Breath Of Life ministries Presents 00:00:02.06\00:00:06.17 Sermo B545 "Alternative facts" 00:00:06.20\00:00:12.21 [Breath of life theme music] 00:00:12.24\00:00:20.15 PB: John 7:40. If you have it, let me hear you say amen. 00:00:20.18\00:00:23.95 Aud.: Amen. PB: The Word says, "Many of the 00:00:23.99\00:00:26.89 people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, 00:00:26.92\00:00:30.39 Of a truth this is the Prophet. [But] others said, 00:00:30.43\00:00:39.63 This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ 00:00:39.67\00:00:46.98 come out of Galilee? Hath not the scripture said, 00:00:47.01\00:00:51.88 That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out 00:00:51.91\00:00:54.22 of the town of Bethlehem, where David was? 00:00:54.25\00:00:56.92 So there was a division." There was a what, everybody? 00:00:56.95\00:01:01.59 Aud.: Division. PB: "Among the people because of him. 00:01:01.62\00:01:05.09 And some of them would have taken him; 00:01:05.13\00:01:10.20 but no man laid hands on him." 00:01:10.23\00:01:17.27 Today I want to talk to you--not too long, 00:01:17.31\00:01:20.74 today--but I want to talk to you today about alternative facts. 00:01:20.78\00:01:26.48 [Aud. reaction] PB: Father, we ask that You bless us. 00:01:26.51\00:01:34.52 Speak through me to speak to Your people. 00:01:34.56\00:01:39.49 We give You the praise, the honor and the 00:01:39.53\00:01:42.80 glory right now even before we go into this Word. 00:01:42.83\00:01:44.80 In Jesus' name, amen. Aud.: Amen. 00:01:44.83\00:01:47.87 PB: Alternative facts. Does somebody know what I'm 00:01:47.90\00:01:50.77 talking about today? [Aud. reaction] 00:01:50.81\00:01:57.28 PB: I learned a new phrase this week. Alternative facts, 00:01:57.31\00:02:09.39 brother Lang. Ha ha ha. Before this week, 00:02:09.42\00:02:13.70 I had never heard of this before. It had never crossed my 00:02:13.73\00:02:20.67 mind. You see, I grew up in a home, in a culture, 00:02:20.70\00:02:24.24 in an environment where statements were either 00:02:24.27\00:02:27.01 true or false. I wish I had a church in this place today. 00:02:27.04\00:02:33.65 [Aud. reaction] PB: I grew up in a home where it 00:02:33.68\00:02:36.82 was either right or wrong, fact or fiction, truth or error. 00:02:36.85\00:02:47.00 I had never heard of alternative facts. I grew up 00:02:47.03\00:02:55.30 learning that a fact was a fact, a piece of information 00:02:55.34\00:03:02.24 that is objective reality. A fact is something that 00:03:02.28\00:03:05.78 is indisputably the case. Dr. McDonald, you can't 00:03:05.81\00:03:10.85 dispute a fact because a fact is a fact. I mean, 00:03:10.89\00:03:19.79 let's be honest. When you look at picture A and see 00:03:19.83\00:03:27.14 10 people in it, and you look at picture B and you 00:03:27.17\00:03:34.48 see 5 people in it, the fact is there are double 00:03:34.51\00:03:41.18 the number of people in picture A than there are 00:03:41.22\00:03:46.09 in picture B, and that's a fact. [Aud. reaction] 00:03:46.12\00:03:51.33 PB: When you say the carpet is blue, 00:03:51.36\00:03:57.77 but we're looking at the carpet, and the carpet 00:03:57.80\00:04:01.74 is really red, I don't care how much you try to 00:04:01.77\00:04:06.11 make the carpet blue, the carpet is red, 00:04:06.14\00:04:10.51 because a fact is a fact. So this is me to Christyn, 00:04:10.55\00:04:20.32 my daughter: "Christyn, is your room clean?" Christyn: 00:04:20.36\00:04:28.76 "Yes, Daddy, my room is clean." "Christyn, is your bed made up?" 00:04:28.80\00:04:36.24 "Yes, Daddy, my bed is made up." "Christyn, are your clothes put 00:04:36.27\00:04:44.71 up?" "No, Daddy, my clothes aren't put up." "Christyn, are your shoes lined up?" 00:04:44.75\00:04:54.49 "No, Daddy, my shoes aren't lined up." "Christyn, again, 00:04:54.52\00:05:01.36 is then your room clean?" "Yes, Daddy, my room is clean." 