Joshua, Chapter
Six, verse number one,

the word of God says, “Now,
Jericho was straightly shut up

because of the children of
Israel. None went out and none

came in.” Verse number two,
“And the Lord said unto Joshua,

“See, I have given
into thine hand Jericho,
00:00:56.92\00:01:00.39
and the king thereof in
the mighty men of valor.

And ye shall compass or surround
the city, all you men of war

and go round about the city
once. Thus shalt thou six days.”

priests shall bear before the

Today, we want to challenge you
on the subject as we shared
earlier, Walls Coming Down.

Lord, God, bless us now. We have
sung, we have prayed, but now we
need a word from you.

Speak to your people today,
Walls Coming Down. Somebody has

got a wall, God. It
needs to come down today.

So I pray the power of the Holy
Spirit that through your word,

Let me begin this way. Let
us remember what a wall is.

We all know what it all is, but
just in case you do not
remember, let me remind you.

A wall is a structure that
divides or separates an area.
You cannot cross a wall.

You cannot walk through a wall.
You cannot penetrate a wall

because a wall is designed to
keep you out. A wall is designed
to keep you from going in.

A wall is designed to separate
you from something or someone

else. But let me remind you
today that a wall is not just

physical. A wall is not just
literal. But a wall can also be

a figurative wall, because a
wall can be symbolic of an
obstacle, an impediment, a

barrier, a hindrance, an
obstruction, or a separation to
00:03:50.06\00:03:55.43
something else. We live in a
world full of walls. Academic
walls separate the educated from
00:03:55.46\00:04:06.54
the uneducated. Political walls
separate the liberal from the
00:04:06.57\00:04:11.78
conservative. Economic walls
separate the rich from the poor.
00:04:11.81\00:04:16.82
Social walls separate the
privileged from the prejudiced.

And racist walls separate
the black from the whites.

The world is full of walls and
all of us, whether we want to
acknowledge it or not,

we have a wall.

And friends of mine, if you do
not have a wall or do not think

you have a wall, let me tell you
to keep on living. As we are in
this season of people having
00:04:43.45\00:04:48.68
enough and getting tired
of racism, and tired of social
00:04:48.72\00:04:51.92
injustice, and notice I said
having enough and getting tired
00:04:51.95\00:04:55.39
of, and I did not say this
season of heightened racism
00:04:55.42\00:04:58.09
because somebody thinks racism
is just happening now or just
raising its ugly head again.
00:04:58.13\00:05:04.80
But let me remind you that
its head never went anywhere.
00:05:04.83\00:05:08.97
In fact, its head is always been
here. So in the words of Will
00:05:09.00\00:05:12.77
Smith, racism is not getting
worse, it is just getting
00:05:12.81\00:05:15.88
recorded. Do I have
a witness in His place?
00:05:15.91\00:05:18.21
But during these times, I hear
people say, “Well, racism has
never happened to me.
00:05:18.25\00:05:22.75
It would not happen to me.”
Well, keep on living. The day
00:05:22.78\00:05:26.35
will come. When it will happen
to you, if it has not happened
already because for some of us,
00:05:26.39\00:05:30.26
you just do not
know it has happened

because you are so used to
people talking to you the way
00:05:32.13\00:05:35.06
they do or doing to you what
they do. And because they have
00:05:35.10\00:05:38.87
done it so long, they think it
is all right. You have accepted
it, but it is not all right.

Enough is enough.

But if it has not
happened, you keep on living

because one day you will be
faced with a wall. It may not be

a racist wall. It could be a
political wall. It could be a
social wall. It could be a

financial wall. It could be a
job wall. It could be a family
wall. It could even be a
00:05:57.32\00:06:03.32
spiritual wall, but we will all
have a well. Well, God's spoken
promise of all of our lives,
00:06:03.36\00:06:08.50
all of us find
ourselves facing walls.
00:06:08.53\00:06:10.40
We all find ourselves
facing some gaps that need to be
00:06:10.43\00:06:14.70
bridged. Some habit that needs
to be broken. Some grip that
needs to be set free.

