things in the Scripture today.

When you get there as a pastor,

Exodus one one the Bible says.

Then Moses answered
and said, But suppose

they will not believe
me or listen to my voice.

Suppose they say The
Lord has not appeared to you.

Now, friends, I want
you to understand that

our text today is filled with
powerful and relevant truth.

But the first thing it teaches
saints is that excuses thrive

when you focus on
what happened last time.
00:08:04.38\00:08:07.05
Let me say it
again that excuses abound
00:08:08.68\00:08:11.75
when you always focus on
what happened the last time.
00:08:12.89\00:08:15.76
Now, remember, friends,
that Moses begins by asking,
00:08:16.89\00:08:19.93
Who am I that I
should stand before Pharaoh?
00:08:20.93\00:08:23.87
And it is
00:08:24.23\00:08:24.83
then that God assures Him
00:08:24.87\00:08:27.10
of His presence and he
guarantees the success of Moses.
00:08:28.20\00:08:31.81
But then Moses
proffers a different excuse.
00:08:32.74\00:08:35.58
He suggests that he
has a credibility issue
00:08:36.51\00:08:39.85
and that they
would not believe him.
00:08:40.65\00:08:42.05
Now, understand Church,
this is a very obstinate claim.
00:08:43.18\00:08:46.49
It is the equivalent of a child
talking back to his parents
00:08:47.69\00:08:50.56
because in chapter
three and verse 18,
00:08:51.46\00:08:53.66
God told Moses that
they will heed your voice.
00:08:54.60\00:08:57.97
But Moses is on the other side
saying They won't believe me.
00:08:59.23\00:09:02.47
And what fuels this
thinking with Moses is
00:09:03.44\00:09:06.34
what happened the
last time he was in Egypt.
00:09:06.37\00:09:10.11
Not now.
00:09:11.05\00:09:11.81
Now, think back
with me, if you will.
00:09:11.85\00:09:13.55
Before Moses split
committee and there were
00:09:14.52\00:09:16.55
a number of things that
converged at the same time.
00:09:16.58\00:09:20.96
You see, Moses had
ultimately come to himself
00:09:21.96\00:09:24.66
and Hebrews 11 lets us
know that Moses, before he left,
00:09:25.86\00:09:29.53
had already made a break
with the culture of Egypt.
00:09:30.63\00:09:33.44
In fact, the Bible says
that Moses refused to be called
00:09:34.57\00:09:37.84
the son of Pharaoh's
daughter, and he made a choice
00:09:37.87\00:09:41.44
that I would rather
suffer affliction with my people
00:09:42.58\00:09:45.35
than to enjoy the
pleasures of sin for a season.
00:09:46.41\00:09:49.55
And understand at this
point there is something radical
00:09:50.72\00:09:53.62
that has been loose in Moses.
00:09:54.32\00:09:55.86
There is something adds worthy
that is operating in his soul.
00:09:55.89\00:10:00.23
And one day it all boiled
over when he saw an Egyptian
00:10:01.36\00:10:05.23
and beating a Hebrew, and it
showed up in a murderous rage
00:10:05.27\00:10:09.54
as he killed the Egyptian
and buried his body in the sand.
00:10:10.71\00:10:14.94
And understand, friends,
that shortly thereafter,
00:10:15.94\00:10:18.78
Moses sees two Hebrews
fighting among one another.
00:10:19.88\00:10:22.88
And notice that Moses
steps in as an arbiter of peace.

He comes to try to
consolidate and lead his people,

and he says to them, Why
are you fighting one another?

Seeing as how
you both are Hebrews.

In other words, friends.

Moses is at a place where he
is ready to lead a revolution.

He's trying to get his
people on the same page.

He steps into this
space with the grace of Nelson

X and the courage of Martin

Moses is ready to take the helm.

But notice they don't
applaud Moses leadership.

The Bible says they
mock his leadership.

In fact, they
don't applaud Moses.
00:11:07.40\00:11:09.06
They turn on Moses and
say, Who are you to be judge?
00:11:09.10\00:11:13.34
And Prince over us?
00:11:13.37\00:11:14.60
Will you now kill us
the same way you killed
00:11:14.64\00:11:17.81
the Egyptian and understand
what happens in Moses mind?
00:11:19.01\00:11:21.64
He gets to a place

where he tries to lead them,
but they mock his leadership.

They reject his leadership.

They refuse to follow Moses

and understand that
when Moses talks to God,

the assumption is not
just that they won't believe.

The assumption is that
they won't believe him.

In other words, Church Moses
is at a place where he's saying,

God, I've been there,
done that, and got the T-shirt.

He's saying, Moses,

I've already tried to
lead, but it didn't work.

And the reason
that Moses is hesitant

is because he's focused on
what happened the last time.

And friends, can I suggest
that you will always be hesitant

if you spend your time
focusing always on what happened

the last time?

And see, I need somebody
to know that it is folly

to project next time

based upon what
happened the last time,

and see how many of us
know that sometimes God will aim

you in the direction
of your previous failure.

Sometimes life has
a way of coming full

circle and God will
place you in that same position

to deal with those same people,

place of your past failure

what happens this time.

are wrestling with this

because you've lived your life

believing that
experience is the best teacher.

But how many of us
know experience is not

a better teacher than wisdom?

So you see,
wisdom is the teacher.

Experience is the
principal's office.

Experience is
where God sends you