00:05:01.40\00:05:09.10 "Well, how can your room be clean if your bed isn't made up, 00:05:09.14\00:05:13.27 your clothes aren't put up, and your shoes aren't lined up?" 00:05:13.31\00:05:19.71 "Daddy, it's alternative facts." [Aud. reaction] 00:05:19.75\00:05:26.22 PB: No, it's a lie. [Aud. reaction] 00:05:26.25\00:05:30.89 PB: Get in there and clean up your room. Do I have a witness 00:05:30.93\00:05:37.23 in this place? [Aud. reaction] PB: There is no such thing as an alternative fact, 00:05:37.27\00:05:43.57 because anything alternative to a fact is not a fact. You see, 00:05:43.61\00:05:50.18 when you know what you're saying is wrong but 00:05:50.21\00:05:53.38 you're going to present it as your version of 00:05:53.42\00:05:55.85 right anyway, even when it's contrary to firsthand 00:05:55.88\00:06:00.36 accounts, photographic evidence, reputable reporting services, 00:06:00.39\00:06:05.96 and verifiable numbers, it's not an alternative fact. It's a lie. 00:06:05.99\00:06:12.10 The opposite of a fact is a lie. Using lies in an attempt 00:06:12.13\00:06:18.34 to change the truth, when the actual truth doesn't conform 00:06:18.37\00:06:21.64 to the narrative you want to tell, because it's not in 00:06:21.68\00:06:24.35 your best interests, is not an alternative fact. It's a lie. 00:06:24.38\00:06:27.88 And when truth is so unfavorable to a pathological liar 00:06:27.92\00:06:32.49 that they must invent a whole category of new lies to 00:06:32.52\00:06:38.83 describe their intentional acts of deception, 00:06:38.86\00:06:41.63 you'd better run from that person. [Aud. reaction] 00:06:41.66\00:06:44.10 PB: That person is dangerous. Lying lips are an abomination 00:06:44.13\00:06:50.04 to the Lord. A fact is a fact. A lie is a lie. 00:06:50.07\00:06:57.08 There is no in between. Either you're telling the 00:06:57.11\00:07:01.65 truth or you're telling a lie. Either you're right 00:07:01.68\00:07:05.09 or you're wrong. Either fact or fiction. You're either 00:07:05.12\00:07:09.29 in the river or on the bank. Do I have a witness in this place? 00:07:09.32\00:07:14.73 [Aud. reaction] PB: Now that we've established 00:07:14.73\00:07:16.26 that alternative facts aren't true, go to the text. 00:07:16.30\00:07:19.30 Jesus has gone to the Feast of Tabernacles in Judea. 00:07:19.33\00:07:23.77 He doesn't really want to go, and it took Him a while 00:07:23.81\00:07:25.81 to get there, because He knows the Jews are out to kill Him. 00:07:25.84\00:07:28.38 But He goes anyway, and He tries to keep a low profile 00:07:28.41\00:07:31.41 of His going. At the Feast of Tabernacles you've got 00:07:31.45\00:07:34.22 two groups there. You've got one group who says He's 00:07:34.25\00:07:37.42 a good man. You've got another group who says He's 00:07:37.45\00:07:40.72 deceiving people. A debate ensues about who Jesus is. 00:07:40.76\00:07:45.59 Is He a prophet? Is He not? Is He the Christ? Is He not? 00:07:45.63\00:07:50.43 What do the facts say? You see, the Christ was supposed 00:07:50.47\00:07:54.87 to come out of the seed of David, out of the town of 00:07:54.90\00:07:57.07 Bethlehem. But Jesus came out of Nazareth, and can any good thing 00:07:57.11\00:08:00.04 come out of Nazareth, which was Galilee? So we have 00:08:00.08\00:08:03.08 two groups of people, friends. One group believes that 00:08:03.11\00:08:05.45 Jesus is the Christ. They believe He's the Messiah, 00:08:05.48\00:08:08.05 God's anointed One. They believe His ministry had been 00:08:08.08\00:08:10.95 anointed at His baptism. When the Son of God went down 00:08:10.99\00:08:14.39 into the water, the Father said, "This is my beloved Son 00:08:14.42\00:08:17.49 in whom I am well pleased," and then the Holy Spirit anointed 00:08:17.53\00:08:20.96 Jesus' ministry in descending in the form of a dove. This group 00:08:20.96\00:08:24.40 believed Jesus was the Christ, but the other group denied 00:08:24.43\00:08:27.50 that Jesus was Christ, because the Messiah wasn't 00:08:27.54\00:08:30.67 supposed to come from Galilee. So because Jesus is 00:08:30.71\00:08:34.44 from Galilee, Jesus then couldn't be the Messiah. 