Some problem that needs to be
solved that is keeping us from
00:06:19.61\00:06:24.48
receiving God, the God ordained
place of victory that he asked
00:06:24.51\00:06:27.72
for us. There are some of us and
sometimes that for all the
promise God has spoken in our
00:06:27.75\00:06:34.62
lives, we still find ourselves
facing situations, facing
hurdles, facing barriers,
00:06:34.66\00:06:41.60
facing circumstances
that seemed to be impossible.
00:06:41.63\00:06:46.27
But I want somebody to know
today that in the name of Jesus
00:06:46.30\00:06:50.04
Christ, there comes a point
in time in your life when walls
00:06:50.07\00:06:55.81
must come down. And I have come
to remind somebody today that no
matter what the walls are in
00:06:55.84\00:06:59.45
your life, walls do come down.
And God is the one who can tear
00:06:59.48\00:07:05.29
those walls down. In the text, a
familiar text, we all know this
text, Joshua, Chapter Six.
00:07:05.32\00:07:11.33
We find the Israelites in the
same position that some of us
00:07:11.36\00:07:16.73
are in today. The Israelites
are standing on the edge of the
00:07:16.77\00:07:21.20
Promised Land. After years of
bondage in Egypt, after years,
after facing the Red Sea,
00:07:21.24\00:07:27.01
after wandering in the
wilderness for forty years,
after their period of tests,
00:07:27.04\00:07:31.55
trouble and tribulation,
00:07:31.58\00:07:33.21
the children of Israel are
now standing on the brink of the
00:07:33.25\00:07:37.22
Promised Land and the Promised
Land is in their View. But there
is a bit of a snag in the
00:07:37.25\00:07:44.39
process. There is a
stumbling block in their way.
00:07:44.43\00:07:47.36
You see, even though they have
caught a glimpse of the Promised
00:07:47.40\00:07:50.57
Land, even though their victory
is just around the corner,
00:07:50.60\00:07:54.24
even though they see victory in
sight, they still cannot touch
00:07:54.27\00:07:59.54
it because there is
a wall in their way.
00:07:59.57\00:08:01.98
A wall That is hindering them
from moving where they are right
now to the place where God
00:08:02.01\00:08:07.18
has called them to be.
A wall thats trapping them
00:08:07.22\00:08:10.55
between what they had been
delivered from and what they are
00:08:10.59\00:08:16.09
trying to go into. They cannot
go through the wall. They cannot
00:08:16.12\00:08:20.66
go over the wall. They cannot
penetrate the wall. They are
00:08:20.70\00:08:25.80
facing a wall. Now, you will
remember, God brought them out
00:08:25.83\00:08:28.17
of Egypt. God delivered them
from the fiery hand of pharaoh.
God gave them water out of a
00:08:28.20\00:08:31.97
rock. God set up a dry cleaners
in the desert where they had no
washing machine, no dryer,
00:08:32.01\00:08:36.95
no bathtubs, no showers,
but God kept them smelling good
00:08:36.98\00:08:40.88
and looking good
at the same time,
00:08:40.92\00:08:42.62
because there is no way you
could be around the same folks
for forty years with limited
00:08:42.65\00:08:47.19
water and the same clothes
on unless God was providing for
00:08:47.22\00:08:51.23
your progress. Are you
hearing what I am saying?

When they were hungry, God fedth
them. When they were hungry, God
00:08:52.86\00:08:57.70
gave them manna. They had
barbecued manna. They had
stir-fried manna. There are
00:08:57.73\00:09:02.44
french-fried manna. They had
baked manna. There had stewed
manna. They had jerk manna.
00:09:02.47\00:09:07.08
They had curried manna. But now,
God has brought them to a wall.
00:09:07.11\00:09:12.85
Now, Israel's leader. Joshua
does not ask the people what
they think ought to happen in
00:09:12.88\00:09:21.92
dealing with Jericho. In other
words, Joshua does not call a
00:09:21.96\00:09:28.26
board meeting. Joshua does not
call a business meeting. Joshua
does not set up a committee.
00:09:28.30\00:09:35.14
Joshua talks to God. Sometimes,
I have learned in my experience,
00:09:35.17\00:09:40.48
you cannot talk to everybody.
Sometimes you would rather to
00:09:40.51\00:09:44.85
just talk to God because having
a little talk with Jesus makes
00:09:44.88\00:09:47.72
it right. I wish I had
a witness in His place.

