We talked about Counselor. 00:00:53.68\00:00:59.49 Today we continue with He's the mighty God and everlasting 00:00:59.52\00:01:07.73 Father. Father in heaven, Lord, now for the next few minutes we 00:01:07.76\00:01:13.27 ask that You would speak now through Your Word. I'm so 00:01:13.30\00:01:18.91 unworthy to stand here. When I think about God, the gift that 00:01:18.94\00:01:24.08 You gave us through Your Son, I say thank You, Jesus, 00:01:24.11\00:01:27.52 because it makes me able to stand here today. 00:01:27.55\00:01:31.55 Penetrate Your people's hearts, and when we leave, 00:01:31.59\00:01:34.92 we'll be able to say it was good to have been in this 00:01:34.96\00:01:38.13 place today. Forgive me of my sins. In Jesus' name, amen. 00:01:38.16\00:01:42.70 He's a mighty God and the everlasting Father. 00:01:42.73\00:01:50.41 In Isaiah's day, the people were not godly people. 00:01:50.44\00:01:55.48 In fact, the children of Israel had messed up so 00:01:55.51\00:02:00.05 badly that God was bringing the nation of Assyria 00:02:00.08\00:02:03.65 down upon them to punish them. So in Isaiah's day 00:02:03.69\00:02:09.02 it was extremely dark, dismal, dim, and depressive. 00:02:09.06\00:02:17.20 But it was on the edge of this darkness that 00:02:17.23\00:02:22.24 God revealed that He was going to do something about it: 00:02:22.27\00:02:26.94 that God was going to send a great Light, 00:02:26.98\00:02:30.85 that He was going to send a child of hope and promise, 00:02:30.88\00:02:35.45 that He was going to send Jesus Christ. 00:02:35.48\00:02:39.65 But just before Isaiah 9:6, God lets His people know 00:02:39.69\00:02:45.39 in Isaiah 9:4 that He's going to break down their enemies. 00:02:45.43\00:02:51.53 And He's not going to just do it with Wonderful, 00:02:51.57\00:02:55.17 not just with Counselor, but He's also going to do 00:02:55.20\00:03:00.24 it with the mighty God. When Isaiah prophesied that 00:03:00.28\00:03:05.58 this child would come, Isaiah said something very distinct. 00:03:05.61\00:03:10.85 Isaiah, this child would be God. This was then in harmony 00:03:10.89\00:03:17.19 with Genesis 1:1. "In the beginning God created the 00:03:17.23\00:03:22.93 heavens and the earth. And the earth was without form, and 00:03:22.96\00:03:27.27 void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the 00:03:27.30\00:03:29.54 Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters." 00:03:29.57\00:03:32.91 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 00:03:32.94\00:03:37.41 We skip down to verse number 26, and the Bible says 00:03:37.45\00:03:40.58 "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our 00:03:40.62\00:03:47.46 likeness," which means God was not one. But there was God the 00:03:47.49\00:03:53.56 Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, because the text 00:03:53.60\00:03:58.67 says "And God said, 'Let us make man,'" not let Me make man. 00:03:58.70\00:04:03.51 We then go to the New Testament, and the Word of God says 00:04:03.54\00:04:07.94 in John 1:1, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word 00:04:07.98\00:04:12.25 was with God, and the Word was God." The Bible continues, 00:04:12.28\00:04:17.92 "The same was in the beginning with God [because] all 00:04:17.95\00:04:20.76 things were made by him; and without him was not any 00:04:20.79\00:04:23.36 thing made that was made." But then we go to verse 14 of John 00:04:23.39\00:04:28.10 1, and it says that the Word became flesh, dwelt among us, 00:04:28.13\00:04:34.34 which then makes Matthew 1:21 make sense: "And she shall bring 00:04:34.37\00:04:39.94 forth a son. Thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shalt save 00:04:39.97\00:04:45.05 his people from their sins." Which then means, friends of 00:04:45.08\00:04:48.85 mine, Jesus is God. In John 10:30, Jesus said, 00:04:48.88\00:04:54.52 "I and my Father are one." In John 14:9, 00:04:54.56\00:04:58.23 Jesus said, "He who has seen me has seen the Father." 