illustrate our problem.

The story is told of
a young preacher who was

the model of health
and fitness. This preacher

was the specimen of good
health. He ran every day,

he exercised every day,
he was clearly in good shape,
00:03:07.45\00:03:10.45
but he had not
always been in good shape.

He said that a few
years earlier,  he and his
00:03:13.49\00:03:18.36
father had been
very much overweight.

Between the hectic schedule
the preacher had of pastoring,

the hectic schedule of
going to school while he was
00:03:25.63\00:03:28.80
pastoring early in his
life, he was engaging in a
00:03:28.84\00:03:32.34
couch-potato lifestyle,
and had a regular diet of

convenient fast foods.
 Does anybody know what

I'm talking about?  I'm
preaching to myself now.

One day, he's in the
hospital with his father,

because his father
had had a heart attack.

His father was hanging
onto this life in intensive
00:03:50.43\00:03:53.26
care at the local
hospital, and the young preacher
00:03:53.29\00:03:55.86
sat beside his father
and he cried and he prayed,

Lord, heal my dad,
please.  Heal my father.

The doctor, the
cardiologist, came in and spoke

to him and he said that
the young preacher's father's

diet and subsequent
weight gain had put a

significant strain on
his heart, leading to the
00:04:13.15\00:04:16.69
father's heart attack. 
The doctor told the young
00:04:16.72\00:04:20.39
preacher that he was
heading down the same road.
00:04:20.42\00:04:25.93
The young preacher
acknowledged to the doctor,

he said, yeah, Mr.
Doctor, I got an eating problem.

The doctor said, no, sir, you
don't have an eating problem,

you have a sin problem. 
The doctor's response changed

the young preacher's life,
and the young preacher said

he realized at that moment
that he had been minimizing
00:04:45.45\00:04:48.22
his poor stewardship of his
temple for years and that he
00:04:48.25\00:04:51.75
needed somebody to call
it just like it was.  Sin.

Because First
Corinthians, 10:31 says,

whether therefore ye eat
or drink or whatsoever you do,

do all to the glory of God.
Now, we don't like to preach

about it much, but you
see friends, it takes your

everything to serve
Lord. Overeating and gluttony

are one of those sins
that we assume other people are

guilty of and not us. 
It's one of those deceptive sins

because it's always easy
to find somebody else in worse

physical condition than we
are and so we assume we don't

have a problem in this
area. Now, while it might not

be a sin you or I, that
we commit on a regular basis,

is a sin that many of us
have committed in the past.

Because in a world of
sugary soft drinks, in a world

of super-size burgers, in
a world of all-you-can-eat

buffets, it may be a sin we
commit this week.  Don't act

like you don't know what I'm
talking about.  It may be a sin

some of you commit tonight. 
Some of us literally keep Golden

Corral in business.  Do I
have a witness in this place?

glutton, a glutton is the person

gluttony is, one habitually

Health-care costs

right now. Health care.

Health care has been,
dominated the headlines

Fighting on Capitol
Hill about health care.

These days everybody
is talking about health.

everybody wants to live.

Nobody wants to die. 
So, what do people say

we ought to do? 
Exercise. People are more

concerned about their
health than ever before.

Fitness rooms are
everywhere. People exercise.

People are now going to
the grocery store, Walmart,

they're looking at labels.

Forty million people
belong to 26,000 health

clubs here in the United States.

Nothing in recent years
seems to have improved the

health of people as
much as the increasing cost

of being sick.  But by
the time most of us discover

that good health is
everything, we've lost it.

We suffer not from
poor health, many of us,

not because of what we

It wasn't just preaching,

known to man.  Physical, He

healed it. Social, He healed

Emotional, He healed

ophthalmologist, the blind

minute He's a cardiologist,
He's fixing broken hearts.

One minute He's a dermatologist.
Lepers are being healed.

But the next minute He's a
gynecologist.  He's giving new

life. One minute He's a
psychiatrist. He's fixing

deranged minds. But the next
minute He's an anesthesiologist.

He's healing and easing
the pains of life because all

amount of sickness and
disease were healed by Jesus.

Jesus knows what's best for us.

Alcohol kills 3.3 million
people worldwide each year.

According to the World
Health Organization, including

drunk driving, alcohol-induced
abuse and violence and

a multitude of diseases
and disorders, alcohol causes

year.  Alcohol is responsible

for one death every 10 seconds.
It is linked to more than

200 health conditions,
including cirrhosis of the liver

and some cancers.  Alcohol
abuse also makes people more

susceptible to other infectious
diseases.  Tuberculosis,

that's TB, HIV, pneumonia,