When I got ready to take a
stand against racism and racial
00:09:49.42\00:09:54.66
inequality and started marching
and protesting, I could not talk
00:09:54.69\00:09:59.36
to everybody. I could not call a
board meeting. I could not call
a business meeting.
00:09:59.39\00:10:03.83
I could not call an elders
meeting. I just had to talk with
00:10:03.87\00:10:07.64
God and do what God told me ‘to
do. In fact, I am going to throw
00:10:07.67\00:10:12.07
this in. Be careful during those
rough times in your life who you
00:10:12.11\00:10:16.64
talk to because you can do one
of two things. You can either
listen to or you can listen to
00:10:16.68\00:10:21.05
God. Joshua listens to God.
00:10:21.08\00:10:23.02
In verse number two, God tells
Joshua, “Joshua, I have given
00:10:23.05\00:10:28.82
unto you. I have given
unto your hand Jericho.”
00:10:28.86\00:10:33.26
Now, the walls of Jericho are in
front of the children of Israel,
00:10:33.29\00:10:37.37
but God says, “I have
given you, Joshua, the city.”
00:10:37.40\00:10:42.74
In other words, God is saying,
“It is already yours.” It is
00:10:42.77\00:10:49.48
already done. The fight is
already fixed. You do not have
to wait until the battle is
00:10:49.51\00:10:54.32
over. You can shout now.
This is the Lord's battle.
00:10:54.35\00:10:58.45
This is not a battle
between Israel and Jericho.
00:10:58.49\00:11:02.46
This is a battle between the
Almighty God and the lower case
00:11:02.49\00:11:07.96
G gods of Jericho. And because
God is Commander-in-Chief,
because God is the one in
00:11:08.00\00:11:13.97
charge, He is CEO of the
universe. You did not vote Him
in and you cannot vote Him out.
00:11:14.00\00:11:19.24
You cannot impeach Him.
He is not going to resign
00:11:19.27\00:11:21.78
because He is God and
He is Commander-in-Chief.

God tells His people the first
plan against Jericho in verse

number three. He says, “Listen,
you are going to March around
00:11:29.92\00:11:34.09
Jericho. And March around
Jericho's walls one time for
each of the next six days.”

Now, do not get it twisted.
God's plan was not an exercise
00:11:41.63\00:11:46.23
plan. Walk eight acres around
Jericho every day and you will
00:11:46.27\00:11:50.41
lose eight pounds. No, God was
not into an exercise plan. God
was not introducing a diet plan.
00:11:50.44\00:11:57.35
God is not talking about
exercise. God is not talking
00:11:57.38\00:12:01.88
about diets. God here is talking
about faith. “I know you cannot
see me, but trust me.

I know you cannot trace me, but
touch me. I know you cannot
touch me, but trust me.

You do not have to run. You do
not have to jog, but I want you
00:12:14.30\00:12:19.33
to walk. That is how you are
going to fight, you are going to
00:12:19.37\00:12:22.67
walk. That is how Jericho's
walls are going to come down,
you are going to walk.”

I wish somebody
was hearing me today.

Now, on the surface, you need to
understand that the thought of
00:12:28.18\00:12:31.35
overtaking Jericho in of itself,
seemed strange and ridiculous.
Jericho was the mighty city.
00:12:31.38\00:12:36.48
But more than that, then to
overtake Jericho without weapons
00:12:36.52\00:12:41.76
and just walking
was even more absurd.
00:12:41.79\00:12:46.73
But I have learned that it does
not make a difference what it
00:12:46.76\00:12:51.87
looks like. Whenever God gives
you a word, you better do it
00:12:51.90\00:12:56.07
because while you are trying
to figure out what God is doing,

and it may not make sense
to you, you ought to go on
00:13:00.24\00:13:04.25
and do what God is telling you
to do because God knows what He
00:13:04.28\00:13:09.48
is doing. God has been God
longer than you have been you.

