It ended when Pharaoh divided
the people based on race.

get that Racism is not just

a social attack against blacks.

Racism is a spiritual attack
against all of God's people,

family deals with the loss

that they've
suffered here in Decatur.

It is that type of
backlash that makes some say

evil always wins.

You see, just

after a just and
fair election in 2020,

there was a backlash

so that
restrictive voter policies

were implemented throughout

the state of Georgia, a state
that was red, that turned blue.

Those same laws

were implemented here in Alabama
and in the state of Arizona.

And it is the
backlash that makes us say

know that it is an old playbook

over perceived
progress of a people.

to know the backlash

is not a time to give up.

minority communities and white

together because it is the proof

end of the Civil War,

backlash to reconstruction

after the 13th Amendment

outlawed the
practice of slavery,

there was an exemption
that applied only to some

so that there was a policy
that allowed what they call

prisoner leasing so
that they were able to lease

free labor from black slaves
that were wrongly put in jail

so that the slavery
practice could continue.

And it gave rise to black codes
that only applied to people

that look like us.

I need you to know
that even after 12 years

of legislative
promises that were made

during the Reconstruction
era, there was a backlash

as the principles of Jim Crow

were put in place
to govern the South

and to nullify the principles

that failed
during Reconstruction.

Do you realize in
1965 the voting rights was

put in place for states

that had a history of
discriminating discriminatory

practices and intimidation of
African-Americans at the polls?

But do you realize in 2013,
the Supreme Court in Shelby

versus Holder

removed that requirement
allowing all Southern states

to implement voting laws
designed to target communities

of color without
federal approval or oversight.

It literally gutted the
act that was put forth in 1965.

Do you realize
that even in 1964,

it put an official outward end
to the practices of Jim Crow,

But all federal did was
move and pivot, and he began

the practice of
mass incarceration

through murder, drug felonies.

They were able
to fill our prisons

with a multitude of
young, black and brown lives

so that they could keep in place

that system that
was already torn down.

And what I'm simply
saying to somebody today,

to all of our white
allies and people of color,

that this is not the
time to give up hope.

teaches us quickly

these 70 years of laxity,

they were growing pretty good.

But the Bible says that

when they afflicted them,

they started to grow

even more in number.

real quick, somebody,

know there is never a bad time

because there is some couple

circumstances to emerge in order

God has called you to become.

What this is showing us

is that growth should
never be circumstantial

because God can grow you
whatever season or placement

see, the children of Israel

were just a perceived
threat before the affliction.

They became a show nuff
threat after the affliction.

In other words,
they didn't say, Let's

wait until slavery
to start having kids.

They didn't say, Let's wait

until after the prejudice
ends to have to develop.

wait till everything is ideal

and perfect to begin
the multiplication process.

though, that they grew under

look at how our people

to not grow in your time.

there was unintended consequence

in the fat portion of the greens

But they would leave

what they call pot liquor
in the pots for the slaves.

Somebody don't know why it's

Now, you can't wait for
the circumstance to change

God do a work in my life.

think that the infant

mortality rate would be so great

in these circumstances
that they could not grow.

The women were
still fertile in slavery.

still potent in slavery.

They didn't need
to wait to everything

multiply right where they are.

word of faith to somebody today

the palm trees grow

The word fears is not friends,

the more they afflicted them,

multiplied and grew.

And it's crazy
because what Pharaoh

didn't realize is
that the growth he feared

was engineered by
the circumstances.

He invoked.

Now, what
historians, sociologists tell us

is that in most
cases, oppressed people

grow faster than the
people that are oppressing them.

But understand that
there is a sociological reason

that feeds into
this particular result,

because you realize that
when people are oppressed

and their burdens heavy
and their afflictions are many

and their burdens are great,

I need you to know that it
creates a particular condition

or a particular environment
that is conducive to growth.

You are not here in
the past of the day.

In other words, they would
try to discourage the women

with their hearts.

This they would try to break
the men with their burdens.

But there was something
about when a burdened man

came home to a burdened

There is something
about when a stress man

when a tired man came home

they were both overwhelmed.

about the outward oppression

was the outward attack

that made them get so close

multiplication was the result

are going to seek community,

relief from their burdens

to be more religious.