00:04:58.26\00:05:02.26 Someone once said to a preacher, "Preacher, I want to see God. 00:05:02.30\00:05:06.94 I want to see the Father. Show me the Father." The preacher 00:05:06.97\00:05:12.91 then responded and said, "If you want to see the Father, 00:05:12.94\00:05:15.41 look at the Son." Because if you look at Jesus, 00:05:15.44\00:05:18.58 you'll see the Father. So if you want to know what God is like, 00:05:18.61\00:05:21.95 look at Jesus. If you want to know God, know Jesus. 00:05:21.98\00:05:25.79 If you want the grace of God, seek Jesus. If you want 00:05:25.82\00:05:29.29 the love of God, love Jesus. If you want the salvation of God, 00:05:29.32\00:05:32.99 trust Jesus. If you want the blessings of God, tell Jesus. 00:05:33.03\00:05:36.97 And if you want to live eternally with God, live Jesus. 00:05:37.00\00:05:41.07 Jesus is God. But Isaiah doesn't just say that Jesus is God. 00:05:41.10\00:05:49.88 But Isaiah also says that Jesus is the mighty God. 00:05:49.91\00:05:54.52 Now, the Hebrew word for God is El. Everybody say El. 00:05:54.55\00:05:59.32 Aud.: El. PB: That's E-L. And in the Bible, 00:05:59.35\00:06:01.56 the word El is always prefixed before the adjective 00:06:01.59\00:06:04.73 that describes God. El Shaddai, the all sufficient God; 00:06:04.76\00:06:11.37 El Hannora, the awesome God; El Elyon, the most high God; 00:06:11.40\00:06:18.77 El Olam, the everlasting God. And then we come to Isaiah 9:6 00:06:18.81\00:06:24.05 and we have El Gabor, which means the mighty God. 00:06:24.08\00:06:28.48 Mighty means possessing great strength, possessing great 00:06:28.52\00:06:32.69 and impressive power. When this child that Isaiah is 00:06:32.72\00:06:36.69 prophesying about comes, He then would come with power. 00:06:36.73\00:06:42.23 So Jesus is not just God, but Jesus is the mighty God full of 00:06:42.26\00:06:50.04 power. When we look throughout history, we see the mighty, 00:06:50.07\00:06:54.08 powerful acts of a mighty God in the person of Jesus Christ. 00:06:54.11\00:06:57.68 Look at His birth. You had to know that He was a mighty God, 00:06:57.71\00:07:01.62 because He's the only one in earth's history that had one 00:07:01.65\00:07:04.55 human parent and one divine parent. So then He inherited 00:07:04.59\00:07:09.36 both the nature of man and the nature of God: He's a mighty 00:07:09.39\00:07:14.10 God. But then look at His teen years. He's the only one that 00:07:14.10\00:07:17.57 could speak with authority among the preachers, teachers and 00:07:17.60\00:07:20.77 theologians of his day, as a teen. He's a mighty God. But then look at His miracles. 00:07:20.80\00:07:25.71 I think about the one recorded in the Old Testament. 00:07:25.74\00:07:28.04 In the Old Testament there are three Hebrew boys, 00:07:28.08\00:07:30.91 they're on death row. They're about to experience capital 00:07:30.95\00:07:37.12 punishment. They are about to be executed. They're about to be thrown in a fiery furnace. 