00:08:34.48\00:08:37.21 This group ignored many miracles of Jesus, 00:08:37.25\00:08:40.35 some of which they had no doubt seen with their own eyes. 00:08:40.38\00:08:44.52 This group dismissed Jesus' powerful teaching, 00:08:44.55\00:08:47.79 which even the arresting officers had to admit 00:08:47.82\00:08:50.56 that never before had a man spoken like this man spake. 00:08:50.59\00:08:54.10 This group shrugged off Jesus' astounding claims 00:08:54.10\00:08:58.10 such as the one He had just issued in John 7:37 and 38, 00:08:58.13\00:09:02.77 to be able to give rivers of living waters to all who 00:09:02.80\00:09:05.24 believed in Him. Jesus, they felt, couldn't be the Messiah. 00:09:05.27\00:09:10.61 He couldn't be the Christ. He couldn't be God. He was just a 00:09:10.65\00:09:18.09 good man. So they tried to give some alternative facts. They 00:09:18.12\00:09:23.63 weren't interested in believing in Jesus. If they had been 00:09:23.66\00:09:25.96 interested, they would have cleared the question up of His origins very early. 00:09:25.99\00:09:30.00 But they didn't want to believe, they just wanted a 00:09:30.03\00:09:32.43 comfortable excuse to red-tag Jesus. I've learned in my life, 00:09:32.47\00:09:36.81 some people don't want to believe. Some people don't want 00:09:36.84\00:09:42.34 the facts. Some folk don't want the truth. Some folk can't 00:09:42.38\00:09:47.62 handle the truth. The text says they would have killed Jesus if 00:09:47.65\00:09:53.66 they could have, but they couldn't lay their hands on Him. 00:09:53.69\00:09:56.59 Because God still is sovereign over His enemies. Let me tell 00:09:56.62\00:10:01.36 you something and remind you that God's got your back. [Aud. 00:10:01.40\00:10:03.97 reaction] PB: Fret not thy self because of evildoers; neither 00:10:04.00\00:10:07.60 be thou envious of the workers of iniquity. God will 00:10:07.64\00:10:10.27 cut them down like the grass. I have seen God cut some 00:10:10.31\00:10:14.48 folk down in my day. God's got your back. But just like 00:10:14.51\00:10:19.65 the critics of old, I'm finding today in my conversations 00:10:19.68\00:10:23.82 in the community, across this land, that there are many 00:10:23.85\00:10:27.42 liberal theologians today who come up with all sorts of 00:10:27.46\00:10:30.26 reasons why Jesus couldn't have done the miracles that 00:10:30.29\00:10:32.79 the eyewitness accounts of the New Testament attribute to Him. 00:10:32.83\00:10:36.40 They have alternative facts. They argue. Miracles contradict 00:10:36.43\00:10:41.74 modern science. Miracles don't make sense. They believe 00:10:41.77\00:10:47.64 miracles aren't possible, so then the miracles of Jesus 00:10:47.68\00:10:51.38 could not have happened. But then, that goes against what 00:10:51.41\00:10:56.15 a miracle is. Because a miracle is a surprising and welcoming 00:10:56.18\00:11:01.22 event that is not explainable by natural or scientific 00:11:01.26\00:11:05.96 laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a 00:11:05.99\00:11:08.00 divine agency. That's a miracle. So let me be real. 00:11:08.03\00:11:12.80 I don't care how scientific we get. I don't care how 00:11:12.83\00:11:16.60 deep we get. I don't care how much we parse Greek 00:11:16.64\00:11:20.04 in the New Testament. I can't explain to you how 00:11:20.08\00:11:24.85 an old man with nothing but a stick and a stutter 00:11:24.88\00:11:30.95 