00:06 Sermon #B629 - Get Ready for the Shutdown
00:20 PB: The word of God says. Daniel chapter 2, verse 31: You happen to mean, you say Amen. 00:24 The word says "Thou, o king sawest and behold the great 00:31 what, everybody? Come on talk to me great what, everybody? [Congregation: Image] 00:34 This great image who's brightness was excellent stood before thee and the phone 00:40 thereof was what, everybody? Now terrible means awesome. Terrible means what, everybody? 00:44 [Congregation: Awesome] Now look at verse 32, the images had was a fine what? [Congregation:Gold] 00:48 His breast and his arms were of what, everybody? [Congregation: 00:51 Sliver] His belly and his thighs were of what? Go to verse 33. His legs were of iron. 00:59 His teeth part iron and part of what? [Congregation: Lead] 01:02 Verse 34: "Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands which smoked the image 01:12 upon his feet that were of iron and clay and break them to pieces. Then was the iron, that 01:19 dot play, the brass, the silver and the gold broken to pieces to get then became like the chaff 01:24 of the summer threshing floors. And the wind carried them away that no place was found for 01:28 them. And the stone that smote the image became a great mountain and filled the whole 01:38 earth". Today I will challenge you on a subject. Get ready for the shutdown. Get ready for the 01:43 shutdown. I wish I had a witness in this place. Get ready for the shutdown. Lord you've used Central State 01:54 University choir and God we are overwhelmed that your love allowing Sister Washington to be 02:01 here but somebody needs a word from you. Disappoint us not. Fill us with your spirit, anoint 02:05 us with your grace. Lord when we leave here today we'll be able to buy you a word, to be able to 02:12 say it was good we came on this Sabbath day. Get ready for the shutdown. 02:19 For the past couple of months, the political landscape of the United States has been 02:27 distressed, disordered and disturbed. Democrats are fighting Republicans. 02:32 Republicans are fighting Democrats. The legislative branch won't appropriate funding 02:38 for the executive branch. The White House is at war with the House of Representatives. Trips 02:47 are being canceled. Speeches are being postponed. Lawmakers won't talk to each other. There's just 02:56 a war of word on Twitter. Lawmakers won't talk. Lawmakers won't reason. Lawmakers won't 03:04 compromise and what do we have? The government of the most powerful nation in the world is 03:08 shutdown. For the past 29 days, how many days everybody? [Congregation: 29] Come on how 03:17 many days everybody? 29 days, for nearly one month 800,000 workers have not received their 03:21 paychecks and they don't know if they are ever going to receive their paychecks for some of 03:27 them, including non-exempt employees and contract workers not ever going to receive their 03:31 paychecks. Yes, border protection and immigration. Air traffic control and the 03:39 Transportation Security Administration better to know to us as TSA remain open. But the 03:49 IRS, NASA, the Food and Drug Administration, Environmental Protection Agency, the EPA, 03:56 National Institute of Health, the Smithsonian, Departments of Commerce, Education, Energy, 04:01 Labor and Interior which includes all of our national parks are shutdown. 04:11 [Congregation: Yes] Shutdown began on December 21. This is the longest in United States 04:25 history is still going on and there is no end in sight. What's the issue? A 5.7 billion dollars 04:29 to build a border wall along the US-Mexican border to stop illegal immigration. And because 04:37 the monies have not been appropriated to build the wall, president has threatened to 04:43 declare a national emergency if Congress doesn't approve the 5.7 billion. Now if he declares a 04:51 national emergency for some because you don't even know what that means, he can re-purpose 04:54 military spending to build the wall without even having congressional approval. Not only 05:02 that, the administration is also exploring whether or not it could re-purpose funds for the 05:09 Army Corps of Engineers designated for hurricane disaster relief. So if we then 05:12 have a hurricane, where are the hurricane relief funds go come from. I wish somebody knew what 05:22 I was talking about. But in the midst of all this madness, the government is shutdown. People 05:26 aren't receiving pay. Now you can sit there like you know what I am talking about. But I don't 05:35 know about you but I can't afford to miss a check. Do I have a witness in this place? 05:44 People can't feed their families. Farmers can't get loans processed. Companies can't 05:50 verify workers' immigration status. Retail assistance for the elderly and the disabled is 05:57 delayed. National parks are closed. Federal civil cases and immigration court cases are 06:05 delayed. Food stamps could be out by March and TSA workers are calling in sick because they got 06:12 to get jobs somewhere else in order to make ends meet which is causing havoc at some airports. 06:21 We're in a government shutdown. But I came to tell somebody. It's not time to fear all of 06:32 what's going on is just a reminder that there's a bigger shutdown coming. In the name of 06:35 Jesus, God is going to shut this thing down. God is going to shut this mess down. So you 06:37 better tell somebody to get ready for the shutdown. Tell him get ready for the shutdown. Tell 06:44 them get ready for the shutdown. [Congregation: Get ready] this government shutdown is described 06:48 in Daniel chapter 2, where Nebuchadnezzar has had a dream. Nebuchadnezzar does not 06:54 understand the dream. Nebuchadnezzar does not comprehend the dream but God has 06:57 always somebody in the right place at the right time to accomplish his purposes. I wish 07:02 I had a church in his place. The old people used to say, grandma used to say "He may not come 07:06 when you want him, but he's always right on time." So what's going on? Nebuchadnezzar has a 07:10 dream and he doesn't know what this dream is all about. So he calls all the astrologers, all 07:15 of the magicians, all of the soothsayers and he says "Listen, I've had a dream, tell me what 07:18 this dream is all about." Well they don't know what it's all about. they don't know what to 07:22 do. They then said "Well king tell us". He says "Look, you're just stalling, you're just 07:28 stalling because you don't want to tell me. But I need to know what this dream that has given 07:34 me nightmares. This dream that does not allow me to sleep. What is this dream all about?" He 07:39 says "If you can't tell me, I'm a kill you. I'm a cut you in some pieces. All you all will be 07:44 gone. I'm a get rid of you if you can't tell me what this dream is. But on the other hand 07:50 if you can tell me what this dream is I'm gonna elevate you. Are you hearing what I'm 07:57 saying?" All the astrologers they get concerned. The astrologers, the magicians, the 08:03 soothsayers, they get all concerned. They say "Somebody call the man of God. Somebody 08:09 call the prophet of God. Somebody call brother Daniel". And we believe that Daniel can 08:19 come and tell us what this is all about. They go get Daniel and Daniel says, We've got to 08:28 figure out what this dream is all about because I don;t want to die either." Are you hearing 08:34 what I'm saying? But just in time Daniel goes to sleep. God reveals to Daniel what is 08:40 transpiring in Daniel chapter 2. Go to verse number 31 one more time. Daniel sees and dream and 08:42 God shows Daniel what's going on. Daniel says "Thou o king sawest, and behold a great" 08:47 what, everybody? [Congregation: Image] This great image's who's brightness was excellent, stood 08:57 before thee and the form thereof was what, everybody? It was what, everybody? [Congregation: 09:01 Image.] This image's head was one of fine gold. His breast, his arms is silver. His belly, 09:06 his thighs are brass. His legs are iron. His feet were part iron and part clay.