00:07:37.15\00:07:40.69 The king comes out to watch, to make sure that the execution 00:07:40.72\00:07:45.43 has been completed. But when the king gets there, 00:07:45.46\00:07:48.00 he looks into the fiery furnace. He sees not three men, 00:07:48.03\00:07:53.97 but the Bible says he sees four men. And he says, 00:07:54.00\00:07:58.04 "One looks like the Son of God." He's a mighty God. 00:07:58.07\00:08:04.21 But then I go to a New Testament story, and I go to Mark chapter 00:08:04.25\00:08:08.65 5, which tells the story of a desperate father by the name of 00:08:08.68\00:08:12.79 Jairus, who forsakes his pride, forsakes his high social 00:08:12.82\00:08:16.02 standing, and pleads with Jesus to heal his near-death daughter. 00:08:16.06\00:08:20.20 Jesus agrees. I'll heal your daughter, but on the way to 00:08:20.23\00:08:25.20 Jairus' house, everything goes wrong. First, they're delayed. A 00:08:25.23\00:08:30.67 woman with an issue of blood stops Jesus because she wants to 00:08:30.71\00:08:34.48 be healed herself. Then Jairus is approached by one of his servants who tells him, 00:08:34.51\00:08:38.25 "Look, Jairus, it's too late. It's over. You took too long. 00:08:38.28\00:08:42.48 And because it took too long for Jesus to get here, the girl 00:08:42.52\00:08:47.29 died." But Jesus said, "Man, don't you know who I am? I am 00:08:47.32\00:08:53.83 the resurrection and the life." Don't worry about when I got here. Don't worry about 00:08:53.86\00:08:59.10 how I got here. Just believe. Your emergency is not God's 00:08:59.13\00:09:06.61 emergency. Just because you're in a hurry doesn't mean God is. 00:09:06.64\00:09:11.11 What you have to understand, friends of mine, is that if God 00:09:11.15\00:09:14.22 is time, He holds the time. Life is in His hands and death is 00:09:14.25\00:09:18.25 in His hands, so what does He have to rush for if He's already 00:09:18.29\00:09:22.82 there? [Aud. reaction] PB: When they get to the house it's 00:09:22.86\00:09:27.60 a crazy scene. People are crying and mourning the little girl's death. But Jesus says, 00:09:27.66\00:09:31.40 "The little girl is not dead, she's just asleep." 00:09:31.43\00:09:36.50 The people laughed at Jesus, they mocked Jesus. 00:09:36.54\00:09:41.34 But Jesus lifts the little girl up by the hand, speaks a few 00:09:41.38\00:09:48.22 words, and the little girl is alive again. Lungs that had no 00:09:48.25\00:09:54.06 air fill up again. A heart that was still starts to beat again. 00:09:54.09\00:09:59.93 Flesh that turned gray became rosy again. Eyes that had sunk 00:09:59.96\00:10:04.63 in and rolled back in her head because bright again. 00:10:04.67\00:10:07.64 He's the mighty God. And so the lesson for us today is simply 00:10:07.67\00:10:12.61 this: Like Jairus, our lives may be full of limitations and road 00:10:12.64\00:10:18.45 blocks. Medically speaking, it doesn't seem like it's going to 00:10:18.48\00:10:22.02 get any better. Financially speaking, it doesn't seem like 00:10:22.05\00:10:24.99 you can do this. The thing you're dreaming of can't happen with your resources. 00:10:25.02\00:10:28.52 We live in limitations. We're limited by our own strength. 00:10:28.56\00:10:33.96 We're limited by our education. We're limited by our finances. 00:10:34.00\00:10:39.10 We're limited by our resources. But Jesus the mighty God 00:10:39.13\00:10:45.74 knows nothing about limitations. He crosses every barrier. 00:10:45.77\00:10:51.18 He breaks through every wall. It doesn't matter to Jesus 00:10:51.21\00:10:55.42 that people laugh. It doesn't matter that this has never 00:10:55.45\00:10:58.82 been done before. It doesn't matter that a father's faith 00:10:58.85\00:11:02.42 is wavering. It doesn't matter that people say it can't happen. 