could stretch forth his rod and a mighty sea part, 00:11:30.99\00:11:36.62 enabling people to walk upon dry land. But I do know, 00:11:36.66\00:11:40.76 that's a miracle. I can't explain how a donkey can be 00:11:40.80\00:11:45.97 walking down a street and all of a sudden the donkey stops, 00:11:46.00\00:11:49.84 and he starts talking to its owner. All I can tell you is, 00:11:49.87\00:11:53.94 that's a miracle. I can't explain how a furnace can be 00:11:53.98\00:11:59.01 raging with fire, but three men can stand in this 00:11:59.05\00:12:02.92 same furnace, and only the ropes burn, and they make 00:12:02.95\00:12:07.82 it out alive. That's a miracle. I can't explain to you 00:12:07.86\00:12:12.53 how lions can lie down like house dogs, play with each 00:12:12.56\00:12:17.37 other and then look at a human. They don't eat the human, 00:12:17.40\00:12:20.14 they don't scratch the human or maul the human. That's a 00:12:20.17\00:12:24.61 miracle. I can't explain how water can be turned into wine. 00:12:24.64\00:12:28.98 How a woman can touch the hem of somebody's garment, 00:12:29.01\00:12:31.35 and she find more medicine in that garment than from 00:12:31.38\00:12:33.35 any doctor anywhere. I can't tell you how somebody can 00:12:33.38\00:12:38.09 be dead and then Jesus can just speak a word and they 00:12:38.12\00:12:40.52 can come to life again. I can't tell you how people have 00:12:40.56\00:12:45.26 stage 4 cancer. The doctors have given up on them to die, 00:12:45.29\00:12:49.86 but yet today they're alive and well. Students, 00:12:49.90\00:12:53.20 I can't tell you how your balance was seven thousand 00:12:53.23\00:12:57.57 dollars. Seven thousand dollars on Monday, but then on Friday 00:12:57.61\00:13:01.48 you've been financially cleared. That's-- 00:13:01.51\00:13:04.61 [Aud. reaction] PB: --a miracle. And I still 00:13:04.65\00:13:09.65 believe in miracles. I still believe in a God who 00:13:09.68\00:13:16.59 can see what I can't see. I still believe in a God 00:13:16.62\00:13:20.53 who can say what I can't say, who can go where 00:13:20.56\00:13:24.00 I can't go, who can reach what I can't reach. 00:13:24.03\00:13:27.30 I still believe in God. But in the world in 00:13:27.34\00:13:31.91 which we live today, there are many people who 00:13:31.94\00:13:33.88 think highly of Jesus and His teaching, but they 00:13:33.91\00:13:36.41 don't believe He's God. Alternative facts. 00:13:36.44\00:13:40.32 In fact, there's a movement on the rise, 00:13:40.35\00:13:42.98 if you study carefully, that questions the 00:13:43.02\00:13:44.85 authenticity of Jesus. They doubt the legitimacy 00:13:44.89\00:13:47.82 of Jesus. They doubt the validity of Jesus. 00:13:47.86\00:13:49.92 They disbelieve the genuineness of Jesus. 00:13:49.96\00:13:52.26 They question the realism of Jesus. They 00:13:52.29\00:13:54.56 are subscribing to alternative facts. 00:13:54.56\00:13:58.17 Was Jesus God? Was He the Messianic Savior 00:13:58.20\00:14:03.04 who came to this earth to rescue His people, 00:14:03.07\00:14:05.41 or was He just an important figure in earth's 00:14:05.44\00:14:08.18 history, but one who was not nor claimed to be 00:14:08.21\00:14:10.25 the divine Messiah. Did Jesus really perform a 00:14:10.28\00:14:14.45 work on the cross that brought about my salvation? 00:14:14.48\00:14:17.75 Or was He just a dedicated religious person who was 00:14:17.79\00:14:20.72 actively involved in the social and spiritual world 00:14:20.76\00:14:23.32 of His day, but who never performed or offered the 00:14:23.36\00:14:26.23 unique and solitary means of salvation for the 00:14:26.26\00:14:28.60 entire human race? Is Jesus the only way to salvation, 00:14:28.63\00:14:35.07 and is He really a member of the triune God: 00:14:35.10\00:14:39.04 The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost? Or is 00:14:39.07\00:14:43.78 Jesus just among one of many ways by which a 00:14:43.81\00:14:47.22 postmodern person can come to know and experience God, 00:14:47.25\00:14:50.75 but who has never accepted or advocated the worship 00:14:50.79\00:14:53.42 of God Himself as Jesus Christ in the flesh. 