pesticide was airborne,

it would go underneath

the cabinets,

behind the refrigerator,

it would go
underneath the fridge.

It would go into all
the cracks in the house.

And because it was airborne,
it would touch everything

in the atmosphere.

And those
roaches that were hidden.

When you left
had died in public.

By the time you return

and you see those critters
which were hidden, were viewed

from view, were smoked
out by the fumigation process.

You see, fumigation
created an atmosphere

that was no
longer tolerable to them.

And the truth is that
you can't kill an infestation

one critter at a time.

You've got to
create an atmosphere

that smokes them out so that
they no longer have presence.

is that some of us go through
a spiritual fumigation process.

You see, some of us
have allowed rodents

to function under
the surface too long.

Some have partnered with
critters through friendship
00:06:26.48\00:06:29.78
and romantic interest.

Others have allowed habits
to settle under the cabinets

of our soul.

And others have
allowed bitterness and offense

to make an
infestation in the heart.

And my prayer for somebody's
today is that your atmosphere

would be so spiritually
dense that the Holy Spirit

would begin to fog out
everything that is hidden,

everything that is a stronghold,

everything that has
empaneled itself in your life.

And the thing you've got to know
is that this can't be a work

of sections or compartments.

You've got to allow the
spirit to smoke out the whole

atmosphere of your life.

And when the spirit rules
the atmosphere of your soul,

the toxic friends you have.

the unbelief in your life.

that have been there too long.

I remember one time growing up,
I was at my grandmother's house

and my uncle was supposed to
be watching us, and so he ran

to the corner store that wasn't
even a quarter a mile away.

And so when he came back home,
my cousins and I decided that

we were go hide.

So he couldn't find
us when he came back in.

And so we went out
into the wash house

on the back porch of the house.

And so when he came into
the house, he would call.

But we did not respond.

He would say, Where are you?

But we didn't reply.

And we could hear him
going throughout the house

doors opening and closing,

and he eventually began
to look out into the back

where we were

hiding in the pantry,
but we were underneath

a whole pile of clothes.

And so

either knowingly or unknowingly,
he got tired of searching.

And what he did, Malcolm, was
he began in an attempt to rest.

He began to light up a cigaret,

and he began to
light up the cigaret.

My Uncle Sonny allowed
smoke to begin to feel up

the pantry where we
were engaged in devilment.

And it's crazy
because he couldn't see us.

But after a while,

when the atmosphere changed,
he would hear us coughing.

Because guess what?

We could not hide.

Once the atmosphere shifted.

And what I'm
saying to somebody today

is that sometimes you won't know
what's there until you change

your atmosphere.
The Almighty quiet.

you let the Holy Spirit

room with His presence,

there are some
things that been in

that he smokes out
into the public eye.

What have we to do
with the Jesus of Nazareth?

Now understand today, Church,
that this story is filled

with transforming
truth for the people of God.

Here we find

Jesus going back to
Capernaum early in his ministry,

and even though Jesus
was a native of Nazareth,
00:10:14.04\00:10:17.08
compared him, had essentially
00:10:17.78\00:10:19.05
become his
missionary headquarters.
00:10:19.08\00:10:21.82
In fact, the Bible says
that he referred to Capernaum
00:10:22.95\00:10:25.45
as his own city, and
even though Capernaum
00:10:26.42\00:10:29.22
was a Jewish town, it
was also a seaport city
00:10:29.26\00:10:33.96
which was a distribution
center for good entry rates.
00:10:35.03\00:10:38.00
So you would have
folk from all over
00:10:38.87\00:10:40.64
that would come to
the area of Capernaum.
00:10:41.60\00:10:43.61
And when these folk from abroad
00:10:44.31\00:10:45.84
came to Capernaum and
saw the miracles of Jesus,
00:10:45.87\00:10:49.81
they would take the Word
about Christ back to the lands
00:10:50.98\00:10:53.62
from which they originated
00:10:53.65\00:10:55.52
and understand the
reason they knew about Jesus.
00:10:55.55\00:10:59.52
By the time the apostles
came later, after the Ascension,
00:10:59.55\00:11:03.79
is because those
that saw him in Capernaum
00:11:04.69\00:11:07.13
had already been
laying the groundwork there.
00:11:08.10\00:11:10.43
And whenever
Jesus went to Capernaum,
00:11:11.23\00:11:13.23
it was his custom to
go into the synagogue
00:11:14.14\00:11:16.40
and begin teaching the
truth about the Kingdom of God.

And on this particular Sabbath,
00:11:21.04\00:11:22.81
the spiritual

warfare moves
from behind the veil
00:11:25.15\00:11:28.42
into public view for
everyone to consume and beloved.

As we work through this text

principles, I want to espouse.

You see, the first thing
this teaches us that is that you

won't just see the
demonic and the deranged.

Let me say it
again that the demonic

doesn't just show
up in the deranged.

Now, again, friends,
I need you to get that.

There are a number of times
where Jesus cast out devils

that make somewhat a
level of sense to us.

In other words, we
understand why a devil

would be in the
man at the gallery,

the one with steel,
with a legion of demons

who walked around like a maniac

with foam coming
out of his mouth,

cutting himself, which
could not be bound in chains
00:12:16.26\00:12:18.93
because he dwelt among
the tombs or the cemetery.

We understand why the daughter
of the Ciro Phoenician woman

would have a demon,
because they're in that land.

They practice witch

cult, witchcraft, and
they dabbled in the occult.

But what makes this
particular story juicy

is the timing of the demon
and the location of the demon.

this demon in the streets?

He doesn't encounter
this demon at the club.

He doesn't see this

He finds this demon
at the 11:00 service

of a church

that meets on the Sabbath

and understand that there
are different kind of demons.

There are club demons,

there are drug demons,

there are prostitution demons.

But some of us, they know that
there are some church devils

and understand
that that that he here.

What happens here is
that because Jesus arrived,

what happens is there is a
knowledge that Jesus is there.

So the synagogue is
fuller than it normally is.

In fact, it is
filled to capacity

so that in order for
this devil to get there,

he had to get there in
time for Sabbath school.

In other words, this
is a Sabbath school devil.

morning prayer service.

comfortable at church is that

power in the service,

there was so little power
in the people that attended

that this demon felt no
disruption when he showed up

Because the reason we get
deceived is because we only see

the demonic and the deranged.

we can only see the devil

Some will only see the

Some will only see the demonic
in a place of ill repute.

that Satan cannot dwell
in a sacred space of worship.

you believe that the devil is

walking around with pitchforks
and a red type and two horns,

and he dwells in places of

But how many of us know
that the devil is as fearful

as those of the
Lake of Fire as we are?

In other words,
friends, there are some of us

that think, man,

that the devil

cannot stand in the place where
the Spirit of God is moving.

somebody that heaven

spiritual atmosphere?

stratosphere at the bottom.

thermosphere at the top,

the mesosphere in the middle.

things that we learned

is that there are
falling stars, are meteors

penetrate Earth's atmosphere

they are disintegrated