00:11:02.46\00:11:06.36 He's the mighty God. He transcends time, surpasses 00:11:06.39\00:11:12.10 space, outdoes obstacles, breaks barriers. He's a mighty God. 00:11:12.13\00:11:18.77 He heals the sick, He raises the dead, He forgives sinners, 00:11:18.81\00:11:24.68 He delivers captives, He blesses the young, He respects the old, 00:11:24.71\00:11:30.55 He rewards the diligent, He's Master of the mighty, 00:11:30.59\00:11:34.52 Captain of the conquerors, Head of the heroes, 00:11:34.56\00:11:37.76 Overseer of the overcomers, Leader of legislators, 00:11:37.79\00:11:41.96 Governor of governors, King of kings, Lord of lords. 00:11:42.00\00:11:46.67 He's a mighty God. He's incomprehensible, He's 00:11:46.70\00:11:52.24 invincible, He's irresistible. You can't get Him out of your 00:11:52.27\00:11:55.48 mind. You can't get Him off your hands. You can't outlive Him 00:11:55.51\00:12:00.12 and you can't live without Him. There's nobody before Him 00:12:00.15\00:12:04.05 and there'll be nobody after Him. He's CEO of the universe. 00:12:04.09\00:12:08.96 You didn't vote Him in, and you can't vote Him out. 00:12:08.99\00:12:11.76 You can't impeach him and He's not going to resign. 00:12:11.79\00:12:15.33 [Aud. reaction] PB: He's the mighty God. And what I 00:12:15.36\00:12:19.03 love about Jesus the mighty God is that He devised 00:12:19.07\00:12:21.94 everything that's supposed to happen. What do you mean, 00:12:21.97\00:12:25.31 Pastor Byrd? Well, they conspired against Jesus. 00:12:25.34\00:12:28.21 They made up all this stuff about Jesus. You know how 00:12:28.24\00:12:32.01 people make up stuff about you. But the good news 00:12:32.05\00:12:34.42 is a lie can't live. I wish I had a witness in this place. 00:12:34.45\00:12:37.29 [Aud. reaction] PB: They made all this stuff up about 00:12:37.32\00:12:39.15 Him to get Him out of the way and then they killed Him. 00:12:39.19\00:12:40.86 They thought they were finished with Him. They thought 00:12:40.89\00:12:44.03 He was never coming back. They thought it was the 00:12:44.06\00:12:47.86 end of the story. We've got the troublemaker out of the way. 00:12:47.93\00:12:52.67 But God stepped in, usurped their schemes, turned 00:12:52.70\00:12:58.27 everything upside down, and superseded their plans 00:12:58.31\00:13:01.88 with a plan of His own. What was His plan? His plan 00:13:01.91\00:13:05.55 was Jesus had to die on Friday. He lay resting in the 00:13:05.58\00:13:08.78 grave on the Sabbath, which means Jesus was obedient 00:13:08.82\00:13:11.89 to His commandment even in death. But early Sunday morning, 00:13:11.92\00:13:16.46 on the third appointed day, He got up with all power in His 00:13:16.49\00:13:21.36 hands. Let me tell you something. It's called 00:13:21.40\00:13:24.40 Resurrection power because that's what the mighty God is 00:13:24.43\00:13:27.07 all about. He takes the most difficult things in life, 00:13:27.10\00:13:30.54 the situations we say that are unchangeable, 00:13:30.57\00:13:33.34 and does something amazing with them. 00:13:33.38\00:13:35.88 Why is the Resurrection so important in the life 00:13:35.91\00:13:39.05 of a Christian? Why is the Resurrection so important 00:13:39.08\00:13:42.62 in the life of an Adventist? It's not just because 00:13:42.65\00:13:45.99 He got up. It's not just because He rose. 00:13:46.02\00:13:49.99 It's not just because Jesus now lives, but 00:13:50.03\00:13:54.00 it's also because as I've learned in my life, 00:13:54.03\00:13:56.03 in life's moments, when life has encased us, 00:13:56.06\00:14:00.20 when life has closed us inn, when life has boxed us in, 00:14:00.24\00:14:05.47 when life's stones have been rolled to close us 00:14:05.51\00:14:08.24 up in our own human experiences, and when all human 00:14:08.28\00:14:11.35 indicators say there's no way out, the Resurrection 00:14:11.38\00:14:15.42 reminds us that there's nothing too hard for the mighty God. 00:14:15.45\00:14:20.12 That God reverses the irreversible. 