of heaven. While, here on earth.

Now, y'all say, man,
what they need strength for

is having you remember that
heaven one time had war in it.

That that the
dragon and his angels

fought against
Michael and his angels.

But they did not prevail.

Neither was any place found
for them any longer in heaven.

And that great dragon,
the servant of all, was

cast out onto the earth.

And his angels

And the reason the
devil couldn't prevail

was because the strength
of heaven was too great.

The strength of heaven was
too great for him to overthrow.

The strength of heaven was
too great for him to come up

so that guess what?

He could make war in heaven,

but he couldn't overthrow heaven

because the
strength was too great.

And what I'm saying today,
that the strength of heaven

doesn't mean you
won't be attacked.

It doesn't mean the
enemy won't come for you.

It doesn't mean the
weapon won't be fired.

It just means that
the strength and you.

It's too great for
you to be overthrown.

Is there anybody that still
believes that greater is he

Then he that is in the world.

It means that nothing

That means no matter
what you're going through,

through with your faith intact.

from the love of
God, which is in Christ.

Jesus, because heaven's strength

keeps me from being overthrown.

So you ought to
have the peace of had

the access of heaven and
you could have the strength

of having somebody

He comes to
Jesus, makes his request.

So what I do in order to inherit
eternal life in is crazy.

Because Jesus, knowing
what's in his heart, puts forth

an instruction that's designed
to draw out of this heart.

Those things that are hidden.

So the Bible says that
he is a rich, young ruler.

Now, I understand

that when the
Bible says he is a ruler,

it simply means that he is a
religious leader of the time,
00:03:27.54\00:03:30.91
because we know that the Jews
were under Roman oppression.

So his rulership
was one of theology,
00:03:34.31\00:03:36.71
that he was a part of
the sect of the Pharisees.

Are the sadnesses.
Are you with me today?

So he says to me,
You know what to do.

I mean, you the big dog,
you the man on this block.

You know what you want to
do if you want to be saved,

he says, then just
keep the commandments

and notice what Jesus does.

France, and you won't
get mad at me, is admonition.

Just a second.

But he says, Listen,
just keep the commandments.

And he uses the last six that
have to do with our fellow man.

He says, Man, don't
steal and don't commit

adultery and don't
defraud your neighbor
00:04:05.24\00:04:07.38
and don't bear
false witness and honor
00:04:08.21\00:04:09.51
your mother and father
all the days of your life.
00:04:09.54\00:04:12.25
And in Matthew's version,
it says, Love your neighbor
00:04:13.42\00:04:15.35
as you love yourself.
00:04:15.38\00:04:17.55
Now, I need you to get
that the young man's response
00:04:17.59\00:04:20.06
is not one of arrogance.
00:04:20.09\00:04:23.32
It's one of confusion
00:04:23.36\00:04:26.03
because this man,
he's like, Well, Lord,
00:04:26.06\00:04:27.86
I've done all these
things from my youth.
00:04:27.86\00:04:30.67
I need you to get.
00:04:30.70\00:04:31.63
Now, he's not
saying, Man, I've done this.
00:04:31.67\00:04:33.23
He's not saying I'm and he's not
saying I've met the criteria.
00:04:33.27\00:04:36.94
He's remembered that he's
already done these things.

And yet there
is a whole yearning
00:04:39.17\00:04:40.84
that drives him
to the foot of Jesus.

He says, I've
kept the commandments

and it's still
something missing.

I've been good and
there's still something lacking.

I follow the rules, but
there is still something

that's been omitted.

So he comes to Jesus and
says, Lord, what do I lack?

And Jesus says, You
all still with the pass?
00:05:01.00\00:05:05.43
No, don't, don't,
don't. Just listen to me.

See yourself as the
young ruler today, he says,

sell everything you have.
00:05:13.11\00:05:16.78
Do you still love him?
00:05:16.81\00:05:21.52
Give it to the poor.
00:05:21.55\00:05:24.15
Then gives an addendum
and says, Take up your cross
00:05:24.19\00:05:29.12
and follow me.
00:05:29.16\00:05:31.09
And then you'll
have treasure in heaven.

And let me just pause and
say to the body of Christ,
00:05:34.66\00:05:37.07
be careful about saying I'm
a commandment keeping believer.

Because remember, Jesus did
something in the New Testament.

Remember Jesus.
00:05:49.34\00:05:50.48
I didn't come to destroy the
law and the prophets, he says.
00:05:50.51\00:05:53.15
I came to fulfill it.
00:05:53.72\00:05:54.78
But you notice what he
did was he simply summarized
00:05:54.82\00:05:57.29
the commandments,
and kind of one of them
00:05:57.32\00:05:59.49
alluded him down to two.
00:05:59.52\00:06:00.82
He took the first four
00:06:00.86\00:06:02.16
that had to do with
relationship with God.
00:06:02.19\00:06:04.06
And he says, this is
the greatest commandment,
00:06:04.09\00:06:05.89
that you love God
with all your heart,
00:06:05.93\00:06:07.76
your soul, your
mind, and your strength.
00:06:07.76\00:06:09.50
And the second
commandment is lacking unto it
00:06:09.53\00:06:12.23
that you love your
neighbor as yourself
00:06:12.27\00:06:15.90
and understand that this task
was not to have him walk away.

