and we're going to go to chapter
17 first, Samuel chapter 17.

And we are going to verse number

40 today. And we are going to
watch God work today. 1 Samuel
chapter 17, verse number 40. I

believe you have it right now.
And so we want to read it. And
you are hearing the word of God

says 1 Samuel chapter 17, verse
number 40. '' And he took his
staff in his hand and he chosen

five smooth stones out of the
Brook, put them in a separate
bag, which he had even in the

hand and he drew near to the

bare the shield went before him.

the God of the armies of Israel,
whom thou has to defy this day,

over the philistine with the

message. What is God work?.

Watch God work. Now the story of

David and Goliath is one of the
most popular stories in the
Bible. Whether you are a
00:05:13.58\00:05:17.58
Bible-believing Jesus loving
church-going, or I should say
virtual church-going member or
00:05:17.61\00:05:27.72
not. Everybody knows something
about David and Goliath. This
story has been used throughout
00:05:27.76\00:05:36.33
the ages. It has been used
throughout the world to
illustrate the ability of the
00:05:36.36\00:05:45.64
small to defeat the big, the
lesser to overcome the greater,
the minor, to beat the major and
00:05:45.67\00:05:52.75
the underdog to defy all odds
and take down the heavily
favoured from sports to business
00:05:52.78\00:05:58.45
to life. It's in this story that
we are reminded that giants do
die. The bigger they are, the
00:05:58.49\00:06:07.00
harder they fall. I wish
somebody knew what I was talking
about. Now, giants, you need to
00:06:07.03\00:06:16.57
understand can be many different
things from bosses to coworkers,
to the Coronavirus, to cancer,
00:06:16.60\00:06:20.14
to problematic family members,
to so-called friends, giants are
obstacles that are in our way,
00:06:20.18\00:06:31.49
but in the name of Jesus giants
do fall now for those who don't
know the story, I have trouble

remembering the story. Let me
spend a few minutes reminding
you of the story. David was the
00:06:45.67\00:06:57.08
youngest of eight sons. He had
two primary jobs. Number one, he
was a shepherd number two. He
00:06:57.11\00:07:09.76
was to bring supplies to his
three brothers who were in
Israel's army on the front lines
00:07:09.79\00:07:19.03
of battle. And after David would
take the supplies to his three
brothers in the Israelite army,
00:07:19.07\00:07:29.68
he would bring reports back to
his father, Jesse, about the
wellbeing of his brothers. Now
00:07:29.71\00:07:40.16
first Samuel chapter 17 tells us
that at a specific time when
David showed up to take supplies

to brothers, he saw a battle
formation. He saw the
philistines standing on one
00:07:53.27\00:08:02.04
Hill. I saw the Israelites
standing on another Hill and in
the middle of the two Hills was
00:08:02.08\00:08:15.89
the Valley of Eli between them.
He also saw that there was this
gladiator champion, the gigantic
00:08:15.92\00:08:27.94
soldier from Gath who was apart
of the Philistine, his name
Goliath nine feet, nine inches
00:08:27.97\00:08:41.78
tall. He wore a bronze helmet,
bronze armour that weighed 125
pounds. He carried a bronze
00:08:41.82\00:08:51.16
sword that was slung between his
shoulders and his spear shaft
was like a weaver's beam with
00:08:51.19\00:09:01.24
the iron point of his spirit,
weighing 15 pounds. Goliath
shouted on this day to the
00:09:01.27\00:09:09.58
Israelites; 'Why do you come up
and line up in battle formation?
He said, am I not a Philistines?
00:09:09.61\00:09:17.72
And are you not, servant of
Saul. Choose one of your men to
come out here and fight against
00:09:17.75\00:09:24.29
me. If he wins the battle and
kills me, then we will be your
servants but if I win the battle
00:09:24.33\00:09:32.87
and I kill him, you will be our
servants.' Goliath. This
Philistine bully taunted Israel

with these same words for 40
days: 'bring me, somebody, to
fight'. Now when the King of

Israel Saul heard these words
from Goliath, Saul was fearful,
scared, and afraid, but David
00:09:48.25\00:09:55.09
wasn't scared. David was not
fearful. David realised that
fear was just a state of mind.