00:14:20.16\00:14:23.12 That God fixes the unfixable. That God does the undoable. 00:14:23.16\00:14:28.10 That He beats the unbeatable. He saves the unsaveable. 00:14:28.13\00:14:31.70 He's a mighty God. He's a miracle-working God. 00:14:31.73\00:14:35.77 He's a Satan-defeating God. He's a circumstance-changing 00:14:35.80\00:14:40.18 God He's a wonder-working God. He's an overcoming God, 00:14:40.21\00:14:45.25 because He's a mighty God. [Aud. reaction] 00:14:45.28\00:14:48.32 PB: That wherever you are today, to say that God 00:14:48.35\00:14:53.82 can't get you out of it is for you to say you don't 00:14:53.86\00:14:57.89 believe in the power of His resurrection. 00:14:57.93\00:15:01.30 What a mighty God we serve. Angels bow before Him, 00:15:01.33\00:15:06.67 heaven and earth adore Him. What a mighty God we serve. 00:15:06.70\00:15:10.91 That's the power of God, that's the miracle of His 00:15:10.94\00:15:14.24 resurrection. But also, it's the gospel of redemption. 00:15:14.28\00:15:17.85 Let me tell you something. There is no greater miracle 00:15:17.88\00:15:22.68 that God has worked than the redemption of your soul. 00:15:22.72\00:15:27.32 Let me say that one more time. There is no greater 00:15:27.36\00:15:31.19 miracle that God has worked than the redemption of your soul. 00:15:31.23\00:15:36.06 Somebody in this place today--I know you look good, 00:15:36.10\00:15:38.53 but you should be out there strung out somewhere- 00:15:38.57\00:15:41.34 -there's somebody in this place, you should have lost 00:15:41.37\00:15:43.61 your mind by now. But there is no greater miracle that 00:15:43.64\00:15:48.94 God has worked than the redemption of your soul. 00:15:48.98\00:15:52.58 So if you're looking for a modern-day miracle, 00:15:52.61\00:15:55.12 baby look in the mirror. And look at yourself and say, 00:15:55.15\00:15:59.25 what a wonderful change in my life has been wrought, 00:15:59.29\00:16:03.12 since Jesus came into my heart. Without Christ, 00:16:03.16\00:16:07.03 all of us--all of us--without Christ, all of us 00:16:07.10\00:16:13.87 have been sentenced to hell like an inmate. 00:16:13.90\00:16:17.61 Locked behind bars, can't be acquitted. 00:16:17.64\00:16:21.51 When we are living without Christ, friends of mine, 00:16:21.54\00:16:25.45 our lives have already been condemned to live out 00:16:25.48\00:16:28.48 in the heat and blaze of hell's fire. But with Christ, 00:16:28.52\00:16:33.49 He comes in, He fans the flames, reaches in and rescues 00:16:33.52\00:16:41.36 the perishing, and then He brings us close to Himself. 00:16:41.40\00:16:46.03 Then He says you belong to Me, and anybody that 00:16:46.07\00:16:50.17 belongs to Me can't be taken out of My hand. 00:16:50.21\00:16:53.31 That's some good news today. [Aud. reaction] 00:16:53.34\00:16:56.31 PB: That I don't care what you've done, 00:16:56.34\00:16:59.21 I don't care how far you've been backed up, 00:16:59.25\00:17:01.65 I don't care how bad you've messed up, 00:17:01.68\00:17:04.49 if you're in the hand of God, no devil in hell can take you out. 00:17:04.52\00:17:11.69 Let me tell you something. What I love about our faith 00:17:11.73\00:17:14.30 is simply this: our faith is not based on coming do, 00:17:14.30\00:17:20.20 but our faith is based on already done. 00:17:20.24\00:17:25.04 Somebody missed this. Our faith is not based 00:17:25.07\00:17:28.08 on coming do, our faith is based on it's already done. 00:17:28.11\00:17:32.91 Somebody got it. I hear you. Somebody got it. 00:17:32.95\00:17:34.88 Satan is done. Satan is already defeated. 