God told the children of Israel
that on the first six days,

you are going to the walk around
Jericho's walls one time each
00:13:17.79\00:13:23.16
day. But then He continues the
plan in verse number four and
says, “That on the seventh day,
00:13:23.20\00:13:28.10
they were to walk
around Jericho seven times.”
00:13:28.14\00:13:31.67
There is something special about
the number seven, I wish I had
00:13:31.71\00:13:35.58
time. But then God says, “There
is some more to the plan.”
00:13:35.61\00:13:38.55
In verse number five, He says,
“Not only you are going to walk
around Jericho seven
00:13:38.58\00:13:41.98
times on the seventh day.” But
He says, “On the seventh day,
00:13:42.02\00:13:45.42
seven priests are going
to blow seven trumpets.”
00:13:45.45\00:13:49.09
And then after walking around
the city on the seventh time,
00:13:49.12\00:13:52.16
He said, “You are supposed
to shout after you have marched
00:13:52.19\00:13:58.17
seventh times, after you have
blown the seven trumpets, after
you have done this when you
00:13:58.20\00:14:04.47
shout, the walls of
Jericho go come tumbling down.”

Now, if you read Joshua Six,
very carefully you, will notice

in verses seven and nine that
God also told Israel to put
armed men before the trumpet
00:14:13.01\00:14:19.32
blowers. Read your Bible. Now,
remember God is saying, “You are
00:14:19.35\00:14:23.09
going to shout and the
wall is going to come down.”
00:14:23.12\00:14:24.46
But why does he put armed
soldiers in front of the trumpet
00:14:24.49\00:14:28.53
blowers? These are men, you need
to understand, were not going to
00:14:28.56\00:14:32.17
shoot. These are men were not
going to fight. But God says, “I
need some soldiers.
00:14:32.20\00:14:38.41
I need some soldiers who are not
ashamed. I need some soldiers
who are not scared.
00:14:38.44\00:14:43.95
I need some soldiers who
are not afraid to go before ye,”
00:14:43.98\00:14:47.42
because God does not need any
cowards. God does not need any
00:14:47.45\00:14:52.22
scared soldiers. But God needs
some soldiers who are not afraid
to go into the enemy's camp

and look the enemy dead in
the eye and say to the enemy,

“I am here and I am not going
anywhere until I get what I came
00:15:00.36\00:15:05.00
for.” Some people running around
here talking about, “Pastor
Byrd, why are you marching?

Why are you protesting?”

Because we are going to the
enemy's camp to tear Satan's
kingdom down, that is why.
00:15:10.04\00:15:14.24
We are going to tear modern
Jericho down. We are going to
tear Jericho thinking down.
00:15:14.28\00:15:19.98
We are going to tear Jericho's
systems down. We are going to
tear Jericho statutes down.
00:15:20.02\00:15:25.29
We are going to tear
Jericho's racism down.
00:15:25.32\00:15:28.92
And I am not scared.” I said, “I
am not scared.” If God be for us
who can be against us.

No weapon formed against us
is going to prosper. I am not

scared. The Lord is my light and
He is my salvation whom shall I

fear. The battle we are
fighting is a spiritual battle.

You see, it is a spiritual
battle when one race can think
they are superior than another

race. It is a spiritual
battle when you think just

because you were born
with a certain skin color,

you have rights and
privileges others cannot have.

