Listen, Mr.
00:06:12.53\00:06:13.57
Snell, I'm not just
telling you was on the seat.

He pointed over to the side
00:06:16.81\00:06:18.21
and said, I drive
one of these myself.

In other words, one
00:06:21.48\00:06:22.91
just had the script, the
other had the experience.

And what I'm saying is that some
only have the script of Jesus,

but do I have seven
folks who have the experience

of Jesus?

Where are you not
just telling folks

what you heard
somebody else say?

You're not just telling
folks what you read in a book.

But your witness is
a first hand account

of what

God has done and
operated in your life.

I hear me today, friends.

Second thing that this
story teaches us, Beloved,

is that a good
shepherd always keeps
00:06:58.18\00:07:00.95
count.

The Good Shepherd notices what
is happening with the sheep.
00:07:04.82\00:07:07.89
And it's funny because
Jesus asks the question,

Which of you
having nine 100 sheep?
00:07:10.26\00:07:13.03
If he had one
that was two straight,
00:07:13.06\00:07:15.16
would leave the
99 behind and go in
00:07:16.03\00:07:18.70
search of the one
until it was found.
00:07:18.73\00:07:21.67
But understand that
Jesus uses that number 100
00:07:22.64\00:07:25.37
with a theological and
economical intentionality.
00:07:26.44\00:07:29.58
Because essentially what
the Bible is saying is that

if a shepherd had 100 sheep,
00:07:32.58\00:07:35.88
he was a person of
some type of means.

In other words, if a shepherd
00:07:40.59\00:07:42.42
that are poorer
or lower in shepherd
00:07:42.46\00:07:44.79
would only have somewhere
between one and ten sheep

that maybe the average flock
would be somewhere between 20
00:07:49.56\00:07:53.07
and 25 sheep.
00:07:53.50\00:07:54.70
If you are doing pretty good,
you would have around 50 sheep,

but if you had a hundred,
you were in a completely

different tax bracket.

So that to lose one out
of five, it was going to

hurt the shepherd,
to lose one out of 20.

You are going to feel
a financial pinch to lose

one out of 50.
00:08:15.36\00:08:17.06
It affected your bottom line.

But if you had a
100 seat to lose one,

it meant it was
something you could survive.

So that the good shepherd
that goes after the one loss

out of 100 is not
function out of need.

He's functioning
out of concern and love

you out against that today.

In other words, the good shape

the shepherd that represents
Jesus don't go after the loss

because it hurts his
satirical logical bank account.

He goes simply
because he is in love

that is left behind.

But there is an even
greater and powerful truth

that I'm want to push into
your life for just a moment.

Because in order to
know that you've lost one

out of a hundred,

it means
somewhere along the line

the shepherd has
to be keeping count.

It means the good shepherd is
not just eyeballing the flock.

It means that he is
detailing the flock.

It means that he
is noticing the flock.

It means that within the course
of a given day, as they march

over and around mountains
or through desert terrain

or even if they settle
on a grassy table land,

it means that
several times a day

the Good
Shepherd is keeping count.

And Dr.

meaning everything
that happens with the flock

so that the Good
Shepherd is able to notice.

Even if one of the sheep
has sprained our broken alarm.

The Good Shepherd is able to
notice that even if one sheep

is infected by tick or
flea, the good shepherd notices

when one is infested

and is dealing with
some type of malady. Why?

Because the Good Shepherd pays

attention to the
details of the flock

and see friends.
This is a greater

and more powerful
truth than we recognize.

Because if a good shepherd heard

is counting

what is going
on with dumb sheep,

what do you think the
Good Shepherd is doing

as it relates to keeping count

detail of your life?

I need somebody to be aware
that the same way an earthly

shepherd is documenting
the affairs of the sheep.

that your father in heaven

of every matter
that touches your life.

In other words, I need
to say to somebody today

because you are encountering

circumstances
that seem to suggest

that God has left you

The promise of

promise of God's presence.

How many of us know
that the presence of God

is not a feeling?

It's a guarantee.

I need you to know

make my bed in hell, he's there.

If I climb the stairs

that God says that even when one

your life that he gave his own.

So he's keeping count of
how much you owe your creditors.

you couldn't pay attention,

Somehow somebody's
cash strapped right on time.

And the reason that
came when it did was

because somebody
was keeping count.

Oh, y'all have been brand new.

Anybody ever been at the
end of one job or contract?

And when you got down to
the last week, guess what?

Another job. Our
contract showed up.

And the reason that happened

was because
somebody was keeping count.

Anybody ever been in a place
where you didn't know how you

were gonna make it through?

And yet God made a
way when there was no way.

And He came
through right on time.

It was simply because
somebody was keeping count

and somebody's sitting up
here, high minded, saying,

I've always had a
job and always had this.

Don't take for granted
that God just gave you security.

He just counted a ways out
and supply well in advance.

I hear me today, friends.

And so I need you to know that
you are in heaven's registry.

And so whatever you
need, his hand is gone.

Supply.

Third thing this teacher's

is that she can't
rescue themselves.

Notice, this is not
the parable of the lost dog

or the lost cat

or the lost bird.

No, he couldn't use that

because a dog, if
he gets lost, he can

find his way back to the house.

If a cat strays, eventually he's
going to navigate himself back

to the one who feeds them.

A bird

has the navigational tools

to fly away and find its
way to its original perch.

But there was intentionality

and referring it
to the lost sheep.

Why? Because the sheep
has no tracking capabilities.

It cannot smell the shepherd

from a ways off and
find its way to the shepherd.

In fact, man, a sheep has
such poor directional skills

that it almost to know
that he's from the west or the

right from the wrong,
he has to be constantly led

by the
directives of the shepherd.

And it's funny
because you have this sheep

that is somewhere maybe

caught in a brier of thorns,
maybe tipped over in the ditch.

And the good thing
that you need to notice

is that he can't get
himself out of the ditch.

He can't release
himself from the Briers.

All he can do is just
bleat and make a loud noise

so that the shepherd
can know where he is.

that the same way a sheep
cannot find the shepherd is