00:17:34.92\00:17:40.16 Satan is already finished. Nobody can undo 00:17:40.19\00:17:44.36 what Jesus already did at Calvary. 00:17:44.39\00:17:46.76 You can't undo what God has already done. 00:17:46.80\00:17:49.40 God had a plan to redeem you and me before 00:17:49.43\00:17:52.07 the foundation of the world. It's done. 00:17:52.10\00:17:55.24 That's why I love to praise God. It's done. 00:17:55.27\00:17:58.87 That's why I love to worship God. It's done. 00:17:58.91\00:18:02.51 That's why I love to live for God. It's done. 00:18:02.54\00:18:06.18 That's why I love to stomp my feet. It's done. 00:18:06.21\00:18:09.45 That's why I love to lift God. It's already done. 00:18:09.48\00:18:13.02 Don't wait till the battle is over. Shout now. 00:18:13.05\00:18:16.76 In the end you're going to win, because He who 00:18:16.79\00:18:19.06 has begun a good work in you will continue and 00:18:19.09\00:18:23.67 complete it until the day of redemption. 00:18:23.70\00:18:25.93 It's done, because He's a mighty God. And because Jesus is God. 00:18:25.97\00:18:32.47 But because Jesus God has revealed Himself to us as a 00:18:32.51\00:18:36.68 mighty God, God's power--listen to me good--God's power is not 00:18:36.71\00:18:43.35 just in Jesus. But if Jesus is in us, His power dwells in us. 00:18:43.39\00:18:56.26 [Aud. reaction] PB: Can I be real today? 00:18:56.30\00:18:59.07 Some of us don't know who we are. We're sitting 00:18:59.10\00:19:03.87 on a ton of dynamite. I refuse to walk around like 00:19:03.91\00:19:11.01 a pitiful, scared, wounded, Seventh-day Adventist Christian. 00:19:11.05\00:19:17.15 I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. 00:19:17.19\00:19:22.79 If God be for us, who can be against us? No weapon 00:19:22.82\00:19:28.03 formed against us is going to prosper. Jesus died for me. 00:19:28.06\00:19:32.90 Jesus rose for me. Jesus lives for me, and I've got power. 00:19:32.93\00:19:39.01 Anything we ask in the name of Jesus, it shall be done. 00:19:39.04\00:19:43.45 Ask and it shall be given, seek and ye shall find, 00:19:43.48\00:19:46.92 knock and the door shall be opened. 00:19:46.95\00:19:48.98 This is the confidence we have in approaching God, 00:19:49.02\00:19:51.95 that whatever we ask, we know we have. 00:19:51.99\00:19:55.59 When Jesus left this earth, He gave us the Holy Ghost, 00:19:55.62\00:20:01.86 and the power of the Holy Ghost has been given to us. 00:20:01.90\00:20:06.10 [Aud. reaction] PB: So I can tread on serpents. 00:20:06.13\00:20:10.21 I can tread and stomp on scorpions. I can denounce 00:20:10.24\00:20:15.14 and depress demons, because we serve a mighty God. 00:20:15.18\00:20:21.08 Oh, you don't hear me. I said, we serve a mighty God. 00:20:21.12\00:20:25.85 Somebody in here, you're weak and weary. 00:20:25.89\00:20:29.32 But we serve a mighty God. Somebody in here, you're faint, 00:20:29.36\00:20:34.46 but we serve a mighty God. I need a mighty God. 00:20:34.46\00:20:39.97 You need a mighty God. We need a mighty God. 00:20:40.00\00:20:44.27 I'm trying to move to everlasting Father, 00:20:44.31\00:20:46.17 but my soul is all happy 'cause we serve a mighty God. 00:20:46.21\00:20:48.81 If you're having trouble with your life, He's a mighty God. 00:20:48.84\00:20:52.45 If you're having trouble with your job, He's a mighty God. 00:20:52.48\00:20:55.78 If you're having trouble in your marriage, He's a mighty God. 00:20:55.82\00:20:59.05 If you're having trouble with your children, He's a mighty 00:20:59.09\00:21:01.99 God. If you're having trouble with your finances, He's