It is a spiritual battle when
on one side of town, schools are
00:16:07.13\00:16:12.87
underfunded and schools on
another side of town are super
00:16:12.90\00:16:16.47
funded. It is a spiritual battle
when a known liar and known

witness tamperer, a known
obstructer of justice can have
his prison sentence commuted
00:16:22.98\00:16:27.28
by his friend and
never serve a day in prison.
00:16:27.32\00:16:30.95
But yet, the Central Park
Five, who were wrongly accused

and wrongly convicted in an
alleged sexual assault case can
00:16:34.26\00:16:39.59
serve six years and eight months
in the prison system for a crime
they did not commit
00:16:39.63\00:16:43.00
and law enforcement knew that
none of their DNA matched the
00:16:43.03\00:16:47.37
DNA when it was collected from
the crime scene in the first
00:16:47.40\00:16:51.47
place. It is a spiritual battle
when people think that monuments
epitomize a racist history
00:16:51.51\00:16:56.68
that they can still stand just
00:16:56.71\00:16:58.75
because they are a part of
history even if it is a bad
00:16:58.78\00:17:03.62
history. It is a spiritual
battle when a white woman who is
breaking park rules by not
00:17:03.65\00:17:09.62
putting her dog on a leash. It
is called out for her wrongdoing
00:17:09.66\00:17:13.06
by a black man, and when he does
it, she calls the police and
says this black man is
00:17:13.09\00:17:18.37
assaulting her and all he
is doing is bird-watching.
00:17:18.40\00:17:20.80
But because she knows
that because of her privileged,
00:17:20.84\00:17:23.84
the black man can be wrongfully
accused, potentially harmed,
00:17:23.87\00:17:27.44
unjustly convicted, she
does it. She calls the police.
00:17:27.48\00:17:32.78
It is a spiritual battle. And
friends of mine, it is time for
Jericho walls to come down.

Somebody said, “Pastor, why
do you keep preaching this?”

The Montgomery bus
boycott lasted three hundred and
00:17:42.06\00:17:45.86
eighty-one days. We will not
stop. We will not stop
preaching. We will not stop
00:17:45.89\00:17:51.10
marching. We will not so stop
showing demonstrations. Enough
00:17:51.13\00:17:56.47
is enough. You cannot call
yourself a Christian. You cannot
call yourself a child of God.

You cannot think you are
going to make it to God's

kingdom until some of
these walls come down.

Somebody said church
folks should not protest,

but what they do not
realize is the Christian Church,

The Seventh-Day Adventist
Christian Church started because

of protests. It was in
fifteen-seventeen where Martin
Luther nailed theses to the door

of the church in Wittenberg,
Germany protesting against the
abuses of the Roman Catholic
00:18:25.30\00:18:30.97
Church. He was protesting, and
because he was protesting, from
protesting we get Protestant.

We have the Protestant Church.
So when you say the church
should not protest,

the church was born out of
protest. We are part of the

Protestant Church. Why did the
church protest? Because walls

had to come down. But there is
one more thing I need to say,
and I am going to sit down.

Let us go back to
the children of Israel.

Let us go back to the children
of Israel walking around

Jericho's walls, blowing
trumpets around Jericho walls.
Remember, blowing trumpets was

an act of worship. You all
do not hear what I am saying.

Which is a reminder to all of us
that God moves when we worship.

I wish I had a church
in this place right now.

On the seventh day, the children
of Israel had to walk around
Jericho seven times,

seven priests had
to blow seven trumpets,

and then everybody after
the seventh time everybody was

supposed to shout. You all do
not hear what I am saying. They
were blowing trumpets

and they were
shouting in praise.

Now, remember I told you
that this battle is spiritual.

We wrestled not against flesh
and blood, but against
principalities and powers.

Against the rulers of
the darkness of this world.

Against spiritual
wickedness in high places.

And I am here to let somebody
know today that some walls have

to come down and they are going
to come down to praise and
worship. There is victory in
00:19:58.49\00:20:04.40
your praise. There is healing in
your praise. That is deliverance
00:20:04.43\00:20:09.27
in your praise. The text says
that people blew trumpets and
00:20:09.30\00:20:15.24
walls came down. Israel was
nothing more than a preacher and
choir. You all do not hear what
00:20:15.28\00:20:20.85
I am saying. They marched around