00:14:53.46\00:14:57.33 Was Jesus the really only begotten of the Father? 00:14:57.36\00:15:03.37 So these questions come from a heretical brand of naysayers, 00:15:03.40\00:15:06.80 doubters, rebel rousers, modern-day haters of Jesus who 00:15:06.84\00:15:10.17 are confusing Christianity, dividing our churches, 00:15:10.21\00:15:13.48 bamboozling our children, and presenting alternative facts. 00:15:13.51\00:15:17.95 In case you didn't know: Jesus is under fire in the 00:15:17.98\00:15:26.05 public eye. Atheism is on the rise. Agnosticism is 00:15:26.09\00:15:31.96 on the rise. Scholars who have subjected Jesus to 00:15:31.99\00:15:35.56 scrutiny in their private studies and disclosed their 00:15:35.60\00:15:38.50 conclusions in close academic circles are now waging 00:15:38.53\00:15:41.17 their battle through the public, printed, and social media. 00:15:41.20\00:15:44.81 We come here, and we think everybody believes like we do. 00:15:44.84\00:15:47.48 You've got a whole lot of folk that don't even 00:15:47.51\00:15:48.84 believe in Jesus, that don't even believe in God. 00:15:48.88\00:15:52.25 Let me remind you today that everything on the 00:15:52.28\00:15:55.08 Internet is not true. Not everything you hear is correct. 00:15:55.12\00:15:59.09 Mama said, "Believe none of what you hear and 00:15:59.12\00:16:01.16 half of what you see." Jesus understands. 00:16:01.19\00:16:04.09 He predicted this future. We knew that the 00:16:04.13\00:16:08.30 devil was a lie. Don't believe the alternative facts. 00:16:08.33\00:16:11.07 So today, I'm going to give you two facts and 00:16:11.10\00:16:12.83 then I'm going to sit down. John 7:40 and 41, 00:16:12.87\00:16:16.17 they give us facts. Let me be clear today. 00:16:16.20\00:16:19.64 Fact number one: Jesus is a prophet. 00:16:19.67\00:16:23.61 [Aud. reaction] PB: I said, Jesus is a prophet. 00:16:23.65\00:16:29.42 Prophets in the Bible had several functions. 00:16:29.45\00:16:33.09 Number one, prophets were spokesmen for God. 00:16:33.12\00:16:36.42 It was Jesus who said in John 5:30, 00:16:36.46\00:16:38.69 "I can of mine own self do nothing . . . 00:16:38.73\00:16:40.80 because I seek not mine own will, 00:16:40.83\00:16:42.60 but the will of my father which has sent me." 00:16:42.63\00:16:44.40 Jesus then said in John chapter 10, verse 30, 00:16:44.43\00:16:46.63 "I and my Father are one." So then, if Jesus 00:16:46.67\00:16:49.90 does the will of God, the Father; if He and 00:16:49.94\00:16:52.61 the Father are one, then He must speak for God. 00:16:52.64\00:16:55.11 Number two, Jesus is a prophet because prophets 00:16:55.14\00:16:57.21 foretold future events through divine revelation. 00:16:57.25\00:16:59.75 In speaking on God's behalf, sometimes the message 00:16:59.78\00:17:02.45 would include predicting the future. Jesus predicted 00:17:02.48\00:17:06.02 the future when He told His disciples that He has to 00:17:06.05\00:17:08.56 go to New Jerusalem, He has to suffer many things, 00:17:08.59\00:17:11.16 He would be killed but on the third day He'd rise again. 00:17:11.19\00:17:14.30 This prophecy is fulfilled in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. 00:17:14.30\00:17:17.97 Jesus also foretold that after His ascension, 00:17:18.00\00:17:21.20 the disciples would receive power. Power, 00:17:21.24\00:17:25.31 after the Holy Ghost had come upon them. Acts 2 00:17:25.34\00:17:28.31 records the fulfillment of this prophecy. 