a 00:21:02.02\00:21:05.19 mighty God. If you're having trouble with your health, He's a 00:21:05.23\00:21:07.96 mighty God. You may be weak, but He's a mighty God. 00:21:07.96\00:21:12.97 You may be in your own fiery furnace, but He's a mighty God. 00:21:13.00\00:21:18.04 You might be in a lions' den today, but He's a mighty God. 00:21:18.07\00:21:23.01 Somebody, you may be going through it right now, 00:21:23.04\00:21:25.85 but He's a mighty God. Somebody, your back is up against the 00:21:25.88\00:21:31.12 wall, but He's a mighty God. So I just stopped by to tell you, 00:21:31.15\00:21:35.49 number one that we serve a mighty God. 00:21:35.52\00:21:39.06 But not only is He a mighty God, He's an everlasting Father. 00:21:39.09\00:21:45.07 [Aud. reaction] PB: Now, we're smart people. 00:21:45.10\00:21:48.24 So somebody wants to know how can Jesus be the Son 00:21:48.27\00:21:55.04 and the Father at the same time? There's God the Father, 00:21:55.08\00:22:01.98 God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. And though there 00:22:02.02\00:22:07.62 is one God, three co-eternal Persons working to bring 00:22:07.66\00:22:12.69 about our salvation, the Son is not the Father, 00:22:12.73\00:22:17.80 and the Father is not the Son. So how can the Son 00:22:17.83\00:22:22.97 be the everlasting Father? If you study the text, 00:22:23.00\00:22:31.08 you will notice that the text has no bearing upon the 00:22:31.11\00:22:35.38 position and titles of the Godhead with regard to one 00:22:35.42\00:22:39.29 another. The text does not indicate the relationship of God 00:22:39.32\00:22:44.36 to Himself, but it indicates the relationship of Jesus Christ to 00:22:44.39\00:22:48.26 us. Jesus to us is the everlasting Father, 00:22:48.30\00:22:52.17 which means Jesus is eternal, Jesus is endless, 00:22:52.20\00:22:57.07 Jesus is enduring, Jesus is undying, Jesus is perpetual, 00:22:57.11\00:23:03.51 Jesus is never-ending, Jesus is infinite, Jesus is boundless, 00:23:03.55\00:23:09.25 Jesus is timeless, Jesus is immortal, Jesus is everlasting. 00:23:09.28\00:23:14.46 Let me put it to you this way. Jesus was always here, 00:23:14.49\00:23:19.86 always has been here, always will be here, 00:23:19.89\00:23:25.30 because He always was and He always is. 00:23:25.33\00:23:27.90 Because HE is what He was, He was what He is, 00:23:27.94\00:23:30.04 and what He was and is He will always be. 00:23:30.07\00:23:32.17 [Aud. reaction] PB: Jesus couldn't be called everlasting 00:23:32.21\00:23:39.18 if it were possible that one day He would cease to exist. 00:23:39.21\00:23:43.62 So then Jesus is as eternally the Son as the Father 00:23:43.65\00:23:49.39 is eternally the Father. For according to Colossians 1:15, 16 00:23:49.42\00:23:54.40 and 17, Paull says that "Jesus is the image of the invisible 00:23:54.46\00:23:58.47 God, the firstborn of every creature. For by him were all 00:23:58.50\00:24:01.57 things created that are in heaven and the earth, 00:24:01.60\00:24:04.07 visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, dominions, 00:24:04.11\00:24:06.74 principalities, powers. All things were created by him, 00:24:06.78\00:24:09.94 for him, and he is before all things, and by him all things 00:24:09.98\00:24:15.68 consist." Jesus is everlasting, but now, let's link everlasting 00:24:15.72\00:24:26.43 and Father. Now, in our finite minds, the Father must be before 00:24:26.46\00:24:35.50 the Son. But we must understand that the terms used in Scripture 00:24:35.54\00:24:41.61 to represent God are not intended to literally be 00:24:41.64\00:24:45.68 understood or rendered in their exact