00:31 BREATH OF LIFE MINISTRIES PRESENTS
00:40 B549 "THERE'S POWER IN THE BLOOD"
00:46 [BREATH OF LIFE THEME MUSIC]
00:51 PB: If you will, take your bibles to the book of
00:54 Matthew, chapter 26. Chapter 26, and we're going to
01:02 go to the 26th verse. Matthew 26, verse 26.
01:07 Just three short verses: 26, 27, and 28.
01:17 The Word says, "And as they were eating, Jesus took bread,
01:24 and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples,
01:28 and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup,
01:36 and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it.
01:41 " Verse 28, "For this is my blood of the new testament,
01:47 which is shed for many for the remission of sins."
01:55 There's power in the blood. For the next couple of minutes, O God,
02:05 remind us of the power, the wonder-working, overcoming,
02:10 conquering power of Your blood. In Jesus' name. Amen.
02:19 As you all know, I grew up in the church.
02:33 You cannot out-church me. I grew up in the church.
02:48 We were in someone's home, the pastors and I,
02:52 and a hymn was called. And one of the pastors,
02:57 who I will leave nameless, said, "I don't know that hymn."
03:02 And another pastor said, "Well, you know who knows all the hymns."
03:08 And everyone began to look at me. I grew up in the church.
03:16 I grew up singing songs. I grew up hearing sermons.
03:26 I grew up reciting--and notice the word "reciting"
03:32 and not reading--I grew up reciting memory verses.
03:36 Back in those days, the entire class--it didn't matter
03:42 who was called on--could stand and recite all
03:45 13 memory verses for the quarter. I grew up in
03:53 evangelistic meetings. I grew up watching church
04:00 business meetings. I grew up in the church.
04:07 But you can grow up in the church, and there can
04:15 be some things in the church that you don't know or
04:21 don't understand or don't get. You can hear them,
04:27 you can see them, but you really don't understand them.
04:35 When growing up as a little boy in the church,
04:40 I remember distinctly that people were always talking
04:47 about the blood. The blood this, the blood that.
04:54 And for me, I found it to be very strange that they
05:00 were always talking about the blood, because I never
05:04 saw any blood. I never witnessed any blood.
05:10 I never glimpsed or glanced at blood.
05:15 But the people were always talking about, shouting about,
05:21 crying about, and saying amen about the blood.
05:28 Once ever quarter, the ladies would parade down in white.
05:36 The men would parade down in black suits, white shirts
05:42 and white ties on. The preacher, who was my father,
05:47 would stand over the Communion table, and he would get
05:52 excited when he would talk about the blood.
05:57 The choir would sing songs like "I Know It Was the Blood,"
06:02 but all of a sudden there would be a dear old sister in the corner,
06:07 and she would begin to shout, and we all thought something
06:10 was wrong with her. But then, on the other side there was this old,
06:15 little short man, who would then begin to shake like this
06:18 and walk down the aisles and clap his hands, and I would sit
06:22 there wondering, what is it with the blood? I didn't see any blood.
06:29 Nobody was bleeding. So what then was the big deal about the blood?
06:36 But now that I've gotten a little older, now that I've got some
06:42 battle scars in my life, now that I've gone through some things in life,
06:48 I better understand the blood. I better understand why some
06:54 people shout about the blood. I better understand why some people
06:59 cry about the blood. I better understand why some people clap
07:03 their hands when they talk about the blood, because blood signifies life.
07:07 Jesus is the life-giver and you ought to get excited when we
07:12 talk about life in Jesus because of the blood.
07:16 The blood saved me. The blood rescued me. The blood re deemed me.
07:23 The blood washed me. You see, if it weren't for the blood,
07:29 you and I wouldn't be here today. If it weren't for the blood
07:33 somebody would be strung out somewhere. If it weren't for the blood,
07:38 somebody would be on the streets somewhere. If it weren't for the blood,
07:42 I can't even tell you what some of us would be doing right now.
07:46 But the truth of the matter today is simply this: You can shout
07:52 on the blood today, because one day when I was lost,
07:57 He died upon the cross, and I know that I know that I know
08:02 it was the blood for me. In the text, Jesus has gathered
08:09 His disciples together for the Last Supper, and as the disciples
08:13 have gathered around Him, He holds up a little cup, and He begins
08:17 to explain that His blood is sufficient. That His blood forgives
08:22 us from all of our sins. He says, we read it in the text,
08:26 "For this is my blood of the new testament which is shed for many,
08:30 for the remission [or forgiveness] of sins." In other words,
08:34 whereas the blood of goats and bulls and sheep and lambs for
08:38 4,000 years was used to cleanse man of his sins, the blood of
08:42 Jesus now takes away the sins of the world. And just like you
08:47 can't survive without physical blood, you can't survive
08:51 without Jesus' blood. [Aud. reaction]
08:53 PB: Any doctor will tell you that in the physical,
08:56 blood is our life source. Without blood flowing in your veins,
09:01 life will cease in your body. The doctor will tell
09:05 you there are no viable substitutes for the blood.