David realized that fear was
nothing but false evidence
appearing real. David hears

Goliath and David then because
he's fearless begins. Nash. Is
there a reward for the defeat?

Why are people letting this
happen? What will be done for
the man who kills this

Philistine and removes this
disgrace from Israel and just
who is this uncircumcised

Philistine that he should defy
the armies of the living God,
let me tell you something. There

comes a time in the life every
now and then you got to speak up
and speak out. You can't let the
00:10:34.60\00:10:46.01
enemies of God defy the people
of God. You see. It's one thing
to talk about me, but you're not
00:10:46.04\00:10:51.45
going to talk about my God. It's
one thing to defy me, but you
are not going to defy my God.

You are not going to disrespect
my God, but David's brothers
hear David talking and they

rebuke him. Hush up, boy, be
quiet. You're talking too much.
And you don't know what you're

talking about. David was a
teenager. David was smaller, but
what that David lacks in size,

David had in faith and in the
heart. A heart that trusted in
the Lord and not himself, a

heart that would not let his God
be disrespected, a heart that
would not let his God be

defined. And so there are a lot
of things I learned from this
story, but I just want to share

a few today. And I want to begin
number one by saying, I have
learned in this story, that the

giants in our lives will never
be defeated by our own
abilities. Let me say that

again. The giants in our lives
will never be defeated by our
own abilities. Now David took
00:12:01.68\00:12:10.03
fighting Goliath personally
because this battle was not
against him, but this battle was
00:12:10.06\00:12:12.43
against the Lord. Are you
hearing what I am saying? I said
earlier that we call this story,
00:12:12.46\00:12:26.14
the story of David and Goliath,
but just like I said, it
probably could have been called
00:12:26.17\00:12:41.72
the story of Saul and Goliath.
Truthfully, this story should be
called Jehovah against Goliath.

Because when you look at this
fight, this fight was a Mitch
match. From the beginning. David
00:12:48.10\00:12:56.74
said to Goliath in 1 Samuel 17:
45, we read it earlier; 'You
come against me with a dagger,
00:12:56.77\00:13:03.01
spear and a sword, but I come
against you in the name of the
Lord of hosts in the name of the
00:13:03.04\00:13:11.39
God of Israel's armies.'
Goliath, couldn't be defeated.
Hear me well by David's own
00:13:11.42\00:13:18.49
means this defeat would come
from the Lord. And the sooner we
acknowledged this, the sooner we
00:13:18.53\00:13:25.67
recognize this, the quicker we
can defeat our giant, that the
battle is not yours, but the
00:13:25.70\00:13:31.44
battle is the Lord's. Understand
my friends. The devil is not
afraid of you. The devil is

afraid of the God that is inside
of you and greater is he, that
is in you than the devil that is

in the world. If God, before us,
who can be against us, no weapon
formed against us is going to

prosper. It won't work. Number
one, the giants in our lives
will never be defeated by our

own abilities. Number two, your
past has prepared you for what
is to come. I said, your past
00:14:04.04\00:14:10.58
has prepared you for what is to
come. Why was David so brave?
Why did David have so much
00:14:10.61\00:14:12.85
courage? Saul told David in 1
Samuel 17: 33, you can't go
fight this Philistine. You're
00:14:12.88\00:14:18.49
just a child. He's a warrior.
Goliath has been a warrior since
he was young, but I love David's
00:14:18.52\00:14:26.16
answer. In 1 Samuel 17:34 - 37
David says 'your servant has
been tending his father's sheep'
00:14:26.19\00:14:31.43
Whenever a lion or whatever a
bear came and carried off a lamb
from the flock. David said, 'I
00:14:31.47\00:14:42.71
went after it.' He said, 'I
struck it. Now I rescued the
lamb from its mouth. If it
00:14:42.74\00:14:47.95
reared up against me, I grabbed
it by its fur. I struck it down
and killed it. Your servant has

killed lions. Your servant has
killed bears. And this
uncircumcised Philistine is

going to be just like them for,
he has defied the armies of
living God.' I wish I had a

witness in his place. 'The Lord
who rescued me', David said from
the paw of the lion, the Lord

who rescued me from the paw of
the bear, what rescued me from
the hand of the Philistines. So