00:17:28.34\00:17:30.45 The apostles received the Holy Ghost. 00:17:30.48\00:17:32.71 The apostles received power, and the apostles 00:17:32.75\00:17:35.45 turned this world upside down. Three thousand 00:17:35.48\00:17:38.09 were baptized in one day; 4,000 were baptized 00:17:38.12\00:17:41.12 in another day. People were added to the church daily. 00:17:41.16\00:17:45.36 A third function of a prophet was that the prophet 00:17:45.39\00:17:48.83 was able to heal and display miracles. 00:17:48.86\00:17:52.93 Moses displayed miracles, parting the red sea. 00:17:52.97\00:17:57.51 Elijah performed a miracle when he called 00:17:57.54\00:18:00.18 down fire on Mount Carmel. Elisha performed 00:18:00.21\00:18:03.91 a miracle when he made the ax head float in the water. 00:18:03.95\00:18:07.05 And in all the gospel accounts, Jesus performed 00:18:07.08\00:18:11.09 many miracles and man healings. Jesus fulfilled 00:18:11.12\00:18:13.86 the requirements of a prophet in title, word and deed. 00:18:13.89\00:18:16.42 He spoke for God, His prophecy came to pass, 00:18:16.46\00:18:20.23 He performed miracles, because Jesus was a prophet. 00:18:20.26\00:18:24.87 But not only was Jesus a prophet, fact number two: 00:18:24.90\00:18:27.44 Jesus is the Christ. Don't you let anybody tell 00:18:27.47\00:18:31.74 you that Jesus was not the Christ. The Old Testament 00:18:31.77\00:18:35.21 Messianic prophecies were found to be uniquely 00:18:35.24\00:18:37.25 fulfilled in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:18:37.28\00:18:39.71 Now, in the Bible there are hundreds of prophecies. 00:18:39.75\00:18:43.82 But let me indulge you with just a few today. 00:18:43.85\00:18:46.15 According to Micah 5:2, the Messiah was to be born 00:18:46.19\00:18:51.49 of a virgin, to be born of a virgin in Bethlehem. 00:18:51.53\00:18:56.50 We know the fulfillment. Mary conceives, 00:18:56.53\00:19:00.14 impregnated by the Holy Ghost. Bore a son 00:19:00.17\00:19:04.21 and called His name Jesus. He was born in Bethlehem, 00:19:04.24\00:19:08.24 wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 00:19:08.28\00:19:12.51 Prophecy number two: According to Genesis 49:10, 00:19:12.55\00:19:16.42 the Messiah would come from the tribe of Judah. 00:19:16.45\00:19:19.49 Through Judah, through the Davidic line, Jesus came. 00:19:19.52\00:19:23.32 Number three: According to Zechariah 9:9, the Messiah 00:19:23.36\00:19:27.36 would present Himself riding on a donkey. Jesus rode 00:19:27.40\00:19:31.87 in on a donkey at His triumphal entry into Jerusalem. 00:19:31.90\00:19:35.60 You do remember this week, don't you everybody, 00:19:35.64\00:19:38.24 because at the beginning of the week they shouted Hosanna!, 00:19:38.27\00:19:41.71 but at the end of the week they shouted Crucify him!, 00:19:41.74\00:19:44.71 which means you can't put your trust in people One 00:19:44.75\00:19:47.78 day they'll say this, the next day they'll say that. 00:19:47.82\00:19:50.92 You'd better put your trust in Jesus Christ. 00:19:50.95\00:19:53.52 [Aud. reaction] PB: According to Psalm 22, 00:19:53.56\00:19:56.16 the Messiah would be tortured to death. Jesus 00:19:56.19\00:20:00.30 was battered, bruised, beaten, and then He died 00:20:00.33\00:20:05.27 on Calvary. According to Isaiah 52 and 53, 00:20:05.30\00:20:09.47 the Messiah's life would match a particular 00:20:09.50\00:20:11.21 description including suffering, silence, 00:20:11.24\00:20:12.97 and his arrest, death, trial, burial in a rich 00:20:13.01\00:20:15.28 man's tomb, and resurrection. Jesus suffered, 00:20:15.31\00:20:18.45 but Jesus never said a mumbling word. 00:20:18.48\00:20:22.15 Jesus died on Calvary. Jesus was buried in 00:20:22.18\00:20:27.06 a rich mam's tomb, named Joseph. Jesus died 00:20:27.09\00:20:31.13 on Friday, lay resting in the grave on the Sabbath. 