This test was to show
him how far he had to go.

You see, his understanding,
Bobbie, of the commandments

was too small to

see in his mind.

Just keeping the commandments

was just avoiding
certain infractions.

But God is trying to teach
him something much more epic.

That obedience

is not the
fulfillment of the law,

but love is the
fulfillment of the law.

He says, Me, if you love
me with everything you have,

then you met the standard.
00:06:54.28\00:06:55.74
And guess what?

While we talk about standards,
you hadn't met the standard

until you can say truthfully
that I love my neighbor.

Oh. You want me to end this?

But I'm just getting started.

You're got to love your
neighbor like you love yourself.

Now, notice Jesus didn't say,

make a donation to
the Jesus Treasury.

He said, sell it
and give it to the poor.
00:07:23.27\00:07:26.24
Because he says, I
kept all these commandments
00:07:26.27\00:07:30.58
and so I need
somebody to get this.
00:07:30.61\00:07:32.75
Did you notice that even
those last six commandments
00:07:32.78\00:07:35.22
aren't don't steal, don't kill,
00:07:35.25\00:07:37.22
don't covet your
neighbor, don't commit adultery.
00:07:37.25\00:07:39.42
Do you realize that
00:07:39.45\00:07:40.66
those things don't even really
speak to your spirituality?
00:07:40.69\00:07:45.89
They just speak
to human civility.
00:07:45.93\00:07:48.40
Do you realize that in
most society, those last six

are simply a part of
a civil code of living
00:07:51.33\00:07:53.97
that even nonbelievers live by?

Nonbelievers don't kill
and nonbelievers don't say.

Do you realize that

our understanding of
the law is too small?

If it's just about
avoiding infractions,

instead of living
at the love of Christ

in such a radical
way that it transforms

the culture for
the glory of God.

See, some of us boast
00:08:17.99\00:08:19.33
a walk around
boasting about being civil
00:08:19.36\00:08:22.53
when the truth is we
think we're being spiritual.
00:08:22.56\00:08:26.90
Never confuse
civility with spirituality.
00:08:26.94\00:08:33.38
You think you're doing
something or pass, young man?
00:08:33.41\00:08:36.21
I put my hands on them.
00:08:36.24\00:08:39.18
That just means you civil
00:08:39.21\00:08:42.28
laying hands on them in
prayer reveals that a spiritual
00:08:42.32\00:08:49.42
why I ain't curse them out.
00:08:49.46\00:08:52.93
That just means you're civil.
00:08:52.96\00:08:55.13
But speaking
00:08:55.16\00:08:56.23
a word of encouragement
shows that your spiritual

laying down your burdens
on Sabbath makes you civil.

Removing somebody else's burden
on Sabbath makes you spiritual.

Are you hearing
me today, friends?

I need somebody to understand
that giving them a dollar

at the gas station to make
them go away makes you civil.
00:09:11.85\00:09:15.08
But giving them your time
and your attention, that's
00:09:15.12\00:09:17.49
what makes you spiritual. Okay.
00:09:17.52\00:09:20.62
In other words, just
being tolerant of them
00:09:20.66\00:09:22.86
makes you civil, but loving your
enemies makes you spiritual.

I need you to know

that we've got to stop
measuring our obedience

through just a lack
of doing an infraction,

but measure it
by how much we love

and how much we
deposit and how much we give

and how much we show.

And to those that

Because until you
have perfect love,

you are not a
commandment keeper.

law abiding citizen.

got the love of Jesus

operating so
richly in your soul.

Second problem with Richard
really is that he loved the gift

more than the giver, the brother
track Jesus down on foot.

I mean I mean literally, man.

I mean, he puts
himself all the way out there

in front of
everybody. And so, Jesus, man.

I mean, he's straight, man.

He's all the way
in until Jesus said,

Sell everything you have
00:10:50.31\00:10:52.41
and give it to
the poor. It is crazy.

You could see his
whole energy change.

All of a sudden
he started knocking

the dirt off
his time force robe.

He start getting the
dirt off his magic shoes.

He tries to hit his head
back up on his Gucci turban.

You can see him

reclaim his dignity and
his composure in his posture

as he, Wible says.

He walks away sorrowful.

That's crazy, Church.

He probably would
have been straight

if Jesus just sell
half of what you have

probably would have been good

if you just give away a
portion of what you have.