Saul then said to David.' all
right young man, go and may the
Lord be with you. David had

preparation. The Lord had
prepared him for this. For many
of us, the Lord has been

preparing us for the battles
that we're going to face. We
often ask ourselves, Lord, why

did you allow me to go through
this back there? And God says, I
allowed you to go through this

back there because I was trying
to prepare you for something up
here. You all do not hear what I
00:16:06.36\00:16:16.97
am saying. God is preparing you
for something greater. And as we
near the end of time, and we're
00:16:17.01\00:16:23.14
wondering why all these trials,
why all these calamities, why
all this chaos, God is getting

us ready. God is getting us
ready for the greater battle.
We're going to face at the end

of time. So if you can't handle
this now, I don't know how
you're going to handle what's

coming. So God is preparing us.
Number three, I have learned, do
not try to wear someone else's
00:16:39.33\00:16:56.38
armour. Do not try to wear
somebody else's armour. First,
Samuel 17:38 through 40, it
00:16:56.41\00:16:58.51
states. Then Saul had his own
military clothes put on David.
He put on a bronze's helmet on
00:16:58.55\00:17:05.12
David's head and had him put on
armour. Verse number 39 says
David strapped his sword on over
00:17:05.15\00:17:12.69
the military clothes. And the
Bible says he tried to walk, but
he wasn't used to him. So what
00:17:12.73\00:17:18.33
David say? David said, 'I cannot
walk in these. I'm not used to
all of this.' So the Bible says
00:17:18.37\00:17:28.61
David took all that stuff off.
You see Saul's armour is not
what got David to where he was.

You all do not hear what I am
saying. I said Saul's armour did
not get David to where he was.

Somebody is still not getting
this. I cannot wear somebody
else's suit. That suit was made.

That suit was tailored for them.
And just like somebody, I cannot
wear their suit. Somebody else

cannot wear my suit because this
suit was made. This suit was
tailored just for me. You cannot

fight somebody else in somebody
else's armour. Their armour was
made for them. Your armour was

you. It is for you. And what God
has for me, it is for me. 1

his staff in his hand. He chose
five smooth stones from the

in his shepherd bag. Then with
his sling in his hand, he

approached the philistine
Sometimes friends of mine, when
we are facing our giants. We

want to look around and use the
resources that have become
available to us. But this is

where we have to be careful.
Yes, we have come a long way.
Yes, we are doing better now
00:19:15.08\00:19:23.02
than when we did before. But
don't you forget how you got
where you are. Do not forget. It

was God who got you to the point
where you are now. Don't get the
big head and think you got there

on your own. Number four, I
learned when the giant is down,
number four, when the giant is

down, finish him. I said, when
the giant is down, finished him
off. You all do not hear what I

am saying now. No, the rest of
the story quickly, I am moving.
Verse 43 says that Goliath asks

David, 'I am a dog? that thou
comes to me with sticks and
stones?' David's response to

Goliath in verse number 45,
'thou comes to me with a sword
and with a spear, with a shield.

But I come to thee in the name
of the Lord of hosts. I come to
thee under the God of the armies

of Israel, whom thou has defied,
this day, will the Lord
delivered me into my hand. And I

head from thee, I will give the
carcasses of the host of the

fowls of the air into the wild
beast of the earth that all the

shall know that the Lord saveth

battle is the Lord's. And he
will give you into our hands.

Now, David, we know the story
then took a stone, put it in a
sling, slung that sling to the

forehead of Goliath and the
giant dropped dead. Now the
story is not over. Remember now

David had a sling. David had
some rocks. David did not have a
sword, but yet David said in

verse 46 that 'he takes
Goliath's head'. So what does
David do? David takes Goliath

word, cuts off Goliath's head
and the Philistines then the
Bible says they run and flee.

David, not only knocked Goliath
down, but David killed Goliath,
but not only did he kill

Goliath. David took Goliath
sword, cut his head off so that
Goliath would never come back

anymore. When God works through
you to defeat your giants and
you knock them down in the name

of Jesus, I dare you to finish
them off. So they never come
back again. I wish I had a

witness in his place. We preach
sermons on David and Goliath. We
teach lessons on David and

Goliath. We sing songs on David
and Goliath and we make these
sermons. We make these stories.