00:20:31.16\00:20:35.20 But the Bible says on the third appointed day 00:20:35.23\00:20:38.77 Jesus got up with all power in His hands. 00:20:38.80\00:20:41.97 But then, after I read all of that, 00:20:42.00\00:20:44.94 on top of all of that, more than all these evidences, 00:20:44.97\00:20:48.68 I know Jesus was the Christ, because Jesus 00:20:48.71\00:20:52.28 Himself claimed to be the Messiah. When the 00:20:52.31\00:20:56.15 woman came to Him and said, I know that the 00:20:56.18\00:20:58.85 Messiah is coming, He replied, "I who speak 00:20:58.89\00:21:03.56 to you am He. And if Jesus had never made 00:21:03.59\00:21:07.96 that claim to be the Messiah, why would we 00:21:08.00\00:21:10.70 even bother to prove that He was? His own claim 00:21:10.73\00:21:14.44 lays the groundwork for the rest of the evidence. 00:21:14.47\00:21:17.21 The only satisfactory explanation is that the 00:21:17.24\00:21:19.91 resurrection actually occurred, just as the Bible says. 00:21:19.94\00:21:23.11 And because it does, there's solid benefit and reason 00:21:23.14\00:21:27.02 for accepting the Messiahship of Jesus. 00:21:27.05\00:21:29.98 Jesus was a prophet. That's a fact. Jesus was the Christ. 00:21:30.02\00:21:36.66 That's a fact. Jesus was the Messiah. That's a fact. 00:21:36.69\00:21:43.30 Jesus was God. That's a fact. In the beginning was the Word, 00:21:43.33\00:21:50.27 and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 00:21:50.31\00:21:54.88 And the Word became flesh, dwelt among us, and we 00:21:54.91\00:21:59.68 beheld his glory, full as the glory of the only 00:21:59.71\00:22:02.15 begotten of the Father. A preacher tells a story 00:22:02.18\00:22:05.55 that in his early days in ministry he was a teacher 00:22:05.59\00:22:08.82 at a seminary. And in one of his classes, he wanted 00:22:08.86\00:22:12.99 a new way of teaching his students the doctrine of Christ. 00:22:13.03\00:22:16.43 So he told his students, "Young men, take out a 00:22:16.46\00:22:21.10 sheet of paper. And divide that paper into three columns." 00:22:21.14\00:22:24.77 In the first column, the students were to write every 00:22:24.81\00:22:28.88 scriptural passage where Christ was spoken of as the God-man. 00:22:28.91\00:22:33.55 In the second column, the students were to write all the 00:22:33.58\00:22:37.45 passages where Christ was spoken of as God alone. 00:22:37.49\00:22:41.52 But in the third column, the students were to write 00:22:41.56\00:22:45.16 all the passages where Christ was spoken of as man alone. 00:22:45.19\00:22:51.10 Column one, the God-man. Column two, God alone. 00:22:51.13\00:22:58.61 Column three, Man alone. Again, column one, the God-man. 00:22:58.64\00:23:07.35 Column two, God alone. Column three, Man alone. 00:23:07.38\00:23:16.16 At the end of the class period, the teacher picked 00:23:16.19\00:23:20.76 up all of his students' papers and he tallied 00:23:20.80\00:23:24.43 them all together. The summary paper was badly balanced. 00:23:24.47\00:23:31.11 The first column was filled. The second column was filled. 00:23:31.14\00:23:37.18 But on the third column, nobody ever found a passage 00:23:37.21\00:23:42.92 speaking of Christ as man alone. Why? Jesus, 00:23:42.95\00:23:49.46 the Son of God became a man so that men might become 00:23:49.49\00:23:56.03 the sons of God. He came from the bosom of the Father 00:23:56.06\00:24:01.47 to the bosom of a woman. He put on humanity so that 00:24:01.50\00:24:06.27 we might put on divinity. He came from heaven where 00:24:06.31\00:24:09.44 the rivers never freeze, winds never blow, 00:24:09.48\00:24:11.71 flowers never fade, and nobody's ever sick. 00:24:11.75\00:24:14.38 In infancy he startled a king. In boyhood he 00:24:14.42\00:24:18.22 puzzled wise men. In manhood he ruled the course of nature. 