He might have been straight
if he said Jesus, just give.

Or if you say just give
away most of what you have.

But when it came down to giving

most of the way in,

you can't be half the way.

You can't be part of the way.

And you can't embrace eternity

unless you're
willing to get all the way in

with Jesus.

And it's interesting.

Friends of mine, he's
literally weighing his wardrobe

over against Jesus, his estate,
00:12:16.16\00:12:21.30
over against Jesus,
00:12:21.34\00:12:23.57
his reputation in love
of ease and his names and
00:12:23.61\00:12:26.74
and his adulation of men. He's
waiting that over against Jesus.
00:12:26.78\00:12:30.95
And you realize he
comes to the conclusion
00:12:30.98\00:12:32.85
that those things
weigh more heavily
00:12:32.88\00:12:37.09
than eternal life.
00:12:37.12\00:12:41.16
And he walks away because
to ask feels too expensive.

But you know what this
actually shows friends of mine

is that he didn't
really know who Jesus was.

So remember when he first came
to Jesus and say, Good teacher

rewards, he says, he
says, Why do you call me good?
00:12:59.57\00:13:05.11
He says, Nobody's good but God.
00:13:05.15\00:13:07.85
So he's trying to make sure
00:13:07.88\00:13:09.52
that the rich, some
ruler, knows who he is.
00:13:09.55\00:13:12.95
You're not just dealing with
a prophet or an ordinary rabbi.

I need you to know that
you are dealing with Jehovah.

Dear Emmanuel, God with us.

Why is that important?

Because all Jewish teachers
had the fundamental belief

that all gifting
ultimately came from God.

that every good and
perfect gift comes from above.

If he had known who Jesus was,

upon the Thousand Hill and the
silver and gold belong to him.

If he had known that he
was God, he would realize

he's the God of
Deuteronomy eight eight.

He's the one that gives
power and order to give wealth.

If he had known who he was,

he would know he's
the God of some 75.
00:13:58.50\00:14:01.47
Where promotion does not
come from the East or the West,
00:14:01.50\00:14:04.81
but promotion comes from God.

And it's

crazy because he
swears allegiance to the gift

when the giver is
sitting right in front of him.

You see, friends,
this is the equivalent

of choosing an Amazon account

above a
relationship with Jeff Bezos.

It's like saying, Steve,
I would rather have Laker
00:14:33.34\00:14:35.87
tickets, then go to the
locker room to meet LeBron
00:14:35.90\00:14:41.68
is saying that I would rather
have allegiance to the gifts
00:14:41.71\00:14:46.82
than the one who gave it.
00:14:46.85\00:14:48.88
And so it shows the
foolishness of all coveting
00:14:48.92\00:14:51.82
and the pursuit of things.
00:14:52.45\00:14:53.59
Because how many of us realize
00:14:53.62\00:14:55.02
that every gift is going to
decline, every declared gift
00:14:55.06\00:15:01.83
is going to
rust, is going to rot,
00:15:02.66\00:15:03.77
is going through and
it's going to go out of style.

But habit of not snow
that if you got the giver.

Guess what, man?

Your gifts are going
to always be upgraded

because you're in a relationship

with the one who
supplies all the one

who gives all
the one who does all.

And see friends of mine.

You got to always
realize who the giver is.

Because he

if you don't know
who your giver is,

you'll swear
allegiance to the wrong thing.

See, I need you to
realize that the giver is God.

Your conduit is just.

The job is just the conduit.

So God simply
gives it through the top.

So you never swear
allegiance to the job.

You swear allegiance to
the God who gave you the job.

So that even if
man takes away the job,

with the giver of the job.

Or we all act to the promise.

When you don't
know who the giver is,

and integrity and your
values and your beliefs

just to get gifts.

know who the giver is,

you swear
allegiance to the right one.

It's great.

kids was a little bit
smaller and one day, you know,

the kids at the table had
given all of them some desserts.

And, you know, my oldest son
had finished his dessert first.

And my daughter, you
know, she ate hers slow

so that the other brothers
have watched her eat hers.

And so it's crazy
because now the oldest son

is trying to get her to
give her the piece of cake.

And so, man, he goes

and gets a toy that he knows
he's wanted for a long time

and says, listen,
I'll give you the toy

if you give me your dessert.

Now, it's crazy because
he's evaluating the deal
00:16:47.50\00:16:49.80
and she knows
it's a bad deal. Why?

Because the dessert is going
to be gone in a few minutes,
00:16:51.84\00:16:54.44
but the toy is going to
be around for a long time.

And she says
something I'll never forget.

She says, I'm not
giving my toy for the dessert.

If I want some
more, I'll just ask Daddy.

In other words, I know
the giver, so I got to.

Compromise myself for a gift.

When you're in a
relationship with the giver.

In other words,
when you know the giver,