We make these songs applicable
to our lives and tell people
that God will defeat your

Goliath. God will defeat your
giants. God will defeat your
enemies. We tell them number
00:22:52.47\00:22:58.67
one, the giants in our lives
will never be defeated by our
own abilities. We tell them your
00:22:58.71\00:23:04.75
past has prepared you for what
is to come. We tell them, do not
try to wear someone else's
00:23:04.78\00:23:09.98
armour. We tell them when a
giant is down, finish him off.
But this week I was reading and

there was a lesson in this story
that I want to hammer home
today. And this point is the

meat of today's message because
you probably heard points one
through four before, but this is

the meat of our message today.
And that it is this. Sometimes
our enemies, sometimes our
00:23:30.84\00:23:39.55
giants, sometimes our Goliath
are put in our lives path to
bless us. Let me say that one

more time. Our enemies are put
in our life paths to bless us.
Now. Think about it. I am going

to make this point. Then I am
going to sit down. If it weren't
for Goliath, David would have
00:24:01.87\00:24:10.75
only been known as a shepherd
boy. If it were not for Goliath,
David would have only been some
00:24:10.78\00:24:20.29
unknown youth tending his
father's sheep. If it were not
for Goliath, David would have
00:24:20.32\00:24:29.03
just been a modern-day.
Israelite Pathfinder. If it were
not for Goliath, David probably
00:24:29.06\00:24:33.60
wouldn't have gone on to become
the King of Israel. Goliath was
strategically placed in David's
00:24:33.64\00:24:40.81
path, not to defeat David, but
to promote David y'all don't
hear what I'm saying. Goliath

was created for David's purpose.
Without Goliath. David never
would have become King without
00:24:49.02\00:24:58.03
Goliath. David would have never
taken the throne. What then may
look like a setback. It is

really a set up to get you to
your throne, to get you to your
destiny, to get you to where God

wants you in this life to fulfil
his purposes. It is all a part
of God's plan to get you where

you supposed to be. In fact,
somebody right now, you ought to
thank God right now for all the

Goliath in your life, that God
ordained and allowed to come
across your path. They were

created to promote you. Thank
you, Jesus, and push you into
your purpose. And so that's why

I say today. When I think about
this story, watch God work with
the devil means for evil. God

means for good watch God work.
Even though we may not
understand, you just watch God

work. Even though you may see
things differently, watch God
work. Even though you might've

done it another way, watch God
work. Even though you may feel
like giving up, watch God work.

Even though you may ask, why do
the wicked prosper? Watch God
work. Even though you are being

talked about, watch God work.
Even though you're being
criticized, watch God work. Even

though sickness is running
through your body, I dare you to
watch God work. Even though you
00:26:18.71\00:26:25.51
have lost your friends, watch
God work. Even though you might
have made some mistakes in your
00:26:25.55\00:26:33.39
life, what God worked in. And
though you're dealing with the
Goliath, watch God work. Your
00:26:33.42\00:26:40.66
giants were created to promote
you and push you into your
purpose. So go ahead, face your
00:26:40.70\00:26:48.10
giant and Watch God work. Your
enemies, friends come not to
crush you, but they come to get
00:26:48.14\00:26:57.15
purpose out of you. But just
hold on. Because the Bible said
in 1 Peter 5:6, that he shall

exalt you in due time, I am
trying to stop, but let me say
this. He shall thank you, Jesus.

Exalt you in due time. These two
words due time, come from the
Greek root word, Kairos, which

is different than Kronos. Kronos
is a chronological time, time or
time on the clock. But God,

somebody knows doesn't move by
time on the clock. God is above
time. God is timeless. So

Chronicles is chronological time
that we Mark by looking at a
clock. But Kairos means thank

you, Jesus. That God will get us
out in His timing. Anybody has
been through a trial, anybody

been through tribulation and for
a moment, it looked like you
were not going to make it. But

side of it in due time, you
surrendered yourself to the

come when you want him, but he's

the midnight hour, God's going