00:24:18.25\00:24:22.09 He's the God-man. Two natures harmonized but never 00:24:22.12\00:24:25.83 completely blended. In His divinity He's God's way to man, 00:24:25.86\00:24:29.50 and in His humanity He's man's way back on up to God. 00:24:29.53\00:24:32.03 He came to bless and not to curse. That's a fact. 00:24:32.07\00:24:36.60 He came to lift up and not to cast down. That's a fact. 00:24:36.64\00:24:41.48 He came to help and not to hurt. That's a fact. 00:24:41.51\00:24:45.95 He came to give life and not death. That's a fact. 00:24:45.98\00:24:50.15 He came to set the captives free. That's a fact. 00:24:50.19\00:24:54.49 He came to reveal His Father's love. That's a fact. 00:24:54.52\00:24:58.59 He came to give rest to the weary. That's a fact. 00:24:58.63\00:25:02.40 He came to be a blessing to the whole world. 00:25:02.43\00:25:04.93 That's a fact. He came to seek and to save that which was lost. 00:25:04.97\00:25:10.04 [Aud. reaction] PB: That's a fact. To give sight to the 00:25:10.07\00:25:16.88 blind. That's a fact. He was a prophet. He was Christ. 00:25:16.91\00:25:23.18 He was the Messiah. That's a fact. 00:25:23.22\00:25:28.26 That's not an alternative fact. And one day soon, 00:25:28.29\00:25:33.73 He's coming back. [Aud. reaction] 00:25:33.76\00:25:37.60 PB: Let me tell you as I get ready to take my seat, 00:25:37.63\00:25:41.40 no matter what happens in this life. No matter if I 00:25:41.44\00:25:45.91 don't make it; no matter if you don't make it. 00:25:45.94\00:25:48.04 I believe in Him, and that's a fact. I'm not dealing 00:25:48.08\00:25:56.55 with alternative facts. I stake my claim in Jesus, and that's a 00:25:56.58\00:26:05.43 fact. Church, I'll be 45 in a month or so. I've come too 00:26:05.46\00:26:10.17 far to turn back now. I've believed too long to 00:26:10.20\00:26:16.60 stop believing now. Some trust in horses, 00:26:16.64\00:26:20.71 some trust in chariots, but I trust in the name of our God. 00:26:20.74\00:26:26.15 'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, just to take Him at His word. 00:26:26.18\00:26:33.56 Stop playing church. Stop playing yourself. 00:26:33.59\00:26:39.03 Either you're with Him, or you're not. 00:26:39.06\00:26:41.46 Either you're in the river or on the bank. 00:26:41.50\00:26:44.67 It's either truth or error. Choose you this 00:26:44.70\00:26:48.24 day whom you're going to serve. But as for me 00:26:48.27\00:26:50.84 and my house, we're going to serve the Lord. 00:26:50.87\00:26:53.54 The devil is a liar. The devil is the father of lies. 00:26:53.58\00:26:57.78 The devil is creator of alternative facts. 00:26:57.81\00:27:02.28 [Aud. reaction] PB: But you've got to trust Jesus. 00:27:02.32\00:27:06.79 You can't trace Him, you can't see Him, 00:27:06.82\00:27:13.63 but you've got to trust Him. I trust Him. 00:27:13.66\00:27:20.77 And that's a fact. He's prophet, He's priest, 00:27:20.80\00:27:32.15 and He's King. He's prophet, He's Christ, 00:27:32.18\00:27:41.39 He's Messiah. And I trust Him. 00:27:41.42\00:27:47.93 You may not know the evangelions of Greek; 00:27:47.96\00:27:53.84 you may not know the buenos nochas of Spanish; 00:27:53.87\00:27:59.47 but friends of mine, get to know Jesus. 00:27:59.51\00:28:03.95 And learn to trust Him. And that's a fact. 00:28:03.98\00:28:11.89 Is He really the Prophet? Is He really the Christ? 00:28:11.92\00:28:16.69 Yes. Don't let people tell you 00:28:16.73\00:28:17.83 >: Thank you for joining us for another exciting 00:28:17.86\00:28:19.03 Breath of Life television broadcast. 00:28:19.06\00:28:20.96 Tune in next week at the same time, 00:28:21.00\00:28:22.96 as Dr. Byrd will deliver another dynamic message 00:28:23.00\00:28:25.90 from the Lord, just for you. 00:28:25.93\00:28:30.41 Until next time, may God bless you. 00:28:30.44\00:28:45.45