earthly sense, because 00:24:45.71\00:24:49.55 human language fails to convey the very essence and fullness of 00:24:49.58\00:24:54.69 heavenly things. God says, your says are not My ways. Your 00:24:54.72\00:25:01.93 thoughts are not My thoughts. Jesus is as eternal as the 00:25:01.96\00:25:06.77 Father, or He would have never been called the everlasting 00:25:06.80\00:25:10.67 Father. But Pastor, how is Jesus Father? Because in order to be a 00:25:10.71\00:25:17.78 father, you've got to have children. But remember, any man 00:25:17.81\00:25:23.85 can make a baby; it takes a father to rear a child. [Aud. 00:25:23.89\00:25:27.42 reaction] PB: But let me give you one way Jesus is Father. 00:25:27.46\00:25:32.59 First, Jesus is Father who represents those who are in Him, 00:25:32.63\00:25:36.43 just like the head of a tribe represents the descendants 00:25:36.46\00:25:40.14 in that tribe. If you read First Corinthians 15, 00:25:40.17\00:25:42.84 the Apostle Paul speaks of two Adams: the first 00:25:42.87\00:25:47.21 Adam and the second Adam. Adam is a Hebrew word 00:25:47.24\00:25:51.68 that has two meanings. Number one, it has a general 00:25:51.71\00:25:55.48 meaning and number two, it has a specific meaning. 00:25:55.52\00:25:58.85 Generally speaking, Adam is a generic term meaning man 00:25:58.89\00:26:02.99 or mankind or humanity. In this sense, this Adam includes 00:26:03.02\00:26:07.03 everybody, male and female. White and black. Young and old. 00:26:07.10\00:26:14.20 Jew and Gentile. Rich and poor. North and south, east and west, 00:26:14.24\00:26:20.48 this is everybody. But the second meaning of the word Adam 00:26:20.51\00:26:23.91 is specific and individual. It means Adam, the man. Adam, 00:26:23.95\00:26:30.92 the male. It means Adam, the husband of Eve. Adam, 00:26:30.95\00:26:37.03 the father of Cain and Abel. Adam, the primary ancestor 00:26:37.06\00:26:42.03 of every race and nation. Adam, the progenitor of the human 00:26:42.06\00:26:46.53 family. Adam, the common father of us all. Adam, whom God made 00:26:46.57\00:26:51.31 and place in the Garden of Eden to develop and maintain it. 00:26:51.34\00:26:53.91 But the Bible says that the first Adam stood for us in the 00:26:53.94\00:27:00.85 Garden, then he fell and ruined it for all of us. The Bible says 00:27:00.88\00:27:07.96 wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, death by 00:27:07.99\00:27:12.03 sin, so death passed upon all men, for all have sinned. Which 00:27:12.06\00:27:18.23 means then, the first Adam was the representative man by whose 00:27:18.27\00:27:23.07 obedience we should have been blessed, but through whose 00:27:23.10\00:27:27.58 disobedience we've been made sinners. The first Adam was the 00:27:27.61\00:27:32.75 representative head of all of us, and when he fell we all fell. In the first Adam, 00:27:32.78\00:27:39.15 we all die. But praise God today, there's a second Adam, 00:27:39.19\00:27:48.60 and His name is Jesus. The everlasting Father. 00:27:48.63\00:27:56.17 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is 00:27:56.20\00:28:01.38 eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. We call the first Adam 00:28:01.41\00:28:06.08 "father" sorrowfully, because we were cast out of Eden because of 00:28:06.11\00:28:12.65 him. We till the ground -- 00:28:12.69\00:28:16.06 >: Thank you for joining us for another exciting 00:28:16.09\00:28:18.39 Breath of Life television broadcast. 00:28:18.43\00:28:20.40 Tune in next week at the same time, 00:28:20.43\00:28:22.73 as Dr. Byrd will deliver another dynamic message from the Lord, 00:28:22.76\00:28:26.10 just for you.