09:09 In order to have life, you must have blood.
09:13 Blood is important, any biologist will tell you,
09:16 because it's what carries the necessary nutrients-
09:18 -water and oxygen--to the cells in your body.
09:20 Blood is important because blood contains cells
09:24 important in mounting an immune response in the
09:27 event that you get an infection. Blood is important
09:30 because blood carries waste away from different
09:33 parts of your body to our livers and kidneys.
09:36 Our organs need energy, our organs need oxygen,
09:40 and blood is the delivering mechanism to get the
09:43 energy and oxygen to them. If part of your body
09:47 doesn't get blood, if blood doesn't flow,
09:52 your body stops working. So when you're young,
09:56 blood must flow. When you're old, blood must flow.
10:01 When you're asleep, blood must flow. When you are awake,
10:06 blood must flow. When you're exercising, blood must flow.
10:12 When you're sitting down, blood must flow.
10:15 When you're talking, blood must flow. When you're quiet,
10:19 blood must flow. When you're eating, blood must flow.
10:24 When you're drinking, blood must flow.
10:27 When you're watching TV, blood must flow.
10:31 When you're surfing the Internet, blood must flow.
10:34 Whenever, whomever, however, and to whomever,
10:37 your blood must flow. Because when blood doesn't flow,
10:42 you have a blood clot. In the physical, blood gives life,
10:49 but in the spiritual, Jesus' blood has the power to give life.
10:55 But it must flow. It can't clot. And every time I take the cup,
11:04 every time I participate in Communion, I'm given new life.
11:11 And that's why--I now learned and now know--that people back
11:17 in the day, why they would shout on the blood.
11:22 That's why people would clap on the blood.
11:26 That's why people would say amen and get excited
11:29 about the blood, because blood is life. Life is blood.
11:33 Jesus shed His blood. Jesus' life, Jesus gave life,
11:37 Jesus gave life and death, and by giving life and death,
11:40 Jesus brought life. [Aud. reaction]
11:44 PB: You see, friends, the Romans made one critical
11:51 mistake when they crucified Jesus. They made one mistake.
11:58 What was it, Pastor? The Romans shed His blood.
12:06 [Aud. reaction] PB: They should have hung Him.
12:13 They should have knocked Him out. They should have
12:19 beaten Him to a pulp. They should have stoned Him.
12:24 They should have made Him drink poison.
12:27 But when they shed His blood, His blood flowed and
12:34 had a revival over death, hell, and the grave.
12:41 [Aud. reaction] PB: His blood flowed down,
12:44 and salvation conquered our sin. His blood flowed down,
12:50 and Satan was defeated. His blood flowed down,
12:55 and eternal life was made possible for you and me.
12:59 Life is in the blood. And so when you come on Communion Sabbath,
13:05 and when you think ab out the mistakes you have made,
13:10 when you think about the sins you have committed,
13:12 when you think about the foolishness that you've done
13:15 and the fact that you're still here, it ought to tell
13:19 you that there's power in the blood. When you think
13:25 about where you should have been, or where you could
13:28 have been, there's power in the blood. Thank God for the blood!
13:34 Praise God for the blood! The blood that Jesus shed for me.
13:40 Way back on Calvary, the blood that gives me strength
13:45 from day to day. It will never lose its power.
13:51 Let me confess, I'm a Christian. I said, I'm a Christian.
14:00 Specifically, I'm a Seventh-day Adventist Christian.
14:04 And notice I said Christian first, because some people
14:07 are Seventh-day Adventists but they're not Christians.
14:09 I wish I had a witness in this place. [Aud. reaction]
14:15 PB: There are some people that I come in contact with
14:18 who say they don't like Christianity, because Christianity
14:24 is a bloody religion. So they want a dry religion.
14:30 They want Islam. They want Buddhism. They want Hinduism.
14:37 They want Judaism. They want Sikhism. They want Confucianism.
14:41 Why? They don't want the blood. But today I speak under
14:46 the authority of the Holy Ghost-- [Aud. reaction]
14:49 PB: --I want Jesus. I want the Christ. More about Jesus.
15:00 I don't want Muhammad, I don't want Buddha, I don't want Brahmans,
15:08 I don't want Confucius. I want Jesus!
15:14 [Aud. reaction] PB: I want a bloody religion.
15:17 What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
15:22 What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
15:27 Thank God for the shed blood of Jesus. Without the blood,
15:32 there's no forgiveness from sin. Without the blood,
15:35 your sins can't be washed away. Without the blood,
15:38 there is no hope. It wasn't the broken body that brought
15:42 me my salvation. It wasn't the stripes at Pilate's judgment
15:50 hall that brought me my salvation. It's wasn't even the cross itself.
15:56 Because think about it, you all are smart people.
15:59 If a literal cross could save me, then anybody would have died on it.
16:05 If stripes could save me, any prisoner could have endured them.
16:12 If a broken body could have saved me, I could claim an accident
16:19 victim as my Savior. If any of these things could save me,
16:25 I could save myself and take glory in my sacrifice.
16:32 But it was anyone of these things. It was the blood of a
16:37 perfect sacrifice. It was the blood of the Lamb of God.
16:42 It was the blood of Jesus that saves me, and nothing
16:47 and nobody else can do it. And so, I need to sit down now.
16:53 We're on a time schedule. But I believe my soul's getting
16:58 happy right about now. I know we need to move on,
17:02 but my soul is happy right now. I thank God that He paid
17:07 the price for me to be here today, and I'm sorry if I
17:12 get loud sometimes. I'm sorry if stomp this foot sometimes.
17:17 I'm sorry if I beat this desk sometimes, but you don't
17:20 know like I know what He's done for me! Jesus paid it all.
17:28 All to Him I owe. And when we sing that song, why do we sing it?
17:33 We sing that hymn because what we're saying is, we had a debt
17:37 that was so high that every time I look around, every time I
17:42 realize how messed up I am, every time I look back over my
17:48 life and I realize my wretched condition--but the fact is,
17:53 Jesus loved me so much that He came and paid a price for my sins.
17:59 He shed His blood. His blood was the price for my sins.
18:03 Listen. I tell you all the time, I cannot explain how a
18:08 brown cow eats green grass and gives white milk.
18:13 Just like I can't explain how this black-skinned man
18:17 can be dipped in red blood and come out white as snow.
18:22 But all I can tell you is that there's power in the blood!
18:28 [Aud. reaction] PB: And when I think of the goodness of
18:31 Jesus and all He's done for me, my soul cries out.
18:36 Hallelujah! Thank God for saving me.
18:40 Because of His blood, heaven can be your home.
18:46 Because of His blood, heaven can be my home.
18:52 I don't care what you did last night.
18:54 I don't even care what you did last week.
18:59 I don't care what you did last year.
19:02 But if you've been washed in the blood,
19:05 you can repent of your sins. You open up your heart
19:11 and let the Holy Ghost in. That's the way to salvation.
19:16 There is therefore now no condemnation to those
19:20 who are in Jesus Christ. And so, because of the blood,
19:24 I look forward to Jesus' second coming. Because of the blood,
19:30 I can have life everlasting. Because of the blood,
19:32 I can live forever with Jesus. Because O, I want to see Him.
19:37 Look upon His face. There to sing forever of His saving grace.
19:50 On those streets of glory I plan to lift my voice. Cares all past.
20:01 Home at last. Ever to rejoice. Jesus said, For this is the blood
20:17 of the new testament which is shed for many for the remission,
20:25 or forgiveness, of sin. Today, there's power in the blood.
20:34 Today, have you come to be forgiven? Have you come for
20:42 your sins to be washed away? Today, have you come to be clean?
20:50 If you have, today you've come to the right place.
21:00 Down at the c ross, where my Savior died. Down where
21:10 for cleansing from sin I cried. There to my heart
21:19 was the blood applied. Glory to His name!
21:33 The blood that Jesus shed for me, way back on Calvary.
21:43 The blood, it gives me strength. It's what keeps me going
21:51 from day to day. It will never lose its power.
22:02 I don't care how bad you think you are.
22:05 I don't care how good you think you are.
22:09 If it weren't for the blood, where would we be.
22:21 Father, today, I'm glad to know there's power in Your blood.
22:31 Forty years ago, I didn't know what all this blood meant,
22:36 but I'm so glad I understand that blood is life.
22:42 Life is in the blood. And that Jesus shed His blood
22:48 that we might today have life. So God, as we engage
22:55 in this most sacred service, as we reflect upon the
23:01 awesome sacrifice of Jesus, as, O God, we have come
23:09 today to be washed and cleansed from sin,
23:16 do just that for us. We pray this prayer in
23:22 the name of the Father, the Son, Jesus the Christ,
23:27 and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
23:32 [song]
23:41 Down at the cross where my Savior died,
23:43 Down where for cleaning from sin I cried,
23:57 There to my heart was the blood applied,
24:08 Singing, glory to His name!
24:18 PB: Glory to His name, everybody now.
24:21 Glory to His name, precious name,
24:31 Singing, glory to His name,
24:41 O, there to my heart was the blood applied;
24:54 Singing, glory to His name!
25:03 PB: Lift that, I am so wondrously saved from sin.
25:07 I am so wondrously saved from sin,
25:18 PB: Jesus so sweetly abides within.
25:22 Jesus so sweetly abides within,
25:30 PB: Plunge in today. Plunge in today,
25:35 PB: And be made complete. And be made complete.
25:42 Singing, glory to His name.
25:50 PB: Glory to His name. Everybody now.
25:55 Glory to His name, precious name,
26:05 Singing, glory to His name,
26:14 O, there to my heart was the blood applied,
26:28 Singing, glory to His name.
26:42 [music]
27:15 >: I will read here in First Corinthians, chapter 11,
27:22 verses 23 through 26. "For I have received of the Lord
27:30 that which I also delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus
27:36 the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
27:40 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said,
27:46 Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you:
27:54 this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also --
